REVIEWS OF Scout Valley Loop Trail IN Orillia

Victor Barros Costa

Overall, not a bad place to go for a hike. Our party had some trouble identifying the "scenic lookouts" identified in the map, as many of them appeared to be just spots next to closed woods with tall grass. While there were a few beautiful spots, if you're looking for a scenic getaway kind of trail there should be better options out there, as a good part of the trail was next to local roads so you can hear car noises in the background. There are washrooms in the parking lot, which is convenient. They were very well maintained when we went there.

Nadine Ritchie

Lots of options. Trails not marked well though. Easy to get turned around. Beautiful scenery.

Sara Bonnici

Great trails with a mix between forest and medows. The bridges were well maintained and clearly marked trail. I was very impressed that dog poop bags were also provided at the trail head.

Nice trail, pretty, close to town but signage can be better so you wont get twisted around. Recommend

I love it out here. Animal friendly.

we parked next to an old log home per Google's directions. there were a few other vehicles there, but I was really unclear how we kept coming across so many different people on our walk! turns out there are three different parking lots from which you can start your walk. the trail was well obscured by the leaves so it was tough to pick it out correctly. there are a number of complementary trails not listed on all trails (so it is easy to amble "off trail" without realizing it). it was a warm, sunny fall day and the weather was just right for a slow, but steady drop of leaves. My son caught a bunch, as did I. we met quite a few dogs and quite a lot of careless owners whose unhelpful call of "my dog is friendly!" repeatedly had to be met with "my dog isn't!". other than that, a really clean, well spaced trail. there are some steeps to climb/descend and there are hazards like big rocks/roots over the trail, so it wouldn't be an easy trail for everyone. for the able bodied, it was very easy and absolutely lovely. I'd like to see it in winter.

Very nice trails suitable for families with kids. Free parking and clean washrooms make the visit enjoyable!

The trail was beautiful but in need of new trail signs/color codes.it doesn't make alot of sense with Google maps.

Nice location... trails are poorly labeled and men’s bathroom was a horror movie set... not for the faint of hearted...

Great area

It was a beautiful trail with lots to see but much of the paint has rubbed off of the trees and it's difficult to find many paths. Really wish they had signs for the "sights" to see. Saw the old gravel pit but no signs of the old cabin reminenents. We passed the old foundation of the sap house without noticing it the first time. With some signs and better trail markers it would really improve the experience.

Great trail but didn't see much besides a few chickadees. Would come back in the summer if passing Orillia.

Great hiking area that is well maintained. Many areas we go to are more off the beaten path so this one is always a gentle respite.

Short but nice trails. Can be noisy near highway

Rex Tsang

Not very difficult, has some elevation changes. It's close to the highway so you get the noise from there. It was pretty wet and muddy in some spots.

Nice little with not much of a crowd.

Awesome hike

Amazing place. I actually found out about this hidden gem from a TikTok video (@ontariotravels). This is a great place to walk, hike, bike etc. Beautiful views and multiple grades of terrain. Paths are well kept with wood chips. Beautiful in the fall with the many sugar maple trees in the area.

Ashley Kushnir

Short drive from Orillia. Lots of different routes to hike. Somehow got off the path a couple of times and had to make our own path to get back on track, which was hard to find just follow the creek and you will eventually get to where you want.

Couple nice trails. We visited in the spring and many trails were difficult due to flooding.

Awesome hiking area. If you are into geocaching there are a few fun ones on this trail.

Aaron

Gorgeous trails. Great for the kids or some exercise.

Carolyn Holmes

Every single time I’ve hiked in here, map in hand, I have become lost. They, whomever they are, need to start their trail marking system all over again. This is a very confusing place to hike in my experience, so I avoid it, which is too bad because it is beautiful.

Shaun Hensher

Poorly marked trails, but a nice place to walk and enjoy nature.

Rahul Vyas

Great hiking place, also have free parking. Great for a nice walk.

Laura Cardona

Nice place for a hiking trip. It'd be nice if it had more signage.

Shawn Goodwin

Careful not to get lost if you aren't good at remembering a map. The trails aren't perfectly marked.

Hands down one of my favorite spots in Orillia (especially for a nature-lover); if you like walks in the woods/hiking, you'll absolutely love this park! It's much bigger than most people think, and if you go exploring prepare to get lost. Depending on how good your navigation is, you might want to think about bringing your phone to look at 'trusty-ol' Google maps lol

chris sellers-mccaw

Beautiful area to walk.

Nicole Smith

It's a beautiful area! The hike was well worth it, but be mindful of the trail levels.

Scott Rance

Great loop for the dog walk..

Jeff Wong

Not too difficult or long, with some incline at certain parts. Was the perfect difficulty level for beginners or slightly more advanced. Path was easy to follow for the most part, though the Algonquin trail got confusing. Had to pull out Google Maps to guide through that.

Food Taster

Mary Langevin

The trail itself was nice and well kept but the part I took brought me right beside Hwy 11 and the noise of the traffic was deafening! Not very nice for hiking in the woods.

Shivam Vyas

The path can be more clear

I run and hike this little Orillia hot spot regularly. Beautiful trails with lots of flats, hills and moderate obstacles, to make your experience fun and challenging (if running). For the casual hiker there are many trail options. from easy walking to challenging. Overall, a great trail system in a nice valley, alone 5 min from downtown Orillia. 5 star rating !

