Canmore Plumbing and Heating took the staff caving during the heatwave a few weeks back as both a team bonding activity and a way to escape the heat. The experience was beyond my expectations - we had so much fun and pushed our limits a …
We took the 6 hour morning tour and it was great! Our guide Yen Ho (I apologize if I spelled this wrong), was super knowledgeable and professional. He was patient and helped us safely and confidently maneuver through the cave. All along the way he had interesting facts and was able to share his passion for caving and the formations. This trip was harder than I anticipated, but it was a really great experience that I would do again. There is a lot more crawling and butt scooching than I realized there would be. Don't wear white shoes and wear something with a tread as the rocks are slippery. It does get cool especially if you are waiting awhile at any point. I was hesitant about having a mask on while caving, but it was a great choice as the cave is very dusty. Helped keep the dirt and grime out of the lungs. Overall, I would recommend this tour to people who are looking for a new adventure and who are somewhat athletic. It does take a lot of physical effort.
I went and experienced Canmore Cave Tours back in August and just am getting to this review now. I went with my boyfriend and we absolutely loved it. I was the more apprehensive one, but the guide helped me feel at ease and soon I was having so much fun. Caving is unlike something I have ever experienced before and I will definitely hold onto the memories made here. I highly recommend Canmore Cave Tours for anybody looking for a unique adventure :)
This was a great first experience with cave touring for me. The guide Max had a great contagious energy that had the whole group lively and excited. He took the time to teach us all about details of caves and how they're made, and I'm looking forward to more caving from here on out.
Had an awesome experience. We did the solitude tour and it was well worth it. Max took care of us and put us though some situations I didn't know I was capable of dealing with before this. This was a true caving experience.
This was so far out of my comfort zone on so many levels, but I am SO happy my husband talked me into it because it was worthy every penny. It challenged me both physically and mentally being in dark quiet caves for a couple hours underground but it was SO cool. Brent, our guide was awesome. He knew the answer to all of our questions, was clearly passionate about what he does and has a great sense of humor. He told us all about the history of the mountain, the history of the caves and so much more. We got to see Chewy the female rat and honestly she was cute, almost like a chinchilla! ???? I am not an active person by any means, this was challenging but manageable. The hike up to the cave entrance is almost a straight incline, but Brent allowed lots of breaks to catch our breath and never made us feel like we were slowing him down. He kept encouraging us along the way and the same inside the caves. Definitely a unique experience that I will be telling all of my friends about, and something we will never forget. Thank you Brent for showing us a great time.
I honestly have nothing but good things to say about this. For starters probably the best experience of my life! I had a wonderful guide Shy who was helpful and accommodating and an overall amazing guide. The tour was amazing and my group ranged from age 13-52, and had multiple weight differences. But all in all everyone enjoyed it! I can't wait to come back, this place is totally a hidden gem!
I've taken this tour twice - once with my spouse and daughter and a second time with my two other children. The kids were all 10-12 when we took the 4h tour. It was excellent both times and everybody loved it. The underground experience is alien without being threatening. There are several optional experiences (tight squeezes) that are really fun and challenging - a safe way to experience the thrill of caving by squirming through an intricate series of twists on your belly, side, and back. Both guides were great - knowledgable, safe, and entertaining. This time we had Will, and he was super gracious with my kids, not to mention setting a very moderate pace up the short, steep (and unprecedentedly hot) walk up to the cave. In our subsequent backpacking trip I told the kids to walk at a "Will" pace whenever we headed uphill.
I had the pleasure of doing the explorer tour today, and I only have positive things to say about my experience. My guide Hyun Ho was amazing. He made me feel safe at all times, and was very reassuring. The cave was breathtaking! It is so worth every single penny, because this experience is like no other. The views were gorgeous on the hike up to the mouth of the cave. Overall, my experience was outstanding! I will definitely be returning and I highly suggest taking the explorer tour!
This was the most incredible experience of my life — and I am very adventurous! Canmore Cave Tours was totally worth it and we would for sure do it again! Our guide, Max, made the entire group feel so comfortable and safe! He knew so much about the caves and was very passionate and inspirational!!! Highly recommend these cave adventures!!!! ???????????????????????? Even the hike itself going up to the cave entrance was awesome.
