This tour is worth every penny. The staff know their stuff. They are safety aware and the naturalists on board provide excellent details about the marine life you see while out there. The captain and crew work very hard to gi e the best experience. We saw a humpback breach fully out of the ocean and it is a sight I will remember forever.

From check-in with Erin, Izzy’s witty puns, Heather’s knowledge, and captain Ian’s expert whale tracking, we couldn’t have asked for a more perfect trip. I have been a couple other times with other whale watching companies, and I thought it was normal to spend over an hour (out of a 3 hour trip) just to get out on the water to where the whales are... it was such a relief to be able to spend most of our tour time ACTUALLY watching humpback whales! They even provided free buffs for all passengers during COVID, and the boats were at less than half capacity, which made for the ultimate viewing experience— no competing for views with other passengers! It felt very comfortable and like they were properly following procedure. All in all, I definitely plan on coming back to SpringTide again; I can’t explain just how impressed I was with their services, especially compared to other companies in the harbour.

Had a great time on our tour today! The staff on board the boat (the Marauder) was welcoming, informative and very entertaining. Complimentary hot beverages and warm clothing was unexpected and appreciated. My favourite parts were the cacophonously vocal seals at Race Rocks. I've lived in Victoria for years but have never had the chance to do one of these tours and Springtide made the experience very memorable!

Probably the best whale watching charter in Victoria. Two important tips: Go in the afternoon. They can follow any whales that were spotted in the morning. And when you go, you have to meet them at their office on Wharf Street, not down at the dock, even though that's where you go to get on the boat.

Wow! I never thought I could go whale-watching...I'm afraid of deep water and sea-sickness. When my friend took me on the SpringTide boat, I was a little nervous but REALLY wanted to see whales in the ocean. The crew was fantastic, the trip was exciting and I LOVED every minute of it. The whales were so graceful, so enchanting, and I forgot I was afraid! Amy, one of the crew, offered some wrist bands that help with nausea and I had an easy ride the whole time. What a great experience! Saw a bunch of orca whales! Didn't get great pictures myself but SpringTide has their own photographer on boat who posts pictures on their website and Facebook per ride so you can't get great quality pictures every time even if you don't have a professional camera! Definitely recommend!

Horrific experience. I never write bad reviews, but wow, this place is not only bad but dangerous. They sent us out in dangerous conditions, with a skipper with only two weeks experience and old suits that were not waterproof or felt buoyant. There was not a shot we'd see whales or have anything but a terrible time, but they sent us or anyways. 10/12 passengers demanded refunds and they finally relented after we told them we wouldn't leave their office until they gave us back our money. I've been on many Eco tours and whale watching, but this was something else. They should be investigated by Transport Canada, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Better Business Bureau. I'm ashamed that a Canadian company could do this. We were very concerned for our safety.

Really an experience. I was lucky and the water was very gentle that day. In good weather this is a nice activity. For a 4 hour tour I paid about 70 €, which I think is very fair. (Original) Ich hatte sehr viel Spaß in dem kleinen Boot (12 Personen). Der Guid hat viele Informationen über die verschiedenen Walarten geteilt. Ich habe u.a. Humboldt-, Blau- und Greywale gesehen. Wirklich ein Erlebnis. Ich hatte Glück und das Wasser war an dem Tag sehr sachte. Bei gutem Wetter ist dies eine nette Aktivität. Für eine 4 stündige Tour hab ich rund 70€ bezahlt, was ich sehr gerecht finde.

Was an amazing trip we saw about five or six killer whales and they were very close enough to the boat to take some beautiful videos and pictures. Staff were very knowledgable and friendly. This was a fantastic guided trip, the crew were super friendly and it was really cool because they kept the tour interactive, I spotted some whales and the crew confirmed it and they brought us up nice and close. Our ship had 3 viewing platforms an upper deck, rear and front deck. Honestly a bang on tour and would definitely go with these guys again. Fantastic experience. Saw transient orcas including a big male eating a harbor porpoise, spotting with his head straight out of the water and coming up beside the zodiac and giving us a look. Saw several humpback whales breaching. Geoff the guide was great, and knew where to go and had lots of interesting info. Just being out in the ocean on a 500 HP Zodiac is fun in itself and then add in the whale sightings and it's well worth it.

