Hard but a great walk to the falls, beautiful!
Loved the natural woods whilst the trek... Wonderful Treat to get beneath the falls.
Nice trail but very dangerous. Be careful after rains for slippery areas near the edge of a steep dropoff. Very dangerous and if you fall into the gorge and need rescue it will cost you $2000 for fireman's services.
I took my boyfriend on our first date here! Great views and lots of privacy, if you look for it. The trails are rather difficult but the hike is ???? worth the view. There is a large rock across the water that makes for a great spot to have a picnic in the shade. The volunteers are all great people and very nice. If you're looking for something outdoorsy to do this summer, you're looking at the right place. It's also super easy to find following Google maps as it's right off of a main road.
Beautiful place!
Magical Vistas specially if one uses the river trail all the way up, you will encounter river banks, fallen trees, mossy slippery places, you will have to hike real hard but the rewards are huge! Specially if you make it all the way to the main attraction! Definitely not for kids and lots of picture opportunities.
Perfect place to hike and see a gorgeous waterfalls. Loved it .
A perfect getaway for a weekend. Though the trail is nearly rugged and steep so it recommended to have good quality pair of shoe and carry some beachwear for a splash in a clear water. Place is great but has limited parking facility. Great for kids and adults both
Very beautiful. I just wish there was more to do...
A bit disappointed because we drove from Fort Erie to see this amazing place, but there was no water on Decew Falld, I guess spring and summer are the best times to visit.
Beautiful, any time of the year. If you're into hiking, mountain biking, photography or just looking for an adventure, this is a great place to explore. Just be careful and stay safe, it is easy to get to close too the edge.
I love it
Awesome historic place
Very calming
Beautiful trail and waterfalls
If you want to go for a hike Decew Falls is the place to go, so beautiful.
I quite enjoyed the view at Decew Falls but I went on a day when there were no activities happening. I will make a return visit soon. It's a very lovely spot and the information placed around the walking area was very informative and helpful.
It is nice place for adventure
TLDR: Fantastic Trails for beginners and families, large variety of nature and wildlife to be seen, getting down next to the falls should only be attempted by experts and with safe hiking conditions. One of the many entrances to trails that connect all across South Eastern Ontario. The local trails immediately around Decew Falls are great hiking paths (barring heavy rain turning the paths to mud as the paths get very slippery rather quickly you can fall a long way in many parts of the official paths) that I've had the pleasure of going through in every season and are always a delight to enjoy the local nature. Sightings can be confirmed for all manner of Birds of Prey, Deer, and Coyotes fairly regularly. If you can safely make the trek downwards to the falls themselves it is a sight to see, however I feel I need to stress many people unfamiliar with climbing techniques have fallen and injured themselves on the way down to or up from the falls. Only attempt to go to the falls if you are very confident in your hiking abilities and the ground is dry and you have an idea how you safely get down. Otherwise the Decew Falls trails are beginner friendly if you stick to the mostly well maintained paths and offer a variety of sights and trails to be enjoyed at any time of year.
Lovely place for a hike or swim under the water fall!
Fun place to go for a hike also a bit of history too
Was having trouble with Google maps this day and it took me to the wrong location. Luckily I figured it out and made my way to see the sights. Nobody was around to give tips or offer advise about the area so I went armed only with the reviews posted on here about how it looked and what to look for. The mills and small falls were nice, then you walk along to the back area an you can glimpse the falls through the trees. You can also walk around by following the trail for about 2km down to the falls. Didn't have enough time to get down there, but I will be back to see that view when I bring my family.
Nice spot to walk around with hiking trails as well. The grist mill and period Morningstar home are great places to visit when opened. Staff at the house were very kind and knowledgeable!
Neat spot to take the family when you're out for a drive on a nice afternoon. The old mill from 1872 is really neat to see, and even has scheduled free tours. There's a walking or hiking path around the ravine and just beautiful sights and settings all around the area to take in. Peaceful and enjoyable, and lots of photo opportunities.
A hiker's paradise.
Beautiful falls HOWEVER, be prepared to do about 1 hr 15 mins hike by the riverside over and under logs and through mud. This is probably one of the most difficult hikes I’ve ever been on. Wear hiking shoes/boots and be prepared to get a little wet. It’s a little bit of a rough walk but if your dressed for it it’s a nice challenge ! There’s a short way to the falls that requires the use of a rope to help you traverse down the side of a steep rock face
Beautiful place in the winter. Cant wait to hike in summer and fall!
Nice place to get into Outdoors good hiking trail you can go down to the falls very nice scenery screen real clear a hiking trail for all ages very convenient location near to the highway 406 highly recommended
Love the falls
nice spot but a bit dangerous for kids and old folks to get into the good parts
Great place to hike. Many trails and scenic waterfall. Old grist mill is interesting to see. Don't fall into the gorge or it will involve a high angle rescue.
Very nice for trips and just for relax and walk ...
Very nice place to hike in the summer. Also you can go swimming there and go behind the falls. Don't venture there lightly there is some climbing involved. Also bring water shoes!
I wished I could go up close and personal with the falls. But otherwise was nice.
Beautiful place, the small, steep and slippery trail leading down to and even right behind the falls, going around into a cave is worth all the efforts. Bring a pair of flip flops as the rocks are slippery and brutally pointed under water. A must visit place where going early in the morning is reccommended.
Lovely place to just enjoy nature
Beautiful historic old Mill and waterfall. Welcoming knowledgeable volunteer on site. Great hiking and biking trails.
A small falls. Aside from the scenery and the trail this place has a great history behind it. It was great to get to know the fun facts behind the mill a century ago.
