This University corresponds to the category of College.
It has useless staffs, the board only wants to get money from international students without helping them to transfer to SFU
This is an amazing place, with a great community to make friends especially if you are an international student in a new country. Definitely requires effort and results will be seen when you transfer to SFU
Absolute Career Destroyer!
good college. learn a lot from it.
FIC is an amazing institute to learn and grow as an individual. I am currently in my 3rd semester at FIC and I did all my semesters online. It has been an amazing journey so far, I got the opportunity to build connections, make friends and moreover completely transform myself through the extra ordinary volunteering programs the college has got to offer. Volunteering at FIC is an amazing place to make friends and built a perfect resume and I highly encourage everyone to Volunteer. Academics is competitive and courses like math can be hard but if you put in your efforts you will surely benefit once you transfer to SFU. If any incoming students want to know my experience at FIC please do not hesitate to contact me on Instagram @alii.asgarr
Fraser International College really helped me a lot! Initially I felt bad when I came to Vancouver, because I did't know any people . FIC has friendly advisers to help me. Besides, I joined the Peer Education program which not even can be a volunteer experience, it can also be a opportunity to meet friends!
Negative ranking, put your dollars on fire but don't spend them here! The only one positive comment here, is from an advisor at FIC himself.
FIC is a nice college with very friendly staff.. They have several resources (CTP team, peer education, IT squad, etc) that help you throughout your time there.. The volunteering opportunities are great too!!
Gross
Study hard or you will lag behind. It was amazing opportunity to grow and get used with the Canadian culture. Have Full support for your study to wellbeing. They offer many self development workshop where you will learn and make friendship. Classes are smaller so the professor will give you extra care. But at the same time you need to study hard otherwise it will take couple of semester to get in to SFU.
The faculty here plays the best part in a student's journey. They are very supportive ❤️ And the facilities and opportunities it provides for students really help them to pave a way to their success ❤️ Moreover the ambiance and aura it creates for students at the college really makes want to study . Its a beautiful institution , i am lucky to be its part . If you are looking forward to join pls do it ASAP????
their sales pushed me to go for a school that i didnt need
Have spent 1 year studying in FIC. Harmonic and competing studying atmosphere encourage me to be a more self-discipline student. Nice & interesting profs there!
An awesome place to study! Professors here are great! I'm enjoying the experience so far!
Great instructors and advisors, overall excellent transition program to SFU, distinguished community that will support and push you to fulfill your academic goals.
The experience that I studied in FIC is a good memory for me, I met many good friends. It’s a good start for people who want to transfer to SFU or new international students. It helps you get familiar with the campus or Canada life. But the fee is heavy, and you cannot get sin # for part time work directly. if you don’t dream of SFU, there will be better choices for you.
Dont waste your money here, extremely racist & will give u wrong information. Please, for the love of god dont waste your money here!
I transferred to SFU Beedie from FIC successfully three years ago. As far as I see, FIC has tried its best to help international students adapt to the new environment and transfer to SFU. If you go to the lectures timely and follow the professors, I think it is very easy to transfer to SFU. If a student is always absent in the class, not doing his assignments and does not study at all, it is not FIC's fault for failing to send you to SFU (this type of students won't survive at SFU anyway).
Personally I won't consider this place as a school. It is just like a old building hiding in the woods. At night it is is even worse since everything is silent. Come and feel it You would be able to know
FIC is not actually as bad as people always talk about. The grading system is hard, but you do learn something. Professors are generally good, even though some of them don't seem to care the office hours. There are a certain number of activities going on. They also teach specific skills for international students to adjust their lives to the new environment. There are also things have to be improved including the management, they really have to treat students more friendly and offer useful advice if they are not able to help us.
Don’t come to this school….Worst experience in my past 10 years study life.
