REVIEWS OF Deer Lodge IN Lake Louise

The historical part ws a treat and the retro part that was cool. A patchwork of different devades. It needs a really good cleaning. The air vents were dusty and the style seemed tired. However, service and dining were excellent.

We celebrated our anniversary at Deer Lodge for the second year in a row. The hospitality is always warm and welcoming. Dinner in the Mt. Fairview Dining room is always fantastic, good food and extra touches and hospitality from Chad made the experience really special. The location and Lodge is perfect for a winter weekend escape.

The Lodge is old but in a very good location that is not too far away from the lake Louise. Check in process and experience is excellent. Only one bad experience was the Pillow smelling right after my husband lay down on the bed. He smells something and realizing the pillow is the problem. So we have to call them come and replace CLEAN pillows for us. The rest are clean and okay!

Amazing everything! Rooftop hot tub, view, service, food, ready to go back anytime!!

Great location and looks beautiful outside and in the common room areas but was disappointing. The fireplace room, hallways and dining area smells like a sewer. Strongly. I actually was unable to sit in the common room because of the smell. The rooms are tiny, just enough room for a bed and just outside the window is a stone wall, so no view whatsoever. The people at the front desk are very nice and helpful but the service staff in the dining room were inattentive and rarely came back to our table, so we had no drink refills during our meals. The food was decent, slightly tasteless and overpriced for the portion you receive but the presentation was good. This was our first stay, we will likely try another hotel on our next visit.

Quaint enjoyable place but, power in the area failed for a full evening and whole night and hotel had no backup, so no heating, hot water, light, hot dinner and morning coffee. Hotel still insists on charge!

Great hotel super close to Lake Louise and Moraine, and the restaurant has amazing food!

Price is high for what you get. Staff was very friendly and that was the only plus. The bedroom is small, has no table. Our bathroom smelled like urine and the floor was sticky. There is not ventilation in the bathroom. The food was ok but expensive as well. Finally the wifi is terrible and disconnects every 2 minutes. Save your money and go directly to lake louise...

The most flaky staff and front desk ever! During our stay, two issues bothered us a lot. 1. The shuttles to the ski resort are always late and too small. So guests have to be waiting in the cold for more than 20 mins after skiing all day and then probably can not be able to get in the car. 2. One day, my friend’s room was left open by the cleaning staff for the whole day. We were really shocked by how these could happen after paying more than $250 USD per night per room and tried to communicate these with the front desk and hotel manager. The response we got was “this is not our fault”, “we can’t control this”, “sorry we don’t have security camera”, “oh, all the people staying here are nice people, no one will go into your room even it’s opened by us : ), don’t worry too much honey. have a nice stay”.... No apologies, no resolutions and no guilty! We haven’t even talked about the crazy noise happened throughout day and night (which is also very shocking) I hope this review can be read by as many people as possible. Don’t come here!!!!

The location is great, and there are few places more beautiful than Lake Louise. While it's definitely very pricy for what you get, my biggest concern lies in the fact that we returned one evening to find that our door was unlocked. It seemed that the housekeeper may have thought that we were checking out that day, as she had also left a passive-aggressive note. When I reported to the front desk the fact that our personal items had been left in an unlocked room all day, I was just told "sorry," and that nothing could be done. This was shockingly poor customer service, and left a very bad taste.

We can only reiterate previous comments and appreciate the replies stating the lodge is to be renovated next year, however the following will not improve by renovating:- Coffee only available 7am to 11am! Cost of drinks, extortionate - over $18 for one and half drinks. One of our rooms smelt of burning which was resolved by the maintenance man covering the air vent to stop the smell coming from the boiler and filling the room with fumes (very reasuring). Bedrooms really dusty and smelling of mould. Nails protruding from the floor between the toilet and bedroom ( I actually cut my foot). No manager available to deal with complaints and staff not trained enough to assist. We left a contact number with reception with our comments - to date no reply and nothing received from email sent 3 days ago..... shocking. If your looking for advice DON'T BOOK look elsewhere, it's the worse place we've stayed in the 2 weeks we've been in canada and the most expensive by far!!! Oh and we're not ones to complain, this is the first time, but felt others should be aware before booking their holiday.

