Very clean and well maintained campus. Excellent resources online to find your way around and helpful administrative staff to get yourself situated.
Good
ONLY 1 star is absolutely enough! Because when I was contacting with Okanagan College at the first time, some student advisors are extremely indifferent and even rude to me. So I might suppose that some of them do NEVER care what the applicants really want by wasting their plentiful precious time and money for granted. And they ALWAYS say:"U must listen to me first!" and cut off your words from time to time even if U are calling them on phone! This happens NOT JUST in Okanagan College BUT ALSO still in some other sub-institutions who work for government. So I really hope U guys pay HIGH attention to watch out for more and more similar hypocrites and institutions in order to protect yourself in your future life. DO NOT let them trick U anything! GOOD LUCK! 2018.06.05 (Tuesday)
The college is a joke. No parking, professors who don't care, and disruptive students that get away with everything. There is no sense of order, organization or logic anywhere. It is overcrowded, loud, and not a comfortable place to study. They let the highschool students take over the college as well on their lunch hour and after school which i find highly inappropriate.
Great business program, very knowledgeable instructors in the business program. All business program instructors have (I believe this is the correct number) 10 or more years of experience in the field. This means that your accounting professor has actually been an accountant for at least 10 years. There's no perpetual students turned professor in the business program. I cannot speak for the other programs. The student website is less than satisfactory, there is a tutorial for how to do almost everything on the website. Most years the website goes down for days, usually close to midterms or exams. Business advisor's are very helpful, the regular advisor's are lacking customer service skills (I'm being nice). Taking a class by distance is basically the same as not showing up to a class. You can pass just fine if you meticulously read the text book and teach yourself everything. I've done 6 distance courses: one prof didn't understand the fundamental point of the course, another was on the other side of the world and not able to respond to emails for days at a time, another prof seemed to have next to no computer skills, didn't even know how to use Word, and another assigned a group project for a distance class. I would very much recommend the business program, I can't speak for the other programs as I haven't been in any of the other programs. I would not recommend taking a class by distance unless you have the time to read the text book cover to cover and are comfortable teaching yourself.
This place offers a lot for such a small intake. All of the professors I had (Science Degree) were engaged and genuine in their pursuit to help students. I would certainly come back here! Also, the staff I dealt with went exceedingly far to help me get a transcript in a matter of hours to meet a deadline and they were SO helpful with everything. Overall, my experience here has been extremely positive and I would recommend this institution to anyone.
They've got some really good programs and even courses that are transferrable to the university
Lots of nice people and good food for a decent price at the cafeteria.
I am enrolled in the business program and I’m so far happy with how I’ve been treated by teachers, and everyone except customer service, I tried to call and speak to someone in the registration office probably over 20 times and most times they don’t put me through to them, and they are rude, they tell me I have to come in, but all I want is to ask a very simple question that would take no longer than 2 minutes to answer. They really need to either replace their customer service agents or train them to be better because this just leaves a horrible taste in my mouth and makes me want to switch to a different institution.
this college is sub standard and crude and actually has breached human rights to 1 specific person not named.. as it offers courses to enable people bettering themself and others to follow. the instructor for basic human anatomy and foundations for working towards personal trainer is an absolute monster. legitimately this lady..whom i hope was relieved of her position was a host to a non named individual experiencing having RCMP and other legal authorities called and attempted to 1.have the person arrested 2.have authorities force remove person 3.forced the class to be closed until person either was forced out or left..threatening by coersion that unless that person was removed they would cancel and terminate all following classes..and refuse to fasilitate it. reports to faculty brought little to no justice for the person whom went through this trauma..upper faculty stated they would only be willing to state that they would be "dealing with that fasilitator" and take steps to ensure it never happened again. the person has never seen any changes and has no justice. This is the poorest representation of 2018 for education and unity of people in diverse times and areas like kelowna..absolutely sickening place and any one whom values human rights should pay for education by other means..these sinister wolves in.sheeps clothing deserve to be disgracfully dismissed.
Great profs. Good facilities
Okanagan College offers a wide range of academic, vocational, trades, apprenticeship and continuing education programs and courses.
i went to their website applied for a course got in and the was just sent a link for my diploma? I didnt even attend a single class im so confused. Well anyways now im technically a carpenter and on my way to my first job. yuoppyoldooodle
some good programs, library is 10/10
Great learning environment, multi cultural and diverse , great course selection and school community vibe.