Just go to langara or douglas then go to SFU. FIC is a waste of time, energy and money
School ,not much to review
Did not expect it! I never expect to receive such an opportunity when I came to FIC. Not only the classes are smaller which helps me learn better. FIC provides countless opportunities that have helped me grow so much. FIC is also PACKED with people from all over the world which by default had pushed me to adapt to all different kinds of people and culture.
Kinda do illegal stuff to international students such as change their crouses after they already enrolled.
Fraser International College is truly an amazing place for students that are new to Canada. They helped me and many international students fit in, and learn about the Canadian culture. FIC made it easy for me to transfer to SFU Beedie by providing me with resources at every step of the way. I am glad that there are such programs to help international students to make their transition to a new lifestyle smooth!
As a SFU international student myself, I didn’t realize how helpful FIC can be until I went to SFU. Compared to a lot of the bigger universities, the people in FIC are A LOT more personable and understanding towards international students. I moved to Vancouver from Hong Kong three years ago and I am now a current SFU student. During my first year, I was always so nervous and uncomfortable speaking English in front of the locals. Compared to having around 200-300 students in SFU class, I think most classes in FIC only have around 30-40 students. And because of this, going to class is a lot LESS STRESSFUL and it’s great that other international students are all in the same boat. There’s no unnecessary pressure and everyone is generally very welcoming. The professors in FIC are also approved by SFU. I have a friend whose paper was failed because of its many grammatical mistakes. But understanding that my friend had just recently moved to Vancouver, the professor gave him another chance to rewrite the paper and offered an one-on-one tutorial for going over the paper and correcting them. That’s also why I think FIC is so helpful. The professors teach the same courses as SFU so they definitely have certain standards and quality, while remaining very approachable and understanding. Also, the marks in FIC are generally pretty attainable and if you put in the effort and go to the class on time, you’re almost guaranteed to pass. Not to mention a lot of the resources for SFU students are given to FIC students as well!! There’s a freaking swimming pool, all you can eat buffet, and fitness center. A lot of the residence facilities were being renewed in the last few years so it’s nice that FIC students literally get the SAME service as SFU students. A lot of people worries that they can’t either handle the workload or can’t catch up with the courses once they are in SFU for the second year. But the courses in FIC and SFU are very similar. If you do feel stressed, it is really common to take fewer courses and ask for help from the advisors. Credits in FIC are also guaranteed to transfer to SFU so there’s no need to worry about graduating on time.
Provide a good stepping stone and foundation academically when transferring to SFU. Also provides many wonderful volunteer opportunities and resources to help the students to get new experiences and excel in studies.
Great college, very knowledgeable and helpful staff that aided my journey into SFU. It was a great experience.
A great college where you can make lots of new friends, exchange experience and become a demanded specialist. Also the insturctor are willing to help their students in studying. I really like this place!
Good experience in fic and I transfer to the SFU helps me a lot!
Worst place ever..was never as depressed as i feel at this place
I have been looking for a college for a year that suits me in terms of price, location and program, and I'm extremely happy with my choice
My elder started her first semester here in FIC and she says it very decision she made. She likes her teachers so far.
????????
(Translated) There are bears that scare me so hard, shit! (Original) 有熊 给我吓的够呛 妈的!
The open house with the SFU faculty reassured me of the guaranteed transfer on my offer letter
Total Scam.. they did not refund the money that left on my account for next semester. I left in my first semester bcz it's not up to my taste. But I had money for my second semester which I was thinking to go on.. But they never refund the money and very rude.. I wish I can take some legal actions against them..
Good place to study, professor is quite friendly, 1 year experience improve my critical thinking skills, make a lot of friends !!
The school has some good professors and staff who always go above and beyond to help students adjust and feel comfortable in a new environment. The size of the school makes it perfect for finding friends and exploring different cultures. Overall, i would recommend FIC for those who are willing to apply to SFU (being so close to SFU gives a real understanding what is it like to study there); and for those who don't mind smaller classes (instructors will give students more attention than in bigger schools)
What an amazing campus filled with so many kind and wonderful people. Surrounded by the beauty of the mountains it's a wonderful place to learn and grow. The student support is second to none. Any student who makes a reasonable effort will be very successful here.
