The most beautiful, pleasant and informative tour you can do in Skagway!

Leonard Eng

The Train ride is pretty pricy but in the end so worth the one time ride up the mountain. You get to see some spectacular views for great photo and video opportunities. Cabin is heated and you can go out to the platforms to get better shots of the surroundings. Being a national historical site does sway your decision.

We booked this excursion via our cruise ship company (Royal Caribbean) and we had a blast. Our excursion included this train ride, gold panning, and checking out a sled dog camp. We had a tour guide assigned to us all day who was very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas throughout the ride. However, the conductor himself did a great job providing some historic stories as well. The uphill ride to the Canadian border was 2 hours but went by rather quickly because of the constant stories and amazing scenery. Everyone we encountered was very friendly which made for a good train ride. The ride back down was about an hour. The old bridge that was decommissioned in the late 1960s was my favorite historic site. You are allowed to exit the car and hang outside. I highly recommend it as it's a different feel and you can get a better view as well. The views were phenomenal and I can't imagine trekking through this valley on horse and/or foot like how it was done over a hundred years ago. The left side of the train is the most scenic. Passengers will switch seats on the way back down so everyone gets to enjoy the view. Water and a bag of snacks is provided and is a nice touch. This is definitely a train ride to check out if you are a first time visitor to Skagway like myself. Enjoy the tour! =)

Kelvin Ng

Thoroughly enjoyed my trip. Highly recommend venturing into the train platform for a better view and getting wind in your face. Most people stayed inside the cabin to stay warm but if you can take the cold, you must try the platform.

Jim Tambini

Great rail day trip. Fantastic views fabulous and informative crew.

Renzo Millones

Beautiful places

Katie Strand

Amazing experience in Last week of May 2019. Just what we were looking for in our trip to shore. Gorgeous day with sunny weather that was hardly cold at all with a little sprinkle of rain here and there. Recommended

Tony Di Schino

Historic railroad with very informative and engaging guides on each car. Comfortable seats and great big windows for good views of the scenery.

martey miller

We did this excursion while on our Princess Cruise in Skagway, AK. This was the best! We did the one all the way to the Yukon Territory. I will do this one again if we ever make it back. Lots of wildlife, very nice people and the sled dogs were very nice, too.

Judy Gley

We weren't impressed with this tour. We took a bus up the white pass to the Summit. Nothing there to see, just the Canadian check point. There's only 11 people who live there and they work there. There's nothing there. I would of giving this a lesser rating than I did but our tour bus/guide, Heidi, was absolutely wonderful. You could tell that she enjoyed her job! She just radiated as she told us the history of the White Pass. Heidi shared so much knowledge about this place and pointed out the wild life when she came upon it. Heidi left us out in the middle of town so we could look around. We discovered we left our coats on the bus and she came looking for us to return them since her next Tour wasn't for another half hour. That's dedication to her tour guests and we really appreciate her!

Peter

Awesome train trip from sea level to White Pass on this historic railroad. A must for all at delightful Skagway.

Michael F. Stout

Great ride to the top with historical commentary

james collier

Beautiful views thru the mountains. Relaxing trip up and back. Highly recommend this.

Meinard Powers

Beautiful sites along the railway, great way to explore White Pass.

Ernur Mutlu

Nice to experience the gold rush trail, wonderful nature trip

Laura Wares

Awesome experience. Beautiful scenery.

Andrea Spallanzani

A great experience. It brings you back to the time of the gold rush.

Andrea Schellenberg

Excellent tour! Went into Carcross.

Matthew Carr

The rail trip was amazing, the views from inside and outside the cars can't be beat. Be sure to sit on the left side - it has 80% of the views.

Steve Anderson

Guides work long hours, but they were very upbeat, knowledgeable and friendly. Nice views, lots of pictures. You are on one side going up, and the other side going down, so everyone gets to see everything. Seats are comfortable enough, and there is a small platform to stand on outside. Snacks and souvenirs are available for purchase. Highly recommend.

rocio fernandez

Canadian zone is not available. So you only go half the way or less. Good but not as spectacular as much people told us.

VA_Duck

This was a highlight of a recent SE Alaska cruise. A narrow gauge railroad trip through the mountains from Skagway AK to Frasier Canada (bring the passport!) Approximately 2-hr each way; comfortable (though not luxurious) cars drag you past, lake, peaks, ravines, streams, a bear (maybe wandered off by now) and awful precipices ????. They'll let you stand between the cars once underway to get photos without an annoying window pane between. Yeah...it's for tourists, but just go with it anyway - you'll like it!

Ann Watts

Narrow gauge railroad that was built in 1898 for the Klondike gold rush. Too bad it was finished too late for them, but it sure gives us a thrill nowadays! You can still see things on the trail alongside that the miners dropped along the train - pickaxes, boots, pails, etc.

Will Crow

Nice excursion with beautiful scenery. Save a few dollars and buy tickets from the rail line instead of the cruise line.

Denise Easley

Amazing views! Raven gave a great presentation. Loved Skagway!

Greg Morrett

I highly recommend this excursion. We left the train depot located right in the little town of Skagway. We traveled up the mountain in one of 16 old fashioned train cars. Our tour guide was amazing explaining the rich history of the rail way and the reason it was built in the 1890's. The views up through the route are breathtaking. A must do if you are visiting Skagway. Takes approximately 2.5 hrs.

405Auto

Amazing scenery, jump on the historical train and go up the mountains, bring camera is awesome.

Gestler Mendoza

It's my family's first time crossing this border and were from Vancouver BC, this place is something to see in person to appreciate it.

Deborah P Matthews

This was the experience of a lifetime, to ride the railroad and experience the old West. The view is spectacular. I will never forget this tour. I would recommend this tour for young and the seasoned traveler. Magnificent.

Gwan Tio

Lovely nature but our train sadly broke down and we just stayed in the touristy down town and got a free ranger led tour.

Tyrone Schenk

The highlight of our Alaskan Cruise...the staff was great and the scenery was amazing. Worth every penny.

Jeremiah Reising

A beautiful train ride through the mountains and up to the Youkon. A little costly, but totally worth it to ride on a train from the gold mining days and for the beautiful views. Make sure to take your passport, you do venture into Canada.

DAMIENCKC

It a fantastic train ride

Michael De La Cruz

Love every minute of it❤

Greg Starr

Excellent experience. Definitely worth doing. Beautiful views of Alaska & Canada.

Brett Chandler

Great attraction. One of the most amazing train rides anywhere.

Victor Rodriguez

Amazing little town. so much fun. So much to see and do. Great people live here. On my spot to visit again next time I'm in the Alaska area. Came on a cruise and enjoyed every minute of the people here

William Coates

Beaches and open spaces and good coffee

Craig Blanock

The train departs from the dock and takes you on an informative, relaxing, visually stunning ride up a mountain pass. The views from the train are truely amazing. You are permotted to leave you seat and exit the car to take truely frightful pictures from the railings between the cars. The train cars have bathrooms and the do supply free water bottles. I would recommend possibly bringing mosquito repellent because while no mosquitoes were visible on the way up the pass, several joined the train while we were stopped at summit lake before the return ride.

Hayley Baldwin

It was okay. The bus up to the railroad was way better than the railroad itself. The views and lunch provided were great. The guide however only talked a few times for about 3 minutes each. Wasn't too exciting. All you hear is the train chugging over the rails the entire time plus a few cool views. Makes for a long 3 hour train ride. Everyone was very nice though! Plus you get a passport stamp in the Yukon at Carcross.

Scott Lee

Nice ride but nothing to write home about

Mayank Parekh

Beautiful and scenic, Skagway, Alaska

Jose San Martin

Beautiful scenery. Only part of trip due to repairs

Siddharth Gore

Once-in-a-lifetime experience. Views are absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous. The train went much higher than I expected. The narrator was entertaining and so informative. You can step into the open rails between cars for better photos. If you are visiting on a cruise, book the excursion early! Fun fact: the powerlines on the wooden poles along the railway were taken down because the local moose kept getting their antlers stuck in them

김정숙

I have naver seen this view in my life amazing nature made by God

Paula Cooper

Fun trip up the mountain on the train. Tour guide was phenomenal!

Will W

The train ride was fun with plenty of scenic views. I would have given this excursion 5 stars had they allowed us to get off the train at the top to stretch our legs.

Huey Duong

Extremely well run event. Staff is very knowledgable and friendly. Railroad ride was spectactular. Train was restored in a very good condition. But at $130/person we will be doing this only once. But still a must do once. Money needs to come from somewhere to maintain the tracks and train. Some parts of the track were very scary. Not for the faint of heart if you are afraid of heights. Get there early to get good window seats. You can only go to the train's outdoor platform. Can not cross trains.

Luke Judd

An absolutely must-see experience if you find yourself in Skagway. If you're coming on a cruise ship, DO NOT BOOK THE EXCURSION THROUGH THE CRUISE. We booked the same trip for $40 cheaper through a private charter company that isn't directly associated with any cruises, but guarantees they will get you back to your boat on-time. We took the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad which was $229 a person, and it was phenomenal. The sky was clear, the air was warm, we couldn't have asked for a more-perfect day. We booked the Bennett Lake Scenic Journey via Chilkoot Chaters, which takes you all the way from Skagway to Carcoss, Yukon Territory. On the regular trip purchased through the cruises or directly from the railroad, the train turns around in Carcross and takes you back down the same way you came up, but with Chilkoot Charters a minibus (36 passenger) picks you up in Carcoss and drives you back along the Alaskan Highway back to Skagway, which offers fantastic scenic views not available on the rail trip. The photos speak for themselves. The view on the train is breathtaking, Bennett Lake is spectacular with the mountains towering over it, and if you're lucky, you may get to see a serene reflection of the mountains on the lake. The fare may seem expensive, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you should take.

Gail Sowers

This is a can't miss in Skagway, AK. So much history, beautiful views, and making new friends in the process.

James USA

The sun, the weather, the spectacular views, and the ability to go whenever one needs to.

Melissa Hoffman

Train was not running due to a landslide. Ended up taking a bus instead, along a similar route. Not the same experience though.

Joe V

2.5 hour train ride to milepost 14 and back. Full run is not running due to covid restrictions. Nice train ride, some awesome views, free bottled water provided. Tourist guide narration. A bit steep in price 99.00 p/p, would have been 5 stars if it was priced more reasonably.

Barbara McGary

I recommend this tour if you are just wanting to see the scenery and see how far the explorers traveled and the terrain they experienced. However, if you want a tour with narration or interaction with a guide, this is not the trip for you. Basically, you will get on a train and travel up the white pass and back. There was very very little history or explanation of what was being seen. Did I mention very little? I highly recommend this company hiring a tour guide to interact with everyone or at least do a narration of history and sites.

Carolyn Hoffman

We enjoyed the train ride. It was a nice scenic route. I would recommend to go on the train ride

Griffin Halves

You must take a ride on this train it is so awesome the scenery

Mike Barlow

Super awesome ride through the mountains. I will never forget it

Rebecca Welch

We had a shorten trip due to work on the railroad tracks. The ride was nice and the the narrator was very good.

Patty Robinson

Absolutely gorgeous views & a really fun trip!!

Gdaddygeorge

We took the train up White pass from the cruise ship. It was very close to the cruise ship to get aboard the train. It was a fun train ride it was a beautiful day we could see all the way down to the water The scenery is magnificent see the mountain tops in the waterfalls. One of the old train trestles was still standing barely, was pretty interesting looking. We really enjoyed the ride. And of course they drop you off downtown so you can have more souvenir shops.

Anita Neff

Liked it very much

James Farris

Had a great time on the train and the views were incredible. We did the train and Denali all in one day and that might have been too much. Both were great but would probably been even better if we had split it up (9 hours riding was a bit much).

Paulo Gustavo

Skagway is unique in all aspects. Hike up the mountain, take the train tours as well. Relax and take it all in. Enjoy it to the MAX!

Benjamin Gold

Our helicopter ride was cancelled due to fog - the one excursion we had practically booked our Alaskan cruise for. We booked this train ride as a consolation and everyone was sure it would be boring. It was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Traveling through the mountains, disconnected from the world. Outstanding.

Ryan C

Awesome ride, there is an area to stand outside. Great for photo lovers.

Betsy Rodriguez

Amazing views! This train ride is a must to activity. You won't retreat it!

Al Yanchak

Breathtaking scenery. The White Pass rail tour was one of the highlights of our Alaska trip! Highly recommend.

Dustin Horton

This railroad journey is completely worth every penny. It offers beautiful, pristine views of the mountains and wilderness that you can't get any other way. We saw four bears on our way down the mountain, right next to the railroad tracks.