Falls are quite impressive from below. It's a bit of a challenge to get there but it's worth it.
Great fall. Spectacular view.
Parking closed and fenced (June 11, 2021). Could not find a place to park anywhere nearby. Will visit later.
Awesome falls ; No proper trail though. You need to be bit adventurous to reach there
Actually a pretty substantial hike down to the falls, heads up on that! The falls themselves are unfortunately overcrowded so it certainly takes away from the magic. If 50% of you would not go, that would be great.
A small get away area ideal for summer with camping options.
Such a beautiful idyllic setting reminding us of the past while helping make sense of the present.
What a great place to come and check out.. the falls look awesome and with all the ice around just adds.... I will be back in the summer yo explore it more and longer. .
Great place to visit and walk the trail
Can't believe how close this place is, and completely free! Must see place if you live anywhere nearby. The trail can be quite steep if you decide to go down to the waterfall, but very worthwhile if you're feeling adventurous.
The hike was amazing. The views were nice along the entire trail. Don't be fooled by the first falls that you see. If you continue hiking, you will see the second falls which is beautiful.
Just really loved this hidden treasure! We typed in Waterfalls near us and it took us to Decew Falls! Had no idea this 1800's grist mill would still be working!(with alot of help from volunteers over the years!) A great spot to enjoy, take a hike along the Bruce Trail that runs along side of the falls. So enjoyable! Happy travels!
Great place to visit informative tour guide.
Tough hike, but the waterfalls were definitely worth it!
Beautiful view and a great place to hike. The waterfalls are a little hard to climb up but there are easier trails for families too. There's a lagoon area to swim in with a rope swing too. Also, at the beginning before the trail, there are little educational stops for kids to learn more about blacksmithing and making oats and wheats, as well as a historical house tour. Fun place for families
Good place to go for a hike
Casual hike on path overlooking the falls. Getting down there are two options: one is climbing down the Clift or second follow the path further to a smaller and easier climb down the Clift to get to the path leading to the bottom of DeCew falls. Note, you can see a total of three waterfalls within same area. Two by the Morning Star Mill and the third just a little further down the path. Don't know exact distance apart but it's close. The path along the creek is rugged and quite a simple vista fews hours before golden hour. Overall, a quiet area and can spend an hour to few hours. A plus there is a tire swing much further down the path where you can swing over a tiny body of water.
Come hiking here all the time with friends and family. It's not an easy hike if you wanna go all the way down to the waterfall but it's not too hard if you know how to keep your footing.
It's an incredibly beautiful place, especially in Autumn. I went into the Turbine Mill for the first time today and it had incredible views of the top of the falls. I love the history of the place. The trails are easy and the woods are so beautiful I could've stayed longer even after being there 2 hours. It's a great place to find peace and quiet in nature.
Awesome place. The falls are a bit of a hike but the falls are amazing. When you start tge trail its actually a combination of 3 waterfalls. All 3 are great and worth the trail.
I was here with my young son three weeks ago. The staff were wonderful with him. He got a personal tour of the mill and the woman working there was very patient with him. It was quite a highlight for him. The house is rather interesting as well. Regarding the trails, one does need to be vigilant as it is quite a drop. Would only take kids on here if you can carry them. I'll plan on returning by myself to check out the trails.
Exciting place you shouldn't miss
As always a great place to spend the day with family
The morninstar mill and the small village is located in a very cozy setting by the falls. The hike to the falls is very good. There are two trails leading to the falls. Good hiking shoes are recommended, especially if you want to go down to the falls. Always pack some snacks and water, whenever you want to hike and visit the falls. We started the hike from the far side of the falls, by the first nations peace monument. We used the bruce trail along side the water reservoir for ontario power generation. The trail is bikeable too but you have to be careful because the trail can get a bit middy, slippery, and rough.
Lovely falls and scenery and the information plaques throughout the morningstar mill are very interesting and informative. Worth the trip and it's a nice hike along the edge of the ravine there as well.
Amazing place and very clean
Love it here! Beautiful
I love this place. The waterfall is pretty awesome, there are lots of trails to go on once you get further into the woods. The main trail does run along a very high cliff so I would caution parents of little ones.
Such an amazing and relaxing place. So glad they’ve preserved this small piece of history.
Beautiful waterfall. A little bit difficult to get down to it
Got a tour about the Mill run by knowledgable, friendly volunteers who have restored the mill over the years.
Interesting area. Found area to climb down to stream. Well worth it!
Great hiking area, with a natural beauty. Parking can be tight, but worth the walk through a great trail, and that waterfall is amazing.
Lovely water falls and charming Victorian house. Would have liked to have a tour of the place but there wasn't any information about tours available.
Great hike and lots of amazing scenery along with a few nice waterfalls. People need to learn to pick up their trash and broken glass.
Amazing trails and scenery. Not to difficult.
Great hiking
It's a good destination for weekends
Nice view. Possible to hike the bottom of the falls. The rocks are pretty sharp though.
Neat little historic area. Good place for a walk.
Great place for a hike
Good trails. Very nice and interesting.
Nice Place for tracking and hiking
Amazing place . Must visit ????????
Haven't been yet but going soon
Stumbled upon this diamond while doing some local exploration visiting family in the Thorold area. This gorgeous place is a stones throw from Brock University. Highly recommend checking it out. They typically have free tours of the mill and home on the property. They also make flour in the mill monthly. It would be very cool to see it in production.

In my opinion, this is one of the best places in Ontario to experience the autumn colors!
Beautiful place.. went for hiking for the first time. Couldn’t complete it though. Was short on time(& breathe)???? ..
Amazing experience
Always a lovely place to go for a walk with our dogs. Many different trails to utilize of varying difficulties from easy to difficult and everything in between.
