The Conservation area is a beautiful spot for a picnic, paddle, short walk, long hike and everything in between. There isn't a ton of parking, so always good to carpool if you can. There are bathrooms on site, picnic tables with shade and without, plus a spot to launch kayaks/canoes or take a tip. There are numerous trail options to explore, most that start as common trails and then diverge in different directions. Some of the longer trails are quite sloped, so medium to hard difficulty depending on your fitness level. The views are beautiful, as anyone who knows Northern Ontario can attest to. The rocky Canadian Shield, sprinkled with oddly shaped lakes, sloping shorelines and covered in Birch trees, is always easy on the eyes. Happy hiking!
Love taking my dog to walk the trails.
Great hiking trails of various lengths and difficulty levels with some great views. Terrain can get a little rugged with rocky formations, and thick above ground tree roots presenting a bit of a bumpy experience.
Laurentian is fun. A lot of the trails aren't kept up as there aren't any volunteers like there are at walden so the grass and bush get really long and grow into the trail. If you were pants your fine, if you wear shorts, get ready to have itchy, bleeding legs from hitting branches and picky brush for a bit ahah. But while thats an issue it also makes for a very "outdoorsy" feeling riding a trail like that.
Obviously marked trails. Nice wilderness setting with nice variety of scenery
Wonderful place to reconnect with nature, get some healthy exercise and enjoy the absolute beauty of the area, and, if you keep your eyes open, enjoy some local wildlife
Great challenging trails. Many trails to choose from. Breathtaking views, beautiful scenery. Peaceful.
Great mountain bike trails close to downtown Sudbury. Rocky and techy with short punchy climbs.
Beautiful peaceful place to kayak. An abundant amount of different wildlife.
Amazingly breath taking! Most beautiful trail to walk on with all the fall colours and floating bridge. Well worth the anticipation and excitement to explore new territory.
This is a beautiful place to immerse yourself in nature.
Great snowy trails Peaceful well mapped out
Hiked one of the shorter trails which was an easy walk. Came across a bear off to the side of the trail which was quite exciting for us. It acknowledged us from a short distance and we acknowledged it. No worries for either of us. It crossed the trail in front of us without a problem and went on it's way. We all respected each other's space and got to enjoy the experience. We also kayaked the lake which was another great experience. We came across many turtles sunning on logs.
The best set of trails inside the city.
Very close to town with easy walking trails on Lake Laurentian. Longer trails are also around for mountain biking and nature walks. Wonderful colors in the fall.
Great hiking trails. Some of them were not the best maintained and were muddy and bushy so I'd wear a proper pants and shoes for those trails. Some claimed they saw bears so I'd also suggest carrying a bear spray just in case.
Fantastic hiking and mountain biking trails! We've also enjoyed some of the guided tours they offer; very educational about the origins of the area and the plants and wildlife in our region.
It's great for what it is. Trails are well marked and clean and offer some pleasant views. Pretty limited parking for when it gets busy at the nature chalet, but there is a second parking lot further down the road that rarely seems to fill up. More than a day's worth of trails to explore.
Did the main 10km loop. Muddy and washed out in some areas and at one point had a tough time seeing where the trail continued, but overall, a very beautiful trail with some very scenic lookouts.
Great place to bring the pups ???? and what a beautiful view! Well organized trails easy to follow great hiking ????
One of my all-time favorite places during summer and winter.
Great place to walk and hiking
A great little park right in the middle of a great little city!
the conservation area is beautiful and has wonderful hiking trails. an excellent example of the canadian shield. the only reason i gave them 4 stars is because they used pressure treated lumber for their boardwalks on the shore line (in contact with the water, beavers and other wildlife). this choice of material contradicts their ethos of conservation.
Really beautiful. The staff that took us on a guided hike were very helpful and taught us a lot as we prepare a project we are completing with them.
Very nice and quiet place
Pack a lunch and spend an afternoon exploring. Bring your fur babies and don't be afraid to veer off the path. You might find a nice blueberry patch.
Very nice trails to walk, people are friendly, and nice pictures to be taken. There are lots of little black and white finches that you can feed from the hand if you can stay still.
We have only hiked the 1km trail so far. It's beautiful and easy to follow. There is some elevation and rough terrain so I would not consider this to be an accessible trail for those with mobility issues. Dogs loved it!!
Really beautiful conservation area. Nice calm waters and good weather when I visited made for a great hike and even better photo opportunities!