Kent Tsui

This was my second time on the White Pass rail. The veiws just don't get much better than this. To think this was the way people used to travel and what it took to originally build this rail trail. Amazing. Definitely a must do if you are in Alaska.

Emily Clarrey

White pass & The Yukon is a must do when visiting Skagway! Gorgeous views!

Don Chambers

Amazing landscape, knowledgeable informative tour guide

Jordan Luellen

Loved it and highly recommend this excursion.

The White Pass and Yukon Route (WP&Y, WP&YR) (reporting mark WPY) is a Canadian and U.S. Class II 3 ft (914 mm) narrow-gauge railroad linking the port of Skagway, Alaska, with Whitehorse, the capital of Yukon. An isolated system, it has no direct connection to any other railroad. Equipment, freight and passengers are ferried by ship through the Port of Skagway, and via road through a few of the stops along its route. The railroad began construction in 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush as a means of reaching the goldfields. With its completion in 1900, it became the primary route to the interior of the Yukon, supplanting the Chilkoot Trail and other routes. The route continued operation until 1982, and in 1988 was partially revived as a heritage railway. In 2018, it was announced that the railway would be bought by Carnival Cruise Lines for $290 million (USD). The purchase is to be finalized at the end of July. Today, the railroad is a subsidiary of Clublink and operated by the Pacific and Arctic Railway and Navigation Company (in Alaska), the British Columbia Yukon Railway Company (in British Columbia) and the British Yukon Railway Company, originally known as the British Yukon Mining, Trading and Transportation Company (in Yukon), which use the trade name White Pass and Yukon Route. The line was born of the Klondike Gold Rush of 1897. The most popular route taken by prospectors to the gold fields in Dawson City was a treacherous route from the port in Skagway or Dyea, Alaska, across the mountains to the Canada–US border at the summit of the Chilkoot Pass or the White Pass. There, the prospectors were not allowed across by Canadian authorities unless they had sufficient gear for the winter, typically one ton of supplies. This usually required several trips across the passes. There was a need for better transportation than pack horses used over the White Pass or human portage over the Chilkoot Pass. This need generated numerous railroad schemes. In 1897, the Canadian government received 32 proposals for Yukon railroads, and most were never realized.

Kate Kosche

Excruciatingly slow. Yes, the scenery is beautiful but the delays and SLOW crawl down the mountain room forever. No food for sale. Took SO long! Considering we only went a couple miles into Canada, all the passport stuff just slowed things down even more. And EXPENSIVE! So not worth it and would not do it again.

Nicole Levy

This train ride is SO worth it! It's beautiful and steeped in history. My husband and I splurged on the luxury class, and boy would we recommend the upgrade. We had fabulous service from Kellie and a much more customized tour! The regular railway seemed great too (and you get the same views for less), but not as comfy as our tour!

Kathie Smith

The scenery is breathtaking. The guide did an awesome job giving us so much Information & letting us know in advance what was coming up so we could get some good pictures. We did buy the DVD & watched it when we got home. Would love to go back.

Myrna Winslow

Love this narrated train ride.

Carol Wilson

Great train ride, the scenery is breathtaking. Seeing where people had to cross to get to where gold was discovered, is unbelievable!

Tess Wardle

We went on this train August 2017. It was a beautiful ride. However, we had an unusual circumstance that was not accommodated. We had arranged for our bikes to be brought to the drop off point with a bike tour group. We were told to ask to be put on the same train as the bike group so we could get our bikes when we reached the destination of Frazier. We were told to ask for Alison. We found her, explained our situation. She was unwilling to put us on the train with the group because she would have to rearrange people. Instead we were put on the very last train. By the time we were able to get off the train at Frazier, having to wait for customs check, the bike group had left with our bikes on their trailer. Alison had to lend her car for someone to run us to the summit to catch the bike group. We missed half of our planned bike ride due to her unwillingness to accommodate us. I have been disappointed in missing that portion of our bike ride ever since.

Bill Beatty

Spectacular.. Heart pounding trip through mountains and valleys...,Not cheap , but worth every dime.. A must see !

Breanna Bloomquist

Such an awesome experience. Loved that we could ride on the platform

Beverly Albrecht

Great train tour in Skagway

Emily Sparrow

Great train ride through the mountain passes, beautiful views, follow in the footsteps of the Gold Rush Stampeders... Tracks are mostly along west side of the mountain... Sit on the left side going north.

Aaron Stuart

Very knowledgeable staff and awesome tour.

Christopher Yee

Amazing views. Exhaust smoke was in the cabin at all times. Washroom is not female friendly. Does not go all the way to the Yukon.

Lauren

This train right was amazing!!!

Mike Schultz

Tyler, our rail guide, and Grant, our bartender, were great. Their commentary was comical and interactive. They made a 9 hour train ride from Whittier to Denali fly by. The views were spectacular!

Gerard Gardner

I saw a sun that never set

Ed Kirkpatrick

Train trip is iconic but short. U have to take bus up to Whitehorse. Staff read from notes and couldn't answer some questions.

Murray Lundberg

There are good reasons for the fact that the White Pass & Yukon Route railway has been the top-selling excursion in Alaska for most of the last 120 years. I've ridden it over 30 times since 1990, and will hopefully ride it many more times. For any railfan, this is a world-class trip, and the longer you spend on it, the better. The vast majority of people just do the shortest excursion, to the White Pass Summit, but the train/bus combination from Skagway to Fraser and back is far better, and if you can, the views along Lake Bennett on the route to the end of the line at Carcross are stunning. Have a look at their other options, too, including the one that's powered by a steam locomotive, and the Campers' Excursion from Carcross to Bennett and back, which offers the chance for an in-depth look at the Klondike Gold Rush ghost town of Bennett.

John Wheby

This is a "must-do" in Skagway. Excellent scenery with great narration from the crew. Very comfortable railcars, with a restroom in each. Railcars also have big windows for taking lots of pictures.

Kendall Brune

My favorite adventure in Alaska-!

Joseph Gueary

If for nothing but the fresh clean air and fragrant evergreens!!! A great train ride with beautiful views and Sasquatch cameos. The Water Closet is also interesting, but clean.

Kim Lewis

Beautiful and just so much fun

Panowork.com魔鬼哥哥

By sitting on the train, you can see the beautiful scenery around you, and at the same time let you fully feel the hardship and sadness of gold diggers and adventurers in the old days.

Michael Miller

Very pricey. VERY. However; the trip is very scenic. Train is comfortable. Narration was quite good. It's a splurge, but worth it for one trip.

Jeremy Gates

What a chance of a lifetime to take a ride on this amazing train. The scenery is breathtaking and the air smells so crisp and clean. A must do if you visit Skagway

elsa gonzalez

Amazing views! An absolute must!

Sebastian st-laurent

Definitely a must. The service was great and the views are well worth it. Tip: bring a snack and something to drink they don’t have anything on-board Step outside as well to take beautiful pictures well worth it.

Carole McCorry

Great package with combination bus trip up the canyon, dog sled demos great museum that is a must see. Train ride down is ideal

Mike Donovan

The ride was comfortable and the narrator entertaining. The views were incredible and the history lesson invaluable. Lunch was pretty good, too! Look for surprises left along the track (loved the armadillo)!

Paula Barnes

Wonderful narrow gauge railroad - we had a fabulous trip down to Skagway! We boarded at Fraser, BC and the scenic ride was spectacular! Would do it again if we could get back up there! Bling Blinky of TEXAS Shout Out: A REPEAT ITEM on The Bucket List - 1 ride on the White Pass Yukon is not enough in 1 lifetime!! Stunning and unforgettable!

Curtis Whiting

It's a long ride, but the scenery is amazing. Almost better than the red rocks of Southern Utah.

John Sutton

If you can, sit on the left side on the ride up, then the right side on the way back. Better yet, spend time on the outside platform to get some spectacular photo opportunities!

Josephine D. Xiong

Pricey train ride from Disney Cruise but so worth it! Views alone are out of this world, especially nearing the top! Want to go camping here in the future!

Roberta Powell

What an amazing journey. This leg of our trip from Seward to Anchorage traveled through some of the most beautiful country I've ever seen. The train was clean the people were courteous and helpful giving us warnings of sites we'd want to get pictures of in time to be in the perfect place.

Wielhelm Evenhuis

A lovely way to spend time comfortably, and see the beauty of this area. Be seated on a warm clean train car. A guide will narrate what there is in view. A friendly and helpful group of guides are working on the train. Clean well run timely travel for a great experience consider this as a tour of choice. I have been on this tour twice and it was a high point for me.

Bradley

Beautiful scenery! Professional tour guide! Easy access. Signage could be better, but overall- great experience!

Alex Granas

Amazing trip through nature and history. Is you're in Skagway, it's a must.

Todd Tomlinson

A must do while in Skagway AK

Patrick Roberts

Fun train ride we took the train all the way to carcross they had alot of knowledge about the Yukon gold rush

Russ Clough

Great views... If you get decent weather. Knowledgeable and accommodating staff/guides.

Carly Fisher

The train was running about 45 mins behind but The conductor graciously radioed to SeaPlanes to get my friend’s flight switched so she wouldn’t miss! Talk about service! We had a beautiful, clear day. Top notch views and staff.

John Noland

The railway stop shown in the first two photos is just outside town. We passed it walking from the cruise ship to the town of Skagway. Nice town, especially if you like shopping at jewelry stores. The town has stayed true to it's Roots. Almost all of the building are the original circa 1900 wooden structures.

Scott Jones

Okay, I will admit that I am a train head. But, the 67 mile ride from Carcross, Yukon Territory to Skagway was the greatest, most beautiful tour that I have ever taken. I have traveled the world, and I cannot express the joy of riding on the back platform of the last car. The scenery through the mountains was incredible. Pay the extra $$$ and take the full ride.

Kelly Hall

When you're a town a small as Skagway Alaska and end up with tens of thousands of visitors almost each day you had better have your attraction game down! The White Pass and Yukon route railroad is definitely an attraction worth your time and money when visiting Skagway. They have numerous trains that run throughout the day that are well-narrated and a comfortable journey up to the top of White pass and further on if you so desire. Even passengers with mobility issues are able to access the train cars to view the beautiful scenery and learn about the Yukon gold Rush days. This attraction is highly recommended!

Julie Hampton-Meagher

Emerald lake was stunning and we saw a bear and her cub

David Burg

The attraction to see in Skagway. Too bad all the sights are passed through without stopping for proper photo taking or even just enjoying the sights.

Edward Rutherford

Great adventure to the great gold fields in the Canadian Rockies.. the ponds.. rivers.. and lakes are exquisite.. riding in old train car and enjoying the great scenery.. it is not to be missed .

John Brinkworth

Fantastic journey, superb views and a very knowledgeable guide who made you feel the trials of the prospectors.

Willem van der Westhuizen

A trip up memory lane in a traditional steam locomotive gold digger style. The Whitepass tour takes one up the traditional railway line from Skagway to Whitehorse. A very scenic route.

Maria Olarte

Awesome people! Amazing place. I'll go back as often as I can

JAH shoo uh HYNZ man

I've always loved trains. When I heard Skway had one, I was all on board. The train itself is pretty neat. The route it takes is spectacular. I'd definitely recommend this as an excursion if you're available to do it.

Danny Pell

Amazing ride to White Pass on the old scenic railroad, loads of wildlife and fantastic views that cannot be seen in any other way

Jonatan Almanza V.

Great place, just like the old times, now a touristic train that will take you depending which combination you do, either to car cross crossing. CANADA, or just to other stops in the states.

preethi rao

Great views and overall good experience! one of my favorite trips! good train ride too. we went in 2015, and it was a very scenic route

Jo Ann Jones

Wonderful ride and narrative. A good way to see the scenery.

Dan K

Amazing, definitely try to do this of you're ever in alaska/Canada. Stunning views and roomy seats.

Mark Black

A very quaint town for sure. I will return in a non cruise format so we can enjoy more of the town.

