It's a gorgeous old theatre with so much charm and beauty - sound is usually top notch and the beer is over priced, seriously it's $8 for a garbage beer. Still love it though
Wonderful old theatre for concerts. Beautiful decor and acoustics. Be careful when choosing seats, however. For some seats, the row in front will be right at your knees.
The show was great. 5 stars for the concert. Second balcony seating was horrid. No leg room. Knees pressed against seat in front all evening long.
Generally a pretty decent venue, drinks are pricey and it can get a bit warm but it's a gorgeous place and they do a pretty good job of moving people around in such an old building. Would be be nice if there was more floor space! It's theatre seating so when you wanna dance you don't have much choice but groove in your assigned seat.
Love this venue. Acoustics are good, every seat is easy to see from. Down sides are expensive drinks (Which is the same everywhere you go so not the venus's fault) and seating leg room is an issue if you're tall.
Went for a NeedToBreathe concert. The theatre is great. Beautiful stage, good seating (a little wanting in the leg room department), efficient ticketing. And the concert sound was fantastic!
First time coming to this venue. It's so beautiful and kinda cozy. We arrived early to avoid long lines. We had time to grab concert merch and some drinks and snacks with time to spare. There were staff everywhere available to help with seating. The front rows dont have drink holders so next time, I would get a seat in the 2nd row. Our drinks kept rolling away. Glad I got bottled drinks otherwise they wouldve spilled right away. The seats were comfy enough. The sound systems are amazing. Maybe next time I'll sit in the balconies.
Amazing venue in terms of view. I've seen a lot of great performances here. However, there's not a seat in the house I can sit in without having my knees up under my chin. Was designed at a time when no one exceeded 6 feet in height.
The stage and lights were great. It’s a bit small venue overall and washroom is acceptable.
Great hospitality. Great people. Great music. They know how to treat a band/artist. Thank you TNSE!
AMAZING SHOW TONIGHT!!!! First time here and loved it!!! The Burt Theatre is a very nice, comfortable venue which has a lot of character inside, beautiful decor and easy access to seats.... A true staple to Winnipeg. We seen Dwight Yoakam tonight and he was absolutely amazing, not to mention his opener William Prince who was also very good tonight and I will be bragging all week about my first time here. Both of these singers as well as their musicians, owned the night!!!!!!!!
This is a great venue, but definitely is due for a few renovations. Went to the Haters Roast in February and had a good time. 1st balcony is a really nice seating level!
This is a great venue! One of the last authentic Vaudeville theatres in Winnipeg and it has the slightly-worn comfort of an old shoe. Always enjoy going to concerts here.
Fantastic acoustics, saw Mother Mother with floor tickets recently and previously saw Rise Against from the absolute farthest back seats. Great sound and visibility no matter where you are, and a beautiful looking building in general.
Beautiful old building, smells like a nursing home and lacking air conditioning. Weird Al is pretty great though.
Wonderful vintage theatre!! Went to see the Russian Nut Cracker and it was wonderful. Anywhere you sit you'll have a great seat because it's so cozy inside and close to the stage. I loved the atmosphere and I'll for sure be coming again :)
Had a great time at the Burt block party that got moved inside. Not sure if it was just the short notice but the lack of air conditioning was very much noticed.
A wonderful venue for concerts. I have seen at least 2 dozen shows at the Burt and have always had a great time. If I have one complaint though, I'd like to see a better beer selection at the bar. Never disappointed to see on my favorite bands at the Burt.
Such a beautiful place . Great staff , a bit pricy for food and drink but it's the price you pay for a great time
This place has so much history and character! This was my first time here and I've lived in winnipeg for 35 years! I will go back to this place. If you haven't been here well what are you waiting for!?
Such a shame that this historic theatre is deteorating Looking around between acts and one sees crumbling ceiling areas and peeling paint . Great shows deserve a greater venue. Let's do a little renovation to keep it respectable
Good layout. Decent priced events. Bar and Merch stand are well placed in the entrance. I've always really enjoyed shows here.