As a boater and scuba diver local to Victoria, BC, I've been very fortunate to have many opportunities to view wildlife including whales and other marine mammals of all shapes and sizes. My recent excursion with SpringTide was absolutely worth it from the professionalism and knowledge of the office and on board staff to the amenities and comfort aboard the Marauder IV. The fact that we had a great visit with J-Pod (Orca Whales), 4 Humpback Whales and a small group of Pacific White Sided Dolphins in addition to the regulars at Race Rocks (Harbour Seals, an Elephant Seal, Stellar Sea Lions and the ever chatty California Sea Lions) makes the trip all that much more impressive. Thank you to everyone at SpringTide. I look forward to coming out again and will absolutely be referring guests your way.

These guys were great. Originally told me no because I was traveling with my parents (70+) and my 8 year old and we wanted to go in November but when the day came and the weather was good they actually called me. Then we missed the early feet from Vancouver so they waited for us to arrive. Ian was the captain, made us feel all very welcome and safe, they put us in giant full body flotation suits an doff we went. 3 hours out to Race Rock off the point of Vancouver island, out into the middle of the Strait if Juan de Fuca, back to the Trial Islands and back to Port. Lots of sea lions, seals, bald eagles, and even got to chase some porpoises. It was cold... but the suits did a good job of insulating you so it wasn't feeling and a bit wet... But that was all expected right? We were on the open ocean in November!! Highly recommend experience!

Amazing! Spent the morning with captain Ian, he took us out and we saw humpbacks and sea lions, and killer whale. He took the time to talk to us and give us some info on these amazing animals. They work closely with other tour groups to find the animals, This is a once in a lifetime experience and a must.

I have gone a few times, usually quite good, but this last time was honestly the worst whale watching experience I've ever had (i go at least once every summer somewhere on the island). We went out on the zodiac and drove(sailed?) Around 1hr and 20mins in HAIL to see 1 orca for 10 mins then another 1hr and 20ish mins back again in the hail with big choppy waves. This was last year and both of us still have back pain from it. And a scar on my cheek from the hail hitting so hard.. I don't know...maybe radioing out to someone before hand.

This was definitely a highlight of our family adventures this year. Captain Ian knew exactly where to go to find the humpbacks, sea lions, and even some gorgeous orcas. We were treated to an incredible show of nature! Our host- naturalist & marine biologist Izzy was super knowledgeable and told us neat details about each of the animals which made it extra interesting, and was also really funny and gave us lots of laughs :) A first class experience and a first class crew! We had a great time with SpringTide Whale Watching, definitely one of the highlights of our visit to Victoria. These people make sure that you are exposed to as much wildlife as possible during the experience. We chose to go on the Marauder IV yacht but still were able to see just as much as the zodiacs - although going on the zodiaks looks really fun! Great service all the way from booking through to docking.

Awesome place to come whale watching! Picked a very rough day but our Captain did a fantastic job of keeping the boat as stable as possible while also finding us some whales. Sea sickness was inevitable and the Crew handled things super well, consistantly making sure guests were comfortable and safe. Would have liked to stop by Race rocks as the last ppl of we found was in the Reserve, but most people were fairly pooped out after the last sighting so it makes sense! Definitely will be coming back

My friend and I enjoyed an amazing whale watch on October 31, 2020. Our naturalist, Heather, was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic! Captain Ian made sure the boat was well-positioned so we had the best views of the whales. And there was SO much wildlife that day! We saw at least 15 humpback whales and spent lots of time with the different groups. It was a treat to see the Dall's porpoise playing in the boat wake as we travelled. There were so many of sea lions at Race Rocks! I highly recommend SpringTide Whale Watching & Eco Tours to anyone who is considering getting out on the water to enjoy the marine life around Victoria. It is a safe experience and really fun! You'll be glad you went!

Saw quite a few humpbacks yesterday. The crew were awesome asking if I needed gloves or a jacket etc. They were happy to answer lots of questions for all of the customers. Would have liked to have gone more along shore areas on way back to see if we could find orca. Trip said 3.5 + for how long trip would be......it fell short at about 3 hours.spend much time just going straight to where he knew a few humpbacks were and chased them around a bit.....which I thought was no allowed. Four stars for the crew and humpbacks...lost a star with the shortened time and with the lack of searching. Also will add....they said they take pictures so we don't have to...and put on their website Yet I see their website has nothing updated for August never-mind September....wondering if yesterday will even ever have pics....taking it down another star.

My first whale watching trip and a treat for my 6 year old’s birthday. The crew were incredible and so informative and kind to my daughter. They answered her many questions and ensured she could see. We had a great experience with many humpbacks and sea lions. Even if we had seen no whales it would have been worth it for the boat ride, gorgeous scenery, and interesting stories and info. Easy to book online and I called to confirm and received great customer service and excitement for my bringing a child. Very safe on the water and with Covid precautions. Highly recommend!

