Great beer. We tried a testing tray with some sour flavored beer, one that is infused with berries, one that is mixed with blood orange juice which was great and another one that tested traditionally lightly bitter. The nachos was great. Absolutely recommended !

Love the fresh soft pretzels with kosher salt-- psst, they're vegan! Divine snack with a bit of proper spicy mustard alongside a cold beer (or locally made kombucha!) Always friendly staff, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices. Plus it's so close to the park across the street that you can walk over and enjoy some beers after your outside time. We are regulars! 4 stars because I wish they had vegan cheese to go with the pretzels ????

Very good beer, especially their more interesting brews like the coffee ale and kiwi IPA. The tasting room was disappointing though - nachos were a let down, our flights were labeled only with a scribbling on scrap paper, and we're pretty sure our growler was filled with the wrong beer (but it wasn't labelled, so we don't know for sure). We make a point of visiting tasting rooms all over the island and this one needs improvement.

This place was pretty good. We ordered a sampler of four beers and they were pretty good. The only downside to our experience was the weird vibe we got from the ambiance. The place is really big inside but was almost empty when we arrived. Also there was nothing else to do but drink and no good food options. Great if you just like to drink beer.

Had high expectations, we love brew pubs and tap rooms, this one was a let down. The beer was good, but the noise from the brew room...deafening. Hard to ruin nachos...but they did. $10 for burnt chips, cold ground beef, and a few pieces of unmelted cheese and store bought salsa....ug

Slightly above average craft beers and the crisps with onion dip was good. What was lacking was warmth from staff. Arrived about 3:15pm and got scowls from all three staff I encountered. No “hello” or “thank you”. Felt like we were inconveniencing them. Room is nice and bright.

I had a soft pretzel with asorted dips and mustard and grilled cheese sandwich with some spicy dip. Also drank Mount Benson IPA and Men in BlackBerry beers. Both, food and beer were tasty selections to quench my hunger and thirst. Helpful staff, courteous and witty helped out with selection. Inventory of Tshirts, sweaters, hoodies and hats is rather small, most sizes for large men missing, hinting at popularity of such items. I'd definitely recommend this place while you wait for the ferry or just exploring the surrounding area.

Great atmosphere & staff, lots of parking around back, growler fills are cheap, $11. bucks, now the beer, it’s craft, so it’s already better than any commercial beer, the dark ipa was tasty, and I normally don’t like dark beer, it was so good I almost got a growler fill, their ipa was good but lacked late addition of hops and no dry hop, it is a bit disappointing if you like a lot of dry hop, although still an incredible beer! every batch is different so maybe next time it will have that hop aroma , ????, I’d suggest this place, it’s very busy and the staff are friendly.

Their beer is absolutely, unquestionably delicious. I am, however, of 2 minds regarding the line up and pay to get your own beer. Maybe I'm just a princess and like having a servant bring me my ale. I do like being able to just get up and leave when I've consumed my malted beverage....also, no food, but the food trucks are definitely a step in the right direction.

As a non beer drinker, I don’t frequent craft breweries like this often. White sails is a friendly, comfortable place to meet up with friends, with a few options for food and seating. Staff helped me find a few drink options to try, which I enjoyed, and the charcuterie plate was tasty and well presented. The space has a warehouse-meets living room feel, with a fireplace on one side and a high 2-storey ceiling. Unfortunately the seating isn’t super comfortable. Accessibility: easy parking in back, great location, with level access, no stairs and good accessible washrooms. Some may have difficulty with the two sets of glass doors at the entrance. Lighting in the evening is medium level but well placed. Several tables are high-tops and inaccessible to wheelchair users, with a mix of small tables and lounge seating options as well. Seating options for wheelchair users may be hard to find when it’s busy.

Just out of downtown Naniamo. It is your usual brewery. Minimalist seating in an industrial design. View of the stainless steel and a small food menu of the usual stuff. Pretzels, beer nuts and salami sticks. Also had a coffee bar and items for kids. Lots of board games too. Beer was good too. Had about 8 beers, 1cidre and a guest tap. Fights were under $10. All the beers were quite good with your standards and a few challenging ones. Will go back

Ordered a charcuterie board, 55 minutes I asked for a refund and went elsewhere. Literally the only ones in the place. Sooo hungry but apparently putting meat and cheese on a plate and informing customers of the delay is too difficult

As a beer enthusiast, I was judging this location as soon as I walked into the door. The lounging environment is very tidy and a good place to enjoy a beer. Although, the menu for food is lacking more items of choice for great place to enjoy your night. The main reason I visited White Sails, was of course, to try their beer and fill my growler. I asked the bartender if I could try certain beers before I selected the one I wanted; and unfortunately I had to pay for each beer I sampled. I didn't want to walk out of there with a beer I didn't like so I went ahead and paid for it. Most breweries let you try their beers before you select your growler choice, and to me this was quite frustrating. In total I had to pay 19 dollars to fill my growler along with the samples I had, seems quite pricey. Other than this, I found that their beers taste great and they compete with other top brewers on the island. This establishment has potential with the beers they serve but need to cater to their customers a little more.

