REVIEWS OF ALTA Language Services IN Churchill

Lucy Panasenko (Ludmila Panasenko)

I really enjoyed ALTA Training course for Medical Interpreters. What I like the most is that there is not the book of theory but a lot of practical information and practice as well. Because of ALTA I become more confident and knowing a lot of important things. Staff are very competent and supportive.

Well structured course that provides a wide range of resources to help one succeed in becoming a qualified interpreter. Both the group coaching instructors and personal instructors do an excellent work in helping students prepare for oral exam. The sharing of their work experience is invaluable. I highly recommend ALTA Language Services.

Gloria Ortiz

I definitely recommend the course. I did the online course and Stephanie (instructor) is amazing! I wish I would have taken advantage of more office hours (live course review, Q&A held 2x week). Each one I participated in was very valuable to my progress and education. The course is well structured and ALTA is very responsive to your needs. The oral exam is challenging but as long as you do your course work and use the materials provided, you will succeed. I feel that it is a great stepping stone in preparation for the CCHI exam. Choosing ALTA for your interpretation training is a great choice!

Thank you ! It was a pleasure to study with Alta! I would like to say couple words about Russian teacher Olga. Studying in her classe helped me a lot, she helped me to understand better some unfamiliar medical terms or how to behave in situations that can occur during the interpreting session in real life. Olga is very professional and her skills are valuable. It was very very helpful. And of course I want to say, BIG thanks to all Alta team! Very responsive and professional as well????????????

For 30+ years I have been teaching - lecturing - course writing - examining - interpreting - translating etc. in foreign languages. I had to do one of their tests this week to get a translation job, and they marked me as mediocre, but will not show me why they marked me thus.

Aiden Jelle

I am native speaker & writer. The reading test is "very long" compare the time given and the fonts/space are too small. They should look into reviews and correct the problems. Always, there a room for improvement.

I really enjoyed my learning experience with Alta. It was definitely worth the money. Since there are no in-person classes bc of the pandemic, the virtual live-sessions were invaluable for consistent practice with professional medical interpreters still working in the field. Kate and Stephanie with great instructors and always made the atmosphere of each live-session fun and open to ask as many questions as you need. I also loved that if you were not able to attend a live session, you could watch the recording for free. Although I dealt with Stephanie and Kate the most as I attended as many live sessions I possibly could, any time I needed to call or email Alta, I was always met with professionalism and my concerns were handled immediately. Even when there was a hiccup with the processing of my Oral Exam, Stephanie went ABOVE AND BEYOND to get things worked out immediately! I'm so very grateful to her for caring so much! If you are wondering which course you should choose, I recommend Alta 100%!

Thank you for your outstanding work in preparing this course and providing me with tools to feel confident as an interpreter and curious to keep learning. The video lessons, the textbook, the glossary and the live and recorded office hours have been better than I expected. The payment plan also made the course feasible. I completed the online course in about two months and I was able to find work. I highly recommend ALTA Language Services.

The lectures are so beneficial. If you want to be a professional level interpreter sign up for Alta lang. you can’t beat the price and payment plan. It’s simply the best. Every time I contacted Service. They had a great attitude. I did a lot of web searching while looking for a good training agency providing a 40-hour medical interpreter training program. I am very happy that I chose ALTA. The course is well designed and informative. All instructors are knowledgeable, patient and responsive. Every office hour session is educational and fun. It went above and beyond my expectations. If anyone is looking for a high quality medical interpreter training program, I highly recommend ALTA to you.

I recently took the Qualified Bilingual Staff Test for work (Spanish/English). I was born in Chile and lived there my entire life (studied, got married, had children) until recently moving to the US. My first language is Spanish, but since I had American parents I also speak English fluently. I don't have a second-language accent in either language. When I tested, since I'm a psychologist and not a medical provider I expected to have erros in the category of medical terminology/diagnosis, but you will imagine my surprise when my worst score came from "pronounciation" with the note: "errors may interfere with understanding and/or affect meaning." I passed the test, so this is more of a complaint to whomever is reviewing the subjective aspects of the test without having knowledge of the diversity of accents in the Spanish speaking world. If this test is catered to an North or Central American Spanish, which has a particularly heavy accent, it should explicitely say so. ALTA needs a diversity of examiners, or a panel of reviewers when they are unfamiliar with a particular accent to not mistaken that as "issues with pronounciation". Chile has a pretty neutral accent, but just to make sure, I called ALTA and spoke in both English and Spanish to the operator on the phone line asking him if I had any pronounciation issues, to which he answered "no, para nada". Secondly, the pre-test packet given by ALTA contains translation errors that could have a profound negative impact upon the medical interaction. For example, "nurse practitioner" is translated as "enfermera practicante" which almost anywhere in Latin America means a "nurse intern". Therefore if I were the mother of the patient and someone said the "intern" was coming to see my sick child, I would seriosuly doubt the professional attention I was receiving. Thankfully I passed the test, but I only wonder how many other Latin Americans (Chileans, Argentinians, Peruvians, Bolivians, etc) have been unjustly scored because they don't speak Mexican Spanish...

Greetings from Florida! I just wanted to take a few to give a 5 star review to ALTA for their outstanding 40-hour Medical Interpreter training, which qualifies me not only to work as a Medical Interpreter but also sets the stage for me to sit for the National Exam or CCHI (Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters). I highly recommend this medical interpreter training to all those that aspire to becoming an excellent Medical Interpreter. Hats off to the instructors

Melissa Delmonte

The Interpreter Training program is awesome. I couldn't be happier with the course content, the coaches and all the priceless advice and insight given. You can sense all the staff's passion for this profession, which is contagious. I would 100% recommend their training program.

