Last evening Brandon and his horse Christopher, took us 3 ladies from New Brunswick, Canada on a tour of beautiful Victoria BC. Brandon was an excellent tour guide! Very informative of the city's history and added humor to make a great tour! Highly recommended!
We were on the 45 minute tour through the park and surrounding streets, our guide was very informative and knew much about the city and its history. Would consider doing it again!
Amazing, not cheap for tourists
This this doesn't even deserve one star. One of you workers yelled at me from. The side of the road and called me and idiot because I said to my friend in a privet conversation, that she was listening in on, and I said I don't support horses being pulled around. She has long brown hair and looks about to be in her early to middle 20s. I felt very disrespected and I'm sure the passengers felt very uncomfortable in that situation
We did the tour "Our Very Best (90 Minutes)" an hour before sundown with Kelly as our driver Emily as an interning driver and the beautiful old horse Molly. They picked us up at the hotel (special promo) and we started the tour by saying hi to Molly the Clydesdale. We trotted past attractions such as the Legislative Buildings, and the Fairmont Empress with some casual commentary on the historical significance. We continued into Beacon Hill Park and Kelly shared some fascinating stories about the parks history. Next Kelly took us through the historical James bay neighborhood with some of the city's oldest houses and a really cool story about the city encouraging owners to register the homes as historical houses and keeping them up in an authentic fashion. Next Kelly took us through the historical James bay neighborhood with some of the city's oldest houses and a really cool story about the city encouraging owners to register the homes as historical houses and keeping them up in an authentic fashion. As the sun set we enjoyed a view of the Olympic Mountains and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. We trotted up Government street through Old Town to Chinatown and back through another street in Old Town with its original waterfront buildings, ending back at the carriage stand near The Empress. I had seen many parts of the city before the tour but from the carriage I got to see them in a new way, perhaps because when walking and driving you see things at eye level but in the carriage it's easy to look up at the old buildings and take it all in without the need to pay attention to the road or foot traffic. For much of the tour Emily drove while Kelly regaled us with stories of the history of the place. Emily's driving made us feel safe even when others on the road were reckless and Kelly's stories seemed natural and un-rehearsed. Like a good waiter they were seemed present when we wanted but the tour was private enough to be romantic. I highly recommend Victoria Carriage Tours call and ask if these two are available for a tour and if you can do it with the sun setting between the park and old town.
I used to go on the carriage tours with my grandma when I was a little girl and finally just took my son on the "haunted" tour. We loved the stories, the sites and of course, the horses. Great way to see some gorgeous parts of Victoria!
Though it was a bit pricy, they charged me a different amount than what it showed online but it was really fun.
Absolutely second-to-none. Loved every minute of the trip through Beacon Hill Park. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, very personable, and a very conscientious driver. I would recommend this company, and our driver (I forget her name, she had Matthew - a dear 20 year old horse) and horse to anyone. Worth every penny, and I would do it again!
Enjoyed the tour very much. Martha was an excellent tour guide. Learnt lot about the area. A positive experience. Reserving on line was very easy too and their location easy to find. Will recommend it for sure. Oh Ruby was obliging too and give us smooth comfortable ride.
Very informative and entertaining!
Decided to treat the family to a fun activity today. It isn't cheap but it's worth the money. The driver was knowledgeable and polite. Being a local, I was worried we would hear about things we already knew but she was able to give us more info to the stories we've already heard. :-) I highly recommend this company! The horses are very well trained and we were even allowed to feed them apples when the ride was over.
Awesome staff, carriages are comfy, horses are well trained and gorgeous. Totally recommend.
Taylor was an absolute gem! She was very informative of every building we passed and its rich history with a nice bit of humor and passion for what she was talking about to make it incredibly enjoyable. she deserves a raise with all the passion and hard work she puts into her job. Her horse moon was quite cute too.
The horses look nice and healthy and well cared for. The tour is interesting and the view is lovely.

interesting and fun. A good way to see the city. My little one felt like a princess in the carriage.
Staff is the best thing I have EVER seen. Contacting them is extremely easy and they treat you like a friend rather then a costumer, makes you feel welcomed and exited for your ride. Truly recommend them.
We really wanted to see Christmas lights and were taken down dark roads...wasn't really what we were expecting.