We had John as our guide and he hit it out of the park. Highly recommended and we will probably come back again!
This was an amazing experience from start to finish, everyone we spoke with was amazingly friendly. The hike up was beautiful but the caves themselves were so much better than I expected. I thought we would just be walking along the caves but there was a ton of climbing and exploring to do while we were down there. Max, our guide was awesome the whole time too.
An awesome experience that words cannot do justice to. We highly recommended the longer Adventure tour for a truly remarkable experience. Prepare to be awed. Enjoy!
Exceeded my expectations! I've been meaning to do this cave tour for over a decade and it was AMAZING! I now have a deeper appreciation for our beautiful Rockies from the INSIDE!
Okay listen up, if you’re like me and you’ve never been to Canmore/Banff and you’re looking for something fun to do, do this! Our guide, Max, made sure the entire experience was amazing. He deserves a raise for real. Have been on many tours, attractions, etc, and he is without a doubt the most passionate person about what he does. So you know you’re in great hands the whole time through the caves. Max did an excellent job breaking down all the rocks, caves and he even told great stories! His love for caving seriously makes me want to get into caving. I have nothing negative to say about this attraction. It’s the best thing to do while you’re in Canmore. Sure biking/rafting/horse back riding/helicopter attractions are fun, but this is very different. Very exhilarating, educational, adrenaline filled, and fun! The best part was making it all the way down to the blue pools at the bottom. It was more than I expected. The pools had a very cool sound from the water droplets hitting the ponds. The hike up to the caves was probably 25-30 mins. Very easy. Not much elevation gain. One thing I will say, I am very claustrophobic and I get scared of being in tight spaces! You won’t be in tight spaces unless you want to be, you can choose to go around the rocks or through the rock! I am seriously so glad I did this, it was easily the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Photos don’t do this place justice. The photos you’ll see on their page or on reviews look decent because it’s pure darkness and it’s something that in real life you’ll see how large these caves really are! If you plan on doing this, wear good shoes! The cave rock is slippery, good footwear is important. Someone in our group did them in AF1s and converse, however I was in soloman trail runners that had good tread and found it challenging. My only suggestion for this company is that they make zipper pockets on jumpsuits for people that have a phone. If you are deciding on what to do in Canmore, without a doubt, this should be a priority.
The journey down into Rats nest cave was awesome. It was surprisingly cool down there, since it’s so dusty down there I recommend keeping a mask on and wearing contacts. Not ideal for any one that is claustrophobic but its a good workout and a very unique experience when immersed in total darkness.
I would highly recommend this activity for any family. I came here with my wife and 3 kids (10, 11, 12). The office staff were superbly helpful with explanations and were very patient with some of our last minute requests of additional …
I highly recommend this tour to any adventurous souls that are up for anything. Our guide Annie was great. A unique way to visit Canmore.
My favourite experience on our trip!! We got to see Chewyeta the Queen rat. Our guide John was super knowledgeable about the wildlife and plant life, as well as the ecological history of the area. I learned a lot and it was quite an adventure. The climb back out really winded me, and the whole thing is not for the faint of heart but so worth it. Even the hike up was super beautiful with great views.
Absolutely amazing experience. I had done one cave tour before in BC and so I thought I knew what to expect but this blew my mind. Our tour guide John was amazing. He was super knowledgeable and very compassionate when he could sense I was having any panic or fear. Would highly recommend.
Canmore Cave Tours is a must do if you love adventure. Perfect for if you have never been caving before, as the guides are extremely competent. Not only did we have fun crawling and climbing through the cave, our guide Alex was also very knowledgeable about the area and the cave.
One of the hidden gems in Banff Canmore area. This was probably the most enjoyable and physicaly demanding activity on our week long Banff trip
What a great experience! Our guide, Calvin made our day. Repelling underground for six stories or squeezing into confined spaces would otherwise be an anxiety inducting experience, but Calvin inspired confidence in our abilities and supported us in the trouble spots as needed. Even though we were doing extreme things, we always felt very safe. On the way out we even got to see Chewy, the adorable cave rat! Definitely recommending the 6 hour tour to others as you get to do more fun stuff in the cave.
