What an incredible experience! We see Dr. Sarah Ondrich, and she is amazing on both a professional and personal level. You can really tell she wants what is best for your animal, and her knowledge regarding her practice is a testament to that. Can't recommend her enough! If you're looking for a vet/clinic this is the place to go.

I'll admit that my interactions with this vet have been limited; but the only experience I've had has been a pretty frustrating one. I went in to try and refill a prescription for a family pet who has repeatedly had a problem with yeast infections in his ear. I was told that this prescription could not be auto refilled and we would have to wait until the Dr. was finished with her appointment in order to have the prescription filled. As we were on our way out of town with our dog for 5 days we obliged to wait a half an hour for the Dr. to finish her appointment. We waited only to find that they wanted us to book an appointment in order to refill the prescription. This was very frustrating on two levels. One we were misinformed as to the ability to have the prescription filled thus wasting time and putting us into rush hour traffic on the way out of town. And two, not taking into consideration the ability for a dog owner to recognize symptoms that have been a repeated issue.

We have been going to VCA Dalhousie for more then 10 years. They have been the best to work with. Our pet has been treated well every time we have taken her there. She is know 11 years old and they are continuing to provide excellent care to our pet.

Our dog had surgery here, which went reasonably well, albeit insanely expensive and they forgot to tell us when to pick him up. Follow up was ridiculously poor and we lost confidence. We ultimately had to take him somewhere else to have his stitches removed. Front end staff have a lot to learn about following up with patients.

I have been bringing my beautiful German Shepherd to this facility since he was 8 weeks old and he is going to be 10 years old this year. I can say that my boy has been in the best hands! I trust this team...even though the turn over with staff has been difficult...I trust them. I feel they always go that extra mile for Sandor. If they do not have answers, they refer me or seek another expert opinion. I love Dr. Madison Montgomery. She knows her stuff...but what means the most..she treats Sandor like he is my family and it is so apparent she understands the bond. I trust her with his life. Thank you to all of you !!!!

My dog had a wellness visit a few days ago with Dr. Madison Montgomery. I had taken my pet to the Dalhousie clinic (prior to the merger with Varsity) for the past seven years and always had a good experience. However, my/my pet's interaction with Dr. Montgomery was at a whole other level. Dr. Montgomery spent more time with me than all of my other vet appointments over the years combined. She was very sweet with my dog (who can be a little ornery), and she gave a very thorough exam. She gave me some suggestions for discipline, hip/joint care (my dog is 10 years old) and dental hygiene. Thank you for a great experience!

I really trust this clinic for my dog and cat. I had my dog skin check with Dr. Tracy Stevens and I would highly recommend her! She was so patient to answer all your questions and concerns and very professional. She called me after the skin test report was out and checked in with me. Most important is that after her treatment, my dog get so much better and eats better than before. Thank you so much Dr. Stevens!

I agree with all of the other reviews about this location wasting everyone else's time. I think they must double book every appointment at this location. I was booked with Dr. Sarah Ondrich. I waited in the parking lot for over an hour and 20 minutes past my appointment time before they could see my dog. I was then upsold on a bunch of items I said I didn't want (tick medicine, more frequent deworming meds than requested, etc.). $400 later and I was told to come for a "quick follow up" appointment the following week that would be right at their opening time of 9 AM just to check my dogs eye was healing from conjuctivitis. I arrived just before 9 and called, then waited 30 minutes on hold in the parking lot again before deciding to leave. A total of 2 hours of waiting beyond a scheduled appointment in just 2 appointments is absurd. Would highly recommend choosing a different vet that doesn't double book every appointment.

Several years ago I lost an 8 month kitten at this vets. He had an untreatable 100% fatal disease and I was dealt with in such a kind manner. My surviving cat recently got very sick and we took him to see Dr Swain. It turned out he needed surgery and soon. Having just had a baby and being on EI this was a big financial hit that we would struggle to afford. She spent what felt like an hour on the phone explaining our options. She offered to do the surgery at a discount as she had never done it before but that there would be vets available that had done it if she had any questions. This was the only way we could afford to do it. We went ahead and I was called to be told he was doing well as soon as they were done. She called a day later to check on him. We have since discovered this is likely a chronic problem and he will need to be watched and treated for the rest of his life. However, whenever I have a question or concern I can just call the clinic and she calls back in an hour. The nurse Colleen was also lovely and answered all our questions when we collected him.

Our poodle was diagnosed with Lymphoma, which is incurable. Dr Ondrich called us after the clinic closed and gave us the sad news, dealt very compassionately with our grief and stayed on the phone for more than an hour going over treatment possibilites. She recognized that chronic illnesses are very costly and she went above and beyond to minimize our expenses. A lot of vet care is guesswork and we found the way she explains her logic behind her diagnosis' is very clear and confidence inspiring.

I recently took my 14 year old min schnoodle to see Dr Swain. My dog needed a prescription for regular pain meds to take the edge off her arthritis aches. I was very impressed with Dr Swain for her thoroughness and practicality concerning treatment / care for my senior dog. Dr Swain obviously loves what she does, and the animals in her care. I dropped my dog off to have 2 teeth removed at 8 am, they kept him until 1:30 pm and then started the procedure, they removed fourteen teeth and my little guy doesn't trust me anymore, I'm 60 and have had dogs all my life, I've never seen such a blatant display of gouging in my life, I'm disgusted.

Our little dog was misdiagnosed. In spite of having our dog for most of the day there was no change. We took our dog to the vet on 4th street NW where he was properly diagnosed. There is a certain amount of competence expected when a person is charged a lot but no quality care is given.

