Dr Sandra was amazing with my big boy. She was loving, caring, patient and knew what she was doing. It made it very pleasant for my pouch and I. She was able to answer all of our questions and concerns and my hairy senior mastiff baby received lots of love. Thank you!!

Michael Heacock

This place is so awesome. Much less expensive than anything in Calgary. The vets are super friendly and will explain in detail everything you need to know about your dog's (or your animal's) condition.

Great Vets and excellent service at affordable rates

Dr. Kristi was awesome to advocate for our Frenchie, ensuring she was admitted to a Calgary hospital immediately after seeing her. (We were sent home several times over a week without a confirmed diagnosis by the Calgary hospital even though she was in obvious discomfort) Without her compassion and professionalism our dog would have suffered needlessly even longer. Diagnosis and treatment received! She called me to make sure our dog was doing ok after the hospital discharged her. Thank you for your help! We'd had nothing but good experiences with this clinic since we were recommended years ago by friends. ????

Mike Marr

We followed many recommendations here when our dog needed a TPLO procedure (ruptured CCL) and we felt so good about it we made this our new regular vet. Thanks Dr. Tom and team!

Thank you Dr. Tom and Staff! I`m so happy to report that Kaiser is doing much better! My French Bulldog was diagnosed with a slip knee, and required a procedure to fix. I searched for the best Veterinary reviews and came across Dr. Tom at Carstairs Veterinary Clinic. I called them and they were able to get me in asap. Dr. Tom confirmed the knee for me and laid out the surgical procedure required and the cost. I went ahead and booked the surgery the following week. When I arrived to drop off Kaiser I was greeted by the wonderful front staff and Dr. Tom, he went over the procedure and made sure to answer any questions that I had. When I picked Kaiser up they had a recovery plan already for me to take home with all the rehab required. Dr. Tom also gave me his direct number just in case i had any questions or concerns! Amazing. Another thing I have to mention is Dr. Tom`s integrity, he is a man of his word. The estimate is the estimate, no extra fees or costs are added on, and his pricing is very fair! Trust me, this is important. I had a horrible experience with a Vet hospital near me (south Calgary), they quoted me $1500-$1800 for a procedure. When I showed up the bill was $2650! I was shocked and disgusted as my printed quote was identical to the actual bill (procedure time, anesthetic, x-rays), except for the total itself. Needless to say, I highly recommend this clinic! They`re the best. And thanks again for taking such good care of Kaiser!

We have a silver lab that is in need of help we took her into a 24hr clinic in Calgary. It cost us $1200 for Iv fluids and an over night stay. It turns out our precious family pet has a blockage. We were told that the surgery would be over 2 grand and needed to have 75% up front. Needless to say after $1200 that was going to be an issue. We were quickly dismissed and sent home. We had our dog lay at home for another 36hrs and it got to the point that we made the decision... We could not afford the cost up front. So we would need to end her suffering and she was suffering. My wife not ready to give up started to call around. The Carstairs clinic welcomed us with open arms. They have genuine concern for her. It's after 8pm and we are getting texts and pictures from the vet assuring us she will be OK. Absolutely amazing!!

Great service and affordable prices!

Amazing staff! I wouldn't take my doggos anywhere else! All around great experience every time I've been there. Highly recommend this vet clinic.

I was looking to get a litter of kittens their first shots and deworming done. I called many vets in Calgary and wasn't impressed with the prices. I started looking outside Calgary and ended up calling Carstairs Vet. When they told me their price for litter vetting, I booked an appointment right away as it was far cheaper than any vet in Calgary!! It's a bit of a drive from Calgary, but I'll be taking my other animals there as needed as well. The clinic is insanely clean, the staff is very helpful and informative, and the vet I had, while new to the clinic, was fantastic and her goofiness made me laugh, she was excellent with the kittens and momma cat. And an added bonus, after all was said and done, I ended up paying a bit less than I was quoted on the phone, which was a nice surprise because it's always the other way around! Highly recommend this clinic!

A stray cat showed up wet and miserable on the weekend and not in great shape. I brought her to the clinic Monday morning to try and find the owner, they couldn’t, but said she was in rough shape and needed medical attention ASAP. I told them to do what they need to do to help and I’d pay. They put her on an IV did blood work, kept her overnight but she didn’t pull through. They didn’t charge me a cent. Some pretty amazing people there

Keith M.

