Horrible, had surgery booked for today and took our dog in to only find out the Vet was not in today. Was asked to rebook for January. We drove from out of town to come here and also took the day off work. All we got was a sorry that's too bad we can re-book you guys. Absolutely horrible experience with this Veterinary Hospital. We had our Swiss mountain dog in for surgery on her left shoulder she was only 6 months old and able to walk with a sever limp. Dr Keys did the operation and with 4 months of guarded activity she now walks normally and is a play full puppy thanks to Dr Keys. The surgery was not cheap but worth every penny

This facility is open 24/7, and the staff are wonderful. It's not a place you want to go but when you or your family need to it is here. One of the times I was able to get food here, since my kitty has an allergy and he ran out of food but I wasn't able to make clinic hours. Most recently Durring covid our families dog was admitted before passing on to her next life, the staff was amazing even considering all covid restrictions and that made a world of difference for all of us. I hope your family never needs this facility but if you do have no hesitation, 5 stars.

I am truly blown away with Dr. Tara Dixon and her team. I traveled hours to see her because how highly recommended she is in the French bulldog community. She is extremely knowledgeable and actually spent a ridiculous amount of time with me to make sure that I am educated on how my dogs allergies can be handled. After just a few days using her treatments she recommended my little guys skin is is looking better then it has in the last 3 years!!!! Their pricing is also extremely fair! 2020 update: I could not ask for such compassionate, kind & helpful staff. The girls at the front are so awesome and helpful. During covid I have had the worst happen with my kitty and I was so lucky to have the kindest help from Carmen. She made the saddest thing in the world a tiny bit easier and I can never repay her for that. She has also helped me with both of my cats special diets for a few years now, I know she definitely helped me help them have a much more healthy life. Cannot thank you enough!! I purchase my food here for my Kidney cat and I couldn’t have had any better of staff help me! Always knowledgable, these girls know their product which is so helpful. The fact that they can recommend things that could work with my picky cat instead of just the typical “sorry I don’t know what to tell ya” means the world to me. I appreciate all the help I have received from you girls and my fur baby of course does as well!

They are simply the BEST at surgery! I have used Dagmar for years for all my surgery needs. I'm a professional groomer and I see a lot of dogs post surgery and observe how they heal, what kind of post operation infections etc that occur. All of my dogs have healed beautiful with not a scar, with no issues after waking from anesthesia. ( Two standard poodles) . My latest surgery was a lump removed. Shown the day it was done ( may 8)and today ( may 21) 2020.. The pain pills made her sleepy, otherwise she was feeling like herself right away..

Dr. Dixon has taken care of all 4 of my dogs since I moved into the Red Deer area. She is exceptionally compassionate and caring of each furbaby. Although we had to say 'goodbye' to Chico due to a heart defect, her compassion and therapies for all my furbabies continue to impress me. She is an awesome veterinarian who goes above and beyond for your animals. The reception staff at Cedarwood are always eager to help and responds quickly to emails or voicemails. The entire team at Cedarwood is a cohesive unit of caring, compassionate individuals. Why would you take your furbabies any where else????

My dog was diagnosed by Cedarwood with a bladder stone that would need to be surgically removed as it was too big to pass. They said they measured the stone size and it was about 1cm long - very large for a tiny teacup puppy. The surgery time came, they opened her up and of course, sedated her only to find nothing. Nothing! They opened my sweet little darling up for nothing and then still managed to charge us $700 for doing it. The vet said she did an X-ray before hand and did not see a stone, but went ahead to open my dog anyway. It was absolutely awful. I don't know how this vet clinic has a "good" reputation. I would never let anyone who loves there dog as much as I do go to this vet clinic and possibly experience that nightmare we did, and had to still pay for. They did not care of what they did, nor show much compassion, nor knew what they were doing. Do not go here! It was Innisfail Vet Services that saved my Tika, as best they could anyway.