I was the man that fell 30 feet, don't go off the trail
Love hiking here and the people are always friendly.
Honestly this was one of the most challenging and exciting hikes I’ve ever been on in Ontario. While you can view the falls from the main trail, there is a steep hike down (not for beginners) that can take you to the riverside. Make sure to bring proper footwear and to be careful. I was only able to make it to the lower falls, but it was well worth it!
Nothing spectacular, it looks like an abandoned place that was once lively and beautiful. Very nice road though!
Beautiful place for a walk and for some amazing photography! Come and enjoy this place all year around
Very informative boards and beautiful site.
Easy access to see the sights and if you are lucky, check out the historic buildings.
Nice little hike along the river gorge. Also big open field perfect for a dog run.
Awesome place to hangout. Really enjoyed the place....
Amazing place!
Great hike
Amazing!
Tucked away in a cozy corner. You can actually walk down to the bottom of the falls. About a 40-50 minute hike one way. Make sure to carry an extra pair of clothes though if you want to take a bath at the bottom. Sports shoes are must for the hike as it can get slippery. Hike is definitely worth it.
Hiking at it's best.
Really fun trail! Always love it here, the waterfalls are very fun. Make sure to pick your garbage up though, don't litter!
Pretty trail but seems to just end. Someone has put up blockages and no trespass signs.
Beautiful place to walk around and take photos.
Awesome hiking grounds just outside of the beaver damns and Gibson lake area beautiful scenery and if your ambitious enough a kewl swim at the end. Not for the novice hiker the root steps at the end are extremely dangerous but slow and steady and no children there is a small pond at the end. On the regular trail there is of course a deep gorge that is to the left so be careful keep dogs on leads because they're are some tricky spots
Beautiful view of the falls, very green walking trail
Great place to visit with awesome scenery.
Run by amazing volunteers, we took a free tour of the Grist Mill and were able to purchase stone ground flour made on site!! Every 3rd Saturday they do live demonstrations at 1100. The trails are fabulous and breath taking! Great example of the value of hard working committed volunteers! Can't wait to return.
Best escape from the city to nature.
Nice nature hike, do not litter. Rocks in water can be slippery have to be really careful, climbing etc. At your own risk. Cool place.
Take the long way around, have sturdy footwear, and be prepared for very slippery slopes if it rains. ????☀️????
Beautiful falls. If you walk along the trail, you can reach a small pond.
Falls is really good. You will love it if you're into tracking. Would highly recommend tracking shoes.
It's a great spot in summers for trekking
Great Hike! The trail can be challenging for all ages especially on rainy days. But, if you get to the fall, it is indeed stunning ????. You can actually get under the waterfall. Great place to visit! Just be cautious ⚠️ on each step.
Beautiful place for a hike.
I helped restore the grist mill over 15 years ago and the inside was not touch or wrecked so it had be dug out because the city wanting to more safer and the volunteers worked very well with Gary konkle heading the very hard a d very long days and just a little dire when digging out the turbine pit my role was photography and help dig out and restore the grist mill to full working
Very picturesque and historical site. The falls can be viewed from a somewhat obstructed view if you walk past the mill and along the rim of the gorge. We were there on a day when the virus had forced the closure of all the buildings. Will have to return when things return to normal.
Extremely busy and difficult to park, depending on what time of day and what day of the week you go. Beautiful spot though! Volunteers on site are very informative and pleasant! Don't fall while you are in the ravine.
Follow the trail for a safe way down. There seems to be a rope which will help you get up and down but be extremely careful as if you slip.....☠️ This place makes you feel like your somewhere else instead of Ontario. Place is kept clean with the help of no litter bugs. Worth the hike! Total hour you will spend for a good hike and pictures 1-2.5 hours
Tranquil and Serene
Place is good .. requires lot of energy for hiking.. steep paths.. fully covered with rocks and trees.. not suggestible with infants
Great place for a hike, beautiful scenery.
Very beautiful place to escape with family/friends or loved ones. You can experience a picturesque view of the Decew Falls that are covered by stunning forest. Definitely a place to see and take lots of photos????
I have done this hike several times. Lots of fun, in and out in less than 2 hrs, and some refreshing waters after about halfway point. There were some younger kids (around 6 yo), but they were quite brave and outdoorsy. Need to climb over/under several fallen trees and can be a bit challenging for very young or elderly.
Great spot to take in some history and nature. There are trails on site as well which made for a great hike through the woods. Parking lot does fill up quick.
An interesting location with several photo opportunities and waterfall. Access the Bruce Trail. Needs a staircase installed to descend. Falls are hard to photograph.
Beautiful waterfall and a nice place to hike.
The falls are amazing to see. The area is full of heritage, but reaching the falls can be a bit challenging so bring hiking gear!
Loved it Was a nice hike with my daughter n our friend
Lovely hike through the forest. In a couple weeks the leaves will be so gorgeous!!
Absolutely beautiful place. Stay on the trails and don't litter.
Beautiful waterfalls for more check out Waterfalls of the Niagara escarpment on Facebook.
The hiking towards the falls is amazing, it feels like going through a forest road. The route to go down the falls is a challenging, it's very confusing for a person going there for the first time. Tip: - 1) Take a backpack with no handbags. 2) Follow the mud road till it takes you down at a point you'll see a step down path go down through it and you'll see the stream. Then follow the stream in opposite direction of the flow. 3) Take extra clothes because the falls are amazing and you'll want to get under it ????
Beautiful falls! Really great hike.
Beautiful journey to the falls. No parking available by falls due to clowns messing it up for everyone. Look for the Bruce trail and you can access the pathway towards the falls. Found garbage all over the place. Sad to see. Still was a nice hike. Got some beautiful photos.
