We had a wonderful time looking for whales but unfortunately the whales didn't cooperate with us on this cruise. The staff on board was awesome answering questions and explaining things to everyone on board. Already planning on going back next year with our free passes we received for not seeing any whales. Thank you for the hospitality and see you next year.

S Norman

Had an amazing experience here.

Stephen Kelley

A great team showing us a great time on the water, they happily extended the trip and route to make sure we saw whales. We can't wait to go again and wouldn't dream of being there without sharing the experience with our friends and family.

Great and Amazing :)

Our excursion with Mariner Cruises was both educational and exciting — we saw two humpbacks and a minke whale, plenty of seals, and lots of seabirds. The staff on the boat make sure everyone has a front row seat for the whales and you can really tell how knowledgable and familiar they are with the environment/animals. They even passed around drinks and snacks on our way back to the island. We’ll definitely be returning to Brier Island and to Mariner Cruises!

Tracy Veinot (History Hunter)

They created an amazing experience, a memory that will stay with us forever.

Beautiful little place great place to visit

Trevor Demain

Wonderful experience for the entire family! A must do/see. The staff aboard are absolutely wonderful! They are so knowledgeable in all areas of ocean life. The sea was rough and choppy when we took our tour, which was the only downfall to the entire trip. The vigorous rocking of the boat made our toddler very seasick but the staff was so helpful and kind, accommodating us in every way they could, even helping us clean up! The rates are wonderful and like promised, we were able to see multiple humpback whales. The captain even extended our tour so we could watch them longer! Everyone was offered a spot against the railing to see the whales as close up as possible. We could not have chosen a better group of people to show us the whales, seabirds, and ocean. They made us feel like family, and taught us so much! Thank you Penny, Amy, Clayton, and Chris, we will recommend you to any and everyone! Xx

Cindy Manser

Great experience. We saw 50 whales during the tour. ( 3 different places before we had sightings)

One of the best experiences we've ever had! Begins with a detailed explanation of how to get there (you will need it!), continues with clear signs and a neat office on Brier Island. The ship is all clean and runs smooth. But most of all, our guide, Amy was simply fantastic! Her compassion, respect and enthusiasm for whales (and all living things, for that matter) is contagious! She made it not only enjoyable but also educational. Lastly, we were lucky to have whales come so close so many times. They literally gazed at us with curiosity.

M

Friendly, professional, and helpful staff. Unfortunately, didn’t see anything on our tour. We got a free pass to go again.

Steve Prosser

Even though we had a foggy day, the crew worked extra hard to find whales and provided us with a fantastic outing. Thanks for an excellent day

Larry Stultz

Went out with Mike, Penny, Amy and the rest of the crew today, and it totally exceeded our expectations. Not only professional and smart, these people are absolutely committed to providing the top experience for all of us! Whales, education, and friendliness. Topped off with hot beverages and cookies on the way back to port. Awesome!

Being in this place was an unforgettable and unique experience. But I thought I would see the whales much closer. I paid for the most expensive tour and on the smallest boat precisely for that and it turns out that the biggest and cheapest boat got much closer.

Peter Sickles (Peter Sickles)

Chester Cheng

Super friendly and knowledgeably crew. Location of this Tour may be a little bit off the map for some people. But trust me driving here is super fun. Great experience for the whole family. Love the hot cocoa they made for us after sea wind blow you for hours.

Shelley Luddington

We stayed at Mariner Guest House and went on one of their fabulous whale tours. The staff is super friendly and really knowledgeable about the whales, other ocean life, the island and the area. I loved how the workers had 100% respect for the whales! "It is our privilege not a right to see them!"

Valerie Laframboise

4h at sea and we didn't see anything :(

Randy Swigart

Took my 88 year old Mom visiting from Alberta to see the whales on the Bay of Fundy. Saw fin and Humpbacks on a very warm and beautiful day.

Alain Jr Lefebvre

What a fantastic trip to Brier Island! My wife, 3 year old and myself made the drive from Peggy's Cove and took the 4:30 cruise out. It was a beautiful August evening and we were lucky to see dozens of humpbacks. The staff were professional and extremely knowledgeable, which made the experience not only stunning, but educational as well. The boat was safe and comfortable for toddlers and we all enjoyed the trip! If you are debating between Cape Breton or Brier Island - think no more. Brier Island is the place to go if you want the best chance of seeing whales. Enjoy!!

kayla docter

Awesome whale watching tour! We were lucky enough to see two humpback whales and a few different kinds of birds. The crew was amazing and shared a lot of knowledge with everyone. I really liked Amy's show and tell at the end of the tour.