Absolutely amazing people. The respect, compassion and care we've experienced, with every visit, has been second to none. We had to make the difficult decision to put our old Pyanees down and wouldn't have taken him anywhere else. Thank you for the amazing care.

Sheri Zacharias

My daughter has a Pit Bull that had a boat load of issues which was diagnosed as a yeast infection that she was spending nothing but money on with a few Veterinarys in the city to no avail. We took Geo to see Dr.Tom and with in an hour of being with him and his treatment he was doing remarkably better and we are happy to say he almost back to his old self! Thank you from us and Geo thanks you too!

Gregory Bokenfohr

Dr. Tom saved my dogs life. We were travelling and came in on an emergency visit. He took my boy in, reassured me, and texted me a picture in the morning to put me at ease to see that my dog had recovered. I have told everyone, including my local vet who is highly acclaimed here about Dr. Tom and I will recommend for all of my Alberta family.

Denis Tremblay

Great staff & Dr. Tom is amazing.

Shannon Wilcox

Excellent quality care at a reasonable price. We really appreciated the time our vet took to educate us, do an onsite microscope testing if our dogs recurrent ear infection to get to the root of the issue. Also really appreciated the free of charge follow up visit. Very pleased with Carstairs Vet!

Great staff, very nice people I'm sure my cat would like to go back next time he needs to visit the vet. Two paws up from Trigger.

We are so grateful for the support and excellent care from Dr. Tom and team at Carstairs Vet. They have gone above and beyond for our dog Winston. From assessment, treatment, to follow up, they always provide excellent care and have fantastic bedside manner. Thank you so much!

I am very disappointed with my experience with this vet clinic and I wish I never came here. I have my kitty neutered today. First, they charge me twice for the surgery. It was a clerical error so I was forgiving and I let it pass coz people makes mistakes. Then when I went home I notice something about my kitty's behavior. I thought is was the surgery at first but it was not. She was crying out of pain and she is elevating her arm unto me. So when I checked it there was a green bandage on her left arm. The bandage was so tight that I can't even hardly removed it with a scissor. The arm was swollen and she was jumping and leaping crying out for help to remove it. When she was release after her surgery nobody told me about the bandage on her arm that it should have been removed 10 mins after the surgery. I could have remove it when I went home if I knew. Sorry but I don't think I will be coming back here!!!!!

I can't say enough good things about this Vet! The staff are all AMAZING, extremely friendly, kind and compassionate!!! ! They are priced very reasonable and worth the drive 100 million percent if you are not from Carstairs! Your pets are number 1 when they arrive through their door! We just simply love them :)

Dr, Tom and the staff at the Carstairs vet clinic are a spectacular group. Our beloved Mastiff was facing a serious and expensive surgery. Of course our local vet wanted to send us to Calgary for the surgery, however the cost was outrageous. I did my research and found Dr. Tom in Carstairs who had experience with performing TPLO surgeries at half the cost of the Calgary vet. We are so very happy we took our Mastiff to Dr. Tom. The surgery went very well and recovery was excellent. Dr. Tom made himself available for our all our questions during the recovery period of 4 months and was happy to answer every single question. Thank You Dr. Tom!

Great vets and service

TAG

Awesome and friendly staff! Dr Chris took the time for my Cane Corso to warm up to him before he approached my boy. He was extremely knowledgeable, approachable and took the time to answer my questions. I can't say enough about our 1st visit.

KATHLEEN & BOB

We were referred to Dr. Tom Picherack after moving back to Calgary in 2016. He and the staff have been outstanding in being very professional and incredibly compassionate, particularly recently when it became necessary to euthanize one of our 2 dogs. We have never had veterinarians of this caliber previously. Thank you Tom & staff!

Jane Greenhough

Very kind and sympathetic when we had to put our kitty of 20 years down. Nice staff.

