Hosted a corporate event for my team of 30 staff and it was fantastic! These rooms are amazing and the environment was perfect for team building. From figuring out a menu to everything on the actual day Benito took great care of us. We had a ton of fun and will be back!

Staff is fantastic Rooms are fantastic Puzzles are tough and take a lot of thought to figure out. Time sensitive adds an element of stress that make the experience better. The sense of accomplishment is amazing when you figure out a puzzle. Price was decent, worth it for the experience. --EXTRA-- Upon entry, the atmosphere was friendly, welcoming, and just a little ominous. My friend and I were greeted by an absolutely wonderful employee (didn't catch her name, glassds, brown hair) who directed us down to basically get set up with the rooms. The second employee (Montana), gave us the rundown and we got started in the doll room (ROOM IS DARK AF, ONLY ROOM LIKE IT) with a back story and a few pointers before starting, we were sent into a dark room with a couple props. The room was very very well constructed. Nothing in the room was out of place, and it really helped to get you into the environment. Like, the hints were hidden in the coolest places, I strongly recommend this room! With a friendly encounter with another employee (Harvey - we know about you now Harvey, were keeping an eye on you ????) we struggles our way through the puzzles. Sadly, my friend and I were unable to complete the room in time, but they allowed us a few extra minutes to try and complete the room (thank you!) Lastly, a tip for anyone that's come this far. Everything... I mean everything has importance unless they tell you it doesn't. Keep that in mind.

Visited here twice in under a week! Did the Speakeasy with 4 people and Doll Island with 2. Speakeasy was tricky for us! Doll Island was INCREDIBLE and everything I hoped for; great puzzles, scary as hell but it got the adrenaline going! The staff is awesome and super friendly! Definitely recommending :)

Staff was friendly, the place was super clean. We went to the Doll Island room where its pitch black and you only have camcorders to use. It was fun but can be somewhat disorienting and would not suggest it to beginners. However, the escape room itself was super fun and we were given some extra time because there was no one after us! Great time overall.

This place was cool. I didn't even know it existed to be honest. Staff was great. We had a blast. It took four of us to escape the room, at the very last minute I will add. Well though out. Watch out,,, time goes by really fast. They give you a stop watch so you know how much time you have. We actually shut ours off so we wouldn't consentrat on the time. It worked for us. That's the only tip I will give you. I will definitely be back .

Really great experience at Durham Escape Rooms! Dropped in on a holiday Monday without a reservation and were lucky enough to find two open rooms! The staff helped us choose which of the 2 rooms to try since it was our first time doing an escape room and we were only 2 people. Decided to try "Lucy's Resting Place" it was very well done! The detail was creative and the puzzles/riddles were challenging but not unmanageable. We used the 2 hints and got out with a couple minutes to spare. Lots of fun, will definitely be coming back to try another.

Me and my group had such a fun time! I was sceptical about going here (not cause of the location but the whole idea about escape rooms) but it turned out better than I expected! It’s like going on a scary rollercoaster than wanting to go back and do it again because it was so fun! We did the Doll Island room where you are locked in a pitch black room with just two night vision camcorders. It was a medium difficulty and we didn’t finish in time. But we had such a blast doing it! The staff was amazing as well! Really friendly! Hope to go back here soon!

We had a group of 6; four of which were first timers. The first room we tried, we almost made it - but not quite! After that attempt we were determined to succeed so stayed for 2 more rooms - with success! It was so well thought out and set up. The staff were great - friendly and energetic! They really delivered the storylines well and got you into the problem solving spirit! It was great bonding for our group, who had some individuals who had just met that night, and yet we all worked together and played a part in solving each puzzle! We will definitely be returning!

