Well it was over crowed , no one was social distancing! Had to wear a mask just to walk and ended up leaving ..You would never know a a pandemic was going in Port Dover ..
A vibrant and lively place to spend summer's days and evenings! Astonishing beautiful sunsets!
Nice water views Lots of seasonal stores
It's beautiful here! The view of Lake Erie is awesome...Quaint shops and a wide variety of restaurants in town...Enjoy!
Interesting pier with a memorial benches and a monument to drown fishermen in lake Erie
It's a nice place to walk. The view of the lake is outstanding!
This beach is small and usually pretty crowded but there's a good variety of restaurants around and everyone is friendly and the water is pretty clean. Go early to stake yourself out a good spot but people will end up being about two feet away from you. There's lots of nice shallow water for little kids!
Great spot to view the milky way in the summer if the sky is clear and the time is right.
No bonfires allowed around the beaches, oh well.
It was icy. The sun was shining bright. Nice for a crisp walk.
Friday the 13th. Need i say more.
Shallow water, very good for the kids! They also have nice local stores!
Haven't been in Port Dover for years. Interesting mix of old and new. Kept its charm. Will be back soon
Sandi and l drove from our home in Toronto to Port Dover to buy some fresh Pickeral (fish). It was an excuse to get out of the city and drive our new Mustang (racing red). Bought 14 pounds at 14 dollars a pound as opposed to 24 in Toronto.
Acceptable beach for a short drive from Mississauga and Oakville. The beach is not lengthy as I expected. There is a Watersport kiosk where they rent paddling boards for $25 an hour and $40 for 2 hours. The are two cruise rental places and many local restaurants in the area. The washrooms are not on the beach, they are around 200 meters far walking distance. They are so unclean and so small. Personally, I don’t recommend this beach to any body.
I often visit the pier on restless nights, it helps soothe my troubled mind. The waves and view are exquisite, and bring peace to a chaotic lifestyle. Nights are easier for parking and privacy, I often take dates here.
We have a love affair with Port Dover. The people, the places, the stories. The fries, the hot dogs. We love its relaxed pace and beach vibes.
Wonderful place
Lovely place! So happy to walk here once in a while. Very beautiful place!
Beautiful people built this beautiful town, beautiful beach and everything just beautiful. It gets packed here every beautiful sunny days. You can park in the residential area if theres no parking space available. It's a beautiful walk to see them beautiful stores in the uphill setting. awe *Lcbo is 10mins walk from the beach.
Great day on the water sailing on the beautiful ⛵
It was a lovely overcast day but it was a fantastic day either way. It's a lovely place to be going for a drive.
Just a nice chill place.
Loved the view even though it was overcast, the crashing waves are a very relaxing sound. I can't wait to go there again on a sunny day. The local food shops are amazing!
There is a lot of history in Port Dover. Aside from the beach which was closed this year... lot's of great shops and amazing restaurants. If you're ever out this way, it's worth a look. Take a walk and enjoy the sights, sounds of this wonderful place. Also can't forget Friday the 13th... Google it and you'll know what I mean
We only had plans for a quick stop to eat and then stayed for most of the day. Incredible sights, small town personality, friendly outgoing area residents. The views from the waters edge just wow factor. We took a hundred photos and enjoyed every minute there. Beautiful town.
Nice beach, mostly families with small kids. Seniors sit and watch local musicians playing their favorite tunes, Lots of benches on pier to sit, relax, watch ⛵ ⛵ ⛵ go by, watch sunset, very picturesque. Many restaurants and cafes nearby. Almost everyone eating ice cream. Lots of selfies
I'm a local and love the view & to watch the boats etc from here. It would be nice if the visitors would be kind enough to walk their empty Tim Horton's cups and food garbage from the restaurants back to the garbage cans at the beginning of the pier instead of putting it on the ground at the pier itself. Locals have to clean this up to keep it decent for the rest to visit. Thank you to those who do take the garbage & worm containers back instead of tossing them on the ground.
