Very nice place to visit
Lots of great history and costumes well done.
Everything was closed when we passed (June 3) . Website showed that it should be open on June 1st. Dead town when its closed. Still the staff in the Village was really welcoming and friendly. Saved the day. NO RESTAURANT'S IN TOWN. Be prepared.
Great place to spend a day.
Great place!
Great visit to the museum, I have been wanting to visit for many years now. Staff are excellent at what they do and are very friendly. Plan to come back in the future to spend a longer day there.
Amazing, enlightening, the cast is very friendly and informative
The historical buildings were closed as the season has not yet started, but we were still able to walk the village and enjoy the animals. We seen sheep, chickens, peacocks, wild turkey and one very large lazy bunny rabbit.
Great place to bring the family and spend the day. You can dress in period costume and have tons of fun. There is a restaurant on site for lunch and tons of buildings to explore. Local artisans work in front of your eyes and thier crafts are for sale in the gift shop. Most amazing of all is old fashioned Christmas it is a must go, no matter where your from. There is also a motorcycle run weekend, a car show weekend and concerts by amazing musicians.
We love this place. Staff is fabulous and we always have a wonderful time there.
What a gem. We were so presently surprised at how much was here and how well done it was. We spent the entire day and still could have stayed longer. Almost everyone there was super friendly, really informative and seemed to love their work. We had our 10 & 12 yr old daughters get the outfits and that was very well spent money. The dresses were beautiful, the women doted over our girls while dressing them, and they walked away feeling very old fashioned. Helen was particularly wonderful. Make sure you go and give yourself plenty of time!
I've been coming for over forty years. I just plain like it there, and always make the sawmill pilgrimage. I make time to stroll along the banks of the St. Mary's, it's a beautiful river, named for the original French fort that preceded Sherbrooke. My kids like it, too, especially since they introduced the option of being costumed in period clothing on site. I saw whole families in costume this year, it adds to the atmosphere. If you like an easy but beautiful little hike, head up from the sawmill to the lake. Having come here for forty years, I can tell you it's getting a little worn around the edges, they have properties they could make more or better use of (new permanent attractions are unheard of), and I fear there's a maintenance debt accruing that will soon become infeasible. Different years yield different vintages, as the availability of quality tradespeople to staff the signature attractions rises and falls. But for me, it will always be a magical place to relax on a summer's day and consider how beautiful and distinct so many parts of Guysborough are, while marveling at the ingenuity and strength of our forebears.
Excellent visit, very interesting.
Great place to visit. They have managed to preserve their village as though you're stepping back in time!
Whimsical little 19th century village. Lovely reenactors. The restaurant serves tasty soup, sandwiches and cakes. The many buildings host little shops, a church, school and even a jail. Lovely afternoon with family and friends to learn about life in 1867.
Terrific place to take the kids. Go all out and get dressed for the part. The staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic nothing but good things to say. Put it on your must visit list.
Very knowledgeable staff
Friendly welcoming staff. We arrived with our 2 labradoodles and everyone welcomed us in. It's the original Sherbrooke that has been preserved as a museum. Did not seem touristy at all. Such a small fee to enter. Don't leave without going for lunch at the hotel and try the gingerbread cake with lemon sauce....delicious. Thankyou everyone for one of our favourite stops across Canada!!!!
beautiful historic village. my fiance and son loved it. stroller friendly and baby station if needed
This place treated my friends and their children horribly! They are a mixed race family and were looked up and down upon arrival by one of the employees and management. They were refused service and treated like second class people. This is beyond unacceptable and disgraceful in 2021 and it was clearly due to the colour of their skin. Shameful.
I haven't been to Sherbrooke Village since I was a kid. It was more amazing as an adult. The staff that work there are fantastic and very knowledgeable. The gift shop had lots to offer and enjoyed the Indigenous Art Center. The one thing I remember as a kid being there was the candy sticks and I stocked up on them at the general store :)
Nice village. I live in Sherbrokke QC. Wanted to visit! :)
I appreciate this place much more as an adult the history is amazing and staff were very welcoming and informative.