My friends and I have done many escape rooms throughout the GTA and Durham and this is definitely a good one. The staff are friendly and the room seemed to be well thought out. We did the Doll Island, I was looking for a room to do for my birthday that was a bit creepy and this definitely did it's job. I was on edge the entire time! The puzzle itself was fabulous, not too easy and not to hard. The room energy and decor was amazing! I only have two suggestions for DER, 1) do NOT go to the rooms to give clues. This completely ruins the ambience and mood of the room. We should be able to communicate via walkie talkie as this provides better and more efficient game play. Give the player the walkie talkie before entering the room. Our room started late because there a bit of a turn over on the rooms and they did give us the proper amount of time time but it was really cutting it close. 2) ensure the music is working! This was essential to the puzzle and we weren't even aware there was supposed to be music and we had to use a clue because we needed the music. In other escape rooms they tell the players to wait for the music to start and then start the clock when the music starts playing and that way if we don't hear it we can notify someone. All in all, a great puzzle room though and I truly believed there was a presence in there... Durham escape rooms might even be haunted because I felt a male presence in the room and was throughly creeped out. Highly suggest doing Doll Island and will be going back for a second one. Well thought out and designed, with few issues. We went with 2 other couples, and had a good time. Biggest challenge was a gimmicky lock that took 3 of us using the same code to get undone. Also one of the puzzle solving features in our room was only possible on 1/4 of what it was supposed to. Even by the staff. All in all, it was a good time and experience, with some room for improvement.

I feel bad giving this place only 2 stars because the staff are so awesome. But... We did the "easy" room. Cool story line and plot but clue sequence was way too convoluted and vague. Hone the clue sequences to a be a bit tighter and the place would be a lot better IMO.

What a great place! The room was elaborate and the puzzles were varied and challenging. I've never done an Escape Room before but this was a surprising adrenaline rush as we raced against the clock. We managed to escape with 1 minute and 25 seconds to spare! I would definitely recommend this place and I want to go back and try another room.

I wish I could give 6 stars ???? Went yesterday for my daughter's 11th birthday and she and her friends (myself and her dad included) had a blast! The concept is great, the facilities are spacious and extremely clean. The staff is the best! Our host - Cupid - was very accommodating and took care of our party to the T. Love this place! We have spent a bit of time the last three weekends tackling each room amd have had a blast every single time! Durham Escape Rooms is simply fantastic! While we're so glad to have tried every room, we're also super sad that we'll have to wait for the next new one! The owners and staff really care about their customers and their rooms and we've loved getting to know everyone. We will be keeping an eye out for pop-ups and new rooms! For people who can't finish the room, there should be a discounted rate to come back and complete it. Not sure if we'll go back just based on the price.

Durham Escape Rooms provided a good experience for myself and as well as the entire group that I went with. The place exceeded our expectations and we are very happy that we chose to go here. Facility: In our group, I have personally been to a few other escape rooms and I can say that they have a bigger place to accommodate a larger clientele. There are enough space to sit (or even just stand around). The place wasn’t too busy when we came and we didn’t have to wait for our room to be available. There are a few puzzles in the waiting area that people can try to solve, however the pieces are all mixed in so you won’t know which one is which. Staff: The staff were really friendly and accommodating. They explained how everything worked and even told us a bit of a history regarding the place. The owner even mentioned that he has another business that we would really love to try out sometime. During the time that we were there, they tried to entertain new customers and as well as the people in the rooms asking for hints/clues. There were only two of them but they were able to manage to keep everyone happy with minimal wait time. Rooms: The puzzle rooms are fairly large and can fit at least 5-7 adults. The room that we did, as I understand it, is an easy-medium difficulty. The puzzles flowed perfectly and the degree of difficulty is just right. The staff was very good in providing help (which we needed, twice.) BUT at the same time, they did not entirely lead us to a clue and let us figure it out for ourselves. The things used in the rooms are taken care of properly and everything was neatly and properly set-up when we started. Price: The price for the experience is the same as most escape rooms. Most of them range from $15-$25 and this place falls around the middle of that. For the price that we paid, and the time and the fun factor --- I can honestly say that it was worth it. In conclusion – Durham Escape Rooms is easily one of the best rooms that I have been to. They are nice and friendly to their customers and by the looks of it, are willing to go the extra mile to make sure that everyone who goes to their place will have a great experience. The only suggestion I can think of is to have different forms of puzzles (not the multiple pieces one that if one part gets lost, the whole thing is ruined) for people who are in the waiting room. I am going to go back to this place again and I will surely recommend this place to everyone else.

