My wife liked the place. For me it was okay. I grew up in southern Ontario with very similar surroundings. The amished farm houses were almost identical.Yes nice and homie family.

#1 on my bucket list✔️ engaged ✔️ ???? one of the best days of my life

Unorganised. Simply a tourist trap. Unless you are a sold fan of Anne of Green Gable, you will be disappointed. We got there, couldn't get the horse/cart ride, it was reserved for a bus of tourists arriving. No map of the facility. We didn't know what there was to visit. We looked around a bit. Couldn't really see anything of interest other than the house and a barn. You can pay 6$ to go check AofGG artifacts in the house. They have a gift boutique attached to a cuisine/café salon. I saw a tray of authentic gingerbread cookies and ask if i could get a couple or buy a couple (there was no price sign) and they refused; this plate of cookies was for that tourist bus. Once the tourist bus left, there were some cookies left and again I asked politely if i could buy 4 of them so my parents could try them. Got denied again.... Their claim to fame is "we have the most artifacts from the author of the book". The feeling I got is this is a privately owned establishment riding the Green Gables theme the best they can but doing a poor job at it. Fact is... Any place you visit relating to Anne of the Green Gable in PEI is more about the author and where the inspiration comes from and not the actual book. If you are not a true green gable fan then my advice is skip this place and go visit the national museum instead (ran by the government). You will get a guided tour and much better info.

(Translated) A scam!!!! Do not go to this place! Well maybe you are a fan. But otherwise there are many other things to do like sleeping, enjoy your tent or shouted indemnities to the person who decides to go to this serious place! A real waste of time and it costs too much! (Original) Une arnaque!!!!

How lovely. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I got the Anne of Green Gables book here for my mum here as a great reminder of a lovely trip.

boring

Deanna C

It's ok. Matthew's carriage ride is simply a ride through the field. We took a half hour ride and it was ok but we saw more from the car. The carriage ride was $65! There's only a gift shop and a house there that you pay a separate fee to walk through.

Lawrence Haddlesey

Was pretty interesting. But I must say that the carriage ride for 120 bucks would've been nice yet they only take cash for that. So we didnt want to have to leave and come back again.

(Translated) The home of Montgomery's aunt is now a museum and a home where she lives. A facility with a souvenir shop. The director is a relative of Montgomery. There is still a room where Montgomery celebrated the wedding. What was used at that time was also left as it was. Actually touch the iron It was so heavy that the women at that time I realized again that housework was super hard work. The garden was also nice. Redhead Ann is a place that we call romantic sparkling lakes. When I went on a trip to Prince Edward Island, I stopped by Redhead Entour.

Pretty disappointing

Go here if you have read the book and are a total fan. It'll be boring and meaningless otherwise. Not worth the detour even when it's free and you have nothing to do. You can't even see the author's actual house in this park. The trails had some charm but I'm sure you can find better on the island (e.g. Bubbling Springs trail, Winter River).

(Translated) I am watching Anne's series and I have been captivated by the story, but out of curiosity and to get deeper into its environment, I looked at maps and it seemed incredible to see that this place is real, to know virtually the places to visit Anne, her farm in Green Gables, and seeing that there is a museum with her things, her clothes, and the interior of the house has seemed really exciting to me, only those of us who are deep in Anne's history can appreciate every detail, I hope one day to be able to physically visit Green Gabels and all its surroundings !!! A virtual hug to all those who have made the existence of this museum possible .. a thousand stars for you ???????????????????????????????????????? Beautiful place, very lovely.

A bit of fun to walk around in, a fair bit of info to learn about author. Didn’t remember too much about books, so it wasn’t quite as enjoyable for me, but it would likely be better for others. A good bucket list item, but you can probably skip it if you want to save some time and money.

Definitely a must visit even if you are not familiar with Lucy Maud Montgomery and her written works.

Save your time and money. Totally a useless visit. Relative of old deceased author has the personality of a mop. Very avious she only wants your money. Surprised that NCL makes this place an excursion destination. Totally a waste of time

Interesting family history of L.M.Montgomery.

(Translated) Paying visit of the interior of the house for a maximum of 15 minutes. Tiny trail behind. A course and a horse. Nothing be worth the time and travel. Daniel Blanchard

Nice to see if you're into Anne's story. Authentic and full of littles stories, pictures and stuff. A nice lady gives us a quick story when you get in, horse and buggy rides available, nice walk on the property and in a short Forest trail. Worth the stop!

