Dr. Gordy at Riverbend Vet takes wonderful care of our pets. She gives honest advice and doesn't push expensive tests or treatments (I've had bad experiences at other clinics in Edmonton). After a recent surgery our dog came home with a very neat and clean incision and stitches, pre-measured oral syringes for pain meds, a report on the surgery (how it went, what exactly was done etc), antibiotics and instructions on how to care for her at home. She recovered extremely well. The staff are very friendly, organized and clearly love animals and their jobs. We drive half way across the city for their excellent care and skill.

Care was fantastic, but cost was extremely high. After paying an outrageous bill, I shopped around. Found out that the procedure done on my pet was in fact quite routine, but the cost was more than double what other clinics tended to charge. Note, the care at VCA Riverbend was indeed tremendous - no complaint there. So hey - if you have lots of money, this place is excellent. If you're being careful with your money, shop around a bit - I found that different clinics have very different fee structures.

Well today October 8th 2019 , marks are very sad day of our lives . We brought our pet and one of best friends to see the Doctor for his last visit. Dr.Bear has been looking after him for twenty years and a couple of months , he was the feisty Jack Russell his brother Stuart was the quiet one ,and their cousin Mr. Patches was the smart one among three . So I would just like to take this moment,let everyone one know the staff are fantastic and made our loss much easier to deal with today.I don’t feel there will be any distancing from the clinic and us as there will always be a strong connection. You have given us tremendous respect service and friendship which will always be valued. So in closing as my wife and I have done in the past , I think it’s time to celebrate their lives with another PIZZA party. Thanks Warren McLEOD

Outstanding! We deal with Dr. Bear whenever possible, but also Dr. Gordie. They are kind, compassionate, knowledgeable and professional. They have taken ample time with us on every visit to ensure a thorough examination and explain everything. Most importantly, to me at least, they never push unnecessary procedures on us. We switched from another south side clinic 7 years ago when we got our new dog because we were dissatisfied with the old clinic, and the difference has been like night and day. Highly recommended.

I'm not a person to write reviews however, I have never been so disappointed. I adopted two rescue dogs. They were brought to this vet under their K9 numbers and number the rescue agencies name. When they were officially adopted, I advised the staff here of this upon a follow up appointment. On that last visit here, Dr. Lam told me that because I have a child and a puppy (who she saw once, the second time he was under for surgery) that nipped, that I need to fix that because shes put dogs under for less than biting children. 1. You haven't touched him (p.s He never bite once... because we worked on it..) and she had seen him once. Also, she hates animals. Why are you vet? Fast forward to now. I switched vets and needed my dogs shot certificates. I call Riverbend. They cannot find any information except the one visit from when we adopted them. I was on the phone with them from 11am until 5:30pm. Turns out, they found their files under their previous names (why were they separated?...) and one of my dogs got all his shots. The other. Got her first round of booster shots and that is all... Who doesn't tell an owner their dog is missing shots. Is that not your job? The lady on the phone proceeded to yell at me and kept talking over me when I asked questions. She told me I was "rude" when I asked why they weren't given. This place is a joke and if you want to put your animals life at risk ( I.E My dog was running around with no rabies shots. We go out in the trails...) then go here. You will be threatened, not be advised of your animals info and told you are rude when you ask why they didn't do the job they are paid to do. I'm now with Park Vet in Sherwood Park. They were nothing but fabulous to me and gave me lots of information about shots. What they are called, what they do, etc. Riverbend needs to train their employees and teach them the importance of keeping documents in order.

Excellent Bunny Doctor, Dr. Bear. We have struggled with other Vets with our bunny, Loppington's eye problem which started affecting her ear. After over a year of constant vet appointments, dyes, medications, no resolve, no proper diagnosis and $k's spent we got fed up and took the recommendation from a friend to go to Riverbend. There we met Dr. Bear, who almost brought me to tears because she not only gave me a solution to the problem, a easier way to give Loppy, the clever one, medication, she cared and wanted to help my Lil Loppy get better and she didn't want to rape my pocketbook. A day after the first eye treatment my Lil Loppy was getting back to being the happy, curious and energetic bunny she once was. After the last treatment, we've seen even more of an approvement. I highly recommend Riverbend and Dr. Bear. I would like to also note, the all the Staff and Doctors are amazing, kind, helpful and very understanding. They genuinely love animals and want to help them. Thank you.