It's a shortcut for transfering into FIC. Try harder.
FIC is an awesome college. It got only gave me academic knowledge but also provided counselling services, and academic advising to do better in studies. I would say it completely changed my life as now I understand the importance of study and most importantly I know how to study. I have transferred to SFU successfully with lots of memories and learnings, that I can use for the rest of my life. FIC made my transition to SFU so much easier, that I didn't need to go through any struggle in starting university life. I know how to study, I was accustomed to the routine change from high school. The 1 year of study was totally worth it.
(Translated) There is something in this place (Original) 这个地方有点东西
nice collage! it is a good way to transfer to SFU
With a warm welcome and immense support FIC will make you feel like you belong. The orientation and events leading up to classes take away any doubts and fear a student may have if starting education in a new country.
Absolutely the worst college ever, they do not care about the students one bit. Advising has absolutely no regard for students, they will harass you for mineal amounts of money but the moment you need any help they are unavailable. Even through the tragic COVID Pandemic they do not care at all and will force you to leave, along with that they will not respond to your emails for weeks at a time, but the moment they need money they will send 20 emails. The advising is horrible, most of them will never show up even if you book an appointment online and keep waiting for hours. They keep taking your money, but do not provide education as per the standard and neither do they give you any service. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST COLLEGE EVER!!!
I came to Canada about 9 years ago.. At that time i started my college education at FIC, then transfered to SFU and finally to my work life. FIC is truly a great choice to incorporate into the Canadian education system! All i can say is that FIC not only prepared me for my University education, but the friends that I made there are the ones that are still around until today. Thank you to all the FIC staff!
Good
Despite all of the cons, FIC is still the best chance for international students who want to get into SFU. Just look at those insane GPA required for new applications to SFU. Wealthy students are not the reason to criticize this college, they are common in every college or schools in Metro Van nowadays. Overall, the staff are helpful, profs are mostly easygoing and you could make friends from all over the world, besides you could earn 30 credits towards your undergraduation with lower cost compared with SFU. So, why not?
A great place where you could study and make friends from all around the world. Classes are smaller compared to those in normal universities, therefore, you can easily connect to your instructor to ask for additional help. The best thing in here is that even in the Covid situation, FIC offer perfect time for online study, even if you're not in Canada. Having an incredible time here.
Good place to study, nice staff
Best college and very friendly environment
It's a close knit community where everyone knows everyone. It promotes a holistic environment for education and the faculty helps you in your transition and journey to SFU.
wonderful college, beautiful environment,nice students
Good for those who want to go SFU..... If you are not those then don't waste your money.....
FIC really helps you integrate with the Canadian culture. When you leave it, you got yourself a family. It is first a community you can go back to and eases your transition to SFU but mind you, that doesn't mean you should not put in the work for it.
Best college in Vancouver. Better than SFU itself. ????
FIC was a great place for learning and personal connections. The diverse nature of the college made it a great experience to connect with people from all over the world which has in turn helped my personal development a lot.
Spent one of my most defining moments in this wonderful instituition. FIC helped me grow as a person and supported my ambitions.
Fraser International College is one of the best colleges in Vancouver. Most of FIC students could transfer to Simon Fraser University in a short time. Professors in FIC are very professional and warm-hearted. Student advisors are super helpful and thoughtful.
I consider FIC as a great place where I could gain precious knowledge and real life experience. Apart from great lectures in FIC, which are designed as SFU, I have a chance to know about other cultures since all of my friends come from all walks of life. Love the time being here!!
Despite all of the cons, FIC is still the best chance for international students who want to get into SFU. Besides, the staff are helpful, profs are mostly easygoing and you could make friends from all over the world.
Started my academic life here back in 2008. Great place to begin as an international students. Easy to transfer to SFU. Staff is really helpful. the culture is very supportive and collaborative. Found all my friends here!