Your days as a business are numbered. What your doing is wrong and if you have any morals you should quit your job. We recently visited Victoria and we went whale watching with SpringTide Whale Watching & Eco Tours. We were lucky enough to observe a rare humpback whale which I really appreciate. I was surprised and somewhat disappointed by how crowded our boat was. The boat was so full that it was difficult to view the whale much less be able to take pictures. While I will always treasure observing the humpback, I don't think that I would use SpringTide services again. I paid too much to be packed in so tightly.

Boy what an experience, it being the off season we didn't have that high of expectations however the ride we got was beyond magnificent and magical. We arrive and we find that it is the two of us and one other rider, i mean how lucky is that. Was so personal and our tour guys Ian made sure we felt like we were on top of the world. We saw everything we wanted and more, not to mention the backdrop we witnessed as the sun went down was spectacular and if we had only seen that i would of been satisfied but we saw humpbacks, orcas, seals and sea lions. One thing i really loved was how passionate Ian was while doing this, he has been doing it for 7 years and you can just tell his love and passion for this only grows! Thank you springtide and thank you Ian for the amazing experience and knowledge, its been 3 days and im still in awe with the experience and cant even find one singular word to explain how amazing this is and was! I will be back!

I was a little hesitant to go whale watching. So many people have reported trips out with various outfits and not having seen whales. But with tourists in town we decided to give it a go. We selected the large partially covered boat as the weather was iffy. This included hot chocolate and a small bathroom. The crew were great, informative about the waters and lands around us, highlighting all aquatic mammals like sea lions and seals. And then, we saw whales- residents and transient orcas and humpbacks. The crew was so pleased they were hugging. All in all nice crew, comfy boat, great sighting- great memories. recommended

I've been out on a wildlife tour when there isn't as many whale sightings and it was so much fun! We got to see lots of critters and learn some cool things about them and some of the islands in the area. Great staff. Sure knowledgeable and friendly. Really enjoyed the team and trip. We did see a whale but he/she was only just sticking his fin out so no breaching which was sad. Nit the company's fault obviously. Only complaint is for parents out there, don't bring your toddlers! The trip is about 3 hours. At was windy and choppy. Toddlers do not care about whales or the boat ride. They get cranky and scream/cry. They get tired/hungry/sea sick. Just leave them home and come back when they are about 7. I've got kids so not a kid hater at all. I just found a ton of little kids on this trip and by the end they were less than impressed.

Our guide (Geoff) was a pretty fun guy. We did the zodiak trip, which was a lot of fun. We didn't / couldn't get as close to the whales as I had hoped (I guess I've seen too many youtube videos where they're right at you). It's due to respect/rules for the animals - which I'm completely fine with. We saw a full pod of orcas, 2 humpbacks, 1 elephant seal, 1 sea otter, and some various seals and sea lions. Overall, we got everything that was advertised.

Ian was our captain. He was amazing ~ very friendly and knowledgeable. Shared so many interesting pieces of information with our group about the area, the marine life that we saw. We were coming back and had and it seen any orca but, did see plenty of seals, an otter, eagles, and sea lions. He got a radio call that orca had been spotted near where we had already been and, asked us if we wanted to go back. Of course, we all did! We were so blessed to see so many whales! Just beautiful and, he took an extra hour and a half in order for us to have the best experience ever. It was my granddaughter's first time seeing whales and, Ian made sure that it was a special day for everyone on the Zodiac. Highly recommend SpringTide!!

A bit frustrating. The staff were nice and friendly and helpful, and we saw some whales which was good, but a couple things really took the shine off what could have been an otherwise excellent experience. First, they don't have nearly enough washroom capacity at their office, and with all those people trying to get in the washroom it's impossible. So count on spending lot of time wandering the streets trying to get in a restaurant to use their facilities. There were some conflicting staff guidance given on that which was partially responsible I think. Second, when we got down to the boat even though we had signed in nice and early the boat was full, and all the good seats were taken. have no idea where those other folks came from or why they got preferential boarding but at the price we paid for this trip I would have hoped and expected that everyone would have a crack at the good seats. As a result many of the pictures I took go into my album of "the-backs-of-people's-heads" section and not the whale section. Like I say, it was overall a good day but the devil is in the details, and there are some that I think need some addressing.

