Went for my Nephews 2ed birthday. Had a great day with the family train is old school and the views are okay.
My little girl loved going on the train. I greatly appreciate the great work the volunteers do and had a great time.
One of the best short and inexpensive trips we ever had. The price of the train tour is like peanuts. This low price is only possible because the whole operation is run by highly experienced volunteers. Take this trip ASAP before they permanently shutdown!
Very charming little scenic tour of Tottenham and Beeton. Thank you to all the volunteers in their efforts for preserving a piece of locomotive history.
Not really what i expected....the lokomotice was diesel, not steam engine, but lunch at nearby Cedar place made it worth the trip.
I went there with my wife for Fallsview and it was beautiful experience.
Great to ride the old steam lady!
A beautiful place, cute train and amazing team of volunteers who run and manage this place. I was amazed to learn that every single person working at this place is a volunteer. Kudos to their dedication and sacrifice (they give up their weekends during most of spring, summer and fall).
Felt we were going back in time and a very informative narration enjoyed the experience
Nice Team... They are doing their best to satisfy the customers...
Abandoned railway line near Totenham pond. There is a free small parking area once you cross it, to hike the opposite side of the conservation area.
Love the Christmas train ride, I've arranged group of 25 plus ppl for the last three yrs and we all love it.
Interesting short little train ride. Some of the cars, the sitting is very tight, no leg room, so it was good it was a short ride. Was very crowded but with assigned seats no worries about getting a seat. The conductor was good and very informative. It was a nice afternoon.
Good for kids.. but not much interesting for adults and seniors.. cons, leg room is very short between seats.. 30 minutes train ride takes you from people's backyard to Nowhere.. I was expecting but train ride was boring.. Pros, good place for photography, less crowdy, heritage style station look m feel..
Excellent vintage experience
Lovely little train ride, nice hiking nearby. Great fall activity
Great for kids my 4 year old love it
I wanted to give this one star, but I gave a second for the effort they put in. We took the Halloween train ride. There were young child thrills, but anyone older than 10 will likely be bored. This was a miserable experience. Our ride was on Oct 27. It was dark and rainy, and there was nowhere to park, and we arrived early. Parking was not well marked, either. The train is not heated, so it was like being outside the whole time. There was no indication of this anywhere in the info email, so we were not dressed for the weather. Also, the diesel exhaust came into the train car and made us feel unwell. I wouldn't do this again. The staff was friendly though.
Although there was no fall scenic that the train took us through, but the ongoing commentary by the operator was hilarious and informative, and it was all so well organized. 5 stars for sure!
My husband and I came here on the first weekend they reopened, and it was a really fun trip! The conductor shared some really fun facts about the history of Ontario's rail systems and kept us engaged throughout the short ride to Beeton. The train itself is an authentic 1920s train and it was so neat to see the original interior of the train. HUGE kudos to the volunteers who run this station to keep the heritage alive!
Good experience for everyone Nice ride as well.
If you're a Steam Railway fan, this is a must see/do. The engines are lovingly restored to full working condition and run during the season from Tottenham to Beeton and back.
Dont try to go if you dont live around. What you see in pictures or in blog actually you dont get it. Train goes half hour one way amd comes back after that. You see peoples bavk yard and empty farm.
No longer a viable attraction. Have no idea why it still shows up as an attraction.
Wonderful experience to ride a historic steam train.....Not for everyone.....if you have spare time walk South along the tracks for a beautiful walking path
Its s best place for kids.lste October when the trees are orange and red is the best time.
Nice leisurely afternoon ride. Kids are obsessed about trains so hit the spot for them.
Waste of money and time, nothing to see,90% of the trip was people' house backyard!!!
Though the train ride was short and the views were nothing very exciting, overall experience was good. Person who was doing voice over was quite funny and he personally talked to each and every passenger making them all feel very welcome.
It was too boring, both the train ride and the views.there was nothing beautiful at all about the scenary. As boring as a subway ride. Complete waste of money and time.
Great value for the money
It was a good experience. Santa Clause visits each seat and talk to people. Tglhe trip takes around 45 min as round trip.
