You know that we don't usually stop to set evaluations when these are positive and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or issue...

Worst hospital I've ever seen. All this hospital does is make sure your not dying and send you on your way. If you ever have a serious problem go to Toronto you will die here, they don't care. As far as they are concerned your just taking up space. I've seen better hospitals in Africa that truly treat the patient. And that's pathetic considering we are more high tech and have more supply.
A horrible experience. Intake nurses were just talking for fifteen minutes while I waited, once she acknowledged me because I walked up to her she didn't ask any other questions than my date of birth and name. The woman who took my vitals was rude and dismissive. I was in the waiting room for 4+ hours while in severe pain that prescription medications couldn't help while people with a mild cough who got here after I did had already been seen. Heart monitor stickers were on the chairs, garbage, people passed out everywhere, some type of bodily fluid on the floor and lots of other nasty things. In the actual department everyone is stuffed in. Beds lining the halls and it takes forever to see the doctor they have in the department. Once I got in to a room I found out the intake nurse didn't listen to what my issue was and wrote down something completely different. I came in for a severe health issue that I had been told if I ever had those symptoms that I needed to go to the emergency room right away and be treated but the intake nurse wrote that I had a minor annoyance at best. They need a better system here or something. At this point I'd rather drive to Nipigon for their hospital. It makes me scared as someone with health issues knowing this hospital is my only option in an emergency. I have stayed home times where I probably should have gone to the hospital because I dread the treatment there.
A place with lots of job options..
I’ve waited 5 1/2hours before I had to leave bc I wasn’t able to stay longer as my kids needed to be picked up from school and still wasn’t seen by a doctor I am 2 1/2 months pregnant and came in with sharp pains in my abdomen and spotting and extremely nauseous yet people with a sore leg were seen before me! When I asked this very rude nurse if they called me she said she will check but never came back out to let me know if they have or not, I was in the waiting room the whole time besides having to go to the bathroom to get sick. I went to the walk-in clinic before coming here but the doctor there told me I have to go to emerge, if the doctor at the walk-in sent me to emerge you would think I would be higher on the triage scale smh!
Well on March 20th 2017 I had to go for a hysterectomy .. And well as they were working on me my heart slowed down then all of a sudden stopped.. I died and if it weren't for the fast response and excellent work that Dr. Laura Powers did I wouldn't be here today so I want to thank all who cared for me and especially a big thank you to Dr. Laura Powers ????????
I was told to wait 5 hours to see a doctor to get pills for my bronchitis, 5 minutes to see a doctor. God sakes are we in a 3rd world country?
Poor service by staff ladies sitting on the front desk. They are really rude and wont even care what your saying or requesting as they only answer "no" to whatever you ask. My brother is admitted here and i travelled all the way from winnipeg just to give him some food and give him emotional support, which he needed most of the all things. Those ladies at front desk just wont listen and talk so rude. I think those ladies never witnessed something like i did with my brother, thats why they have no empathy towards no one.
Understaffed always but the staff themselves are incredible
I have been here for lots of operations, MRI's, etc- the staff is always very polite and efficient. The nursing staff was wonderful, and they always make the days go by better with their smiles.
There is a lack of empathy with many of the nurses and staff there and it saddens me that the sour apples spoil and tarnish the names of the great nurses who do work there. I have been back and forth to the bedside of a sick family member over the last year. Since I do not live in Thunder Bay, I have to travel far distances to make it home in an emergency. When calling or trying to get through to my elderly mother, who has no cell phone, it has been a nightmare. I am met with rude comments and sarcasm when asking for simple requests, which are not violating any privacy policies in place. ie. privacy of patient care and not divulging information etc My mothers money was stolen from her purse in the hospital, she was left in soiled clothes and has experienced a lack of care and concern. There are some awesome people that work there, over-worked and doing their best and then there are some really rude, young and already jaded staff who make things difficult in your time of need. A severe lack of empathy exists when you are facing a crisis. Do not expect the team there to care about your perspective as they just worry about theirs. Its been a mortifying experience having to go to that hospital where everyone from the switchboard, nurse to the parking attendant offers you a less than polite experience. Kudos to the kind and caring doctors and nurses who have provided care with empathy and kindness. Nothing will be done about this so do lower your expectations when utilizing the only hospital serving the area.
