all my three little ones have been to this clinic and all have had excellent care. All three are elderly now and Spirit my white coloured tabby may have a tumour and has had a few surgeries on her decaying teeth and they have always treated her with love and patience, and as the thought of her maybe being on palliative care, my vet Dr. and assistance were all very good with me in carefully explaining everything in a gentle loving way, as they know how hard it is for us to loose our little loved ones. My dog Daniel almost died from an attack of another large dog at a dog park and through all the trauma they helped my dog and me through it. There is no other place I would go for my little love ones, there is also something to be said about the small town feel of knowing your vet and them knowing you and your pets, although my favourite veterinarian has left, I am very please another just as loving vet has taken over for her who is Dr. Hudson. I am very pleased with her and so glad my mind can be put at ease knowing my pets are still in great hands.

Reminders are sent annually for checkups and shots and front desk staff are helpful with printouts and account information. Prices are a bit high, several clinics in the area are cheaper. the competent friendly thorough exam and explanation as well as options of our beloved Himalayans and how gentle Dr. Loewen is with them. I couldn't afford a lot of the tests so they kept it to a minimum to get my kitties well, they had an upper respiratory infection and my darling Joey had lost a lot of weight. Dr. Loewen got them both well and Joey's weight back up with a recovery food.

Our cat had dental surgery and I was taken aback by the price but I believe that's just par for the course. Overall we are extremely happy how they treated our Spooky. There were some also post surgery items given to us to take home and try. Third visit to the vet for the same issue for our cat. I've changed my rating because it feels like they are leading us on to just more and more appointments. Received a second stronger antibiotic today as her UTI is getting better but supposedly not cleared up. What I don't get as why they wouldn't have tried the strongest antibiotic first. It feels like we are being set up for additional visits and additional $$$.

Sad update to my earlier post: We discovered our sweet doggo had advanced cancer this week and weeks (at best) to live. We made an appointment with these guys, since they are our regular vet (and nail trimmers) & we could walk vs drive home sobbing wrecks. Taking your loved one to be put down is possibly the most awful yet compassionate thing you can do, and I can't say enough about Dr. Hudson and the entire staff here and how they treated us and Bailey that day. From giving her treats off the shelf, since she didn't appreciate the regular "cookies" offered, to bringing in a blankie and dog bed (we didn't think to bring and had walked) the staff were so kind and genuinely sad with us. Dr. Hudson was wonderful, explained the process to us, and made us feel like we were absolutely making the right decision in awful circumstances. She also didn't judge and thoroughly encouraged our feeding our girl all her favorite things in the last few days, and making sure she lived her best life. The kind words and time that Dr. Hudson took with us, including the lovely words and gentleness which she showed to Bailey, meant the world to us in a really awful time and we're so thankful for how peaceful our sweet girl was when she left our lives. To the entire staff, thank you. To Dr. Hudson, bless you a million times, as you must be a saint to do the work you do. ------------------ Very impressed. First, evening appointments past 5pm are wonderful. Second, every single staff member was lovely. Finally, I really appreciate a vet who treats your pet calmly but doesn't try to sell you a ton of stuff when a couple scoops of pumpkin or some polysporin eye drops might work. We left our other vet for that reason and came here on a friend's recommendation and I'm so glad we did. Our dog has never been this chill during a vet visit ever. They're fantastic.

2021: My puppy is very nervous in new situations, and she's big. 9 months old and already 77 lbs, that's a lot of dog to be nervous. Dr. Hudson and the rest of the staff were so patient with her, they let her go on the scale in her own time and to the back room to get her nails trimmed. Dr. Hudson was so gentle and slow with my pup ensuring that she had a good experience, we got her ears and belly checked out and took samples to be tested. With lots of treats and patience my pup had a great experience and left feeling way more comfortable than when we first walked in. I really appreciate all the staff at this clinic, they take such good care of my dogs and have endless patience for my millions of questions and my nervous pup. 2019: I took my dog to Blackfalds Vet for the first time recently (Jan 2019), Dr. Hudson was so great with my dog, Abby. Abby is a bit nervous of new people and things, and Dr. Hudson took the time to get on the floor and slowly approach my dog, gave Abby time to get used to her a bit before doing anything to her. We spent some time talking about Abby's diet, her medical history, and then the reason we were there (itchy skin). She took the time to check out Abby from tip to tail, checked her teeth, ears, eyes, stomach, and then went over her body thoroughly checking her skin. I don't think Abby has had that good of a check up in years at other vets I've gone to. Dr Hudson was amazing, she made my dog comfortable and explained things really well. The front staff were also great to deal with, polite, efficient, and kind. I highly recommend this vet clinic.