I've always loved this pub (even though in the pre-pandemic days it often got quite full). I absolutely love not only the local brews on tap, but also the lovely pretzels and other snacks that keep the beer company in my belly. I'm happy to report that White Sails have adapted to pandemic protocols extremely well, and the main room looks clean, safe, and as stylish as ever. White Sails is a great place for anything from an after-work snack, to meeting a friend, to a date. I highly recommend this lovely pub to everyone.

Great place to stop by have local beer, or get some to take home. They allow you to bring in your infants too, so new parents aren't shunned. Only downside is there really isn't too much food options (it's a brewery not a restaurant) and it's a bit of a walk to a restaurant.... Other than that,.... Definitely check it out,..... Starting going to White Sails when it first opened but like many smaller breweries it takes a while to get into stride. Well they've done that and more. Their brews are now very very good and competitive with other breweries. The chocolate porter is fantastic as is the Mt. Benson IPA. Seems to be a much more 'happening' place now. Glad to see that. The food offerings are not extensive and I guess it is better to focus on making beer rather than being a pub. The charcutiere plate is excellent and great value for money! An excellent addition to Nanaimo, it's downtown theme and hopefully a long term member of our community!

Friendly staff who must enjoy their work 'cause they are always smiling. Clean open space with lots of natural light. I don't drink but friends tell me that the beer is pretty darn good. They do offer a variety of softdrinks from Phillips Soda Works; my favourite is Sparkmouth Ginger Ale. Nice touch: Playing cards and a selection of board games are available for use at no charge

Check out their website - we loved how they feature their connections with local businesses in their food menu (and with the coffee lager!). Great service, and a great venue. You are encouraged to play one of the many board games they have there. This brewery has done it right.

Day trip to Nanaimo from Vancouver. The beer competes with the breweries in Vancouver but the ambiance at White Sails definitely beats Vancouver breweries. It was so comfortable and inviting. Will definitely return! Good beer (quite a hoppy selection, but that’s expected in BC).

I came here with my gynecologist, Terrence. He said it'd be a good location for an after-hours pap smear. It was quite uncomfortable because there were so many other people just sitting around drinking beers. We left quite quickly. The floors were also sticky.

They've only been open for two years, and they've already won two medals from the World Beer Awards for the CDA and the IPA. Great ambience, friendly staff.

Great beers. This time I tried their wonderfully hoppy with massive citrus notes. They also can order food from many different nanaimo eateries, which is good.

Absolute terrible customer service. We were going to grab a beer tonight and quickly realized it was too busy so we left. As we were leaving, the front customer made a very rude comment about how we’re full and there was no room and was extremely nasty. Train you’re workers to treat customers properly or we will not come back.

An excellent brewery. The beers are clean and well-balanced. Good standards and features, and they usually have a rotating tap. Best place in Nanaimo to grab a pint. Prob best place in Nanaimo, full-stop. Also serves a small list of bites. The food is on the light side, so not the best option if you’re starving. But, the food is good and pairs well with the beer. The space..! Awesome long and tall post-and-beam room with a mix of communal and private tables. Massive fireplace in the centre. If you visit Nanaimo, like beer, and didn’t go here, you’re failing at life.

My sister and I visited on Monday afternoon around 2 pm. The beer was a 4, the atmosphere was a 3 and the service was a 1 because of the attitude of the wait person serving the beer. She was extremely rude to a male guest who left unhappy and was anything but pleasant when serving us. She's in the wrong job!

I will never revisit this place. I was standing waiting to be helped and the guy working walked past me multiple times without acknowledging me. Two other customers came in after me and he went straight to them and started helping them choose beers they might like. I waited until they were finished talking and asked if dogs were allowed inside or if we could sit on the patio. He abruptly said that dogs aren’t allowed and the patio is closed. I left feeling ignored and had the feeling that he had racially profiled me as there was no reason I could see for the difference in how he treated me versus the people that entered after me. It didn’t feel right.