Was there for the Blue Rodeo concert. What a great venue to so an iconic band. Amazing building with so much history. A true gem in Winnipeg.
Great experience. Double vaxxed only. Wasn't required to masked inside but free to anyways without judgement. Great feeling. Always a great time. rules around Covid constantly changing so masking could change.
I don't enjoy shows in dedicated seats, however, the historic purpose of this theatre is great. Sound is good. They are making improvements as well. Does not detract from seeing a favorite there.
2nd balcony who knew? Take Back Sunday Concert. Great show but sound up high not good. Was startled but amazed to see the "Pew Benches" A incredibly historic sighting. Have been upgraded I am told with cushions to distinguish each seat. A very long climb and no elevators in the theatre. Curious to hear a concert or muscian with a less complicated sound so one day I will climb those stairs again.
Beautiful venue. Probably one of the best in Canada to see live acts. Not a bad seat in the house it appears. Sound is good and seats are comfy. Wonderfully restored to its splendour. Small bar available and snacks as well. Parking sucks. Take a cab or other forms of transportation. Helpful staff will greet you and help you find your seat.
Great theatre. Just saw Halestorm. Amazing venue
The cheap seats are not the most comfortable (padded bench), but even against the back wall of the second balcony you still get a pretty good show.
Great historic theatre in Winnipeg's downtown and on the southern edge of the Exchange District. Beautifully restored to when it opened in 1911 as the Walker Theatre. Being an historic building there is limited accessibility for patron that have mobility issues. There are 68 stairs to get up to the 2nd Balcony seating and no elevators.
The "Burt" is a great old theatre with nice acoustics, good sightlines, and comfortable seating. Being more than 100 years old, it had an old time theatre vibe to it. There's even boxes where the rich or noble would've sat, separated from the working class. It's a great place to see a show and it has a great historic feel to it.
As a venue the WALKER Theatre is great. I worked there for many years as a teen and in my early 20's. Firstly it will NEVER be the Burt to me. Renaming it was vanity. I'm about uplifting history. My review is triggered by the even I went to this Sunday. Katya Help Me I'm Dying. The show was amazing. Katya was great. We paid 200$ a ticket for VIP. My issues were this: -the photographer the venue hired only took shoulder and up pictures with half the picture being backdrop above us. I spent 8 hours getting ready for this event. I don't want just headshots with my favorite drag queen. I wanted full body-ody! That was really disappointing. I hope you find a different photographer from now on, that knows what he or she is doing. Katya actually had to tell him to take pictures when we gave her the autographed picture! - despite meet an greet starting at 6 and the show not starting until 8, the bars were not slated to be open until 7pm! -the patio furniture in the fenced in area wasn't set up. -despite our very pricy tickets we were RIGHT in front of speakers. Pretty hard on the ears. Two of my friends couldn't hear anything after the show. -the laser cash machine broke down before doors even opened. All in all we had a great time, but that was about Katya Zamolodchikova.
Historic and grand, acoustically excellent, the Burt, named after local-born Burton Cummings of solo and Guess Who came, is an excellent venue for live music, with a floor with ramped aisles, left and right double loge balconies and two overhead balconies. Licenced concessions.
We saw the Proclaimers here and the acoustics were terrible. Even the opening act Jenny O was difficult to understand anything they sang or said, I had to google her to find her full name as I didn't understand what she said when she introduced herself. Very disappointing as we had heard such nice things about the sound quality in this grand old theater. It is a beautiful theater, but the very large speakers installed on either side of the stage may be too much, or the sound engineer had it all wrong. Kind of a shame they bashed holes in the ceiling to hang the suspended speakers on the sides of the stage too. It would take a real must see act to get us back there to see if it was a one off.