It's a great train ride if you are into trains and want to know about their heritage and history. But if you are there for sight seeing then look elsewhere. While farms on one side give you a nice view on the other side you can peek into the backyards of residents and intrude their privacy. It's a 1hour ride to and back from Beeton, no stops, no getting off.
A great 1 hour ride to enjoy the bucolic charm of Ontario. The carriages, engine and track, with rich heritage, are supported by voluntary work of extraordinary group of people. Truely "yours to discover !"
3 star just for volunteers who help this 1920 train up and running till this day and the mic guy who told history in a funny way but can't give the whole experience a good review cause there is not much to see even in October and the train track did not have a scenic view but in Covid time when there is not much to do, road trips and train trips are the only one day trip options.
We went on the roughly 1 hr Tottenham to Beeton return trip. It was a fun experience - all the people running it are volunteers and friendly. Lots of interesting information over the speakers during the trip and the cars were comfortable and obviously lovingly renovated. Clearly marked parking and some good restaurants in Tottenham for before or after your trip.
Expensive and no fun at all. Nothing to see. Short trip.
Would be a good historic visit.
It was such a pleasant trip, fall colour train.
Nobody cares about the railways anymore. But this tour will give you a glimpse of what life was like in early Canada when there were no cars or roads. If you wanted to get somewhere, you took the train
Nice train. Like back to the past. Very short travel. Not a very exciting experience like what I expected (going into woods and seeing picturesque areas)
Its a lovely place to spend with family and friends. Its located about an hour drive from Mississauga/Toronto. Parking near this station is free on the street as well as in the public parking place. Its reasonably priced at 15CAD pp and the total journey is around 45-50 mins. Best time to visit is during fall season.
Fun for the whole family staff were great ride was about an hr will be back for sure
Very cool train ride, about an hour, pulled by a steam locomotive over 100 years old
Authentic 1920's era train cars. Interesting train ride between Tottenham and Beeton Ontario.
It was a nice ride and the conductor was great with lots of information and history.
It really is a great time for the kids. Santa visits with every child.
Lovely train ride - approximately 50 minutes in length. Commentary from the conductor was amusing and very informative. Conductor came by at the end and was very kind to all the passengers. Vintage aesthetic and overall just a fun activity. Definitely recommend for train enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike.
Great experience. Highly recommended.
Very noisy people and bad speakers. Couldn't hear the commentary and the bits I could make out sounded like interesting history. Slow train but fun ride
Loved this! Great staff who are very welcoming. The stories are told with great enthusiasm. I look forward to visiting again and experiencing the different events you have to offer.
Don't waste your money, the train just goes through the backyard of done houses only.
Train is old and so cute. Better to go when trees are really colorful, first week of October, we couldn’t see fall. It’s really clean inside and big windows to see outside.
The train ride is only 30 minutes long. Not worth it as you hardly get to see autumn colors. But still good to support the community.
Credits to the volunteers who made the train ride possible, and especially to the Conductor for giving us the history of the train, tracks, and what it was like to live in the area during the operation of the train service. Tourist tip for those people planning for this ride, is to get seats on the east/right side of the train for better views. The ride up to Beeton was enjoyable, but there are better places to see the fall colours during this time.
Loved the tour and the historical details, the guide was funny and the views fantastic. If you have motion sickness try to change seats and face front, we didn't think of it and got sick.
Nostalgic one hr ride in heritage wagons. If lucky you are pulled by a steam engine. This is great for a family that seeks a close to Toronto weekend destination. Interesting history and time travel to 100 years ago if you can imagine.
This train journey was amazing! I had booked the Falls Excursion, and the commentary throughout the journey was highly entertaining, and full of history! The train ride itself was beautiful and lasted about 45 mins. I would definitely recommend this for everyone!
Neat historical train ride with great volunteer staffed guides giving you a snap shot of the history of the land.
Nice little journey in a classic rail coach.
Fun for the family. Love the Santa express
Great experience for young or old
Well worth the ride. This is a well preserved track, but sometimes they run the diesel engine rather than the old steam engine. The entire trip back and forth is about an hour. The special seasonal events like the Christmas train are excellent for kids. The Santa is AMAZING!