If you have a biracial or black family, I suggest skipping it. We specifically picked Sherbrooke to take our god children to because it offered a dress up experience. You could pay an extra fee and dress up in period clothes for the day. Despite calling in advance, despite having a staff member available, despite advertising the experience online and no appointments for the day, we were told that we could not dress up because only one staff member was available. From the moment the dressing lady saw our biracial family the excuses began. She gave the kids the up and down look over, then looked at me and my husband with disgust. We were told to go back to the front office and make an appointment . So we went back and attempted to book an appointment. One kind lady at the front desk said absolutely, let them pay and send then over for the experience. I was shown the apt book that showed zero appointments for the day. Despite the one customer service rep saying it was not a problem, the other lady started with the excuses. She said she can’t book an appointment without talking to the lady in the dressing house first. She was calling all around but couldn’t reach anyone. She said she wouldn’t take our payment until she confirmed with the lady in the dressing house that she would accommodate us. Since the lady in the dressing house wasn’t answering the phone, we were told to follow her back to the dressing house and wait outside. After some time, the front desk lady returned and said “we can’t help you. We only have 1 lady working here and she can’t dress four people.” Now keep in mind, our littlest godchild, did not want to dress up. So they were saying that 1 lady could not help dress a 6 year and two adults with a open schedule. They did not offer to only dress the child but outright refused. Then the front desk lady asked if we could return tomorrow. She already knew we drove from Ontario. Not to mention, the park is closed Tues and Wednesdays. My heart was breaking because I have my biracial godchildren holding my hands throughout this whole experience. They are seeing the looks from the clearly racist staff members unwilling to allow us to buy the dress up experience. The oldest unfortunately appeared to already understand what was happening. She at 6 years old is already fully aware of racism and is stronger and more resilient than me. I eventually ended up hiding in the washroom in tears at what was happening. We tried to shake it off and enjoy the other exhibits as we waited for my long time friend to arrive with her family. We drove almost 3 hour from Halifax to visit Sherbrooke Village. While in the park, we visited the bakery where the family before us was offered and accepted some baked goods! We walked in with now 5 kids since my friends arrived and cookies were coming out of the oven. We asked if the kids could have a cookie & were told: “no, they were too hot”. At the end of our visit, we were approach by the manager who offered to dress all 4 of us now and give us a free $80 picture. She apologized but still claimed they didn’t have the capacity to dress us. How can they dress 4 people for a photo in the same period clothes now, later in the day, when it’s busier, with the same one staff member - who refused to help us? I told her I believed her staff were racist and refused to help us because our family was biracial. I told her we were not interested in the free photo. The manager did not seem to care. She said sorry and “I hope you have a nice day.” If you are thinking about visiting this establishment this was our experience.
Great to come back to your place of birth. Although the Frances Scott house is not yet complete, since my last visit in 2006. It was still an enjoyable time. It truly would have been nice to see it fully restored.
Great place to visit to learn about our past.
The Village is fantastic. The staff all working together this last summer was such a wonderful service. The activities for both children and adults was amazing. We were lucky enough to be present on the day of a dog show as well as the Saturday market, which were both lovely surprises. The food in their café was fabulous, and the service was tremendous. We enjoyed exploring all the buildings and talking to the staff about the Village. Can't say enough good things. We will definitely be back.
The staff are amazing and make you feel as though you are part of the past. Thank you
Fantastic experience, friendly people who stayed in character just the right amount
Very cool place
A great place to see the past
Awsome trip back in time...
We went in July, and this place is incredible. The restored buildings weren't moved here - an old community existed here and started becoming a living museum while families still lived in the town. A family still to this day lives in some property in the village. Such a cool experience! Learn about printing presses, pottery, blacksmithing, turning sheep wool into a skein of yarn, and MORE!
Such a beautiful place!!!
(Translated) A great experience! You can dress yourself like in 1867, the attractions are functional, the "population" is helpful and you can even be thrown in jail (Westworld sends its regards?). I do not want to talk about food here, then you would have to devalue ... We printed our own maps from the negative to the operation of the historic printing press. Photography as in the past and in the meadows small games for the kids. Recommendation! (Original) Ein super Erlebnis! Empfehlung!