Eva Siu

Nice place for tourist. It's a "MUST GO" place for the fans that can track what's in the book.

Yoshihiro Aoyagi

Beautiful location. A must stop for any fan of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Nearest place to eat, though is Kensington

Adam Rothwell

Was an ok museum. You are given a brief history lesson after u pay admission. Then you walk through the house. See a lot of artifacts. Then ur done. Maybe 15 min. Horse carriage rides are available. Starting at $75 per person

Mithun

Beautiful place.

Eric Viklund

My wife had this on her to do list before we toured the island. It was a good place to visit and get acquainted with the spirit of Lucy Maud Montgomery. The walk through the small house showed many different artifacts from the past that were a part of our growing up lives. Took a walk on Lovers Lane to celebrate our 50th anniversary.

Hally Rob

This is where Lucy M Montgomery wrote Anne la maison pignon vert. It is not Anne of green gable. Nice to see the old book, rooms...

Dylan Iovene

Unfortunately we got here after it closed but was able to get some nice pictures of the house itself. I don't suggest coming after they close as we were yelled at by a woman inside just for being on the property even though the museum doors were unlocked and wide open, the gate was open, and their was no signage saying you could not be there. She was incredibly rudenl to us and another family who were unaware we couldn't even look at the house after 5.

Travis “20two19” Singleton

My wife wanted to come here and visit the house, I’m so glad we did. The tranquility was breath taking. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it. Pam was a joy to chat with and we enjoyed looking at the artifacts from Lucy’s past. We will visit again the next time we come to PEI.

James Gallant

Nice place to explore information on Anne of green gables writer.

Lost

My daughter looks like her

Ria Spee

It was awesome. A relative of Maud opened the museum up for us during the off season and we had a wonderful chat with her in the kitchen. I learned so much more about Maud that I didn't learn at The Anne of Green Gables Heritage site and I doubt if there would have been anyone there to open up for us. We came upon the museum accidentally because that was what the driver put I to his GPS thinking it was the heritage site. Pam Campbell even said we could follow the path of the horse and carriage and take a drive down to the beach. What a wonderful visit! Thank you so much, Pam!! I have talked about this visit so many times with friends over the past year.

Mijung Kim

Good to see her footsteps...

Devon Sharp

David Salomon

Pretty interesting Place lots a history, if your into the Gables it's a must. Sights are good.

Philip Curran

If you like Anne of Green Gables then you must go here. I'd suggest paying for the carriage ride as well. Take the hour long one and you'll get some time to yourself on the beach...Very peaceful and beautiful. Staff are very friendly as well.

Shyla Tibando

I didn’t know what to expect beyond preservation and history. It was an absolutely enthralling place. It was so easy to place yourself in Montgomery’s imagination while wandering through the yard, the house, and trails. A tot clutching her plush Anne doll with a huge smile sums it up.

Goods Family Adventures

I cried. Legitimately. Any fan of the Anne of Green Gables will love this place it's absolutely perfect.

Bill Piper

My wife is a Green Gables fanatic. We waited for decades for the opportunity to see it in person. Arriving around 5pm, we drove to each site to be sure we knew how to get there the next day. Upon arriving at this site, the woman in the museum (see other references on this page) opened the door of the museum and sicked her German Shepard on my wife. (I was in the car setting up the left leg of the trip on google maps). My wife kept asking why are you being so rude? It was then that I saw the dog, and we gassed it out of there. Now broken hearted, we are going home (1300 miles) and she will never be the same. All b/c of some old witch. We will never go back.

Jason Babakaiff

Knowledgeable staff who love what they do.

A great place to take anyone who loves anne of green gables. A visit is even enjoyable for for those who are not fans.

Christian Muth

If you love it, you will love it. ;-)

James Feudo

A must do at PEI. Historic property, cute gift shop and while the carriage ride was pricey, it was fun and worth it.

John Rice

The museum covered lots of biographical details about LM Montgomery, but not much on the books. The house tour was interesting but also lacking in specific details to make it more engaging and meaningful. There are several walking trails which are quite lovely, and of course the costumed actors were a nice addition. That said, I probably wouldn't go back.

Mehdi Pakzad

Very nice historic grounds. The Natural view around the property is also a site.