Such amazing trails.. truly feel amazing to be in the nature.. it was just a calming experience.... its worth your time ❤❤
There are many routes to follow here, with one being a simple loop past the water. It's beautiful and the land here is great to connect with! Also makes for a challenging run if you are into trail running!
There are a series of well-marked trails ranging from a couple of kms up to 10 km. The trails are not over-groomed so you still feel like you're walking in the wilderness rather than a wide gravel path or similar. The trails can get pretty technical in places so wear your hiking boots and leave the stroller in the car.
Always beautiful, the trails are so great with even better views
Completely unexpected - beautiful, clean natural area with excellent trails in the middle of a city that has a reputation for being barren and polluted
The best place to hike in the Sudbury area for beginners
Beautiful scenes everywhere you go, the paths are very well maintained thanks to the Lake Laurentian Conservation Volunteer Team, great work!
Did the Laurentian loop with 2 friends and my dog. One friend didn't have proper foot wear so took us 5 hours 15 minutes. Great fun, but come prepared. Lots of rock hills and marshy lowlands.
Nice hiking trails, beautiful views
Always love to hike the well marked trails. We go back often!
Hiked the Laurentian Loop, well kept trail and easy to follow. Took roughly 3.5hrs, it is rocky so proper footwear is necessary but there's lots of bridges and walkways to avoid swamps.
Nice lake view from top .. it was awesome
A gem in the heart of Sudbury with great hiking trails, a beautiful lake for paddling, lots of wildlife, and a storybook trail by the nature chalet.
Absolutely love this place. There are a range of trails to choose from. We saw a turtle and a snake too! :)
Love hiking here. A few of the trails could use a little extra love. Weren’t able to complete them due to them being so wet. Otherwise great time and the pets love it!
Great place to take the family. Our 4 year old loves it. ❤
A really calm and relaxing place with lots of hiking trails. You can also bring your boat or kayak and enjoy some quality time in the water. Also, don't forget to keep an eye out for bears!!
I ABSOLUTELY Love all the different hiking trails. Beautiful scenery. Just remember bug spray.
Nice area recommended for visit when stay in Sudbury
Awesome hiking area for me and my wife
Beautiful area right in the heart of the city. Very easy access and a variety of trails. You can go for hours or for a short km walk. Great place for the dogs to go. This is a conservation area so please clean up after yourself and stay on the trails! Great kayaking and canoeing. Kids camp in the summer. We are lucky to have this.
Beautiful and amazing trail. Lots of places to discover. Just get out here and start exploring.
An excellent choice for a group outing. There was lots to do for all ages, from 2-3 year olds right up to teenagers and even adults. Staff were friendly and informative. Lots to see at Lake Laurentian Conservation Area!
Awesome hike. Did the 10k in under 2 hours. It's got some pretty challenging spots so if you're a novice hiker take that into consideration.
The trails are never too busy and it is really easy to switch up your hike depending on how you are feeling. It is beautiful and peaceful
Very nice place in summer...
Well taken care trails...the only negative was the sightings of many bags of dog droppings left along the trail. I just don't understand how dog owners can do that. ????
Excellent place for biking and hiking.
Beautiful 10km hike, well marked, and well used.
A good place for fishing and having a hike
Great place for a hike to enjoy the outdoors
Lovely trails. Well maintained. Little bit crowded, but thins out in the bush.
Always a great time, fun trails, easy to moderate and not over populated. Great in winter as well.
Beautiful place
Wow! What a beauty! I think I took the wrong trail. It took 6 hours to get out of there. Yep! I climbed like three mountains it was crazy. Just say I was a little sore the next day. But hey the beauty of it all makes up for it. Don't forget to bring extra water too. Got to keep hydrated. Yep!
Amazing place to BBQ on a nice summer day and the trail is amazing and long. You will not be disappointed. The markings on the trail are easy to understand and makes it easy to walk the mile
Beautiful and well maintained trails. Such a nice place to walk or run around.
Came here with my family and taught both my nieces how to fish for the first time. The only thing we caught was weeds and sticks but had a wonderful time.
Beautiful, well maintained trails. Fall is the best time to walk them.
Spectacular place for a hike. We read the blackfly story from start to finish with parts to read all along trail. We also see alot of wildlife and a snake eating a lizard.
It's a beautiful place to hike, run, walk or just enjoy the beautiful scenery of Northern Ontario!
