I'd been driving through hours of fog when I saw Nugget City appear like a mirage on my right. Planning on just gassing up, grabbing a coffee, and making my way to Watson Lake to take a breather, I ended up staying at Nugget City for over an hour, chatting with the owner and her family. She took the time to draw me up a map to my ultimate destination, as well as giving me invaluable advice. But what made this stop truly memorable was how homey it felt. Warm fireplace, pleasant company, good food. Truly, an unexpected highlight of my trip. P.S. Adam and Kelsey, thanks for a great chat. Hope we meet again!

They overcharged our gas when we used them on the way up last summer. We decided to give them another chance on our way back down, big mistake. They did it again plus that morning I woke up and was sick (basically lost my voice) so my throat was unbelievably swollen/tight. We went in for coffee and I noticed they sold icecream. I asked for a scoop (to help soothe my throat) & for some reason the dude flipped from helpful to rude in a split second. He acted like I was an inconvenience for asking for ice cream in the morning. Then when I turned down my husband's offer to buy a doughnut the jackalope rudely muttered under his breath "at least there is some self control" Makes no sense because at that time I was 15lbs underweight and never indulged in sweets??

It is not open in the winter. They don't update their hours and outside of requesting that Google remove the place, there is no other option to add a more regarding this except by leaving a review. There is a gas about 20 minutes down the road (left turn at the T stop) if you head in the direction away from Whitehorse.

BEWARE OF NUGGET CITY… Exploitation of innocent travelers! My dog and I were making our way from AK to the US. As an avid traveler, I know how important gas/repairs can be on the remote Alcan highway. I pulled into Nugget City for gas when I realized I had an issue in my truck. I spoke with both owners, Scott and Linda Goodwin who informed me that a mechanic could look at the truck the following morning. I set up camp in my tent that night. After examination of the restaurant menu, I opted to eat a cold can of lentils and some juice instead of paying the outrageous prices for the mediocre food AND water. Day 2: Roger- the mechanic, finally got my truck in the shop after several hours of lounging around the compound. It took Rogers 2 whole days to diagnose my truck with little to no communication with me on the progress. Occasionally, I would poke my head into the disorganized shop to grab something out of my truck. I even offered to help him with the repairs if he thought it would knock down the price of the labor. Each time I enter the shop, I saw my truck torn apart and in shambles. He soon told me that I would not be able to enter the shop out of privacy for him. Day 3: I have no cell reception, little cash, no contact with the outside world, scraps for food and a broken vehicle. According to the Goodwins the "Canadian law" states that if a vehicle is diagnosed with A,B and C... you must fix those things before sending that person down the road. Mind you, this law is TOTALLY bogus. With no budget for an expensive break down, I offered to help around the Nugget City compound doing a variety of tasks in exchange for some charge to be taken off of my final bill. What else would I do in this wretched place to pass the time? I tried multiple times DAILY to clarify what my wage was going to be.. how I would keep track of my hours.. what my final bill was going to be? Scott and Linda were always conveniently too busy to answer these questions for me. I convinced the Goodwins that I could provide ample work for them and they gave me some duties; daily garbage removal, washing dishes, cleaning the cabins, watering flowers, sweeping the decks, filling wash buckets for the gas pumps, mopping/restocking the restaurant after closing time etc. Fast forward 3 more days and the parts to my truck still have no even been ORDERED yet! Why get rid of a good worker when you can essentially hold them hostage on their dime?? Yes, I was in the twilight zone people. The excuses were as followed; Canadian holiday and the part store isn’t open… wanting to combine orders so freight wouldn’t too expensive, inaccurate prices of parts and any other falseness they could think of. I argued with the mechanic about the unnecessary extra repairs and he replied with “ If you are going to keep making a fuss about this, you can limp your truck to a different shop.” I was stuck in Nugget City for 7 days, working and conversing with another couple who had also been stuck in an uncontrollable situation while awaiting a part for their off road bike. When it did arrive, it was the WRONG part. The sweet Argentine couple had spent 5 days there paying for a cabin.. eating food.. filling the bottomless pockets of the Goodwins out of not fault of their own. Thanks to Zack Horner for rescuing me with a small loan on day 8! After explaining to the owners that I would NOT be working for them any longer, the parts were flown in and my truck was fixed the next day. I was in no position to argue with these people. Being in such a remote area without cell reception, these people are at a COMPLETE advantage to a struggling traveler. Please, do not give them your business! From the outside, they are decent humans; trying to make a living in an unforgiving part of the country. The Goodwins impressed me with their professional ability to act heinous and malicious in order to make money while appearing to lend a helping hand to a traveler. Good luck everyone!