Okay courses, can have better instructors.
The business administration program is exceptional and stands out compared to other universities. The other reviews are not entirely wrong though, the college's organizational skills do lack, and it can be a bit of a hassle when dealing with finances or distance education. This doesn't take away from the fact that the actual learning environment is commendable, and that you can actually talk one on one with your professors.
it is fliptastic
I had exam at the college and it was very easy to locate the place , directions to exams were clear and staff was very humble .
I took the electronic engineer program here and I really enjoy my time here. Lots of the course material was out of date but you could still get the basics from it. BCIT offers a similar program but they specialize in one field were as we learnt a little bit of everything. The lab rooms were sufficient and had all the equipment we needed. As in any college, there are some really good profs and there were some bad ones. In addition, our program ran a month longer which meant we ended in May instead of April which sucks! FYI, you are able to bridge to the UBCO if you’re interested in pursuing a degree. Overall, I look back fondly on my experience here. I got a pretty good education and a amazing job out of it.
Took my mechanical engineering technologies diploma here. Great professors who will challenge you but also put the time aside to help you. We'd all be there from dawn til 10pm or later some days, but that's typical for engineering. I found the professors when I was at UBCO were far too busy to assist most of the time, due to much much larger classes. Overall a great experience at the OC. Lots of activities and events throughout the year and a really great campus. Can't wait to see the new trades wing expansion.
This school is not a nice place to be. The admissions department is by far the worst, being slow, rude, outright hostile and prone to losing transcripts. But everyone from admissions to the library to the grants department to the “Success center” has consistently messed up every step of the way. The only reason this is two stars at all is because my teachers so far have been halfway decent. Not good, but decent. My advice is to avoid this school if you possibly can, especially if you have disabilities.
All of the staff and instructors that I have dealt with at Okanagan College are very helpful and knowledgeable. Always seems to be a friendly atmosphere. I look forward to starting my degree in September.
Talked to an admissions advisor, had a terrible experience with her. I made a friendly phone call to ask what's happening with my application, because it hasn't been updated in awhile. She began to interrupt me, repeatedly told me there's a "process" for everything which I understand, but she made it as I was impatient. As a customer about to spend $5000 for a course this absolutely ridiculous customer service.
Worst place ever. BTW, do not let Robocup Jr. rent your place again. The refs suck, no offense.
Great experienced.
Stopped in to see what the Women in the Trades program offered . Great program for those Just entering the trades but was disappointed to find there is no content for those in the midst of their apprenticeship . But I hope that will come as more funding and government help becomes available for this vital program . The college itself is HUGE but well laid out and even as first time visitor I was able to navigate parking and the campus . Looking forward to attending 3rd year electrical in March
Kelowna campus bookstore is ALWAYS missing required texts for standard courses, and they never have orders placed for them. So be prepared to go searching for textbooks at bookstores all over Kelowna, or Order online if you can find the correct edition.
I don't understand why the customer service over the phone is so terrible. As an adult going back to school I feel so unwelcome at Okanagan College. The receptionists are impolite and seem like they don't have time to talk to you or help answer questions. There have been two different occasions where I have planned to go back to school for upgrades, and because of how poorly I've been treated, I have left the school frustrated and not gone back for upgrades. I am skeptical to try again in fear that I will be treated disrespectfully. Why would I want to learn from a facility that doesn't make me feel welcome? Please work on being courteous to those who have questions and are asking for advice. Your service greatly influences how people feel about their education, and in turn, themselves.
The best educational institution. Very trained, friendly staff and professors. They told me its the best business school in Canada but I didn't believe it until I started studying here. Lots of options for students with accounting specialty.
Anyone from Jan 2021 intake for Post bacuularate diploma in MARKETING and DATA ANALYTICS... Plz share ur experience and reviews regarding this course if possible for suggestion then most welcome.
Learn stuff good
I got to go there once it was very good
Some of the staff in the admissions area of the college are very rude and unprofessional. Especially considering there's SO many students who are applying to the college for the first time. They should be a lot more kind and helping towards newer students! Hopefully the rest of my college experience will be better than dealing with the admission staff.
