I was born near the first and second Welland canals on Ontario st. in St.Catharines Ont.Lived in Port Weller East near lock 1 fourth canal.Watch my Ulster grandfather drain and open the gates at lock 2 fourth canal.home taken by seaway from my dad east of St.Catharines 1966,for the Fifth Welland Canal which was shelved by the Ontario conservative government.

I walk my dog along the walking path around the canal every morning. A lot of work has gone into the waterfront in Welland! Some areas still need a bit of work though.

Interesting to look at, but not "Recreational". Nobody was using it for anything, no canoes, kayaks, paddle board, swimmers, nothing. And we were barred because out little inflatable boat has a quiet motor. Empty and not recreational.

Great paved path for walking or biking, right along the canal, has some dirt side paths, some of them flood out easily so be safe if leaving the pavement

Favorite paved trail to walk, bike or run! Goes from Thorold to Port Colborne. I'll paddle it too! Lengthy, interesting and fun. It's great for all seasons, though it's never cleared in winter so can become icy.

Amazing trail, but manynof the parts has no trees so we were biking with not much protection from the sun. Other than that it is pretty good lake to lake trail. We enjoyed it!

Love strolling along the canal! So does my puppy. Nice community feeling, almost everyone say hi, smile ,comment on the weather. So good to have! Convenient for wheel chairs or strollers, bicycles any thing with wheels!

Really like everything going on here :) nicely decorated. I love the view and perfect for running/Exercising. Really is a beautiful place if you ask me :). Welland really is beautiful. I love just watching everything go by while listening to my music and running. I would totally recommend this place.

A great inner city 4 KM (one way) island trail between Welland River and the Welland Recreational Canal in the historic downtown core. Good for vigorous, fresh air, outdoor walking, biking, rollerblading or assisted conveyance. Well treed, paved and level for any age and ability. A second parallel route, more natural pathway and slightly uneven but easy walking. You can even walk with the Mayor on Monday mornings at 7:30 AM! (5 stars for a city trail - even though I like rugged conservation and wilderness trails even more).

Always a nice and calm walk here. Walking between the river and the canal is just nice. Very relaxing and I totally recommend it