Great educational institute. I loved my days in FIC. They have great programs that helps international students learn and critically think about their work. My favorite part of studying at FIC was defiantly all the volunteering programs that they offer. Learning and gaining interpersonal skill are key to university life.
Great college with loads of help.
This is my second semester at FIC and my major is Health Science(BSc). First of all, I would say that I'm in love with the atmosphere of this college even if I'm on distance learning! Professors are high qualified and always there to help you if you have any problems with the course. Secondly, college cares about your mental health, thus providing frequent zoom sessions with advisors where you can ask any question and just talk if you want to. Professors are always prepared and they try their best to encourage you to study their subject. I had excellent biology and psychology professors that inspired me so much. I highly recommend you this college, but remember that you need to study hard in order to successfully transfer to SFU!
Good for international students to adapt to Canadian university study, especially SFU. The relatively incovenient location is a disadvantage.
Very very very very wicked folks , horrible organization. The advisoes are nice though. These people made my life hell, frustrated me, They kept advising me to take courses all over again...it's like they kept deliberately failing me to keep me there. So many folks left because of this too. The worst thing is that they are not even recognised; you can't transfer the credits to another university apart from SFU
NO MATTER HOW GOOD YOUR GRADES ARE AT YOUR HOME COUNTRY, NO MATTER WHAT YOU GOT FOR TOFEL, YOU MUST COME TO THIS PLACE, IN THE FRAMEWORK OF BETTER FITTING YOURSELF TO SFU!! In other words, you are not allowed to ENTER SFU if you are international student!! MONEY MONEY MONEY. Large group of criminals sit at the comfy office, what is inside their brain is HOW TO DITCH THERE WEALTHY NEWCOMERS!!! Pointless of attending, on the surface they claim to help you improve your language ability, but indeed it is absolutely BS!! Probably the biggest lie in the earth, and i have no clue why there are still numerous numerous WEALTHY STUDENTS rush this place!!
good education environment, nice professors there.
Really nice college with good facility. Just a little remote from the main campus.
Good choice to learn while having fun.
Fraser International College can help you more about university courses, and you can meet friendly professors, advisors and people here.
Spent a year in FIC - what a great experience. I like how they provide different kinds of social/academic events and leadership programs for international students to enhance personal skills and get to be more involved in this FIC community; their staff members are so supportive as well! As long as you are willing to step out of your comfort zone, you would definitely gain a lot n FIC! Some people said the grading method was hard. Well, it depends on the instructors and your personal ability. Most of the instructors here are encouraging and open-minded but I do admit that some instructors are racist and intolerant. Hope FIC can be more proactive on this matter.
Awesome level of enducation, very friendly and good student support team, always helps in any emergencies!!!
You get literally no student benefit from here. Once you're in, you would prefer getting out of there, a depressing and landlocked place
it is a very good college
Perfect place for international students to start their academic journey abroad
Good for international students who want to transfer to SFU. FIC helps you being more familiar with Canada's study and life background.
I'm happy to be a student once in FIC. It really helped me to get to know the culture and the canadian system, being an international student. Friendly, caring and hardworking staff is what I think is the best part that I like about FIC.
I like the atmosphere in fic, small class, good to know friends
Currently I am doing my 2nd semester at FIC and enjoying it so much! In love with the computing science program: instructors are very high qualified, they are excellent at teaching. I prefer visiting office hours, instructors are free to answer all the questions. Warning: you MUST study! And study a lot in order to succeed and transfer to SFU.
Worst college
Since the class is small, it is easier for me to ask questions to the lecturer especially during office hours which helps me to understand the content better. I also have a wonderful experience in FIC as the professors are great too.
A postsecondary institution that is student friendly and offers great support to students attending the college. I have learnt a lot and was appropriately prepared to face the step learning curve at SFU.