Always a nice place to visit, especially when the weather is nice.
Close to the beautiful beach & lighthouse. The beach is not very large, and portions can be a bit weedy, but the warm turquoise water & soft sand more than make up for it. Perfect place for a summer swim.
Had a lot of fun with my girlfriend. Beach was really clean and the weather couldn't have been any better. Also went on a Monday so the beach wasn't very busy at all, highly recommend for anyone looking for a quick Monday gettaway.
The pier itself is nothing fancy, its large cement pier with an old navigation light house on it. Nice during the warmer months.
Perfect tiny getaway with palm trees and some awesome restaurants. Locals are ok. It gets packed very easily.
Always clean, social distancing and masks being adhered to according to Provincial guidelines. Need to limit parking to one hour minimum at the pier, two hours for restaurants and street parking.
Nice view to watch the sunset and easy to find parking. Lots of food choices.
Nice place to check Lake Erie, the beach is good too and the water is not so bad. There is a free parking near it but that big and limited to 2 hours.
Great little town to visit with a nice beach
The beach was a little sea weedy but still a lot of fun. A great day for sure
Very Beautiful clean and calm.
The unplanned visit to this place turned out a good one as we were planning to visit Port Hope but we changed it at the last moment. Port Dover is about 1:45hrs of driving distance from mississauga and is a lovely place to spend a normal summer weekend with friends. We enjoyed our lunch at "The beach house" restaurant which is right in front of lake shore. A cool breeze in hot summer is just perfect to relax and enjoy the lunch. We also visited the pier and did the boardwalk till lighthouse and not so picturesque. It seems to be very old lighthouse. There are few gift shops around and you can take a walk and roam nearby to exore more. We did not face any issue in parking as roadside parking was free on weekend. We also visited smith falls while driving to port dover. Its not that great but it was listed as one of the tourist attraction. On the way back to home we also visited gurkey point which is about 20 mins by car from the port dover beach. If you want to get into the lake water this is one of the place as it was not very crowded too. There are also beautiful houses just opposite of the beach ⛱ that we appreciated while driving back.
Perfect tourist place with lots of options to eat and hang out on the beach
Amazing view. Just feels a little empty in April showers
Lake the Place Clean atmosphere was enjoyable long drive road was smooth nice out of Town drive
This place is AMAZING. I have been coming here for as many years as I can remember. My mother and her best friend grew up here. The beach is always amazing (not so much this year, so much see weed). Prices are high but that is to be expected.
Definitely my favorite beach, beautiful water! Food close by, would recommend
Great place to take a bike ride
Great place to sit, relax and watch the sunset or sunrise ????
Port Dover Pier is pretty iconic. Pprt Dover it's self is a fun little lake side village. Full of shops and food options. The beach is some what small, water shallow and mostly warm. Not cleanest but good enohgh quality to have a swim. Sand bars included.
Love it here. Great spot to find some real estate on the beach and lay in the sun on a hot day. Always crazy busy in the summer, a sea of humanity, if you will. Great patios here too, with some fabulous views... Lots of local restaurants. Must try the Dover foot long hot dog. Parking is usually plentiful, but can be nearly impossible to find something close on those busy weekends (Friday the 13th etc). Public washrooms available.
Love the small town with lots of history and charm! Lots of commercial merchants
Been here on February, it was a bit cold but perfectly still and sunshine.
Nice benches! Great views but parking is definitely an issue if you have a problem with walking and cant get there at 5 am....
Too many garbage cans and bees kills the old view but still worth a visit.
Such a nice little place to go and take in the lake and the feelings of a port. There's little to complain about here that isn't nature related, but come prepared to step in it.
Came for the bike day, had an awesome time! Great ppl fun place to visit. If your going for a rally go early or possibly never find parking.
