REVIEWS OF Capilano University IN North Vancouver

Beautiful campus and amazing teachers. Highly recommend.

Trevor Defehr

Incredibly disorganized school. I don't know why it recieves so much praise. I enrolled in a program, was told by their staff while registering that my scholarships would be fine for the program I wanted. Of course as soon as I was fully enrolled they changed their tune and I was stuck with the full bill and they refused my scholarships. I had to pay out of pocket which I was repeatedly promised would not be the case because I was very clear that I could not afford the program out of pocket. I was flat out lied to about this by multiple staff members throughout the registration process. On top of that, the teachers would randomly not show up to class and did not notify their students. Horrible experience, would never go back.

Sarah Emily

Teachers are well educated and and extremely helpful. The campus is beautiful and has many resources and shops for food and drinks. I love it and would highly recommend it to other students looking to pursue the arts or sciences. My only complaint would be that the tuition rate to attend is extremely high. It's almost impossible to attend this school without relying on a student loan.

Josi Soler

The building is beautiful and surrounded by nature, difficult to access though. For international students the fees are highly expensive and I do not think that is worthy comparing to the education and class that they offer. In my case, as my English was not so good at the time, NABU and Capilano University were a pathway to stay longer in Canada, however I do not recommend if your plans are to receive outstanding education and upgrade your resume. In my opinion, the courses should be better designed, especially for international students who pay more.. and are supposed to be prepared for the competitive market.

Minhyeon Choi

Not enough food and place to study. The cafeteria and library close too early. We pay a lot of tuition, but I dont know how they spend it. I don't think they spend it for students.

Jeremy Monks

I went there easy back when it was a college. Great place to learn, dedicated teachers and staff.

Outlook is awesome.....moreover it's look like a tree of knowledge.

I just wanted to thank Sarah Thornton (Academic Advisor) at Capilano for all of her help & patience when walking me through the process of selecting courses and transferring courses. She has been so kind and helpful every step of the way and has given great advice. Thanks Sarah!

I am a current student here and I just love love this campus! The campus has a very beautiful scenery and everyone is friendly. I find that my instructors are very helpful and are very caring, especially when it comes to their students learning the course material.

Ped Raam

I just cant say how much I am in love with this campus☺️

I have attended Capilano University since 2014 and have been in two programs: ABE and the BAA program. Through my studies, I have found my instructors to be incredible helpful and they have always gone the extra mile through one-on-one time during coaching hours and by helping me get involved outside the classroom. The small classes sizes offer opportunity for hands on learning and lots of group work. Yes a lot of people hate the idea of group work but it is so integral to being workplace ready in business. I have seen so many peers go from being extremely anxious and shy in groups in first year to being strong communicators by third year, if they hadn't had that opportunity they would have been struggle to communicate with a variety of diverse people upon entering the workforce. Part of what made my experience so amazing was getting involved on campus through clubs, PD, on campus employment, and doing a field school. People like to complain that there isn't enough campus life or ways to get involved but if you put in the effort there are endless opportunities. Like with any University you get out of it what you put in to it, if you are going to rush right out of class and not talk to anyone then yes you will find University quite anti-social. That being said if you stop by a club or career fair and look at how to get plugged in you will meet incredible people and learn so much more. As part of the business program I have had opportunities to travel, present to panels of industry professionals, compete against like minded students from across Canada, make life long friends, and expand my learning through relevant jobs and volunteering. Was doing a field school expensive? Yes, but it was something I saw as an invaluable experience and so I saved for it and would do it again in a heart beat. Is scheduling classes a challenge? Yes and No, if you meet with an academic advisor regularly through your program you will ensure that you know what to take and that you are on track; in addition, you have to recognize what you're priority is, for me it has been school and so I have shuffled my work slightly over the years to be able to take the course load and offering I wanted. Is the course load heavy? Well there is no straight answer to this as every course is different and every area of study and every students capacity is different. The fact is University is hard, if it wasn't challenging to get a degree there wouldn't be much value in it. That being said it's about recognizing that you're an adult and you're in charge of your academic career, if five courses is too much for you then there's nothing wrong with that but be honest with yourself and cut back. The perk of being in smaller classes is that if you're struggling go see your instructor during their office hours and they will take the time to help you through it. All in all Capilano is an amazing school with instructors and staff that go above and beyond to help you succeed. It has grown so much in the mast few years and continues to implement new programs based on the feedback of students. I highly recommend Capilano to all my friends and have seen many peers graduate and find rewarding positions right out of school.

Very irresponsible, if I could give 0 star I would give it. The instructors are great though

Angela Chen

a bit expensive for international students but other than that cool place and interesting programs.

Michael Xie

local community school cares nothing but making money. take many international students from China. made lots of money out of them. Really has nothing to learn over there. if you want go to a real school, go to BCIT. find a job much fast and high pay.

Pragya Sharma

Would never recommend anyone to apply here as they only charge the application fees and never ever revert back or provide offer letter even if you meet all the eligibility criteria that too before their prescribed deadlines. This university is totally a waste of valuable time and money.