A good jaunt through downtown Victoria by classic horse-carriage can't be missed! With some historic facts sprinkled in the tour, tourists will adore this piece of classic culture.
Please do not support this company. Misleading and irresponsible business. Seeks fundraising from the public claiming it can not operate, yet still operates, taking much needed fundraising and attention from businesses and charities in need. Horses looked bored and depressed in the heat.
Great tour! Alittle dissapointed in the locals harrasing the tours. Im a huge animal advocate (40 animals personally rescued) and I saw happy healthy horses getiing fed, pet, groomed, exercised the way work horses love to exercise. Luv the city! Not impressed with the hospital from the locals though.
Took my wife on a carriage ride for our wedding anniversary, we both were very impressed with the driver and horse (moon)! We took the 30 min "by the sea" tour at sunset and it was very romantic. The crew were very friendly and the horses were very nice and calm. Thank you for a wonderful tour
They put profit before the horses' wellbeing. Disappointing and will not support.

It is not safe for horses to be in the city. Dangerous/busy area. Please do not partake in this industry, the city and horses will be better off without.
I had never been to Victoria before and wanted a way to see the city that was different from the standard bus tour and I got it!! Our driver was Madison and she drove Ruby. There was a group of four of us ranging in ages from 30 to 60 and we all equally enjoyed the tour. We got the option that took us all over Victoria, recommend, which allowed us who had never been to see and learn a little bit about everything. Our ship was late docking due to weather and Tom and Victoria Carriage Tours worked with us so we would be able to get our tour when we did dock (about 2 or 3 hours later than originally scheduled. The only thing I would change would be to have a speaker or something in the carriage that would allow the driver to speak easier with the passengers as it was a little hard to hear over the traffic and outside noises. Visited October 2016
Twice now I've seen your carriage drivers on their cell phones texting while meandering through James Bay without passengers. This time the fellow told me he was 'texting his boss'. When people are petitioning to have horses and carriages removed from our streets because of safety concerns and accidents, you are in text conversations with your employees while they are driving on the street? This shows a real lack of respect for our City and its residents.
Had a great time. We did the 45 min tour and our driver was amazing. I believe her was Emily. She gave us the option of how much of a guided tour we would like, we asked for the works, and she was great. She knew a lot of small facts of everything along the way. I would go again just to hear more tour info. The driver had a very good relationship with the horse. You could tell she cared about her and make sure the horse was safe.
Went for a tour on New Years Eve 2020 - my husband and I were so happy to find something that was open! Our driver was kind, courteous, and very knowledgeable and Tommy the horse expertly navigated Victoria's streets smoothly and with ease. Though I've lived in Vic for years, I learned lots during this ride and regret not doing a carriage ride sooner! This is something I recommend to travelers and locals alike.
Sarah (our driver/tour guide) was amazing!!!!!!! Between her expansive knowledge and Ruby's (the horse) wonderful temperment we couldnt have asked for a better time!!! I definitely recommend them to everyone!!!!
Very beautiful tour of Victoria, got 2 see the ocean, and beautiful beacon hill park , give it a try, a must for sure ????
There is an old British style. The cherry blossomes were beautiful.I loved here.
Really enjoyable experience, our carriage conductor (?) Was Taylor and she was great, told us lots of interesting things we didn't know, and we had some good laughs during our 45 minute ride. It's a little pricey but when you consider how expensive it is to feed and maintain horses in a city and transport and train them and that you're also paying for someone to have a livable wage it's not hard to justify.
I lived my best life victoria is a beautiful city tour was amazing
Today we enjoyed the best tour ever with Nichol and her best friend the smart horse Tomy, Nichol is very informative and funny, thanks you made our first in Victoria as amazing more than we expected
Great people, wonderful horses.
Victoria looks more beautiful on a carriage. Their guides are very friendly
The young lady driving our carriage was friendly and very knowledgeable about the local history. Enjoyed it.
I have personally witnessed unprofessional behaviour by carriage employees towards horses and members of the public. This is an outdated industry and has no place in our progressive city. Do not support.
Went on a carriage ride in the summer and it was the highlight of my trip! I would recommend it to anyone, including locals!
These horse carriages are a danger on the city streets, work in extremely inhumane conditions and are a tacky tourist trap. Avoid at all costs.