Was very beautiful and calming experience with guided boat tours available for hire. The beach was right next to the pier and it was over all a wonderful place to stop and visit
Beautiful town, warm people a great way to spend some time by the water. If you go in the height of tourist season parking is a little difficult to find.
I really enjoy visiting the Port Dover Pier. It is a scenic view of Lake Erie where you can often find other pier-walkers and people who like to fish from the pier as well. Most people are incredibly friendly and will stop to chat or say a welcoming "hello". The pier is clean, easily accessible and family friendly. Steps away you will find amazing artisan shops, a swimmable beach area and there are a ton of places to grab a bite to eat whether you are looking for quick and easy or to have some drinks on a patio. Check it out!
Went during the week. Wasn't busy. Was raining a bit though so that might be why. Always love visiting this area.
Port Dover is a harbor town located on Lake Erie. It is a beach town, with one main street with a collection of restaurants, shops and things to do. The beach usually fills up quickly, the sand is nice albeit slightly rocky when approaching the water (much akin to most beaches on the Great Lakes). There are 4 main restaurants, Knechtels, The Arbor, Willies and Callahans. Callahans is a sit down with a beautiful patio deck overlooking the beach, there is usually a long wait during peak hours. Knechtels is a more casual sit down experience, with their patio being located on the beach itself. Decent food. The Arbor is a burger stand that sells hot dogs, sausages and their own specialty drink called a Glow that has to be tasted to realpy understand. Last is Willies and it is my favourite by far, the fries are fantastic and the burgers are amazing. The sausages and hotdogs are better than The Arbor and I stand by it. Apart from the food, there is an ice cream stand and shops that sell all matter of beach related products from clothing, beach toys and everything in between. A bit farther down the street from the beach is a decently mini golf spot, and up the hill from the beach is a great public park with lots of grass and shade. A great place to cool off from the sun-drenched sand. Their is a pier to walk down and can fish off of. The water is cleaner then Lake Ontario however it is definitely murkier then Lake Huron or Superior but clean enough to swim in and the waters are always full of people. No lifeguard that I could see, however I don't think they are legally required which I find odd. Plenty of rentable cottages. Now, the last thing I will say is do NOT come here on Friday the 13th if you don't like motorcycles. If you are a rider or a motorcycle enthusiast then please make your way here on a Friday the 13th. Just trust me.
Port Dover is a beautiful place. Great to visit. Too bad everything was closed due to lockdowns. Would like to go back when everything is open.
Absolutely beautiful at Port Dover. Very friendly community, beautiful scenery, nice little shops to shop and support, and a very convenient town.
A nice town to visit. Easy walking to see the shops and restaurants. Fun place to see the visiting motorcycles.
Small, over crowded dirty lake water at the time we were there
It's a pier. Not much to say, really. If you go in the evening or at night there are some nice views and it's an alright fishing spot.
My first visit to Port Dover and fell in love with this city. Had lunch at Fisherman's catch restaurant and Bar, we had Perch and Pickerel it was delicious did not have to take the batter off, our Server was fabulous, can't wait to revisit.
Lovely place..... Was real busy day.
I love the pier at Dover, it's small but very fun. Beach fills up pretty quickly no matter what day you go, but it tends to clear out a little by about 5-6pm which is still decent if you go in the dead of summer cause the sun is still out then. No life gaurds on the beach so keep track of your little ones! I always like bringing games to play but it is extremely crowded. Last time I brought Bocce Ball and had to wait for people to leave first. The parking lot fills quickly but there's municipal parking not far from the beach. There's a resteraunt literally on the beach that serves amazing food and I think I counted 5 ice cream shops from the car to the sand. Lots of little beach shops as well as floaty rentals. Bring lots of sunscreen and your own shade because there is very little coverage and you WILL bake!
I love to sit down here in my car just to watch the water and during the day walking on the pier can be very relaxing especially when you can sit on the bench and watch the sun set or the sun rise. Also a good fishing spot.
This is a great place , beach is nice but small theres lots of shops to brows. Home of the thunder run if you like that sort of thing.