ALTA Language Services was a great place to study and learn how to be a Medical Interpreter for me. The morning class was very beneficial because we learned about the different body systems and how they worked. Everybody that works there is very kind and helpful. In the afternoon class, we actually practiced with the art of interpreting with a personal coach. It was very beneficial for me to learn how the test was going to be and how to practice for it. The class is at a good challenging level and if one works hard in this class, they can have great success on the final exams and become a trained Interpreter.

The 40 hour interpreter medical training course was worth every penny. It made a prospective employer consider me as a more serious candidate and even made the employer waive the oral exam requirement because the one I took via ALTA's course was satisfactory to them. I was then also able to use my certificate of qualification which ALTA gave me to satisfy national certification requirements. I wholeheartedly recommend ALTA to anyone who's thinking of taking their 40 hour course. You won't regret it!

I've worked with ALTA for over 10 years and have always been impressed with their service. We use them to test both written and oral English, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Tagalog, French, German, Dutch, Italian and Spanish language skills and the results are delivered consistently and with amazing promptness. The protocols they use to evaluate our candidates are the best in the business and I've never had cause to question an assessment. Highly recommended - I've sourced the market and you won't find a better provider!

It seems like the only poor ratings are from the people who couldn't get a job. The clients seem to be very happy. I'm one of them. They answer the phone. Quotes come in hours. Jobs are completed quickly and accurately. AND, they can cope with things that need to be transcribed, like text embedded in photos. In short, they make a very complex job look easy. I would absolutely recommend this company.

I totally recommend the online Breaking Boundaries in Healthcare course. It is worth the money and the effort. From the very beginning it was good to know there were payment plans available. I didn’t need to use any at the moment but it gives you a peace of mind to know you can take the course without suddenly affecting your finances. I love the flexibility of the program. With the self-paced mode I managed to successfully complete the course without putting aside my usual duties. The course offers a comprehensive source of training and studying materials. I’d say the trainers are the highlight of the course. Always caring and willing to assist! It was great to have live coaching twice a week. Furthermore, the individual OPI coaching takes it to a higher level, considering the final exam was to be made over the phone. I could not be happier with it!

The Alta program is the BEST interpretation program out there. The course was very informative and organized. It was easy to access and the online meetings were very beneficial for all students. Alta’s program has taught me so much and will hopefully be a stepping stone to my success as a medical interpreter. Alta’s staff were extremely helpful and professional. They helped all students with all of their questions and needs. I highly recommend Alta to anyone who is interested to learn the right way of interpretation!

I am very satisfied with the service, provided by ALTA Languages Services.I had to translate and notarize some documents from Bulgarian to English. The job was done on time, very minimal waiting time and very accurate!Jason helped me a lot! Thank you so much!I will recommend this agency to my friends if they need language service!

This company is personable and they answer questions when I, as the proctor, was in a panic. Be certain to get your time zones straight so you don't get charged for a missed speaking exam. All else is wonderful! I've appreciated working with them.

I have my degree in two Romance languages. I've also lived abroad in countries that speak the languages, and I have even taught for 3 years. Needless to say, I've taken dozens of proficiency exams for several academically accredited institutions, and passed them (I had to to or else I wouldn't have been permitted to attend university if France, Spain, or Mexico). However, the exams proctored by this company are absolutely ridiculous, to say the least. The questions are completely random and have nothing to do with reality, one's life, or one's profession. I work in the travel industry, yet they asked me questions like: Why does the yellow bird sing? Why do people use spoons? Describe your kitchen stove in detail. These are ACTUAL "questions" they asked me! And if your answer isn't at least two full paragraphs, they ask you to elaborate further! HOW MUCH CAN I REALLY TALK ABOUT A SPOON? I still don't understand why my company uses ALTA. I know so many NATIVE speakers who cannot pass these exams. How is it possible to FAIL an exam that tests one's ability to speak the language they have spoken and been educated in for their ENTIRE LIFE??? There is something very wrong with this language company's methods. I would NEVER recommend them! They are a disgrace to the language education community.

I completed the 40-hour course and passed both written and oral tests and got permission to work as a medical interpreter in the USA. Alta provided a wonderful training experience for me. They have excellent e-learning materials you can complete at your own pace with abundant supporting resources including the textbook, roleplay training material, glossaries for different languages, etc. You can also meet other students who may share your language combination and with whom you can practice medical interpreting in your spare time. What is special about ALTA is that they have three online courses every week where you can meet three tutors and ask them any questions related to medical interpreting. Besides, ALTA has provided online classes for more languages including Mandarin Chinese and Spanish. I love ALTA and the team. They are supportive, respond to queries quickly, and professional. After comparing ALTA with other medical interpreting training institutions, I chose ALTA. I believe this is where you should choose if you want the first step into the medical interpreting field as I do. You won't regret!

Elena Victoria

I’m very happy with training provided by ALTA language services. I heard about ALTA from a friend who took the online 40-hour course. She raved about the company’s quality and customer service. At the time, I was debating between Bridging the Gap and ALTA’s Breaking Boundaries in Healthcare. In the end, I signed up for ALTA’s in-person Atlanta classroom course. I’m SO glad that I did. The company staff did a wonderful job by making us feel comfortable and our lead trainer provided very useful information based on her experiences. Also, my interpretation coach was amazing. She made sure I was prepared for my exams!
