This place is a hidden gem, the drive is quite nice on by Cottingham Rd by Peterborough area just south of Hwy 1, one can also use the beautiful bike trail, the Walk to the bridge is 1Km through luxious green forest and bush, the view is spectacular once you reach the bridge you have a 360° view of the valley underneath, I highly recommend you do this

Hidden gem. I love biking to this. It's an easy mostly flat loose gravel bike ride from either Peterborough or Omemee and I regularly see a lot of cyclists and walkers of all ages and abilities. I have biked to it on bald skinny tires and fatter tires with a light tread. The bald skinnies will require a bit more care on the loose gravel. There is a couple of small cute wooden bridges around the big bridge as well. Lots of nice farmland leading up to the site from the Peterborough side. Lots of colour especially in fall!

This is a quick and easy walk to a cool lookout over some wetlands, rolling hills and farmland. We highly recommend this walk! Not only is it a nice walk, but there is also lots of history to take in if you're paying attention. It's also pretty kid friendly with a flat and straight walk from the road to the bridge.

Not a bad trail. It's a little well traveled and there's no shortage of dog poo piles for the kiddos to step in. The view is decent as it's still mostly farmland surrounding it. It's a quick walk from the road to the bridge a d back. The fall has nice colors.

Spent over an hour hour yesterday trying to find the entrance to this, finally found it but it was far too late to actually explore as I lost so much time. The location on google is not correct (I submitted a change to Google) attaching the screen shot where the entrance AND parking is. Please like this post so others can find this and not be lost like me :( ...btw the lady who was also parking near me mentioned that the bridge is a 20 min walk from this point just an FYI.

LoRdNoX09

Live riding out there from Peterborough usually do it once a week

The Bridge was our destination for our bike tour from Peterborough which was around 40K both ways and taking us around 3 hours on our trail bikes. It was very worth the journey as the bridge provides a spectacular view and is itself beautiful to see. It is amazing to think of the old trains that would have crossed it back in the day. There are nearby roads that you could walk in from. There are no services at all here such as a bathroom. It is simply a fantastic destination for some exercise.

Maher Jebara

Easy path that is crushed rock. Beautiful view form the bridge but it does get windy. They even have a repair station for bicycles.

susan wu

Scenery route for beginner hikers.

David Benes

Great views. Work continues to preserve this piece of local history so watch your step...

Love the view!

Capricious Conch

Lovely spot for a view. No bathroom. The boards are repaired now, which is nice. Some poison ivy under the bridge right now, best in the spring or fall. Beautiful place for a sunset!

Daniel Merkley

Beauty Spot.

About 700 ft long, 70ft high, the Doube’s Trestle Bridge was originally built in 1883 and replaced with the steel that still stands today. As part of the Trans-Canada Trail, this bridge is a nice bike ride from the nearby Omemee about 7km away.

Benjamin Clark

Great for an evening walk or bike ride.

Jake Dean

Beautiful landmark with an incredible view. 15 minute walk from the nearby road. The newly restored bridge is a great stop on bike trips between Lindsay and Peterborough.

Jan Moo

I was surprised at how beautiful it was there. I wish I had of went at sunrise or sunset to see the sun hitting all the tree colors... definitely worth the trek!

Ken Anderson

Gorgeous view in Sept and October

Nice hike out to a scenic spot, I was taken aback by the quietness. You can really get away from the road, the only sound is the birds and the gravel under bike tires. It can be busy in the weekend, plenty of cyclists. But the destination was well worth the trip.

Sunny Leung (Meow)

Excellent biking path from Peterborough with this bridge being the absolute highlight. There’s free parking near 1100 Parkhill Road W. Parking to bridge is around 10km with great scenery.

Danny McGrath

Probably one of the most beautiful and peaceful places around here that you could ever go! On a nice day, looking out over the rail into endless country and hills, you can see for miles!

Susan Knights

The entrance is not where google maps shows you. We did find the trail entrance and the trail is in good shape. Chip gravel ideal for biking. Hiking is very long so we walked to the bridge and back.

This bridge offers the best views in the fall. This is a great spot along The Great Trail - managed by volunteers at the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Association.

Tareq Nasser

Such a wonderful bridge with amazing views all around I visited this place in Spring when all the trees were blooming and a lot of birds were there . Don’t forget to get down and take a look to the bridge from there it has huge Iron girders bigger than you think. And keep in mind that Cottingham Road doe’s NOT take you to the bridge, still you have to walk through a bushy land to get to it.

Rakesh Babu

Good trekking experience

Hannah Sutherland

Beautiful views! Informative signage. A photographer's playground.

Seamus McCann

Absolutely amazing

Norman de Bellefeuille

Wonderful view and a nice flat gravel based trail. We were on the trail during this current pandemic We would advise caution crossing the trestle if on foot, the bridge was busy with large family groups and wandering cyclists oblivious to any social distancing.

The walk to and on the Doube’s Trestle Bridge is an enjoyable experience especially to see the fall foliage. The directions to reach the bridge aren’t accurate on Google Maps, so if you’re driving, it’s best to park in Orange Corners Road and walk less than a kilometre to the bridge on the Trans Canada Trail. The bridge maintenance and improvements are funded by grants and donor contributions, not by the municipality. There’s a bike repair stand on the way to the bridge.

Tracie Bliss

Beautiful view. So quiet. All I could hear was the wind in the trees.

Beautiful spot. Great view after a nice 15 minute walk.

Two months ago l would have given this place a 5 star rating. I live around the corner and would bike here often. Suddenly it became another tourist destination for the masses. Our peace of heaven ruined by masses of people who litter clog our road and have no regard for private property. I've seen people taking photos in the middle of my neighbor's field, sleeping on other neighbors lawns and disposing litter on the trail and road. It's very sad to see another tranquil place destroyed by tourism.

Scott Laking

Beautiful view and a very easy walking trail