I really wish I could give this venue a higher rating. The theater itself is visually stunning, but the acoustics and ability to see the stage vary wildly depending on where you are sitting, and what kind of show you are there to see. Because it is a very old building, they lack elevators, making it largely inaccessible for people with disabilities, and they lack any form of interior climate control. It gets very hot in the theater, with no way to cool off. The acoustics were amazing for shows like Celtic Thunder and Celtic Woman, but not so great for some of the punk and metal bands I've seen play there. If you can get seats on the floor or the lower balcony, the view is amazing, but if you're thinking of getting seats in the upper balcony, don't bother. Save your money, and hopefully whoever you are there to see will come back so you can get seats that are actually worth buying tickets for.
Quite possibly one of the best music venues in the entire city. The accoustics are phenomenal, the view is almost perfect from every seat, and the architectural esthetics are so exquisite and breathtaking, making it an absolute cultural landmark. Its rather rare that you hear genuine acclaim over a venue from a big name act, but every band makes a point of offering praise and kudos to our humble city and this legendary arena. Finding your seat in the dark is difficult, and the concession prices are steep, but overall, one of my favorite places to catch an unforgettable show.
Still the best live venue in town, lots of history in that building
A beautiful venue for live performances. The washrooms and hallways are tight/small. It reminds me of Massey Hall in Toronto, with the three levels and nice detailing. Great location downtown too, close to many great restaurants and many parking options. Saw Bahamas in Nov 2021 and thought the sound mix was great too.
I liked the venue. People rave about the sound quality here, but I found it to be nothing special.
Seeing Quiet Riot and Wrecken So was amazing. The theater was beautiful. Acoustics were phenomenal. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great time all around!
We had a lovely time at this old/classic looking theatre!
Love concerts here! Medium sized venue which makes it feel intimate... and every seat is a good one!
Great shows every time I've been there. Good staff and a great venue!
This venue is definitely something to see. It's old historic look is pretty cool! There really isnt a bad seat in the house. If you are scared of heights sitting closer to the bottom I would recommend. There is tons of stairs to the top floor seating. Other then that not a bad venue.
Have been twice this year. This theater has so much character and the shows are much more intimate and involved in a venue of this size. A must attend if you love the band, you'll never be closer if you get floor seats.
The Burt, formerly known as The Walker, is a gorgeous Heritage theatre, but it is in need of repair. Accessibility is an issue as there is no elevator access to the 2nd or 3rd balconies.
Great sound for concerts, and good seating too. Stairs access only is a downfall, but adds to the charm.
An iconic theater in downtown Winnipeg. Great for plays, concerts, ballet and other events. There are a number of parkades in the area for easy parking.
Everything sounds better at the Burt. I have seen multiple shows here and every one has been a great experience. TNSE has done wonderful renovations making the floor have the ability to be seated or open, which greatly improves the types of shows that can be held. Balconies are old school, stairs only and quite steep and tight, but an old ornate theatre that is to be expected, the sound quality by far makes up for it as well as the beautiful atmosphere.
The building is beautiful, but was designed to amplify sound, which results in contemporary music sounding muddled or distorted. It often gets very hot inside. Balconies require several flights of stairs. Sometimes the bar closes mid-show. Service is usually excellent.
The theatre itself is very classically set up. There are many flights of stairs. Be prepared for a workout. The seats are nice and comfy. It seats up to about 1200 people I believe.
The Burt has been a constant treasure for Winnipeg! I've seen countless shows and will keep coming back!
Great venue. Gorgeous architecture and design. Very tight seating and little legroom however.
Absolutely love this place. The architecture inside is so beautiful and is a must see. Went to see the Russian Nutcracker, awesome performance. Parking is relatively cheap. Easy to get in and out of. Very clean facility and nice staff
Great to see live music again! A long time coming but the performances were worth the wait.
A really great concert venue. I have recently seen anthrax, Killswitch Engage (I would highly recommend you see them. They put on an unreal live show!), Stone Sour and Halestorm (one of the best rock shows you'll see! Fantastically talented and sweet drum solo!). Love the balance of good seating and good standing /murdering room. Come see a fun show in a good looking venue with good staff, you won't be disappointed.