My friend's and I recently played Villainous Virtuoso at Durham Escape Rooms and we had a blast. This was my second time at an escape room and my expectations going in were high. It's safe to say that DER surpassed those expectations. The clues were tricky but clever and very relevant to the theme of the room. The Villainous Virtuoso room also used some great effects to mimic the magician theme of them room. The staff were friendly and greeted us with enthusiasm on our arrival. I would love to go back and try the rest of the rooms!

The atmosphere before going in is SO cool - I want that bookshelf door! And the staff was all very friendly and helpful! The rooms were very cool (a few of the things didn't pop out in a noticable way so we wasted some time) but overall it was really cool! I'm not gonna say what it was - but essentially if they don't tell you not to do something - you should try it. There was a thing that didn't look like it was actually supposed to be a part of the room - it was very much a part of the room. As you can see tho - despite my above warnings - this place still warrants 5 stars. Best escape room place I've ever been to.

If you’re nearby-and are looking for something fun to do- go here, go here, GO HERE! I’ve been here on two separate occasions thus far, once with a larger group and the other with a slightly smaller one. The rooms are challenging, and very creative. The last room I escaped, “Villianous Virtuoso”, was increadiblely well-done and MAGICAL. I highly recommend it. I also have nothing but great things to say about the staff there. Yesterday we did our second room here (Doll Island) first I highly recommend this place we did our first room about 2 weeks ago and even tho we didn't succeed it was an amazing time. Such great rooms and decorations in the rooms. Second I want to highly suggest doing Doll Island it was such a crazy experience we had 4 people and it was such a fun experience sharing the camcorders and being in the dark added a great addition to the game. Can't wait to do the other 8 rooms! Last shout out is for Adam and the rest of the staff (I hope I have this right) he was our game master both times and really gave it the extra story and excitement but over all all the staff are amazing to work with!

Hah, even in their response to this review they are calling me wrong. Whatever. Let things speak for themselves. The staff were super nice but when I talked to the owner and explained how the puzzles were illogical and required huge leaps in logic to solve, he got really pissy with me and basically called me stupid for giving constructive criticism on how to improve the room. Wasn't worth the $30 per person we paid for the 15 minute time limit they imposed. I will never be reccomending this place to anyone and I implore you to find an escape room that has been in business longer than this and actually knows what they're doing.

I have been here twice. Both times had problems that really ruined the experience of the game. Out of respect for the company and players who haven't tried, I'll try to be vague about my gripes. I did the villainous virtuoso room yesterday. Within the room, the attraction that brings the group together (the door) did not activate when we solved it. This caused us to look for more solutions to go with it, for at least 10 minutes. After that, we called for a clue. The staff came in and said, oh, it should've worked. Then left and came back to manually open the puzzle. We were promised more time, but since there was group that booked behind us, while we were in the room, we did not get our extra time. The staff came in after our time was up and walked us through what we missed, which I appreciate, but still was a let down. There is another puzzle within the room (keypad) that will time out if you don't put the code in fast enough. The problem is, there is no indication that it has timed out. After putting in the correct code, too slow, we spent majority of our time trying to get another code. We had to call for a hint and the staff just said put it in faster. If there was a clue such as "make sure you're fast" or "time is of the essence for this code" it would make the experience better. My group figured out the puzzle quickly, but was severely brought down in morale by this small problem. My last problem is that the overarching message you get multiple times is that "a magician never does a trick twice". This threw us off for a puzzle, as there are two doors that require the same trick to work in order for them to open. I have done about 4 escape rooms (2 at this establishment) and 2 at others. This experience, was definitely my worst, but I feel bad, because this room was definitely the best on paper. The tricks are very well thought out and would've been awesome to experience. For my other experience, a few months prior, I did the prohibition room. It was fun, but it needs better quality props that "zero" correctly, or the puzzle requires more leniancy for the number input. Overall, the staff is very nice, enthusiastic, and helpful. The room themes are very fun and unique. It was not worth 25$ a person for the experience though, because of the small let downs of the props sometimes not working.