Mohamad Hammoud

Easy trails suitable for families with kids and for people who want to just have a pleasant walk. The colors in the fall are amazing. Make sure to use insect repellent though.

Eve Cottom

Lots of nice walking trails from 3 parking lots.

Bruce Middleton

My kifs loved at as did I we met some really nice people the trails were excellent

Jeffrey Rombough

It's great trail with a river, bridge, mature trees and a historic building. There are many free parking space and a public washroom. There are many stones with a name to memorize some people who made contribution.

Great trail, see lots of people walking their dogs, very steep hill towards old Barry road, definitely will be back here

J C

A great place to hike that's close to town!! There are several different parking places that will take you to different trail heads. They're all gorgeous!! They all have nice maps at the start too. I particularly like heading down to the stream, there's a lot of lovely wildlife to view down there. Depending on when you go you'll see everything from tons of blooming trilliums to tons of dancing mayflies. There's even an artesian spring!!

Jessie Siew

Amazing for Fall colours in mid October

Jack Ninaber

The markings are hard to find...we ended up right at Hwy 11 lol

Great trail for kids, dogs and the odd cat. Be aware that people tend to think this is a leash off dog park. It is not. If you fear dogs perhaps walk elsewhere.

Jason DeValadares

Short or long hikes or bike rides. Great trails.

Sand Lake Danette

Great Trail Love it

Astrid lei

Great trails, lots of different terrain for beginners n people who wanna get some hill work in, lots of people with dogs, depending on time of day! But over all Good experiences!

Robert S

A fine variety of trails with heart raising climbs and easy flats. Muddy sections after a rain down in the valley potions.

Shelly Casy

Trails were good for hiking. Lots of mosquitoes, so walk with your insect repellent.

There's an old cabin. The trails are great! They're moderate and well kept.

Greg Wiley

Great walking trails with lots to see. Trails are quite easy with only a few climbs along the way but also plenty of nice spots to stop for a break.

Kiko Kocalev

Very beautiful but still noisy from nearby highways. Not ideal if you want peace amd quiet on your hike. But worth seeing, especially the hills and the river

Loved the trail, some places are steep to climb or get down . We used the dead stocks available on the trail as support. Overall very nice. Would advise stick to the trail or u can get lost

Good place for walking in the Fall season.

Doug Miller

Good place to take your Dog. A nice spot close to town. I had troubles navigating my first time there , it just added to the adventure.

Lynn Zupan

Very nice trails, however somewhat poorly marked.

As a local, this is my absolute favourite place in Orillia. There are two entrances for vehicles and each offers a different perspective of Scouts. It is a peaceful retreat from technology and population. The lots are always quite full with visitors to the trail but seldom do you cross paths with others. Those looking for a quiet retreat can find a path to suit their needs while avid hikers can also find varying terrain to adventure upon.

R Ferris

Great place to get outside and hike some trails. Very quiet during the week

Edward Stephens

Great spot for a hike with the dog

Patrick Jackson

Nice trail system with mixed forest. Popular for walking dogs. Also has a lookout towards Lake Simcoe.

Heather J

My dog Abby loves going there. It's very nice going there in the fall to see all the beautiful colors.

Mike St. Pierre

Trails were nice but there was so much poop!!!! All of the disgusting dog owners really need to pick up their dog's poop. Alternatively, don't own a dog if you can't be bothered with the responsibility. To touch on the trails again, they were poorly marked and unfortunately the sound of the highway took us out of how beautiful the location really is. Our favourite place is the side trail by the river, there is a twisting quiet trail that has you pass over the water in many spots and because you're in a valley, its whisper quiet.

Garth Zutautas

CLIFF Good

Great trail with lots of level changes and twists and turns. Great forest scenery. Always a pleasure to walk.

Reagan House. 1st house ever built in Orillia. Very interesting. First located on Westmount where Shoppers Drug Mart is now. Lovingly moved and recreated to Scout Valley. Great area for dog walking. Washrooms available

Rob C

Great hiking trails.

It was a little hard to follow and not maintained well for the winter, but it was still nice and not too long if you're looking for a nice afternoon walk.

Jessica Bradford

It's nice, but full of mosquitos and the lanes aren't really standing out in the terrain

Feels So Mystical beautiful nature walk so pretty in the fall and winter all times of the year all year around great to take the kids for a little hike many different trails even has a bench to sit down at a beautiful little creek too enjoy the peace of nature ❤️

Wade M.

Len Leighton

Awesome trails for snowshoeing, beginners level. Disappointed with the pet waist on the trails. Please take your pet's waist with you.

Richard Levison

This is a very nice set of hiking trails. They are kept up well. I would have given it a higher mark but the proximity to the highway and a busy cement plant detract from the peacefulness of what is a beautiful location as there is no where on the property you cant here one or the other

Ken Gordon

Great trails, well maintained. Only suggestion would be to enhance the colour coding of the trails or maybe signs along the trails to the various parking lots. We got spun around a few times and aside from asking others where to go, there really wasn't anything else.

It's a nice area but the trails are not well marked. Probably better to go in and retrace your steps back out than try to do a loop.