TBRHSC- great Dr. Looked after my son Dr. RAY C. Was very informative and caring. Really Appreciate everything
Incredible staff! They do an amazing job! Considering how many people from all over the NWO region need this hospital, it certainly would be nice if Thunder Bay had more resources. That being said, the staff do an amazing job with the constraints they are given. Thanks again for serving our community and saving/improving countless lives!
Shout out to the fast track emerg nurses, doctor, and wound specialist today ???? I was dreading emerg, but they were genuinely friendly and accommodating. Thank you. Down side to this facility: The waiting room washroom taps only run warm water which is not great if you're waiting on burn treatment.
2.5 rating level for a hospital LOL absolutely embarrassing the entire staff at that horrible place Crackhead doctors and nurses Skip this hospital go somewhere else if you want proper care
No beds, always in gridlock. Dirty, especially in emerge. Great idea closing 2 bigger hospitals and building an eyesore that has less beds.
I had to have surgery and all of the Dr’s and nurses made sure I was so comfortable until the second I left. By far the sweetest most caring environment I’ve ever witnessed.. these people are remarkable.
Exceptional service. Dr Droll is now a lucky charm of mine! I truly feel and felt very cared for by the Thunder Bay hospital staff. Right hip total replacement done 3 days ago... AMAZING immediate results! 37 years old and cannot wait to do other hip and both knees now!!!!
It's been 3.5 hours now, I'm still waiting in the emergency department.
Standard emergency department. I don't understand what the complaining is about.
There's not much else for you to choose from. It does a good job with what they have, but finding has had them make some cuts and sometimes you can be waiting for a while. I like going really early in the morning if u can help it.
I can walk thanks to the hard working staff my aunty is alive and cousin ...thank you
I have never been so disgusted with a hospital in my life. My 76 year old mother in law fell and broke her upper right arm, she was sent back and forth 3 times before they finally admitted heron Friday morning and it is Sunday evening now and they still haven't operated, 46 days since she broke it, ????????????????????????????????????????????
Wait times are atrocious
This hospital lives up to its name of being in the most racist and discrimination towards indigenous peope in all of Ontario. They only seems to be providing the proper care to those who are not Indigenous or People of Colour, aka White Folks Only. They refuse to register patients in hopes that when they do complain they will have no records of admittance on the day they attempted to be treated. They separate support personal from the person needing Care, than treat the Paitent Horribly once they are alone with the Paitent. I am seriously surprised that this hospital has yet to sued due to Medical Malpractice, but then again how can they if they refuse to register them. As a someone who was in various organizations for indigenous women and youth, the amount of stories I have heard from youth stating they were treated Horrible and not given the care they need and only being given the bare minimum of care and sent away like they are nothing. Not taking thier health concerns seriously. The Indigenous Leasion is of no help what so ever, Everyone working there needs to be Fire or replaced.
The staff are so friendly and I told one of them not to use anesthesia mask and cutting my breathing tube, so I went with oxygen and nasal cannula when I went for surgery last year in October
I went to hospital on Monday for my chest pain which ive been having for over a month, the doctor asked me couple questions and wouldn't even give me a chance to speak. Did a heart test and a xray. Been told that everything is fine by the …
Very rude & defensive staff handling the switchboard, on multiple occasions I've called in. I had made no mistake, nor silly inquiry, nor given any attitude to justify a harsh reception. Since this is the main point of contact for our city's hospital, (684-6000), they should be mindful of how they can impact its integrity as an institution & thus be monitored to a degree or at least intermittently -in how they conduct themselves & if not in a polite, patient, effective & professional manner, be spoken to about it so as not to repeat the pattern. Regardless of how busy they are or if they dislike their job, they should possess the social skills & appropriately helpful information to handle their role & provide anyone calling in, with basic respect. Thank you.