Grand old log hotel, great location. Food, drinks and waiting staff good. BUT, desperately in need of a complete refurbishment AND very poor standards of cleanliness. Moved from our original room as it was so dusty, dirty and dilapidated, the second room in the 'modern' wing was little better - dust everywhere, floors not vacuumed, toilet seat broken and urine stained, drifts of fluff in the uncarpeted parts of the corridors. No management on site that we could find and had to complain the the groups corporate HQ by email.

Booked this room after staying at the Fairmont since my friend couldn't book us another night there. We paid $300 for the night. We expected a cozy and charming room as advertised, while also understanding the historic significance of the property and that it may lack in modern touches. WELL!! I walked in and I was shocked. I don't think the $300 room I paid for ever made the cut on the Deer Lodge website. It was super dark and dingy. There was one outlet preoccupied by a lamp. No mini fridge, coffee maker or kettle. No bathroom counter space. A mirror behind the door that you cannot see yourself in. It literally had zero comforting qualities. No basic necessities. I feel completely scammed into paying that much for the room my friend and I stayed in. The common areas were cute and had rustic details. Our room completely lacked in that area. Zero personal touches. I do not recommend staying here. Oh and the light in our bathroom was two different tones of bulb??? Not a big deal, just again, zero attention to detail.

Staff went above an beyond to make our stay memorable. At dinner we forgot to mention a dairy allergy and the re-cooked the meal and brought an appetizer to tide my wife over until the food arrived. Ignore the negative reviews. Those people had unrealistic expectations.. Deer lodge will be a memorable stay.

While the rooms are indeed a bit outdated, they were more than adequate for our needs. Everything was clean and comfortable and the location cannot be beat. Being able to walk to Lake Louise without dealing with its parking lot is bonus enough to make up for the lack of amenities. And also, who cares if the rooms don't have a tv? The balconies have an incredible view and the sound of the river near by to entertain you. (However a fridge would have been nice. (though, to address the reviews stating there is no ice, they simply don't allow guests to access it themselves. If you ask or call they desk they'll have it sent to your room. I personally thought it was good forward thinking given the pandemic.)) Also, the food and service at the restaurant was wonderful. We had a late reservation and our server Louis insisted that we not feel rushed, and not to take our dessert to go (which we asked for so he could close up), and instead told us ghost stories and made us feel like friends he was happy to chat with rather than pesky guests over staying their visit. Overall it was a very pleasant stay, and I will definitely return!

The only positive thing I can say about this place is the great location. Other than that it looks like it wasn't updated since the 1960. Hallways dark... you get the feeling of a dungeon...awful worn carpet... with spots on it... We could not adjust the room temperature, it was constantly hot, we could not get a constant water temperature... you can get seriously burned...

Hannah Reeves-Hill

For the price, it is such a great hotel. It is an older building and can be on the noisier side if the hotel is busy. It has a small rooftop hot tub that is so nice to relax in after a day on the slopes.

Katherine Garceau Sobiech

Where to start lol!!!! The 3 flights of stairs to get to our room with luggage? the earplugs on the dresser that looked like it came over on the Mayflower? The smell? the broken window hinge or the filthy screen that also served as the only air flow because there is no A.C.? The shower that didn't drain? Maybe the super classy bottle opener/ wine opener attached to the bathroom door frame? The nail that I stepped on when we came back from dinner? No, the fact that you mention this to the front desk and they do nothing. That's it, the utter disregard for a guest's horrible experience. The restaurant and their staff we great. I recommend staying in a tent outside of a bear cave before staying here. Unfortunately there were no vacancies at any other hotels in the area

Super close to the lake. Place was clean. Loved the ice sculpture. Only negative is it had no mini fridge. It would be a super disappointment in the summer to not be able to chill a bottle of water.

