(Translated) We did the whale watching tour. The tour itself was nice, only the priorities along the way were a bit strange and didn't justify the price. First we drove out for an hour on the Pacific, where the tour guide / boat driver told stories that had little to do with animals. Then we were 30 minutes at a sea lion spot, where a lot of sea lions were clearly visible. At this point the boat driver hit a rock in the water with the boat - which apparently surprised him as much as we were. He cursed very loudly (“Oh shit”, “Oh my god!”) And looked a bit panicked himself. He didn't explain this to the passengers, he only said something when asked several times, but smiled away (“There is no problem”). We then drove on as if nothing had happened, but you could tell that he was insecure himself and was wondering how bad the impact really was. On the further way we saw a sea otter before we drove to the place with the whales. Overall, we only spent about ten minutes there, as the rest of the time had already been wasted. Only then did he look at the boat's engine, but apparently came to the conclusion that we can continue. Then, however, the boat's engine did not start, which obviously worries him. But he continued to tell us that everything was fine. In the next sentence he also said that he wanted to call for help by radio. By chance, the engine started again (luckily), which meant we were able to drive back - which we were also very happy about, despite the short time we spent in whale watching! Our conclusion: All in all, it's a nice tour, but the price-performance ratio wasn't right for us at all. And the boat captain did a lot to worry us. He obviously couldn't handle the situation at all.

Went kayaking to the big trees on Mears Island. Great trip. Friendly guides and staff!

Rodolphe Vaillant

Amazing. You can't go wrong with those guys. Guides are always so enthusiastic and knowledgeable ( I went twice with different guides) they are also very flexible and adapt their trip to let you see as much as possible things. I recommend the trip with the hot spring it's more expensive but totally worthwhile! Even if you're unlucky and don't see many whale you will be mind blown by the other wildlife and gorgeous scenery :)

Thank you Remote Passages for a fabulous whale watching experience. This was the best family trip we've ever taken! The kids are still talking about it.

The guide, Sam, was awesome! He was genuinely interested in leading the kayaking and hiking tour of big tree trail and was a friendly knowledgeable guide.

I have never been whale watching but we were told to be in great luck as we have seen several orcas on our trip! Our guide was very friendly and answered all questions and told us lots of interesting stuff about the animals and nature! Great staff at the office as well! Make sure to book a trip with those guys if you are in Tofino!!

We went there this summer, it was the last days of our Vancouver trip! And a real beautiful way to finish it. We book a kayak trip for the rainforest island. And I can just say on thing, I was speechless! First the owner, who have the same family name as me, we talk a bit about that ahah, was just so kind! After that we meet our guide, I don't remember her name, but she was really nice with us, and so much good fact she shared with us... So after we meet her and she show us the security and how to use the kayak on sea we departed on the ocean with her. We where 4 friends and her. After just some minutes we had the chance to sea Eagles really close to us, the views were just so great and amazing so many island... we couldn't take picture because all our stuff where on the waterproof bag. So everything it's on my head for ever. Finally we reached the rainforest Island. So to explain its an island with really really old trees! The trail leads to a sign marking “Hanging Garden.” From the decaying trunk of a 1,700years old, five-and-a-half-metre-wide red cedar tree, one of the oldest trees of Canada! A Really giant tree! It's a really easy hiking but so beautiful. And finally we went back to tofino in kayak using a different way, because it's the Ocean and there is tide.

(Translated) Fantastic 'bear watching'. 7 bears including 3 young ones. Very close and yet safe. Beautiful boat trip through the fjords of Vancouver island. Also encountered a few seals. Friendly staff. (Original) Fantastisch 'bear watching'. 7 beren gezien waaronder 3 jonkies. Vriendelijk personeel.