Fun experience with the kids. Beautiful countryside.
So much fun with amazing voews
Such a fun Sunday afternoon day trip! Well organized with covid restrictions in place. Conductor was educational and funny.
Not exactly thrilling, but a nice slow family outing.
Visit this attraction every second year and I always enjoy it.
Fun for the family
I went for the fall colours tour with my wife and 3 kids. They are all volunteers and do a wonderful job. The train is huge and impressive. The trip is short, but still a trip I recommend every to do at least once in your life. Tottenham is a quaint little town, so if you make the trip, plan to make a day of it.
Great back in time experience. Away from the city crowd you get a chance to enjoy the train and the vintage setting. Anything like taking your kids there, cycling, walking the dog or all of that combined makes for life lasting memories.
Charming place, friendly staff, historic steam engine and low on commercialism. Need more places like this in the world!
Lovely little family outing.
Such a fun activity for all ages.
Lovely heritage location. One of the last steam locomotives in North America. Do check to make sure they are running before you come out as they do not operate on Saturday's. Great fun for the whole family. Volunteer run which is very impressive.
It's not a long ride , but they explain all about our rail system and how it became the way it is today.
Enjoyed traveling on an historic train!
Volunteers are great.
Much shorter than i expected..and not muxh to see
Not what I expected in terms of seeing Fall colours. The experience was bizarre...restaurants don't open until 2PM or 4PM in some cases so plan ahead. As most people have stated, you look into the backyards of homes. Pop in 3 bucks on the TTC and you are bound to see more fall colours than I did. The train itself was neat. Nothing to see. Keep moving
It is a great 30min train ride adventure. The train goes back and forth between Tottenham and Nowhere but doesn't have any stop. You get to enjoy the train experience along scenic track, plus the very humorous captain whose stories and jokes will keep you entertained all ride long.
5 Mile ride to the north of town. Takes about 1 hour trip. Nothing exceptional to see. If you're lucky you'll see a big snapping turtle.
My son adores the steam train. This steam is so so dramatic and a must-see for every kid who loves trains. Try the Polar Express where the steam is Amplified by the cold air.
Round trip takes about 50 mins. Guides are pretty knowledgeable and share interesting local stories through the journey. Parking lot is pretty close and has ample spots. Steam engine is very awesome.. kids will just love this trip..
Amazing experience for my kid to ride a train. Great work by volunteers.
I wouldn't not recommend for a day trip as there's nothing much to see apart from 1920s train. This is just a 50 minutes ride after boarding the train and there's no destination.
Thank you to all volunteers doing a great job to take the train passengers traveling in a 1920 train and sharing the history!
great time at the Santa Express!
Slow and not terribly scenic - neat to hear about Ontario's railway history
Kids 2 & 4 loved it, was nice to ride a historical train. The train car we rode in was almost 100 years old. It doesn't run very fast, maybe 6-7 km over 30 min so kids have time to enjoy the views of the river, ravines and some neighbors back yards =)
Went for easter express...very nice experience. Kids will love the train journey.
Best value for money! Great sevvice and best experience!
Small and interesting rail yard.
Cool trains and incredible people. Enjoy!
It's is very boring. There's no colorful trees to see. But sitting in this train is nice because it's old. For the fall view, there's nothing to see.
We took my son here for a birthday party. It was neat watching the train pull into the station and there was a musician playing the clarinet, which provided an old time feel. The ride is roughly an hour long and the history of the train is interesting enough, but I didn't really see much on the actual ride. I would say that it's worth checking out at least once.
I was a little disappointed that the station was not open and while waiting there was not much to do with 2 kids under 5 It would have also been nice to have been able to purchase water. The Engineer is not friendly but the tour guide was informative. I enjoyed the ride but was expecting to be in the steam train. Couldn't even get a decent picture of it with a pick up truck parked in front of it.
Great experience for those who appreciate.
The South Simcoe Railway is a steam heritage railway in Tottenham, Ontario, north of Toronto. Operating excursions since 1993, it is the oldest operating steam heritage railway in Ontario and features the second oldest operating steam locomotive in Canada. ????
Nothing interesting to see. It's a waste of time and money here.