Emma S.

Such a beautiful and informative location. I really love and appreciate how much it delves into the personal history, struggles, and inspirations of the incredible Lucy Maud. There was also the sweetest kitty there which put a cherry on top the whole experience!

Kirk Bratvold

A decent little museum and gift shop.

Jojo Kelly

Beautiful experience. Magical area!

Randula Karunajeewa

Janna Raber

I've been a fan of Anne of Green Gables since I read the book as a girl. I learned so much more about the author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, and her brilliant imagination in creating and bringing to life the character and story of Anne Shirley. This museum and the grounds made the story even more magical in my mind! I hope to come back here and to the magnificent island of PEI someday.

Malcolm

If you like the books you'll love this place

Dan Hentschel

The house is pretty and clean. There is a HUGE amount of information about L.M. Montgomery if you're willing to take the time to read all the text throughout the tour. There are clean bathrooms and a small gift shop. It's a bit of a drive from the other LMM sights in Cavendish, but not too bad.

Louise Borg

If you're a fan of walking through old houses then do it..other than that the grounds are nice and peaceful.

Paul Michaud

Very nice experience. Highly recommend. Although I was not at all familiar with the Anne of Green Gables saga, I totally enjoyed my visit there. We purchased the DVD box set of the series, and after I watched it with my Wife, I understood the whole story much better. It gave new meaning to our visit.

Stephen Bain

Quiet and cozy place, friendly staff, not an unreasonable price to get in and look around.

Ashley Gardner

Phenomenal staff - welcoming & knowledgeable. The site is beautiful & the highlight of the Green Gables sites we visited. The carriage ride is a must.

Shawn Howlett

Definitely go there again. I forgotten about this museum from when I was a child. Qas fantastic to relearn that part of our history.

Anisaftab Saiyed (Anis)

Best places for literature fans who want to know more about Lucy Montgomery. This is a must visit for people who know about the world famous Anne of Green Gables story. The museum also has nice trails for a stroll in summer.

General Dexter

What a fun place to visit! I have watched all the movies and TV shows about Anne with an E. It was amazing to see the house and areas Ms. Montgomery was inspired to write about.

Stan Sarnocinski

Nice story.

Brittany Rose

Crystal Leary

Great time except the guy with the horse and wagon was very rude

Sara Dadras

Nice enough. Not very friendly the admission lady. Good little gift shop

EL-Undercover

It's so amazing!

Jonathan Bainbridge

A random house about a fictional character in a book of fiction. If you liked Anne of Green Gables, and can ignore the golf course surrounding the house, and only look at the back of the house so you don't see the gigantic sign for the museum... you might be able to imagine Anne crossing the Lake of Shining Water, skipping up to the back door to find Marilla and Matthew waiting supper... Close your eyes and imagine.

Cool place

(Translated) This place is much more worth a visit than the more commercial Cavendish Museum which is a replica of the filming house. Here you will find yourself in the author's vacation home. This house still belongs to the author's family. For an authentic visit this is the best option in my opinion. A lovely place with friendly staff, pretty relaxing without the crowds. It's not the most accessible place but the staff were very good about letting us pull up to the back of the house to unload my wheelchair. The only issue we really had was that the chair got stuck on the gravel walk leading to the craft shop ramp. The carriage ride was absolutely lovely!

(Translated) This museum is a tourist trap: it lacks a lot of history and some pieces are illusory. It costs $ 6 per person for a visit of ten minutes without guided tours. Here is what I discovered from my research after my visit to the "museum": Lucy Montgomery wrote only two books in Cavendish on Prince Edward Island: she married in 1911, shortly after the death of her grandmother and moved to Ontario. She wrote the rest of her novels there and she died in Toronto. Yes Anne of Green Gables was written on Prince Edward Island, but nothing more. In addition, rooms in the house suggest that there were children in this house (maybe her toys ...), But Lucy did not have children on the island. She had three children with the man she married: I suspect she had them in Ontario. In short, in my opinion, paying for this museum is feeding a lie.

Monica S

Such a lovely place to visit. The carriage ride was stunning with must see views! So peaceful and breathtaking. The museum displays Montgomery’s room and some belongings. Very nice.