This is absolutely not a complaint of anyone that works there. They’re all good decent people. So 2 days in a row now I’ve brought my elderly frail mother to the emergency. Yesterday we waited for 6 hours till midnight and left without being seen. We went again this morning and again left after 6 hours without being seen. Yes they are permanently busy. But both days I saw healthier people come in after us and leave before us. Meanwhile my mom is in a wheelchair with a puddle of fluids from her leg on the floor. The process there has never changed and never will because nobody in authority cares.
The ER doctors and Superior North EMS are amazing with kids
Been 2.5 hours now, still waiting in the emergency ward. My friend is in serious pain and he cannot even sit properly because of that. While asked if he can see doctor after waiting for almost 2 hours, all we were told is "no you cant i am sorry". My friend said the pain is unbearable. We are still waiting and has got more than enough time to write the review at the same time. Waiting time for emergency is pathetic and more like irony. You could definitely go to nipigon , see a doctor and come back here and i bet it will still be faster than waiting here in the town. I think its a nightmare. Hope they see my friend soon. Update- still waiting, another 2 hour... when asked how long, got a 'i dont know'. Never visiting again for sure.
While visiting our daughter my husband required emergency cardiac care. The care he received was very quick & efficient. Everyone we dealt with was very compassionate & caring. We could not have asked for better. Thank you everyone!
On a recent stay at the hospital I can say that I was treated with respect and great care by all staff. I'm appreciative of the care received.
Family member went in as he was having severe GI upset to oral Amoxi-clav. The doctor's solution was to give him MORE oral Amoxi-clav, and when I mentioned this to the nurse, she said "Maybe you didn't communicate your issue clearly …
My family member just went in for appendix pain ... waited 4 hours and left because the people coming in after him were getting in first ... he was even in the emerge room alone and still didn't get called in so he left ..... I really don't see how someone can justify that. Drunks over appendicitis hmmm interesting
This hospital has an unethical, law breaking goon that works for them named Cathy Covino. Cathy Covino is the Senior Director, Quality and Risk Management. She handles complaints at this hospital. If someone sends a complaint about the …
Terrible bedside manner, I waited for 8 hours in pain to be told that I have large masses of cysts and liver issues then sent home. Understaffed and awfully run. Never had a kind doctor there who actually listened and wasn’t condescending or downplaying my issues. The nurses can be nice sometimes but they’re underpaid so more often than not they treat you like scum on the bottom of their shoe. The goal is to get people out and meet their quota, not to help anyone get well.
Dont waste your time
(Translated) Super attentive and professional staff. If it weren't for lack of space, it would be too perfect. Thank you for the care and to the police who escorted me there. (Original) Super personnel attentionnés et professionnels. Si ce n'était pas du manque d'espace, ce serait trop parfait. Merci pour les soins ainsi qu'aux forces de l'ordre qui m'y ont escorté.
this hospital was a mistake from day one. 250 beds from a city that had 500 + and 3 E.R."s we now have one E.R. which is swamped not only in the waiting room, but in the care beds. We have never spent less than six hours from getting there to going home. We need more E.R.'s and the equipment they need not fancywork
Go there with mental health issues...totally down and given up with life, what do they say? Well call you on tuesday!. That was saturday... a whole weekend to become even worse.
No one gives anyone here enough credit. Been a few times and treated very well to the best ability of each staff member. Just on the phone with switchboard 11 AM Aug 15 and the female sounding voice who answered today was so kind and pleasant she deserves a raise!!
Incredibly hit and miss. I've had many wonderful nurses and the several genuinely caring and effective doctors, and, when push came to shove, the ER staff have probably kept me from dying more than once. BUT the lack of professionalism is terrifying, as is the lack of up-to-date diagnostic and treatment options, and the only way I'd let them call the shots in the event of a serious health crisis is if there were no chance I could make it to the big city without dying on the way. I've had ER nurses refer to me using vulgar nicknames derived from my diagnosis. I've had doctors argue with each other about the appropriate course of treatment right in front of me. I've dealt with doctors who blamed other people for leadership and communication issues they were most definitely responsible for. I've been woken up for invasive procedures that nobody bothered to tell me about or get consent for. And speaking of which, what kind of hospital wakes inpatients up at 5 a.m.? Did someone forget to mention to them that sleep is vital to good health? TBRHSC calls itself a patient-centred hospital but, unfortunately, it does not appear to have any idea what that phrase actually means.
