Impressive and short. Has a video to watch and explains how everything worked and happened. Then walk in that boat and ask questions, they know their stuff. Very interesting overall. When I went it was in reno so I did not get to see everything but it was also temporarily free.

Classic "travel"from yesteryear-paddle boat sternwheeler. No smoking. No over night camping. Tours available during summertime. Watch children; this "classic" sits near our Yukon River. Enjoy this rare beauty.

A icon of history in Whitehorse. Sometimes used for events such as the Yukon Culinary Festival Costumes and Canapes event. You can see the history in the summer when it is open to the public. SS Klondike was the name of two sternwheelers, the second now a national historic site located in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. They ran freight between Whitehorse and Dawson City along the Yukon River, the first from 1929-1936 and the second, an almost exact replica of the first, from 1937-1950.

Fun stop to check out. It can be VERY educational, but then not nearly as much fun for the kids in the group. Just pick a few points to teach them and keep it fun. Loud/crowded when busy. Try to go when it's quiet. Staff are super helpful... If they have time.

Step into the past as your board the SS Klondike, a vessel used to carry people and cargo through Yukon and Alaska via the Yukon River. A little small though. Free admission for a self guided tour, $2 for a self guided brochure, and $6 per person for a guided tour. It'll take about 30 minutes to check out the entire thing, well worth your time!

(Translated) The Yukon River’s route was once the main transportation route in the region in summer. Since roads and railways were connected, river transportation has gradually decreased, and ships have gradually become a tourist tool. However, economic problems have put shipping in a dead end, and ships have stopped and changed. As hardware for tourists to visit. S.S.Klondike was transformed into a museum. The luck of the other ship "S.S.TUTSHI" was too bad. A fire changed the appearance of the ship. Only part of the wreckage was connected by steel frames to form the original ship appearance, which is sighing.

Dennis, our Parks Canada your guide was knowledgeable, great with the kids, entertaining and the restored Klondike 2 is a beautiful piece of our National history. My dad worked on board in the luxury tour years (1952-55), so this was very personally relevant for our family.

A must-see part of your Alaska visit. Stop by the information centre and get your flyer and then take the free self tour of the boat. The upper two decks are now off limits until they can get them structurally engineered to 2050 standards. Sadly supporting full loads on the actual river for decades isn't sufficient proof that is structurally sound for just a few lightweight tourists. the government, for our own safety, has made the upper decks off limits. Bogus!! THE Parts of the ship you can see are definitely worth the visit everything is restored it looks great. the boiler in the front is awesome and the two steam cylinders as well as numerous steam pumps in the rear of the boat look great. You can go to the first Upper Deck and walk on the back half of it. They have a short film, it's worth seeing before you go onto the boat so you'll better understand and appreciate what you were seeing. Highly recommended

(Translated) Nice ship, paddle steamer. But nothing special. If you are in Whitehorse, you can easily take this attraction with you. (Original) Nettes Schiff, Schaufelraddampfer. Allerdings nichts Besonderes. Wenn man in Whitehorse ist, kann man diese Sehenswürdigkeit aber problemlos 'mitnehmen'.

Fascinating to walk through, the SS Klondike is a beautifully preserved piece of history

Felix Girard

Our guide Kim was awesome and the boat is well preserve. Interesting to see how people travel the river back then. Sadly the upper deck is closed for renovations

Mike Spekreijse

Nice ship and history interesting. You can go on for nothing but there are no interpretive panels. You can buy a brochure from the info centre. Guided tours Are also available. I would suggest get the brochure and save 4$ over the tour.

Todd Smith

Worth the tour, very cheap.

Brian Clifford

Interesting but the top was closed for restorations

Fascinating. Only wish the Klondike was still running on the Yukon river. Even so, it gives you a feel for the time when steam boats like this were the lifeline of Yukon commerce. The Canadian National Film Board has some worthwhile historical footage of those days that can be viewed nearby.

Don the fireman gave us a fantastic tour today. Thanks so much for talking about Frank Slim. I have been reading about him and loved your story about him Canoeing down the Yukon alone at age 7.

Brian Thornton

Well preserved but lacks information about it that help give it some historical context.

I love the detail that the staff includes

We took the guided tour and it was really worth it. The guide made us feel like we were right back in the steam Wheeler time period.

The short film we watched first, with footage taken in the 30's, was informative. The guided tour guide made the visit even more interesting. I loved peering around the board in the aft ...to see the huge sternwheel!

Late in the season, the exhibit is interesting, since it is next to the river, with a little imagination, you could almost envision the sternwheeler working the river.

Carla Braun

Interesting and historic. Take the tour to find out about Mr. Frank Slim.

Martin MUC

(Translated) 18min film about the history of the ship and the other paddle steamers free in continuous loop in the small house before registration. In the registration, here are explained the various possibilities of the visit: free on your own, a small guide written for 2 CAD or participation in a guided tour. Very nice!

Half the boat was down for renovations so didn't get to see the whole thing, self guided tour was good.

Awsome. Wish the top deck was open. Still really cool visit.

Sheila Potts

We took the tour so we could learn more of our history. It was very informative and our guide very personable. Took us back in time.

Peg Jensen

I would put a "must see" rating on this stop. They gals giving the tours in period dress are very informative and knew answers to all questions asked by the group. It was a little disappointing that the upper decks were closed to the public due to refurbishing and making it structurally sound but hey, next time we come through it will still be there and probably be better!!! Lots of history here!!

Beautiful place

incredible and very photogenic.

The SS Klondike is a great place to see a piece of Yukon's history. At one time there were numerous paddle-wheels which traveled up and down the rivers of the Yukon. Today you can travel back in time and climb on this historic boat.
