Open to the General Public on Ottawa's Doors Open in June, this is one of the highlights. Basically the sister houss to the falling apart 24 Sussex, this house has been beautifully maintained. The gardens are exquisite.

I visited for Doors Open Ottawa, and I had such a great experience. The residence itself was gorgeous--as was the garden space--but the real highlight was meeting the British High Commissioner. She was so friendly and welcoming, and her staff were lovely enough to offer visitors lemonade and ice cream. I will always cherish the memory.

Amazing house, Historically significant, John A McDonald house.

Beate Pradel

Stately residence of the British High Commissioner. This building is very well maintained. It was once the residence of John A. Macdonald the first Prime Minister of Canada. The view from the dining room overlooking the Ottawa River is to die for - on that topic John A. died on the second floor. The current residents have displayed many unique artworks which lend some modernism to the rooms. The grounds are amazing, they must have a very talented Gardener.

I went on open doors day and was super impressed. The British high commissioner was out greeting everyone and she was super lovely. She basically opened her house up for the public to see and treated everyone as guests. The house itself was really cool to see given its history. Overall a very nice experience.