The interior is very reminiscent of a hogwarts dorm. It's all wood and looks like a very aged hotel. However it's super cozy and very nice, and the best part was definitely the jacuzzi they have right outside. Most relaxing jacuzzi I've ever had.

HAUNTED! We were super tired after a long day. I slept thinking I Would have good night sleep. The bed shook like an earthquake in the middle of the night. I woke up screaming. It happened thrice after I slept.

We ate lunch at Deer View and will be back at any chance we’re in the area and will be sure to tell people to check it out. We commented to our waiter that in a place that is that beautiful they don’t normally need to serve good food…we were mind blown. Amazing food and views and top notch service. The server made us a specialty Jalapeño berry mojito that was so delicious. Thank you for an awesome experience!

Ray Gramlich

I enjoyed a quick drink while my family checked out lake Louise. Friendly service and an enjoyable patio.

Location is great, but the rooms feel small and out of date. It has charm, but somehow feels a bit old on the wrong ways too. (outlets are tough to come by)

Cutey Me

Rooms are all nice and clean, maybe a little old but goes with the feel of the hotel nicely. Also has a good location and the food is good for the price, considering how expensive it tends to be in lake Louise. Didn't have breakfast here as it seemed too expensive, instead bought food from the village shop.

Prime location in Lake Louise. I wish someone would level this place and reconstruct a nice, modern, basic, clean hotel. Nothing wrong with the people that work here. They are all great. It would be nice to have plug-ins in the room, temperature control, sealed units without gnats and spiders all over. A better set up to put ones luggage and belongings. Nice, but a bit too rustic and non-functional for me. Too hot. Dim lighting. Not enough lights. Non-stop heat and no way to control it. We did not eat in their restaurant as we had a vegetarian and there was hardly a selection. The place is pretty run-down and grungy. That’s why it’s cheap. I’d rather pay a little more for a more modern set up. Terrific location.

Pulled into Lake Louise, late Wednesday night. Looking for a place to sleep for the night. For 160.00 a night, the beds were VERY comfortable. It's an old building, yes. The room(221) was clean and charming, the view of the mountains in the morning was spectacular. If you want all the latest and greatest, one can drive up the road a little ways and pay upwards of 300.00 and beyond. Deer lodge great room for the money. I'd come again.

First I would like to say thanks to Patrick the manager there on duty during my booking and stay. Patrick , Thank you so much to make the booking much easier for us due to some issue with my third party booking. the stay is great please keep in mind this is a cabin like well the room we stay in is like that. although the bed is too soft and no ac. but we were ok. with that . I mean with in walking distance to Lake Louise and free parking on site with a special 30 % offer cant ask much. we were on a long road trip so we did not stroll around . but we got up early around 5 :30 to ck out and drove to take a look at Lake Louise and was so beautiful with the tranquillity and becuz it was before 7am so we dont need to pay the parkingthere which saved us 11.50. visitor parking for the lake is 11.50 for the day no hourly rate. the water pressure is great in the room but just watch out for someone not using the system at the same time so you wont get burnt from the hpt water the brand name toilettare great. the carpet in our room i beleive it is about 1 or 2 years new. whichis good n clean

Denys Pyshniuk

In my opinion it was a bit over-priced. The carpet in the halls was coming off the floor, some of the doors do not fully shut, the wifi is pretty slow. The hot tub is nice but the jets don't work well. The rooms don't have tv's. But the food was good. Overall the hotel looked like it was starting to fall apart.

old hotel but good customer service. clean and comfy

PJ

Excellent for its location, literally less than 5 min walking from Lake Louise waterfront. Unfortunately, the hotel inside isn't that nice, very old, not updated/renovated in years, no A/C, no fridge/coffee machine/kettle in room. The food is good though Very good! The ladies at the reception were very nice and helpful!

Lisa Wyman

The room was very adequate. The location is excellent. Our dining experience was amazing. All our meals were cooked to perfection. The cook was amazing. The best hamburger I ever eat and my husband's chicken he said was the best he ever had. Ten stars to the cook. We eat all our meals at this Resturant

John Turkish

Love their Cinnamon Bun, I feel it will be better when the Mascarpone is infused with some citric acid since it may be too fatty while combined with buttery brioche cinnamon bun. Love the praline-pecan sauce.