They worked their horses despite extreme weather conditions. Unethical company cares for profit not their horses.
Loved the tour. Would agree with other review saying that the locals harassing the tour guide was really disappointing. Our tour guide kept her calm and composure and handled it very well! Definitely recommend!
I was travelling with a group of disabilities our train was majorly delayed so as on th train I e mailed to see if we could reschedule they were very accommodating. The ride was wonderful. Only thing I didn't enjoy was when we went to the kiosk to register the lady working at the kiosk pretty much told me the amount I HAD to tip the driver.. I am a very good tipper when the service deserves it how ever I DO NOT feel like the woman working at the desk needs to dictate the amount to be tipped to the driver. The driver how ever was AMAZING!! Very caring to her horse and social :)
Me and the wife did this for our anniversary and we loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone who's looking for something to do while visiting Victoria or looking for a cool gift or learning experience for kids. Looking forward to coming back for more and bring our daughter along too :)
We booked a last minute carriage ride for 10am on BC day. We had a great time with Jack the horse and our driver/tour guide. Jack was sweet, gentle and great at obeying commands. Our tour guide was full of fun information and all around great at engaging with us. Our carriage ride was a wonderful start to our day!
The driver was alpt of fun and very knowledgable
I can’t remember the name of our guide, I think it was Emily, she was nice. I was welcome by the man who was screaming at our cab driver that he needed to move his cab right away because it was “extremely” illegal and unsafe to park his cab against the curb where the horses are suppose to go. Our cab driver even had to tell the worker that he needed to “talk like a man.” I never learned why it was unsafe, but my sister and I were stuck in the cab watching him scream very unprofessionally. We were honestly both scared. Our ride around Victoria was good, and we learned a lot, so that wasn’t really the issue. On our way back, another cab driver parked against the curb. Again, the man working there screams at him and said “you should know better, never park here again, do you understand me? do you understand me?” I think maybe a sign saying no parking would be better than the man running around screaming. I don’t know how the cab drivers were suppose to know not to park there. Very unprofessional and not welcoming at all.
AMAZING!!! Today July 9/18 we had an amazing day!!! My husband and I are from Courtenay and have his parents visiting from Winnipeg. We decided to book Victoria Carraige Tours to take his parents and my Mother on an adventure. This was the very first time for all 5 of us to experience a horse and carraige ride. What an awesome time we had with Hannah our tour guide/driver, she was simply wonderful. Hannah is very professional , she taught us so many historical facts about Victoria. We chose the Beacon Hill Park 45 minute tour, we could have stayed on for a few hours listening/learning from Hannah, what a wonderful lady she is and perfect at what she does. I would recommend Victoria Carraige Tours and Hannah You made our trip worth while! Thank you. (As well Dutchie Hannah’s horse listened to every word she had to say and it was a wonderful ride) Thank you So Much for making our day perfect Hannah. Vivian & Richard Hupé (Courtenay, B.C.)
We had a great experience. Randy (the deiver) and Budweiser, a beautiful Belgian Draft, were lovely. Randy was friendly and shared lots of fun facts about Victoria. The horses all seemed to be well taken care of. All had water and feed at their stations. Very happy with this company and the treatment for their horses.
Unprofessional
It was the perfect end to an amazing night. Hannah (and Herbie) were both awesome. Hannah is a fantastic guide and told the stories of James Bay and old Victoria very well and with great theatricality.
You can walk around the area faster than the horses. Save your $50, your ears from mundane history of the city and declog the roads so that smart tourists and irritable locals can enjoy themselves. May the horses roam free.
Really great thank you Allison and dolly
Had a great time stopping by to meet their horses. You can tell up close that they treat their animals well. Can’t recommend enough!
We enjoyed a lovely tour with JT the horse. The driver was so knowledgeable about the area and very helpful in suggesting other places to visit. The care of the horses is incredible! It was nice to learn that the horses live on a 20 acre farm and they are so happy to do their jobs! We highly recommend this company for visit to Victoria, they truly went above and beyond our expectations!!
Elsie was wonderful!
Our driver was awesome!!! And Tommy the horse was magnificent!
We have mike the horse and the guide was very polite and accomedating. The little ones had a blast. If its wind, I would suggest you bring a jacket