FIC gives me a valuable experience!!! It provides students with a supportive environment. And instructors are friendly and knowledgeable.
FIC is college a wonderful with highly qualified teachers. At the moment, I am studying for the 2nd semester and I get a huge amount of pleasure from the process of gaining knowledge. Teachers provide information in a clear form and help students learn all the material. To achieve heights, you have to put a lot of effort into training, but it's worth it.
Theifs
I genuinely don't know how they've got such a high rating: 1) Over priced. 2) They claim to be on sfu's campus, but in reality it's like a 15 min walk on a very hilly terrain (look it up on google maps). 3) the students studying here genuinely hate it (Nobody that actually studies here would give it a good rating) 4) If you can get into fic you can most likely get into sfu.
Great teachers. Very best!
Don’t take admission in this college please!!! I dont know where to start. But this is the worst college i have ever seen. My friends stped me to come here but i didn’t listend them. I will not write a big review bec on this college i dont want to waste my time. But to sum up don’t come here please dont burn your mom dad money. They will fail you in sibjects and you can’t do anything. The adviser will give you wrong advise. There is one subject math 100 they fail you they will force you to take that subject because they make money by failing you teachers of math department doesn’t know how to teach except one. You can see his name in rate my prof sight. But this is the worst college. I wasted 1.5 years on this and it was not worthit i will say don’t take admission this this f***k collage. Please. There is no an option of 0 star i will give this college in negitive Numbers. Please its for your benefits. And rating that are fake ratings.
Unlike what other comments, I do not think FIC is trying to fail students and gain profits by doing that. As a past student of FIC, my path to SFU was experienced as scheduled without failing any courses. There are lots of supportive programs to help students to achieve academic success such as academic advisors and workshops. It is strongly suggest that for students should choose the right path for them (ie. their major). If you are not passionate on what you are studying, it is hard to attain academic success. Thus, blaming for FIC failing students is quite unfair if you did not choose your right course in the first place.
Good if you're willing to put in the hard work and you're sure about going to SFU, because credits won't transfer anywhere else. The best part about it, is the guaranteed transfer to SFU once you meet the credits and gpa requirements. It's only for international students though, so I would recommend living on Campus to get the full Canadian experience. Just make sure to not get distracted and focus on working hard or else you might get stuck behind for more semesters (I've seen that happen to a bunch of students). The cool thing though, is that you have access to everything on the SFU campus, including the gyms and library. Enjoy the experience :) but make sure to study hard or else you will get stuck behind :(
Great and engaging community. Supportive staff. FIC has a diverse community that makes it easier for international students to feel at home. Made a lot of friends here. Structured classes with great instructors. Small class size is a benefit. Studying at FIC is a great start for studying in SFU. One thing to note is that the level of academic challenge is not the same as SFU. After studying in SFU I can say for sure that FIC has a more supportive community that will benefit you more as an international student than any academics.
FIC was amazing simply Amazing!!! One of the best decisions of my life period
(Translated) Gold will always shine! (Original) 是金子总会发光的!
It’s for a great experience, where I came to Canada for the first time, and FIC helped me a lot, made friends, and much more, the studying here is really great, the profs are really professional with there work and there teaching skills are effective as well, I definitely recommend this college to students
Helpful staff and supportive lecturers. Great place to study!
Such a useless college. They do not refund the leftover money in the students account. Be careful before admitting in this college. My advise is dont get admission there.
Best advisors that support you through your entire time in the college.
FIC is a good place to start as an international student. This college offers smaller classes, and professors spend more time attending to each student Individually. Also, FIC has several programs and courses and for those undecided on their education path and program, providing the opportunity to take electives from different faculties.
Had a great time here! Make sure to set your own goals and check-in with the student success advisors and professors regularly so you are on the right track towards a successful transfer.
