Molly Bawn is the best boat tour if you are looking for a nature tour and small groups. The tour is an hr 15 minutes. This is a photo of a whale who hung out with us for over an hr. The whale stayed with the boat and scratched it's back on the bottom of the boat. Jeanine, your guide, is a marine biologist who loves every moment on the water.

It is a one hour tour. We saw a whale and hundreds of sea birds. We had a foggy tour, the interpreter was good at pointing out the sights.

Wonderful and super knowledgeable crew. Kid friendly fun Beautiful scenery. Lots of puffins, bald eagles. Highly recommend even for those less seafaring folks

Awesome experience! Janine was very knowledgeable and so friendly, it was the most fun we've had on our trip to Newfoundland. We saw an unbelievable number of puffins and other birds on the islands. The puffin is the cutest bird we've ever seen! We love them.

What can I say. My husband and I REALLY enjoyed this trip. We spent about an hr and a half on the water and it was just beautiful. There were no whales for us today, but honestly that would have just been a bonus for us. The water was choppy and foggy when we started out and we got pretty wet but we honestly loved every minute of it. Janine was very knowledgeable and pointed out all the wildlife that surrounded us. We were heading back to shore when she spotted some dolphins in the distance so the skipper (who was AMAZING), turned the boat around so we could get a closer look. It was exciting to be right amongst their swim path. Would totally recommend. The islands and coves they took us to were stunning. Totally worth it.

Great tour. A few minutes past some of the bigger operators, but worth it. A slightly more intimate experience as the boat is not massive, which we appreciated. The price was more reasonable as well. The biggest bonus, however, was Jeannine. She is a scientist and thus highly knowledgeable, rather than trying to kill time with some goofy tourist stuff. We ended up seeing quite a variety of birds (puffins, eagles, etc) and 5 whales. The Humpback whales had not yet reached this area and she had suggested we go to Cape Race, which was an extra 2 hour drive on the Irish Loop. Lo and behold, we saw about 15 Humpback whales from shore - amazing. Highly recommended!!

Wonderful personalized boat tour of the puffins and murres. We even got our lifer thick-billed murre. Go with them you will enjoy.

David Wye

Great experience love the little trawler they use much more pleasurable ride than other options.

Dave Chambers

This was a great tour, and very informative!! We even saw a tuna fish jumping!! Would recommend highly!!

Dave Churchill

Had a load of fun on the tour. It's a smaller boat, so much more personal and closer to the water than a bigger tour boat.

Paul Fraschetti

The boat ride was amazing as well as seeing all the puffins. To see whales you need to be there June to July.

Great tour, saw more whales than we could count and got very close. The guide was very knowledgeable so we also learned a lot about the local birds, puffins and whales. Prices are also cheaper than compared to others. Would recommend this as the whale watching tour to do in the St. John's area.

I wish my pictures could accurately depict this once in a lifetime experience of being surrounded by thousands of birds. Seeing the birds, especially the puffins, so up close and personal was awesome--thanks to Molly Bawn and our knowledgeable host Jeanine.

Small tour group but very informative and caters directly to the wishes of its customers on its tours. Very impressed. If you are going out to learn about our marine environment versus singalongs, this is for you. I will be going again.

They should change their name. It should be “Puffin Tours”, with a tiny font as footnote below, “sometimes we see whales, for a few minutes”. Let’s be honest, the vast majority of us pay good money to take the boat tour in order to see BIG animals, in particular, whales. Dolphins and seals may be consolation prizes as well, but I do not need to be within 1km of an island to see puffins in the sea (in fact you could do that on land, at Elliston, where puffins may be waggering and pulling grass within 5 meters of you.) In fact, the staff at the Molly Bawn tour knows this too. For the daily update of their website, they put on whale pictures (instead of puffins). On 8/2, we did see a minke whale, at a huge distance, for a few minutes. But the boat did not linger, within 5 minutes it drove away to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve to “view the puffins”. Why? Because the tour is only 75 minutes long, they can NOT linger anywhere! (There are FOUR tours a day.) We went with the “Trinity Eco Tour” on 7/26/19, we encountered a humpback, and the captain stayed for a FULL HOUR with it! Totally worth the drive (nearly 3 hours from St. John’s) or overnight stay (we stayed at Bonavista; but you could stay at Clarenville which is on TCH and only 1 hour from Trinity, OR stay at Trinity which seems to be a very charming village.)

Walter and Janine (the skipper and biologist respectively) provided a delightful tour around the Bay and to the bird islands. The small boat allowed close proximity to the islands and an intimate experience throughout.

Did a 1.5 hr tour of Witless Bay. We loved it. The Captain was super with the kids letting them in his space. The guide was incredibly knowledgeable about marine wildlife. She knew her birds, as well as her whales and other marine mammals. The boat holds a maximum of 12. Our group was only 9. Highly recommended

Otto Guedelhoefer

We engaged them for or a private Puffin run. As photographer we wanted to focus on them and they accommodated us admirably for birds in flight and on the water. They were great.

Marge Hanssen

We had a great whale watching tour. There were so many whales and the boat gets up pretty close. Very good staff on the boat.
