we visited this as it was on our walk in/out of town - it is a great little museum about how st john's used to hold PORT in this winery because it had the right environment and a good distance for Portugal to get to its other customers - visit .. look around - take some pictures - have a sip of port - its small but worth the visit. you can also get a deal at The Rooms with your ticket purchase. also visit the rooms - it is a large museum and well worth the visit.

What a wonderful place to stop and enjoy the heritage. It's a must stop while traveling. It's well worth the walk there, from parking at the downtown church.

Nice mini-wine tour. Walking distance from downtown, great place to discover and learn more about wine trading history! We tried the wine sample and it was great!! 4$ pass for students and with the card you get to enter the commissariat house and the rooms! ????

Tony Medeiros

Great place with lots of history and the guide was very knowledgeable.

Ron Mosocco

We toured the Newman's Wine Vault where Portuguese Port wine was aged until 1996 when they stopped because it cause it was out of their country. All started back in the 1600's when a ship evaded pirates and pulled in here, they unloaded the port and hid it in caves. They returned the following year to retrieve this wine and everybody was clamoring for this port as it aged so well.

Robert Young

Very nice venue for small events. Quite a lot of history. With nice interpretation boards. Staff were very nice.

RobertandKristin Breen

Had one of the staff give us a tour, in stead of walking through on our own... definitely a better idea!

Paolo V

Interesting part of Newfoundland's history. We came by because we had a bit of time to kill before our flight. It was worth the low entry cost, but there's not much going on in there. You get a tour and a tasting of Port wine with admission. There was a fun game of trying to guess the different wine notes/aromas. I think we were in there for about 30 min.

Katherine Argueta Turcios

Love the mini wine tour! Staff was very friendly and provided us with tons of recommendations for town!

Simon Vaz

A short tour but very interesting. Our guide was very informative and amusing. We had the opportunity to sample some port and then to try our noses at working out what fragrances we could detect. Epic fail but fun. We came away both agreeing that we were glad we had visited.

Tania Massia

Great place to stop! The Hop-On Hop-Off bus stops here!

Gene Faltus

Interesting and different kind of attraction. Well worth it if you have a provincial park pass.

Aidan Leach

Short but interesting tour with a sample of port. Good rainy day activity. Will only take 10 to 15 minutes.

Chelsea Pritchett

Very interesting. Guides are very friendly and they know the info about the vaults.

Jordan Hodgson

Had some tasty port and learned a bit about the history, great place to pop by and check out.

Dennis Rice

The story of Newman Wine Vault is an interesting one (Portuguese vessel stranded in Newfoundland and storing port casks, which took on a great taste and created a tradition) though I'm not sure I believe it. Still, the staff is very …

Isis .Pordeus

Historical site. Interesting story about how Port Wine ended up in Newfoundland!!

Christopher Oates

I would give this place 5 stars except for the fact that it is so tiny - I would have liked to see more, but at the same time what they have on display is fascinating .. the tour guide was very knowledgeable and personable .. and it was great that our entry allowed us access to The Rooms and Commissariat House.

Alex Soubliere

It was everything it was advertised to be. Silly me, I actually thought there would be wine. My bad.

Ana Kronia

The place is rather small, but the tour was a great experience ! The lady giving the tour was very passionate and knowledgeable, we learned a lot about the history of the entire island ! We were not expecting, much but it was one of the best experience we had in our whole trip. Highly recommended, hats off to the amazing guide who made that visit unforgettable !

Jessica Smith

Beautiful little historic wine vault. The staff are fantastic to talk with.

L Kay

Small place but nice information presented. Got to taste a port wine. Tour guide was helpful and very nice.

Sonya Richmond

The historical feel of this site, the friendly staff, great displays and the opportunity to taste a sample of Newman's! Wonderful and a must.

Chris Anderson

This is a very small museum. Don't expect to be there for more than 10 min.

Alain J. Cusson

Very interesting visit. The cost of entry is very reasonnable and lets you visit the Commissariat too. The Guides are very helpful in explaining all the historical aspects of the vaults and wine conservation in St-John's. The tasting is also included in the price of entry which makes it even more interesting. So if you are not into drinking port wine at 9 AM, program your visit for later in the day. However, this is one of the must see in St-John's in my opinion.

Jolene

Newman Wine Vaults is definitely a good place to visit. I love the feeling of being in the tunnels and the wine tasting. The staff is usually great. And they have a scavenger hunt to make the place really interactive.

patrick cochrane

Nice e historyand a taste of port

Elaine

Staff were friendly and the tour was quick. Not really a lot to see. The link between Portugal and Newfoundland is interesting. The setting is unique but wouldn't be on my list of Must See.

Dave Roberts

We had a colorful guide. Interesting history.

Larry Roberts

Interesting place to visit but very small

Nikolay Komissarov

Great place to learn local history with the amazing guide Ann.

Natalie Baldwin

Love this place ❤

Katrina Nichols

What a gem. We learned so much from our very knowledgeable guides, a d who can argue with a tour AND port tasting for such a reasonable entry fee?

Roy Douglas

Great place to visit. Historic

Sarah Lane

Very interesting history on newfoundland and port!

Jason Penney

Have not toured yet but it's high on my summer fun list