WORD OF ADVICE APPLY DIRECTLY TO SFU ,I DIDNT REALIZE THIS UNTIL I GOT INTO SFU THAT I WASTED TIME HERE.APPLY TO SFU DIRECTLY FROM YOUR HOME COUNTRY DONT USE AGENCIES JUST DO IT .HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE OUT THERE FIC IS NOT THAT GREAT BUT ITS SOMEWHAT HELPFUL
Its a great college that offers pathway transfer programs to SFU which is a prestigious university. The class sizes are smaller which is beneficial in getting personal attention. Plus you get to make a lot of friends. Professors are highly knowledgeable and they teach the same curriculum as SFU. One of the key learnings was getting involved in extra curricular activities. They truly shape an individual. The workshops, info sessions are very useful and help in the transition at SFU.
Incredible teachers, and environment. It is a great experience, and a good way to get used to Canadian education
FIC's volunteer opportunities are truly helpful when it comes to building a resume, making connections or simply meeting new people. If you are currently a student there or are joining FIC soon I highly recommend that you volunteer! My favourite volunteer position is the Orientation Leadership program and I highly recommend joining this program!
I'm a former student of this college. Let me be honest, the advisers, administration, and the instructors are extremely nice, supportive, and friendly. They are the only reason why I didn't give this college 0 Star. Advantages of attending this college: 1. You can take university courses with 5 in IELTS so you don't have to spend so much time studying English to get 6.5 in IELTS ( please note other colleges have the same program u can take university course with 5 or 5.5 in IELTS. 2. You will only attend classes with people like you international students no Canadian or native English (some people are uncomfortable speaking up in front of native English ppl) 3. You can easily make friends unlike in sfu u will struggle to find anyone to talk to. @disadvantage 1. Limited course, and mostly not has alot of course. Here the problem come when you transfer to SFU limited elective credits to take other than what you need. 2. Too long to get to SFU! 3 semesters or 4 semesters and you gave to achieve CGPA of 3.0 or 2.7(depdends on your major) to transfer to SFU. If you didn't get the gpa then you have to stay longer at FIC take more courses. 3. hard to get good grades and sometimes marking isn't fair(the same for SFU) 4. FIC location in SFU but too far from cafe, restaurants, bus stops... Etc. It's in remote area of the campus between the trees. You have to walk uphill and downhill. So scary to walk at night as there are many animals at sfu. If you have a car then u r good to go. 5. Classes are long. 3 credits class is 4 hours class at fic (supposed to be 3 hours only in university/college stander) 6. Tuition price are high (can't give you number as i was here from 2011 to 2012) so prices might changed. 7. I ordered a transcript (student record and grades), this college price is 25$ per each transcript plus 2% fees if you will pay online + 5$ for regular mail per each transcript. While at SFU and other university you pay 10$ per transcript (including the regular mail price) so you don't have to pay anything more 10$!. Last words, FIC fun place to have friends and great teachers, but not fun place to study due to time, price,..etc *****myth***** I been told I can't transfer this college credits anywhere than SFU. But I was successfully able to transfer this college credits to a university in BC without any problem. You can even find FIC name in bc transfer guide website, so if you are in fic and want to transfer before you finish all the courses. YES you can transfer to other universities in BC (you maybe asked to take special English test). Another tip about SFU, it's really not the best place for international students, so my advice to you is if really really want SFU and feel like you must go to it because you love SFU then yeah ok attend FIC. If not, go else where. Thanks
good college
FIC is the best place to start if you're planning to enroll in SFU. The way the courses are taught is similar to that in SFU, but with less people. It serves as a good introduction especially if you're an international student. Some of the teachers are nice. In FIC, I only dislike the messy and kind-of smelly washroom. Other than that, the study and computer rooms are okay.
FIC made the biggest move of my life less overwhelming. The smaller class rooms, the engaging professors, the diversity and amiability of my classmates made the first year of my college journey smooth. Till today my closest friends are some of my FIC classmates. For these reasons I will always cherish the memories and friendships I built at FIC.