Worth the money! We were yelled at when we were taking some pictures by the stationery train models by staff which was a bit insulting, but otherwise lovely experience. The train ride is well organized and memorable. The fact that it's run entirely by volunteers is really touching. The commentary on the drive is really useful to hear and keep you engaged in the experience. Much recommended for younger age groups.
Nice train, beautiful decor but cold train in the winter.
The Fall Colour Excursion ride is a great family friendly experience that immerses you into rich Ontario railway history while travelling across a beautiful scenic landscape filled with beautiful fall colours. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for something to do on the weekend.
This was a great little day trip! It's hard to believe that it's all volunteer run... The trains were ancient, but clean and well maintained. Great trip for a little kid! He loved the conductor hat! The conductor doing the "tour" was funny, and informative -- have to love the 'town'of Nowhere... Great trip!
It was nice, but it is a one time thing.
A very interesting place! Soak up the history as you travel in 1920's style.
Santa train ride is great experience for the kids, staff are extremely pleasant.
I thought the Santa ride was way over price compared to what other train ride does this one offers 1 candy cane and Santa. Plus our seats were not together and I booked it all at once. Would NOT recommend it!
South Simcoe Rail is the oldest operational private rail system in Ontario circa 1920s. It is run by volunteers. Great for observing the Fall colors or even private birthday parties. They even have a mighty Gorge to cross (ask Bob)
Very clean and friendly staff. Sadly all tickets were sold out !
It was a pleasure to see the steam engine.. but they are stationary.. unfortunately if u imagined to be on one of them. The trip lasts about an hour.
Cute and humble crew , ride was a little short but well worth a Sunday visit !
Did the fall colour tour. Great way to spend a fall afternoon with some old Canadian railway history.
Well restored heritage railway and a good long ride with fair prices for the rides.
Awesome train tour. Did you know that this train began it's service in Chicago during the segregation period in the 1920s.
really love the historical steam engine ... I hope they kept this going tho.. i can already see it will be gone one day.. so go visit while it still there!
Train looks interesting and view seems nice. Customer service experience could not have been worse. Given the popularity of this, I guess the arrogant attitude is expected. If you enter your credit card information wrong, be aware you won’t be given a second chance regardless if you booked right on the first day reservation is opened. Never seen this rule in anywhere else. Won’t try to go again.
That was the most boring trip ever. Way below my expectations.
Great place for a family outing check out the train for Easter, Christmas or Hallo week it a lot of fun for people of all ages.
My first visit to this dealership to check out a car I have been looking for. The experience was quite pleasant and professional. Both Yasir and Matthew who helped us with the purchase made sure all our questions were addressed and walked us thru various options as well. Thanks for all the help.
Not worth the money or time. You are only riding through people's or businesses backyards in the city or tour.
Amazing people that volunteered with this railway. From ticket collector to conductor. Loved the history and story behind it all. Totally amazed that each car had it's own history. Totally worth the time and distance to get there. Too bad we went on a public holiday....so only 1 restaurant opened in nearby town. So not much choice for food after the ride.
Great time for all ages. The conductor today was a great entertainer while explaining the history of the railway and the area. Thanks!
Great train ride. Conductor was excellent. Didn’t have the steam engine running the day we went
We enjoyed our time immensely! My budding engineer (2 year old) had such a great time never having had the chance to see a train so closely. The volunteers there truly have a passion. Special shout out to Noah for making our son's day that much more special!!!
Great experience with kids.. A must for taking our kids in old trains well maintained ... Good work by volunteers keeping it working condition, clean and coordinating during the journey... It was great to see people with 25+ years of volunteering.. If you see anyone working there they are are mostly volunteers..
Amazing team... What's more interesting is that they are all Volunteers...
So fun. The family loved the Santa train was an amazing experience
Excellent place to take the family.
Very unique experience to ride on the historic train, people who working there are volunteer, be nice to them. They explained a lot history about the railway system. btw, the washroom space is extremely clean. Thanks again for the great experience.
Great staff and fun times
Very fun for the kids
If you are interested to take your kids to see heritage train it is worth it. Adults from India who have travelled in similar train won't enjoy
Nice nostalgic train ride to Beaton. Not long enough for me.