A hidden tourist attraction. If you like hiking, rock-climbing and taking pictures - this place is for you
Place is amazing but bro trust me its so risky to go there there is no proper way to go down to the fall or may be we don't know . Place is full of snakes . But once you reach there you are in heaven ????
Tours of the historical buildings, and ground flour to bring home.
Great hike and very friendly people in the mill. The hike is very difficult though to the falls so beware of that. Lots of crawling and mud.
Excellent museum of mill from 1800's created by devoted community volunteers. They still mill flour there periodically.
If you have the chance to go inside any of the buildings when you visit, I highly recommend it! We saw some really interesting stuff inside the mill building and there is lots to learn about. Tons of beautiful views, and that's without making it too far down the path. Definitely worth a visit.
Absolutely a little gem in St Catharines
It's a very good spot to take your girlfriend just make sure she's on wearing white vans It's also good spot to go swimming
Absolutely breathtaking, the water was running alot the sounds of roaring falls and beautiful Niagara landscape.
B-E-A-UTIFUL. Great place to hike. Took my girlfriend and her dog there, had a blast, took many photos. Walked right down to the falls it was amazing
Beautiful falls, and nice trails for hiking, including the Bruce Trail. The Laura Second trail is great for mountain biking.
Great place for a hike!
Love it
Good place for hike not good for young kids
An interesting site to explore. During the fall the water levels are low so the waterfall is not always flowing. There is a trail that follows the top edge of the canyon, it provides a peaceful walk as you listen to the sounds of the river below.
Clean and beautiful. Great hiking spot. I recommend visiting.
Tough trail in but amazing view!
Wasted an hour to drive out here only to find this was fenced off. Most likely by misinformed individuals paranoid about Covid.
Great place, difficult home but worth it
Falls are closed as of now it's better not to park our vehicle and walk all the way near to the falls.
It was quite nice, on weekends in the summer the buildings are open and free for you to explore. Nice hiking/mtn biking trail overlooking the water fall. There are some picnic tables around so you can have a picnic?
Nice spot to stop at for a visit
Absolutely loved being here.
Falls were beautiful . Couldn't find a way to get close or a view that wasn't through a fence. Free parking. Cute area with old mill.
This spot is well worth the visit, together with Morning Star Mill
Frozen waterfalls in the winter
Do visit the mill to get to know an interesting tale..happy to know about the hydropower in use.
Beautiful trail, very calm and unaltered, however the hike down to the bottom of the falls is not trailed, hence might be difficult for seniors to get down there. Otherwise medium difficulty trail. Upper trails are very nice and easy. Got couple of picnic tables round there. Family place. Great place. Recommended.
Crazy hike! Well worth the drive and if you ask me there is no easy trail to the waterfall - Fun!!
Don't wear birks and bring water
BEST HIKE IN THE AREA, totally a challenge for those who don't hike this isn't for people on a family trip, the rope swing is unreaaaaalll and then the falls are so gorgeous but the hike up will push you to.your edge, make sure you are physically capable. You can totally make a day of this it's worth the visit 100%
Place for thrill seekers...not the easiest way to get to the falls since going down is steep. The water hole is amazing. Carry shoes that you can soak in water in summer months.
Great experience with the kids! Personal tour was provided with a guide. Very informative
A wonderful place to take a nature walk
What a nice place to visit! Today, December 31st, was a balmy day at 9⁰C. The trails were muddy and slippery, but given the slope it was expected. The 12 Mile Creek was so nice and so clean and the sound of the water over the rapids was intoxicating. Only birds singing was missing! Can't wait to go back and visit the place in summer. There are many, many trails in the area.
Amazing place for hiking! But you need to go with the proper gear! Be prepared to get muddy and dirty haha. Definitely recommend the view is outstanding.
Beautiful autumn walk.
Hidden beauty with in 2 hours drive from Toronto. Hiking trail is moderate to difficult. Specially walking to the decew falls dont take deep downhill short cut. Which is extreamly dangerous. Walk about 20 mintues on the main trail which is part of the bruicetrail then downhill towards the natural pond area. There are few small waterfalls along the way to the main twin falls bear the mill. Take your bathing suit, water etc so can enjoy the the trail. We have seen so many plastic bottles. Please leave only foot prints.
Wicked place to hike. The water is clean, so you can get right in and swim right under the falls. Cool swimming hole further down the river. WEAR WATER SHOES. Also, if you feel like being a good human, bring a bag so you can collect the trash that the disrespectful people leave behind ????.
Must a go place if you love hiking
Still open for covid, beautiful place, got to see a friend. Great day . ... Oh was free, parking is tight, but seems to be adequate with a little walk
What a beautiful place. There's a historic mill, water falls and waterwheel. I really liked the calm, smooth water above the dam near the waterwheel. Then the water starts its rush down the big waterfall. The Mill had some great volunteers that pointed out some interesting things and there is an opening to see down the big drop to the bottom of the falls. What a pleasant surprise this visit turned out to be!
Beautiful Falls and the gentleman there gave us a tour of the flour mill and the old house on the property, it was interesting and educational. Their was no cost just a donation if you want to. He also gave me information to the St-Catherines museum.
The falls are pretty, the main falls is difficult to climb to if coming from the 2nd falls. If you enter from the main path is easier. Might be challenging to go to the main halls if accompanied by small children. If so go to the second one which has a little river/pond with a robe for the kids to swing into the water.
Our family loves this place. Beautiful. Clean. Quiet. . Interactive mill...
The getaway !!!! ... Best hike and the end of the hike is worth it !
