REVIEWS OF Grande Prairie Museum & Heritage Village IN Grande Prairie

Doris Kibermanis

The latern tour was very poorly done this year. In the past there were actors and skits plus a beautiful meal. This year the Narrator was lovely but all she did was read from a book. Nothing was told about the building or it's history. When we came in from the cold there was just Costco pie and a few desserts. Such a disappointment from previous years.

Todd Smith-Salter

Fun place to take the kids. They usually have scavenger hunts if varying difficulties, with prizes for kids who complete.

Lisa Hansen

Awesome!!!!

Roxann Standring

Lovely for a small western city.

John Bailly

No food or drinks allowed! Buy your icecream afterwards. Although it's wheelchair accessible, it's a bit bumpy and awkward. Best of all it's free.

Jeffrey Allen

What a great place to visit with the family and its free.

Arlene Karbashewski

Heritage Day was amazing!

Wael D

Nice museum to spend half hour or so. It would be nice if they had events or change things around once in a while.

Marta Fracek

Great little museum. Love how the city has made it free, and it seems to have changed sense last time I was there. Majority of the items have been donated from local's. Making it really about the town and it people.

Richard Tseng

Although the museum is small, it still presents some rich history of Grande Prairie.

Harmeet Toor

This is a great place to go to see some of the history of the area. In the summer when we go, they have quite the fun things for the family to do. If you have a chance check it out. While you are here in the summer don’t forget to take in mini golf across the way and get an ice cream. Always a treat.

Dorian McCready

I've never been, which is unfortunate. We were blown away. We took our 16 month old son, and spent over two hours doing the indoor and outdoor scavenger hunts. Was actually a lot of fun! The amount of local history is incredible, even not being from here I left feeling a sense of pride. Highly recommend to anyone who lives in the area.

I, personally, have always loved this museum. It really houses a great variety of artifacts that offer the visitors a sense of what early life in the Peace country was like. For instance, Isabel Campbell's little house...ask how and why her father actually chose Grande Prairie for his little family, how Isabel grew up in the Peace Country, what needs she saw existed and what she later on decided to do about those needs. Not only is her home sitting on the Museum grounds but she, at the end of her long life, and in addition to the home, willed many of her possessions to the Museum. I really could go on and on but, I will not, ... this time. Rather, I urge everyone to keep in mind that it really is a treat to go and spend a number of hours in this particular Museum. Enjoy!

What a wonderful display of historical artifacts to sweep your mind off into a world of the lives of pioneers and homesteaders and how they shaped history for generations to follow. Very well constructed little "town" reminiscent of British Columbia's gold mining town of Barkerville.

Firstly, the Google direction to the place was wrong. But, we got to the place alright and there is a short walk to the quiet museum. Loved the taxidermy animal displays and especially the dinosaur fossil. I totally didn't expect it. The models created of coffee shops, cabins etc were informative and some were also fascinating because they're interactive. The Heritage Village is also fun to walk around and see with friends or family.

Laurie Pielak

Easily the best part of Grande Prairie. Large museum for a small urban centre, and very comprehensive with plenty of exhibits. Historical village is also very well done. Hours are extended relative to most museums, and all exhibits are free.

Christa Temple

Been going here for over 30 years! Fondly remember school field trips when I was younger, now I get to take my own child here. The heritage village rivals Calgary’s Heritage Park in quality. Always great events that the whole family looks forward to.

The Patricks

A great way to waste an hour especially how it didn't cost anything the staff are very knowledgeable and the volunteers really love to be there

Lorraine Murphy

Great place to take the kids. Scavenger hunts of many levels. Replica of old houses, businesses and school. They also add sound effects in some of the buildings including the sound of chalk writing on the board in the school room....Comes across haunted ... But that's just me my kids didn't notice.

Lorne Crystal Takayla Oliver

Well maintained. Exceptional displays and research. Delightful assortment of books in gift shop.

Derek Fournier

Great place to take the kids. Loved the scavenger hunt.

Peter N

Richard Ferris

This is a fairly large Museum and it has some interesting material on Grand Prairie. They have an indoor exhibits section with good signage. A small section on dinosaur bones and minerals and ores in a large outdoor townscape exhibit. Most of the buildings were well restored with examples of conditions of the period. The most unique piece of equipment on display was mislabeled as a road grader there was actually a tool used to pick up the dirt and put it into a wagon. This is the only example of equivalent I've seen that it is an excellent condition. It is paired with an old wooden bottom dump wagon that would have been used on constructing the roads and do Grand Prairie. Picking up the dirt the road grader has put into row and putting it into a wagon had to be something commonly done in the past but this is the only surviving example of the piece of equipment that would do it that I have seen. When they correctly label it I think it's the gym of their Museum. They have an outdoor shed with older equipment you can look at it as well and everything is well capped in most of the exhibits meticulously restored. This museum is worth your time if you're not too big a hurry.

Cory M

Well done museum in the heart of GP laying out the human history/settlement of the region. Would like to see more interactive exhibits for the kids. But you can't beat the price.

Dan Haggblad

Nice way to spend and afternoon and it’s free.

Celest Robinson

This is not a Place I always think of going because I feel like I've seen it all. That being said. The last time I went which was a couple of weeks ago, the admin staff handed me a treasure hunt to do with my kids. That was a lot of fun and I appreciated the experience a whole lot more because of it! Worth checking it out whether you do the treasure hunt or not.

Roberta Gray