Beautiful town, nice beach, Beautiful waterfront walkway. Everyone is so friendly.
Great spot to view Port Dover Beach (whats left of it,) Lake Erie. Catch fish off the pier! And Taking stride down, checking all the local home good shops. Don't miss the 'Beach fries' yummy.
Even on cloudy rainy days ...I can still find beauty at Port Dover.
Always a good place to be. Truly Canadian heritage.
Beautiful, peaceful and magical
Great spot for a morning walk or to fish. Friendly people and a great view
Just a short drive away!
Really nice , it's off season and restaurants are still open, lots of motorcycles - that's how I got there. Definitely worth a trip.
Good evening. ???? The experience was good. There was more space on the beach then I expected. Everyone respected physical distance rules. Obviously family's are allowed to hang out together. ???? My daughter and I enjoyed the few hrs of Sun & Beach ⛱ ???? My daughter did do some browsing threw some of the shops that were open. From all the yrs I have gone , I'd say right now there's roughly, not fact , but from wht I see 75% of the shops are open. Sometimes u need to wait for people to come out , so that u can go in. No lines really. Depends on size of shop. All the restaurants were open. Snack bar's by the beach are open. Masks & physical distance required. Less crowded, Obviously it has to do with Covid-19. Some people are still not out & about. Everyone today was nice & polite. Giving way for passing & crossing the street. Very nice atmosphere.. ???? Over all my daughter & I enjoy our day at the beach. ???? 5⭐ day. Now that being said , U must realize that masks are required when u enter the shops or restaurants, The owners are not trying to harass there customers , they are simply following Government regulations, so there store's or restaurants aren't closed down. Most business owners have already lost so much & are just trying to keep it together for themselves and there employees. They need to survive & last another 40yrs , other wise one day it will be just sand & water. I have been going to Dover for atleast 40 years. Even Friday the 13th I have riden my bike. ???? I'm no fan of wearing a mask & from time to time I believe that some of all this is BS , but for the sake of the owners & the employees they have working for them, I will wear a mask , so that maybe someday I can take my Grand kids there to , or my daughter can take her kids as I toke her when she was a child. No one is a loser for wearing a mask. Because wearing that mask helps keep the business open & life being some wht normal. We can't stay inside forever. So wear a mask , keep ur distance, & try living life again. Nobody's wants another shutdown. Respect the business & they stay open. Today's experience was good. As they have always been at Dover. Memories from over 40 years. All good. ????
It's a great place to relax and wander in and out of the unique little shops. I love it there.
You have to see this place is lovely in summer ! Is one of favourite places for son I am ❤️
Amazing place to let go and feel the atmosphere. Swiming and lots of shops down the streets to grab a nice bite. Good idea for a day trip
Very nice place to visit! Had so much fun here. Beautiful scenery and lots of little stores. Obviously the beach was closed based on my pics but still fantastic and fun. I love it here. First time. Hopefully not my last!
Good place, well built, well managed and so beautiful. Take some cruise, they are all very worth.
Awesome view of moon at night.
Pier offers beautiful views of Lake Erie and the waterway makes for good boat watching. Classic summer beach restaurants along the strip - fish and chips, ice cream shops, etc. Beach isn't the best and Erie isn't the cleanest of lakes, but it gets the job done.
So much fun walking around in the hot sun! #labourdayweekend
It was a warm and windy day in April when we visited the Port Dover Pier. Fresh air and sunshine. Port Dover was quiet but open and we got burgers at Willies.
Oh Port Dover. You're so beautiful but need a shot in the arm. More housing development is taking away the tiny town uniqueness.
Nice place to visit on your bike
Quit and small little tourists Town. Easy access to the beach and pier. Dozens of great little affordable restaurants
Very beautiful lake side view. Green water color of lake Erie. Visited here twice now and both during winters. The lake was frozen upto few meters from the beach, with big chunks of ice slabs all over the beach. You have 2hr parking spaces on the pier and there are plenty of parking around. Good restaurants and shops around.