We brought our dog, Twinkie to the clinic for spaying. Of course, she was new and not properly introduced, so she was a bit aggressive towards the vet/s. They had to put her in a kennel to be able to get her to sleep, and during the process, she broke her molar. They informed us about it and gave her a free operation for her molar as well. While they were doing the operation, they trimmed her nails. We have not been able to trim her nails until we brought her, as she would cry every time. I could recommend the clinic to anybody I know, and the staff are very approachable. 5/5

My St. Bernard girl Scruffy was very sick the last three years and all of the staff was kind and compassionate with our girl and my family. They gave us all the help and support we could ask for, provided amazing care and made real connections with us all. When it came time to put my girl to sleep the staff who had cared for her the last three years were as heart broken as we were. They even conducted an autopsy at no cost to us so they could finally find out what had been happening the last three years and let us know just for piece of mind. The staff here is top notch and I know everytime I go in they will do anything and everything needed to care for my two new fur babies. I have been using this clinic as well as their animal emergency clinic for over 12 years and I would never take them anywhere else. We have used other clinics if we had to and none even came close to the staff or service at Cedarwood. Dr. Dagmar Schouten and Dr. Angela Reid are by far the best vets I have ever had the pleasure of having care for my babies and the only two vets I would trust to care for them using any method because they never give up if there are still options to try. We are blessed to have them as our puppies Doctors.

I brought in my cat this morning who was not doing well, she passed away in my arms right before we were able to get her in. We called the office and they came and grabbed her right away and when they realized she had passed they let us in right away. We came in and they brought me my baby girl right away and were very kind. She said "here you go you sweet girl, go to mommy as they passed me my kitty. It was very comforting (as comforting as possible in that situation) and felt like they actually cared about me and her. As opposed to a different veterinary office I took her to last week when I noticed she wasn't doing good they sat their and talked to me telling me my cat didn't have long to live as I am sobbing, 20 minutes had passed until I had to beg them to bring me my kitty. At ceaderwood they were very kind, and let us spend as much time to say our goodbyes and let me look through memorial options. As heartbreaking of a day it has been their kindness and caring they showed me made a difference.

I have had many occasions to visit Cedarwood Veterinary Clinic over the years. The doctors and vet techs are absolutely wonderful there. Even when things don't go as well as everyone hopes with our pets , they always treat my wife and I with respect and comfort . The best pet care anyone can ask for and reasonably priced. Very upfront with expected costs of treatment and options available. I would recommend them to anyone with a family member in distress, or just a heath check. We even bring pet's in just to visit so they're happy to go there.

They have a chiropractor that comes to them monthly and adjusts my dogs and have done laser treatments on them as well. We are even trying a different pain medication. I highly recommend them.

My dog very suddenly fell ill and we took her to this vet/emergency hospital. She was an 8 and a half year old lab with no prior health problems. Suddenly she stopped eating, drank very little and was extremely lethargic, so I took her to the actual vet portion of the hospital the first time. They checked her out and did blood work which came back fairly inconclusive. Suggested it was an infection and to feed her white rice and boiled chicken. They next day after she was still refusing to eat I took her to emergency side. They gave me antibiotics and even tried to administer her first dose. They managed to get one of the two pills down and sent me on my way. Of course, trying to feed a dog that doesnt want to eat, very bitter pills was futile and despite eventually finding a pill gun in red deer I felt awful trying to force these down her throat. I was able to do it, but she hated me for it. I waited 2 days after the emergency visit, doing everything in my power to get my dog to eat. Eventually I had to take her back to the emergency side and they suggested x-rays. Did the x-rays only for her to tell me they needed to do more as the first set wasn't clear. Which of course ment more money. At this point (aftet this happening over a weeks time) my dogs breathing had become more rapid and shallow and she clearly was deteriorating faster by the hour. They then suggested she be kept for two days and they monitor her. The prices they quoted me just for staying two days was far and above what I could justify and sadly we had to put her down. It was heartbreaking and though they accommodated us nicely for that, I feel like that is just something that exists because of human decency, not because they are exceptional vets or anything. Here is where my 1 star review is based. Throughout this entire ordeal with both sides of this hospital my dog wasn't eating. Yet, they seemed to expect that she would eat these bitter pills and though they kind of showed me how to use a pill gun, I spent two days searching in red deer to find a gun that would accommodate the large size of these pills. Whether or not these pills would have saved her, I felt like these guys didn't really care if she took the pills or not. They saw how difficult it was to try and shoot these things into the back of her mouth and were well aware she wouldn't actually eat food. There seemed to be a disconnect between what their training told them and what the reality of the situation was. Of course there may have been no other option but they certainly never told me that. They also offer loans for treatment which feels unethical to me. High interest loans offered to someone who is in grief. I'll just leave it at that. Whatever. I would have never have even thought to leave a review because of any of that. Still wouldn't recommend them to others but that's as far as it would go. About an hour ago I get a call from the emergency department asking me about my dog. One week after our first emergency visit and 2 days after we put her down, in the emergency hospital. One star for seeming to lack both concern for my ability to administer the treatment and for obviously being incompetent. Calling me not two days after I had to make that awful decision, inquiring about the health of the dog whose corspe they had to dispose of. If that isn't a sign of incompetence, I don't know what is.