Absolutely worth the money!! As an overweight but active person, I found this very physically challenging in some parts, but the guide (Max) was incredibly kind and supportive and made me feel secure in all aspects of the tour. I have some claustrophobia tendencies, but this was such an incredible way to challenge those fears in a fun and supportive environment. There were alternate routes if you didn't want to do squeezes, but I challenged myself with one, and it was so worth it! We also crawled for about 10 mins in the dark, which was actually quite fun. The rapel was incredibly safe but definitely a mental challege. Climbing over all the rocks brought back memories from childhood and this felt like a big playground. There were a combination of large rooms and smaller passageways, rocks you could grip well, and smooth/slippery rocks you needed to scale with a rope. More of a challenge for the mind. The views were spectacular, inside the cave and the mountains outside. Geological info was excellent. Seeing the glacier water and cave designs that were several thousand to a million years old was just incredible. Vibe of the whole group was fun, safe and supportive. What to wear: it was -18 in Canmore at this time so gloves, beanie and winter coat were necessary for the hike up. In the cave I'd suggest wearing thermal tights, warm socks, waterproof shoes (preferably over ankle for hiking up in the snow - I wore Timberlands and it was fine), a thermal long sleeve top and a light sweater. If you have poor blood circulation in fingers I'd recommend bringing a light pair of gloves to wear underneath the grip pair they provide. Strap on cleats were provided for the hike. Don't drink much liquid in the morning as there is no toilet access for the duration of tour. Overall, honestly this is a must-do experience in Canmore!!!
Brent was an amazing guide so knowledgeable and funny. Very helpful and encouraging couldn't of imagined having better time. ????
We did the Explorer tour and it was fantastic! Sarah was our guide and you can see how passionate she is about caving which made it even better as she was very encouraging and gave a lot of interesting facts throughout the tour. It was more demanding than my boyfriend and I anticipated but in a good way. Highly recommend it! Considering you are in the caves for a good amount of time it’s a great price too.
Great experience caving with Canmore Cave Tours. Our guide John was really knowledgeable and we all felt quite safe with his guidance the whole tour. The caves are amazing, I would recommend this to anyone
Came here second week of October 2021 and had a blast. I believe our tour guide was Max. He had a ton of energy, enthusiasm and knowledge. Learned so much and had a fantastic time. He was awesome. This is definitely a memorable experience. You're going to work and sweat for this experience, but it is all worth it. Can't wait to come back again!
We booked in our group for a team building exercise. What a great day out and great value for money as well. We spent a few hours exploring and learning all about the history of the cave. Rappelling and squeezing through some of the tight spots is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I would highly recommend taking advantage of this option.
Incredible experience with guides Max and Alex! I did the Adventure tour on a super hot summer day and it was perfect temperature in the Cave (5°C) and a relief from the smoke. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting a adventurous and fun tour that requires a good level of fitness.
It was such an amazing experience. It was my husband's and I first time Exploring a cave and we loved it. Our guide Yo Han (I may nave spelt that wrong), was super knowledgeable. He was patient and provided simple, clear and detailed guidance on how to safely move through the cave. There are smooth, steep, rough surfaces and narrow passages as well as areas where we could stand upright. To move through the cave sometimes required us to slide on our butts, crawl on our hands and knees or use ropes with harness. All in all it was a fun and moderately challenging experience.
Loved it! The rat nest's cave is protected and cannot be accessed without a guide. It's a journey of about 55m underground. The pathways are sometimes tight, but very fun. What a unique experience.
Having lived in Calgary my whole life, I simply cannot believe I have not experienced this caving adventure until now. Max, our guide, did a masterful job making us feel safe throughout an honestly challenging day or sliding, climbing, slipping and rappelling. The cave itself bends your mind with its beauty and the tour is worth every single penny. Go for the 6 hour tour. The extra time in the cave is worth it. And bring cash for a tip, we forgot ours and I honestly feel terrible about it because Max deserved it.
This is easily in the top 5, if not outright the number 1 coolest thing I've done in this country I've been born and raised in. You take a beautiful hike up to a cave and then spend hours walking, crawling, sliding, rappelling, tripping, bumping and being inspired by an incredible underground network. Our guide was stellar. I learned a lot and had some old elementary and high school lessons reinforced as we explored.