Felipe Chaves

Its a nice journey on the wagons, you will cross the border

jeff starke (iseektoknow)

Going to the White Pass Summit-All aboard! Walking by the downtown area in Skagway they have a few activities you can partake in. Coming off our cruise ship we saw the trains going to White Pass and decided to try it out. The vintage trains are colorful and seemed to be well maintained. We purchased tickets at the train station and waited for our train. There were other trains coming in and out for different groups of people. It was rather busy at the time we were boarded. You get a great view no matter where you sit. They have water available and bathrooms in each train car. The knowledgeable staff gave the history of the Klondike Gold Rush and some statistics like 35,000 people worked on the railroad at one time or another. It was pretty amazing that the train tracks could be built under such harsh conditions. You can stand between the train cars to get a better view or take a photo of the breathtaking scenery. Inside you can hear the narrations of what photo-ops are coming up. If you are outside you won't here when the next photo-op is coming. It's a 3 1/2 hour ride to the summit and back. You sit on one side to the summit and the seats reverse and you move to the the other side of the train coming back down. So you get to see both sides of this fantastic journey. It was amazing at the tight turns this trains makes you can almost touch the mountainside. These are the areas that they used dynamite to blast through the mountains. Even though the train ride was great; if I was to do it again, I'd do the train/bus combo package. That is taking the train up to the Summit and riding back on the bus. The bus makes more frequent stops and has different vantage points. Even though I love trains, 3 1/2 hours was even a bit long for me. Maybe I'd bring a snack to pass the time.

Mark Timken

Great experience! Riding an old fashioned train up the mountain to Yukon territory. Heartily recommend this excursion to visitors!

Joseph Hoover

We took the train from Denali National Park to Anchorage. Thoroughly incredible experience. Terrific view of Mt Mckinley! Wonderful views along the way. We saw wildlife along the way. Had a good lunch on the train. The rail trip is recommended.

Tommy D

If you love to travel and see the best sights, take this tour because it is not one you will forget. The knowledgeable guides point out all of the need to see sights and actual paths the gold miners took that are still visible to this day. Be on the lookout for moose, bears, eagles and mountain goats....and maybe a surprise or two! Definitely recommend

Juan Sandoval

Weather was perfect late September and fall colors were amazing. White Pass Railroad is a must do when your there.

Ying Lan

We didn't cross the boarder but the scene all the way up was spectacular! Train ride was comfortable. I recommend riding on the left side on the way up even though they ask you do a mandatory side switch on the top so everyone gets to see the scenic side. Plenty of water on board and a small washroom in each car. Feel free to step outside to take pictures. Inside the car was nice and toasty, I fell asleep on the way back. Narrator was decent onboard.

marlene lawrence

Very historical, clean and beautiful scenery.

Matt Alfieri

What an absolutely stunning trip! I had such a good time and got so many great photos. One of the top 2 highlights of the trip by far! the crew was really nice and friendly and helpful as well.

John Gledhill

Continuing with our Alaskan adventure, today we called in at Skagway. An interesting little town that seems to be very reliant on tourists and in particular the cruise ships that call in whilst touring the glaciers. After spending the morning around the town, we decided to climb aboard the White Pass and Yukon railway that climbed around 3000 feet or so above sea level to White Pass summit then back down to Skagway doing approximately 40 miles as a round trip. To maximise your enjoyment of this 3 1/2 hour trip do your history homework on the Klondike gold rush in advance as this will certainly help you appreciate what you will experience. The trip cost $270 usd and for me was not good value for money. Unless you have a keen interest in the gold rush years and want to see some of the vast route used by thousands of people to reach the Klondike or, you have a passion for lots of green trees and rock faces then be prepared to be disappointed as there’s not a great deal else for a huge ticket price.

David Nicholson

An amazing small gauge railroad that takes you through the areas of wilderness that the prospectors during the gold Rush trailblazed and eventually built the railroad from Skagway port to White Pass Canada. Breathtaking views.

Lina Vallee

Took the 3 hour train ride scenic tour and it was awesome. The staff on the train were very informative and helpful.

Ronen Tzvik

Highly overrated, very boring, very slow, the same views all the way.

Danielle Grota

My mother has limited mobility, and never got a passport. Skagway was all about the gold rush and the trails to the Yukon, so we were afraid we wouldn't get to experience much more than just the (very windy) town. The railway was a great option that passes just slightly into Canada, and since we didn't disembark, it didn't matter that my mom had no passport. She was also able to sit the whole ride, and did not miss any of the panoramic views from her position. If you're in a similar situation to us, this is a great option to see some fantastic views and hear history from a knowledgeable guide. Now.... I should mention I personally have a fear of heights and that meant every time we went over a bridge or they said "look directly down," it was pure vertigo. I tended to look straight out instead, and saw a few surprises hidden along the track by some cheeky comedian. I was told by the guide there are 6 hidden surprises like this on the ride.

Julia Ruditser

Super trip, everyone should take it if there. Beautiful view and great informative team will make it unforgettable experience.

Rick Nobers

Very close to the port and within maybe a five minute walk. This is a scenic train ride of maybe 3 hours. It comes to a complete stop and reverses direction and isn't a loop. The train itself is comfy and is basically one large window so you can see everything regardless of the side you are sitting on. You will ride through forests, gorges, see waterfalls, river rapids, bridges, etc. It is a nice relaxing ride and I found peace within myself.

Scot Barker

The train ride is once in a life time experience. Highly recommend it

Donna Vild

The train was a little unnerving, but offered a glimpse into the old Alaska mining days. I recommend if you like history and trains, not if you are afraid of heights and ledges.

Naomi Burnside

Fun tour and great tour guide. I just wanted to stop a bit more for photos.

Heidi Lamb Castle

A very fun Alaska experience. Beautiful views, and historic legacy. Great paired with Jack London writings.

Michael Cook

Beautiful scenery. Great tour guide. Beautiful weather.

Stuart Combs

Beautiful scenery and great train ride!

D Baker

Great time, glad each car had it's own bathroom which is great for 3 hour trips.

Roamin' Rich

An amazing tour! There's nothing like it while visiting Skagway. They kids loved it and so did I. It was great hearing about the history of the area especially everything the gold rush miners went through. I owuld do this trip again for sure!

Brenda Wallace

They were repairing the track, so we missed allot

Dan Swan

Amazing views.

Levi Davis

Great tour! Saw so many beautiful sights along the route. Parents please keep in mind, the standard tour is 3.5 hours. Children will get quite restless on a long trip.

heath

It was a beautiful and adventurous trip in the mountains. A must-see in Skagway.

Mark

It was a great experience; surely worth the money and time. The train ride was the right choice.

Russell Avocato

Really nice views. Cramped seats, only offered water bottles so plan accordingly, meh.

Audrey Frazier

The train was so much fun! One of my favorite parts of our visit to Alaska! People were nice.

TM Author

Breathtaking Views. Exciting train ride with amazing views. Three hour looping ride, so you get views of the opposite side on the way back. No food served onboard, but there are restrooms. You do not get off the train, then again why would you? The narration by a young guide, while informative, was uneven and towards the end of the ride clearly campaigning for a tip, which considering that the tour was expensive I felt wasn't appropriate. Plus there were long stretches where the PA narration was absent. Nevertheless, I highly recommend the ride for one-of-a-kind panoramic views and an exciting ride.

David Harper

This was a great little excursion and a lot of fun, but very far overpriced at $129/person through Royal Caribbean. I would still recommend it none the less given that there is no other way to get this kind of excursion in Skagway. The train was a little slow and at times somewhat boring, but other times it was full of spectacular views and one of a kind sites. I really enjoyed myself, but think they charge far too much for this. If I were to do it again, I would try to see if there are alternatives to booking through the cruise line, but would take it anyway even at the cost.

Steeven Kistnen

There is no word to explain that experience because you really need to do it then you will understand what I mean...???? Anyway you will understand by have a look at my pictures ????

T J Tan

A very historical railway route in Alaska, it's worthwhile to take the experience of a lifetime. Don't forget to bring your passport because it crossed the US and Canada border.

Skyler G

Beautiful scenery. Only regret is train doesn't stop at the summit to allow for better view.

Scott Hetzel

Best railroad experience !!! Take a trip through time and learn about the miners and see the ultimate mountain terrain and bridges. Capture the Alaska wilderness at it's best.

Shade Dufrene

Fun experience, beautiful scenery, the train ride is pretty cool. If you're on the "other side" of the train, don't worry, you'll see everything on the way back!

Robert Flanagan

Great ride & friendly staff

Gary Baldus

What a great way to see so much history and wonderful mountains! Great family event!

Leslie Ortiz

This is awesome and beautiful experience with the best nature scenes

Sheila McDonald

Great tour guides, beautiful sightseeing. We highly recommend.

Mark “Mark” Herbord

Very clean train. Heated cars and great views. Ride was short due to rail conditions but still had many great views. You can step out the door and ride on the deck you just can't cross from car to car. The big windows don't open but the very small windows at the top open. There was nice steps to get on and off the train. There is also a nice restroom on every train for the ride.

Jonathan Seymour

40 mile round-trip Railway built in the last 1900's and is seen as one of the Historic Civil Engineering Landmarks, along with the Eiffel Tower. Excellent time

Shirley Congleton

Beautiful way to see the country!!! They provide water and you are able to walk about the train and outside. Highly recommend this trip. May need your passport since it goes all the way up to Canada.

Ken Schmidt

Great adventure with so much history behind it.

Bill C

I was able to check this place out during a port visit for our Alaskan cruise. Great place to see things without spending any extra money.

Ultraman

Awesome view and educational history on how this trederous railroad was built in thebYukon gold rush time.

John Tieben

The bus to train transfer was very easy. The scenery was beautiful and the history overview of the trail was good.

Don

Dining experience was sub par, however the river boat cruise was relaxing and very enjoyable.

dan lim

The White Pass Train ride is very scenic. About 2 hrs to Canada. The weather was clear when we rode so great picture taking.

Bob Bandy

We took a 20 person bus instead of the train because it is half the cost and the bus makes several stops along the eay including a cute little visitor center in Canada, inside the Yukon province at the suspension bridge, where you stamp your passport.

Gregory Redick

Definitely worth taking. Just hope the clouds cooperate so you can take in the scenery

Erin Pernikoff

Amazing! Between learning about the history of both the rail and the Yukon gold rush as well as the ever changing scenery, this is a must see! Make sure your camera is charged!

John Watson

The one thing you just HAVE to do in Skagway!

Steve Esser

A fun and highly interesting view from the train and this scenic area. The train ride was a must to gage the sheer beauty of this area into the Yukon.

Edwin Wright

Very scenic but kind of pricy

Brian Best

Beautiful scenery! We were lucky to be there on a clear day.

jon caldeira

Our bus guide,George was great ,the stops at village and bbq lunch with sled dogs was fun and train ride ,beautiful also!

Cassandra Y

Got off from the cruise ship.... walking distance about 15 minutes to the train station. Love the cute little train station. The staffs at the ticket office are super friendly. There is a gift shop and snacks shop. You can do some shopping or grab a coffee while you are waiting for the train! The view is gorgeous and love to witness part of the history.

Mike Sowko

The views are amazing. The fact that you can step out onto the ends of the cars makes all the difference. Stunning!

G. Adam Elliott

The most beautiful train ride I've taken in my whole life. The views were shocking.

Mike McCallum

Love this train ride..I thought it was a lil high in price but when we got on..well worth it.. beautiful scenery..and lots of history...if u get a chance ride it

Scott Colgrove

Fantastic train ride into and stunningly desolate part of Alaska/Canada. Well worth the time and cost. Remember to bring your passport!

Our Home Has 6 Wheels

This is a must do trip if you are visiting Skagway or Whitehorse in the Yukon as we were. We booked a trip in Whitehorse and a bus picked us up from our RV Park, drove us down to Fraser, BC where we met the White Pass & Yukon train.. The bus stopped at Emerald Lake and Carcross on the way down. The train ride itself is spectacular, particularly if you get lucky and have some clear weather...not always the case in this part of the country. There are amazing views and really interesting stories of the history of the stampeders treking over this route and the construction of the railroad which was a remarkable feat of engineering. We were on the regular diesel trains for our trip. Being train lovers we would love to go back and do the steam excurison.

Shane Burt

Skagway is pretty awesome! Highly recommend the train ride through White pass, and definitely a helicopter up to the glacier; views to die for and worth every penny!

Leon Tkach

The view is beautiful from the tracks, but the ride is so long and slow that it gets pretty boring. Also i felt it's really overpriced. Overrated.

Robie Bowen

Enjoyed it but I wish we could get the full ride. ????

Barry Keane

A fabulous trip to end a visit through Alaska & Yukon before catching the cruise ship in Skagway back to Vancouver

Samantha Barry

It was good but you should read up on the town's tales yourself first the guide on the train skipped ao much it was crazy! A great day but it was made alot richer by doing some homework ahead of time.

