Beachcomber's Clam Boil on Points East Coastal Drive, Cardigan, PEI was our favourite adventure on our family trip! And with the great things to do and the awesome people we meet each day in PEI, that's saying alot. Host Jim is the kind of person who instantly makes you feel welcome, and carefully explains (with lots of laughter amongst our group) how to dig for clams and about conservation. Our 5 year old attached himself like a barnacle to Guide Tristan, who was very patient with his high-energy participation. We found many clams and even some oysters in the shallow water and beach and later Jim cooked them to perfection. We even ate oysters we found right on the beach!! It doesn't get any fresher. We had also added on lobster to our Beachcombers Clam Boil tickets, and Jim includes PEI mussles too, so we were really full (and really happy). Extras like homestyle potato salad and butter buns were tasty too. This is an authentic local "farm" to table (river to table) experience, in a natural outdoor environment. It is not a prepackaged high-maintenance haute-cuisine tour. So if real fun with real people is what you are looking for, you will love it. Need some agility to climb down and back up a staircase to/from water. And like the website says, bring watershoes, sunscreen and bug spray. We had a windy day so bugs weren't an issue. Check out the pics of the massive blue fin tuna on the wall in the dining terrace -- Jim has some stories that will blow your mind. Thanks for sharing your home with us Jim!