It's Friday December 31.Their website clearly says they are open today, Dec 31, 2021. Their telephone line also states they are open today. I called their phone line and it says they are busy or on the phone with another client so I should leave a message. I erroneously assume since they indicate they are open today on the website AND on the phone line message that they are open however, after driving 40kms with my sick cat, I arrive at 9:00 am to a locked gate. I find this extremely UNPROFESSIONAL!!! and IRRISPONSIBLE!! If this is how you run your business, then I certainly do NOT want you attempting to care for my pet as I would be inclined to believe you are incompetent as well as uncompassionate....not a good combination for a so-called Veterinary Clinic. All that is required is for you to change the hours you are open and closed on your website OR at the very least indicate you are CLOSED on your telephone message!!!...How difficult is that?? I would not recommend doing "BUSINESS" with this place because it's all too obvious that it's ONLY a Business to them. Sign of the times people!....too many Vets are only in it for the money these days...no commitment whatsoever. I know it's New Years Eve and all, but I trusted you and came there to get my sick cat some help, I was there for him...You Weren't!!!...Now I have to try and find another Vet, Hope my cat doesn't die, he's my best buddy!!...Happy New Year!!

had an absolute amazing experience with the Carstairs vet clinic. Had been looking around for a while for a vet to do an ACL surgery on my Rottweiler (Ruby) after she tore it off. They were by far the cheapest out of 14 different vet clinics. Dr. Tom and his staff were very professional, kind and knew what they were doing. The surgery was a success and my pup is well on her way back to 100%. I would highly recommend everyone to go here with any animal they have. I will only take my animals to see Dr. Tom and his staff. They treated my Rottie so well that she gets excited when were getting close to the vets office!!

Just had amazing experience at this place! Would absolutely recommend Carstairs Veterinary Clinic!

This is the best place! I took a couple months to take the time to find the right place for my dog's TPLO surgery and I am so glad that I did. Dr. Tom was a pleasure to talk to and answered all my questions and did a beautiful job. I will be making the drive to Carstairs from now on.

Donna K

I have taken my dogs here for a number of years and recommend them to everyone. We live in south Calgary and the drive is absolutely worth it. Great staff and reasonable fees. You won't go wrong by choosing to take your animals here.

Bear and I can't thank the people at Carstairs veterinary enough, DR. Tom is just incredible, they repaired my little buddy bear's knee and it has been flawless ever since. They are kind, fair and just really good people. Living in Calgary it is well worth the drive and refreshing to deal with a group like this. Highly recommend calling this vet first.

Barbara Smith

Sorry. I did not go to the Veterinary Clinic. However, the Car Wash was great. They share the same property.

Second time ive been there first time almost $200 more now been there $150 more instead of what they told me. Last time...

We had been bringing our dog Daisy to the Carstairs vet for about a year and they took the utmost care of our Daisy. In Sept 2017 we had a large wart removed from her front paw for half the cost of a Calgary vet. On Dec 16,2017 Daisy had something happen to her while we were out for a country drive. I called Dr Tom who had taken care of Daisy and he said to bring her in right away. Unfortunately Daisy passed while on the way. Dr Tom took Daisy from my truck and assured us he would bury her in a humane way and I know he took great care of her. Thank you Carstairs vet and Dr Tom.

michael strauski

Couldn’t be more happy for how our dog Hartley was treated and cared for after having 2 TPLO surgeries this year, thank you to all that cared for her.

Brett Fitt

Top notch service, very knowledgeable staff and Doctors. Well worth short drive from Airdrie

Andrea Innes

Dr Pickerack was fantastic for my dog's Tplo surgery - easy to get a hold of despite my shift work schedule, patient with my questions and cheaper then what I was quoted in Calgary. My dog is moving very well and I am very satisfied with his treatment. Other vet clinics have let me know my dog is barky and annoying where everyone at carstairs said he was great.

C Johnson

5 star service. Dr Tom and staff have been excellent. We had to make the very tough decision to admit our dog for TPLO surgery. We were provided a fair quote which included everything - no surprises - which was such a relief. Staff and Dr Tom answered all our questions pre and post surgery via phone, email and text, in most cases within minutes. I couldn't believe how responsive he was. We could even send photos and videos of our dog if we had questions (which we did on 2 occasions) so he could see progress and speak to any concerns we had and ensure we were on track during our dog's recovery. We followed everything the vet ordered and our dog is doing super well, confirmed by xray and 2 follow up visits with Dr Tom. Could not be more pleased and would not hesitate to recommend Carstairs Vet Clinic!! Thanks so much for your wonderful care and support Dr Tom!