On December 8th i phoned in as soon as the doors open and was told that I could bring my two skinny pigs in just before 10 and the doctor would check them out before heading into surgery. Dropped them off and told them that my piggys were both losing ALOT of weight to the point where I can see their ribs and pelvic bone!!!! After filling out the correct papers they said that I would get a phone call when the exam is finished. Now I had expected it to not take it very long so I didn't pack any food or water just had a carrier, a tea towel on the bottom and two small blankets as it was chilly out. I waited and wait but no phone call so at 5:30 I called the hospital and asked if my pigs were ready and that I haven't heard anything all day and if they were ok, the lady started to tell me that my piggies teeth were growing a little funny and that was it. I asked if there was anything else as they came in for weight loss, I was only told that the doctor would explain it and that I should pick them up as they are closing soon. I rushed out the door and was about 5 minutes away from the clinic and I get a phone call from the vet it was doctor bear who repeated what the First Lady told me and again leaving out the part and their weight!!!! I was told that they were perfectly fine and that if I felt that they were getting even more "sick" then they can check the urine sample. I left feeling really upset and a feeling that my piggies were really sick along with a $200 bill for just an exam and my skinny pigs were left in a small carrier for 8 HOURS, and their blackest and tea towel were soaking wet!!! I carried on with how I was treating them, and I thought they were getting better but on the 27th they began to get skinny again. Trying everything I could think of bathing, different food, veggies. Then on the 31st I set out for work at the pet store and came home and found that my brown skinny pig ( Homunculous) was extremely skinny and snot and throw up was everywhere!!! I bathed them both and syringed them water but Homunculus did not eat anything but a carrot then became limp the moment I tried to set him back in to his cage!!!!! He could not stand nor hold himself up. It's far too clod for him to go outside right now so I had to make the decision to just hold him and cuddle until he stiffened up and passed away!!!! I am VERY UPSET that the doctor told me that my piggies were healthy when they were most definitely NOT!!!!!!! Maybe my little hippo would still be here if they got the proper care.

Took my bird in in the advice of another bird owner and I'm glad I did. The vet was amazing and when my bird didn't recover the way she told me he would, she saw him again free of charge and gave us more medication and more tips to keep him healthy. They are accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly. When I asked the vet about my hedgehog's demeanor, even though I didn't bring her in for a checkup, the vet was happy to give me advice.

I was in with my rabbit Lou over a month ago to have some skin irritations looked at. It was a bit of a confusing case but Dr Molnar worked her magic and Lou healed up beautifully. I was suppose to call in and follow up on the situation which i apologize for not doing, but the cream and other treatments i was given for Lou worked so perfectly i completely forgot to call in for further assistance since Dr Molnar solved the problem first try! His ears are perfectly healed, he's healthy and active and his room-mate ellie never developed any issues at all. I bring my dog Finley to this clinic as well and am always very comfortable and confident that my animals are being well cared for. Thanks always!

Hands down - best animal hospital I have ever been to. They see cats, dogs, birds, reptiles, and possibly rodents. I have my bearded dragon seen by Dr Lam who is an amazing DVM and a total sweetheart to her patients and their owners. If you have a reptile, go to her.

I’ve left this clinic due to bad service and they are clearly over charging. First of all I have my dog in for shots and check up, vet spent no more than three minutes checking him and asked me NO questions. Not what he’s eating or anything. Just suggested more services. Exam rates are inflated. Second have taken my second dog in for ear infection. I was charged full exam rate and given extra small bottle of drops to put in six times a day. When I ran out of super small bottle of drops was told I needed another exam for more drops....!! For an ear infection... same dog several days later, we simply needed more drops. Not very friendly staff. Vets hardly ask any questions about your pet. Seriously about the money here not your pet or customer service. I was quoted $120 for exam to get second bottle of ear drops, UNREAL. Advice... find another vet. One that cares about your pet and not just their profits. If you look through the reviews on google you will see the common theme is over charging and not providing very good customer service. It’s true. BTW, my new vet charges half for ear infection exam, and second follow up exam is provided free,of charge to check my dogs ear. Takes ten seconds. And drops galore..! She’s prone to ear infections. Your clinic should consider this service. Not over charging but over servicing your clients and their pets.