Fabulous for trail running
Gorgeous falls but a tough hike to get to the bottom.
Haven't been here for a while but I loved the place. Hiked right down and around the waterfall and relaxed in the water. Great time
Looks really nice with the mill next to it
Kids loved it. But need water shoes next time
Gorgeous Waterfall. Worth the hike
The hike in Decew Falls was an adventurous time spent with family.
Beautiful place!
This is a fantastic hiking experience. At the entrance, you can visit the mill and see the small one-room museum inside. Next, take the 1.5 - 2 km trail to go to the two waterfalls. It is short, but can get quite steep and you have to overcome obstacles like fallen tree trunks. The highlight is the second waterfall, where you can swim in the warm pond underneath.
Loved it.
Great hiking spot and nice rewarding swim hole if you can find it!!
It's got everything: water, rocks, water going over rocks, a mill reconstructed in 1872. It doesn't get better than this folks.
Beautiful spot, not usually too crowded.
Beautiful location for a walk or some neat photos. Historical information posted around the area provide a glimpse into life during early industrial development in Thorold.
Be careful going down the steep path to the water. Do not recommend for people with accessibility needs. Amazing for dogs!!!!
It's closed for now due to public safety reasons
Very cool buildings! Volunteers told us about the mill, which was super interesting. The falls are amazing and the trail is beautiful!
Beautiful spot, family moments of working together to accomplish getting down to the waterfalls.
Great for a walk or a hike, no other amenities around and parking is very limited, most people park.onnthe road even though it say No Parking
Great place for a hike.
I personally think it is one of the best public hiking trails in Niagara. Absolutely stunning
Awesome sauce
Love this Getaway.
This is the wildest trail nearby. Make sure wear a pair of good trail shoes!
I had never been here or heard about it. It is an absolutely beautiful spot and a beautiful trail to walk with a friend family or furbaby. Lots of history and information on the spot.
Wonderful place to visit for local history!
Interesting history, I think I was too early in the season, because nothing was open.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL! This is a beautiful location with nice trails and stunning waterfalls, but it is a very dangerous climb to descend down to the bottom of the falls. I've been there twice when people fell and broke limbs. It's a great place, but please be responsible and know your limits.
Fabulous, even ran into a bear, but he was nice and all. Ate our lunch and went on to his way . Highly recommend ????
Easy walk. Gorgeous views. Well maintained
An awesome place to visit. Please note to go below the waterfall is both amazing and dangerous. I have been hiking there for decades now and have seen serious injuries happen to people not exercising proper caution.
Awesome place to visit
If you arr a true trai lover. Thi4 is a correct place for you..
Beautiful hiking spot, just make sure it hasn't rained in the last few days as it gets extremely slippery to hike
Great place
Very Good summer Hike...
Awesome park, be sure to find a rope to go down by the falls.
Very beautiful spot was very wet when we went so didnt walk much of the trail ( it's a side trail for the bruce trail) recommend for a family day out!
Beautiful trails and falls especially in the fall with the leaves changing color
The location is very beautiful. Peaceful. The information about its history is a lovely bonus.
Very nice and so close to home
Amazing place to go!
Beautiful view.. Even more Beautiful down below
Short trail with very nice view
I loved hiking here as a kid. Unfortunately the hidden gem of the past has become a tourist attraction and very busy during the warm months.
Beautiful place
Such a beautiful spot! Trails, falls, old Mill, so much to see here. Try to go when the mill is open.
Beautiful spot. Used to explore this spot as a kid. Not much has changed.
Must go place if you are an hiking freak.!! Falls and mill is an additional attraction!!
Such a neat place to see!
A great and memorable hiking location. If you manage to go down to the falls, I don't recommend novice or beginner hikers as it does become a steep climb. Otherwise, it was exhausting and rewarding! Also, ran into a snake!
Fantastic place to spend an afternoon
The site is beautiful, but the paths are badly kept and very dangerous in winter. If you are thinking of doing this trail, please wear good hiking boots
Really nice spot. Wish the did something to give easy access to the falls or to be able to have a good view of the. Parkinh is very limited
Amazing experience, you can hike all around the falls and walk into it.
AMAZING TIME!!!
What a pretty area. Staff are knowledgeable of the history of the mill and home. It's beautiful in the fall there.
Love this trail! Slow-moving creek will lead you down to the falls...
Nice vibe
I can say that it was to extreme for me. The waterfall is beautiful, but not easy to reach for a perfect spot. There is real adventure with mud and fallen trees that you need to climb on and under, sleepery paths and steep slopes you are going on your own. If you will decide to go down think twice....
Fantastic place to walk and hike. Lots to explore and great for most ages.
So much fun, I loved it ????
Nice water falls with two areas where you can swim. Some steep climbing on your way back to the car but fun little chase all together. Stay in the safe side and go slow, a slip and fall means a bad injury or worse.
Love going for a hike here very peaceful and beautiful
Beautiful Place - also see Morningstar Mill also on site.
Awesome hike to a beautiful waterfall to swim under. Trail getting there isn't maintained but if you take your time it isn't hard. Once you reach the Lower Decew Falls you gotta climb up and go above to reach the bigger Decew Falls. Please don't bring your trash, so much garbage has been left their. Don't be trash people. Rock shoes are a must if your trying to swim in the pool under the waterfall.
Super nice staff, beautiful area!
A really nice adventure hike. Its almost a 2 hour hike and the hike pathway stops at one point and you have to climb and walk over stones which is a tough experience but its worth the effort to go and see the natural serenity. Pack some snacks and drinks as you might be needing them on your way.
Gorgeous. But be ready to hike!