***READ HORROR STORY, DO NOT GO THERE*** I used to trust VETS so much but back in feb 2020, my beloved 9 yr old dog wasn't feeling well. After taking her to the vet. My hubby was asked if he wanted to give her surgery because it appeared she had a tumor and prob she wouldn't survive. He went to the carstairs clinic alone since i had to work. So he said he would wait for me to make a decision about 2 hrs. Then the vet since he needed to have a decision and was busy that day (my hubby was holding the room and taking time). He said he could give her "something to stop the pain" my husband said yes, thinking it was sedatives. Unfortunately the Vet euthanized her and put my hubby holding the dog in the dying room, ofcourse my husband didnt realized that until later. Without consent the vet killed my dog. When i arrived she was dead and i didnt get to say good bye. We both were furious but thought maybe he knew something we didn't, also probably she was in too much pain we thought and honestly the pain of losing her outweighted any logical thinking. So after her death I decided i wanted to bury her, since i dont believe in cremetion which i also mentione this to the staff and it goes against my believes. I ask to put her in the freezer for a couple of months UNTIL the ground would warm up, they charged the whole year in advance which i didnt mind. Then COVID HIT and when i called after the lock down they said they had cremated her and disposed of her. I WAS SHOCKED!!! So i hanged up and then they called back to said they somehow had found the ashes. I was so angry, confused, upset, they had burnt my dog, taken that right from me and the worst part is until this day i will never know if the ashes i have are hers. I have realized not all Vets love animals, they have turned this in complete profit and some don't have the ethics we hope for. They take advantage of the fact we love our babies and they just make mistakes that wont accept. DO NOT GO TO THE CARSTAIRS VETERINARY CLINIC, not even an im sorry i got from them. I have all paperwork proving i paid for a whole year of freesing space and yet they took my dog, cremated her, againts my believes and dospose of her. Now i have the ashes home and still dont know if they are mine. ????????????????

This is honestly the best vet around. The staff is great. They have always been kind enough to make room for my dog when it has been an emergency. They do not try and sell you stuff or make you think there is more wrong with your dog then there really is. I have nothing but good words for this clinic. Your animals will be in good care.

Karissa Reyes

A friend of mine had recommended this vet to me a couple of months ago & I was getting quite desperate to remove a weird tumor from my dogs hind leg. My initial appointment, my ride had bailed & I was late by over an hour & Dr. Tom gladly took me in anyways , I was absolutely grateful that he did ! The next appointment for removal went smoothly ! My old boys' toe-stepping skills has gone up & cone awareness is out the window , otherwise he is doing really well ! Thank you Dr. Tom & the wonderful staff there ????

I can't say enough good things about Carstairs Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Thomas was excellent in our lose of our beloved Ruby. The staff was very caring and Scott and I want to thank you for everything.

T S

All I can say is WOW! The staff at the Carstairs Veterinary Clinic took us in on short notice (on a Saturday) to address our concerns with our Sheltie Cash. He has been having a number of issues lately and we were left feeling that our dog’s health issues were still not resolved after significant expense at another vet clinic. The staff is friendly, courteous, and took the time to thoroughly review our dog’s history and condition. We received excellent advice on what should be treated and what conditions should just be kept an eye upon. This no-nonsense advice was greatly appreciated. Not only has this advice saved us significant long term cost, the visit and supplies were significantly cheaper than what we have previously experienced. We walked in thinking we may have to say goodbye to our loyal companion, but left with renewed faith that we will have many more good times ahead for our family.

I have been going to Carstairs Vet for over a decade. They are great explaining options to the owners, and clearly care about the well-being of your animals. They do excellent work with surgeries, and after care, including when things didn't go as planned, ex stitches allergy. My last dog thought it was social visits!

John Ginn

The folks there are very knowledgeable and understand all of your pets needs. I found the costs in carstairs are better than that of the big city vets.