Another must see if visiting PEI

Nick Kidd

To be honest, I wanted to rate this as a 2 star because Anne is Green Gables is not really my thing. However, went there with the family who I thought would appreciate it more. It’s a nice place but the museum is not really that impressive and certainly very touristy and definitely not worth it. Even the wife and kids weren’t really impressed. If you’re in PEI, and in that area, there’s definitely a lot better stuff to do, eg Cavendish beach, than waste your time here.

(Translated) How exciting to know that this place exists! The Ann with "E" series is a great inspiration for much of the history of this beautiful natural space. I would like to visit it someday and perceive its colorful and hopeful spring, its short summer, its dazzling autumn or its unforgiving winter, to see if the latter shows me the "Princess Cordelia", dressed as a bride, the bride of adventure and, on the way to the "Snow Queen". Excellent! This is the home of the author of the Anne of Green Gables series of books. Lovely.

A must stop for those that read the books or for some good canadian culture. This is the home of the authors extended family where some of the books were written. Descendants still work there. Home is full of great artifacts and info. Take your time to read and observe. Gifts shop, carriage rides and walking path.

Great history

Louis-Philippe Durand

(Translated) We went through renovations so the introductory scenery wasn't great which ruined the experience to leave. There is the green gable house building to visit and a walk through the haunted forest which is ultimately a charming little forest with some explanation about the author of the novel. Performers are slow to respond to demand and are only there for appearance. There was Anne and her friends who showed up to say hello. A very big shop which surely the most important attraction but the prices are exorbitant and gives an aftertaste to the visit. Products that cost 4 times more than an off-site store so don't spend there. Instead, go to the museum in Kensington which has nice people descended from the author who can also authenticate your novel. There is plenty of parking space.

Take the guided tour, it really enhances the experience! Our family really enjoyed this place!

We got there around 11:30 am and carriage ride was unavailable. We were told that was horses lunch time. So if you would like to have a carriage ride, go there before 11:30 or after 13:30.

Great place just hate seeing horses pulling carts. That horse looked real tired.

David DeNardis

A must see for fans of Lucy Maud Montgomery. Beautiful museum and go at your own pace.

Trouble with Triton

If you have to chose , pick this museum. It's got spirit and a better feel at portraying the love and comfort of PEI for LM Montgomery. You see the connection and hear or read her stories . Actual artifacts from her and her family are on display as well. It feels like how I picture Green Gables should be.

Great spot to learn or enjoy what you already know about L.M. Montgomery and her famous stories. Not great for busy little kids but other than that it's a excellent bit of history.

Wanted to go there my entire life..stopped by to take pictures..was not supposed to open for another few days..but the lady let us go thru..impressed

Rachelle Berger

What a great house to visit. The scenery around the house was great. I felt like I was living in her books here. It is so quaint at this place. I really enjoyed my visit here.

Melissa McKinnon

The museum curator lady was very passionate about the history of this museum and very welcoming. Bucket list visit more than I ever imagined....brought back so many memories of reading and watching Anne of Green Gables that it actually got me a little emotional. Definitely a place I will return to with my girls P.s. raspberry cordial is the best thing I've ever tasted!

Marlen Capo

Great place for kids and children, the nature around was awasome.

It was more off the 'beaten path' than expected but that wasn't an issue but we would have packed more grub and goodies for an over night stay had we realized that a drive 'up the road' in New London meant 15-25 minutes to a convenience store. LOL The restaurants in the area were great and our motel was okay especially considering the fact that tourism season is behind due to the destructive winter PEI had! However, we also had a leak in our room that kept us awake more than I'd like. It was addressed by the motel owner but still, nothing he could do late in the evening with the rain still pouring outside. The museum itself wasn't anything spectacular BUT we anticipated this as we understood it was the aunt and uncle's homestead, bigger than that which Lucy was born in (we visited her birth home as well) and considered well-to-do for the times but the landscape was lovely and the home beautifully furnished and laid out with many signs and notes denoting events and explanations of pieces in each room. That said, considering this was our main point in visiting the island - my mother is 73-years old and is a fan of LMM's writings since she was 10-years old - my mother was awake at 5:30 a.m. itching to get started. Unfortunately as the museum opened at 9 a.m., we had a wait. Even a spot for breakfast wasn't available until 7:30 a.m. We had a great meal. Then off to the museum. We arrived at the museum at 9:38 a.m. to find a CLOSED sign still in place. Everything locked up. We even range the 'ship' bell. Nothing. Knocked. Nothing. We were not happy. We took the trip overnight from CB to see this ONE place which opened at 9 a.m. but was still closed. The internet wasn't available due to the remote location so I called a friend in Cape Breton to get the tourism number. My mother commented, "Oh well, I could look in the windows". THAT was NOT an option. When I got the number a car pulled into the parking lot. This was at 9:45 a.m. The woman who got out was an employee of the gift store opposite the museum. We asked when the museum would be open, she commented, "Oh she should be in there...look, the door is open". It was open NOW and the closed sign still on. If you're saying you're open at 9 a.m. at a provincial and/or federal site, OPEN at that time! See the inside, especially the writing desk was the highlight for my mother. It had been her dream for a very long time and, thankfully, it came to fruition.