The trails are very well maintained and clearly marked. The staff always makes sure the trails are well preserved and protected from animal interference. The variety of trails suits every skill level and is a great place to go in the middle of the city.
Beautiful place, interesting geology! I found some malachite just off the trail.
Beautiful park and trails. It's about 15 minutes drive from the town of Sudbury. It has some beautiful hidden trails and all the trails are scenic and beautiful. The best time to go there is during fall. During proper fall. This is one of the best place to see colours of fall. Make sure you bring your camera.
It is really fun to be able to enjoy nature just steps from your front door. Paths and walkways are very well maintained. Great place to explore!
Trail by ski hill was a nice 3.5k walk with the fall colours but about 75% of the trail was flooded, I recommend wearing waterproof hiking boots.
Meditation to the fullest when you have a time with no one there as well. Stress clears on the long trail. Beautiful everything if you’re smoking medication be smart don’t and not ruin this for non smokers and kids. Bless UP!
Beautiful hiking trails
I love hiking here. And my daughter does too. We also have a great time snowshoeing across the lake to have a picnic and enjoy the views.
Very popular beach in the city with lifeguards.
Had a great afternoon at an organized family winter day ice fishing.
We love to walk in this place
This place is a regular spot for our photo sessions...the views are gorgeous and the trails are exquisite. Highly recommend.
This area has honestly made me consider moving to Sudbury.
Little bit hidden , but worth the trip. Have a good hiking boots.
Beautiful location with well-maintained trails. Love the story book trail idea, so much fun for the kids.
A beautiful place to reflect and wander through nature.
Awesome trails. Great for hiking, running, or biking. Trails range from easy walking paths to moderate cycling trails.
Best recreational trails in the heart of Sudbury! Stunning vistas and peaceful forest walks await! The 10 km trail around the lake is long but worth it!
Visited mid October and the leaf colors are gorgeous. Worth going here with family and friends or on your own. Great hiking trails - well kept and trails are all marked for easy use!
A wonderful set of easy to moderate hiking trails which have been a staple of outdoor hiking in the Sudbury area for decades. Free parking, well maintained, and many loop options for hikers of different skills. Many scenic vistas. Due to how busy it can get, it can be tricky to maintain social distancing in some spots. Parking is free and generally plentiful.
Excellent place for a walk, a hike, a bike ride, or anything else available in the water. The trails are clean and well maintained & signed. There's a few available parking so if it's full, go to the other. Bring good shoes for most trails. And trust the signs. If they say it's a big climb, trust it!
It's beautiful here and has great nature trails to hike. Fun for kids and dogs as long as they're on leash. There's even an area where the birds will fly down and eat bread right from your hand so bring bread in spring and summer.
Beautiful Lake! What a sight to see!! Perfect for canoeing, kayaking, etc.
Laurentian University has many lakes and this lake has a beach, water was cold but it is very enjoyable place. There is nearby the golf club ,one path is from there to go to the beach through the woods and another you can find on Google maps.????
Great place to hike
I use this trail system all year long. Very well maintained, love using these trails.
Amazing trails. Great place to bring bird seed and feed the birds. Also, has some great spots for geocaching. Beautiful views!
Ran the 6.2 mile trail around the lake... It's a wonderful trail for hiking and running. We saw Beaver, Loon, and several Hawk.
Trails are easy to hike and the scenery is great, lots of fun to an afternoon there!
The place is awesome to fish and hiking, but be aware that there are snakes and I also saw a black ???? once.
Nice trails for hiking enthusiast's
Trails in good shape early Jan 2021. I was happy for traxxs /boot spikes on steeper sections.
This is a beautiful place to visit whenever you feel loneliness and you will get yourself refreshed . This area will help you improve your health and clear your mind and body. We used to drive by this place after our grocery shopping for the week as the lockdown is strict and we can't visit anyone or any place.
Anyone passing by or moving to Sudbury should make visiting the trails through the conservation area a priority. No city in Canada has what Sudbury has in the center-ish of the city.
Great experience. Doable with a 19 month old toddler.
It's beautiful, but the trail signage is both limited and confusing.
We broke thru the snow covered trails. It was fairly easy to follow the trails at that time because the leaves were not on the trees yet. A few areas were difficult to navigate, but all in all it was a great fresh hike. There are different trails to choose from
Good place for a nice hike. If you access from Ida street don't park in the area by the entrance. One of the homeowners nearby will call the city and have you ticketed.
Amazing trails and great Pike Fishing! Love that they banned the use of Gas Motors on this lovely lake.