Steve Johnson

We came on a beautiful day and really enjoyed the ride up and back. Pick the left side to get the best valley view on the way up (I think that it is a little longer time-wise since the train is slower going uphill) and side-of-the-mountain going down. You are not allowed to exit the train (there are no stops) or move from car-to-car once it starts moving. Our car was full, so no moving to other seats for us. It is worth making it out to the outside platforms at least once. Our car had a platform hog who just stood there the entire trip and wouldn't share, but there is a platform on each end of the car. There are no food options, but bottled water is provided. Each car has one restroom, which nobody seems to know how to use--it takes 3 pumps to purge your poo, please. Informative guides makes announcements throughout the trip to point out sites of special interest. Recommended.

John Mingus

Excellent train ride and tour. Loved the views.

Michelle Argue

Breathtaking views! This train ride was simply amazing!!! About a 3 hour ride, and about 2700 feet above sea level. Totally awesome excursion.

Sandra Locascio

Great train ride to the summit where the US borders Canada. The tour narrator tells a great story as you pass through beautiful terrain and waterfalls.

Tracie Peters

Oh this was really great for a last minute decision. We got just the "cheap" tickets and were not disappointed! Beautiful vistas, great pictures and be on the lookout for "Sasquatch"... statues. Do this!

Jack Kreno

Took a cruise with my wife to Alaska a couple of years ago. I took the train tour while my wife shopped. A little pricey but worth it. Scenery is breath taking, be sure to take your camera. Train trip not for the faint hearted, track hugs the steep sides of the mountains. Very exciting trip, was sorry when it was over. Would definitely do it again if I ever get back. Jack

Ashley Bednarz

Amazing trip and experience of a lifetime! Glass dome cars, gourmet food and the service is exquisite!

Pam Williams

It was a very nice train ride. Beautiful views and agree old scenery.

Katelyn Bodwell

Such a great trip! It goes slower than I expected but the views are stunning and the train has a very cool old railroad feel. I loved being able to stand on the deck outside! It is also wheelchair accessible!

Dayton Uphold

A very fun ride up through the Klondike Pass! Unfortunately, due to the a rockslide, we were only able to make it to Mile Marker 15 (bridge was out, it's being replaced). That said, it is TOTALLY worth it. The scenery is like nothing you have ever seen. Just those 14 1/2 miles were AMAZING! From the Skagway River below to the mountain peaks that stretch into the clouds above, it's just beautiful and amazing, like nothing you will see in the Lower 48. I highly recommend, even just for the current 14 1/2 miles, to take that journey. It is completely worth it. :)

Andy Smith

Really enjoyable excursion upon towards the Yukon, seeing Alaska at its most rugged. The changes in the weather, almost by the minute, we're breathtaking.

Kristopher V

Excellent trip! Amazing views you can't get anywhere else on the planet.

Dee Dee Foodie4life

This Train ride is absolutely a must ride while visiting Alaska. The heights and views are magnificent. If you dare brave go outside between the trains. It's so exciting. Thank you for such a fabulous experience...

Gary Crispens

This is an excellent tour that goes on the same train tracks and same route that the gold miners used to bring gold out of the Yukon and takes people and supplies in. It is a scenic route up the mountains to Frazier Canada.

Russ K. CSE

We happen to sit in the car that had the announcer/guide. The train ride is a must do on your list when visiting.

Jeff Smith

Really enjoyed this excursion. I like trains, but the bus part was the best part of the trip

Brian Howerton

The you and I'll be very friendly staff. And the coffee was great after spending 2 days on a cruise ship.

vanessa covita

One of the best train ride I ever had. The views from the mountain and falls was spectacular and amazing

lily Leavitt

It is beautiful and has great commentary throughout the triangle ride. It is very clean, the bathrooms and all!

Shellie Baucom-Warner

Friendly staff and a nice tour from our cruise line. Such a beautiful place.

Chris Miller

GREAT ride! My wife wanted to do this and I was hesitant, but we enjoy it tremendously.

Thomas House

Great 3 hour train ride in an amazing setting

dbairedale

Tucker, our tour guide/bus driver, was a wealth of knowledge, history and local trivia. He made the bus ride up a wonderful experience!

Melaina Pattie

Really fun tour for adults or kids are ith a lot of history and fun things to look at.

Rebecca Wiinikainen

Fun ride, spectacular views! I stayed out on the balcony most of the ride. Unfortunately the bridge was out on mile 15 so can only go as far as mile 15, but was still very much worth it.

Terry Leister

OK, so I am a railway buff and I will ride a train at any opportunity. Such us life, but this is no ordinary train ride. The line us historically significant and the trip is pure magic. The only thing that could make it better is to have a steam loco pulling the train but that was not the case for my trip. We were picked up at the Cruise Ship pier and returned there. The train was comfortable and there was ample opportunity to get outside to take photos. This is a must do when you visit Skagway, even if you are not a train buff.

Ian Leeson

A wonderful vintage train ride through a remote part of Alaska and Yukon. Make sure you check this side trip out when you are in Skagway.

Kyle Zobel

This was one of the single most amazing things I have done in my while life. As a lover of trains, that alone was cool but the route, history, and sheer beauty of the landscape make this a spectacular ride. A must do for anyone on a cruise or going to visit the area

Tom Arbuckle

Relaxing ride, beautiful scenery, great narration. I wish other passangers realized if they would toughen up a bit, tolerate a chill in the air, and keep the doors open at each end of the train car, the windows wouldn't constantly fog up obstructing everyone's view out the windows. On our train ride some people just wanted to run there mouths instead of look at the scenery.

Dan Wilding

If you only have be time for one excursion in Skagway, i recommend the White Pass Train ride. The scenery is amazing... Beautiful forests, multiple water falls, you can't possibly miss the ingenuity and determined Spirit of the creatores of the White Pass Railroad... It is simply remarkable what they accomplished. The staff is wonderful the narration is insightful. The walk to the train from the ship is only a couple hundred yards, so it's quick and easy. When you return after the train ride, they drop you at the train station in the middle of Skagway too, so it's kind of like a two for one deal. I hope you enjoy....

Siegfried Kronheim

Great experience, the views where fantastic

Fabio Rosario Ruotolo

an adventure at three hundred and sixty degrees in the Gold Rush, a small train journey that makes you relive those moments of frenzy and difficulty instant by instant, I recommend it

J. Lambert

Best excursion, the railway was awesome! Worth every penny!

Phil Leichtweis

This is a fabulous train ride that takes about 4 hours round trip (longer excursions available for those not on a timetable). The views are breathtaking and the railcars are original (restored) from the Alaska gold rush era. We booked our train ride thru our cruiseship and are glad we did. If you ever visit the inside passage of Alaska be sure to go to Skagway and put this train ride on your bucket list.

Matthew Lomas

DO NOT MISS THiS TRIP!!! My Wife and I took this shore excursion on August 27 2019, we were not able to get all the way to White pass because of a land slide about 3/4 of the way there, very disappointing. However we were given a FULL refund and a hat and DVD! We were not expecting a full refund because we still got to see some of the most spectacular scenery that you could imagine. Stunning, do not miss this train ride, worth every cent. If you leave from Skagway, sit on the left on the way up for the best view.

Ben Newsome

Very cool scenery and history. It's nice that on the return trip, the train is turned around, so if you didn't have a good view on the way up, you'll get it on the way down. I did find it odd that the guide seemed to repeat the exact same info on the way down though. Also, our trip was about four hours, which felt like a long time to be on a train.

Greg McIntyre

Beautiful views. Excellent History. Great tour guides.

Chuck Black

I would've given 5 stars however the trip to the summit was not possible due to maintenance. Turn around 2/3 Journey. Really enjoyed the trip and guide tho'.

Daniel Alves

Highly recommend. I had a amazing time traveling in this train. Beautiful scenery.

Mel

Took this on the celebrity millennium tour that did the biking afterwards. An awesome 1.5 hour train ride with beautiful views and a crossover into Canada with passport check. A must see for sure, especially coming in on a cruise ship and having it as an optional excursion.

Bryan Hutchinson

Amazing trip on old narrow gauge. Wonderful views overall a great train experience. Expesive but well worth it.

Rita Allen

Hope to go back when the pass in it's entirety opens back up. They were redoing a bridge so we had to stop at the 14th mile in.

Mike Mendez

Loved our shuttle van tour with Skagway Tours up through the Yukon.

Cara Knipe

The views are incredible. The trips commentary was informative and friendly. I would personally sit on the left side of the train for departure. Both sides see everything as it turns around in Canada and comes back, but all the views are pretty much on one side. So its whether you want to see them on the way to Canada or back. We did the 2.5 hour ride to White Pass and it was plenty. I wouldn't expect to see much wildlife although if you're careful you might see some mountain goats.

Syan Patel

When we borded there was this rude white lady who was looking for tickets and we showed her the tickets she said go to the back of the line for no reason. Her name is Megan Ellis she is so rude and bitchy. I've never met such a rude person in my life.

Wendy Hatton

Fabulous.Awesome. Spectacular. We were the last ride of the year and the weather was a perfect 54, sunny and clear blue sky's. While that can not be garunteed for everyone the WhitePass railroad is definatly worth it. The train was adorable, we rode in the same carriage as Queen Elizabeth, and the views were breathtaking. Would ride again and again if possible.

Maria Marvin

Excellent excursion. Take the back carriage as you can hang out the back of the train and see incredible views. We were kinda spoilt as we had sun and blue skies.

Kara Jones

The train ride was a nice experience but much of the scenery was obscured by clouds. I'm providing less stars because the price is quite steep given that the trip is shorter (train turns around after 14 miles due to a bridge repair after that). In addition, I would have liked to learn more from our tour guide, who had some great stories and historical info but was quiet for most of the return trip.

Laurie

Went May 2018.. Beautiful day. Blue sky sunny. Was totally worth it Very informative .

Brian Yoksh

The train crew were great. They allowed us to leave the cabin during the ride for the outside covered section between trains which made for better pictures. The narrator was great about telling us what was coming so we could be ready to see and take photos. I especially liked Rocky Point view and included photos where you can see all the way down the valley to Skagway!

Jan Erwinson

Nice view on top the mountain

Juanita Wagner

Wow! Once again stunning views from this panoramic train. Way into the montains, valleys, emerald lakes and waterfalls where you would never expect it. The air is so pure and the Yukon still but amazingly beautiful. If you go to Alaska this is the excursion you want to take.

Beth

Very rewarding train ride. Beautiful scenery narrated by an enthusiastic group of guides.

Madison H

I've done this train ride a couple of times and it's always fantastic. Beautiful views, informative narration, and really accessible. It has a reputation as the best excursion in Skagway for a reason. If you're not up for the more adventurous tours but still want to take in the scenery and learn about the gold rush history, this is for you.

Tom McManus

Fun town and a great destination. We didn't ride the train.

Mitchell Golemic

One of the best excursions on our Alaskan cruise.

Marilou Tolentino

Skagway is the third port of call of our Alaska cruise. You cannot miss this spot as there seems to be only one major road leading to the cruise port and you have to pass by this train terminal.

Nick Sischo

Fantastic Yukon railroad full of historic details and amazing vistas.

jill lance

Enjoyed the scenic ride. Foggy at the top Wonderful commentary throughout the the ride. Liked to to pictures from the platform between the cars.

Chris Wilberg

Excellent views and very informative tour guides. Not to be missed if you are in the area!

Mason Reilly

For the cost, I think there are much better things to do in Alaska, and even just in Skagway. First off - the train ride is kind of cool. In my opinion, it's 3-4 times as expensive as it should be. This doesn't come as a surprise, as it's owned by Holland America, so it has turned into a cheap touristy cash grab. The staff are not knowledgeable and not the most friendly, although I'm sure they are underpaid and overworked. The good parts are the views. There are some pretty nice sights to see, but you will only see them if you REALLY luck out and score a clear day in Skagway. Much more likely, you'll just see fog. My top recommendation in Skagway is scooter rentals. You can rent a tiny motor scooter for super cheap, and they'll tell you the best places to go. You can see the whole town and venture out quite a bit to some pretty remote locations. Second to that, I recommend going to a bar or restaurant away from the main street.

Danny Sell

THE MAIN TRESSEL IS CLOSED!!!! YOU ONLY DO ABOUT 1/2 THE TRIP AS USUAL RIGHT NOW!!! THEY DONT INFORM YOU OF ANY OF THIS AND MOST THE TIME THEY SPEND MESSING ABOUT WITH THE ENGINE. 144 DOLLARS FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES OF ACTUAL TOUR!!!! THE SPEAKERS DIDNT WORK SO ALL WE LISTENED TO WAS THE CLICK CLACK OF THE APPARENTLY POORLY MAINTAINED TRACK!!!

