I booked a night photography tour with Mike this past week and in my opinion he went above and beyond as a guide. Right from initial contact when I had some questions about the tours he replied to my emails promptly and in a friendly manner. I was nervous about driving the park in the dark by myself so he picked me up at my campsite and provided transportation to the locations. He can spot an elk in the dark like nobody's business and I was not worried at all. And of course it was very safe outside the vehicle too. He had bear spray and a spotlight and was very alert and communicative of hazards like tree roots and rocks on the path. He was very considerate of my mobility limitations and chose very accessible locations for me. He was also a great instructor, showed me some excellent apps, provided an instructional PDF, and helped me learn how to use a manual lens I had been struggling with since I purchased it last fall. In fact, he increased my confidence in this lens so that I elected to shoot with it more often for the rest of my stay in Jasper, where it usually just rides around in the bag. I had hoped for a milky way core shot, but the cloud (yes, just one cloud in just that spot) was not super cooperative, but I came away with some neat shots of Jupiter and he taught me about light painting at Athabasca falls. His lake echos are also very impressive. I could go on! Overall I had a fantastic evening, and I hope to take more of his tours or workshops in the future!