Lisa Wickhorst

My family highly recommends Carstairs Vet. Dr Tom Picherack took the time to explain things so we understood and took time with our dog Kaya. Staff are friendly and kind.

I have been taking my dogs to see the vets and staff at Carstairs vet for the past 4 yrs. They are second to none in their compassion and knowledge. From supporting and caring for my extremely anxious boerboel to helping me with a pup that became more aggressive as she aged and eventually we had to say good bye to. I take my dogs there knowing they will be well taken care of every time. Thank you to each and everyone of you

Jarin Winterhalt

A Dr that really cares. Calgary vet clinics gave me quotes for having my dogs leg amputated(bone cancer). Dr Tom was able to do it for around 1/4 the cost. My dog was super close to being put down, so we're very grateful.

Kate Lepine

I would recommend this clinic whole heartedly. In a week where everything that could go wrong did go wrong they were there for me and my dog. They were quick, efficient , caring, and cost conscious. I am so grateful that I found them.

Jen Ross

Two weeks ago, my dog Kujo went in for some dental work at a vet clinic in Airdrie. In the pre surgery bloodwork, some red flags were raised, so they did a full blood panel and it came back that he had cancer. An ultrasound showed a large mass on his spleen and they diagnosed him with Hemangiosarcoma, which is a very aggressive form of cancer in canines. They advised they would be able to do surgery and remove the spleen, to the tune of approximately $6000, but were only giving him 1-2 months to live after surgery, as they weren't sure if the cancer had metastasized to any other part of his body. Without the surgery, he would be a ticking time bomb, just waiting for the tumor to rupture and take him from us. He will be 11 in May and we decided we were not prepared to put him through such a procedure with such a short outcome. Devastated, I brought him home and we prepared ourselves to spend however much time we had left with him. Two days later, I was scrolling through a pet page I belong to and came across a woman whose dog had the same diagnosis. I reached out to her and was advised I should take Kujo to see Dr Tom at Carstairs Veterinary Clinic. I called and explained what I was told and they fit me in for an appointment the next day. Making that phone call was one of the best decisions I have ever made. From the moment I stepped into the clinic to picking Kujo up yesterday after surgery, I instantly felt at ease. The receptionists were welcoming and friendly and the vet techs were kind and caring. Dr Tom took the time to explain everything to me, show me what was happening inside Kujo's body and what he could do to help, told me he was confident that with the surgery, we could get another 1-2 years of good quality life out of Kujo and it would all be at a fraction of the price I was quoted from the other vet. Feeling optimistic, I went ahead and booked the surgery. Yesterday, they removed his spleen, which contained a 3.6cm tumor. They took a sample from his liver as well, and both sections have been sent to a lab for diagnosis. Kujo will be sore for a bit but once he is healed, he should be able to live a happy and healthy life for at least the next year and hopefully longer, all thanks to Dr Tom. I cannot recommend this clinic enough, thank you all for taking such good care of my little old man and for giving us some more time with him.

Dee Martin

Love Love Love Dr Tom & the staff at Carstairs Vet Clinic. We have been using their services for over 10 years and would not ever even consider using another clinic. With 3 Great Pyrenese, 1 Border Collie and 1 West Highland Terrier plus 2 horses and a flock of 50 sheep, Dr Tom has helped us through all of our trial and tribulations throughout the years. The clinic will never try to up sell their clients and will treat your animals with the up most care and compassion. So blessed to have such a great clinic in our area. Thank you Dr. Tom & staff once again!

Andrea Engebretson

I appreciate these guys so much. They are kind and clearly love their jobs. Their pricing is fair and my dogs love them.

Annaleah McAvoy

Dr. Tom did an amazing job with my dog. She needed a TPLO surgery on her left knee and has recovered amazingly well post-op. From start to finish, we felt reassured and cared for. Our girl is back to her normal happy self a few months post-op and we couldn't be happier. Thank you Dr. Tom and the awesome team at Carstairs!

Deanna Faragher

If you’re looking for for a vet that provides great services at a fair price, I highly recommend this clinic. Dr. Tom is the most genuine and caring veterinarian that I have ever met. He performed TPLO surgery on my dog and did a fantastic job. The entire team here is a pleasure to interact with.