Tom Capote

This was such a great trip, surrounded by nature and history, such a beautiful area!

Myke S

Great scenic railway journey. I'd recommend a camera and binoculars to really get the most out of the experience.

Kevin Sheehan

Service is always quick and very personable. The food was the star. Best Cantonese style I've ever had. Menu was very extensive and everything is delicious.

Marsha Newman

Took a bus up this wonderful mountain vista, and crossed into British Columbia, Canada. Different contrasting topography makes for wonderful photography.

Tim Weinberg

A great ride on the train, up the mountain and back. The new turn-around at the top in Canada is nice. Great views and history along the way

Marjorie B

Beautiful scenic train ride. Took us into Canada and provides a great view of the valley and ocean.

Farhadul Islam

Most scenic view

Robert

The scenery was beautiful and peaceful. You must realize that we must take better care of this planet we share.

Teddy Bourgeois

The ride is expensive...but definitely a must-to in your life. The views are tremendous! It takes a couple hours but is very enjoyable

Barb Golliet

Enjoyed the train ride up and down the mountain! The narrator was really knowledgeable. The train is accessible for wheelchairs and scooters on certain cars. They have a lift. Conductors were helpful.

Alan Fenstermacher

Great ride very informative

Brian Schaaff

We went on this Ride and Enjoyed Every Minute of it, beautiful Scenery and Awsome views of the Ravines and Glaciers. So sorry to hear about it's derailment the following day and hope they can get back on schedule after the required repairs are completed and inspected.

Linda Austen

Not to be missed shore excursion. Do not pass the dogsled ride up - a highlight of our entire trip.

Adi Singla

We took the 9 hour trip. Totally worth it. Don’t miss the ice-cream where the train stops for 15-20 minutes.

Edward Jones

The railroad was incredible. Amazing views while you climb over three thousand feet in a train. Definitely bring your camera as you cross wooden bridges and go through tunnels . Finally end up in Canada and from there you can bike down the mountain road back into the US.

Wayne Clark

We took a van up and the railroad down. This was by far the best excursion we took while in Alaska. The train is very comfortable albeit a bit noisy.

Jeff Emmons

This was a great train ride. I stood outside the entire trip going up using my gopro. What a really great video. The scenery was amazing. The narration of the trip was very informative. A must do trip when visiting Skagway. Great for the whole family.

Mark Yager

Spectacular scenery! It'd be great if they'd make a car for photographers though. To take good pictures you have to stand outside the car and there is only room for 1 person there. They have a guide that comes through the car a few times during the trip, as well as announcements that tell you the stories of what you're seeing. They have a very small bathroom in each car and they provide bottled water.

Kimmie Bear

We loved getting to ride on the train, and the guide covered a lot of cool facts about the places we were seeing.

4everTrump

Do this! Take the one that starts in Canada, one way. Starts on a bus. Awesome scenery. The tracks hug a gorge and retrace the original Yukon railroad from gold rush days. Well worth the money. I would go again tomorrow if I could.

Ximena F

It's a really nice town were you can buy the best ???? ice cream in the world!!

Linda Rûnkèl

Do not miss the train ride if you are in Skagway. Sit on the left hand side of the train with the engine in front of you for the best views.

Greg W

Absolutely gorgeous ride up the route of the Gold Rush miners. Watch call of the wild and then take this ride to see the actual effort made by men of that era and the incredible scenery that is the real wealth left us today.

Stan Thompson

Fun trip. Saw a bear. No passport needed if you take the train up and back.

John E Becker

The most awesome rail fan friendly excursion north of the Columbia River. The docents provide an abundant amount of information about the the terrain and history the train travels through.

Katie Hallock

Definitely worth the $119 ticket! We got some beautiful pictures and really enjoyed the three hour ride!! A local recommended that we sit as far back as possible on the left side - certainly a good recommendation! The view you want is on the left side the whole ride up. They do "make" you switch sides for the ride down. Luckily our car wasn't completely full and we had no one across from us to enforce that. You're allowed to step out of the car on to the balcony to take pictures whenever you want, you just can't cross from car to car. Bottled water is provided and there is a clean bathroom onboard. The tour guide was full of interesting information and made the trip entertaining!

Dave Zeller

It was an ok excursion from the cruise ship...beautiful views but a little bit of a long day

Stephanie Desimone

Excellent tour. Beautiful, spectacular views with knowledgable narration of historical gold rush. A must see.

Heath Jordan

This is a amazing train ride from Skagway, Alaska to the Yukon, Canada. The views are incredible and I highly recommend it.

Dell Brown

This excursion was equally enjoyed by all members of our large family, young and old. Seeing by train, the areas surrounding the historic Yukon Route leaving Skagway, provided a nostalgic sense of authenticity and appreciation for olden times. The scenery was beautiful and the train ride was the best way to see it.

Kristie Nyarko Koranteng

I took the white pass railroad tour in Skagway, Alaska on our cruise as an excursion, it was wonderful. It lasted almost 3 hours, there was a lot of beautiful scenery and the staff was great.

Jeffrey Markowitz

This train is AWESOME. I highly recommend it. The cars are vintage and pretty, and the scenery is out of this world. There is always something cool to see on the route. You can even stand outside, which is really cool also. 11/10 would highly recommend.

Joe Quisgard

This is a great train ride. The scenery is beautiful with plenty of opportunities for great photos. The cars have a great old time feel and the narration telling the history of the route is fantastic.

Danielle C.

This is the best way to see the mountains and the Yukon Route. Simply breathtaking. An experience I'll never forget!!

Vicente Amicone

If you are in Skagway is a must do. I the train will take you through the hills and you will see breath taking views. Do combine it with other activities, it is only so much nature you can absorb in one go

Posture Doc

A beautiful reminder of the brutal history of the gold rush.

Sandie Greco

Love Sagway! Wish the price of the tickets to ride the train were a priced a little better or at the very least reduced rates for children.

Michael C

A beautiful place, I recommend taking the train up to the pass and just enjoying the scenery.

Todd Ostram

Super awesome trip up the mountain. The view is beautiful if its not cloudy and well worth the trip.

Amy Minutillo

This was my first time to Alaska hopefully will not be my last. The beautiful mountains the clear blue dkies and the fresh air is everything that I expected and more.

Dexter Thomas Sr

Go early while it's still cold and snowing in the pass. We hit the first cruise out after winter. It's a ride you really can't get anywhere. Dress warm so you can stand outside on the platform for part of the ride. Well worth the expense. You can rent a car and drive the highway cheaper, but it's exactly that, a cheaper experience.

Larry James Rivera

One of the best shore excursions in Alaska. The scenic train ride through the beautiful trees and snow. The air was so fresh. Train was clean too.

Luz Ornelas

Very cute and picturesque train ride. Great for kids. Decided to take bikes down from Canada to Alaska. It was fun.

Bonnie Cornett

White Pass & Yukon Route Railway what a wonderful experience. Skagway was my favorite stop in Alaska.

NetuserLC NetuserLC

Would do it again when the track reopens.

Nate Smith

Great trip, breathtaking views, fantastic tales from history.

Corgin

Great views of the valley!

Ria Sutrisno

This ride was sooo amazing .. unbelievable we rode on more than one and a half century old rail .. definitely must see..

Tracey Frost

Great ride. Beautiful views.

Mags

This was a true highlight of our stop in Skagway. The train was clean, comfortable, and the conductor came around to speak with everyone and share his joy in living there and participating in the rail tours. The sights were stunning, and I felt lucky to view another angle of Alaska’s raw beauty. It also gives insight into the treachery of the gold rush expeditions. I loved this outing and still had time to walk the town for several hours afterward.

JOHNNY STALL

Can buy tickets in town for $135 US. Fun trip, cool views.

Mary Ellen Tucker

Unbelievable views of mountain pass. Hard to believe that the Gold Rush prospectors climbed over these mountains!

Bhumika Chavda

To experience the breathtaking panorama of mountains, glaciers, gorges, waterfalls, tunnels, trestles and historic sites from the comfort of vintage passenger coaches...then this is the perfect place Juliana was our tour guide and she was great! I would definitely love to have her as our guide for any other trip.

Dan Kaminsky

With great anticipation and excitement we looked forward to our cruise stop in Skagway to board the train for our White Pass trip. After an unexplained 1 hour delay we finally boarded our train. Barely 1/3 into our journey the train stopped and they announced there would be a short delay. After getting a push to Clifton station we were told we would be on our way soon. Another hour delay with little explanation and watching three other trains pass us we were told the tour was over and we would be pulled back down due to a failing engine. I don’t know when or if we will ever be in Alaska again but the free hat and DVD they offered didn’t make up for the disappointment of losing our tour. We were made to feel like the sacrificial lamb so the other trains’ passengers could enjoy their tours. Huge disappointment.

Amy Zmolik

Stunning amazing views from super cute old train cars with some decent history/narration

Jason Murray

Such a great trip!! The train employees were very friendly and very knowledgable. This was a unique experience and full of "oohs" and "aahs"! Bathrooms on the train cars were in great shape and the kids loved the whole experience.

Robert Bryan

A fun way to spend the time and very friendly crew. We only rode the route to the border and back. Lots of scenery and worth the price and time.

Clyde Legg

Great train ride, amazing scenery, live narration, friendly crew, and multiple itineraries.

Vikram Agrawal

The views are good... But they could be so much better if the actual train was of good quality. It's an old style train with rather small windows and they don't serve food although they do have free water bottles available The overall experience was good but not really worth the price

craig albrecht

Absolutely magnificent beautiful beyond words! I felt like this part of Canada was more impressive than Alaska or Yellowstone the beauty is everywhere the peace Serenity tranquility it's just something you have to see to describe for yourself! I recommend that everyone makes this a vacation spot at some point in their lifetimes! I will definitely be back

Cindy Martin

What a fabulous train ride. The views were fantastic and the guide was excellent.

Nick McGuire

Crazy train ride that I was not expecting. Great scenery. Only downside is that it is a 3 hour ride and there is no getting off early

Shannon Prindiville

Beautiful scenery but no wildlife on our visit!

Walker Tomes

Really cool experience, rolling through the mountains and having a tour of Alaska

Lonnie Ritchey

A wonderful train ride that everyone must do.

Tobias Barth

Great railroad experience. The White Pass & Yukon Route is a beautiful chance to see a very unique landscape on the way to Skagway, AK.

T R

Nice and clean train. Nice view. Good narration.

Brandon Baker

Had a great trip up and back on the White Pass & Yukon Scenic Railway. Amazing views of beautiful Alaska on this historic rail line.

Michelle Clancy

So cool and great history! Get a seat on the right side when facing forward

doug richards

Wow! A must do! Well worth the cost(which is reasonable). Rode the Summit excursion, 3 hours. Crew narrative during the trip was excellent! See the pass the gold rushers had to accomplish. The gift shop is well done and very nice coffee shop at the station.

John Bobincheck

We didn't take this tour but everyone we talked to afterwards seemed to really enjoy it

Jon Mansen

Great Tour. Beautiful views

Danielle Daniels

A Skagway must do! It’s expensive but worth it for 3 hours of beautiful scenery. The best views are outside standing against the railing. At some points you can almost touch the mountain! Before heading out, the person narrating the train ride will ask you to be courteous of others wanting to take pictures outside...just be prepared a bunch of people with cameras won’t listen and will literally stand in the same spot the whole time. Don’t be shy, ask them to let you through.

Mary Hennecke

Tyler and Lyndsay were awesome! We had great weather for our journey and the views were amazing. We hope to come back when the train passes into Canada again. This was a nice, relaxing, beautiful use of our time in Skagway!

Quyen Huynh

Great scenic view!!! One of the best tours you should see in Skagway. I'm glad that I did. The train ticket is a bit pricey $125 for 3.5 hour long, but it's worth.

Fysio Mick

Absolutely brilliant! The scenery, the history, the customer service! One tip: maybe it is possible that travelers get a stamp from the US when leaving the country. Otherwise you might get into trouble when you leave Canada to Europe and try to get back into the states again.

Paul Waldie

If you like old trains, breath taking scenery, and a trip into the wilderness this is a must do when you are in town.

Jennifer Dinis

Great time on the train. Amazing views, great knowledge gained.

John Mazurek

An amazing trip on this narrow gauge railroad built in two years during the peak of the Yukon gold rush. A bus took us from Skagway into Canada (be careful because you have to pass through customs) and we boarded this antique railroad. You can move about the cars and stand out on the platforms between cars for a more breath taking view. Very much fun. PS I saw other reviews about fine dining and glass domed cars. This trip was on a historic narrow gauge train and all they served was bottled water.