Not usually one to complain but my wife needed to get dietary cat food for two of our cats. She wasnt allowed in due to Covid and had to ask for two kinds of cat food over the phone. Whoever answered sounded like she was burdened by having to do her job to the point that she didnt want to deal with it. In the end when she couldnt find the stuff right away on the computer she said she would have to go look and literally hung up on my wife. Waited a couple minutes and just said screw this place and drove away. Not allowed in, rude service and hung up on. I understand people have bad days but that was a bit much.

I guess that when you are used to Courteous service from Vet Clinics you come to expect It. And you notice when it is otherwise. Cedarwood isn't my usual veterinary provider so this was my first experience. Front end staff were unfriendly . This was both in the morning when we brought the animal in and later on in the afternoon when we picked it up and paid the bill. Maybe just having a bad day. Once we got into the exam room with the vet it was the usual professional service that I would expect.

2 years ago my pup had to have knee surgery and my local vet referred me to Cedarwood. I was very very anxious and stressed. But Dr. Keys and the staff were amazing. Extremely poor service. We called ahead to let them know we were coming in with a dog in labor that was having difficulty and was severely disttessed. When we arrived we told them that we did not want a xray or ultrasound. That took our dog into the back and immediately did an ultrasound. They then met with us and told us that there were 2 live puppies and one that they couldn't tell. They informed us could start a C section right away and we should be done in about 2 hours. 3 hours later, we were waiting in the office, and we had to call them on the phone from their waiting room to find out what was going on. They told us that they were just going to start the C Section. They should have told us that our dog would have to suffer for another 3 hours and risk both her life and that of the puppies. If they had been honest we would have went to another vet to have the procedure done so our dog did not have to suffer. Very poor customer service and no respect for animals. They didn't care that our dog was suffering.

But what really matters is how much care and attention they show to all animals and the families who love them. We recently had to say goodbye to a beloved pet and their sympathy and kindness was so above and beyond. They were ready for us when we came in and allowed us a quiet, comfortable room to cuddle and say our goodbyes to Bug. Our doctor didn’t rush and allowed us to set the pace and offered her reassurance throughout the last moments of our pet’s life, even sharing her fondness and the small moments she and her team had with our kitty. Then to receive a beautiful card hand signed by all the staff with a poem with our girls paw prints on it was so thoughtful. Bug was just another cat that came through the doors, but you would never know it from the warmth and care they shared and expressed to us. There is no other place to take your pets.

We have been going to Cedarwood for 2 years now and have always had wonderful experiences. Even through the loss of one of our beloved dogs and a critical illness of one of our cats, we have been shown compassion and amazing care. Dr. Dixon is an absolutely wonderful person and vet who truly loves her patients and their family! Though, I have seen other vets at this clinic who have also been awesome as well.

I have used cedarwood a few times, we have accident prone cats. We had a kitten get out and injest antifreeze to the point there was no help. So instead of running expensive, unnecessary tests, they held my hand, gave my little guy all the love he could ever want and sent him over the Rainbow bridge. I've tried a few other vets in town and this is the one that fits perfectly, from our dog who was attacked by a magpie to our cat who doesn't move when you walk and got stomped on pretty good. While i think my cat is the best cat in the world she really has an aggression to anyone other than me or my husband. She is pushing 16 years old and had some pretty big mats on her tummy.My regular vet would not sedate her to get her shaved because of her age. So I went to Cedarwood.They took my cat in and assessed her and said no problem. They were kind to her and really showed they cared. Highly recommend this clinic! My husband and I took our little hound in for knee surgery after she ruptured her tendons. Me being a crazy dog mom needed to know every little detail of what was going to happen and the post surgery care that would be required. Dr. Keys spent a hour going through what would happen and what to expect. Initially, we were booked in for a consultation but because my dog needed to be sedated for the x-rays, Dr. Keys gave us the option of having the surgery the same day to avoid having to sedate her again and to prevent my husband and I from having to take another day off from work (we are from out of town). Leaving my dog overnight in an unfamiliar environment after going through a traumatic event had me nervous however the vet tech Melissa Bauer put my mind at ease. Melissa understood right away what I was feeling and her compassion and caring put my mind at ease. Every person in that clinic expressed concern and care for my little fur baby. I couldn't have had a better team of professionals taking care of my little hound.