Carol Anne Roy

We were quite Lucky and got to see a lot of whales!! Staff was pleasant, very informative and Wanted to ensure we enjoyed the trip. The boat was clean and confortable. Cookies and hot beverages were served. The only négative is that we were a lot on the ship, but I guess we always are... It is VERY cold. Dress warm. It May seem far, but it is the best place to go for whale watching, its worth the trip!

Enrique NorisBarrera

(Translated) Excellent team very experienced to locate and see the passage of whales, highly recommended. (Original) Excelente equipo muy experimentados para localizar y ver el paso de las ballenas, muy recomendables.

Matthew Tyndall

Great tour guides and wonderful tour. The whales were great. Tour was long, but worth is to breathe the fresh ocean air and see all the sea life. We saw the Bay of Fundy Atlantic Salmon farms and a day later we were in Ohio reading "Bay of Fundy Atlantic Salmon" on the menu in a seafood restaurant.

Bill Condie

I did a double: Penny's guesthouse and boat Both were terrific!! And I got great photos too Penny was a dream on the boat, looking after everone

Very welcoming, friendly, and fun! We chose them based on their high reviews and see why they deserve it. They take time to chat to and welcome everyone. We saw several whales ???? during the tour! Very stable and lovely boat that accommodate about 40 people. They also gave us hot chocolate/coffee/tea. There's a bathroom on the boat as well.

Steve Dudka

Great experience...dress warm

Steve Outhouse

The team at Mariner Cruises is excellent, and we have had multiple excellent experiences with their whale watch tours. The guides are extremely knowledgeable, and are truly great at engaging with the group. They're especially good at holding the interest of younger guests during the "quiet" times between sightings with extra materials they have on board. They respect nature, and get you close enough to see well, while keeping appropriate distance to let the animals do their thing in their natural habitat. As a family we highly recommend Mariner Cruises.

What an incredible company to go whale watching with! Family owned, they have been operating since 1994. The owner Penny and family were on board, telling us about the whales and other species with passion. They are experts in whales, and where to find them! I am jealous - I would love a job that I could be so passionate about! Have a look at the pics - we certainly saw whales close up! I would thoroughly recommend.

Christopher Tropea

(Translated) Great team that made it possible to experience humpback whales up close. Mega nice and a lot of information. (Original) Super Team die es möglich gemacht haben Buckelwale hautnah zu erleben. Mega nett und viele Informationen.

Edouard Gariepy

Absolutely amazing experience with Penny and the crew. Professionnal and attentive people who really care about the quality of your experience, your safety and most of all, about the whales. Very impressed with the experience, the crew took the time to give us a long and extended look with absolutely no rush. In a 5 hour trip (back and forth) we saw half a dozen humpback whales, dolphin units, puffins, a minke whale and even a small shark! Clean bathroom on the ship, upper deck open to passengers if weather/water/Clayton allows it. Regarding covid: temperature check before you even get on the ship, mask mandatory, sanitize hands before embarking. Highly recommend it!

Jennifer McKay

My husband booked us and from the beginning we had a wonderful experience. They were very informative and upfront in case of cancellation, but also very friendly and personable (I overheard the phone call). They gave us information and timeline of the ferries to get there and general directions which made things much easier to know what to expect. We showed up to load on the boat and watched them thoroughly clean and wipe everything down. Once we were on the boat they were very clear about safety and expectations, taking turns, being respectful, etc. The staff interacted with the customers and it was very obvious they were passionate about whales. They were out of this world with the kids on the tour with not only education but making sure they had a fantastic time. A special thanks to the staff member who was also a teacher who really took the time to share her passion with my kids. She really made the trip extra memorable! We very highly recommend. Our only regret was not staying on the island because it was lovely there and the locals were very friendly.

Jade Gibson

We saw whales and a seal. The crew were fantastic and knowledgable. My friend also became sea sick on the tour and they were very kind and helpful 100% reccomend going whale watching with them.

Awesome whale watching tour adventure. Kids had a blast. My first time seeing whale up close in the wild. Exhilarating experience. The tour operators were great and the boat was spacious. We did have great weather for the trip. Tour guide Amy was informative and entertaining and energetic.

The relationship that the people on the boat have built with the whales through respect and understanding is really something amazing. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. Awesome experience and amazing people.

Tianlei Zhang

They chased the whale for very long time. very good experience. highly recommend.