J B

I highly recommend this excursion

Stacy Bruss

The commentary was just right-info you need without talking constantly. The handicapped car was very accessible. The in car guides help with all your questions, and the water and in-car stoves keep you comfortable. My only wish is the cars had larger viewing platforms because lots of people love to hang out and take pictures.

Mr. Y

The train ride is cool. You get to experience the real steam train ride; as well, the scenic view is awesome! On the other hand, since the passengers can only stay on the train at all times, this train ride is more suitable for grown up adults who really appreciate the environment around them. Also it would be better if the person PA system can have more stories and facts to share so we can have a better understanding throughout this historical scenic ride.

Larry Williams

A great way to experience the Klondike trail

Trena S

Very scenic and super knowledgeable folks!

Preetham Eranki

Love this scenic route. Absolutely fantastic & definitely, worth the money

Helen Ford

This train ride was fantastic! Very informative and awe inspiring! Beautiful scenery! Highly recommend doing this!

Tyson Anderson

We booked this train ride through our cruise line. It was a lot of fun for the whole family. The passenger cars where very clean and comfortable they are heated as well.

Jigna shah

It's surreal how scenic this place is, it has everything..We were able to see lots of black bears with their Cubs.. Also enjoyed interacting and riding with the Huskies..

Mary Lee Stenstrom

So quaint and nostalgic. Beautiful scenery and a fun day of things to do and see

Jeremy Courville

One of the best parts of our Alaskan trip. Make sure you have your passport. We almost missed it.

Sara Westerfeld

Wonderful day trip. Enjoyable history talk, beautiful views, and amazing historical train cars to ride in. I would take this trip over and over again!

Cleo Ripley

Great views and an enjoyable trip. Took the same trip 16 years ago. They used to talk more about the miners and the trail.

Nobody Special

One of the best and enjoyable rides we took on our Alaska Cruise

Samantha Lee

So tragic, yet informative. One way was hell, the other...Damnation.

Edward Butts

Just a nice train ride sharing the lengths men would go for "gold fever"!

Mary Anne Schneider

If you have a chance to experience this excursion we wholeheartedly encourage it

Anita Bagley

Fun ride up and down the mountain.

Janet Stoda

What a ride! Bucket list item checked off

Shondra J

We opted to ride in the luxury car with unlimited food and drinks. There was no one under 21 years old allowed to ride in the car. It was worth the price paid. Breathtaking views with a tour guide to answer our questions. There was only seating for 14, so it was not crowded at all. The appetizer style food was delicious with a selection of beer, wine, and soda. A great selection of gift items in the store at the stop in town.

Dennis Champion

Absolutely amazing- this scenic trip following the route of the Klondyke Gold Rush is unbelievable- amazing to see how unskilled labour carved a route up treacherous mountain gorges- and we took the longer trip to Lake Bennett and Carcross- I am glad we did- this was by far the most memorable part of the journey. The narration was very informative, as was the display at Lake Bennett.- Thoroughly recommended

YourLandAndCruiseExperts Travel

Beautiful views, relaxing train ride, and tons of information. We were able to ride the White Pass Train during an excursion on our Alaska cruise. If you need help with steps, call their main office and let them know exactly what your needs are. They will let you know if they can accommodate. FYI - I had NO cell phone coverage while up in the mountains. If you use your phone as a medical alert device or you need cell service for a medical receiver, this detail may be important to you. Great views of mountains, lakes, glaciers, and great information about those who tried to get rich during the Gold Rush.

Dennis Camp

I suggest taking the train down the pass, as compared to going up. It was a fun trip. The. staff are very nice, helpful when needed. Now owned by RCCL.

John P

First time my wife had been on a train and it was awesome. The headset gives you so much info while riding as well as the guide on the train helping with questions.

Shannon Townsel

Great ride through the mountains ok Alaska. If you come to skagway you have to take this train ride.

Ryan Buzzini

Well worth the trip. Very good adventure and cool train ride.

M R Noneya

This is a must do trip. It's 3 hours. If you have a choice, go later in the day to allow for any fog to burn off. Fog is occasional, not guaranteed. The best view going up is the left side ion the back. You must switch sides going down. You can step out and take pics from the balcony but you cannot change cars. It's an absolutely gorgeous trip.

Mary Iancu

Taking the train was fun i enjoy the ride it took about 4 hours and i love it very much

Sheila Corcoran-wilson

Ver nice clean interesting until the brakes over heated and we had to wait for four other trains to go by then BACK down the mountain. Result we missed our destination!!???? They did refund our money.

Melissa Mathis

nice long scenic route up to the Canada border. Beautiful scenery. Bring cash if you want a souvenir on the train, they don'e take cards.

Mike Penttila

Unbelievable scenery. Saw mountain sheep and goats, eagles and a black bear. No bugs and awesome weather. Visited Emerald Lake. Highly recommended.

Karen Fisher

Great views. Wish there was more space outdoors. Interesting history lesson.

Kim

Loved it! Beautiful! The tour guides were excellent!

Wayne Crawford

Beautiful scenic views. Some can only be seen on the train!

Simon Austen

Beautiful scenery, nice staff & a good glimpse into the psst. We used it as both an "excursion" on our way from Whitehorse to Skagway and transport at the end of the Chilkoot Trail.

Barbara d Allen

Yes it is total tourist but it is a bit of interesting history as well. The scenery is beautiful, the guides are interesting and for railroad buffs it is a must. Even hikers and campers are welcome aboard to start you mother nature adventure.

Laura Bean

Wonderful train ride.. Beautiful scenery. Conductor was very informative.

Kathy F-P

Would highly recommend trip on train. Great scenery!

Danielle Swap

Fun and relaxing. Great staff

Boris Vinnik

It follows very picturesque route with spectacular views of mountains and lakes.

Joe Nappi

Great way to see the Yukon route taken by the miners. Scenic views of the mountains, valleys and the history of the region.

Steven Lindsay

The train ride was great and the views were, for the most part, fabulous. The two things that spoil the ride is, people who hog the platforms and spoil the views for others, and the trees that block most of the views. The openings in the trees are brief. Once you hear what's coming up, the train has passed the it. It would've been nice for the train to stop so people could see.

Karlene Schneider

Beautiful scenery, very informative

Ron Quilhot

Great train adventure with breath taking scenery and some wildlife.

ROBERT ONESTY

What a great way to spend time. We rode in the luxury car. Unlimited drinks, great food, and breathtaking scenery. Take your camera. Very knowledgeable guides.

Shirlee Hix

The best tour ever experienced with Chilkoot Tours into the Yukon and White Rail return.

Cathy Shapard

Nice train ride, beautiful scenery and learned about the area.

Ryan Thomas

Beautiful scenery! Great tour guides! I dont have many trainee like this to compare it to, but I would recommend this to tourists.

Kathy Ferguson

Great way of seeing some of Alaska's greatest scenery and history.

Lisa Stark

Loved it. Very nice! Great views.

Patrick Lawless

White Pass railroad was amazing. Hard to imagine how they built the tracks through the steep, narrow pass back in that era. Views were equally as amazing.

Carl Jorgensen

Fantastic ride on the White Pass & Yukon railroad. Beautiful senic ride to Frazer, Canada. The history of the people that walked that trail in the mountains during horrendous conditions in the dead of winter is unbelievable. To even build the rail line was a job beyond belief. A must do if you take a trip to Alaska.

Michael Marron

Great ride up the mountain. Informative lesson on the history of the pass. Staff was friendly.

Thomas Worcester

Fantastic excursion. A definite do not miss. Scenery was marvelous

Lakshmi Sharma

A place as beautiful and pure that you feel you can talk to God and he/she would listen. Must go.

Leanna Adams

A beautiful train ride. I stood outside most of the ride, and it was breathtaking. They have free water.

Rosie Ritchey

This train ride in Skagway is one of my favorites! Beautiful scenery the whole ride and very informative. This was my second time experiencing this.

Karen Brunelle

We booked the private car and loved it! Zane took great care of us!

Kitty poole (K Ownsaharley)

Train ride was a beautiful ride. Breath taking views saw a small bear but didn't get picture if it

Jodi Nichols

Stunning

Laurence McKeen

Wonderful scenic trip. Some might get a little queasy from the heights in places.

Murray Cbr

Excellent tour. Views alone are worth it, but the train is a lot of fun, it’s comfortable, clean, all amenities, and good tour guides. The drivers make the bus trip back another adventure, stopping at different points such as Emerald Lake in Yukon and waterfalls. Downside is that it’s expensive and the crowd is what you’d expect from an American cruise ship. (It is also about to be bought by a cruise company.) 2x stars deducted because they say the drivers depend on gratuity for salary: at US$230 a ticket, they should pay them fairly.

Justin Christy

Truly beautiful! The train was a great way to see the scenery and take in the amazing views. Would highly recommend!

Rick Johnson

Took the full trip up and the bus back down. Very pretty scenery. Great train. Enjoyed going into Canada. Took the trip off the cruise ship.

Ibtesam Syed

If in Skagway, do the scenic White Pass. Well worth it!

Mark Wright

Incredible views and very clean and organized train ride!

Adam Machell

An amazing experience all around. The trip itself is amazing. No steam this year, but I knew that going in. The sights along the route are incredible. Be aware if you have any fear of heights, there are some dramatic drop offs along the way. The train staff is really nice, friendly, and helpful.

James Loomis

This is a must, to ride this train up through the mountains to White Pass and back. Beautiful scenery, non stop beauty, step out on to the platform between the cars, so many photo opportunities

Deborah Fox

If you go on a cruise to Alaska I recommend you take the train ride gorgeous country

Steve Movies future

I will never go to Canada again. Sad to say that custom there are just rude and think that the don't need to answer anyone. My friends and I had plans to fishing and hunting we decide not to go after our experience there. What lose to there economy. Cancelled our trip lost a lot of money Canada !!

Margie Iverson

Great ride & tour of a historic era..the Alaskan Gold Rush. Beautiful natural scenery of mountains, forests, waterways, & animals..

Jeannette Vidal

A thrilling ride, a must see!! Amazing views!!

Ruth Blank

This is a MUST SEE excursion! The scenery, the history, the possible wildlife sightings!

Nicole Goodman

Beautiful views and great history! Ride the train in combination with a bus tour. You will love it!

Cande Fudge

Well run and very friendly staff. Absolutely beautiful scenery! They did a nice job explaining the history and what we would be seeing next. Fantastic gift shop!

Helen Walicka

Single gauge railway using tracks that the original gold rush miners painstaking built into the rocks. All the carriages have been refurbished and are used regularly. Journey takes about 2 hours with a commentary either to or from Jasper. Be sure to bring you passport as you cross into Canada from the US.

Scott B

Loved this train experience....?Awesome views of Skagway

Caroline Woodruff

The train ride is an awesome experience. The views were amazing.

Tony Smith

It was neat to be on a historic train. However, the view from one side was the rock wall, and the other side was about 90% trees. When the trees didn't block, there are good views, but you have about 5 seconds. For my family and I the expectation was one like pikes peak cog train. This one was dissapointing

Arlana Wood

We we're so excited to be on this beautiful train, but a little disappointed that the trip was not going the full journey! We learned that there was a bridge being repaired after the 14mi marker! It was still an interesting ride and we want to come back when the bridge is repaired and do it again! We didn't see any wildlife either! Could be the time of year or just not a good day for it! We did have great weather for a train ride!

Ken Jensen

Beautiful views along the train ride.

Dan Kennedy

Its a nice ride on the rails.. everything looks in good shape. The scenery along the way is really incredible and the narrator does a good job of explaining things along the route. Its too expensive though for what you get in my opinion .

charles david

Scenic ride, excellent service. Awesome

Vincent

I had the incredible privilege of riding this train a few times over the sunny summer of 2015. The views are incredible, the information is cool, and the tour guides are humorous and likeable. A must for anyone visiting Skagway for any reason!

Julie G

Our trip was...lol...derailed...since there was a landslide and the rail was taken out. Our bus driver Jenna was awesome, informative and funny. Anytime she is your driver you are going to have a great trip. Highly recommend her!

Clay

Spectacular scenery the entire trip! It was the highlight of my visit to Skagway.

Gwen Burns

Fun ride, beautiful scenery, nice naration, good seating, switched for trip down so didn't see same scenery. Wasn't boring or too long. Ended up right downtown.Glad we did it and still had time to shop and eat in town!!

Cheryl V

Beautiful scenery. The tour guide was great. Very interesting and educational excursion.

fnu maliki

Like an old town really great

Pamela McClendon

Incredible ride. Our 1st trip to Alaska. What a great time and adventure.

