To this day the business has a rating of 4.6 over 5 and this score has been based on 127 reviews.
You must have seen that its rating is nearly the top, and it's based on a high number of opinions, so we can say that the evaluation is very accurate. If there are many people who bothered to rate when they are pleased, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually bother to set reviews when these are correct and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Travel Agency corresponds to the category of Art gallery.
There are two locations. So this is for both as they're seemingly a package deal. The one that is Not on Brock is mostly lower Canada inspired while the Brock location focuses on upper Canada. Cool idea. The owner is extremely welcoming and spent good time explaining this passion project. Great nook filled with different art styles.
Very cool gallery and friendly service. Worth a visit.
A Kingston gem! Martello Alley is such a cute place filled with amazing art. If your are looking for a new piece or a Kingston souvenir stop by to browse through lots of art from local artists and meet the enthusiastic people who work there!
A neat little area to check out with art inside and outside. Definitely a "low-key" art place to see ie staff is not judgemental and welcoming. Was cool seeing the work of local artists. I also just adore cute little alleyways and the owner's effort to make it similar to Queben City's art alley is evident.
Interesting ghost story associated with the spot: "A murdered lady looking for her secretly buried bones" Area looked creepy at night but harmless in the daytime. Close to lots of other neat little stores and restaurants
A local gem often missed by those who live in Kingston. So much unique art and the owner is not just passionate but a pleasure to spend a few hours with. Highly recommend checking it out!
Charming, warm and highly recommend! If you're visiting Kingston, you need to visit this place. I brought my 2 daughters with me (age 9 and 7) and as usual, my kids were walking well ahead of me. The owner opened his door and waved the girls to come in. I've never visited any shops where my children are welcomed like that (other than Disney! Lol). Owners were very warm and knowledgeable. Will visit again soon! Both kids treasure their little souvenir paintings and will be placing them on their desk as a sweet reminder of this charming shop.
Awesome art gallery! We both loved the french style alleyway and how unique it is! We met the owner who is not only a fabulous artist himself but has so many great ideas and stories about what they have done in the past to achieve awesome things! Very knowledgeable and spent the good part of an hour here :) The art was amazing and we would recommend all you guys to go and check it out! P.S the owner is also bilingual! See you again Martello Alley! Kate & Loïc
We were met with great gusto by the owner, who launched into storytelling about the gallery, local history, and more! The artwork is all local and some of it is really excellent. Lots of prints are for sale as well as the artwork itself. A great stop to enjoy the setting and see what local artists are up to.
Artists on site, very helpful describing character and different processes of art making. Lots of pieces and variety to select from. Art sold on site. Reproductions, originals, mounted, framed, nightlights, get there during froid art display!!
The local art is amazing and its great that there is a place to showcase unrecognized talent in the area. Obviously the owners pride themselves (and rightly should!) In the magnificent effort of revamping the alley to create their own one of a kind place it is a a marvel and an eye draw. Its to bad that the (male) owner came of as a creep speaking about the vast amount of college girls that his art draws and apparently oogles at whilst lamenting sadly of his marriage. Before jumping into a very revealing 10 minute rave about himself and his art, not once did he highlight or even mention the other artists he had showcased, he bad mouthed and criticized other "failed" local gallery's and very much left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The real clincher was the way he obsessed showing off his instagram "follower" count, insisting that I follow him and watch the "cool" live tracking counter he had outside. Honestly it is sad as the talent displayed is wonderful but i would honestly look else where before hanging you art here as he seems to be more interested in himself then the hard working artists displayed. I personally wont be wanting to return in the future and subject myself to the pervy art collector's musings again.
Beautiful, unique art alley gallery! Down a charming alley beside a sweet tea shop... very friendly vibes and beauty all around! Though my visit was brief as I just stumbled upon them, I'm eagerly looking forward to going back asap! A definite must see for those who who see! ;) The variety of fabulous artists and the welcoming atmosphere will brighten your day!
Really cool hidde alley with a friendly owner and his cute art gallery. Worth a stop!
Has a bunch of great artwork and helps support local artwork. But the shop owner can be pushy if not a little rude. Otherwise a great place to see local artists work and support them.
The owner is the most kind person in Kingston. It's a beautiful place to watch and buy art
A great hidden gem! Lots of amazing local artists!
Really unique place with a lot of original art.
I cld go on and on about this "Hidden' gem in Kingstom, but best you visit yourself and see.
My Daughter and myself spent a fun filled hour learning about this Gallery we were fascinated by its Character it's past and present Its a must visit real learning curve I plan to revisit in Nov Xmas Shopping????????????????????
