A mixed bag, to be perfectly frank, some pretty good tutors (I say tutors because I don't think any of mine had a phd, is this what we're paying £9,000 a year for now? But I digress... ), but some pretty useless ones as well. One of my lecturers used to come in to the lecture hall and sigh heavily, as if he wanted to be anywhere but in the Richmond building lecture hall, and that was when he showed up at all. And if classes/lectures are cancelled you shouldn't expect that someone else will fill in, or that you'll get an email, you'll be inconvenienced and you'll probably see a note on the door or on the whiteboard when you arrive. Portsmouth Uni. is expanding, almost exponentially, but I don't think the 'experience' provided to students is keeping pace. The library is always rammed. Don't expect to go to the pc lab last minute and print coursework, give yourself 3 or 4 hours leeway ;-) So, yeah, given the chance I would have gone elsewhere, but it isn't the worst uni in the world... that's about as 'positive' as I can be concerning Portsmouth Uni, sorry ;-)

Avoid the Accounting tutor Ian Piper at all cost for your own good. He was useless at helping students with dissertation and grades them very harshly based on attendance and likability, not on content and research. The university and campus however was an enjoyable experience.

They don't care about anything but getting the cash. Terrible staff, terrible support, terrible ideas and decisions and our complaints are never taken seriously. Don't even think about this university.

Don’t go for this university if you are an international student. It’s such a shame threatening those students that they will be excluded if the don’t met up with a ridicules payment plan. You will not learn as much as mental health stress you will gain in this “business education institution”. My nephew was always brilliant with education until he decided to do his Masters in England “uop” he had to go and work part-time during the pandemic to help paying and his grades are very bad. 4 starts because I have honestly had some of the best teachers. They were funny so it made those long lectures more fun. Majority of my professors had a PhD. I did have a run in with one that did not get along with anyone. Was generally dismissive of all his students but he is no longer there. I studied law with criminology and ofc had some ups and downs. As expected with any university. It is not the best university in the world but it certainly isn't the worst.

I really enjoyed my time at Portsmouth University. I studied Environmental Science and would defiantly recommend the course to anyone considering it. The facilities were excellent and during the course there was a lot of practical elements including a really amazing trip to Belize. All the staff provided me with the knowledge and support to help me achieve my degree which then enabled me to go on to work in my current role at the Field Studies Council.

Samantha Heffernan

Truly disturbing to see them revoke all your library resources after just 5 months of ending the course. After all, they seek to "educate", but right after cashing in. They always prove that they seek everything else before education, they are not student focused and will never be.

University doesn't care about the international students because of I got the university offer letter for jan intake 2020 .after then I have ready to pay my course fees but university says we don't accept any further application for this course we are close so why university provide offer Letter. That means this university deal with students future and career further more, they are only focusing money for how to get more and more profit. That's all

As a graduate of Portsmouth, I could not recommend the University enough to anyone looking to get the best possible education, not just in academia, but also in skills for life that I have used to build my career. The staff and lecturers are a foundation of knowledge and support that are available at any time that you need them. They will not hand everything to you ‘on a plate’ as there is the understanding that as a university student, it is often one’s responsibility to manage your work and ensure that one is working to the required level. With that in mind, if there are any issues, either regarding university work or an individual’s personal life there is always someone available to help you through. The professionalism and knowledge of the lecturers is supported by the excellent facilities and equipment available to the students. I firmly believe that without the support and level of education that I received at the University of Portsmouth I would not have been able to get a job straight after graduating and would not have the job that I currently have with a developing career supported by my studies.

Unhelpful, unfriendly and useless; the University of Portsmouth is a poxy stain on higher education. Its facilities are ugly, outdated and third rate, its staff uncaring simpletons who appear to put their own interests above the interests of the Uni's students at any given opportunity. I sincerely regret attending this University and feel embarrassed every time I see photos of myself wearing its colours on my graduation robes or on the rare occasion the cheap mug - the only token of gratitude the University bestowed us with after spending thousands of pounds on them - finds itself at the front of the cupboard, begging to be used. It won't be used. I would never wish to broadcast my poor decision making so overtly as by using that mug, displaying that University crest.