Though the terrain might appear a bit rough, it was very nice to walk there.
It was lovely, though some trail markings back to the parking lot were misleading. Took a wrong turn and did a 9km hike instead of the 3km we had planned.
Gorgeous place with amazing walking trail and lookout points.
Amazing place to take the family on a hike, small loops, and bigger loops . Nice spot to take a kayak as well
This is a great place to hike. MANY trails to choose from.
Beautiful place to take a hike or walk with the family
Great trails, lots to see. Fun for the whole family
One of the best trails around! I try and get out as much as possible! Would recommend to anyone looking to have a full day of hiking, so many different trails and beautiful scenery!
There are many trails here that are lovely. You can go for a short or a very long hike. It is up to you. The trails are well marked and well cared for.
Amazing trails . Great nature hike. Bring good durable shoes
Lake Environment is Beautiful and Peaceful
This was a great place .It has some awesome trails here ???? Definitely coming back in the summer .Also has year round washrooms open .
Amazing place. Great photo op
A beautiful local nature area....in everybodys back yard..we should all be proud.enjoy.
The most scenic road in sudbury (within the city) is south bay drive leading up to Lake Laurentian Conservation Area. The parkland offers trails for kids (storybook trail), hiking, and flat trails for bikes or strollers. You can bike a 30km loop of Lake ramsey via moonlight beach and Howie drive.
Best trails of Sudbury love the bush there it's peaceful and relaxing with the birds that come eat out of your hand it's pretty cool place
Awesome trails and scenery! Well maintained.
Lovely place for a hike! We did the loop trail, well marked.with nice scenery. If I lived in the area, I'd be a regular :)
Love the trails here. We go all the time!!
Its a very beautiful place. If I lived nearby it would be my goto place!!!
Great trail, just keep an eye out for bears.
Always a beautiful hike and can take the dog.
I ran a 50k race this past weekend in this conservation area having never been there before. It was beautiful to the point of being breathtaking and made the grueling experience something I'll never forget. The many lookouts offered incredible vistas showcasing the gorgeous fall of the Laurentides. 100% recommend an hour or two long hike if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed.
Beautiful trails. Discovered there are 3 types...easy medium and difficult. Did the difficult and realized only after we were done that we finished the difficult one.
The full trail was a great challenge and there's a lot of rocks and elevation changes for the avid hiker. If you're in Sudbury and want a good workout, do the full 10km loop!
Good place for a walk trails well maintained
Gorgeous trail. Highly recommend it.
Such a beautiful park with many trails that can take up to three hours to walk! The trails are kept clean and the terrain is beautiful.
beautiful place. great for fishing(no gas motors allowed)
Very clean and peaceful. Washrooms at Nature Chalet were respected. Beautiful Lake for Kayak/ Canoe/ Paddle Board as its Motor Free. Little Piece of Paradise
Beautiful area, it's quiet, there is lots of trails, some are small and some are long hikes. There are smaller trails for kids for families looking to get them involved. Some trails connect to others. Highly recommended for hikers who want to challenge themselves for a day hike.
Very beautiful walk around lake Laurentian. Quite easy, though there are a couple small rock climbs. This path is subject to flooding (I had to wade through a couple paths that turned into streams in early September). Good footwear will be required during off-season.
Great hike and amazing natural scenery!
Honestly had a blast out in the Bush in this location . Me and a friend went out to build a quinze on the weekend that we were going to sleep in the next weekend . We had a fire some laughs and some hard work shoveling the snow pile to compile the quinze . All was awesome untill it came time to dig it out , it collapsed on me with 6 feet of snow that left me with a mouth full of snow and no air happy. Luck was on my side I had a friend to dig me out . 3 more seconds I wouldn't have walked out out if lake laurnetian area . But is probably one of the most exciting near death experiances I've had is in the lake laurnetian conservation area . I'd highly recommend everyone checks it out !
Absolutely best hiking trail I've been on.
I love this site because it has simple paths or harder..depending how I feel I get to choose. Nature is my heaven and calm..we are lucky to have this in our city.
So many great places to fish . In the last couple days we've caught 8 fish. Trails aren't stroller friendly but the 4 kids we brought (2, 3, 12 & 13) had lots of fun running the trails . Blueberries galore for them to pick in these trails!
I love this area! We kayak here often and usually see turtles when it's sunny. The hike around the lake is also really great. Only downside is parking, but worth it anyway.