This is quite a small fall. The trails are not paved so wearing appropriate gear. After rain, it could be quite muddy.
Love it here. Great spot
This could be a spectacular space but is very run down and unsafe. Fences are in bad shape. Watch your kids and be careful. It could be so much better.
Amazing place for a hike, but be really careful as there is a steep cliff on certain portions of the trail where there is no fence or barrier. Beautiful trees everywhere!
Amazing place to walk ????♂️
It's risky to go there. But when you reach there, your efforts worth it.
A beautiful place to visit, best to reach before sunset.
A beautiful place to visit. Nice hiking route to get to the falls. In my opinion, it's more interesting than Niagara Falls without the crowds.
It is open. You'll have to figure out a way to get in. There are multiple ways to go in. Multiple difficulty level trail. Waterfall is amazing.
Beautiful place. Great experience. Definitely recommend going down the trail as it is safe and a fun exercise. Climbing down the cliffs maybe dangerous (slippery rocks)
Amazing spot! If you visit DONT LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE...please leave no trace when hitting these rare southern Ontario spots. Dont ruin it for others.
Perfect spot to go for a walk, hiking, rock clime, maybe set up a photo shoot. Best part there is no fee for parking. They have tours in the mill, it's a little slice of history. So far best place to hike
Amazing views and hiking trails.
Beautiful but dangerous
Beautiful all year spot which is especially beautiful in the Spring.
Its a hidden gem! So magical
Beautiful place! You definitely need very comfortable shoes to get to the falls.
Very nice place to see a little bit of Canada's heritage. There are a few volunteers explaining the history and the importance of the place. Also strongly recommended if you want to go for a good hiking or trail running in the middle of the nature. Very nice!
Breath of fresh air from the been there done that Niagara Falls. Gorgeous ravine with Ontario's history and heritage.
Total nature eye candy.
Beautiful trails
Smells like home, but only if you live outside
It's a fun place to hike to but it's advised not to hike to the falls ????????????
Excellent hiking trail. 2 waterfalls to enjoy along the trail. Not the easiest access but manageable. Make sure to take good water shoes and dry set of cloth as waterfalls are hard to resist
I'd say by far this is the most beautiful and fun place to hike in Ontario, especially if you go while it's raining, it could get very slippery though so wear some hiking shoes and do not go alone. I wouldnt recommend bringing your little kids here, but you could bring your dogs with you. enjoy Editing my review adding a photo map to help you guys get to the main falls and second falls
I always loved coming to Decew Falls, but this is the first visit since everything is open & I found the guides were very friendly and knowledgeable, I will be back!
Cozy small park and trail
Its closed stay home and avoid a $800 fine UPDATE !!! ITS STILL CLOSED !!!
Amazing place with long history and awesome view.
amazing location
Amazing!!
Awsm place Really enjoyed Do visit
Great place for a walk.
This place was such a gorgeous place to visit. Although there’s nothing much to do (we went in May 2019) you can see the little village building from the outside. The view of the falls is great. The Bruce trail connects here but unfortunately we couldn’t take the trail to see what else there was.
A very nice place to visit, entertaining, knowledge staff, great sights.
There is no fence on the trail, not safe to go with little kids
Good hiking trails all different difficulties
This is a hidden gem! Stopped by on a Monday morning in March and the place was totally empty. Got to walk around, take photos and learn about the history of the area. The best part is that it's totally free! Highly recommend stopping here if you're in the area!
Great place for a walk or longer hike. Parking lot and mill closed but still accessible via Bruce Trail.
Trekked thru the snow when I visited and it was lovely even though the falls were frozen over.
Easy walk and very interesting past. Will be pretty with the fall colors.
nice place for trekking
Love a good hike here
Cool seeing a bit of history.
Nice place to go for a hike
trail was tough to the falls.. but it was worth it.. view was amazing.. ????????
Loved it
Stunning waterfall all times of the year
Defficult hike down to the falls, but worth it. Not recomended for small kids.
Beautiful historical grounds. Super interesting about the spiral staircase that a previous homeowner built to get to the bottom of the falls and ravine. Now people get injured trying to climb down there on steep unmarked trails so they closed the parking lot. But truly a pretty location. It can also be accessed by the Bruce Trail on a side trail with Blue Blazes. Parking can be found on Wiley Rd.
Gorgeous spot to go for a hike or a nice long walk and enjoy nature. Beautiful scenery and peaceful environment.. easy to get to this location and great free place to visit and spend the day. Beautiful drive on country roads in and out of this place ...
The Morningstar Mill volunteers we're very knowledgeable about the history of the property, everything has been beautifully restored.
Very cool! Very good for photography, lots of trails. However it gets very muddy in the winter and spring. Be very careful in the winter for in some places along the path you could fall off the cliff because there is typically ice in the winter. I recommend you visit in the summer or autumn for good trail conditions.
Wish I had more time to stay and picnic there
Great place to take a hike or cool off on hot summer days. Interesting historic mill that still operates and can be toured during production.
Best place for treking and water fun
Great place for a hike!
Awsome place to go especially in the winter
It's an amazing hike. There are two falls!! You should definitely go hiking here in groups and wear appropriate gear so you don't hurt yourselves. You are able to get in the water and sometimes the hike can be dangerous if you aren't careful.
Gorgeous falls and trails in the spring and summer
Was pretty cool wish I seen it to end was hoping to go to bottom for walk under waterfall
One of the best places I have been to, looking at the pictures wondering when I'll go again.
