The Gaelic College should be your first visitor experience when coming to the island It gives a great overview of the culture with the many hands on workshops to attend. The sessions were long enough to learn well, but not too long to feel overwhelmed with information. Lots of informed staff to answer all our questions. Visiting here first helped us to decide what other things we wanted to see and do while visiting Cape Breton Island! Do not miss this great experience!!

(Translated) If you come between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., entry is really worth it because there are all the demonstrations, e.g. a small language course and a music and dance performance. The guides are very nice and we spent 3 hours there without realizing it! Otherwise there is a small exhibition.

Had a great time visiting the Gaelic College during our Cape Breton honeymoon. We got to enjoy a fish and chip lunch while watching some of the college instructors do a short performance. They were all amazing to watch and it was heart-warming to see so many children invested in the Gaelic culture. Also visited the Hall of Clans. Very interesting exhibits to read. The best part for me was the weaving demonstration. She was fantastic. Patiently answering questions from my husband and myself. As a fibre crafter already, her enthusiasm was so encouraging that I now want to add weaving to my arsenal of crafts.

Really neat and unexpected stop on our Cabot Trail journey. We found our families tartans and found really unique items in the shop. There was an excellent bag piper out front who did a great job of performing!

We didn't really buy anything or stop at this beautiful place, however, we really appreciate the help from the staffs here. We ran out of gas and went in ask for help, Sharlene, who offered us help by tailing us to the nearest gas station and made sure we have our gas filled. I think it was people like Sharlene and all the staffs here at this college made Nova Scotia a great place to live and visit. Thank you all for the great help!

Stopped in on our way down to baddeck and couldn't have enjoyed the trip more. The campus is gorgeous and the effort put into teaching Gaelic language is evident even when you go to the washroom and the soap is labelled. It was a pleasant surprise to be greeted in spoken to on Gaelic and then translated to. It made me want to look further into the subject on my own. The Hall of clans was a fun and interesting set of exhibits but the true beauty is in the demonstrations. We attended in time for a weaving demonstration/talk and the demonstrator was knowledgable, enthusiastic and personable. My wife being into fibre arts was enthralled and we would've gladly spent the afternoon simply taking to this single demonstrator. Come for the history but stay for the knowledge and talent attracted by this wonderful building. I hope they stay open for a good many years.

Great Hall of the Clans Museum consist of almost entirely text exhibits, without anything that you could not read online. What is special is the demonstrations, which follow one-after-the-other (and apparently are given only once or maybe twice per day) so phone ahead to find out when the first one starts, and be there when it starts The "lunchtime ceilidhs" consist of a school cafeteria style meal (we had spaghetti [not particularly Scottish]--no other choices, and performances of fiddle and bagpipe music. Warning: The lunch is NOT anytime between the posted hours---if you arrive late, you'll all or most of the performances. The gift shop is worth a visit.

Nice boutique for a lot off choice on Scottish materials , also the place to be for late night in October for the Celtic Colours Festival

Judd WILSON

Saw a live concert as part of the Celtic Colours festival. More than 22 acts played. The music was fantastic. There are little signs around to let you know where the concrrt is being held or when the box office is open

Just like others have said, wonderful staff. Very helpful and welcoming. We toured the grounds and viewed the campus. Beautiful. The gift store is impressive too, and my Scottish friend found some of his own family’s heritage here. Worth checking out.

Colaisde na Gàidhlig or the Gaelic College is a complex with a stunning garden with numerous sculptures and a stunning view of the surrounding landscapes. The shop inside offers a variety of items from calendars over clothes to music. If you're interested in Gaelic culture, make sure to stop here and discover this beautiful place.

We visited the college last summer for the Family Week. Fabulous experience. Musically, they met the many levels of learning that we needed. The teachers were friendly, flexible, professional and very talented. As a professional musician myself, I learned a lot. My husband is an amateur musician and his needs were met. My daughter is a 15 year old semi-professional musician who found it not only met the musical requirements, but that she made good friends at the same time. We will go back.

A very enjoyable can be had here by arriving around 10:30 a.m. to attend the Kilt Wearing Demonstration, followed by a lesson in Gaelic, a step dancing and fiddling demonstration, and then the lunch-time ceilidh which for $15 includes a good cafeteria meal and great entertainment. Check their schedule for possible staff ceilidhs in the evenings.