Pamela Nadeau

Debra Maynard

This was the best trip! The views and experience was beyond any expectations Take the train back into history the attendees are awesome.

Barbara Hurlburt

Fun journey to the top of the tracks, then back down again. Plenty to see and observe.

David Thill

This was one of the land excursions that my wife and I decided to include in our Inside Passage Cruise to Alaska. This was a great choice. The scenery is unforgettable and the history of the White Pass Train was sensational. I'd do this train trip again in a heart beat.

Doug Early

Train has small seats. Volume is too low and when asked about it....ignored. smaller groups would make it a lot more pleasant.

Gary Patterson

A place of true and remarkable beauty

K Williams

It in the top five things you must do!

Doug Brewer

Great tour, great folks. Highly enjoyable. Strongly recommended.

Jeannie McLaughlin

What a great ride. Unbelievable how the miners tired to make their riches. So brave. Count our blessings we live in the times we do.

John Ball

Nice idea but mechanical issues forced us to stay on the bus. I believe we saw more from the bus, which stopped for several photo breaks. Bus is cheaper and faster. Train is a nice novelty for kids if it is working.

Mark S

Most was very picturesque. There was heavy overcast at the top. No food or drinks are offered or sold on this 90 minute trip.

Julia Bauman

Great trip and scenery

richard repton

Loved it, fantastic views, great staff and service, definitely a trip to do again.

Ken Carlson

For some fantastic views, take the narrow rail train, lots of interesting information regarding the early gold digs and the story of what the folks faced when going after their dream gold mines. Highly recommend!

Dale Wood

We were there 6/16, because of the snow melt the waters were flowing great & Alaska was beyond amazing.

Dian Smith-Walker

Beautiful scenery and we enjoyed it very much. Would live to do it again.

Duane

I thought it would be an exciting trip, but was not satisfied at all. After listening to the person giving the tour "who was the conductor come to the front of the car dressed like a break man along with a person selling souvenirs. My wife bought some hats but wanted another one but the person handing out the hats was about to leave the car. So she asked the conductor for one and he said he would get it for her. Well he never even tried to get one, and when she asked again all he said was not going to happen. Oh all we saw was fog all the way. For the price not worth the time.

Jennifer Bennett

Our excursion was amazing and the landscape was breathtaking!

Michael Roberts

Absolutely brilliant scenery. Well worth the trip. Stand outside between the cars and take in the beautifully fresh air. 3 hour return trip but felt like 15 minutes

Sandy Gunthorp

I had the best time on this trip. From sea level to snowy mountain passes, it was an incredible way to see the extremes of Alaska.

Guillermo Loubriel

We were there in early September. The trip took about 3 hours. The train ride was excellent and the scenery beautiful. The narrated train trip was great- they talk about the trail of 98 (photo) that the miners took and the history of the train. Two things to improve on. First, some views are there for (literally) a second. They will tell you that there is a waterfall coming on the mountain side and then, poof, it's past. They could slow down a bit in the 3 areas where they know that visibility is short lived. Second, there is NO food at the top (Fraser, Canada). Finally, if you take the bus, ask how many stops they will make. We stopped at the entrance back to Alaska and at Pitchfork falls (see photo). Other buses made other stops. Our tour (bus) guide was annoying in that he seemed to think he was God's gift to women. I am glad that I know other men from Argentina and they are not like him.

Laraina Murphy

The photographer's opportunity, never a dull moment. Nature as it was intended, wild life living among it...must see to believe it.

David Kramer

Most scenic train ride imaginable, well worth it.

Pat McGee

Awesome. Tour guides were very knowledgeable. Great Views.

Carlos (Nightbandit46)

The views from the train are beautiful. I'm from a city with no mountains or hills, the views here were breathtaking and the train ride was filled with historical anecdotes. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting.

Ron Dixon

The train and track is perfectly restored, you'll love the view and ride.

Mary Ann Redmond

We sat in the glass covered car and the ride was wonderful. Had a lovely breakfast and was provided with lots of information by the staff.

Edith A

Beautiful ride up the mountains, and u get to see different landscapes along the way.

Duncan Surin

I had no idea what to expect and this ended up being a stunning return ride with some incredible views.

Joseph Dutko

A spectacular sunny warm day, with beautiful scenery, enjoyed from a narrow gauge train ride that hugs the sides of mountains, goes over ravines, over extraordinary bridges, through tunnels to get us to White Pass and finally to Fraser, BC, Canada. This was a super ride that keeps you interested the entire way. In Fraser we basically got off the train and then boarded the bus back to Skagway AK. Enjoy some of our pictures of this Alaskan adventure.

Oriana Vik

What a beautiful journey! Lots of waterfalls and history.

Dan Williams

Very nice great scenery and knowledgeable people comfortable ride

Lonnie Wright

Wonderful scenic trip inland over trestles and through tunnels. Topography changes dramatically throughout...

Daniel White

Nice train ride on a narrow gauge railroad in the mountains . Historical sites

Larry Burke

Well worth the expense. The views we're spectacular and it was fun to experience a bit of the history of the Gold Rush.

Peter Turner

This is a must see. The rail trip to the top of the pass, you will get a feeling of how tough it was in the very early days of the gold miners.

Kevin Jarrell

A must do tour. Nice and clean train with excellent staff. Very scenic views.

Pat Bryant

Beautiful scenery. Plan to take this excursion if you have the opportunity.

Bud Zomok

Beautiful ride.

Jackie Benson

The trip was shorter due to bridge repair, so a little disappointed, but the scenary was breathtaking!

ken anderson

Amazing day on the train. Beautiful scenery and knowledgable and friendly tour guides. A must see event

Ed Hildreth

Awesome experience. Make sure you stand outside on the platform between the train cars to get the full experience.

M Thompson

This must be an extremely popular attraction. I can understand why. The views of the mountains and valleys were spectacular. A quick glimpse of a glacier up in the mountains. We bought tickets from the cruise as an Excursion. Tickets are also available at a booth right where the train stops in downtown Skagway. We spent about 130 each from the ship. I think the price locally is close to that or little bit more. While the train is moving you can't go from car to car. Even though the windows are very large and easy to see out of the back of the last car has views not available through windows on either side.

EyesWide Open

Epic views! Don’t miss this!

Latasshia Forney

A Peaceful and Beautiful scenic ride! I highly recommend!????

Charlie Wickens

Brittney was our tour guide for the train ride and she is very knowledgeable, fun, polite and talented. She played her guitar and sang several songs for us on our run down the mountain. We saw beautiful scenery and learned interesting history of the area.

Kevin Birkhofer

It is one of those tours that you should experience while visiting Alaska. Majestic views and it has a historic link to the Klondike gold rush.

Laura Yvonne Pelletier

Fantastic views and photo ops! Tyler, tour guide on the train, was just wonderful, too! Highly recommended this if you are in the area. (We took a bus tour from Whitehorse)

Marty Finver

An experience that I have been on on a half a dozen times. One of the most interesting scenic short train rides. Need to have passports as cruise hoes to British Columbia in canada

Patti Sharkey

Excellent tour and fantastic guide.

Fabrizio Misuraca

First the ride was only 14 miles where all you can see is, trees, trees, trees and trees. You can spot a far away waterfall and a far away bridge. The crew was amazing, they tried everything to make our ride funny and enjoyable, they explain the amazing story of the railway and all the historical facts that were very interesting. but I came in Alaska to admire the wildernesses and all you can see on this ride are trees.

Tyas Cahya

The most beautiful view that I ever seen, great adventure joining The White Pass tour...

Patrick Davis

Beautiful Mt.

daniel hayes

Great trip to the pass great views a must see and do while in Alaska you may get to see a bear

Christopher Corso

Took the 3.5hr rail tour. It was very cool. I learned a lot of interesting history and got some incredible pictures. Pretty amazing views.

Rented a jeep and went carcross canada. Beautiful scenery. Small friendly town.

rajesh kumar nayak

God's blessings to visit Skagway Alaska White pass & Yukon. Thanks to Carnival Legend team for his Touristdestination options to Alaskans.

Sarahann Gates

Great experience!!! Our train brought back memories from my high school years. The route was beautiful and crossing into and out of Canada briefly was interesting. The views were spectacular!!!!

S P

Beautiful scenery, saw black bear, sit on right side of traincar to have best view

Barbara Curley

Did a combination 6 hour excursion (Gold Panning, Sled Dogs and Train Ride) from the cruise ship. Gold panning - This included 1 pan of gold and everyone is guaranteed to get a little gold. Sled Dogs - Presentation given by a real 4 time Iditarod musher. He is interesting to listen to and hilarious. We were able to pet the sled dogs and watch a short run on a gravel path. There were puppies! Train ride - My absolute favorite part of Alaska! Very glad we were able to order sandwiches and were provided water and snacks. Our tour had its own train car and our guide 'Goldbeard' was very informative. Good luck on his next adventure!

Bill Koch

Besides the wonderful scenery the crew was wonderful. Our tour guide Julieanna was the Best I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Thank you, this was our favorite excursion!!!

Char Puckett

Boring. Would not do again. Great time to catch a nap. Staff was nice. But definitely not worth the money.

Kristy Gonsalves

The family loved it. The history lesson was very interesting. We want to go again after all of the repairs are made so that we can do the whole trip.

Wayne Wilson

Wonderful trip , great views , a little pricey $270 each Juneau to White Horse , Yukon. bus one way train back. 9 hours!

Jennifer DeLeon

Would of added more stars but the train broke down and had to go back to town riding backwards. Disappointing.

John Hohmann

All tours were sold out upon my arrival. However, it was a nice looking lobby and friendly staff.

Neal Matzkin

Very relaxing way to see some absolutely stunning scenery. Takes one of the routes of the gold rush miners over the pass to the Yukon. Only took the trip to the top of the pass there are longer one day cruise ship compatable trips as well as trips for hikers to the backcountry. Very nice staff and narations of what you are seeing.

Katrina S

Great trip up the White Pass, highly recommend if you're looking for an activity in Skagway

Scott Wilson

Great ride to get you into a bit of the interior. It'd be nice to have about a 20 minute stop to get out of the train but that's not an option. Great deal on hat that's only sold on trip.

michael frantum

Busy and very cliche. Locals and tourists. Let us leave suitcases in bar area during breakfast. We played cribbage while waiting. Staff encouraged us to stay longer. Historically fun, stuffed bear, wishing well-fountain in center. Iconic place!! Try the reindeer sausage!

Nachiket Anklesaria

Scenic route of a small train excellent view from the train

Liz Niles

Beautiful scenery, but fumes from the engine we're terrible sitting in the Railroad car. I know there isn't much they can do, but had to stand outside most of the trip to fend off a headache.

Robert Martin

A little pricey for such a short ride, but great scenery and beautiful train.

Jack Arsenault

Loved the ride. Cars are spacious, comfortable, with glass roof for viewing the scenery. Staff were excellent. Got a Yukon Railroad mug with my coffee

Randy Rienth

Lots of fun, the ride is great, the scenery is beautiful.

Vicki Wronkowski

The scenery is marvelous from the train, but most of the vistas are on one side of the train so getting photos can be tricky. Other than that, it is a great trip with a staff that provide awesome information about the area.

Amy Malone

Many beautiful sites and very friendly staff

Tim Toth

I have done the trip from Anchorage to Seward twice now. It is actually one of our favorite parts to the Alaska cruise. Great scenery. Great staff.

Lisa Weatherford

AWESOMENESS!!! if your ever in skagway you must take this train trip!!!!!

David Pyle

There is far too many things that are experienced during this ride to Include in a short narrative. The wildlife, mountains, snow and the pristine views are something everyone should experience at least once during their life. The historical narrative that goes along with it is also very informative and not boring at all!

Andrew Loken

It is a train so that worked for me. The cars are okay but I mostly stood on the platform. My wife thought the seats were hard. The views in several places are stunning. Given the history it is a must see. Buy tickets in town and save 40% over cruise excursions. They run multiple trains each day and have to keep to their schedules.

Joshua

So much fun! Highly recommend!!

Ronda M

Highly recommend this excursion. We chose train to Fraser, B.C. then took tour bus to Carcross, Y.T. then back to Skagway. Very scenic.

LINDA STUDER

OMGoodness this is not to be missed!! An absolutely awesome ride through spectacular countryside with excellent live narration!! So thankful we did this excursion!!

Steve Baker

It's a bit slow starting out but there are plenty of picture opportunities. It gets a little windy and chilly if you stay out in the platforms between cars but when you come in you warm up quick.