This is a very professional family run business. Led by Penny, the owner (who is very friendly and informative), they make the experience as much like a celebration of whales as an exploration of them. When we left at 12.30 there was plenty of fog, but by the time we reached the whale viewing areas, the sun was out and the sea was very calm There were about 25+ people on the boat but it did not seem crowded. There was plenty of rail room to view the whales when they were spotted. We were lucky and viewed a pod of 5 humpbacked whales, which is very unusual. We returned about 4.15PM. FYI - in addition to Mariner, went out the next day in a Zodiac with Ocean Explorations (we figured 2 days would increase the certainty that we would see whales). Though different in terms of types of vessels used, both are equally excellent.

Fabulous family run whaling tour! Staff were very friendly and informative. And the whales were breath-taking!!! Very close, and got to see all kinds of activity. An experience that will last a lifetime!!! can't say enough good things about this tour company.

Claire de la Motte

Unbelievable experience from start to finish. Group guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and informative We also had an amazing experience surrounded by beautiful hump back whales. We could not have asked for more.

Jeremie LeBlanc

Great trip, seen lots of whales, very knowledgeable crew members, boat is very steady, the boat ride is 2-3 hours long, bring extra clothing as it gets cold in the bay. Make sure you are sitting on the Captain side of the boat (if you’re looking forward it’s the right hand side) as once there is a whale spotted the captain will always keep it on his right so he can see how close the boat is for safety.

Natasha Fillmore

We had an awesome tour with Mariner! We had a tremendous 40 min experience with 4 humpback who seemed to play around our boat. Despite being a full boat, we felt COVID- and water-safe free while time. Penny and her crew were great!

Anna Hab

The whole crew went above and beyond!!! Very sensitive to the whales’ safety and needs . Such an amazing experience!! Thank you sooo much for such a incredible whale tour

cheyenne mackenzie

It was my family and I's first whale watching trip, all the crew was amazing. I honestly didnt have high hopes in seeing anything but once we got going about 15 mins in seen some dolphins and a whale. We got to see a mom and baby and the baby wa s very energetic and we seen nunerous of times the whale breaching it was absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend going here and getting a tour with them.

Gill Peters

Amazing time! Penny and Amy were excellent at keeping the crowd informed on what we were seeing as the magical whales danced all around us! Something everyone should experience!

When planning for our family trip to Nova Scotia, a whale watching tour was a top "to-do." When researching tours in the Brier Island area there were several operators to choose from. After reading the reviews and doing some additional research we decided to book with Mariner Cruises and they did not disappoint. During the three hour tour we saw six different humpback whales that each put on their own show. You cannot appreciate just how massive these beautiful creatures area until you are right next to them. Peggy and the rest of the crew were extremely knowledgeable about the area, the sea life we saw, and had a true respect for the water. They were all responsive to any questions and did a fantastic job at making sure everyone on the boat was comfortable, felt welcome, and enjoyed the experience. When planning, I was not really sure what I was looking for in my preferred whale tour provider other than a boat that my family and I felt safe on, and to make sure we saw some whales. Now, after looking back, I would say there are three areas where the Mariner Cruises staff excelled and I would suggest considering these areas when researching a whale watch tour. 1. Respect for the water/ocean - my family and I love and respect the outdoors and the environment. When going on a whale tour it was important that the group we went with shared this respect and that it came through in their marketing materials. Our goal was not just to see whales, but to learn about them as well. I was amazed at how passionate the Mariner staff were about educating the tour group about the sea life we saw. This respect comes through on the Mariner Cruises website and is evident in other reviews from past whale watchers. 2. Welcoming/communicative staff - from the time we walked on to the boat, the entire staff made us feel extremely welcome. We were made to feel not just like "tourists" but students learning about the Bay of Fundy. Peggy kicked the tour off with the rules and expectations of the boat which made clear that they put safety above all else. Throughout the three hours there was ongoing discussion, conversation and education about what we were seeing. When booking our tour, I spoke with representatives from Mariner Cruises twice and had several questions, they were happy to answer and always provided me with the information I needed. 3. Finding/locating whales - this is the goal of any whale watching tour, but of course there is no guarantee. Peggy was up front with this from the beginning. If we did not see a whale during the three hours, she would offer us a free pass. We wound up seeing a whale no longer than 15 minutes into the tour. The staff know where to look for the whales in the Bay of Fundy but there is no guarantee, so it was nice to know that we could have a second chance if do some reason we didn't see anything. I would highly recommend Mariner Cruises if you are looking to find a whale watching tour in Nova Scotia. We will certainly join them for another tour if we are in the area again.