(Translated) Great "Hot Springs" tour done! Hot Springs tour also contains a piece of "whalewatch". During the boat trip to the Hotsprings, extensive searches were made and stopped at Wildlife. We have seen almost all animals (Only no orcas). Were there June started and had a quiet boat (5 people). Hot springs also great and very hot! You don't last long in the water. I do recommend that you bring water shoes, it is just a little easier to walk over the rocks. Also protects your feet better against heat. During our visit it was fairly quiet at the hot springs (thankfully). (Original) Geweldige "Hot Springs" tour gedaan!

Had one of the best days in our life!! Thank you for showing us bald eagles, whales, bears, sea otters and so much more!! Unforgettable Tour!

Dan Packer

Did a whale watching trip in the Zodiac with Rumi. He was an awesome guide and super knowledgable. We say humpbacks and a grey and he made sure to take us around the island where all the sea lions hang out at. He was also just genuinly a good guy. The registation and check in was quick and painless and we were on the water in no time.

Thomas Girling

Went in feeling inquizative and got chatting. Booked to see bears on a boat tour leaving in 15 minutes. Super friendly staff and the tour lived up to expectations and exceeded them. Check them out.

George G. P.

We paid to see some whales and this adventure shop delivered. The guide was a First Nations local who appeared to have the knowledge of a marine biologist in regards ro whales and sea-lions. The staff was very curteous and knowledgeable. Well setup and great location. The boats are well equipped with emergency devices, radios and state of the art sonar to help them navigate the rock-sprinkled rough Tofino waters. We have been whale watching with them in the past, I would not go to see whales again but bears gone salmon fishing.

We booked the hot springs tour and it was worth every penny!! Our guide Jeff was amazing, he knows his stuff! On the way we saw 4 grey whales, one being a calf, and you couldn't ask for better scenery! The hot springs were great, a little crowded at first but the way the tours are staggered, they cleared out fairly quickly. (We brought water shoes with us and while it's not completely necessary, I'd highly recommend it) Our kids are 16 and 19 but it would be just as much fun for a younger family as well, there were lots of little ones there enjoying themselves! We left at 10am and we're back at 5, an awesome way to spend the day! Thanks again to Jeff and the staff, it was a pleasure!

Katelyn O'Neill

Me, my sister and my friend went out for a kayaking excursion with Emily yesterday and we had a blast!! Emily was extremely helpful and knowledgeable during our tour and we felt very safe for the entire 3 hour trip to Meares Island and back. We saw lots of jellyfish, starfish and bald eagles - so cool. The rainforest walk through the island was an added bonus. Highly recommend!!!

My friend and I had an amazing experience with Remote Passage on a Hot Spring Cove trip about two weeks ago. Our guide Leif (spl?) was professional, thorough and enthusiastic in showing us all the wildlife along the way -- we saw 3 humpback whales and at one point they surrounded our boat, and every time we tried to leave there would be a showing.... and it's not even a whale-watching tour! We also saw sea otters, sea lions, bald eagle, and so many wonderful things. None of us wanted the tour to end. Highly recommend! Thank you Leif and Remote Passage for a wonderful day.

Great service!! Book ahead!