Great little town on Lake Erie
The water levels were extremely high, there was no beach left!
I love it here. Great place to go for a walk or just sit and relax. The scenery and environment is always awesome. Great for getting some pictures as well. Totally recommend going if you have not been.
Nice beach on lake erie, many beach shops and restaurants in walking distance.
A beautiful pier. Nice view, with a statue and benches in memory of the fishermen who have passed. The beach can be very busy on a hot day but the pier was rather quiet when we went while the beach was packed. Says no swimming but saw people doing so as we were leaving. Definitely stop by if you're in town.
If you like the beach, so many beer guts, just go to eat at a restaurant if you need a restroom. The public ones are definitely public.
Great little town with a nice clean beach ????
Weather was great and some food places are opening up. Just lacking public washrooms
May not have clear water, but has some shops to visit, a beach to get a tan if you so choose, it has a lighthouse (not sure if it works) and stores and restaurants by it if you get hungry. (Also has a place that sells bubble tea near it)
Beautiful Lake, beautiful town.
I never get tired of this stunning view... It's a must visit type of place... The people are friendly.. Beach..stunning
Very nice place to visit. The lighthouse was made into an overall shop. It's only opened seasonally. I visited in the winter. The St Lawrence River was completely frozen over. Still beautiful.
Love this place. It's a pretty place. A lovely place to spend the day on the beach, shop, have a bite to eat at one of the many little restaurants or go for a walk around the town.
Our family's favorite spot for beach time when we don't want to drive too far. This is cute little town, love the vibe here. Someone told me last time this is a privately owned beach so it's really upto the owners to choose if they want to allow the public access during Pandemic. I recommend checking the timings and beach access availability before planning the trip.
A BEAUTIFUL PLACE TO BE WORTH THR TRIP.
Stunning November day!!!
Beautiful place both Summer and Winter
Great place to go for walks and just enjoy the roaring of the water and watch the boats go by
A beautiful place to spend some time. Lots to see and do.
Love the beach view the small locally owned shops and am a sucker for an arbor dog in the summer however they're attempting to build a new condo building near the beach and due to flooding I can't imagine how beach front owners keep their properties from flooding the water here seems way too polluted (the water ) to want to swim in or see the bottom
This is a nice little town with a beach. There are vendors that does river boat cruise or sailing. A good close getway.
Dover was stupid busy! Tons of cops, beautiful day!
Great place to go with kids lots of restaurants to go to. This year the beach has been shortened do to all the rain we have had so it does make the beach more congested.
Beautiful place to walk on the sand and get some relaxing time. Nice bars and restaurants close to the water with nice food.
Loved going here. The beach is pretty small, but it was really enjoyable. There's lots to do like visit shops and get some food, if you don't go in the water.
Nice spot, ice cream close by and boat tours
Very friendly peaceful place
I love it at night .. no ppl amazingly peaceful ???????????????? the day time .. the day time is great to but to many stupid ppl there lol
City is getting worst every day. No public washroom. Streets are dirty. It is really sad to see. The beach area is terrible. Don't bother going. Come to Niagara on the Lake instead!!!
It was ok. I expected a nicer beach. I don't know what the sludge at the waters edge was. Some fun, beachy, geegaw stores. Lots of little restaurants. The town is nice. The people seemed nice, too. Next time I'm looking for a different beach.
I love this place. The whole town is great. There is great food and lovely shops to look around in. The pier is a wonderful place to walk out on and look out at the lake. It is full of benches to sit on to watch the sun set or sun rise and the boats too. I love to drive down to park and watch the storms. You can get a really good show that way. When you are eating outdoors anywhere here you need to watch out for the birds... they love your food lol..... but the beach is always nice and clean and a nice place to swim too. Anyways it is a great place for people of all ages.... oh I almost forgot the ice cream is awesome from any place in town.