Ryan Perry

My wife and I had an amazing time on our trip to go see the whales. The offices easy too access we were reserved and ready to go in no time. Little store next door to hang out, grab beer and walk to park across the street to enjoy the amazing views of Bay of Fundy. The trip was one of the most memorable experiences. Birds, seals, and yes even whales! We were up close (but respectful) on a small boat with excellent views from both sides. Mother, a child abed her friend along with 2 males lurking beyond. We loved it!

Jaswinder Singh

You are awesome Penny! Thanks for accommodating us at the last hour.

Amazing service and guide (penny). We saw amazing whale and they served hot chocolate and coffee in the way back. Dress warm and recommend touque or jackets.

Steve B

Such a great experience. First off, the drive from Halifax and 2 ferries are a nice start to the day with beautiful scenery much of the way. We checked in with Mariner's office and then went to the Lighthouse Cafe for a nice lunch which is a short drive away, just around the corner from the wharf. Once on the boat, our trip became foggy and cold (despite being 25 and clear on land) so be sure to dress appropriately. The crew was fantastic, the vessel was comfortable, and the coffee and cookie were a nice touch to cap off an amazing day. Keep in mind that no one is ever guaranteed to see a whale on these tours... it's not like visiting a place that has them locked up in a tank. That said, we saw 5 humpback whales, a pod of dolphins, and a few species of seabirds. Excellent value for the money with this tour and would highly recommend to everyone.

Caras Closet

The boat was over crowded to the point where not everyone could sit. We saw 3 whales which was nice but the tour guides didnt have a mic so we couldnt hear anything about them. They were friendly but the experience wasn’t a great one so we will definitely not be back/not be recommending.

Kelly Kestler

Rob MacCara

No whales this time, but plenty of basking sharks!

Stephen Hoover

We saw multiple whales at one place. Crew is very nice and friendly

Ashok Chauhan

Cindy Bezant-Titus

Friendly customer service from Laura in the office to owner Penny, Captain Chris and all crew on the boat. Very stable, seaworthy boat.

Deborah Hunt

This whale watching trip spoiled me forever! We rode straight out to 2 different pods of whales and the momma humpback let us babysit her little (huge) one! The baby (still huge) flipped over on its back and waved its fin at us 15 feet from the boat. Watched 4-5 whales before moving to another pod. Rode away while waving bye to the whales, back within 2 hours to catch the ferry. BUT WE DIDN’T. Took a quick detour to the Brier Island Lodge and had the best dinner ever. I actually wondered where did this chef come from?! Strawberry Basil Cheesecake? Wait, what?! Best day ever.

Samiah Alam

It was okay, not as spectacular as I had wished.

Michele Comeau

Such a great experience

Ken Gray

Amazing! Made our holiday. 10+ whales. Knowledgeable and friendly guides.

This was a great group of people to go with. We drove in from Jaggars Point Oceanfront Campground, and this was a great adventure. We got the full treatment. We saw 5 humpback whales. Friendly, informative crew. They worked hard to find the whales and when they found them they gave them all the room they needed. We were able to stay on the whales for a while. They even shared the location with other boats.

From booking to departing, first class tour. New boat, Captain Craig and crew, Jesse and Pasquale were number 1! Worth every dollar!

Posting this to help anyone like us who spent a lot of time looking at Google reviews to choose who to whale watch with. We chose Mariner Cruises and we did not regret it! The drive to Brier Island really is an adventure in itself with the 2 ferry crossings. The host was friendly and knowledgeable, you could tell she LOVESSSS what she does. I did learn a lot about whales that day! We went in mid September...our boat ride was quite long until the crew found whales - but we could tell they weren't going to let us be disappointed. We were lucky enough to see puffins, porpoises and dolphins, 1 shark, and we spent a significant amount of time with this mom humpback whale, her baby, and a large male. They stopped the boat, we were so close we could feel their mist and smell their breathe. While with these 3, I looked out and in the distance there was whales all around us in the distance - about 15 I could count! It was truly an awesome day. The only downside I can mention is how many passengers there were - it felt pretty crowded. However, they did have to cancel the previous day's trip due to weather so we had the previous days guests onboard with us...so understandable.

