Along the shore the cloud waves break, The twin suns sink behind the lake, The shadows lengthen In Carcosa. Strange is the night where black stars rise, And strange moons circle through the skies But stranger still is Lost Carcosa. Songs that the Hyades shall sing, Where flap the tatters of the King, Must die unheard in Dim Carcosa. Song of my soul, my voice is dead;j Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed Shall dry and die in Lost Carcosa. Found a piece of paper with this poem written on it and a mark of some kind, now I keep seeing the mark everywhere. Met a resident there named Hastur, cool guy, wears yellow clothes and a white dust mask. I’ve been getting calls from the Environmental Policy Impact Committee ever since though, so be careful if you see officers. Best part though is the massive stone blocks with the writing on them that are half buried in the sand. I really, really liked looking at them.

Talk about a strange place. We decided to rent a car when our cruise ship docked at Skagway. 15 min. walk from ship to Avis. Car was nice but didn't have GPS although we were told it did. Thankfully, Google Maps saved us. We drove through Canada all the way to the Yukon, returned in time to fill up the tank, drop it off, and back to the ship 45 min. before embarking to Glacier Bay (took us 8 hours from start to the return. It was easily the best day of the entire cruise. We experienced the Alaska we always had in mind but never experienced on the cruise or other ports; the quiet, all alone from as far as you could see in any direction and surrounding entirely by all snow covered mountains, trees and lakes (this was in the beginning of June. Well, getting back to the Carcross Desert. Along the way we wanted to see if this was the way it was described, and yes, it was. I have no idea how this sand covered, little patch of desert can exist in the Yukon, surrounded by cold winds and snow. But while the lake across the road was still defrosting, this was exactly what you would think of about deserts. Well scratch that one off the bucket list.

(Translated) The smallest desert on earth, the bottom of a glacial lake before, a very interesting place, the scenery is also good! (Original) 地球上最小的沙漠,以前上一个冰川湖泊的湖底,非常有意思的一个地方,风景也不错!

Neat attraction. Worth a visit.

Its a cool little place. The info boards are very informative

A local Yukon favorite in the summer for walking, quading, or motor biking, this desert is actually a dune that wss part of Lake Bennett. In the winter this is still a great spot for snow shoeing and tobogganing. It's close to Whitehorse so it's a great way to spend a weekend afternoon hanging out.

(Translated) Superb moment spent in the smallest desert in the world! It's uncrowded so you can have fun like kids in the sand. I advise you to really go to the top of the dune, you have a magnificent view of the desert, the mountains and the lakes (and the running descent is fun to do).

If you are in Whitehorse visiting and looking for something to do... come visit here and then carry on down through Carcross/Tagish. Some of the most scenic areas in the Yukon and you will not be disappointed. This place is literally a small little desert and is quite the unique little treasure surrounded by insane beauty. Please pack your garbage out with you!

Bharat Trehan

A great location. A desert in the North ! Also in the summer it’s the landing destination of the skydivers.

If you're heading to Carcross it's worth stopping by for visit. It seems to be both car and foot friendly.

Patrick Sageaktook

This place is a blast. Offers a lot of great views when at the top of the dunes. Sledding in the winter and nice hikes in the summer. Definitely a place to visit when in Whitehorse, Carcross, or the Yukon.

Amanda Musgrove

It's super weird to see pine trees growing out of the sand!

Sabrina Lee

Very neat! Definitely take the time to hunker all the way up to the peak. You can see an amazing view of Bennett Lake. My husband and I packed snacks and had a mini picnic at the top. Wear layers, as it can be breezy at the peak.

Davy Joly

Very nice place to walk or slide depending of the weather and the time of the year. Close enough to Carcross to go for coffee after a good time.e sliding on the big hills. Can be windy.

Mariam Thomas

Smallest beautiful desert

Tania S. Smith

Can walk anywhere within desert, interesting views, great for photos, nice pit toilets

Truong Bui

Cool little spot just off of the highway. It's more of a glacial sand deposit than a desert but still neat to see.

Jessica Henson

Really pretty!

Doh Lau

Neat little 'desert' near Carcross! Hiked up to a higher point to get a great view of the lake and mountains. Easy hike on packed sand.

Super cool place to go. If you're in the Whitehorse area, it'd DEFINITELY worth the detour. Don't be fooled by your eyes, though; getting to the top of the dune takes QUITE the effort. There's also a bunch of little plants and flowers everywhere during the summer; it's pretty interesting to see wild roses and other flowers grow in sand.

Amazing! We were heading down from Carcross and stopped in here. Went bare feet to the top of the dune and enjoyed the views. Absolutely amazing what mother nature is capable of when you see a place like this (glacier's caused this?!). Stop and check this off your list while visiting the Yukon!

Chester Liu

You have to be there and take in the wonders of seeing a desert, lake, and snowy mountains all in one view. Climb to the top of the dune! Totally worth it.

John Soanes (lost2gether)

The most interest thing about this desert is its improbable location. It's a pretty cool contrast to the otherwise evergreen lined, chiseled landscape in the Yukon.

I would say it a must if you go to Yukon. Nothing really exceptional about the place but the landscape is just so different from everything else around. I would suggest to go and take a stroll in the sand and enjoy the solitude and the emptiness of the desert

Jimbo Jumbo

A good hiking spot in the sand dunes. Just to the north there is the car cross trading post. It was closed when I was there, but looks like a good spot in the summer.

Jeff Sharpe

This is a truly unique experience. This isn't actually a dessert, but rather a curious geological formation caused by glaciers depositing sand in a glacial plain on the middle of the tundra of the Yukon. The result is an entertaining mix of sand dunes and pine trees. Beyond the geological spectacle, there isn't a ton to do here. I certainly enjoyed my stop, but it's best tasted as a side stop on a larger tour of along the way to somewhere else. There are only simple restrooms and picnic tables here, with no other services.

Rowan

Great short stop, informative signs explain the 'desert' well.

A place is for a small 15 min stop over to enjoy sand dunes in mountains.

Smallest desert in Canada. At the end of August we walked without shoes there and we enjoy the magnificent view as we also had a good weather. Try to go in summer without shoes. So much fun.