Absolutely the most wonderful experience. From the moment you walk in and are greeted in the most welcoming manner to the goods sold within. Everybody should drop in as a must do in Kingston!
If your a seasoned art collector or trying to find a place to start your collection then go no further than Martello Alley. They have all kinds of art work big or small from all kinds of artists in the Kingston and surrounding area. I had the pleasure of stopping in today and I must say it looks fantastic. Its been a few years since my last visit and I must say the changes that were made are excuisite and well chosen. Even if your not interested in purchasing anything it's worth the visit just to be able to take in the beautiful scenery and wide selection of art that they have to offer. Make sure to ask the owner of the gallery about each piece because some of them come with a pretty interesting story your not gonna want to miss!
Found this on Trip Advisor as I was looking for something to do before I was able to check into my hotel. There are signs for it and then you walk down an alley into a man-made area which is cute and looks like houses and there is a sitting area. The store itself isn't big but hold tons of prints and some original pieces of art. The owner was very friendly and nice and showed us some prints he thought we would like. I ended up getting a Tragically Hip print. Some pieces of art are only made into 100 copies and I was lucky enough to get #1. The corner has the print number on it. I would recommend this to anyone, whether they like art or not. The staff is friendly and it made the experience so much better.
Beautiful art by local artists .. lovely shop!
Great local Art Gallery with such a unique atmosphere and entrance way. A lot of the art made by local artists of shops and landmarks in Kingston. Has some great and unique finds like colouring books of Kingston locations.
Martello Alley is an awesome spot to check out. Unique gifts and a creative feast for your eyes. The setting is quaint.
An absolutely adorable little place with unique local art. The gallery owner is very passionate about what he does and has obviously put his heart and soul into the place. Take a stroll into the area, where the gallery is tucked away in an alley, but the art begins right away. Even if you're not passionate about art, give the place a look and you'll surprise yourself with how much you'll enjoy it. The owner and artists are always more than happy to share details or interesting facts about their work.
Walk under the archway and enter the whimsical world of Martello Alley. Best described as an art installation that leads to an art store. My sister and I explored the space and chatted with the very friendly owner. Well worth a visit while in Kingston.
Always lots to see here. Lovely unique art and gifts for yourself or someone else. You have to visit when you are in Kingston!
This place cool and I really like the bike artwork done on the window screens
Lovely and unique art with very friendly store owner.
I stumbled upon this place and spent a wonderful afternoon talking math and art with David and Yvonne. Definitely worth spending some time here.
Very special place. Unique work from local artists. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Super cute use of space for the neighbouring restaurants too (ask how when you arrive)!
Very cool selection of all sort of art and crafts. The owner is very friendly and chatty.
The pictures made it look a lot bigger. The owner is super friendly and energetic.
Dave, I'm sure your gallery is lovely, but in all honesty I haven't been there. May I make the suggestion that in the future, you pay more attention to your conduct and words when speaking to and about other local business owners? As a recent example, when learning our business is closing, it was tactless to open the conversation with "Oh, couldn't make it?" and then proceed to trash another recently closed store, the former owner of which we happen to be on good terms with. I doubt you recall, but on another occasion you also came in to our store and proceeded to tell us what we -could- be doing with the space, which was to showcase -artists- that could have been interpreted to imply that we are not artists ourselves. Of the multiple times that you came in to our store, not once did you ask us about our work or processes, but rather about other local businesses or your own. Once is forgivable, twice is uncomfortable, three times is a habit. Yours, Miranda Scott Alchemy House Jewellery
Very nice artist place, nice pictures, I do recommend a visit.
Unique place in hidden alley! Absolutely lovely.
Great place, truly inspiring. Keep up the good work David, it was a pleasure to meet you :)
If you enjoy art and you are in Kingston, you need to stop by this place. Always the cutest little pieces and they are really reasonable. We wanted to redocoatre our living room and found a couple of different art pieces from here that …
Really fun little art nook! They’ve made very creative use of the space, and have turned a drab little alley into a tiny little explosion of wonder and colour! Worth a visit!
'Martello Alley' has amazing art in all price ranges. Something for everyone. And always new art pieces every time I go in. Owners are very friendly. Their second store 'Martello on Brock' is only 2 1/2 minutes away. It's very cool also. A must see for sure!
Beautiful one-of-a-kind art for that hard to buy for person.
Came across this great little alley in Kingston. Great little place the owner was very friendly and chatty, had a good time just talking with him. If your in the area I suggest stopping in to have a look.
