Great experience and excellent staff! My five friends and I went paddle boarding yesterday (July 1st) and had an awesome time! The weather started off overcast but did get windy and rainy half-way through the paddle. Luckily we listened to the staff who were extremely helpful and recommended us to stay close incase the wind picked up. Overall we loved our time there and totally recommend it to anyone passing through Kingston!

Excellent customer service. It was friendly, prompt, and informative. We rented stand up paddle boards and the prices were reasonable. Only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the rentals don't track very straight so it over works you to keep it in a straight line, but then again it's not likely to get top of the line boards when renting. So while the rental equipment left a little bit to be desired, the customer service was great. I definitely recommend Ahoy.

Great place if you just want to get on the water fast for a cheap price. They just give you the kayak and throw you out there. There were no regular kayaks left so we got touring kayaks - thank God we are used to kayaking on the ocean or we would've definitely had some problems. They gave no instruction for how to use the rudder or the foot petals and when my girlfriend asked, it seemed like they didn't know. It's one of the only rental places in the city, so we will probably go back, but they are definitely taking advantage of that fact.

This was a perfect activity for my mom and I to ride around the waterfront. The guys helped us with figuring out where to go. It would be nice to have better maps, though, and a pannier in which to put things.

Great people, we went for kayaking and at that time it was windy we tried but unable to go further, we came back in 15min but one of the staff member charged for full hour, other staff member complained to owner and he came back and gave half hour more for next time. I fully recommend this place to visit. I went there 5time after that.

My friend and I came to Ahoy a few nights ago and rented SUPs and it was awesome! The staff were so friendly and helpful and spent a lot of time with us to make sure that we would be safe and comfortable. The equipment is in great condition and we felt very safe and taken care of. Do not go! Do not go! Do not go! Unless u have your OWN BOAT! 1. Charge you 15 mins ahead before you go on the Kayak. 2. No rescue boat! 3. No staff providing safety instructions even when asked 4. Renting out the Kayak if though they know there is a storm coming in very soon. (Ex. Thunderstorm 5. The Ahoy rental ONWER not respecting the customers. Blaming and yelling to the customers and not willing to take any responsibility even when he’s at fault. We as travellers coming to Kingston for fun. Renting two kayaks, after about 30min, the thunderstorm come in. We tried to blow the whistle, but there is no rescue boat coming. The wind blowed us to the centre of the lake and we could not get back because of the wind and waves. We were saved by two gentlemen on a passing by sail boat. And when we’re back to the dock, the business owner started blaming and yelling us, while trying to avoid any responsibilities on his end. We went on the Kayaks at about 2 pm. And here is the pic showing the weather at 3:39pm. The Ahoy rental OWNER ONLY CARES about MONEY! Value your life and stay away from this rental place. Thank you!

We rented a sailboat fro 2 days, and the service was excellent. The overall sail boat was ok on the outside but if you plan to stay overnight it is not very comfortable. We had to sleep next to the head so it smelled bad all night. Price is really good but you get what you pay for as for quality.

Online reservation strongly encouraged if you're planning to go on a weekend. I tried the SUP (stand up paddleboard) and it's a fun way to learn paddling on your own. The waves can get a little big sometimes when speed boats roar by, but overall a great experience.

We rented paddle boards on the weekend and had a wonderful experience! The staff were incredibly friendly, they helped us get set up and into the water safely. The equipment we used was in perfect condition and we didn't have to carry anything ourselves which was a nice bonus. We thought the pricing was very reasonable and we will definitely be back! I do recommend booking your time/equipment before going.

We needed the bikes to explore the little town. The time was close to 4pm, they close at 6pm but they wanted to close early so we could just rented the bikes for 1hr, it was enough time to see the little town. The staff not really attentive but is understandable in a small town. We won't probably be renting bikes again as they were not well maintained. Again we had little time before the closing so we just took them. 6 dollars for an hour I think is fair even if they are not well maintained.

Tankard is a very reliable boat. Don't expect a BVI style rental, but you can expect a boat in very good condition, well-equipped and well-maintained. Andrew rigged the boat in such way that it works well and is comfortable, and not overcrowded with useless gear, yet everything you need is there. All the lines converge into to cockpit, rendering it a really safe boat to maneuver in strong wind. In fact, the boat has probably been single-handed in the past, so it's a little awkward for the crew to maneuver around the jib sheets winches, but nothing serious. We also had a little glitch with the anchor fuse, but Andrew answered the phone when we called at 9PM, and we also had the manual anchor as a backup, so everything went well. Overall, we felt like we could trust the boat and had a beautiful trip around Prince Edward County and Main Duck, despite a windy week. Will rent again from Ahoysailing.