Best option if you want to waste one year of your life
From the time my application was launched to orientation the FIC team have been there for me and have been very welcoming. Their support has made my journey a lot more easier for me.
It’s a friendly and inclusive big family. I enjoyed to study here and it bring me a lot of wonderful experience. Welcome to FIC! ! !
The atmosphere here is just one of clean energy. The staff are simply amazing and super professional, you cant expect nothing but the best when it comes to dealing with anything FIC.
FIC was a really great place to study. I enjoyed my time there, made a lot of friends and got a lot of experience
FIC was a great experience for me! Everyone is very friendly and supportive. I met some of my best friends there and for that I will always grateful.
Good professors. Small size classes which help you interact with professors directly.
FIC is really good place for international student
As an international student, F.I.C helped me integrate into the Canadian educational system. The small classroom size and friendly professors made learning easy
I really like this college. The professors are friendly and always ready to help. I am studying for the UTP2 business program and it is quite interesting!
Good place to study , but definitely not the best option in vancouver , could be a regret , because credits cant be transferred anywhere but SFU
(Translated) The school is stricter than other colleges, and the teaching quality is relatively high, very good! (Original) 学校相对其他的college来说比较严格, 教学质量比较高,非常不错!
one of the worst place to study
good pathway to sfu
I had offers from multiple universities but I’m so glad that I chose to come to FIC! The quality of education is excellent and the instructors are very supportive. I was able to learn better because of the small classroom sizes and successfully transferred to SFU in 3 semesters. I am still in touch with some of the professors at FIC and they have been very helpful throughout my transfer journey to SFU.
Pround to be Ficer!
Low level of education, high prices and some professors are very biased.
FIC is the best choice for international students who want to get into SFU. SFU opens more access for FIC students with lower GPA than other colleges. It has a lot of nice stuffs who are really willing to help students. Most instructors are also working at SFU,so it provides a good chance to get used to studying in SFU.
Friendly atmosphere, great college for learning. The peer education system was an effective way to get extra help outside class/office hours.
FIC is a great pathway college to SFU. Most of the teachers are great and the classes are small (usually 30 students). It is a good choice if you have no idea about university life in order to be able to adapt easier
I know i will enjoy my stay st FIC
This college has a motivational learning atmosphere. They have welcoming staff who are helpful and supportive. I was here for registration and the staff and advisors were very helpful and cleared all my queries. Thank you FIC for the warm welcome and amazing tour of your facility.
Full of fake 5* reviews
Amazing professors, students and the perfect environment for your growth!
Under certain circumstance, I would recommend the 2 semester University Transfer Program (UTP) stage 1 as a faster alternative to 2 years of IB or A levels. However, I wouldn't recommend UTP stage 2, which is essentially the first year of university, unless you are a less competent English speaker. If you are a grade 12, A levels, or IB student who is fully literate in the English language, you are better off applying straight to your desired University. If your grades are inadequate, you are still better off attempting a transfer to your desired University, from a local, public, 2 year college, rather then FIC.
FIC was a great experience for me! The staff and instructors are extremely supportive and helpful. They provided me with the opportunity to earn a degree from one of Canada's best universities (Simon Fraser University). It also gave me the chance to meet most of my close friends and learn about different backgrounds. I have recommended FIC to several family members and will keep recommending to others as their programs are constantly improving.
Great quality of education offered. Smaller classes means professors have more attention to students. A very good start for international students. Various volunteering opportunities that brings meaningful connections.
FIC is the best choice for new international students who want to transfer to SFU in 1-2 years. The professors and advisors are friendly, and always available to assist students.