Very informative and lots of opportunities for photos
Great way to see fall colors
Its nice experience. View wasn't amazing but staff was funny and entertaining! Recomended!
Fantastic experience! Great volunteer staff!
It's an old school train. What's not to like? Train cars are very well maintained. Hot as Hades during the summer, but still well worth it.
Great place for an old fashioned train ride... Economically and extremely amazing staff
Nice location tucked away for a unique experience. Polite and professional staff. Definitely an old train but a unique experience to do the Christmas Train ride with the kiddies. Santa had glasses and a watch which I thought was funny but he was very nice and took pictures with everyone on the train...everyone :)
So many young children loved the Santa Claus train ride!
Great historic day trip! Ride the steam train and enjoy a tour of the way it use to be.
It would have been nice if we could hear the commentary, but there were too many little ones yelling at the top of their lungs.
really good place and small trip! My son and mom were so happy! And their washroom was so clean!
Ride the train, then right next door, stop for lunch or dinner. Outstanding service, with great menus. Open to ordering slight variations from menue. Ride our bikes from Palgrave, and this stop is the treat.
Very frendly staff. The ride is such a great experience.
The Santa train was lots of fun, kids loved it and the volunteers put on a great show.
Thoroughly enjoyed this place. Although it would be nice if they had a souvenir shop. I understand why they don't when everyone volunteers there time. It was a great place though highly recommend it.
Amazing trip. I will highly recommend this fabulous excursion.
It would be nice if some of the older cars were open to have a peek inside. Didn't see any steam engine though, only a modern diesel locomotive.
Very short tide but fun, and amazing narrator.
A very enjoyable ride and place. And volunteers are very kind!
Very unprofessional and uncooperative staff. We had booked for the fall scenic ride and because of some issue at their end our transaction got declined. Instead of helping they just refused to help us rebook and rudely said we are sold out. Like we booked immediately as soon as tickets opened for sale and they are telling us now transaction was declined and we cant help further. Very disappointed with the service. No one picks up the phone call in first place.
Nice time riding on the train. Plenty of information given out on the 3 passenger cars as well as the locomotive. Unfortunately the steam engine was out for repairs so we had the diesel engine. Great scenery. It is all booked up for the remainder of the season so anyone wanting to go look into next year and book early
This was a very enjoyable day driving here. It was a very short and slow train ride but so nice to be on a steam train. My wife loved it too. Choo choooooo
No pre-booking, but that means everyone is treated equally. Friendly, and the fall tour highlights the history of the railroad in Ontario.
I felt the experience could be more child friendly. My thoughts were... maybe have Easter music playing in the cars and more interaction with staff during the ride . My grandchildren were 9 and 7, ...even tho my grandson won a prize they were quite bored with the event .
Really great experience we traveled through time????????????????????. And the vision of the countryside and the wonderful farmer❤❤❤❤
This is the last section of track that heads north while 100% volunteers maintain this long history. During the ride the announcer on the speaker gives a much larger backstory and even a story about a Major misspelled a town name!
It was a beautiful day and it was fun riding the train with our kids, but I wish thw ride was a little longer.
Awesome service, amazing ride. Lots of fun. Great humor. Friendly staff.
We saw lots and lots of backyards and kids waving. Cool train, 1920’s throwback and good history lesson from the staff. It’s a short ride with little fall colors. For the price, great 60 min getaway but nothing special.
This was 2nd time and we loved it again. Kids should be doing these things so that they can see from where we have evolved. STEAM and Diesel engine rides were both great
A quaint train tour through the country.
This is a good excursion for mixed generation families. We went with 2 seniors, 3 adults, and 2 kids under 5. The volunteers and staff are amazing and incredibly helpful! While the train itself is cool and the history is interesting, the views themselves are underwhelming. Still a nice family outing for a very reasonable ticket price for a 1 hour ride. Recommend packing a cold linch to eat at the picnic tables after your ride to round out an afternoon excursion.