Absolutely worth every penny! We chose to do the Hot Springs Cove trip. Reservations: right from the start, this company performed flawlessly. When I called at 8:15am, the man (whom I later found out was the owner) who took my call was friendly, knowledgeable, and straight forward. I had called two other companies who were kind enough but they seemed to be just wanting to answer my questions and do the bare minimum. Perhaps I just picked the wrong morning to call. He laid out also what we needed to bring with us on our trip as well as overall he told us our duration and the fact we would be on the water with many stops along the way to look for wildlife. Arrival: the lady who greeted my wife and I at just before 12:30pm certainly was friendly and took her time to fix us up with our legal paperwork as well as show us a map of where we were going. She even made eye contact with other customers that came in as well as acknowledged them. Very good example of exceptional customer service! Outbound trip to Hot Springs Cove - Everything ran like clockwork. We left just before 1pm as planned. Randy, our captain was knowledgeable and truly wanted to us to have the best experience possible. Clearly he is an experienced captain as well as tour guide! He piloted the Kodiak in a quick and safe manner at all times. He showed us a Gray whale; some other wildlife as they came upon us and was truly excited to show us his part of the world! Hot Springs Cove - arrived within 2 hours after departing from Tofino and we were all given three hours to 'hike' to the hot springs as well as to return. The trail was nicely maintained and surprisingly, it was entirely made up like a boardwalk so it was easy for almost everyone to access the Hot Springs. The Hot Springs were magnificent and both my wife and I felt like we had ample time to enjoy the surrounding forest as well as soak in the natural hot pools. Return trip to Tofino - Randy took us back through some interior passages with calmer waters to search for Starfish, Bald Eagles, Black bears, and other wildlife. Soon, we found ourselves back in open water searching for whales. Randy had heard there was a sighting of a pod of Orcas! What a precious priceless experience as we saw this pod of Orca whales on four separate occasions as Randy was tracking their progress with other captains who were still out with us. We arrived back to Tofino just after 8pm! Such a priceless experience! We will be back. My wife who rarely expresses her emotions was just giddy like a young child from the trip. This company has a solid process they follow and thanks for a wonderful day! It was worth EVERY PENNY!

Our last change to see a bear before we go home....and Bingo! 3 black bears and a eagel! Thanks.

Remote Passages has an excellent variety of day trip from Bear and Wale watch tours to longer excursions to remote hot springs or sea kayaking. They are very friendly and professional.

Well worth the low price for the views you could never see otherwise

Just got back after the Hot springs tour today and to be honest, I have never been on such a great boat tour in all my time of travelling! Aaron was our tour guide and he was very knowledgeable about the local wildlife, the culture, and the coast itself. Not only did we go to the Hot Springs but we saw whales, an eagle, a bear, starfish, and anemones. We also got fantastic views of the landscape. Highly recommend!

Alma Vapsvaite

I really did enjoy the kayaking trip! Our guide Mike was very knowledgeable and friendly. Also, we were provided with multifunctional seamless wear, which we used as a facial mask. So, these guys do respect the current situation and make the kayaking experience safe. I sincerely recommend this place!

Don, the owner of Remote Passages, is an ethically responsibly and environmentally conscious owner/operator, who walks the walk of ecotourism done right. Of the operations in Tofino you could choose to give your business to, Don is among the best. His office may be a bit off the main drag (which is kind of a joke, because that means literally 2 blocks away, right on the water), but take the time to seek him out and you can be assured of an amazing experience.

Good service and kind staff. Nothing to complain. We did a 2.5h kayaking trip by the islands. It was beautiful and we had all the support we need from our guide, Sam. I recommend.

Great experience. Fantastic tour guide who really knew his stuff. Lovey staff in general. Saw whales, sea lions, sea otters, ospreys, eagles and puffins. The islands surrounding the Tofino are all breathtaking and I can’t help but think, ‘Damn, what a place to live/have a house’ + ‘Imagine a house on that secluded island’. I highly recommend.

Ernst Boertje

We came for the bears. These people know where to find them. Friendly staff. Great tour through the inlets to observe the wildlife.

Friendly team and great tour up to the hotspring ...

(Translated) Had booked the "Wahle watching tour". And it was just terrific. Very competent skipper, who told us all kinds of flora and fauna knew. She indicated that she loved her job. Only the boat trip in the Zodiak over the rough sea was worth the money. In addition, we were lucky enough to see gray whales and orcas. All in all, a very successful and instructive trip. Okay, We got some Whale Action so 5 stars for that alone. This company was very professional, their prices were great and the staff member Alex was an excellent guide. A good 2 1/2 hours plus on the water with great wildlife spotting spots makes me want to go again. I recommend sightseeing with Remote Passages. At least the Whale Watching Tour.