Jennifer Bowden

We went out yesterday and even though it was foggy and took some time the crew made sure we saw the whales. The crew is so informative and excited for us to see the whales. Us they serve hot chocolate and cookies! Great for kids and adults. We will be doing it again for sure..

Walter Chapman

Boat safety, courteous staff, excellent whale watching company, very professional.

Fraser Robinson

Even though we could only see 40m though unseasonably heavy fog Mariner Cruises still found us three whales & we had a great time! Crew was friendly, skilled & well informed.

(Translated) Mariner Cruises consists of an expert and very passionate family, who, with respect for the animals in their environment, spot whales and seabirds in the Bay of Fundy. One of the most beautiful and special holiday experiences ever. Thanks family and whales, for this more than wonderful memory !! (Original) Mariner Cruises bestaat uit een deskundige en zeer gepassioneerde familie, die met respect voor de dieren in hun leefomgeving, walvissen en zeevogels spotten in de Bay of Fundy. A very professional, informative, and safe operation. We saw so many whales and dolphins, it was like winning the whale watching lottery! Luck + skill made for a wonderful day! I note that every passenger on board was masked due to covid, and all of the staff. I think they are doing a great job of keeping us all safe during Covid while running their tours. Do not hesitate, one of the best experiences I have ever had in Nova Scotia! An awe inspiring and joyous day seeing these beautiful creatures!

Dale DeVan

Exciting

Natacha Boivin

Great service. Very personable and people oriented. You can tell Peggy does this for the love of whales and sharing that with people.

Terrance & Megan Taylor

What an incredible team of professionals! Even though we had a tour on a really foggy day, they still worked hard to find whales and keep us entertained with information about whales. Despite the fact that they can't control the weather or wild animals, they're very good at what they do! After searching for an extra hour and a half (just for us to have a good experience), they found us a young whale to follow and take pictures of with a beautiful sunset in the background!

Susan Keech

Absolutely fantastic!! You have no idea the thrill you get when you see your first blow! Penny, Becky & the rest of the crew are so knowledgeable & enthusiastic they encourage questions & they still get a thrill from it too! I'll be back next year. And I know my brother & sister-in-law won't go with any other company. THANKS!

Walter Higgins

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon cruise with Penny and the crew ... Highly recommend!

Tanya Tuttle-Comeau

No whales for us but that's mother nature. Friendly people. Great, clean safe experience even though it was a rainy day

Patti Snair

Wow! Amazing and Magical experience!

Jono C

My family and I have done both the boat and Zodiak tours and have seen whales all but one time. Have gone about 5. This time around was weather related so no one's fault. The weather was just too choppy for the whales to be seen and also to spend much time on the surface. The Zodiak boat in the rough seas was a very exciting time in itself though so we always have a great time.

Jeremy Wallace

All of the crew was very knowledgeable and passionate about whales. There were several kids on the boat and the crew took time to explain how whales eat, even bringing out props. I would recommend sun block, and anti-nausea patches. I generally do not get sea sick but as we have to stop to observe whales, the rocking boat is more noticeable.

We have gone whale and bird watching more than 30 times over the last four years with never a disappointing tour. The owner Penny, captain Chris, and crew Clayton Amy and Bethany are exceptional in their love knowledge and skills in finding amazing showings of humpbacks, minke, finn, and once the rarest sighting of the endangered North Atlantic Right whale!!! The care taken to provide the safest ride and the great respect for the whales is second to none. They are always entertaining and share information about whales and birds throughout the tour. We highly recommend them.

Jennifer Furletti

This was outstanding and the highlight of our trip. We saw three humpback whales up close. Saw them drive and slap their fins. Amazing

10/10 What an experience! Crew was super friendly and helpful! First trip was a 4:30 booking and sadly, there was lots of fog. Not the crews fault at all. We ended up seeing one juvenile humpback (which I thought was awesome!) but then Peggy (the owner) said that since it wasn't good enough, anybody who wanted to come back in the morning could. So we did! And it was amazing. Two humpbacks super close to us, one went under the boat. Got amazing pictures (not uploaded yet). The crew worked very hard to find us whales and were very courteous and friendly. 10/10 would do again!

This is a very good trip to take, all the staff are very well educated on the whale population, and they are all very nice people. I really enjoyed the trip . Thank You for having my family on board.

The Admiral, the captain and the crew are absolutely professional and very knowledgeable. The entire time we were on the boat, the crew's only concern was that we were enjoying ourselves. The scenery is out of this world, and we saw many hump-back whales. I would highly recommend this tour! July 4, 2018 was the day of our tour.