Rick Palen

Had a great time. Most scenic trip I have ever taken.

Christine Noland

Doug our Forest Ranger guide was the best.

Mark Messing

What a great train trip. Beautiful vistas and sights to see. I recommend this to all who travel here. You might even see a yeti, armadillo, and other things too!

Brian White

Very cool train ride. A little on the long side but hey, it's old school, unplug and enjoy the ride. Touristy town but cool to check out.

Zaq Hil

Yahoo is the best way to go to the post office and I will be available to help you out with any of the above mentioned questions or if you can't make

Elaine Jensen

We absolutely loved this train journey. I have never seen so many beautiful waterfalls and such fantastic scenery. This was definitely our highlight in Skagway!!

Carmen Raddatz

We would give this tour a ten! Due to COVID, we could not go all the way to Canada - we received partial refunds on the original price, very fair. Scenery was phenomenal.

Carol Brown

Narrator very informative about history. Scenery beautiful and ride comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

Matthew McNamara

Incredible Scenery, great history. A unique way to visit Skagway. Worth the price.

Kelly DeWine

The views from the train are spectacular! Staff was friendly and informative. Worth the time and money.

Chris Kelly

Great ride. Go out on the plank between the cars and get some unobstructed views.

Susan Olynyk

Best historical excursion for a cruise.

Donald Erb

Loved it. Breathtaking views w great narration of what you are seeing and what the gold rush was like over 100 years ago.

Julia Walters

The guides were informed and interesting. All effort was made to provide a fabulous day and was beyond successful. The scenery was breathtaking and the stories were amazing.

Betty White

Do to repairs on route the ride was shorter

Richard Brush

A fantastic journey into the past. Great scenery with a great guide.

lyn marruso

Scenery was beautiful. Learning about rail and yukon gold rush very interesting. About a 2 Hour excursion

Lance Hagele

Good train ride

Alice Searle

If you gave a glass doom train ride it’s nice & you sit at tables, served very good food‼️but if u have a regular car it’s hot/stuffy (windows don’t open) and worse than your airplane ride....this actually is the one in Skagway that is uncomfortable. Train from Seaward/Anchorage is much better????

Arlene Acuna

A good, though long train ride...giving you a feel of Alaskan pioneer history amidst the awesome mountains. If you don't have much time, there are a variety of choices....eg being on the water, capturing the glaciers, extensive hikes! This was a nice excursion but I wouldn't repeat it, whereas the whale watching was awesome.

Pamela Smith

Took the 2 hour ride. Excellent views. Well comentated. Nice enjoyable ride.

Lindsay DesSoye

One of the best tours I've been on. Or guide mark was funny and extremely knowledgeable.

Tyler Hoffman

We did this for an excursion while in for the day on our Alaskan cruise. The tour guide was very informative and gave some interesting history and facts on the railroad. There was a restroom in each railcar and the cars were in good condition. We were able to stand outside as well to get some fresh air while taking in the scenery. They are working on part of the railroad currently so they had to remove the locomotive and place it on the other end of the train while having us all switch the seat backs to the opposite position.

Dean Humphrey

Was wonderful. Just beautiful up there. Learning the history. Finding out all they went through. I would recommend it.

Andy B

did the wp&y in 2009. still think of the most awesome rail trip ever. I have been on many and this is by far the best.

Daniel Cooper

I Can recommend this with 1000% that you will have a great time. We went in the summer and it was gorgeous cant wait to do this in the winter months.

Carole Pulaski

A must do when visiting Alaska. We took the train up and back. When going up for on the left side. Great views!!

Janet Stewart

A very good excursion. A part of Alaska's important history. But they need to tell more details of things. Including the part they don't like to speak of, the horses during the gold rush. This was barely touched on. Give numbers, statistics, details.

Ben

Awesome! I will certainly do it again. The views we almost overwhelmingly. I could have ridden that train all day long.

Craig Sandberg

May 2018 tour. The scenery was wonderful. Train conductor added so much. James Coleman as bus driver and guide filled in many points and is an awesome storyteller to make this a memorable trip. Great lunch and backcountry Yukon is a sight worth seeing.

Bob P

Great scenery and we'll narrated! Very educational and so beautiful. Well worth the price and time. Been on it twice and would still go again.

Colleen D.H.

If you love trains and beautiful scenery, this is definitely for you. You can even step out the back and take photos. It's a gorgeous trip, around 4 hours total, and if like me, you love trains, then this is a perfect excursion to take while in Skagway.

Rebecca Mckee

This is amust-do activity in Skagway. Go all the way into Canada, if you have your passport with you. You will not regret it!

Don O'Grady

Wonderful trip and amazing scenery. Highly recommend

Heather Short

Our flight into Skagway was cancelled 2 days in a row due to weather. We had a train trip booked and they graciously refunded our money. If we ever do make it there, we will be sure to book with them again!

Jennifer Waites

Beautiful scenery and very knowledgeable guides...definitely worth the trip!

Tom Wallace

The trip was amazing. Lots of beautiful scenery. Good narration.

adam thom

Scenery through the ride is amazing. Trips later in the day have less change of being completely shrouded in fog. The 'guide' on the train was super friendly and entertaining and did a great job of pointing out the sites on the ride.

David Perez

Amazing train ride with once in a lifetime experience and pictures. Highly recommended, enjoy

Rocky Lowe

We took the train 67 miles to Carcross, Yucon with a stop at Bennett Station. The train ride was fantastic and the views were amazing. By far the high point for our trip.

Janice Wallace

Beautiful scenery and pleasant atmosphere.

Laurie Johnson

This was a great opportunity to see some of the Alaskan landscape. Unfortunately, the burning wildfires impacted our view. It was still a great ride!

Matthew McAlister

Loved it. Certainly a must do wh n visiting skagway

Ronald Nelson

Excellent. Wonderful views.

Pen Robinson

Dont miss this! Lovely train ride with beautiful views! Well worth it. Look for sasquatch and a few others in the tunnels. Sasquatch is on the return trip. Fun day!

Michael D.

Fun train ride. Lower rating was for the food. Burger buns were two bottoms and they were rock hard. I don't have any issue with a $16 burger, but if you serve with stale hard buns it's not a good thing.

Rodney De La Gardelle

The way to see Alaska, the train, especially with the bubble top is the way to experience the beauty, wilderness, wildlife, individuals life style, breathe taking sites of mountains, snow, streams, etc.. Thinking back on my travel on the train, is like you were in a beauful dream.

Lynn DeBrock

Some bargains, some not. Harley shop, a few coffee shops, some local artisan shops. Cash is preferred, as the nearest bank is pretty far away.

P Kent Louscher

We took the tour with our companions from Adventure Caravan. We had a car to ourselves and enjoyed the spectacular scenery and running commentary over the speaker system. The young lady providing the information had a high voice and spoke rapidly making it challenging for us seniors to hear everything she had to share. We did have access to another staff who was eager to answer our questions throughout the trip. Overall, we were delighted with the experience and confident that the young lady would accept our constructive feedback to the benefit of future passengers.

Carole Long

The weather was excellent, so you could see all the lovely vista's and wonder how these tracks were ever managed to be completed.

Ellen Kobussen

Very beautiful worth the time to see

Elizabeth Gassner

The train ride gave you an opportunity to go back in time and attempt for you to understand the sacrifices that were made to build the railroad. Because the trip is up and back on the same tracks, regardless of what side you sit on, you will be amazed at the view looking down into the valley and where you have come. There is a page in the guide that identifies flora that you can look out for. Wildlife generally isn't seen because of the train's noise and whistle.

Sande Sivani

The White Pass and Yukon Railroad is an amazing excursion when you visit Alaska. We saw moose, beaver , caribou, several bears, a lynx and lots of bird life on our trip. The views from the train are fantastic and the weather was perfect. Sunshine and 70 degrees was about as perfect as it gets.

Ken Boucher

Amazing trip, the scenerey was specatcular. The wild life was coo, goats and many beautiful birds.

Jin Hwan Kim

Simply a must-see scenery

Sebastian Mueller

Simply said amazing. When in Skagway it is definitely a must do. A highlight of a trip to Alaska. The weather was simply put amazing as the sky was clear and it warmed up to almost 20 degrees Celsius in September. Even if the weather isn’t cooperating this would be an amazing trip to to. Would highly recommend!

Gary Shuhart

Nice to get a train ride. The girl narrating the trip was ok. Not just a whole lot to see.

Pat Bruns

Beautiful scenery....I wish there was more commentary along the way going a little more in depth on the history of the different attractions

Joe Morgan

Beautiful scenery ni contrast between snow covered peaks and fall colors

Lyn James

A wonderful train trip with the most beautiful views during my cruise in Alaska

Ian McGough

This is a must do if you visit Skagway. The entire train ride is packed with Yukon gold rush history and gorgeous vistas of Alaska. Original train cars, some dating back to before the gold rush itself. Train line is run by the same company that constructed the line in the 1800s. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. There are a few different rides you can take, but figure at least 2.5 hours. Bring your camera!

Nick Oswald

This is a fun and informative adventure. Makes you feel small seeing the vastness of the beautiful landscape called Alaska. The train is fun and allows to talk with others in the car without being stuck on a bus or car.

Mary Catalfamo

AWESOME train ride out of Skagway and just *barely* crossing the Canadian border. We saw so many beautiful sites as we followed the trail of the previous Klondike Gold Rush pioneers. Besides the incredible scenery, the railroad itself was and still is an engineering marvel. Not to be missed!

Rose Bull

Was an awsome trip. My husband bought a cap & unfortunately lost it today & would like a replacement as he really liked it. Where can we get one please.

James von Rosenberg

A piece of History every visitor to Skagway Alaska should explore. This railroad follows the trail to the Yukon Gold Strike

Rachel K

Worth a ride! We did up and back on the train and it was lovely

Judy Rogers

Greatest ride ever. Traveled with Ymt travel and was extremely affortable. Best trip ever!

chris bracy

Great trip. But bummed about the work rhat shortened the trip.

AJ Lubrano

Fun railroad for a shorter trip. Scenery became repetitive as did the narration. Several beautiful vistas. Several train durations available but teenage son became bored part way through the trip.

Nancy Mueller

This is a great excursion. We took the steam locomotive. Scenery is beautiful. Our guide Dimitri answered all of our questions and was very knowledgeable. I would recommend this trip.

Jim Landrum

Love taking the train around Alaska!

anro buell

Great train ride down the pass with a wonderful narrator giving great historical account and easy to understand

Tracy White

We went on the railway tour and enjoyed the scenery. We even saw our first black bear in Alaska on the train ride.

Peg Jensen

Skagway was an unexpected pleasure. The train was a beautiful trip. Not as scary as driving down the road to the little town in a motor home! Lots of history in the area...

Trevor Huffman

The views were amazing. The train moved smoothly and you are able to stand outside to get a better view without obstructions. The chairs are fairly comfortable if you stay inside as well. The entire trip from the top down felt like about an hour. Coming down, most of the views are on the right side of the train.

David Yielding

A wonderful railroad trip up into the Yukon. Wonderful scenery I thought I was in the Alps.

Henry Gomez

Nice historic ride through the mountains to the Canadian border. Fraser is the end of the line in the middle of nowhere. Better in nature than a big noisy city anyday. Bring a little patience because the ride can be long, cramped, and bumpy.

Condeescu Alexandru

Skagway is the embarkation point for the famous Chilkoot and White Pass trails. Famous for its hospitality, Skagway offers visitors all the amenities they desire for a relaxing, adventurous and unforgettable stay!

Susan Tuller

This was our second visit and I liked it even more than the first time. Very friendly staff who get me and my mobility scooter onto the train very quickly and without making me feel like a bother. The picture is of our train entering a tunnel. Scenic fun!

James Beebe

Only way to access Laughton Glacier trail. Awesome time. Sure, the train is expensive, but using it to access trailheads that are impossible otherwise is the ticket to get. Round trip ticket to the Laughton Glacier, full day, is what you need to do. It's a great hike.

Cari Castillo

Amazing views! Great family excursion. Everyone was very friendly and provided lots of narrative to get a better understanding of the journey.

Alacia Rathjens

The trail was a little cold but the view were worth the ride to Fraiser! We took the bus ride back into Alaska and stopped for a garden lunch before returning to our ship, Plan a once in a lifetime adventure on the rail. suspension bridge and lunch tour. You won't be disappointed ????

Abhijeet Chury

Beautiful scenery along the track, open spaces to view, free bottled water and use of clean washrooms onboard.

Michelle Covington

The train was quaint, and relaxing! Greatest views imaginable!