Had an amazing experience with our guide Tiffany. Had so much fun and really got to experience true caving. You will have to squeeze and contort your body in some places, not all are mandatory mind you, this will definitely take you out of your comfort zone. Would highly recommend it.
Great experiwnce overall. We found it a bit challenging but will was a great guide/ instructor. If you are adventurous and not claustrophobic, I would highly recommend.
This is a must do experience! This is not some sort of electrified boardwalk underground. It is very genuine and as close to caving you will find in a tourist area. You are sliding, crawling, climbing, and learning. We loved it. Even though there are some “tight” spots, everyone was able to do it. Even at 250lbs. Our guide, Adam, was amazing and helpful with every ability in the group. Note: You are given overalls; but be prepared to get dusty and even dirty. Wear good shoes (a lady in our group managed to do it in 2” healed “boots” - but I wouldn’t recommend that). Don’t over dress. Tee shirt with a hoody was ideal for everyone in our group. Note: It is called rat cave because the entrance was filled with a giant rat’s nest when it was discovered. Some of the pack rats remain. They aren’t gross like city rats - but you will likely see and smell a rat. The hike up takes about 30 min after a 5 min drive from the office. You may want to allow a little extra time for set up and clean up. This was the highlight of our Banff vacation (even though technically in Canmore lol). Keep smiling and kiss the dirt.
This place is awesome! Me buddy and I went on our first caveing adventure and fell in love with the sport! Max is the best guide anyone could ask for, so friendly, knowledgeable, and just all around awasone guy! Will be back for more!
Had a recommendation from a friend to check them out. Our friends were super impressed with their guide and excited to tell us all about it, can't wait to go!
Five Star experience!!!! I thoroughly enjoyed this. If you like exploring and adventuring as an expedition I highly recommend. Not for the claustrophobic, faint of heart, afraid of the dark or unfit (unless you are willing to try hard). Our tour guide Brent was fantastic. Quite a character, very informative and made the experience very enjoyable. We did the 6 hour tour and spent about 4.5 hours in the cave. The price is steep but this is not an exhibition cave. You actually get to crawl around, crawl through very small cave entrances and use physical effort. This is also really good for the shoulder season as the cave always stays at 5 degrees Celsius
Had an amazing time today! I don’t really write reviews but this is worth it. If you’re reading this and on the fence, my girlfriend is extremely claustrophobic and afraid of heights and she did amazingly well on the Explorer tour! John was our guide and he was super informative, safe and patient. He didn’t go too fast and was very good at getting us around. Pretty funny guy too! You’ll be in good hands if you get him. They tell you everything you need to know and expect. This truly is one of the number one experiences to do while in the Bow Valley.
Awesome tour for those that want something more adventurous. Had so much fun and our guide was very professional yet kept it fun. He tailored the tour just right for us and gave everyone a chance to try some tight squeezes and different paths, if we thought we couldn't do the particular path then he immediately showed us a different one that was more open. You will be tired by the end so make sure you are rested up and fairly fit before you go. Don't worry about your clothes getting dirty, they provide you with coveralls, gloves and helmets. I Highly recommend!
This is an experience that i will always remember! It was challenging but also fun.Yan Ho is the BEST! Very smart guide with a great sense of humour!
Had an awesome Adventurer tour with Tiffany. She was a tremendous guide, very informative, great knowledge and the utmost in professionalism and safety. Did a great job with the cave novices and fostered confidence throughout the journey. Could not recommend her more highly. Such a great day!
We did the Explorer Tour in Rat's Nest Cave, and we were lucky to have such an incredible experience with our tour guide, John. His enthusiasm and knowledge during the tour made it such an enjoyable experience, and maybe sparked some interest in pursuing more cave exploration in the future ???? It's a lot of fun! If you enjoy nature, science, and adventure I'd highly recommend this tour!
This is a must in Canmore. Caving was a great experience and Brandon, our tour guide, made the experience much more memorable. He was super nice and very knowledgeable. The trail to the cave is a bit tough as it's more of a climb for about 30 minutes bit the scenery is great!
Our guide was Sarah, and she was so great! We all had such a great time, with a great and supportive group. Had so much fun, THIS IS WORTH IT!