Very disappointed with the experience, which unfortunately did not involve getting on the train. I booked two tickets for my husband's birthday at 10:30am on September 15, the morning that ticket sales opened, for the Fall Colours trip on September 27, 2020 at 1:30pm. I received a confirmation e-mail a week later, so it wasn't a spontaneously-generated e-mail, someone had to confirm my order and tickets before sending the e-mail. When we arrived at the station half an hour before hand as requested, after our 1.5-hour trip to get there, we were informed that due to overbooking, we had been bumped to the 3pm ride which they "just created" per the ticket booth employee to accommodate the bumped passengers. That was total malarkey as there was already a 3pm trip on the schedule, so I didn't feel confident that given their inability to count spots for the trip I originally booked, that we would have a seat for the 3pm as tickets were previously sold out online for that trip too. We have dogs at home, and could not leave them for an extra hour and a half longer than we had already planned. I had to call during the week after to request a refund, instead of them trying to contact me to make things right. They could have e-mailed me the morning of the trip so at least we wouldn't have wasted the time and gas. We would have made other plans and NOT had a ruined birthday for my husband. So thanks for that. I will not be trying to go there again. Good luck to you if you do try.
Great visit! Daughter really enjoyed...only complaint is we both wish it lasted longer!! Thank you to all the VOLUNTEERS that run this piece of Canadian History!! ????
Great experience went with my girlfriend and 2yr old son he loved it. The trains are really cool and the staff is amazing the conductor actually comes out to say hello and take pictures. One tip is that you should be prepared for the weather it was really hot that day.
Good experience for a family outing, a short ride but very informative
Amazing trip and the conductor gives a great history lesson. Completely run by volunteers too
It was enjoyable for a family outing, though it did feel a little short. Staff were all very pleasant and the gentleman narrating the sights & history was charming. Parking can be found around the front gate but if it's busy it might get tricky.
This was a great experience! The staff/volunteers were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and the train was very fun. Lots of fall colours!
Not a steam train , it's a diesel still neat but not not a steam train .
Very cute experience. All volunteer driven was a nice touch.
Not spent too much time here... Washrooms were clean and tidy
We went for the Santa train ride and had a really great time. Staff was amazingly friendly, Santa spent a great amount of time with the kids and overall everyone enjoyed it. Priced really well and will definitely look at coming back next year. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars was the parking situation. We parked in the overflow parking and it wasn't cleaned out well at all, especially considering we just had a bit of a dumping of snow.
Nice little experience
You can go here and waste your money since these is no steam engine what they are advertise. It’s running on small Diesel engine and smell is everywhere in the compartments. Also it’s not scenic at all. Mostly it’s behind the houses and fields. No fall colours either.
Very rude staff. We didn’t even make it onto the train because we were 3 minutes late. Not to mention, the train was right in front of us for 5-10 minutes! The person there refused to serve us, even though I explained to him we booked this weeks in advance and drove all the way from Ajax. There’s no clear signs for parking, or where to enter the station. Horrible. Don’t waste your money and better off go somewhere else.
Fun historic train ride on period railcars and a lesson on how the railroad opened Canada from coast to coast , the locomotives are old steam trains and usually it's first generation diesel electric...
The train was so crowded, so little space of sitting area, the view was not that outstanding, consider driving all the way there, it was not with it, the only interesting part was the heritage train if you are into it.
Awesome place, delicious food, great service
if you want your kids to lose some hearing, watch the train as it rolls in. the train whistle and steam engine is way over 120 decibels. Thankfully i remembered to bring hearing protection for my kids. If you are older and already partially deaf, then don't worry about it. the annoying speaker inside the coach is also so loud you can't have a conversation with your family. They talk too much. i wish they would just keep quiet and let us enjoy the ride in peace. i would pay extra for that. They should put up a poster in the coach that describes the trains history.
Easy to find, low cost, and a great Easter family trip
Great place for whole family, you can hop on historic steam train, very interesting trip, specially now , great way to explore fall colors
History with fall colors combination. Price is fair.
Good tourist attraction with historical importance, showcasing the history behind the wheels, being maintained privately now.
Great adventure for young kids. Managed by a group of volunteers.
Very well run. Very family friendly. A nice place for anyone who wants to a nice slow paced journey. Nice place to take out of towners.