Today I had the wonderful opportunity to meet with Dr. Pam Gordie at the Riverbend Animal Hospital and I am compelled to write this review. Over the weekend, my pet Caique parrot was not feeling well and I was beyond worried. There was no place to take her over the weekend. So when I called Riverbend the next business day, they were able to fit me in to see Dr. Gordie. I was 10 mins running behind as I was coming from a crazy busy day at work and when I called in to tell them I was going to be a few mins late, the front desk staff were so understanding. The Dr. Gordie came in and took the time to get to know the bird and her history. She asked all the right questions and showed that she had a deep knowledge and understanding when it came to avian exotic medicine (She has been treating birds for over 33 years). She took the time to explain her thought process and was very straight forward. She took the time to get to know me as a pet parent. She didn't rush me out (I have had countless vets trying to rush me out of the office in the past) and answered all the questions fully. I have been around many vets/exotic vets in the past due to my profession and this honestly was one of the best experiences I have ever had! Even the pricing for the appointment and tests were very reasonable. Glad to know she will be my vet moving forward for my bird.

I have recently started taking my dogs here. I do like the 3 doctors I have seen (Behiels, Bauer and Bear) Behiels and Bauer are a bit young but seem to be able to answer most questions and so far no complaints. Also, Dr. Horvath was wonderful with my friends parrot! However, out of the girls in the front, there is only one that is even the least bit helpful, I did not get her name. The other girls are rude, condescending and not helpful. The last time I was there I was absolutely DISGUSTED and APPALLED by Dr. Gordey. Riverbend Veterinary Clinic, from what I understand is one of the few avian veterinarians in the Edmonton Area. It was around 2:30 and someone had called with a bird emergency (from what I heard by listening to the girls) A tall dark haired girl was taking the call and asked Gordey if she could take this parrot. Her response was " No. If it comes in it would be (She put her thumb down and made a rude noise implying euthanasia) and I am not staying until 5 Oclock" I was nauseated by her response! I understand that a pet owners emergency is her everyday, but that was completely insensitive and because of it I would never trust her with one of my animals. The way she said it was as if this person wanting to save their pet was a waste of time and ignorant for even wanting to bring her bird in. The dark haired receptionist just laughed. I was NOT impressed at all! I was so offended by this that, when I left that day, I had no intention of going back! As I said though, the doctors I have seen have been great so far! I will continue to take my babies here, but I will always remember that as a red flag against this clinic, especially since she is one of the owners.

This was our first visit to this vet, they got our newly adopted sick cat in to be seen the same day (Monday). Three other vets called were booked until Wednesday with no attempt to accomodate, and our vet was only partially, not fully, covered under the Healthy Fresh Start Program/Certificate as URI's were covered and we were pretty sure that was what we were dealing with. After having, heartbreakingly, to say goodbye to two of our furbabies in less than two weeks in the past recent weeks this was a financial relief and peace of mind getting him in so quickly to be checked. Our past furbabies lived good, long happy lives. In between the losses we found this beautiful boy for our youngest 4yr old, who was pretty lonely and depressed just after the first loss, to adopt that we brought to this visit. The clinic was clean and the staff was friendly. We didn't wait too long to see the vet either. She was very personable and handle our cat with ease and care. The examination went well, she explained his URI was in the beginning stages, gave us medicine and instructions in regards to that and our other cat. She also made notes about follow up visit in a week to check his status. Otherwise he is a strong, healthy boy, and the medicine is working well so far. Which is great as our other cat has gone from quite leery to quite curious to the other cat that is sequestered until symptom free. Although not our personal veterinary clinic, I would still highly recommend them. We were pleased with our experience and the care they took and are taking in our newly 2yr old adopted addition to the family. His transition and health are of high importance just as our other furbaby. Thank you for the great work you all do!

We have been going to riverbend veterinary for a couple of years now and we love them. Our dog had to have a big surgery on her ear and they were amazing and so compassionate. They even gave her a bandage that said we love bella “are dogs name” they check in and definitely go over and above for our pet they are always accommodating. We would def recommend.

When I needed help for my very sick dog last year, Dr. Gordey came in on her day off to look after her. I have nothing but fantastic things to say about this clinic and all their Vets, AHTs and front end Staff.

My family has been bringing our birds to Dr. Gordey for over 20 years... she helped our Hahn’s macaw through a difficult battle with PDD even with treatment options being quite limited at the time. Brought my 9-month-old CAG in to see her about six months ago about some excessive itchiness and crop-adjusting and a throat culture determined it was a mild bacterial infection that was easily treated with a short round of antibiotics. Dr. Gordey has always been understanding and very upfront about what tests and treatments are absolutely necessary for someone on a limited budget. The office was willing to answer any and all of my follow-up questions and Marengo recovered very quickly from her infection. Looking to bring both Marengo and my Quaker, Bug, in for another check-up in the next couple of months as well as to get microchipped.