Amazing experience. The hike to the cave, the views on the way, the preparation to go in, and the cave! The chambers, the water pond, the bones, the slide, the climb in and down, and the explanations from our guide. The guide John was very attentive, patient and knowledgeable. 100% recommended.
Absolutely phenomenal! I went with my brother and our friend and it was by far one of the best experiences within the Banff area. If you come to Banff and don't do this, YOU ARE …
We had an awesome guide Max. Lots of fun in the tour. Highly recommend for this tour
Absolutely loved our 6 hour tour will Will and Max. They were very professional but still fun and easy going. Felt safe the whole entire tour and if anyone had doubts they were more than happy to talk people through it. I had done caving before but this felt like a whole new experience to me. Learnt a lot and had lots of laughs. Definitely would recommend !
Marvelous and unforgettable experience: Cave Tour in Canmore! I couldn't believe that I can squeeze in such tight passages and don't stuck. ???????????? Highly recommended! There are plenty cave tours on Vancouver Island as well. Thinking about to join the cave club... P.S . Never had so many bruises , but it is worth that!
We booked a private tour, Alex was our guide. It was a fantastic experience, challenging, beautiful, heart pumping fun!! Highly recommended it. Alex was great, super friendly, knowledgeable and a great human overall. Thank you, we will be back ;D
When you see the ratings believe them. My friend and I had an amazing experience exploring the caves. It was scary at first, coz it was our first time in a cave but the tour guide Will was beyond fantastic. He showed us some incredible cave treasures, tried out some tight squeezes, and over all showed us a good time. Will you are awesome the company is lucky to have you as part of their team. Thanks again.
Great experience! We did the Adventure tour and loved how professional, knowledgeable and entertaining our guide was.
Amazing experience. Our guide was so passionate that he transmitted his passion to us while in the tour. This is not a walk in the park, you will climb, crawl, bend, twist, drop, be afraid, laugh and enjoy ! If you are a first timer, no worry. No prior experience is needed, the guide will help you with everything and make sure we are safe at all time. The longer trip is sooo worth it. It allows us to really dive deep in the cave without any rush. I recommend. Thank you max for everything, keep what you are doing because you are amazing at it.
We had an excellent time at the rats nest cave, our group was small because we went on a Tuesday so we got to do everything that that part of the cave offers as part of our tour. Our guide, Will, was very helpful and enthusiastic and was …
John our guide super nice and funny. We had great experience
Was a great time and a great workout. Hyunho was our tour guide and was a great guy. Definitely 5 stars .
It was amazing!! The tour guide , Max, made it so much fun and he was so energetic and charismatic that it became contagious. The tour itself was unreal, it was a first for me and the group I was with and we were all more than impressed with what we saw and what where we got to explore. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone !
Took part in the 6 hour tour with rapelling. A very unique experience that pushes a little bit past your comfort zone, but still really enjoyable. All required equipment is included, just bring sturdy footwear and snacks that can fit in your pocket. Water bottles must stay outside the cave. Our guide, Max, was extremely personable. He is bursting with positivity, and full of fun cave facts. His passion for caving is infectious. Thank you so much, this was the highlight of our trip to the Rockies.????
Simply one of the best experiences I've ever had! Truly an adventure. Would highly recommend them and paying the extra fee for the Adventure tour. Our tour guide Will was incredible!
Had an amazing time on the 6h tour with Hyun Ho (who is a really good tour guide!!) …
Experience is accessible to all. Done the 6h tour twice so far. I'll go again with more friends. The guides are amazing.
Cave exploration was my bucket list item. Made an online booking. Met with the staff at their location. Friendly and chatty folks. Our tour guide Sarah was friendly and knowledgeable. She ensured everyone was comfortable and felt safe. …
I did this trip in June with a friend of mine. Our first time caving ever. You start with a fun little hike and then you spend the rest of your time moving in the cave. This tour was one of the highlights of my Canmore trip. Caves are incredible places to discover. The tour was incredibly fun and exciting ! I wanted to also give a shout out to our tour guides Will and Max who acted professionally and expertly when my friend developed a panic attack on the way out. She got out just fine and smiling. I recommend this tour, would def do this again !