We had our very first visit to Sherbrooke Village last week and it was a great experience—better than we'd expected! It was really cool to see how things were done hundreds of years ago—and some that are still done that way today! The blacksmith shop is still in operation, as well as the printing shop, to name a couple. We LOVED looking through the pharmacy and all of the buildings were beautiful and so well-maintained. Staff was amazing and we were even allowed to bring our dog through the grounds and inside each building! He loved chasing the chickens haha Tip: STUDENTS - ask for the student discount. It's not posted but a very generous discount :)
Awsome place to visit
We had such an amazing time our guide was so welcoming and friendly
A definite stop!!!!! We had a blast in this little village they even have little wagons so you can pull your children if they get tired quickly. They really make you feel like part of the 1867. You can dress up if you Like and you can even participate. You even get a cookie if you go to jail haha We will definitely be back.
great place to plan a trip to. takes you back in time. teach your kids and probably learn your self. I enjoy going there ever week
A fantastic walk back in history.
A wonderful family experience! The staff answered all our questions and our meal at the restaurant was very tastey.
(Translated) Very nice illustration of the history of the colonization of eastern Canada (Original) Sehr schöne Darstellung der Geschichte der Besiedlung des östlichen Kanadas
An incredible trip to the time of our forefathers. Beautiful buildings and staff in period costume.
Victorian Christmas great night of lighting of the lights and enjoyable high tea and tour following day. Must see in NS to set the festive mood and drive away the humbug.
Nice historic recreation site. Kids like the scavenger hunt and the treat at the end. Ice cream. Some of the enactors were knowledgeable and kept mostly in the period. Well done.
Fantastic experience!!! Great little village and an incredibly friendly staff. I went with my wife, our two kids, my father in law, and his wife. We enjoyed every minute of our tour and learning about the history of Sherbrooke Village and the surrounding area. The exhibits were great and the gift shop sold stuff made in the village using the techniques and equipment that was used back in the day. Loved it, highly recommend it!!
Great place to learn history and how people used to live.
Beautiful community ❤
(Translated) Very friendly people who demonstrate life and craftsmanship from before. Definitely worth a visit. (Original) Sehr Freundliche Menschen die das Leben und die Handwerkskunst von früher demonstrieren. Auf alle Fälle einen Besuch wert.
Fun and informative. Our kids aged 6 and 9 had a great time.
Nicely done. Staff well trained and informative.
Went out for thier christmas special. was awesome
A step back in history, fun place, great staff.
So fun & everyone is so nice!!
Excellent place to visit. Definitely will come again.
It is well worth the drive to visit Sherbrooke Village and spend a few hours to a full day with family and friends! With over 34 business and community buildings to visit and view. Many walked about and building, very friendly costumed interpreters to talk about the late 1800 of the prosperous boom town, by timber for tall ships, gold mining, blacksmith, post office, printers, jailer, drug store, Dr. office, photo studio, farm animals and so many more. Don't miss the real rare origin working sawmill, powered by a beautiful outdoor wooden water wheel. We also enjoy a fresh garden salad, followed by lunch of fish and corn chowder with home made tea biscuits in the tea room. They had a good selection of homemade baked goods. Also, we learn they host many events throughout the season for everyone, like Sherbrooke Village Old Fashioned Christmas. So take time, to step back into time, of the biggest village museum in NS. It was a fun and great day visiting Sherbrooke Village!!!
Liked the blacksmiths and all volunteers were helpful.
(Translated) Don't be afraid to go. Visit of several places. And the store has some great, handcrafted things to offer. (Original) Ne craignez pas d’y aller. Visite de plusieurs lieux. Et le magasin a de très belles choses artisanales à offrir.
everyone should visit here and role play the same weekend...but use bitcoin to pay for the peasoup
Great place to visit in the rain or sunshine! Met some lovely people hosting in the open houses!!
Awesome place to visit for a day. Very knowledgeable staff
Spent hours visiting all the buildings. Great restaurant serving delicious meals
This a great place for family outings. Wear comfortable walking shoes as you'll do a lot of walking. Most groups can spend 2 hours here; we spent 4. Had a delicious lunch of salad (split between 2 people), fish & corn chowders, complete with homemade tea biscuits. Staff (aka reenactors) are all welcoming, helpful and engaging. Special applause to Peggy Lou in the print shop and Kyle in the Blacksmith and as Penny-farthing bike driver.