Charged my credit card 3 times for a total of almost $500 when I only pumped $56 worth of gas. I kept my receipt and I’m so glad. Disputing with my bank note but I would suggest you skip this station and get gas elsewhere.

Camped here because we had no other option late in the day. Tenting spots were covered in trash and unorganized, staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. Looking back, we would have continued driving to the next place and had a more pleasant time along the road. Bathrooms were relatively clean though, so that's a good point.

Avoid staying at the RV park if you can, especially if you're tenting. The tent site is just a bundle of trees and was the worst cost to comfort ratio we experienced the whole way to Alaska, plus we payed $20 for a plate of microwaves spaghetti.

Nice place to stop for diesel. It was an easy off and on with big rigs. The store was a full service restaurant and had homemade desserts. Lovely stop.

The baby nugget RV park looks like it used to be a fun place to stay but is now just kind of run down. They have Wi-Fi but it is only available certain times and only if you're right beside the office. It is very overpriced considering the other RV parks and campgrounds in the area.

Rude prick, pay a bit more and get your fuel from the guy on the corner. Went in for a bite to eat and he was angry we made him get up and stop watching his tv show, very snotty and unhelpful, won't be back.

Gas was way more expensive than in Watson lake 20 km away. So unless you are desperate drive on!

If I could give them less than "1", I would. These guys are horrible!!! One of their pumps leaks, they hold the "credit card funds" for 3 days (and still counting), blaming the credit card company (the one that has cleared every other hold in minutes, and are completely rude while doing it! They've locked up 200-300 of money while I'm traveling through to move.

Patrick Custer

pump 2/4 leaks and they charged me/my card $192.84 FRAUD - I have a 12 gallon tank and can barely put $45.00 in!

Three of us on motorcycles stayed here last August and tent camped. We found the staff checking us in to be friendly, the restaurant maybe a little less, but service and food was good. Showers were clean and the cost for all three to tent for the night was around $45 CD which was fair. Not sure why there is so many negative comments about the place. Wasn't our experience at all. You're in the Yukon people-lighten up.

When we arrived they told us they were open and ready for business. They claimed they had 50 amp hook up sites; there were two 50 amp sites and their camp workers were using both of them! The male manager didn't know how to work the cash register and got verbally mad at the female manager when she tried helping him. Their RV wash area wasn't working and the laundry room was locked and no one had the key, they charged us $10.00 (American) for a piece of pie with ice cream!!! The manager of the gift shop was so busy on her cell phone telling someone how to fill out their disability forms so they would be found 100% disabled she forgot we were in the store. And, they charged us $49.50 (American) for a 30 amp site for one night; if we weren't so exhausted we would have kept going down the road. They were charging 20 cents more a gallon for fuel than the other stations close by (we didn't get any there but checked their prices). We stayed one night and left when the sun came up - AVOID this place in your travels if you want to a good experience!

Stayed at the rv Park. First off the lady was rude when I walked in by completely ignoring me while she chatted it up with different people in the gift shop. She didn't acknowledge my presence even though I was staring at her until after every one left. She didn't offer any information after I paid I had to ask her, what about showers? What about wifi? She charged me $55 (after taxes) for an unlevel site without full hookups (only 30 amp and water). I didn't realize there were no hookups site didn't tell me I just assumed it was for that price. I couldn't believe how unlevel the site was, I had to use two boards on one side to level it. No trash recepticals either that I could see so expect to pack out your trash too. You have to pay for showers and there isn't any wifi either. What a joke. Go camp anywhere but here.

The Nugget city gas pump will hold a $190 authorization charge that’s pending on your credit or debit for several business days. The price of fuel that paid for will show in your account once the charge is actually posted. Talked to Nugget City over the phone and they get asked about this several times a day. It’s the charging agency that is doing this crazy high authorization pending transaction.

Ian Baldwin

Pricy gas, but it's a stop. They'll run your card a pricy amount and then remedy it later, so be wary if you're travelling, and doubly so watch your accounts.