Thank you for your response. I based my review on my experience at the spy 1 room. I do understand that this room has been phased out, however I can only base my review on what I've seen. In detail. The room lacked any decor or interesting visuals. The majority of the puzzles consisted of putting a pin into a padlock and we found the connections from the information to those locks obscure and random at best. My biggest complaint with this room was the reliance on waiting for outside information. I get it, it's an interrogation themed room and while I understand all of my complaints can be explained in the name of theme, if the theme is getting in the way of a good play experience, it's probably time to re-evaluate the room. In a time sensitive event, having solved everything you can in the room and then being forced to wait for staff to slide the critical information under the door was not a very rewarding experience. Overall I must say I was very happy with your staff, location and cleanliness but I have to judge an escape room based on the quality of the rooms I have tried. Thank you and best wishes with your new rooms.

We had a really great time - with two families combined in one room, there was plenty of space and plenty of puzzles and challenges. We had great help from K-Dog when it got a little too puzzling, and the rest of the staff made us feel welcome and took a bunch of photos of us when we were done. I went with a group of experienced escapers but we were largely disappointed with our experience. Some puzzles had no clues to help guide us and were completely arbitrary while others had clearly been thought out. Also, The room was not set up properly - two locks that were supposed to be set up were left open which gave us access to clues too early (and one was the lock to the final task so we could have walked out 30 seconds in with the final note because it hadn’t been locked up). When we expressed that the room had not been set up right to the staff she seemed to brush it off as though it was no big deal - but we had paid $100 for the group of us to use the space and had hoped she would at least express some sort of empathy for our situation. We understand mistakes happen but were wildly disappointed with the lack of customer service as a follow up.

Awesome Escape rooms! Recently I went in to play their Newest room: Welcome to the Black Rabbit. It was soo fun and cool. The room is meant for 4 people however I did it with one other person. This room has the perfect balance of tech puzzles and traditional lock puzzles. We really enjoyed it. We ended up needing 3 clues and finished about 2 minutes after the timer stopped. Can’t wait to try another escape room here. Amazing staff, he really got into the role and the entire experience made us feel completely immersed. Thank you!

Went twice with family. Going into it I was skeptical and expected everything to be corny. I was shocked by how much I enjoyed it. The room was so cleverly put together and story believable and fun. Even with a large group be struggled which didn't detract from the good time we had. Later we discovered we had picked the second hardest room. I would definitely return again. You can really tell the ppl who run it and work there love what they do. Bonus points for the cute doge running around.

Unlike other escape rooms I have been to, this place is awesome. It has a comfy lobby with lots of rooms to choose from. The staff is always so nice and accommodating. They allowed us to change rooms on a slower night so myself and girlfriend could do a room alone. Although the room was difficult, the puzzles were fair, the theme, puzzles, music and decor all matched throughout. If you want a really fun experience where the owners care about your experience, this is the place to go. We had one minor issue with something in the room, but it didn't change our experience in the slightest as it was our fault. We thought the walkie talkie wasnt working, but we had the volume turned all the way down, so they couldn't hear us. Overall, an awesome experience. Go check em out!!

Rooms are very bare, not a lot of decorations was expecting more based off the pictures from the website. Looks like they went shopping at dollar stores. Puzzle boxes were broken making it more difficult to open. At least have working items for people to work with! The average height slim guy (didn't catch names) was quite rude to several guests. Came off as very arrogant. Would not recommend or go again.

I booked a private session for my aunts birthday, and i will be honest my aunt is the only one who wanted to go, the rest of the family was skeptical to say the least, however by the end of the session we all wanted to do it again! Now that I have more time, I would like to elaborate on the this review. If you're trying to make a selection between multiple escape rooms I highly recommend Durham Escape Rooms. We are from out of town and had a prebooked scenario. Upon arrival we found out that our group was too large for that room as we had two toddlers in tow. The gentleman working explained the issue but made a recommendation for another room. They were friendly and helpful throughout our visit and even allowed us a five extra minutes to solve the room as we were on the verge of doing so before time ran out, rather than coming in and offering us the solution gave us a nudge in the right direction. The room was challenging yet enjoyable. The staff was beyond wonderful! Thanks for the experience guys!

Always been pleased with our visits weather we got out or not. Tonight staff and room problems were a big downer. If the room needs to be tweeked then it shouldn't be open. Also if the participants are stuck because of the room problem and can't get out then it might be nice to actually offer them something in return. A discount next visit or something. The girl tonight pretty much didn't care to hear our opinion on what happened not did she offer any compensation . We've been here over ten times and probably won't come back as the staff couldn't be bothered with us.