It was an amazing experience, loved every bit of it. Max was a great guide, very friendly and helpful, knows what he is doing. It was worth it, def recommend this to everybody! 10/10 service, safety. This is def a must do activity if you ever visit the rockies, you will not regret it!
Awesome experience - one of the highlights of our stay in Canmore. John was an awesome guide - funny and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend to anyone looking for something unique to do!
Fantastic Experience and well worth the money. Our guide was not only informative and experienced; but was also very funny, communicative and very good at her job. …
The caving experience me and my wife had is beyond what words can explain. This is truly a lifetime experience and we sincerely would like to thank our cave guide Tiffany. She is awesome and clearly loves what she does . Anybody who is thinking of trying this should.
For the fun, sporty, adventurous time. So much to explore, see and learn about the history of these caves and tunnels. Had a great time with my group and easy to find. Our guide was very well informative, and she was very charming and funny..The price for the tour was well worth the educational experience for the 6 hour unforgettable journey.
I had the most wonderful experience going caving with Max and Iola on a guided tour. Max was a wonderful guide, full of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm. He really empowered the group to get the most out of the experience possible, cracked some funny jokes and overall was just so eager to share his favourite place on the planet with the group. I felt very empowered by the whole experience - the section of the cave we explored was spectacular, I didn't want to leave by the end and felt like I could have spent hours exploring and seeing everything that there was to see and explore! It was also so much fun to crawl around and really maneuver inside the cave and its interesting spaces - such a unique way to experience the mountain. Can't recommend this experience strongly enough!
In an adventure week full of bungee jumping, skydiving and sightseeing, this was the unexpected high point. We didnt expect to see or do half of what we got to experience. Be prepared to do some proper caving! HyunHo was one of the best guides I've met in the rockies, he knew every plant and rock along the trail, what was in every corner of the cave and was more than happy to talk about any of it all day long
We had booked the 4.5 hr tour for our first caving experience and Canmore Cave Tours didn't disappoint. As a matter of fact, it turned out to be the highlight of our 5 day vacation. Right from the time we called to book the tour, we felt comfortable and received spectacular customer service. Our guide for the Thursday morning tour was Hyun Ho (I hope I spelled this right) and we couldn't have asked for a better person. He was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour very interactive and enjoyable starting right from the trail head all the way to the cave and back to the parking lot. He made us all feel very comfortable and was very accommodating and helpful during the more challenging parts of the tour. The equipment supplied was top notch, even during these crazy Covid times. I can't recommend this tour enough and would do it again in a heart beat. It is definitely physically challenging, even a bit intimidating in some parts but the experience will stick with you forever. Our whole family had so much fun, we learned a lot of cool information and we took back a ton of wonderful memories.
Absolutely worth doing this once. They take you deep into the cave. You should be comfortable with small tight places and fit enough to wiggle around and climb up and down. This is a must do activity for adults and youth. Not recommended for children younger than 13.
I received this tour as a gift from my family for Christmas. My husband and I did the adventure tour led by Brent and it was fantastic! Caving is not something I've ever thought about but I loved it! Brent is a very nice, smart guide who is very encouraging and knowledgeable. He guided us down the rappel making it not nearly as scary as it seemed going in. We challenged ourselves to squeeze into the small spaces and explore parts of the cave I never would have imagined fitting into. At the end of the tour we were able to observe Chewbacca in his nest. He is the fluffiest, cutest little guy I'd ever seen!! Thank you so much Canmore Cave Tours.p
We had a really great time exploring the Rats Nest Cave with our guide Max. He was funny and encouraging, and made us feel safe even while rappelling and squeezing through some narrow passages. I’d highly recommend taking the time so do a tour here if you’re adventurous whatsoever!
Amazing experience exploring the Rat's Nest Cave. Will was a great tour guide. Definitely worth doing, even if you are a bit nervous!
Was an amazing adventure!! Took my 12 and 14 y/o. Did the adventure tour which was approx 5 to 6 hours. It included the 16 foot rappel and a skinny little spot called the laundry chute. Money well spent in my opinion.
It was an amazing experience for my me and my son. Our tour guide John was on time and always there to help us. I definitely recommend this tour and for sure we will do it again!!!