Free tour of the turbine mill. Hiking paths
There is a short cut down to the falls which saves you 30 mins or more, it's not marked out but should be noticable, otherwise you'll have to walk to end an go down the hill and back track. The end has a swimming hole and trails into the short hills provincial park where old water falls and streams are dried out. Plenty to explore and do if you want to see the views of st catharines and Toronto take a right off the path and follow the gravel trail along the water till you reach the hydro pipes. Be safe and wear proper foot wear, whatever you bring in take out.
Beautiful site but the hike down is not for young kids
It's a long walk.We came back after walking half way. But the view was great. It was neat. The environment was peaceful and Serene.
Nice place to hike. I recommend to watch this place. Recommended to wear shoes. It is difficult to go along with infants (obviously hikes are always the same, but just stated as a note). Note: when you are about to reach this place, there is down. Cautiously you can go down and reach the place.
It's ok
Fantastic place for a walk with your family.
A challenging hiking trail if you venture to go down to the water
Working grist mill with tours. Great hiking along the creek.
Gorgeous
Cool piece of local history with an in-season tour guide and available tours.
Drove out here and it was closed with a security officer
A must see. Always pretty as a picture especially in the fall and after a heavy snow.
The wife and I love going here when the weather is nice and go for walks
One of my best trips, had a great time with friends
Beautiful water fall! But very hard to reach...
Beautiful fall color.
So beautiful, such friendly volunteers!
Nice trail
First time I went inside amazing!!! It's ran by volunteers who deserve a 10 star rating!!! Thank you so much for the tour, I'll be back, for sure!!!
Grate place to hike when its dry
Beautiful scenic paths and for the willing it is a great place to hike/swim
great place for walking
Beautiful
Such a peaceful place. Very nice original buildings there.
PLEASE if you go to Decew Falls (it's definitely worth it) DO NOT LITTER. There is so much garbage at the bottom of the trail its disgusting. If you plan on going please bring an extra plastic bag and a glove and help clean up the place. If you are visiting and not a local - respect the area! The hike down is challenging, bring proper shoes (guaranteed your shoes will probably get muddy or wet) and always watch your step. Not recommended for families or people who are inexperienced with difficult hikes.
Grate place to hike
Great water falls and mill. Nice hike around moodie lake
Defiantly need a garbage down there
Great place to go for a nice hike with the family.
Nice place o visit . Parking is limited.
Great place to go for a hike
Beautiful in winter at decew fall, be cautious near cliff
Easy walking trail. Interesting to see a mill in working condition. Call to find out when they mill flour.
The overall experience is good but the quality of the water is very poor! Also one main thing u want to consider is weather, because the trails are very slippery
Lovely hike if you want to exercise as well as take in the beautiful outdoors.
I love visiting DQ Falls for a quick hike with the dog
Although I have lived in the area all my life, I have never actually taken the time to stop and read the historical plaques, and look at the artifacts. Well worth spending an afternoon there.
There was a man on a mega phone yelling saying he was going to call the police on people climbing down to the falls
Great views and trails
Cool views with lots of paths to explore
Great place to bring children for a nice walk or for a challenging hike if you want to get down into the falls. Beautiful place for every one to enjoy
Enjoyable quite
There are two water falls very close, during summer you can clean your energies in those waters and you could walk behind the water in the smaller one. There is a trail that head you to the falls. There is a shortcut climbing the rocks, it’s not recommended but if you loves risks ....
Great local historical site. Took the family for walk. Mill was open. Very cool. Everything was free. Parking is very limited.
Attacked by very fierce snake.
Beautiful place to see
Excellent spot to visit. Volunteers are knowledgeable and answer all questions about the site.
Nice place ???? but bit dangerous
You truley feel like you go back 200 years in time. I lived in this region my whole life and never knew this amazing place existed. I gave it only 4 stars because it is not accessable to everyone. It requires a certain amount of physical fitness to experience the incredible beuty of this place. I am glad I am in shape at age 46 to have enjoyed it.
Great place for a hike, plenty of trails to choose from.
Great trail.. keep on eye on young ones/dogs along the gorge edges..very steep drops
Don’t go it’s closed in covid no parking no entry point
A ridiculous hike to get down to the bottom of the falls, but a beautiful sight
Great location and place to hike
Closed.... no entry permitted
go here and go for a swim also theres a hidden cave I believe it was for mining go n check that out extremely scary thoooo
The place is very risky
Beautiful place to explore and enjoy nature
Love walking here its a nice trail for anyone to walk on with some other spots that can challenge a person if they choose to do so
It's a beautiful place. The way to go to the falls is a challenge though. You have to find ur own way going down and have to hike through mud, go under/over fallen trees, and rocky paths. Going back is more challenging, we climb up using a rope. It's a very nice and thrilling experience.
A great place to go hiking, walking, or, mountain biking.
Not as large as the big falls in Niagara, but very pretty.
Fantastic area for a walk in the forest. Well marked trails along the escartment. You can see for miles out over St Catharines.
Good place
Nice trail.
Fantastic historic site. It's so beautiful and tells such an interesting local history. You can explore all of the buildings and see how things work, and there are interpretive staff who can walk you though things (but they aren't pushy, or boring, and are nice to talk to either way). Outside of the the actual site, there is a path that runs along the creek that offers wonderful views, and if you're brave enough, you can hike down to the creek itself.
Love the scenery and nature's beauty. Too bad kids break glass bottles everywhere, unsafe at times for my dog
Be very careful with the escarpment it is very close to where you walk and there is no fencing.
Really cute place to go for a hike. The parking lot is kind of small, so if you don't get a spot in there and need to park on the road you can - just watch the parking signs. Hiking down to the bottom is quite easy, if you keep walking down to the end and follow the trail markers, you will see an area that is absolutely not that steep and you're able to walk down. Once you get to the falls, it's quite easy to find an access point to climb back up instead of walking all the way back. If my boyfriend who is afraid of heights can climb back up, SO CAN YOU! But honestly overall a really quaint place to hike and a great historic site to explore.