Quite a beautiful place to be, it does have a serene environment, beautiful library with quality books therein, quality of teachings and tutorial has and will always be excellent. Above all, friendly lecturers, steadily impacting knowledge to students.

I'm from Afghanistan which is suffering from war crisis due to which banks and other facilities are closed. I'm in my final year and have 6-7 months of studies left but instead of helping me and understanding my situtation the university has told me to leave and come back when I can make my payment. This is very disappointing as every university has facilities for students in such situations and these people are telling me to leave. I told them that as soon as the banks reopen I will pay them but they are to stubborn to listen.

Very nice place and university. Unfortunately its admission department loves rejecting good students because they consider exam boards’ false judgement about students a dogma. They don’t know that they lose money by rejecting students. Students mean money. Nobody in this world refuses money. People do everything for money even bad actions. This university, like all British universities, is a private institution. For this reason, it charges students £9,250 per year. The British Government gives loans to students because it is very generous. I cannot study at this university because I do not have the “requirements” (money to buy grades from exam boards). Exam boards sell grades because they are private commercial companies. The grades they award students are only based on money, not on merit. Private universities accept all students to make money although they do not meet the requirements. If I went to a private university in Europe, they would accept me in order to make money. Additionally, Science courses in British universities have many empty places every year. This is the reason why Clearing exists. Universities complain about empty places but, at the same time, they reject good students without a reason. Incredible. The most important thing to succeed at university are mental skills and knowledge, not money. Maybe I am not suitable to study in the UK because I am a studious person. Meanwhile, British Education is just a business. It is excellent for rich people without mental skills, not for poor people loving studying. I am a poor person having mental skills and knowledge to succeed at university. I can even study at Medical School although I did not buy 3 A's. Brain is required to succeed at university, not money. Education is not a business in other European countries because Sixth Form Colleges and Universities are Government funded institutions. This is the reason why European students are not charged £9,250 per year. PS: I can start from year 1, the Science Foundation year is unnecessary for me.

I just wanted to say that my time at the University of Portsmouth was amazing. Not only in my undergrad years, but also while I studied postgraduate. I studied in SEES, (School of Earth and Environmental Sciences) and not only was the education excellent, but the support as a mature (career change) student, amongst students half my age (who were all very cool) was also excellent. Loved it and very glad I went.

As a graduate of Portsmouth I can say that the level of commitment from everyone at the university is top notch. From the lowest levels all the way to the top and after graduation that commitment does not stop. Support is always available from staff on multiple platforms enabling everyone to get involved not matter how they learn and process information best. One of the few universities that truely grasps that learning doesn’t stop after graduation. It’s also a beautiful campus in a open setting with the beaches on the doorstep, the city around the corner and the sunshine a good 75% of the year. I highly recommend the SEES department for seeing what I needed as a student - I wasn’t made to do Biology and they recommended another course (Marine Environmental Sciences) and I’ve never looked back. I had the opportunity to travel, learn multiple skills, I learnt to scuba dive, I went to Belize and Malta and met some friends who have changed my life. Take advantage of the amazing opportunity to study here and advantage of all the doors that will be open to you, not just at university but afterwards too because you won’t get another chance to experience life like you do at Portsmouth. Thank you Portsmouth University and all the staff in the SEES department.