We were really happy with our initial visit, but we took our bird back for a beak and nail trim and it did not go well. They took her to a different room, so we’re not entirely sure what happened, but it looks like they over trimmed her beak and now she is having trouble eating. They also hurt her foot some how during the nail trim and she is having trouble standing on it. On top of this they charged us $70 for the service. I’m very disappointed and will not be coming back.

I am NOT impressed with their front end staff on the Saturday that my family had to come in. The doctor was great, but man someone needs to do get rid of the one receptionist. While waiting to have our dog's prescription filled I got nothing but a condescending tone and a roll of the eyes from a girl named Kaylen (perhaps she didn't know that I was looking at her when she did that). Disguisting. Perhaps hire staff that are more mature and reflect the company in a better manner. I will have to really think about if I want to deal with this vet clinic any longer.

Very happy with Riverbend Vet! Dr. Behiel is friendly and more than willing to answer any questions you have. She's been our veterinarian of choice since we got our dog. The receptionist staff are amazing! I would definitely refer anyone to this vet clinic. When my parent's evacuated Fort McMurray (from the fire), the staff were awesome about getting their dogs in for their vaccines and even gave them the vaccines for free and offered any dog food that my parent's may need, also for free.

I came to this vet a while ago on recommendation of a friend. I am so glad I did. I felt my old vet had gotten to the point where they knew I would pay for it so they charged through the roof. (My dog had broken is leg and we were told it needed to be pinned and it would cost upwards of $4,000. We paid for the surgery and all went well but in the follow up exam the vet casually mentioned that they could have actually casted it for $1,200 but it wouldn't have healed as well. I would have still went with the surgery but that's my choice to make, not theirs. Lots of things like that were starting to happen) This vet is so wonderful. They don't do anything like that. They explain ALL my options, there prices are so reasonable and they are very helpful. What I love is that they really want to work with my pets and myself. I am having issues with one cat and one of the options is to have him on some stress meds. I said that I really didn't want to medicate him all the time if I could be helped. They agreed and laid out some other methods for me to try first. I have mainly dealt with Dr. Bear who has be wonderful but if she isn't available one of the other vets jump right in. A fantastic vet and will always get my service. Word of warning though, they are close to two schools and some swimming place so if your trying to go around 3-5 on a weekday parking can be tricky. That is my only complaint though!

I used to rescue parrots 15 yrs ago n that’s when I first met DR Gordie. We had rescued a blue n gold macaw Clyde, who then got sick n sadly passed. But Dr Gordie and her staff took care of him n then sent home when it was close to the end. She then did a free autopsy to find out why a 100yr bird passes at 15. He died of kidney failure due to drug use. We rescued from a bad place. ????Please don’t ever let people get your pets High ????????it’s not funny. This clinic is amazing. I’ll be bringing my Brat Ruben in for a check up soon. Haha Rubens gonna behave this visit DR Gordie. So he chirps hahaha

Love love love Dr Bear. She's absolutely great in treating and handling our family's dog and has been for years. The only thing that I found somewhat uneasy was only one of the front end staff that I met (a young blonde doe eyed girl that I believe I recall her name as Kay-Lyn) was wearing a low cut shirt that I would strongly suggest was inappropriate and discussing personal things that could be overheard even though she was speaking quietly. That was a few months ago and as I hadn't seen her working there before I don't suspect that she would last long at such a reputable and respectable establishment. Regardless I wouldn't change vets as Dr Bear is amazing!!!!

Dr Behiels has been wonderful with our geriatric little Muffin, and especially patient with Muffin’s worry-wart of a mother! The staff are equally lovely. We have been delighted with the quality of care Muffin receives here and definitely recommend this practice.

I adopted my dog on May 2016 and I hadn't any experience on dog training. I appreciate Dr. Lam because she always answer my questions with a lot patience. Why patience? Last year I asked her to write her advise because my English is not good and she did. Also I appreciate for lovely staff. They are all polite and have a nice behavior to me.

This is the very best vet office in the city and I happen to be convinced that our family was blessed by getting one of the best version in the world for our puppy! We had an incident in Calgary with our puppy and she took the time to read the notes sent from the Calgary office and follow up with our family and pup. Wanted to charge an overnight charge for our dog and wanted to charge extra to have someone ctecknkn him in the middle of the night. My wife felt better keeping our dog at home with us. The Vet gave her the dirtiest look like we don't care about our dog. Switched bets and are now very pleased. Over priced service. Much better elsewhere.

They railroaded us into getting a pet euthanazied, saying there was little change surgery would be successful. We trusted them, but that was a big mistake, after further research we learned that the condition can be successfully treated in many cases.