Lost 2 years of my life here learning useless electives that I got from incompetent advisors instead of subject that you really need. No reading weeks before midterms, your grade depends not on your knowledge but on your attendance, especially if subject doesn't have any finals. And what about finals - you will never know what you have done wrong on your finals, you recieve just grade and that's all. If you don't like an instructor for example you can't understand his/her foreign accent at all - your problem, you can't do anything with it because it's only one instructor on REQUIRED subject. You are supposed to submit your assignments before deadline. Even if it's one second after - you are late, noone will accept your work, but profs are allowed to check your assignments for weeks or even month. Overpriced. Very low quality of education programs relatively to price. You have 1 class in a week that last 4 hours. They said: "We give you 20% in class, other 80% you should done at home", so maybe I should pay you 20%? In fact you can just go to piratebay, download all calculus, history, geography, business etc books and in exactly same way learn everything even better by urself at home without these awful late trips after classes in dark woods to reach the closest FIC bus stop. I never was so depressed as here, it's the worst place to study. Of course there are some advantages like there are some really good instructors but with this amount of disadvantages you almost can't remember positive sides. You will never meet here any Canadian student. Never. Only International students. For 2 years of studying in Canada I never saw here at least one Canadian student or who belongs to First Nations due to Fraser International College. Thank you. FIC is probably the worst start of your new life abroad. Marking system is unfair. They want you to fail courses, to take them again. And the thing is your class is on half of these guys who failed this class last term. So this half of the class already knew the program, they will pass, but another half will fail and retake that class on the next term with new students. Especially if you remember curved system of marking on some subjects like math it makes this problem even worse. For example on math you can see a lot of questions which have different weight on quizzes or midterms, so if question have 8 marks, you will get 8 if everything is correct and every step is precisely described or 0 if you made a mistake or If you missed some steps in your calculations on paper and anyway wrote correct answer - you will get 0. They don't know about numbers that exist between 0 and 8, just 0 and 8. I remember how I tried hard on Hist and got crazy low mark, with attending all classes and submitting all works except the days which I covered by Sick note from doc. This subject was "GPA booster" however prof decided to unfairly decrease grades to make it fit to usual FIC "Retake class" system. At the end of the term when I tried to figure out what happened - teacher forgot to properly cover days that I missed by health reason, but just because nobody control grading system, nobody care how teacher grade you and is it fair. In fact instructor can just give you an F without reason and you can't proof that he is unfair. This is the worst place to study and the best place to work without any responsibilities.
If you want to study at SFU then the only guaranteed pathway is FIC
The classes are really small with around 30 students in each. It's easier to build relationships with peers and professors. It really helps to make education more fun and engaging.
This college is very interesting. The teachers and professors care about the students specially in this situation. They are well prepared. The college has a friendly atmosphere.
Best experience with a lot of guidance
Best college
I am currently in my final semester at FIC, and I think my overall experience has been very good. I spent the whole year just studying online, so I was worried that I might not make any friends while spending time here. However, there are some weekly events you can join to make more friends. I was able to make a few friends. As for the learning environment, most professors are very friendly. If you don't understand a certain topic, ask them during office hours. If you don't have time, just email them. But remember to follow their instructions carefully on the course outline. I think every professor/instructor expects us to read it, and I would say it only takes about 10 minutes :)
It is a good pathway to SFU
My favorite things when I was an FIC student are that the instructors genuinely care about you (not only your grades but also your overall well-being) and that the small classrooms support your learning environment in a way that it helps you to be more focused, and have easier interactions with other students and the instructor. There are many opportunities you can get involved with for useful experience such as being a peer educator, volunteering as a student orientation leader, participating in internal case competition (and make new friends!), and other seasonal volunteer positions they hire for. There are only a few things that I would want to change about FIC such as location (since it's very secluded) and food in cafeteria. Overall, FIC prepares you for your next journey ahead in SFU.
Until now I can see how the teachers genuinely care about the students, and are prepared with the best tools to help us learn in the best way. The virtual orientation was really funny and i think it was a really good way to start the year at FIC even though is online, but still looking forward to the orientation in the campus, and meeting everyone in person:)
Waste of time and money
Asking international students and professors, is it sure that we will get transferred into the university?, what if we don’t get transferred? Can we complete our bachelors in the college it self ? Please answer this, please