Covid 19 should not shut done healthcare. It should not change how a person's medical diagnosis is managed. A doctor should not be only available by phone. This then leads to emergency visits. An xray should not have to wait months to get by referral. Covid closes a community. Healthcare should not be one of them. I am disappointed in how our hospital has made it more difficult to get proper care and how long you have to wait for any test to be done.
Shout out to the thunder bay maternity centre N.P. DEBRA BISHOP!! ( kudos ) She goes up and beyond to help other people who needs the most. Shes very nice on the phone and very helpful. Thankful for a respectful and dedicated N.P in town. She gave me my Tdap shot knowing my family Doctor was on leave and cant find my old record.
I have only positive words for the Doctors and nurses, who looked after me. I arrived by air ambulance, in a coma and intubated from Winnipeg in May 2021. I was very sick with Covid. From the time I opened my eyes in ICU, and during my my stay on the third floor, I was treated kindly and with professionalism.
Chris Mazza: destryer of Ornge air ambulance: So the hospital’s chief of staff, Dr. Gordon Porter thought it was a good idea to hire Dr Chris Mazza. Just when you thought you were safe from overpaid and overhyped executives ripping off your …
I came in as a visitor, I hope I don't end up as the person being visited - not necessarily in this place but anywhere such that the main reason for being visited correlates to the subject and purpose why this place was there for!!
Such amazing staff
As we were on our way to Calgary to pick up our truck camper that we had bought in December2019 and see our two sons and their family in Cochrane, AB and Golden, BC . While stopping for a picnic lunch in Ignace, On, I lost my footing and my left leg took the blow. Decided to drive to Kenora for the night, but as I got to Kenora my leg was getting worse, so I decided to go to the Kenora Hospital. They took x-rays and determined it was a left hip fracture and I had to be transferred to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. The next day which was July 27, I was transported by air ambulance to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital and was operated for a total replacement. The surgery was a success. I cannot say enough for the excellent care I received during my 4 day stay. Dr Droll, Dr Strask, Dr Riediger, his team and the Hospital staff were so professional and caring. From a scale from 1 to 10, I give you a 10. Thanks a million, You are heroes. Best Regards, Irene
A huge shout out & heartfelt thank you to the staff at our Thunder Bay Regional Hospital as well as the Paramedics who transported me to the emergency department. I was taken into hospital with chest pain on the 27th of September. Spent several hours in emergency, during which time I had several tests, bloodwork etc. Although extremely busy, the staff there were very attentive, Not just with me, but with all the others requiring their attention. Their kindness and caring continued to shine through in spite of all the pressure they were under. Once transferred to 2C, I was met with the same kindness and caring I experienced in the emergency department. Although very busy, the staff there couldn't do enough. They were very attentive to all the patients requiring their assistance. After spending a few more days on 2C and more testing, I was allowed to return home. Dr Rohani's Nurse Practitioner came to see me and went over all my results and what would be required going forward. Can't say enough about our regional hospital and the staff there. Thank you all for all you do to get and keep us healthy and well! Charlotte Kostick
Literally the worst experience. Reception is texting and laughing, people are dying and in critical condition and it makes no different with the wait times which are still 7-8 hours at the least. How is that emergency service?
why pay for private room when there never are any open when you need them.
emergency room is a hit or miss, but the nurses on 3A are the best ever
Extremely frustrating waiting for an appointment that they called us for, for my 83 year old mother at the fracture clinic and 3HOURS later still not in to see Dr. Not even into exam room yet!! This waiting is NOT acceptable. The only way I could post is by giving at least a 1.