We did the Clayoquot Explorer kayak tour and has the most amazing time. Emily, our guide was this wonderful women with a charming personality. Emily pointed out wildlife, shared anecdotes and lead us along a you're of her favourite trees while we walked throughout this Hithuu?is trail. We did Emily's signature panoramic Tree shot. We had so much fun. $3 per person of your fare is dedicated to the Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Parks Society.

Had an amazing amazing time whale watching. Before we went out they told us we might see some grey whales and possibly some humpbacks but it would be difficult to see Orcas as they move around a lot. We got to our first spot and I turned around to see an Orca breach, do a backflip and land in the water. It was a pod of transient Orcas and they were in the middle of a hunt. It was super intense, they were breaching quite frequentl . There were a few calves with them and we stayed and watched them for quite a while. We also watched a grey whale from a distance. Even if we didn't see anything the boat ride is a lot of fun. It's very bouncy. Our guide was really great. His name was Rumi and he had a lot of interesting stories to share with our group. Remote passage was a really well organized outfit. The staff are extremely professional friendly.

Connor was amazing guide for our kayaking tour. He's passionate and knowledgeable with his work and truly loves nature. We stumbled upon some garbage along our route and he did not hesitate to pick it up while keeping the group on route. Kati and Don are very polite and responsive when we were booking our tour. They're very experienced in providing the best service around. I would highly recommend Remote Passages for your kayaking and tours in Tofino!

John Short

My wife and I went for the 4 hour kayaking tour for our anniversary, and we couldn't have been any happier. It's hard to pick who to go with for these tours, as they basically all sell the same experiences. We had looked around a few of the other tour companies in the area but decided on Remote Passages as their staff just came across as being the most fun and enthusiastic, which is the whole point in something like this. We booked in for the 10:30am time slot, and were very fortunate that it ended up being just my wife and I with our guide Connor, who is an absolute legend! He's very thorough in getting you set up and teaching you the right way to kayak (we have both kayaked quite a few times before, but have never really been shown proper techniques and tips on the right way to do things). We got out on the water and were lucky enough to see lots of wildlife. Connor goes over lots of little facts and stories along the way and clearly loves his job and respectful of the environment that he lives in. Part of the tour includes a walk on the 'Big Tree Trail' where you see some of the oldest trees in BC. Again, Connor knows his stuff and we learnt a lot from him. The tress are pretty incredible, dating back almost 2000 years. It's also a great way to stretch you legs and back too! My wife and I would also like to say a big thank you to the team as a whole because, once we got back on land, they let us know that orcas were heading down and could possibly come past. They were so kind to let us come down on to their private deck where we were able to see the orcas up close. What an experience that was. It was also great to see the team be so excited to see them come by too. My wife posted an Instagram video that we captured of that and has tagged Remote Passage in it, so go take a look, and Remote Passage, please let us know if you'd like us to share the videos with you too. Anyway, I'd highly recommend taking a tour with these guys and girls. Amazing people and we're very grateful to them for kicking off our anniversary in style!

Claire Doyle

Excellent tours! We attended the bear and whale safari today and had a great time despite the fog. Great guides on both trips and we saw 4 bears, 1 humpback and other animals!

Doris Dreyer

My two teenage kids and I had an amazing trip yesterday. Guide Ashley's knowledge of seaweed, local history and culture, and keen eye for wildlife made this trip special to us. And taking the kids on the 'rapid tour', well, they felt accomplished. Many thanks Ashley!

Fantastic tour! We saw Orcas, Blue whales, Sea lions, a Sea otter and more. Even if we didn't see the wildlife the scenery itself would have made the tour worth the money, but it was great to see the wildlife too! Fantastic staff and location plus we came back to hot drinks! Thanks Don and team

James Miller

Amazing experience! Super friendly booking on the phone and in person before the tour, super cool boats, and our guide Aaron couldn't have been better! He was easily as excited as the guests to be on the chase of a couple huge humpbacks. His knowledge of the local wildlife was super impressive and you could tell he was passionate about the area. I couldn't imagine any other tour company giving a better experience!