My husband and I were very excited to take this trip; I was born in Victoria but haven’t lived here since the age of 9; my last visit was at age 17. Having never had the experience to whale watch, it was a new adventure. We booked our trip on the larger boat - the Marauder IV as it is noted to be a smoother ride. Unfortunately, the day was very windy and the water extremely choppy. I was fine for the first hour, but sadly just before we arrived at the place where some orcas were sighted, I became very seasick and was vomiting for over an hour. I wasn’t the only one ... at least half a dozen people had the same problem, I just had it the worst. Being that sick at sea and unable to turn around was one of the worst experiences of my life. And my husband was too busying tending to me to watch the whales. Now, having said all that .... 1) The crew were wonderful. Heather took great care of me (and the other seasick people) by constantly bringing me a fresh bag, napkins, water, and ginger to try to alleviate my symptoms. I think at one point she even spoke to the captain for me about returning soon because I was so violently ill and couldn’t stop throwing up. Kudos to her. 2) Marcus, the naturalist, was great at pointing out the whales so everyone had a chance to see them. 3) The boat itself was comfortable and you had lots of room to walk around. I couldn’t fathom what it would have been like on the smaller boat. Take the larger one - it has a heated inside cabin if needed AND a washroom. It can get quite cool. Dress accordingly in layers. So ... in the final analysis, my recommendations would be: 1) If you get nauseous easily, don’t go unless it is a CALM day. Even if you don’t get sick easily, take some preventative medication (i.e. Dramamine) beforehand. 2) If you have ANY problems with your neck or back, don’t go unless it is a CALM day. The company website doesn’t mention any precautions at all; only their site on Facebook has a precaution for pregnant women, people with neck/back/knee issues regarding going on the small boat. But with the sea as rough as it was, even on the Marauder IV, you took some jolting around. I also have issues with my neck and back and a couple of times got jolted quite badly. I was in a lot of pain when I left the vessel. 3) This is only my personal opinion, but I would never take a small child on this trip. I know how bad it was for me being so sick; it would be worse for a child who wouldn’t be able to understand that you can’t just turn around with all the other customers on the boat. I would say age 10 and up, but, again, just my humble opinion. Thanks for the opportunity to express my opinion. Thankfully, it appears from your feedback that my experience is not the norm, but I think people should know that they MIGHT get sick. And I would ask the management that they please put the same precautionary warning that they have on Facebook on their company website; I booked from this website and did NOT have the chance to see the warning (even though it pertains to the smaller boats). If I HAD seen it, I don’t believe we would have booked the trip. Pros Staff: Kind, friendly, informative. Passenger comfort: Extra jackets on board to help passengers keep warm. Sighting: 5 killer whales. Stayed with them about 30 minutes. Captain did an excellent job of keeping pace with where whales would come up next. Cons Tour Length: 2hrs 45 mins (was advertised as 3-4 hour tour and told likely 3.5 hrs). Hydrophones: Not mentioned by staff onboard, so I asked about listening to whales once we spotted them. Was told wouldn't hear much and not offered the opportunity to try. I would have liked to try for a bit anyways. Other whales: Wish tour operator had searched for other whale types (I believe a grey was also spotted by other operators in the area, but our tour operator didn't try for that one), especially as we returned early.

We were blessed with viewing three humpbacks hunting together for food. One of the humpbacks breached a good eight or more times to the enchantment and delight of all. The people running the boat and doing the commentary as well as the crew were friendly, kind and professional. The boat was immaculate and they thoughtfully offered loans of jackets for those who were not prepared for how cold it can be. I would highly recommend this company, top notch from start to finish.

I took my brother and his family to Whale Watching with Spring Tide on the covered vessel and it was extremely disappointing. The captain did not take us to see the seals and other marine life. All He did was chased the whale. We saw some whales for less than 15 minutes but nothing else. I have taken other whale watching tours with other companies and they took us to race rocks to see seals and sea lions. My ferry ride from Victoria to Vancouver provided even more spectacular views of the whales and marine life. Given the amount we paid for a group of 5 I would expect a little more than a boat ride. If there was a “no star” option I would have chosen it. The only bright spot of this experience is Jennifer one of the marine biologist she was really friendly and informative. The other marine biologist was great as well. The captain is not knowledgeable about Victoria and this region. I will choose other companies in future when I have foreign visitors to Victoria. Staff is very knowledgeable. We saw 1 humpback whale, several Orcas and lots of sea lions. We did enjoy the tour but the boat does not get close to the whales, don’t let the photos fool you. Dropped a couple of stars because the boat was over crowded, considering we are in the 4th wave of the pandemic, probably because they try to pack it in as much as possible. Better instructions should have been given out on where to park. We looked for almost 45 minutes everything we found was for limited upto 2 hrs but we needed 3+ hrs. We kept going around in circles. I was told that an email was sent out to me but I never received anything in my inbox or junk/spam folder. We booked through viator, so not sure if that’s why I didn’t receive anything? Maybe the parking instructions could be printed on the vouchers? We ran from our parking space to the meeting location, luckily they hadn’t left without us!