It’s a great venue for concerts, but the concessions and concourse are a bit dated, but that does give it some of its charm.
Great venue. Be warned, it's old, so poorly ventilated. Tends to get warm.
Beautiful venue, great acoustics and lighting
Old style theatre venue. The first section of the floor level has new seats. The second deck gets hairy and the third is even hairier. Try to get a loge seat if possible. True North has taken over ownership so it is more professional and I think they've finally put in AC
Went to this place for the TMG live show (which was great) and had a good time. The food was a bit overpriced, but what do you expect from a theatre. Also why is Burton Cumming? Please answer the question I'm deadly serious.
The building itself is fantastic and I'm very glad that it's being used and preserved. That being said, I think the prices for concessions are getting a little bit ridiculous. I realize they need to make money, but at what point do they stop raising prices on everything? $5.50 for a slice of pizza is an absolute ripoff, and they certainly aren't cooking it on site.
beautiful theatre, but needs some modernization. great bands come here, but I won’t pay to see them because it’s all seating and there’s no general admission to stand and mosh. seats way to close together. and $9 beers are outrageous.
The renovations and seats done since the last time I was there are great. Sound quality with Alan Doyle was amazing. I saw there was 2 tv's that they live stream the concert on the second level.
I'm 6'4 and the chairs are extremely close together on the balcony. So I have no leg room... But I love the atmosphere of the venue. And despite how crowded it is upon exit... I did enjoy it.
Beautiful venue. You can tell it's brought up to date and maintained.
I'm reviewing this based on someone who performed here. There were quiet a few dressing rooms so lots of space for everyone. Showers and washrooms in the room and another washroom behind the stage. Though I didn't use it, there was a gym on the top floor that looked like it had everything to get a decent work out in. Big stage with lots of lights and good sound. All the staff seemed nice and professional.
Two friends and I went to see Neil Young and Crazy Horse at the Burton Cummings Theatre last night. This is a wonderful and historic venue in Winnipeg's down town. The staff were fantastic and the show was worth every penny!
The show was great but the theater is warm and the seats are awful. Hardly any leg room and I felt squished and uncomfortable the whole time. I am a small person. I can't imagine someone who is bigger or tall. Will never return to this theater
Beautifully restored old theatre. Just like going bsck in time. Small compared to present buildings but very cozy and i just love the ambiance and the looks...them again i love older buildings with its history
My first love had a date there. Needless to say it was a happy ending.
Great show..perfect venue
awesome place.. beytiful building. my only complaint is that on the balcony the audio seems to get amplified and can be a bit harsh on the ears compared to other venues... I assume this is because the theater was designed for acoustic and theatrical performances rather than concerts with massive sound systems... so the problem isnt really with the venue, but with the fact that they dont conpensate for the acoustics during amplified performances.
Amazing venue!!! Old world feel/ambiance..... friendly staff. I've loved every concert that I've attended here.
Saw Johnny Reid with my mother, who has knee and back pain. Be aware that there is no elevator or much accessibility in general. Lots of people complaining about accessing second balcony (about 5 sets of stairs- why even have this type of concert here when the demographic is sure to be older persons?) and that there was no railing by the stairs in the bathroom. The show itself was good, from what we could actually hear. The acoustics are awful, if your show is showing at a different venue - choose that one.
Seats in the balcony are tight for people 6ft and over. Yes definitely uncomfortable. I thought when there were renovations being done and thereafter being completed, that the issue would of been addressed... I will be sure to limit my time going to future events...
An amazing place to see live performances. Bands always sound amazing in this building and it's beautiful inside. They have removed seats for metal concerts so there is now a pit area which is awesome!
Epic show last night, January 21 (Half Moon Run with guest Taylor Janzen) in an amazing venue! No bad seat in the house, great acoustics and you can see and feel the history of this theatre. If this place is haunted, they are only there to enjoy the amazing experiences with us! Hope this place lasts forever!
