Awesome "Colored" trail system. The Red, Yellow, Blue and Green are all great in their own ways. The roads are good too. This is a great workout for an hour or four.

Loon Lake always makes for a great spot for retreats and outdoor group adventures and team building events. Away from it all, in nature, where everyone can reconnect and get inspired!

Great place for a short or long hike

Shame there is not more intact old-growth in a research forest. The 400-year old stands they mention online are very small and also unmarked so may be overlooked by the general public. Most of the trails are FSRs and through young forest/cut blocks - not appealing. Views are also mostly obstructed. Bonus point for being relatively quiet though. Wish they had more information available on trail (would be nice if trees were labeled near the parking lot, if the old growth stand was marked, etc.) and provided better access to the lakes in the area.

I grew up here...this is one of the most magical forests I’ve ever been to...it’s lovely and healing. Good for all ages. Thank God for my life and the places I’ve seen with my heart. ♥️Carla

Great place for a walk/hike/etc. There are some nice trails to follow or you can venture out for a long walk along the forest roads to the various lakes. We got lucky recently a came across a black bear, couple of deer and a bobcat within a span of a week (coming here twice). It is a shame that it closes at 4PM though, means you can't really visit during the week if you work regular hours.

This recreation area is for hikers (no dogs or bikes). Nice parking area and colour coded trails so you can choose a short hike or something farther. I like the blue trail which loses some elevation on the west side but climbs back up with a spur to the Lookout which is about 300 metres elevation and gives a nice view westward. Complete the loop by winding down on the east side and merging with the yellow trail as you near completion. Wear long pants in spring/summer since trail is narrow in some places and your shins will get torn up if you wear shorts. Blue route is just over 8kms.

Trails are well marked and maintained!

Nice staff, decent parking, good hikes overall. Not a lot of shade if you’re sticking to the roads though, so be mindful of the intense heat on sunny days.

Steph Sjostrom

The trails are well maintained with the exception of one section of the yellow trail. Bit of a drive to get to but it's always quiet.

Always a great experience! The stories, around holidays, make it a fun and interesting experience for the kids. Great place to introduce them to wild life and nature. The trails are well marked and maintained. Hike to the Loon Lake is a must!

Absolutely love this forest

Amazing place for a quick hike or day trip. I love the Educational billboards along the pathways and the trails are well marked and well kept. I would bring bear spray as you are quite high up the mountain in their home. Parking is accessible through the first gate but could fill up quickly on a busy day as there is only room for about 10 cars. Lots of picnic tables around too. Currently due to COVID the forest closes at 4pm and the office and washrooms are not accessible.

Ehssan Gheirati

One of my favorite hiking trails, which has different levels of difficulty, from easy to intermediate. Each marked with it's own color guide.

Beautiful trails - three different options, different lengths. No dogs allowed as it's a research forest. Very quiet. Watch out for bears and wildlife. Filled with moss, ferns, and tall trees ????

Bit better trail markers and bit more bathrooms further up. But omg beautiful scenery. The walk thru the woods is incredible. A picnic along the way is a great idea too.

Many happy time here. So beautiful and almost secret. We could park and then hike in and 10 minutes we were at so beautiful waterfalls. I loved it.

Great. Did not seem very busy when I hiked the Blue Trail. Short of needing a little improvement for marking out trails, it was a nice, quiet 2 hour hike

Trails are well marked with coloured markers. Watch out for logging trucks as the trail may cross the road. Very beautiful untouched forest experience!

Hiked the Blue Trail by myself today. It was a great workout, but be sure to print out a map or get one from the visitor centre before you begin your expedition. If you get lost (like me) you'll thank yourself later. Overall, a great place to connect with nature.

Well marked trails. Some beautiful conifer forests with big growth timbers and some areas that are only deciduous and less interesting. Parking at the Silver Valley Road entrance.