Management is terrible I had to tell registration how to do there job. Very lazy, hard to find anyone who cares.
No parking. Don't waste your time because they're getting rid of more lots and parking is only available at 8 am then none until after 1 pm
Great place to study, full of amenities and a small coffee shop!
so..m soon coming to this college for doing post graduation in marketing..anyone frm the same couse,,do text me
Horrible communication. They do what ever they want regardless of how it effects students. They basicly say what you want to hear to shut you up, but do not follow through. Nothing but bad experiences 10 out of 10 do not recommend. Very pour plannin on course preparation.
This school is a complete joke. I've taken four of my courses by distance education and only one of the teachers was actually available to talk to when I needed to and didn't disappear after classes started and reappear after the final exam (Thank you Ronald Thompson for being an awesome DE teacher!). I complained about this to the dean and the Distance Education office multiple times and got no apology or anything for the poor service from the teachers. Now their new way of scheduling courses is a joke. In order to finish my diploma this year in the Fall and Winter semesters, I am forced to take 4 courses (2 labs) in the first semester and 6 (2 labs) in the second (one course had to be taken by distance education in the Fall semester, which I didn't want to do again due to my previous bad experiences with DE courses in my first year). I could of had five and five, but my one day would have been way too long to stand (I would have to leave my house at 9am for an 1hour30min course, have a 3 hour break, take a 3 hour class, have a one hour break, and then take another 3 hour class and not get home til after 10PM and I'd still have the DE course in the Fall semester). The scheduling for my second semester was perfect and I wasn't complaining much despite having 6 classes and 2 labs and now its been changed so I have another ridiculous 3 hour break and a long day again. What is wrong with their scheduling? This last scheduling change has become the tipping point for me. E-mails have been sent and they will be getting a personal visit as well, but I doubt this will change a thing. They apparently don't listen to the ones who are paying for their service. And don't get me started on Moodle....
needs better teachers for English programs
Grat place to study. Very cooperative and helpful staff.
The college uses moodle for everything, and it has been down twice this fall. It is difficult to do homework or study for exams when the Okanagan website is down (and not just a few hours, it was down a whole DAY). The only way to submit assignments is on moodle, and notes for classes are posted there. We had to wait for security to open the doors one morning because they rely on the network. Seriously thinking of going elsewhere. Current business student.
Terrible terrible customer service. Dont go to school here. Will spend all your time trying to track someone down
Nice college
the best place to be
If you're looking at classes, avoid Tazul Islam at all costs. That man is psychotic and will humiliate anyone who asks a question in his class. Worst professor I have ever seen in my entire life.
had a great year
Great facility, good equipment. However the methodology and organizational skills for applications and student aid loans are less then satisfactory.. This being said my experience dealing with the administrative office for refunding was a complete joke. DO NOT pay your full tuition until you have to, as they wont refund it when you really need it.
Fantastic college. Have had a fantastic time learning from the instructors in my professional chef apprenticeship
Beautiful solar arrays around campus.
If you're Upgrading, be prepared to be treated like absolute trash. I've been belittled and mocked in my classes, put through the wringer trying to sign up for courses, and had to deal with uncaring, unprofessional and degrading treatment my entire experience. Well done. Edit: After talking to the Public Relations person and multiple complaints, nothing has improved. Edit 2: It took 3 weeks to get signed up for one course. If you value your sanity, don't go to this school. Edit 3: Staff at the library have been checking materials out under my account without my express consent. Why did I expect this year would be better?
Admission staff are the worst! The admission staff should actually work on their English as there are always so many spelling and grammar mistakes! What a shame! Worst college in BC.
I took my legal assistant programs here years ago and other than the teacher the course was amazing. I am now in my second year distance Ed for my degree and I have found that the instructors are helpful and available. I always get a response within 24 hours unless it's a weekend (and usually even then). The lower cost of their programs versus larger schools is great as well.
