Nice little walk through royal wood neighborhood area. So many trees surrounding you can't tell you are in a residential neighborhood. In the summer it's full of beautiful trees and colors. Fall is still really beautiful nice quite walk an s you can even ride your bike through the paths Def recommend for nice stroll. The many many trees help the block the wind from gusting through

Picturesque walking/cycling trail tucked away in a corner of southern Winnipeg in what is described as a 117 acre urban forest. The main pathway is crushed rock that is plenty wide enough to accommodate both cyclists and those on foot.

The Bois des Esprits is a beautiful forested area with pathways leading through the woods. The path began off Shorehill Drive. There was no street parking that I could find in the area so I parked in the No Frills lot across from St. Anne’s. It was a pretty trail leading through the forest. There were some interesting wood carvings in some of the trees along the way! I enjoyed how peaceful the setting was and it didn’t even feel like I was in the city. I made a loop at one of the junctions and went back along the Seine River (but you could continue on the same trail up to John Bruce Road). The path along the river was narrower but really pretty with nice views! This was my first time exploring this trail system and really enjoyed my time there. Great place to go for a walk or run!

Hiking and seeking the carved trees is a really lovely way to spend an evenings or afternoon. Well carved pathways and charming views of the Seine River make this a must see. Make sure you look down too, I saw a couple stumps transformed into people.

Patrick Villacorta

Nice nature trail for cycling / jogging / walking along a small river (Seine). You can make a decent 9+ km loop combining this with the South St Vital trail and the trail through the man-made lakes. There are warnings about ticks so be aware.

Beautiful trails and nature. A real hidden gem, give yourself time to enjoy walking through it.

Ingrid D. Johnson

Great place for walks.

//This review is for the Bois De Esprits Forest.// The forest is a very nice and amazing place to go. There is lots of wildlife to see and it gets very quiet at some times with the only sound be bull frogs. I come here often to clean my mind and it does help. Other times I come here for the mountain biking trails.

Kris Leclaire

Paths that make you feel like you are away on vacation. Quite. In the middle of a forest. Streams. I'll be going back to this path again and again

Worst place to go for a hike with the family, including our Irish Wolfhound, Murphy. It would be much better without the locals. The trail near the Seine River is a narrow mud trail and you always have to keep an eye out behind you as cyclists of all ages come up behind trying to get by, without warning. The ones who had their dogs with them were acting as thoughr Murphy was going to eat their precious "purse" dogs. Either that, or relating to us how so"so and so's dog was attracted and killed. The most insulting, rude and ignorant people that we have ever encountered in the city and for that matter in the province.

Nice day for a walk in mid-October. Crushed stone walking/cycling paths offer a variety of challenges for people of all ages, skills and apparatuses. Trail travel markers would be an assets, not only for the mileage walked, but in event of a problem on the trail. I liked the carving that you find along the way that a local artist has completed for your enjoyment. Wildlife is present, from rabbits to white-tail deer, and chatty squirrels, woodpeckers and song birds bring you closer to Nature. Be prepared to spend anywhere from a half hour to two hours for a walk in the riverbank forest. Dress accordingly for the season, keep hydrated, a good grip sole on shoes keep slipping to a minimum on the slick clay trails, keep to pathways until you become familiar with the area, walk with a buddy of similar strength and endurance. Rest benches are available. Limited parking is available. An Emergency phone would be a welcomed addition to the area. Cell service is adequate at present. And, above all, have fun!

Brian Buchan

Very nice walking path park in the city Lots of wildlife

Dimitris Protsios

Nice hiking trails and different loops available. Forest throughout and easy to walk trail. Lots of bikers in the same trails but overall not so busy. The entrance by the bridge has no parking spots so you would have to park further away and walk to the trail.

Janet Dunstan

Chantal Smith

This is a great trail, for a walk, run or a bike ride. The main trail is gravel, and has gradual slight dips as it weaves its way through the forest and by the river. The secondary trails that are closer to the river are dirt, with “unofficial” wood bridges made of 2 by 8 boards over areas that have a drainage ditch type dips. Most of the “unofficial” wooden plank bridges are in good shape, but a few of the boards are beginning to rot, so bikers need to be cautious. The trail to the north ends at John Bruce Rd E, but you can continues north to Bishop Grandin on trails if you go west a little on John Bruce Rd E and turn north just before crossing the walking bridge over the Seine River. The trail that continues north is in John Bruce and Orchard Hill Parks, is very flat asphalt, and joins the Bishop Grandin Greenway asphalt trails. To continue on gravel trails south of the park, head west when you exit the south part of the trail at Shorehill, and either take the steeper gravel path under the Royalwood Bridge to get to the south side of Shorehill, then take the gravel path going south which is just west of the bridge, or walk west on the sidewalk on Shorehill over the Royalwood Bridge to the intersection of Shorehill and St Anne’s Rd., cross to the south side of Shorehill, head slightly east on Shorehill to the path that goes south just before the bridge. The gravel path will continue for another 2km, and end at Creek Bend Rd.

Fantastic trails through stands of aspen poplar and bur oak trees along the winding Seine River. Keep your eyes peeled for beautiful wood carvings throughout. I see deer every time I walk there. I have also seen foxes, turtles, crayfish, and all sorts of birds. Totally amazing in all seasons. A wonderful forested area filled with enchanting spirit carvings plus deer. I would suggest going before 11 am as it gets busy later in the day but the forest is huge so you dont really feel tge crowds that much, I prefer to be mostly alone in the forest. I would suggest parking at No Frills, then walking to the well marked trail head, there are no washrooms nor garbage baskets. So much wildlife! This year we've watched ducks, geese, beavers, hawks, rabbits and deer raise their young. Sighted fox, turkey vultures, pelicans, muskrat, and most recently, river otters. Watched a turtle lay her eggs, and now we're waiting to see the babies hatch. We've eaten Saskatoons and plums and chokecherries. Nature's bounty! And then of course, the man made wonders...the carved trees!

Whether you walk or ride a bike, this park has many winding trails through the forest that follow the Seine River starting from Bishop Grandin almost out to the Perimeter Highway. I never tire of cycling through the trails as you can choose multiple routes either on an asphalt trail or winding through single track trails beside the river. There are a number of beautiful carvings on the trees and people have hung up cute little bird houses throughout the trail. Many deer live in the forest as well, making the Bois-des-Esprits a wonderful destination.