I am thoroughly disappointed. My husband and I are here on our honeymoon, so on our last day here we figure why not go whale watching... So we found this place, and the website is the most stupid thing ever. So we chose the 1:00 tour as that was the only one to work with our schedule to go home, and be filled out the form online, and chose 1:00. So we took off from Nanoose Bay ( 2 hour drive) to go there. This place opens at 8:30, so you'd think they'd call then.. But nope. Called at 11:30. Just to say "they're full" and can't accommodate us. Their website should ONLY give options on the form to fill out for available times. Not every time possible just to be filled with disappointment. NEVER going to try this place again.

What a great experience! Krista was our skipper and she did a great job explaining where we would see the whales and what they were doing when we spotted them. A pod had just attacked a seal so there were many whales in the area. Krista explained the behaviors of the whales, their cultures, and the differences between different species. My husband and I had come from a cruise and were supposed to be back on board by 8 pm, but our whale watching tour had left a little late and Krista notified us that we definitely would not make it back to the dock we left from until about 8. She offered to drop us off right at the cruise ship dock and thanks to her, we hopped off the boat and made it back to our cruise with only minutes to spare! My husband and I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who is interested in whale watching. Not only were the staff friendly and knowledgeable, they went out of their way to ensure that we did not miss our ship!

I had absolutely the most amazing trip with SpringTide! The staff were friendly and professional - while the whales were going through a small channel where boats couldn't enter, they took us over to Race Rocks to view seals, sea lions, and even a sea otter! All during the time some other whale watching companies were just sitting and waiting for the whales to come out the other side of the channel. Such a great trip - worth every penny!

Had an absolutely horrible experience at this place. I was originally not going to post a bad review, because we did recieve a refund, and we were also promised we would be contacted personally by the manager. Two months later and no call, however I did see her rude comment on a review posted by another party that was on the same boat (a month and a half after it was posted). I want people to be aware that they should be using one of the many other whale watching companies available in Victoria. The day that I took my tour was the day before I was leaving Victoria, I had decided last minute I wanted to go and the only time I could go was in the evening. The other companies had all cancelled their evening trips due to the poor weather forecast, but they said some companies will book the trip and see how the weather is at the time. This place was taking bookings for the evening so I booked it assuming they would cancel if the weather was too bad. So when the time comes, it's a bit dreary and raining but I figure if they say it's fine, then I'm sure it's fine. Now I'm not mad that we got wet, I'm not mad that the suits weren't waterproof as they warned us about that before we left (however there is NO way those suits were new this year, mine had broken straps and was missing the hood), I'm also not mad that we didn't see whales (again, we were warned). What I'm mad about is the fact that after the driver of the boat realized there was 5 foot waves we were driving through, he didn't turn around and cut his losses. The boat was flying through the air and hitting the water so hard people were being thrown into the person in front of them, people were screaming in fear. I'm sure he knew what he was doing, but this is obviously a boat full of people with very little experience on the water, who were obviously very scared, some people were in tears! My back and neck were sore for days, it was like whiplash. and when we got back to their office, we were told we would get standby for a trip that is not full in the future. We asked to speak with the manager and the girl working at the time had her on the phone, but she refused to talk to us or give us a refund. She tried to say that she would contact us by phone. We were finally issued refunds after 10 of the 12 people refused to leave the office. And after all that, we were told we would still be contacted, and two months later, I have recieved nothing except for rude comments basically calling us crybabies. And if it boils down to "well weather is unpredictable", the weather was terrible when we left, and it should have been cancelled, like the other more reputable companies decided to do. All I was hoping for was an apology, and the manager is refusing to admit that driving a boat of terrified passengers around for three hours is something that shouldn't happen again. Please please spend your money elsewhere!

Price point - on par or better than the other tour companies. They guaranteed a sighting or they'd rebook you for another time. The captain was very informative and offered up advice for the best viewing. I recommend the smaller boats and sitting either upfront for a wild ride or in the back for a big splash