In May 2018 I visited Portsmouth and walked round most of the city visiting the Historic dockyard also. I parked in the Park and Ride car park and jumped on a bus into Portsmouth. The first stop being St. Johns Catholic Cathedral in Bishop Crispian Way, Portsmouth PO1 3HQ. Followed by the Victoria Park an oasis in the middle of a built up city, 3 Stanhope rd, Portsmouth PO1 3QL Portsmouth then next was the City Council buildings Civic Offices, Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth PO1 2AL. There are so many interesting places to see around this part of Portsmouth. The city's history can be traced back to Roman times. A significant naval port for centuries, Portsmouth has the world's oldest dry dock and was England's first line of defence during the French invasion in 1545. Special Palmerston Forts were built in 1859 in anticipation of another invasion from continental Europe. By the early-19th century, Portsmouth was the most heavily fortified city in the world, and was considered the world's greatest naval port at the height of the British Empire. The world's first mass production line was set up in the city, making it the most industrialised site in the world. During the Second World War, the city was a pivotal embarkation point for the D-Day landings and was bombed extensively in the Portsmouth Blitz, which resulted in the deaths of 930 people. In 1982, a large proportion of the task force dispatched to liberate the Falkland Islands deployed from the city's naval base. Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia left the city to oversee the transfer of Hong Kong in 1997, which marked for many the end of the empire. Portsmouth is one of the world's best known ports. HMNB Portsmouth is considered to be the home of the Royal Navy and is home to two-thirds of the UK's surface fleet. The city is home to some famous ships, including HMS Warrior, the Tudor Mary Rose and Horatio Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory ( he world's oldest naval ship still in commission ) The former HMS Vernon naval shore establishment has been redeveloped as a retail park known as Gunwharf Quays. Portsmouth is among the few British cities with two cathedrals: the Anglican Cathedral of St Thomas and the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St John the Evangelist. The waterfront and Portsmouth Harbour are dominated by the Spinnaker Tower, one of the United Kingdom's tallest structures at 560 feet ( 170 mtr ). Nearby Southsea is a seaside resort with a pier amusement park and medieval castle. Victoria Park was the first public park to be opened in Portsmouth. When the fortifications around Portsea were levelled, land was obtained by the Corporation from the War Office for a peoples park. Victoria Park was designed by Alexander McKenzie and was opened on 25th May, 1878. Situated just to the north of Portsmouth Guildhall, across the railway lines, is this beautiful Park. This park covers almost 15 acres and is planted with trees, shrubs and flowers. Victoria Park is flanked to the west by the towering glass clad ex Zurich Insurance building. To the south by the Guildhall and University buildings formerly the Municipal College. To the east, across Anglesea road are more University buildings and Naval establishments and finally to the north on Edinburgh Road is the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St John. Guildhall Walk has many beautiful old buildings such as The Isambard Kingdom Brunel pub, Brewhouse and Kitchen pub, New Theatre Royal, The Astoria Night club then onto the modern buildings of University of Portsmouth University House, Winston Churchill Ave, Portsmouth PO1 2UP. Hampshire, England.

It is, ive read some of the comments on here , old and new and i completely agree with everything thats been said. Ive often gotten into trouble for voicing some of my opinons - especially its something that new students dont like to hear as they, like me have had a misguided preconception of university- Especially as Portsmouth seems to be uncanny and persuasive in its open days. I expect most of you have by now put Portsmouth as your firm choice and think what you want of me i really dont care, and its not because im not sociable either because the social side was overall not bad even though im not a clubbing person i at least gave it a go. I had some high hopes for Portsmouth but i felt underwhelmed and disappointed by the whole experience , expensive halls - more so than some of my friends in other universities pay and my particular one had constant problems and at times we had to be put up in a local hotel as it wasnt fit to stay in , combined this with unlikable/uninteresting lecturers, which i found at times very bias and surely they should be impartial? Compared to some of my friends universities there were no trips abroad or any of that sort which was disappointing considering the university is seemingly ranked relatively well for a non Russell group university. I also feel that the university is operating beyond capacity, this is reflective of the city as well - especially as the city is relatively small which means the admin staff are overworked and uninterested in student issues and just interested in money which due to an admin mistake im paying out my own pocket - yes 9k. i used the 'wellbeing' service several times also and i felt that was as useful as a damp rag. Plus theres other issues such as i didnt feel the students were engaging enough and i was also bullied as well, but that isnt necessarily reflective of the university thats more luck of the draw who your with in your classes. The culture is very rough and ive known several people who have been attacked on nights out by locals (but i can understand why they dislike students, especially given the rapid expansion within the last 20 years). Another thing is their languages - i personally wish to live abroad in another country and have connections over there but it was extremely poorly advertised (Quite unlike all the freshers shenanigans which were pushed into my face constantly for the first month and a half) and i had to do some digging to be told that i asked a day late and nothing could be done - come back next year where it may or may not be part of your course and this was the 26th of September - before lessons had even started and several students started their courses after this date so why could they not amend the timetable for me? Bit disgraceful if you ask me. The university itself has no real identity or focus either, the lecturers seem to be their to better themselves not the students - its not an academic university or a sports focused or even an arts focused one its just a mish mash of courses where the university has clearly tried to put on as many as possible to maximise profits. As for my tutor he might as well of been lord lucan as i only ever saw him once despite his promises of meeting him at least 3 or 4 times in the year, i think it was a real missed opportunity here too. The town centre itself is rather pathetic too and actually extremely run down full of spice addicts asking for money constantly , even though they have places to live and clean brand new shoes that i could barely afford, Hmm. Plus ive heard a lot about the bouncers being heavy handed with students in the clubs, although personally i didn't have any problem with them and thought they did a fairly good job to be fair- Except one time where i was refused entry into wetherspoons despite not having a drop to drink. Despite it all there was much i had wished to achieve but it really came down to nothing, and im glad to say - i wont be coming back. PS. Did you know the chancellor is a 'strong independent black woman' ? she mentions that everywhere.