Lyle Isbister

Parking sucks, but the campus is beautiful.

Daniel Villaverde

CapU's campus is just gorgeous, surrounded by nature. I enjoyed my 1.5 years here, although a couple of classes felt a bit like wasted time (I guess all programs have those). Some other courses were just impressive, though.

Yana Zu

If you asked me two years ago, I would give CapU 4 stars, but now I see that there is one important factor to consider: They actually WORK HARD to improve their education and services. For instance, they opened a student residence this year, which is a huge step; cafeteria now has a bigger and healthier selection of food; CSU has a bunch of events running all year round (most of which I was too busy to attend, but heard they are pretty great); overall, campus is cleaner than in the previous years. As for education, enrolling in Cap was one of the best things that happened to me in Canada; I studied animation and honestly couldn't have wished for a better school. I am not sure what other programs are like, but in the 3D department we were provided with a personal computer and a Cintiq; each class had an Oculus Rift and a 3D printer. Bosa campus also has a theatre which you can book in advance. Instructors are AMAZING and will go an extra mile just to help you. Also, Bosa campus open late and I hope they never change that. There are just so so many good things about CapU that won't fit in one Google review. I am sure that the school will continue to improve and expand in the next few years and wish them all the best.

Tim Ryce

Good local college. Nice atmosphere.

Diego Ruiz

Amazing College in North Vancouver. Natural place where you have a lot of university programs

Carlo Clores

Profesional yet caring professors! You do your part, they do theirs.

Daniel Dubois

I hope this doesn't come across as overly cliche but CapU changed my life. This is a truly special community of students, staff and professors. CapU is a great sized school which makes connecting with your professors and classmates easy. The community feel of CapU make an ideal fit for anyone wanting to be apart of something bigger than themselves. I studied business administration and the program fast tracked my growth both professionally and personally. Highly recommend!

Eduardo Nascimento

not satisfied at all. I would recommend other college if you care about your work life balance and future career in Canada.

Like a park so beautiful

I been going to Capilano University for 2.5 years now. I give this university 3 starts. Don't get me wrong, I love studying at Capilano University, the Campus is amazing, people there are great. BUT, they really are not helpful at all. Its impossible to get a hold of the Registers Office or the CIE. If you encounter any trouble with registration, or paperwork or anything, just be ready to figure it out yourself because they don't even pick up the phone, and when they do they just say that they can't help and send you to another department. It's so annoying that as an international student we pay 10.000 dollars a semester, and can't even get help or access all the services.

Capilano University is filled with great teachers, who are dedicated and passionate. The atmosphere here is great.

Bryan Cutler

Great profs. Cool campus. Interesting programs

Derek Lucas

Went there to vote. Modern building well laid out.

Azita Obregon

Awesome university. Small campus which I like. Great profs that care a lot about their students, friendly staff everywhere you go. Love the cafeteria food. Nice campus and I never have trouble finding parking.

Brazen Steel

This review is toward the Cap U residence at 2420 Dollarton Hwy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. Cafeteria food is disgusting and not available when needed. No facilties to refrigerate/prepare food for students when caferteria is closed! No furniture or appliances in student 'lounge' area! No not water for washing or heat most of the time. Filthy washrooms, infested with insects! A money grab!!!

As a student and a current employee, I love CapU. Located in one of the most beautiful places in the world, its a great place to study or work.

Mya Parmar

I am in grade 10 and I am looking around for a film program because I want to be a movie director, If anyone in this program can tell me about their experience would find it ever helpful, Thanks

placid gomes

The campus is very beautiful.

I love being a student and student employee at Capilano University. I was worried at first being in a secular university while having a faith and religious obligations but I have felt nothing but support and understanding from both staff and students. I am in the Bachelors of Business Administration Program with a concentration in accounting and I feel like I am learning the skills required to start my career in accounting. The more I study in the business program the more excited and passionate I get about business and the possibilities to do my part to make this world a better place. One of the best features about CapU is it is not perfect, but the staff, especially the President of the University gives students the chance to make the Capilano University experience 'second to none.' This has enabled me to both work and volunteer at the university to make CapU a better place for all, which is great because I am growing immensely in this role. I can only speak from my experience, but if you are interested in getting involved in your university and/or want to be in a business program I highly recommend Capilano University.

I will never go to this school ever again. I'm going for my final year to finish but I will never give them another cent. Had fees not processed in time every term. Programs were cut that i wanted to take in my last year in order to graduate. No Engl 100 online. Horribly overpriced food and terrible cafe hours in fir and Bosa. (Bosa cafe they close WAY before winter and reading break) Teacher strike cutting out a week from my final project where i wasn't able to use facilities without crossing a picket line. Internet service is a joke. and the cost to process any paperwork? way too much, Take your money somewhere else where you will be treated better and the teachers & School actually care about you

Manjit Singh

Can uh plz rply on the application letter as early as possible for may So that my time to wait for offer letter can be utilise for other work It's a request

AbdulRahman ALHOMOUDI

Just graduated and got my BBA. I'll really miss this place :(

Yuan Yuan

I am sometimes doubtful of the registrar front desk lady... but most staff are very helpful and sincere

Zlatan Jovanovic

Beautiful Campus, Great Instructors, they empower students to learn and further their academic success.