A beautiful alley filled with artwork , the artist is extremely nice and personable and takes time showing you the work and explaining the art history. A must visit in Kingston
Met David here in Martello Alley. A very good guide to an almost magical area! With exceptional art and an immense amount of creativity put in to such an fun environment its definitely worth the trip by!
Love the story behind Martello Alley and the nook of art they've added to the city! Stop by and have a look. ALL city alleys could use a bit of Martello.
Unique local artist on display, reasonable prices, fabulous owners
The area has received a major facelift. Really friendly folk who work and own the place. The items inside are quite nice and a wonderful array of arts and crafts.
What a creative use of an historic valley! A great time there looking at various local artists’ works while having a friendly conversation with David, the creator of this space. There are signs along with art that tells the story as well. A great place to visit!
Great shop supporting the local artists!
Very cool place to check out in the city. Dave was great to talk with.
Excellent pieces from local artists and wonderfully decorated alley. It's a must see in Kingston!
This is like a time warp at this place. The owner artist has really out done himself
A nice surprise to have found this cute alley in Kingston ON. The walls of the alley display art and information about the local artists. The Alley also contains a private patio for the Tea Room....nice place to get away from the hustle …
Very neat spot, tucked away like a hidden treasure.
Great place to immerse yourself in the art culture in and surrounding Kingston
The owner David is a retired programmer who now runs Ontario’s only art alley. Two other resident artists can be found on-site, as well a plethora of original pieces, each of which bears it’s own story. Even the oil receptacle from the adjoining restaurant has been cleverly redesigned to fit the theme. Lovely spot for an original piece, or even a photo opp.
What a great collection of wonderful things. Very pleasant lady and helpful.
Amazing local art, very affordable and unique. There is something for everyone. Highly recommended! Very beautiful place and decor, where you can take amazing pictures both outside and inside the store. Very friendly owners.
A hidden gem! Would suggest to anyone to visit! The owner is really nice too, he just made this treasure 3 years ago! Kingston is lucky to have this place!
Really cool interstitial space turned into an art alley.
Entrancing! The variety of beauty on display was worth the long journey. The diversity of art works (mediums) is great. Everybody needs to visit! High tea is something I would like to try next time. The ladies enjoying theirs had the loveliest spread on the table.
Cute and charming alley with some unique eclectic art.
Great works by local artists but limited. Perhaps the gallery could expand the number of its contributing artists.
Very nice and well decorated. Loved it
Wide selection of distinctively unique arts!! It showcased each artists' style and it was all very impressive to look at. I personally loved the glass art and loved the way the alley was set up. Every inch of the space was put into good …
art in a roofed-over alley, though it's a decorated alley. if the weather's fine go have a browse. there is a small store at the inner end if the weather is not nice. local artists.
Impressive galley in an interesting setting. The owner of the gallery has done a great job of creating a terrific place to visit. He is also very enthusiastic and loves to tell you about his work. He is great to chat with. A little tough to find, but be sure that you do.
Oh, my! I love this place!! Stop next door at the Tea Shop and get a pastry/drink, then sit in the courtyard.
Great experience! It definitely has added beauty to the downtown Kingston. Wonderful owners. Will visit again if someday go back to Kingston.
Lovely little artistic enclave - thoroughly enjoyed it! Worth a visit.
Beautiful little gem...makes you feel like you've stepped into old Italy ????
Very cool place! Beautiful local art work displayed and amazing set up! Overall a very different interesting place to go to support local art!
Love this art alley! Such a great find in a great location. Art at it's best... Authentic... Raw.. beustiful and honest. Definitely worth the visit!
Great stop! Wonderful art, an interesting place and hospitable people. Highly recommended.
I have travelled many places in the world but I have never experienced any place like Martello Alley. It almost feels as though you are part of a giant mural when you step into the courtyard. One is propelled into the scene that the artists have created. It is not an uptight, uncomfortable gallery space, but rather a living, breathing dynamic space where every corner inside and out, is a feast to the eye. If you live in Kingston and want somewhere to bring your visitors, need a gift, or want to fill your wall with something special, I bet you can find what you are looking for here. If you are visiting the city, be sure to make this part of your stay. It is a special place that you will most assuredly want to include in your memories of the limestone city.
Amazing place! Feels like you've fallen into a dream because it is so rustic and gorgeous. The lady there is awesome also! We had a long conversation because she is just the friendliest person. Bought some one of a kind art. Very good price for original work.
Great permanent art installation and gallery in downtown Kingston. Worth the trip if passing through the city or to anyone who lives here and hasn't been.