I was in the room for 3 hours and didn't see anyone got no x-rays nothing on my back and only got looked at by a doctor for 2 minutes before being told it's just muscle pain then sent home. I also got kicked out of my room and they lost my paperwork. I don't ever recommend coming here.
Nurses are do not care about the patients in emergency and will just shrug you off as if you were not important. You are better off waiting for your own doctor.
Nurses and staff are too busy playing with their phones half the time to be bothered to answer questions in emerg. Be prepared to be there all day if you go. Itd probably be better to even drive to nipigon to go to their hospital lol.
Horrible Hospital ever.. The nurses are extremely rude and they really don’t care you have a health emergency issue... one of the many reasons I decided to leave this city
If I was an executive or part of the management team at this circus, I would never admit to it. I honestly believe that the most embarrasing thing one could ever say in this city is, "I'm the president and CEO of TBRHSC". The second most embarrasing thing one could ever say is, "I'm part of the management team at TBRHSC". I would not even admit to being a janitor at this place (Have you ever seen how filthy hospital is?). You would receive better care in a third world nation. If you think you're very sick and possibly dying, just stay at home and take a tylenol. If you go to TBRHSC you'll just end up waiting 6 to 12 hours suffering in emerg without seeing a doctor anyway. If you're lucky enough to see a doctor after waiting 6 to 12 hours, you'll probably be given a tylenol and sent home anyway, so don't waste your time.
I don't think the X-ray technician know what to look for in an X-ray
Awful experience. Couldn't be told any general wait time and watched several people come in long after me and get in. Don't waste your time going here. Try a walk in clinic.
Should you donate your hard earned money to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre? Let's see. President & CEO of Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, Andrée Robichaud as well as many other executives at this hospital have topped the "sunshine" list for making among the highest salaries in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Andrée Robichaud was number two on the list with a whopping salary of more than $385,000.00 a year. Dr. Rhonda Crocker Ellacott Executive Vice President of TBRHSC made the list with a salary of over $200,000.00 a year. Why should you think twice about donating? Well, this hospital violates healthcare laws. For example, this hospital violates the Health Care Consent Act by coercing patients to consent to medical procedures. This is no different then an assault on a patient. This hospital violates fire codes putting the lives of hundreds of patients at risk. Luckily the fire department caught this hospital in the act of violating the fire code and the hospital recieved a court date to answer the charges. This hospital fraudently fills out paperwork. This hospital scores lower than the national average recieving an overall grade of a "C", making it one of the worst hospitals in Canada. The level of patient complaints at this hospital is also through the roof. So, where is your donation money going to? Could your donation money be going towards the salaries of the bigwigs at TBRHSC?
This place is run by very very evil greedy people. It’s not a hospital, it’s a nightmare. Canada was once a great country but now it has become terrible in every way, including healthcare. I’m warning you all, stay away from this place, it’s evil. Stop donating to the Thunder Bay Health Sciences Foundation. It doesn’t matter how much money the foundation gets, the hospital just gets worse by the year and the bad reviews on the internet never end. This place is pure evil.
I have never had a good experience here. It's so bad I think it would be better to move elsewhere just for better healthcare.
I spent several days at the regional before and after cardiac bypass surgery which was done in Hamilton. I have nothing but good things to say about the staff and the treatment I received. During my relatively short stay I was attended to by RN's, a nurse practitioner, a cardiac doctor, a physiotherapist ...all were attentive, caring, and provided me with the information I needed before being discharged. Food wasn't that bad either, in fact, it was quite good.
Pretty hard to give a review if you cant get in the parking lot. Snow removal budget must be spent. Every single car is parked wrong in every parking lot. There lots of space because everyone is parked like an idiot. I cant belive this place. Healthcare is f÷#cked here. If anyone needs me I'll be circling the block. Looking at all the cars taking up 2 spaces. No security. No one making sure anyone can get in. Nothing. Good luck poeple. When i get sick im gonna just let er role instead of coming here.