Anthony Leiper

Nice quiet atmosphere with good food!

Nick

Radiator could not be turned off or down. Room was very hot. Had to leave windows open all night. Radiator very noisy, gurgled and banged all night. Noise also from room above: thumping, bumping, tramping around. The hotel knows: they left earplugs in the room. No TV, no fridge, no microwave. Room not very clean.

Liz M

It was okay. The restaurant and server Christian was the best part. The food is really tasty and the patio is nice. The room, on the other hand, was dingey and outdated, however, I hear they are renovating so I will look forward to seeing the improvements in the future.

If you're looking to stay around the Lake Louise area without breaking the bank, this is your best bet. Quick access to Lake Louise (5 min walk), parking here as a guest will spare you the stress of the constant saturation of cars that come through the Lake Louise parking lot. You're also at a 15 min drive from Moraine lake and a few other hiking trailheads, as well as the village. This venue is noticeably well aged. If you are looking for a luxury stay, and absolutely require a TV and internet to enjoy your vacation, try your luck with the Chateau. The lodge has an old fashioned charm to it, which lends an almost "haunted" vibe in some wings. Units with a balcony are pretty weathered but otherwise clean and comfortable. Balconies do not offer a lot of space, and do not provide a lot of privacy from other guests. The dinner menu is fantastic, paired with a solid wine selection. One of the best dining experiences we've had on our weekend here. The service is also pretty spectacular; Lewis took great care of us that night. However...breakfast was a miss. The disconnect in staff service comes from the front. Although covid and necessary cuts to personnel may be needed in the hospitality industry at this time, it severely hampers the ability of the sole check in attendant to be pleasant, helpful, or efficient. This was truly my only concern from an otherwise great weekend here. This venue is somewhat covid safe (masks were not heavily enforced), parking is great for loading and unloading for guests as it is close to most access points to the building. Not very wheelchair or geriatric accessible; no signs of an elevator.

Brody Jensen

The staff was nice but the lodge is very old and not well kept. The internet barely worked and our "radiator" in our room did not work. We were given a space heater. Very overpriced for the conditions of the rooms and lack of amenities.

stan dupnowe

Arriving at the hotel we were greeted by exceptional staff. Indeed the duration of the stay as far as service was concerned was excellent. The dinning room and adjoining sitting area was very cozy and themed well given the location and history of the building. Accommodation was appalling at best. Small room with a lack of everything. The bathroom was also poor with no shower only a hand held unit over the bath. I would say that this room resembled a $60 per night motel room in a somewhat dubious area! certainly not worth the money. In addition, the windows were draughty, the bed was only a double (small), the ceiling resembled a repaired war zone and the other finishes were substandard. Apparently the hotel is being demolished in October 2019, it really should have been done October 2018!!!!!

The room was quite charming and we enjoyed the vintage feel of our room. Was a little disappointed that there was no kettle or similar in the room. Would have only improved our stay. We loved the roof top hot tub. Definitely the highlight of our stay. We ate one dinner in the dining room and it was the best meal we ate all week. I'm still taking about it with everyone I know.

Kay Bretreger

The place is dated and the old furniture was not a good old just run down and smelt. The halls smelt like urine. The room was plain the bathroom was nice, that bath perfect for me 5"2. The water would leak out so you have to leave the tap on. I wish there was a tv in the room. The hot tub was out of order the whole time I was there, very disappointed that was a highlight of the place when we booked it. The staff were lovely. The food ugh so good. Had dinner there twice, the lounge menu is reasonably affordable but the dinning was on the expensive side. The desserts are to die for. Wish they did have more options for dietary requirements.

james hill

Nice place to stay. 2 minutes to the lake. Hot tube on the roof) But little bit old)

simon nichols

Great food, great dining, love the rooms, the style, and the rooftop open-air hot tub! Also great access to Lake Louise and all of its great scenery and hiking trails.