David is a delight. As owner of this collective he’ll be your guide to the art, artists and beyond to the history of the city and more. It’s worth a visit to this cosy art space - take some amazing local art with you.
I first visited Martello Alley in 2017. It is now coupled with a sister gallery, Maroon Brock. Both outstanding local art galleries.
Neat selection of art pieces. Highly suggest taking a look around. Brightens up what used to be the dark alley of Kingston.
What an interesting discovery in Kingston. Wished we have more time and come back to enjoy some afternoon tea. Hope to visit again.
The owner is very nice. The alley is beautifully done and the art work inside was wonderful.
From Japan :) Great spot to drop by. So many interesting, awesome, and unique artworks. You can enjoy and purchase them. The owners are super friendly and nice.
I really enjoyed my visit to Martello alley, although I wont be returning. The owner was super over bearing and over explained his buissness, his art and his lack of returning local customers, and I know why. The general ambiance to the alley is NOT local. Its plastered with decorative signs and what I can only describe for lack of a better word as clutter. The gallery itself does not let you focus on the art work and has you wondering what's decor and what's for sale. The own and curator of the galley failed to inform me about ANY of his local artists merely talked about himself. Its set up and feels like a tourist attraction, not a local artist enclave. Martello alley is a interesting place to visit because you actually have a chance to speak with the artist who are represented there.
Nice little out of the way gallery check it out when in Kinston
Great little gem of an art gallery in Kingston
This is the most charming alley I have ever been in. I would never give this advice about any alley, however with Martello, I highly suggest that you roam around, talk to the owner- David, and eat a snack, and enjoy your time learning about the artwork covering the walls! Great local art for sale within the gallery. It is well worth the visit!
What a fantastic unique art studio! So many talented people with a wide variety of beautiful paintings and photography from local artists. I bought 2 wildlife photographs from Karen Leggo which is perfect for my home. Can't wait to come back and buy more beautiful things that caught my eye. They are apart of Kingston you do not want to miss out on!
Owner is very kind and passionate about his project
Phenomenal little hideaway art studio and tea room. Accidental finding and quite interesting venue. Proprietor was quite friendly and informative.
Cool little place that has art pieces from local artists. Owner is super nice and creative. He created and painted the entire space. Worth the visit!
If ever you are in the area this place needs to be seen! The creativity is amazingly clever. There is art of all genres you are sure to find something you love! My personal favorite was the art that belongs to the owner him self. The emotions that he captures in his art is breathtaking. I was visiting from Ottawa and I cannot wait to go back.
Beautiful
The art gallery’s garden is a delight.
My wife and I came to Kingston for our honeymoon (our options were obviously limited due to COVID-19, but this city was far enough away for us to still feel like it's a getaway). That being said, we toured around the city, checked out quaint coffee shops, all the vintage gift stores, the Kingston Penitentiary, took a ferry to Wolfe Island, and much more. The place that truly captured our hearts during our time in Kingston was none other than Martello Alley. My wife enjoys looking at creative expositions of work, and I can appreciate them, but what really had us resonating with Martello Alley was the ethos behind its conception. David (the owner) had a vision to clean up a small little nook in the city and give it new light. A corner in which its only purpose was to serve as a dumpster area was redefined and repurposed to become both a place of beauty and invitation to explore, and an open space where local people can display their work and build community amongst themselves. Martello Alley has turned from a place of disposal into a place where voices are heard, voices from people who are regular and enjoy art, voices from people of minority backgrounds, and voices from people who are severely pushed to the margins. Having David share this story with us was powerful, because a relatively smaller initiative carried such a big impact and continues to do so. I hope to see a ripple effect from this, where simple regular people with a heart to revitalize an area and clear the stigma behind some neighborhoods can creatively navigate what the needs of the community are, and develop plans to execute them under a lower budget. David has done this, and my wife and I would like to follow suit in our own local setting, in our own unique way. I hope this review encourages you to check out Martello Alley while you are in Kingston and hopefully be inspired to help facilitate positive change wherever you call home. Have a wonderful day everyone, and thanks again David.
Really interesting experience. It is an art gallery with a quaint little entrance. The owner was really hospitable and he designed the space delightfully! Would have loved to attend one of his workshops.
Creativity is the best word to describe the place. It caught my eye when we just walked by from the parking to downtown attractions. Ducked there and met David (the owner), a very friendly person. He put a lot of effort to create something different from what you'd expect from standard attraction spots. Worth staying for a spell to enjoy the artwork.
Very cool hidden gem in the heart of the city