Avoid this place at all cost! I would give a minus 5 stars if I could. Had a near death experience with this business on Canada Day. We rented two kayaks when the weather was nice and sunny, and started paddling back when we saw the clouds gathering. The weather got stormy very quickly and then we were stuck and blown away from the shore. We tried the marine whistle, yet no help from the rental is coming (I don’t even know if they had a rescue boat at all). Luckily two gentlemen on a passing by sail boat came to rescue us and dragged us back to the dock. When we were on land soaking wet, instead of asking for well-being and safety, the first thing the business owner of the rental tried to do was to place the blame on us and avoid being responsible for anything. He tried to frame us for not reading the very vaguely drafted safety instructions on the wall and not “asking the staff the right questions”. We had mentioned to the staff earlier when renting the boat that we were novice to kayaking and we were new to this area. Yet the only “advice” we had ever gotten was “if you get used to the paddling, you can go wherever you want”, besides other COVID related items. If we had an experienced business owner with well-trained employees, we (as the novice kayakers) would have been advised against renting out the boat since the weather is going bad in about an hour. In an attempt to avoid responsibility, the staff was trying to tell lies about the instructions she had never given. What’s worse, in the heat of the conversation the owner tried to grab my credit card physically so he can get the payment. I can see how this man is trying to save operational cost by using undertrained staff, cutting off contingency safety measures, and placing every blame on his customers. Very irresponsible, unethical and unprofessional. I feel sorry for the people who work for this person and tell lies to cover his mess. And I don’t know how this business is still running with such an irresponsible owner running the business.

Attended for a pre-arranged bike rental with a group of 5 during regular business hours. At mid-day there was nobody at the desk. A phone number for contact was on the window. We called several times and left messages. After one hour no one had arrived. We never received a call back with an explanation or apology for the inconvenience. It ruined our afternoon. This is inexcusable and poor customer service. I would not return to this business.

Andrew was our captain. He is very knowledgeable and is a seasoned sailor with a vast knowledge of the lakes and surrounding area. I booked the sunset sail on line after seeing the sailboat docked at the boat launch. The website is user friendly and all of the prices are listed and fair. There is a staffed kiosk close by to inquire about all Ahoy Rentals has to offer, should you want to have that human connection. My wifey and I will definitely set sail again with Andrew and Ahoy Rentals. If you haven't checked out Ahoy Rentals, you definitely should.

These are worn out rental beaters, not "Well maintained classics" as stated on their website. We rented "Tankard" last summer and it is the worst condition boat I've ever been on. The cockpit has been painted with what appears like grey concrete paint and is a real eye sorer. The boat is equipped with new sails, but the foresail was only a working jib which is useless below 15kts winds ( which is what you get most often in the summer time) On our first day it rained quite a lot and the cabin ports leaked and the interior cushions became all wet. The engine had a severe vibration when in gear and Andrew the owner persisted to say that this was normal. And we had to use the engine quite a lot, (as we couldn't make decent headway under sail) and it made a very unpleasant and uncomfortable ride. Finally, when we took possession of the boat, it was filthy, there was dog hair everywhere and I do not know what they applied on the wood in the cabin but it was tacky and sticky, litteraly...Lesson learned for me and my recommendation is make sure you visit the boat before you book, don't be fooled by the nice pictures on their website like I did.

Now that I live close to the lake, I practically live at Ahoy Rentals. I paddle (kayak and SUP) locally (near Queen’s/KGH, Breakwater Park, and Lake Ontario Park) and to the stunning surrounding islands (i.e., Cedar Island, Whiskey Island, Garden Island, Wolfe Island, and Milton Island) for ~1-3 hours per session multiple times a week. The customer service is consistently outstanding and the equipment is incredible. Andrew and his staff (Abby, Ben x 2, Jocelyn, Julian and other lovely individuals whose names I don’t know yet) are amazing on all fronts – they are very friendly, highly knowledgeable, and go above and beyond to make sure that you have a safe and wonderful experience every single time you go out on the water. So how would someone become an "experienced canoer" if you just don't rent canoes out to "inexperienced canoers" period? To the owner: No, a tandem kayak was not mentioned, just that we could rent kayaks instead. I asked your staff whether they would show people who weren't experienced in canoeing how to use them and no mention of lessons was made then (as you expressed in your response). Your staff just reiterated that we would not be allowed to rent a canoe, with no mention of reasoning or safety or anything of that sort. You're free to set the policies you want for your business and that's fine, though delivery/communication can make a great difference depending on how it's done. Thanks anyways