Despite covid protocols this has been my best experience with a vet— she listened to what I had to say, empathized and problem solved with me instead of simply telling me the textbook answer. Having a geriatric dog comes with a lot of heartbreaking decisions balancing treatments/interventions with quality of life, and the vet at Cedarwood totally validated that these are tough decisions. She laid out all my options and didn’t make me feel guilty or pressured toward any one treatment— she did not seem money-motivated in the slightest, and did not pass judgement regarding the decisions I made for my dog. I also thought of another question after the appointment was over, phoned back, and was able to speak to the vet for additional few minutes which was amazing. I’ve never had a poor interaction with any staff at Cedarwood.

Very disappointed in the customer service we received by the front end staff today. Background: Both of our dogs have been patients here for just over a year, we have spent well over $10,000 at this clinic in that time frame on 2 TPLO surgeries on our one dog, and allergy care for our other dog. We called to refill our dogs ear drop prescription this morning. I received a call back not long after saying his prescription would be ready shortly, and they asked if we would pick up before close at 5:30pm or if they should place it at the emergency clinics desk. I told them we would be there today. When my husband got there they then told us it must have been a misdial or they called us by accident to let us know his prescription was ready??? They then stated in order to get the medication, the working vet would like to do an exam to prescribe the drops. However it is an ear drop he has been prescribed previously and our vet told us to call in if we need more. After the run around we had today we will be going elsewhere. What a complete waste of our time.

I’ve adopted rescue cats my entire life and they have all lived long and healthy lives well into their late teens. When it came time to make that very difficult decision to let them cross the rainbow bridge I was given every available scenario for treatment and guality of life. I had done everything I could medically until I knew I was keeping them around for me and had to let them go. Anyone who has had animals knows it’s the hardest and saddest day. The staff were always so great. I knew they were sad for me. I would never consider another vet clinic ever! I love the entire team here!

All my dealings with Cedarwood Vet Hospital have been excellent. The girls behind the desk are all friendly and informative. I took my cat Tobie there last month. The vet was very gentle with Tobie and quickly made a diagnosis of her sickness, hyperthyroidism. He prescribed pills for her condition and Tobie is slowly recovering, as shown by the blood tests given by the vet. My whole experience with Cedarwood was very positive! Dr. Graham Keys is amazing! I traveled from Calgary to get my Olde English Bulldog TPLO surgery (1 knee done 6 weeks post op, getting the second one done right away). He explained the whole surgery in great depth. He has recovered much quicker and better than my other OEB who had TPLO surgery last year from a different vet. We were sent home with a very indepth post-operative instruction recovery booklet. All the support staff I have met and spoken to are all very friendly. 100% reccommend this clinic if you're looking for a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon.

Brought my cat in with some concerns about allergies, they had a dermatologist in that day, that at the time of our appointment was in surgery. But asked if I could leave my kitty there and come back so they could get a solid answer on what exactly was happening. About an hour after I had let him, they had called me and told me exactly what was happening with him. Gave me a write up and gave me suggestions on what steps to take next. The day after I had called back because my cat was not taking his pills and we were having issues even catching him. So they suggested a hypoallergenic wet food, and some pill pockets to help aide us in this struggle.

July 3/13 – I wanted to get my Missygirl (dog) into see a vet on this day for a fluid issue in her left ear. She has been going to Cedarwood Veterinarian Hospital for years. I was told by the staff member Melisa that they were not taking appointments for dogs because it was cat night. Unbelievable! I was forced to go to the Animal hospital which shares a building with Cedarwood. I complained about this to the hospital staff and told them I’ll be taking my dogs elsewhere. On my way home I got a call from Cedarwood saying they would make an exception and take Missy in. I promptly said “no thanks” and proceeded to get my records from them forwarded to a different veterinary clinic. I hope the new clinic doesn’t have a “gold fish night” once a month. (Sarcasm).

We have a small poodle that has diabetes, just recently found out. Insulin injections are required and it was hard trying to master this task. The staff at Cedarwood made arrangements for the injections to be done through the Emergency office next door for a week to help with the learning process. They are also training me on how to do them. This has made my life a lot easier as the stress was really getting to me. Cannot thank the staff enough for all their great support and service over the years. We have been dealing with them since 1988 and would not consider going anywhere else.