I graduated from Portsmouth University in 2007 with a degree in International Relations and Politics. The course was well structured, well delivered and the broad skills set was invaluable after graduation. Life at Portsmouth is also fun. It has strong sport society scene, some good pubs, incredible coastal scenery, parks, night-life and and its relatively inexpensive. As with all university experiences its all about getting involved. Enjoy!

Studied a BA degree through its collaborative partner. Perfect learning journey. Most commendable was the post-graduation support. After graduation 3 years later, 4 years ago, I needed a new copy of degree certificate due to the UK embassy in Vietnam unable to notarize laminated certificate. I got prompt support, helpful assistance and received the certificate safely in 2 weeks! Would definitely look forward to continuing studies and visiting this beautiful university someday :)

i undertook a under graduate course on BA (hons) Animation. i was happy with it as i always had the help and support i needed, i had a large amount of diverse projects that allowed me to explore every style of my craft, there was also a large emphasis on theoretical knowledge and employability. The addition of Employment preparation allowed us to make professional websites, business cards, Show reels and portfolios and even set up a company so we knew where to go and what to do after the 3 years. i didn't feel isolated on the course by members of staff who maybe taught an area i was weak in, i was always given the maximum amount of help needed to make sure my grades went from predicted 2.2 to high 2.1 or even 1st's in areas i was not confident with when i started the course in 2012. the only downside is there isn't always the most up to date software as the animation world is always adapting and changing, so we were only recently allowed to use Toon Boom, however were not given any lessons about it as we were all pretty professional with Adobe Flash by that time. extra curricula activities are a great way to learn more and meet more people, you get the impression you can shape your own learning, and we have a great Academic skills facility which helps with any written work or Software as well as being subject specific, so the academics your seeing for aid are certified in the subject your undertaking.

I had an amazing experience at UOP as an environmental student. Not only did the staff go out of their way to help me graduate oversees when I had family issues, David Franklin, Michelle Bloor, Sarah Reynolds, Mike Fowler and Michelle Hale were amazing amongst the other professors and masters students working there. They not only were completely hands on and helped me when I didn’t understand something they made it possible for me to graduate. Not sure what the issue is with the person that tried to slander their names but they clearly have no clue what they are talking about.

Good campus, everything within walking distance and nice location. Career services are generally good, they give you general advice on CVs, career hunting, etc. There were some weeks when we hardly had frequent timetabled lessons in our course (digital media), especially in second/third year. Also not really much hands on/real-world experience and a lot of report/essay (literature review) writing and book learning, all in which I wasn’t prepared enough to secure a graduate job afterwards ): Most of the teaching in lessons is fairly good, a few lessons in which they hardly cover anything useful which is not really worth tuition fees. The level of attendance/engagement there is sometimes low (especially during lessons and group work situations). Overall, it's a nice university campus and city. I also do remember that I got accepted to this university without having to go to interview or 1:1 and realised that, from my experience of being there, that it was the only case of filling up numbers (compared to when applying to University of Herefordshire, got interview and being rejected and I realised that Herefordshire was quite good).