This vet is perfect for first time pet owners. I’ve had my cat Ronnie for almost 3 months and he’s already had some complications. (he had previous problems before we got him as well) I’m a pretty cautious person already and always want to make sure I’m taking care of him right and they are ALWAYS there to answer all my stupid questions. Or pick up the phone when I’m in a panic because my cat ate a chicken bone and I don’t know what todo. They care about your animal just as much as you do and I’m forever great full for the attentiveness and just over all greatness of the staff at this vet clinic.

They take AMAZING care of our dogs. They go above and beyond every time we are in to make sure our babies are healthy. Soemtimes that even means doing something extra to make the doggies more comfortable. They always explain things fully so we are best informed on decisions we need to make and they keep us aware of the financial burden/options ahead of time too. Would highly recommend!

Was sold outdated meds AGAIN... seems to happen 9 times out of 10. Was told to bring in the portion that will be outdated by the time they're supposed to be administered and I can have a replacement for returned items when they get some that won't be outdated. This will be in over a years time. Since they have trouble remembering what was said or prescribed just 3 months ago, I want my money back and an actual prescription for the items needed. I was told that they can't do that either, by the receptionist, Justina, who wanted me to believe that their pharmacy was at fault THIS time and I should speak to them. I didn't purchase the prescription from their pharmacy, I purchased from them. I wanted to speak with the doctor and was first told that she just walked into the examination room...then it was into surgery, and couldn't be disturbed. Fine! After trying to pin down a time that she could get back to me, Justina hung up on me. Be aware! Always check expiry dates on prescribed medications purchased from this office, preferably before you leave their office or you may be required to jump through their hoops like me. After a confusing message was left on my phone just a week ago, the doctor said she was very embarrassed over what was given to me on a previous visit that had been mislabeled by their office (a bottle of liquid meds that had tablet instructions) and told me to throw it out as it was probably expired and wasn't sure what it was anyway. Doctor does seem to be genuinely concerned about pets, though.

If you like to waste time, this is the place! Front desk girl took me to a room, says the vet will be with you shortly! 25 minutes later, no one, I got my dog and left. The year before, similar, waited 20 minutes, and she finally show up, but seemed like she was afraid of animals, and didn't do much in the way of a examination. But charged the full amount on the bill. Obviously this female entitled vet only values her time, and could care less about your time. Made another appointment at a different vet, 1:00.....and was out of there 1:15! Don't be afraid, if the service stinks, go elsewhere.

Wow! I was completely blown away by our experience today! Let’s start with the initial experience before meeting the vet. First we were brought into the room by a lovely, sweet lady (wish I knew her name) who not only gave us a blanket to sit on but brought a colouring book and stickers for a my son to help keep him preoccupied. She was incredibly sweet to my little girl Persephone with her sore leg and immediately just relaxed our anxious nerves. Next, we meet Dr. Amy Waterhouse! I have no words to accurately describe what a splendid person she is. She was absolutely amazing, lovely, honest and very caring of my little girl. She even brought her exam over to Persephone to ease her stress and I could tell Persephone felt at ease cause Dr. Waterhouse left us all feeling calm and well looked after. She never tried to “sell” me anything but offered suggestions and also answered my MILLION questions without hesitation or frustration. We were there for an hour as she got to know Persephone and us as well. She even started to cry when I started crying talking about our cat that died a few months ago. I am so relieved I finally found the Veterinarian I trust my fur babies with! Dr. Waterhouse is the best Veterinarian I have encountered ever! Highly recommend!

I recently got my first rescue puppy. I switch to this vet from another vet and couldn't be happier. The last vet missdiagnosed my puppy and could've quite possibly killed her with the medication they prescribed. Varsity Vet stayed an hour later past closing hours to ensure she did a proper check up, and diagnosed her properly. Even got a puppy welcome package. Outstanding Vet, I'd highly recommend to anyone.

A month and a bit ago our little 5 month old kitten Frankenstein decided to munch on some foam and it completely obstructed his bowel and he required emergency laparotomy surgery. I was absolutely devastated and worried for my little boy. From the very beginning me and my family were treated with respect, empathy and honesty about the situation. Dr. Amy Waterhouse is my hero! She is so wonderful and thorough and because of her and Dr. Sarah, Frankenstein gets to see his first Christmas. Not only were treated so amazingly but we were also given an additional complimentary exam and hydration following the surgery plus specialized food to ease his transition back to solid food. I’m so amazed by the staff at this vet clinic! They are all so perfect and sweet. If you want your darling pets to be treated like gold take them here! You won’t regret it!

My dog was recently in emergency due to gastroenteritis. He was put on meds and sent home and was doing better, but I was really nervous about stopping the prescription food in case it caused problems again. I called Dalhousie Vet and even though they didn't deal with this particular issue, they took down all my concerns and Colleen, a vet tech, called me back and spoke to me for almost 30 minutes about the best options for me and my dog. She listened and truly cared and I can't even begin to tell you how far that goes!! I felt heard and that she genuinely wanted to help. Colleen, you made a crummy/stressful situation that much better and eased my mind and I'm so thankful for that!!

Dr. Amy has been our vet for a number of years now, we followed her from her previous clinic with our previous dog. She is kind and knowledgeable, understanding the difficulty of decisions when it comes to pet health. She went above and beyond with our previous dog’s care until we had to put her down, and she supported us without judgement through that sad process. We are excited to be back at the clinic with our new family member who we rehomed this summer. When we were looking at rehoming I called the clinic for advice and Dr. Amy called me back the next day and we spoke for at least 30 minutes, discussing the questions I had and offered her advice.