It was my childhood dream to visit this place, I went there with such a excitement. The house, view, everything were so fascinating! However, this became my worst experience that I had so far. The lady at the front door was racist and she was behaving in way that made to regret of coming to this place. We were three students who wanted to visit the house and when we asked that “do you have any discounts for students”, she said “ the greatest discount that we ever gave you was letting you come to Canada”. I stayed quiet and just paid for the tickets but I decided to write this review to make people aware of my experience.

Many more personal artifacts of Lucy Maud Montgomery with descriptions. She was married here and house remains in original condition. Carriage ride with Mathew available. Not as many tourists as Parks Canada sites.

There are many Anne of Green Gables sites and this is the only one we visited. It's neat to see where the author lived for a part of her life. The staff was very friendly and informative. We got there before the opening so had the place almost to ourselves. After seeing this, we didn't feel the need to visit the other sites. We did drive by the house where the author was born and didn't see anything worthwhile stopping for.

William MacDougall

Wonderful information about LM Montgomery and her family. Well documented and very well cared for. Very interesting in a beautiful setting.

My family and I have revisited the museum several times. Very informative and I think better than the other Anne of Green Gables museums.

I am a life time Anne of a Green Gables kindred spirit and this place for me was absolute heaven. To be honest I felt so moved I cried! They have the cabinet that Lucy and Anne made their window friend, Katie Maurice in as well as lots of other personal items of Lucy's, they even let me play the organ that was used for Lucy's wedding and it's set on the real Lake of Shining waters she refers to in the book and that they film in the movie. The carriage ride was expensive but again it was so so beautiful and takes you right to the place you have read about plus Matthew was the real thing for me! So worth it. Because it is quiter and less touristy than Green Gables you really connect in the way you imagine. If you are are a true Kindred spirit this is a must do.

I had such a good time at the Anne of Green Gables Museum. It was a real treat to see the place that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery to write the beautiful story of Anne Shirley. I could almost feel Anne's presence as I walked around the quaint old place. I would love to go back some day.

To be honest, it is too expensive and employees do not welcome visitors very much. The woman who explained to the museum thought she was a robot.

We truly enjoyed our visit to the Anne of Green Gables Museum and it was extremely interesting to see the parlor where Lucy Maud Montgomery was married and to read some of the letters she had written to others and to learn more about her personal life. In one of her letters she spoke about not having enough money to hire a nurse and she thought she was losing her mind. She also stated that fame did not bring riches and it was shocking to learn that she died with very little money. It was heartbreaking to think that she was never financially rewarded for her incredible talent while she was alive. The house contains several items that are mentioned in The Anne of Green Gables books, including the Enchanted Bookcase. There are also a lot of pictures of Lucy Montgomery’s family members, which gives one a sense of her family history, which was also very interesting. The outlying grounds were also beautiful and the gift shop was very nice also. The staff was wonderful to us and helped us with our 90 year old mother who has mobility issues and we appreciated their help. Overall it was a truly wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it to others who are Anne of Green Gables fans and interested in the life of Lucy Maud Montgomery!

More history and artifacts than the actual Green Gable site in Cavendish. Actual relatives still live in this farmstead, which inspired Lucy Maud's Shining Waters. LM Montgomery was married in this house. Today, it is open for tours, and horse-drawn carriage rides are available.

The worst history tour I’ve ever been on. The house was nice but lacking information. Matthew horse carriage ride was a waste of 75$ for a half hour. No info was given, he talked about his life, told us about the different people who come their for weddings. And no where to get a tea or coffee, tea room was reserved, I was so upset as I’m a history buff.