I've been to the Burton Cummings Theatre a number of times for smaller venue events. The theatre itself is pretty old-school and somewhat worn, but I think that gives it a slight charm. Seating is fairly comfortable. Parking can be frustrating, as you have to scour the surrounding area for street parking prior to an event.
Old style theater with charm. Intimate theater. Grandchildren enjoyed the Fred Penner show.
Went to see PMJ perform in that incredible Theater. If you are ever going to see anything at The Walker/ Burton Cummings Theater try to get there early enough to have the opportunity to admire the beauty of the old building. The work is amazing.
This is a beautiful heritage building. Very old with steep rows of seats. The theatre has two huge box seats on either side of the stage. There are no bad seats in the house.
Saw the Legends of Motown - an excellent high energy group that presented the hits by the legendary entertainers. True North has spent money to upgrade the sound and lighting in the building. Only downside is the main floor was cool and a bit drafty from the cold outside air.
Not a bad venue. You will get a good view of the stage with most seats. Sometimes I wish the sound was better.
I love seeing bands here! We've been there so many times and it's always a great experience! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the security.... Some of them seemed to be in a bit of a power trip... A bit annoying.
This was an amazing experience the sound quality is awesome staff was friendly and as a smoker the heated smoking area was a great amenity I will definitely be looking forward to seeing another show in the future
This is the perfect venue for acts that would struggle to fill an entire arena. Without this building there are several artists that would be unlikely to make a stop in Winnipeg. They are continually working on upgrading this beautiful old facility. It still has some of the lustre from it's original incarnation as the Walker Theatre. I used to go here as a child when it had been converted to a movie theatre. I much prefer it's most recent incarnation.
Great venue. Acoustics are very good. Beautiful old theatre.
It is a really really old venue in need of major upgrades. Upper level seating is very high and doesn't offer a decent view. Seating is also extremely tight
Saw All Time Low here over the weekend!! This venue never disappoints!!
Dated, but still a great venue for live entertainment. Really not a bad seat to be had.
Don’t have any gripes with this venue other than that sitting at the back and top causes vertigo and a bit of dizziness for myself and everyone I’ve come to events with. Reasonable ticket prices for the most part.
Seats are to small. Upper most level is almost nauseating from the shear pitch of it. So many better venues in Winnipeg! Staff is great. Just don't like the building.
Been to this theater for a few concerts. I found that the sound was better in here than in the MTS Center. Needs better ventilation because it gets extremely hot in there during a show and you may leave drenched in sweat. Otherwise, a fantastic place to see your favourite bands live. There is also a rule against mosh pits so folks on the floor don't have to worry about potentially being in a situation they would rather not be in. All in all a nice building and older style theater but could use some small improvements.
Beautiful, stately old venue. Great gor live acts! Confusing numbering/lettering system for seats. Lots of confusion in early stages of show about who sits where?! Great sound acoustics.
The music was fantastic "Steve Hackett". Such a nice place. Could have had a better selection of imported beers, it sucked. Was a bit.warm. like to see more acts like this.
One of my favorite locations for events. The view from every seat is excellent and it's quite an intimate feel because of its smaller size.
This venue is beautiful, it's worth going at least once to experience this historic Winnipeg theatre. Now owned by True North this place will continue to draw in great acts and maintain the integrity of this building, though the prices are astronomical and the beefed up security now take away from the charm of this place.
Have always had a great time athe the theatre. Can see the stage from almost everywhere. It's a great place for concerts, comedy shows.
Went to Bill Burr. Great show and this is a great venue for stand up comedy. Good view from any seat in the place. Drinks are a little over priced but no more than any other venue in winnipeg. The seats at the very top are all wood benches so try to get tickets early to get a more comfortable seat. Love the old style of the building. Not much variety for food so don't go here hungry.
