REVIEWS OF Southwold Earthworks National Historic Site IN Saint Thomas

Very interesting place. Came here for a geocache but stayed to walk around. Very quiet and fenced in so the puppy loved it.

Peaceful place. Always a nice walk in to visit the Ancestors. There is an ancient tree (possibly 400 yrs) on the outer ring, near the entrance. Be aware low areas may be quite wet after a rain. #PyrateApproved

There's not much to see here, but it's a beautiful park, and worth a quick stop. One of the rare remains of pre-European human settlement left. Has a nice vibe.

Quiet place for a walk

Steve Shearer

Love taking my son and my dog there for a walk a teach my boy bout yhe history of the neutrals !

Disappointed! The grass was quite long and when walking down path to get to actual site our feet was covered in orange, not sure what that was all about. There were 2 port-a-johns at very back that were disgusting. I think we would have enjoyed visit much more if grounds had been better maintained. Sad for a National Historic Site. There are also no signs on main road to even let you know there was a site down the sideroad.

Clean and mowed grassy area with educational plaques explaining the landscape and the history of the site. Not overly big but still neat to see the leftover landscape of what once was, peacefully tucked away in amongst the trees.

Jeff Paliwoda

This area is great for mushroom hunting in the trees behind the earthworks, and good for a picnic with the 3 separate picnic tables and one pair of potta potties. There are several garbage cans provided as well. The earthworks is bordered on one side by a corn field and is picturesque year round. Good for dog walks, too.

Interesting history. It was getting dark.. will have to come back and see the whole site another time.

Susan Newman

Its not what people think it is. Its a sacred site but its built on a natural crater. The hill is naturally formed.

An interesting site, a little off the beaten path. I think we must have been there at the wrong time or something because I have seen photos and read other reviews that make it seem like it's well-kept and mowed regularly, but our impression was the opposite. The grass was quite long when we were there and it seemed rather unkept, which I think made the interesting Earthworks harder to see and photograph. We encountered a snake and lots of different bugs in the long grass, which we were not well prepared for as we were expecting more of a walk on a mown area than a hike through tall grasses. I would very much like to go back again, hopefully when it has been mown, but we will definitely go more prepared for wilder conditions next time (ie, long pants and closed shoes), just in case.

A quiet interesting place. Abandoned in the 1650s, what little remains is incredible to see.

Nathan Dawthorne

Quiet and picturesque

Beautiful and quiet. A nice place to take the dogs for a picnic. The plaques are beautiful. There isnt much to see but I like to think that's the point.