Clean, good parking, lots of plaques and info on site, beautiful location
Beautiful place for a hike. You can hike down into the gorge, right by the falls. There are multiple ropes to help repel into the gorge and to help you climb out!
After google maps wanted us to stop at the side of the road to go hunting for the falls, we decided to stop at an old mill. Low and behold the falls were there! It was a beautiful walk - wear your sneakers if you want to venture down to the water though. There's a trail but if you want to get down there, it's a climb and there's no railings. If you bring kids or pets keep them close to you, it just drops off. Pictures don't do it justice. P.s. the mill was really neat too!
Nice and pleasant site.
Always an awesome place to hike, especially now when you can forage for ramps (a relative of the garlic family), but if you're not familiar with them then avoid trying until you've done your research.
One of the many wonders of st Catharines!
Amazing scenery and trails linked to other networks.
Worth visiting!
Great place to go to see things from years ago like antiques and how flour was made
Worth it! Kids will enjoy the adventure.
Great place for photography!
Nice place for a little hike. Mind your footing with loose stones though. One girl in my group to a muddy tumble on a steeper section of trail.
Its hard to reach but it worths the struggle......
Amazing hiking trail
So beautiful and natural
This gorgeous piece of history is full of so much to discover! Go on the right day and the Morningstar Mill is open for tours, including the original house (they have a Facebook page if interested in seeing their schedule). They still grind flour there too which you can buy!! It's volunteer based and everyone is so wonderful to talk to. I've taken the tours multiple times over the years, it never gets old. The main trail for hiking is great for almost anyone! Towards the end where you reach the swimming hole, it gets a little steep so you need to take your time. There's some super steep climbs if you explore the bottom of two waterfalls for if you're feeling adventurous. Otherwise stick to the main trails for an easier hike. Everything about this place is magical though. The swimming hole is a tropical paradise in summer, complete with a swinging rope to launch yourself into the water. My favourite thing to do is hike down there first and follow the creek up to both waterfalls, finishing off with a nice little challenge of trekking up the cliffside to get back on the main trail. A wonderful adventure no matter what you're in for, and great for photography as well!!
Hike can be dangerous but you'll keep wanting to come back. ❤
This was so much fun. Hiking down to the water was easier than going up.
Love this place but it gets to busy lately for me to bother going there.
This is a excellent place to go for a family hike....that being said some of the trails to the falls are difficult and dangerous take your time. Also dont forget to visit the buildings lots of info of the past
Awesome place to chill ❤️
A nice place to visit if you are visiting Niagra region. This place has 130 years old history. You can also find Bruce trail here
There's no signs or trail markings anywhere to tell you if your going the right way. I hiked all the way and miraculously found it myself and it was closed. Completely fenced off....
Great hike with a couple trail options varying in time and difficulty.
Beautiful. A truly great experience.
Great place for a hike
Lovely fall and great scenery.
Fascinating water powered grist mill, sawmill and lathe, much of it still in operation. Very knowledgeable guide makes the tour very worthwhile.
Gorgeous rustic hiking. Great for advanced hikers who like challenging trails or for casual hikers to enjoy the scenery. You can spend a whole day out there easy.
Love this place. Its absolutely gorgeous!
Decew falls and the Morningside mill is worth stopping by. Decew falls themselves is very pretty and there is a trail network that extends behind the gorge (Laura Secord Trail). There is also an old shaft near the base of the falls;however, it is closed off to the public.
Morningstar mill is a postcard perfect location
It's a slice out of history. Very informative and picturesque. Hiking trails that link up with the Bruce trail. One of my favorites.
Beautiful place to visit and go for a hike. Great place to go when they are running the mills Many different hiking trails to take for everyone.
Fun to many bugs
Nice place for hiking, nice views.
A very beautiful place to take the family or stop at on the way to Niagara Falls.
This place is fantastic, unlike alot of other falls there actually a trail that leads to the lower falls, the trail leading to the upper falls is a bit more of a task. Water shoes are a plus then you can use the creek to get around. Found that alot easier. The upper falls are amazing, well worth the walk. You can venture behind the falls although it's quite slippery. It's a great place to spend a sunny day and lots of amazing photo opportunities.
Would give 5 stars except the buildings were closed for pandemic. Spectacular falls here.
great for summertime hiking
There is no access! Do not attempt to enter the trail or risk on your own
Clean trails lots to explore and beautiful scenery
nice place to hike
Cool place to hike!
Great place to check out
Unfortunately Decew Falls is barricaded off because of Covid-19. What I could see looked worth another visit when it is unbarricaded.
A stunning site with a beautiful waterfall! A must see! An actual working mill.
Peaceful, dog friendly, secluded.
Great place to visit, knowledgeable staff
Beautiful, but rough hike to the falls
Amazing falls & hike
A beautiful historical place. A museum next to the fall. The fall is rather small and a mill is still working. You are not allowed inside the fall area. Only walk externally.
Perfect place for a hike.
Nice falls with a nice trail. Cannot go near the fall unless you are ready to trek down by steep hill. The area is really nice.
The old Mill is wonderful.
Hidden gem! There are two natural falls here in the decew falls area, each beautiful in its own way. The first falls is by a picturesque red mill, the second is further away on the Bruce trail. The first falls is easily viewed from the cabin and surrounding area. The second falls is much harder to get to and i would only recommend to experienced hikers, its wet slippery and involves steep climbs at times. Please be careful and come prepared with the right footwear if you decide to go to the second one!