Anna Harmer

Most amazing atmosphere, wonderful teachers, and I just can't say enough good things about this school. Enrolled several years ago, but still kept my books and notes from old classes. I am still in touch with couple of my teachers.

Natalie Korz

A complete roll of the dice for your experience. For example, the Communications department teachers are mostly gems, who will do everything in their power to make sure that you receive the skills necessary to succeed while ensuring textbook costs remain super low (eg. less than $50 most of the time). Shout out to Sue Dritmanis, Michael Markwick, and Jane Ince. In contrast, I've had friends drop out because the accommodations are so incredibly poor for other programs such as the Artist & Entertainment Development program. Do a lot of scoping on RateMyProf and other review sites before you lock in your choice.

Herbert Xue

Center for international study is a joke. Reception is always very rude and condescending.

ashmir gordon

Would NOT recommend this facility to anyone. Everyone at the registrar's office is clueless and has no intentions on helping you. Don't waste your time here.

Tomasz Zaleski

Good scenery in the middle of nowhere. This institution is lacking organisation and good programs. Maybe, Cap is good for Arts and Business degrees, but not for technical and science programs. Some courses such as Calculus and Physics were well taught, whereas the whole science program did not seem to have a certain plan or what not. I wish they had more technical/technology hands-on programs. As for me, it was just a waste of time and money.

M Duplisea

would go to get educated there again 5/5

Serina Y

It’s a very new university, it transformed from college to university. Lots of programs here to choose.

Sanman Kulkarni

There are plenty of programs offered here and the environment is very positive...

A Z

Only for Paralegal Program - only moneygrabbers. Overpriced, no helpful practicum. Staff do not care about finding good fit for students and employers. Some staff are extreme bullys. Strongly avoid. Save monies.

Aakarshan Kundra

Worst university i have seen in my life... They r just fraud.. they chrge application fees frm the students nd didnt send the offer letter nt only in one intake bt also in other intake too

Simran Bhambra

I am so disappointed in the tuition payment process for this institution. They only accept payments from 3 financial institutions and over 6 credit unions. No credit cards, no cash payments. On top of that, the 3 banks they do accept payments from can only be interact debit cards. That means, if your card has the visa debit logo on it, the school will not accept the payment from this card. After speaking to all of the banks, it is extremely rare to not have a visa debit card, all cards automatically have this feature and it is only very old cards where the cardholder has opted out of the visa debit option that still have the interact only option. If I pay the fees as a payee to my student number it takes up to 3 business days to post, but if my payment is not posted by a certain time, I am automatically de-registered from my courses that currently have 46 people on the waitlist? Not impressed at all. Tuition is not cheap to begin, and to allow the payment process to add even more stress is not good at all.

Anthony Hsieh

Best school in BC! Highly Recommend every Canadian go to that school!

Robert Schroeter

It's in renovation not everything It's wonderful

K

Best 4 years of my life when taking my undergraduate studies here!

Prabh Sidhu

I applied for offer letter from last 3 months. Even got 7 band in ielts and good grades in 12th as well. Still waiting for offer letter. Tried to call several times. Nobody answers the call the left a voicemail too but never got a call back. Just a matter of earning money nothing else. Worst response ever????????

Stephanie Komala

The centre of international experience is always sucks! I bet most of the international students get worst experience there. I went there several times to ask advises, especially this time, I went there to ask about the letter for coop work permit because the school of performing arts office tell me that they changed the rule where CIE is the one who will provide me with the letter. I went to the CIE, and they said that the immigration advisor is not available until next week, so they can’t help me with this ONE question until next week! No call no email too! The staff also so rude, she didn’t try to hear me and keep cutting my explanation. I went back to the performing arts office, tell them what I got from CIE, and they provide me with the letter within several hours. Comparing how different the services of two offices within one university... it’s amaze me...

Yug Ladania

For the first glance i thought the university is good as i have applied for offer letter. But the thing is 45 days has been past and i am still waiting for the offer letter. Moreover, i have asked them at least 20 times about the status of application but they haven't reverted a single time. I would recommend not to waste your money on offer letter in this university, I would say third class management by the administration department of this university.

Analise Beatty

The programs are great but everything else is a joke. Cashier's office is extremely disorganized and has made a mistake in processing a reimbursement for a fee I shouldn't have been charged. They charged it to me a second time instead of putting a credit on my account. The program coordinators and the registrar's office is extremely disorganized as well. My program requires 18 credits in the second semester and then another week-long course at the end of april that you don're register for until March. That extra course is 2 credits and a requirement, but I was refused entry because apparently theres a rule that you can only have 19 credits in a semester. The registrar's office sent me to my program coordinator to get an override but she had no clue what she was doing and just sent my back to the registrar's office who then realized it was the academic advisor that could do an override. Every single thing that you have to do through this school in regards to paying fees and registering for classes is extremely frustrating.

Tejinder Kainth

very nice university and good facilities for the international students.