The beach was closed. But it was a very cute place with restaurants and ice cream shops. Lots of benches to sit and watch the boats in and out of the marina. And free parking for two hours. Loved the little lighthouse.
Cozy little town with pier displaying memory benches. Nice view of the harbor and incoming boats.
Nice little town, a few restaurants, a gift shop or two. Beach looked nice.
Water is soo clean, sand is so soft. Lots of food/ice cream around. Small little town but there is paid parking directly beside the beach. Heads up- not pet friendly and no BBQs/Fires.
Nice area. Quite windy and the water was choppy that day but I enjoyed it. Went into a couple of stores. Protocals in place. Very interesting stores. Watched lots of ducks eating in the water by the shore.
A classic beach spot. The dead fish everywhere and murkey brown water really brings back childhood summer memories. Arbor dogs are always delicious, fries are always crispy, sun is always hot. Enjoy at own risk.
It was a great morning the weather was nice The water was calm Good morning to sit and look at This sirona's
Great relaxing view and feel. Rustic vibe and amazing food places. Perfect for a days' walk. Will certainly come visit again next Summer.
Love port dover. Best local beach .Willie's takeout is good.
My husband and I love Port Dover. Really wanted to move here. However we now come on weekends for walks. We find the the people are very friendly and we never get bored of the beauty that surrounds us
Good place to relax. Take a seat on the bench and watch boats go in and out. Enjoy the view from the pier.
The beach was fun . It's not white sand but it still works.
It was a beautiful day. Was able to listen to some fish stories told by people fishing off the pier. Definitely will visit again!
Loved the beach. You can pay for all day parking 20 dollars right on the beach...not bad if you do a day trip. It did the job...gave us a beach in Ontario. Only went for the beach, brought my own food in a cooler.
Always a pleasure to spend a day in Port Dover.
Went for my birthday with my dog as I do every year in honor of my sister who shared the same birthday but 4 years older. After she passed away life was not the same but found coming here helped. Had the beach to ourself and had the best fish dinner for around ten dollars. Nice to go as it is less then one hour away and very much worth it.
Absolutely amazing city to visit. And they beach is nice here as well.
Great place very busy the water is rough at times it's quite shallow even if you walk out a ways don't be surprised to see dead fish on the beach and some of the areas the water smells but the beach area towards the middle or the right is pretty good try the Arbor for a great burger or hotdog. Wait 30 minutes before swimming
Friday the 13th rally, 1st visit. Really nice little town and everyone in good spirits.
Great atmosphere , amazing view from the light house
The pier is clean enough but the beach and water are both absolutely filthy. I want to puke when I see people in that stagnant disease filled lake water. Beach is littered with dead fish and dead birds and stinks to hell.
Port dover pier.is a great place to go during covid.it is safe.keep your butt's in the car.and good for me tal health.
Very nice to chill and relax. Tons of seagulls too
Used to love it here, so I keep giving it another chance, but it's just sort of a disappointment now. Stores are small, expensive, and mostly geared for teens or young twenties crowd. Food is just ok, very crowded and over priced for a pretty basic menu. Beach is ok but we don't swim there, water seems dirty and there are usually a number of dead fish in the water or on the beach. Oh, and the pier had human feces on them last time we were there...that was a nice touch. Not really in the mood for a hot dog after that. Hard to enjoy the view at all when you are swatting flies and inhaling whiffs of poo.
Always one of my first choices for a day out. Amazing people live there, real small town charm. Amazing restaurants and small locally owned shops that are reasonably priced. I love supporting Canadian owned business owners! Walk down Main Street and enjoy the view of Lake Erie from several places. Busy popular place loved by many. Parking can be difficult on busy days but who needs to be right at the front of the line.... Enjoy the walk from a few blocks away and peruse the countless beautiful homes this town has on your way to the main street.
Had lunch at the pier. Took our Arbor footlongs, fries and glows down there and enjoyed the view!????♀️????????????????☀️????