As a SEES graduate, I can safely say I had a great time at UoP. I have met some incredible like minded people and lecturers. The all of lecturers had a vast amount of knowledge and experience. They were always happy to spend extra time with you provide extra examples or reading to help improve and guide your understanding. When you graduate here it is a real achievement, the modules aren't easy and are constructed in a way to help you develop and learn by challenging you. Toptip: (which they tell you when you get there) but save up, the final field trip is incredible, and you will be totally jealous when your the one that didn't get to go (like I was). I didn't have the easiest of times from a personal perspective while there but I was supported when I opened up, and I had help for my dyslexia from study support. I would have loved to undertaken a master's with SEES, but I had to come home and support my family which has ment that I haven't gone the direction I wanted but I would still absolutely recommend studying with School of Earth and Environmental Science, the lecturers taught me a lot, supported and inspired not only me but also all people I studied with. Thank you.

It was pointless to get through their DBA enrollment progress even if one has relevant MBA and sufficient experience. Interviewers will never be as enlightened as other more valued Universities. Even, genius Einstein would not be able to achieve any success within the hopeless enrollment process. This organisation has a long procedure to enrol and then applicants have to go through a DBA interview which all together, as it finally turned out, was waste of time. Luckily, I have just received a better offer and been accepted by a more competent University in London which ironically has much more reputation than University of Portsmouth.

I thought that University of Portsmouth was a good institution but my experience with them revealed exactly the opposite!

I have gained lots of support throughout my 3 years so far at the university with studying abroad, placements and accommodation. So good to be in a city but so close to the beach at the same time. Loved all the staff members I have met and all the opportunities that have been offered. Plus some amazing societies (I'm part of gymnastics and tramp).

I had a really fantastic experience at Portsmouth University. The teaching, facilities and prospects were second to none and I enjoyed my course immensely. The Lecturers were supportive, attentive and continue to support me as an ex student and I would recommend potential students to study here.

I am very sorry to say this university have treated international students very bad, push them to the limits. I have been with university of Portsmouth for the past three years and in my opinion it’s not worth for you as an international student you don’t get to learn.

As a foreigner military member stationed in the UK, my wife, Jennifer Dowling, took advantage of our time there and attended UOP. With my being deployed for the better part of our time there she sought guidance from her professors David Franklin, Michelle Bloor, Michelle Hale, Gary Fones, Mike Fowler and Sarah Reynolds to assist her in her quest for higher education. If not for these people it would not have been possible for her to be as successful as she was in achieving her goals and completing her degree. For this I am eternally grateful and would like to give them my highest praise. These professors represent the epitome of dedication to their students and again I am truly thankful.

I have a UK master's degree and doctorate in business but this university did not find me a proper fit for their interpreter programme whereas I speak two different languages fluently at a proficiency level including British English. They are very proud of themselves to let me know about this because I am a member of the European Union. It's obvious this organisation is not for those students who deserved to study. The Admissions Team is setting up more and more barriers on purpose.

The worst Uni, students who spent 3 years of their life studying optometry have lost 3 years because the university have lost their GOC license and it so happens they promised to apply against the decision but that turned out to be a lie!! These students are now in tears and have lost all hopes!!

I went there for an open day for sports science and some of the lectures seemed very bored and unenthusiastic, the head of department started the day off on a very positive note and was followed by another lovley memeber if staff ( I can’t remember her name but she was In the environmental chambers) from then on in went down hill. However I cannot say what the course would really be like but the university really wasn’t for me!

Really good library to work at, even during covid. Going to miss it a bit when I leave university.

Up to date! I like that! (Not stuffy.) Years ago, I was a big fan of its marine science department because of its focus on marine mycology. The UoP's marine science department was one of the very few places in the world who did, but after a few of those mycologists left, that specialization disappeared.

If you are an International student from Africa please do not go here. Their admissions team are nice until you make your deposit then they become very rude and rarely respond to your mails, if they do respond it will be in a derogatory manner. If you do call their phone lines they pick up and pretend they can not hear you while giggling at the background. They will make you wait endlessly to get your CAS. Pure racisit, if you are from Europe or America you will be treated fairly.