Great vet clinic. After switching from a different vet due to poor communication. The first vet who saw our dog almost immediately asked if he has/ has been tested for lupus. Just looking at his nose. It took 6 months and close to $1000 in bills for the "other vet" to figure it out before changing to Blackfalds. The ladies at the front desk have always been very nice and welcoming the moment you step in the door. I have a restored faith in vets thanks to Blackfalds Vet clinic. Keep up the great work

We have been seeing this vet for the past 9 years and would never go anywhere else! Nothing but honesty and compassion from this team! They are always there when there’s an emergency, they are there for the yearly check ups and the end of life care. From front staff, to the techs, to the vets themselves they all are the most honest loving humans ever. I know I can drop off one of our fur babies and they will do what is needed without overcharging or over medicating. Since they blocked me from reviewing and commenting on their facebook page, i'll just do it here! They recently promoted the use of a tick and flea repellent called Nexgard, which is proven harmful and in numerous cases deadly! After i commented and posted a link with a newspaper article, they deleted my comment and said, it's is perfectly SAFE! I'm very disappointed with this vet clinic. One of our dogs showed significant hair and weight loss and discoloration around his eyes and nose. Initial assessment and blood sample were inconclusive, so a biopsy was performed and the tissue samples sent to a lab to check for canine lupus. The lab results were inconclusive as well, so they decided to treat for canine lupus anyways. He showed very little improvement over several weeks and they were clueless. After his condition turned to the worse and he had trouble getting up and walking stairs, they performed an x-ray with the result, that he had a tennis ball size tumor in his lung, after 3 month of treating him for the wrong disease, several visits and multiple juicy bills! After spending several sleepless nights researching, we started with natural treatments and he showed improvement. But then he turned to the worse dramatically and we decided to let him go. They refused to euthanize him at home, so we had to drag him to the clinic. I will never forget his face, he was scared and in pain. So now, 1500$ later we have the urn with our dogs remains sitting here. We will never go back to this vet! I don't know, if we could have helped our dog, if they would have diagnosed the tumor to begin with, but the whole process was more than disappointing...... Money talks here.

Beware of this vet clinic We brought our dog in cause he was shaking and vomiting and they did xrays, blood tests and couldn’t diagnose him after keeping him for 6 hours & they rant and rave all over their advertisements “pet wellness exam (blood&urine) to properly diagnose the best treatment for you’re pet” well they charged us $600 and never did the pet wellness exam at all. They were closing for the day & asked if we still wanted care for our dog that they told us to come pick him up and transport him to red deer. We took him to the animal emergency hospital & they gave him their own exam and concluded within 20 mins his diagnosis from a urine exam and kept him overnight to be safe for $325. Do not waste your time with this incompetent vet clinic!!! Especially don’t waste your money here you will be ripped off.... highly suggest going elsewhere. I give this place a -5 if I could. BEWARE!!!

I will never again take my dog to this vet clinic. Yesterday I thought he was having a seizure so I called and they took him in right away, after him spending ALL day there getting X-rays, blood work done etc they still couldn’t give us a straight answer as to what was wrong with our dog. By the end of the day they still didn’t know what was wrong with him and we were charged $600 & told that he would have to be transported to the Red Deer Animal Emergency Hospital. We took him there and got the BEST service, it took them literally 20 min to find out what was wrong with him & they only charged us half the amount for having him there for overnight and taking care of him! We tried to be reasonable and talk to the Vet but she didn’t even have the nerve to come out to the car and talk to us face to face just over the phone as she explained to us that they charged us the least amount they possibly could... meanwhile they didn’t even diagnose our dog and just sent him off to somewhere else. Very disappointed and don’t plan on ever bringing our animals back there. They deserve a 0 out of 10.

The most expensive vet I’ve ever been to. My dog had a simple ear infection. The first appointment was $200 and they wanted to keep seeing him regularly every two weeks. After taking him in for two more appointments for a quick 5 minute $150 check up I felt like there were better cheaper options out there.

I called them last minute on a Friday because my dog needed immediate attention. They told me to come right over and they didn’t charge anything extra for doing it. The vet was very gentle with my very nervous dog and she gave him lots of praise and treats for his good behaviour. She provided all of the options available for treatment and there was absolutely no pressure to do any of it. While I was there, I mentioned my dog’s allergies and she recommended I try a medication that helps with both food and contact allergies. We tried many things to treat it in the past and nothing worked. I’m very excited that my dog might finally have a life free of constant scratching and grateful that the vet suggested it.

This vet forgot to write down a chip number costing my friends family in not only vet bills and paperwork but also their dog as they will not rectify the situation that they created with a simple signature. This is a horrible practice with no care for people's animals or the effect they have on people's lives. One little girl will now have to rehome the dog she has had all her life due to their gross misconduct right before Christmas. Shame on you and your staff for your lack of care or empathy in correcting a wrong that you did. Also we know you are taking down bad reviews and will continue to post these everywhere online as well as spreading this information so people know just how bad of a veterinary practice you are.

This last visit was unbelievable how they did everything they could for Axew and his poor little ear. They were so calm that he didn't even need to be put under while they looked, pocked and prodded at his ear. So grateful for them and what they have done for us.