If I could rate zero Stars I would. As a tradesperson, this campus is a joke. I've completed all my other electrical levels (1&2) in Penticton and will do level 4 there as well. Tuition is the same for both campuses yet you only get 3 1/2 days here opposed to 4 1/2 - 5. The instructors are late every morning, were supposed to have training until 430PM but leave at 315PM. Were paying the same amount of money for much less education. The "teachers" have unrealistic goals for our understanding. I get trying to have us truly understand the systems in place but at the same time a journeyman is at fault if he underestimates the apprentices understanding and the same approach needs to be followed here. I had the unfortunate circumstances of dislocating my knee during my course and handicapable parking spots are too few yet non existent on the trades side parking lot. Went to use the "medical benefits" that are included in our tuition fees yet we don't qualify because we're not technically full time student (need 12 weeks minimum). Our classes are separated into 2 and on 3 seperate instances the other class was granted information we were not pertaining to test material. The teachers disappear on a frequent basis especially in lab times not return for 40 minutes sometimes. It's particularly frustrating because their knowledge of is profound but access to his knowledge is minimal. We were blessed in the first 2 weeks to have Todd Leskie fill in. If I could guarantee he was my teacher I would return here. He is relatable, puts all material in a practical and relatable manner for everyone to understand. Believe it or not but he set up our classroom most mornings, not our designated teachers. As I write this, we have 1 day left before the final and are still preparing to learn new material with no final exam preparation. Be forewarned, this campus is seeking your wallet. Definitely not looking to help tradespersons.
I have a great chalet to do my test
This school is very cheaap
I will never attend or recommend this school to ANYONE again. All they're after is your money. They're not interested in helping you pursue a career whatsoever. I had to withdraw from my program for medical reasons and it has been hell to do so. They won't return my refund from the program I was only in for a month and even though my car has a valid parking pass that I purchased.. I'm being told it will be towed. It wasn't my choice to withdraw and I can't drive because of a bad concussion, all of this information they know, and they are still requiring that I move my vehicle somehow with no insurance and not being able to drive. I'm being treated as a criminal and as I did something wrong when all I did was get into a car accident and had to withdraw from my program. If you're interested in a trade DO NOT go here. They are only interested in ripping you off.
Worst college for international students !! They don’t respond and give false information!! Can’t Believe Canada has such bad colleges..
Poorly organized.
I work there and find it to be a great place for advanced education. Great campus. Great diversity of students from all over the world. Hoping students can return soon.
The college is not bad. I had some great profs and some not so great ones. What’s good is that there’s always seats available in the library, I never had trouble getting into the classes I needed and it’s easy to find your way around campus. However, I was disappointed with the quality of certain professors and found the office staff to be unhelpful, careless and rude almost all the time. There isn’t much support for students and the college really doesn’t have any clubs or activities going on throughout the year. They do have a few events but it’s not enough. Because of this, I found it almost impossible to make friends here. Overall it’s not a bad school but I feel that with the amount of money I spent here in just one year, it wasn’t worth it and I will probably enrol elsewhere.
I've taken tons of classes here, from trades to an associate degree to just for general interest. Recently, in COVID times, I'm back again, and I must say, the online platform (moodle) is really subpar compared to Canvas. Feels like navigating a course website 10 years ago! For anyone comparing OC to UBCO: For psych, absolutely take your first couple years at OC. MUCH smaller classes (were talking 30 vs 300), same quality -and in some cases exact same- profs and courses. Just make sure you are following the UBCO degree requirements from the get go. I've also heard (and it appears to be that way) that OC has a huger and better business program. However, class registration, college website navigation and availability of information (and their outdated online platform), are all things that count against the college. There's also limited course and subject offerings in many areas. It sometimes feels like you have to do an immense amount of work to just navigate your degree at the college. But right now, I'm mostly disappointed with the online class system. I love that the courses are functional and online, but I hate that things like contacting classmates, finding out your grades, and even submitting assignments (you have to hit a submit button on two different pages, and no surprise here, a lot of times people forget the second one) are just way too hard to do for this day and age. Be prepared to be frustrated with the online platform!!
It honestly Alll depends on the course you are taking. * & there's not a while variety of different offers of courses to take, either!????????????
Great professors and teachers, great classmates. However their parking system is a complete joke. They've turned their useless parking lot into a money printing machine. Designating over half of their roughly 1000 capacity lot to staff spots, and ticketing and setting boots on cars over tiny infractions.
Words can’t describe how incredibly amazing this college is. Teachers are amazing. Staff are friendly. Advisors are helpful(Fran). Registration office is very helpful and always there to help and hear(Charly Schneider). Thank you Okanagan College.
good courses, great teachers, small classes. Lovely.