Søren Morrud

We were both on whale and bear safaris, and both trips were great experiences. We saw many whales and bears close by, it was really exciting. The staff were very friendly and it was clear that they really wanted us to have a great experience. We took a whale tour with these guys on July 24, 2021. Our guide Jazz was super friendly, responsible, knowledgeable, and just awesome!!! :) Due to her professionalism, we had a chance to spectate the marine wildlife. We saw sea otters, seals, and finally, we saw a whale. We were lucky to watch the whale about 15 meters from us. That was absolutely outstanding!!! Thank Remote Passages for their service and performance! Definitely can recommend these guys!!!

(Translated) Bearwatch and whalewatch done. Bearwatch: 2 bears seen from a great distance, a pity. Not good value for money. Whalewatch: 3 pieces of a whale's back seen from a great distance. We thoroughly enjoyed the bear tour. We'd seen a number of bears on a tour in Whistler so were a little dubious as to whether this tour could match that experience. We were not disappointed. The office staff were so friendly. Kitting us out with inflation suits, hats, gloves etc, we were helped on-board by our guide Rumi. We got so lucky seeing 7 bears although a number of those were only visible through binoculars. The highlight for me was the mum and cub eating shellfish along the coastline. We must have watched them for a good 20 mins. A very special moment. Rumi was so knowledgeable and considerate to all on-board. Switching between languages at times so no-one felt left out. So we enjoyed the trip so much we booked the Whale watching for the next day. Rumi was once again successful. Four grey Whales, two of which were really close, as well as Seals, Sea Lions, Sea Otters and a Bald Eagle. Magical. The Zodiac boat was also a bit of fun.

The girls in the office provided a lot of details and really convinced us to go with their company (several companies do the exact same thing, same tour same prize). The guides John and Arron were awesome, very knowledgeable and they showed us a ton of sea life and several bald eagles during the paddling. The hike on Meares Island was also cool, I would absolutely do the tour with them again. It was a super fun day, thank you!

We saw several whales. The law requires boats to keep 150 m away from the whales, so you may want to bring binoculars. You may also want a hat and gloves to keep warm. We also saw sea lions and sea otters. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The Zodiac ride was fun.

Joel Kirkby

We pulled into Tofino 20 minutes before a whale watching tour and the staff were very accommodating to get us on board. They were even kind enough to fetch us a snack as we had been travelling all morning! The tour itself was great, the guide was very friendly and informative and we even managed to see some killer whales on the tour. Thanks guys!

I had a great time! The tour was awesome! Liam (the guide) was awesome and had the coolest fun facts! Saw a whale, sea otters and sea lions!! The girls at the front desk were extremely friendly, helpful and educated! (Jaime, Shay and Shantell). The kayak guides were also so friendly and inviting when I come back I'll be doing the tour with those two ladoes I hope!! (Tameliya and Kaitlyn) The tour was awesome, but the wonderful staff made it that much better! And to top it off they give you peppermint at the end!

(Translated) Great tour with very dedicated guides. There is no whale - sighting guarantee, but one tries. If whales are discovered, however, the animal will try hard enough to leave enough space. You always see Sea Lions! Recommended! Sea-Lions sieht man immer! Empfehlenswert!

Most amazing tour ever! Seen so much wild life and the natural hot springs were excellent. It was a bit chilly but that was expected during the first week of April, bring warm gloves and a hat. They do provide you with some but it's nice to have your own. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable answering any questions we had. Some of the wild life we saw were sea lions, sea otters, GREY WHALES (about 10-15 of them feeding), tons of different birds and other little critters.

Remote Passages provided a great experience. We went on the 2-3 hour whale watching trip and saw whales, seals, sea lions, sea otters and eagles. Great trip for people with limited time. The company has an boat with an indoor cabin and outdoor deck. This made the trip so much better than the other companies in town which mainly have zodiacs where you get wet and have to wear dry suits. Highly recommended. Ask for Rumi as your tour guide - nice and knowledgeable