A TRIBUTE THE MIRACLE WORKERS OF HUMANITY Recently, I ended up in the hospital. An infection caused my left leg to triple in size. Confined to bed, a major effort was required to turn or sit. Walking was out of the question. At the beginning, the pain was excruciating, both mentally and physically. I have never been confined to a bed before. I soon discovered that for an active person, being immobile is worse than being in prison. Needless to say, my mental, emotional and psychological state went down the tube along with my physical ability. This was a crisis never experienced before in my life. The fear of losing my leg, or even dying, brought on a severe depression. The thought of losing my business and becoming dependent on my children frightened me. Luckily, this state of mind did not last long. Once my care givers took over, a miracle started to unfold. A new bright outlook of hope and trust took over. Although, I had complete confidence in our medical community, I have never imagined them performing miracles. Within days, the pain started to subside and the infection that spread to my upper thigh started to recede. Shortly after, my normal way of life would be restored. Watching the team of miracle workers perform their duties was amazing. We are not talking here about tasks and skills. Anyone in the world would be able to learn all of this from a manual. Indeed, I have discovered that only special individuals are able to go over and above the call of duties to perform these types of miracles. Every one of the team that helped me recover was professional, kind, carrying, friendly and genuinely concerned about a person whom they have never met in their life. I am one of those thousands of patients who was deeply touched by the generous spirit of this miracle team. Overwhelmed by the humility of highly esteemed and knowledgeable doctors – the true heroes at time of peace and war. Impressed by the coordinated skills of the administration. But, most of all extremely grateful for the nurses who care for their patients around the clock. I can honestly report that I was provided with the royal treatment. Though, many people complain about the care received by this fine community, I now realize that most of them are unfounded. I now see the true generous nature of Canada. Even the food was healthy and tasty. Sorry, I would rather use the fund for medical necessity instead of offering gourmet meals. Of course, do not expect greasy foods. In my opinion, our health care system is what makes Canada one of the best countries in the world. Indeed, we can transform our world into a paradise should we succeed in duplicating the remarkable performance of this fine community. This is a huge enterprise. We all have a role to play in making it succeed. We also have to be reasonable in our expectations – particularly, not to look for perfection. Furthermore, try to be fair and objective in our judgements. Dwelling on trivial matters is not going to help. On behalf of my family and my awesome staff, Most humble and grateful patient, Robert Skaf June 6, 2019, Inspired by Nurse Melayne and her colleagues.
Dwindling services...slower than before (as of May 21, 2016
I have been here several times and have had the most difficult time being seen. Everyone was rude when asked any questions. In addition, people who came after the person I was with kept being seen before us, meanwhile she had an open wound. The staff is slow and do not care about the patients needs.
Some staff really should get off their phones while at work. They like to sit around, playing on their phone, instead of tending to the patients. Next time we as patients should video record this and will be post it online :)
I would not even give this star if I could go lower. Brought my daughter the the ER department with chest pain and hard to breath and have been waiting in the waiting room, not even in the back yet, for 4 and a 1/2 hours. This is a complete joke!!!!!!
had mri tests done at tbrhsc they are extremely uncomfortable, but the staff there went out of their way to make me comfortable. and reassuring as this is a big scary machine. It took almost an hour but I was given caring attention the whole time, thanks guys
Emergency overflown with patients. To long of a wait.got to see a doctor after 4hours of waiting. Just to be told they couldn't find anything wrong. Had to sit in the hallway, no privacy at all the doctor came and talked about my health right there, everyone knew my issues. Humiliating. Embarrassing episode. Total disrespect for patients privacy. Front desk can use a course on hospitality, considering they are encountering ill individuals, they need a little more compashion toward patient education.the hospital is lacking in the availability of space as well as doctors. This is not the patients fault, anger from employees should be directed toward those at fault and not the patients.
Only going if on my deathbed... seriously. I've seen and experienced far too much over the years and, sadly, about 90% of it was a nightmare.
I dont understand how its "busy in emerge" but it took 2-going on 3 hours to deliever results... my father was left in pain in a chair waiting on results and we asked and asked and it was " up to the Dr and they werent sure why it was …