Such a wonderful piece of history. The staff were amazing!
Awesome place to see the world in the good ol' days!
A great destination to experience a time in Nova Scotias history. Definitely an all day stop.
This is a beautiful little town. Historic and fun.
Great experience for the whole family!
Great experience for parents and kids alike. Hands on experiences, tasty treats from the town jail and fun activities for kids. Staff were wonderful and knowledgable. The folk singing on the hotel steps was lovely. Plan on spending a full day if possible.
A must see for all families
Staff was knowable and friendly. Interesting
historical place 1867... guide tour that by donation during the covid19. recommend Mrs Baker she is very nice and knowledgeable person .
A living museum well worth leaving the major highways to discover for yourself. Lots of great people to interpret the exhibits. Completely reasonable rates or get the NS Museum Pass. Lots of walking on the dirt streets or take the wagon ride around. So many things to see it's easy to spend a day. Not a theme park with rides and games everywhere. It's a 19th C town.
Really great place to visit but some guvermint functionary defunded the budget. Paddocks with signs saying don't feed animals but no animals to not feed. Half building are closed. Nice looking exhibit on critters in one building but closed. Weekend worst time to visit, no blacksmith, broken mill. Great staff but management must be grossly disinterested. Not tge Sherbrooke of my 70s school trip. Will watch website and come again on week day once the guvermint funds the place.
Very beautiful place to experience with the lifestyle around 200 years back!
(Translated) So much fun and informative worth to visit (Original) Zo leuk en informatief de moeite waard om te bezoeken
A very interesting and educational place to visit. The interpretive staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. A Wonderful way to spend an afternoon!
Excellant place to experience and worth the money.
Sherbrooke Village was closed for the season but a quick drive through was enough to give some thought to visit here when it opens in the spring.
Quaint town with great history. If you're there when workers are up, you can see hands-on work being performed.
Had an excellent tour.
Came here on a trip. Wonderful experience. There were many great buildings to see and explore. 10/10 would recommend.
Beautiful !!!!
(Translated) Very good to visit ;-) (Original) Très bien à visiter ;-)
Just had the opportunity to walk around the villages as it was closed today and the buildings were not open. It was a pleasant walk. There were some other visitors that were not sure what was avaible so we helped them out. Maybe more info at parking area would be a good idea.
Amazing town!
I loved Sherbrooke! The original buildings have not been moved. What you see, was actually the way it was. Take a step back in time.
(Translated) Always interesting to discover how we used to live. Figures in the buildings provide us with information about the place. It is impressive to see this village of yesteryear just a stone's throw from the current village. It's worth the detour.
Oh the year was 1778!
Loved this place will definitely be going back.
Great place to walk the dog in the evening
The teenagers I brought had fun and so did I. It was an interesting few hours.
Go black to 1856
Awesome!
I just love this place. The staff are super and the food is great! You gotta go here!
Living history museum; worth the drive to Village/Town of Sherbrooke, Nova Scotia; would like to see perhaps at some point some reference to area Indigenous communities
(Translated) Worth taking 1 hour to visit this historic village (Original) Ça vaut la peine de prendre 1 heure pour visiter ce village historique
It was wonderful experience.
So much fun. Get the photo what a hoot.
Really wonderful experience! Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely will be going back!
Really great experience! Actors played their parts really well.
Beautiful lighting displays
Helpful staff
Excellent!!! Loved it????????????????????????????????
(Translated) Very nice to see, enthusiastic people in clothing from that time who are happy to tell you something about the village or their profession. (Original) Erg leuk om te zien, enthousiaste mensen in kleding uit die tijd die graag iets vertellen over het dorp of over hun beroep.
Great place to visit as a family. Lots of cute critters.
Great place! Good people friend and fun. Very interesting. We planned an hour maybe a little more...ended up there almost 4 hours. Enjoyed every minute.
Loved this place. Step back in time. Enjoy the area and the experiences... Highly recommend the Five Hour Forge offered! Really want to try out their discovery/explorer passes to experience the living history activities they offer.
Stayed at Nimrod's campground. Was a beautiful place. Park people did what ever they could do to help. Free canoes and paddleboat rental. Can fish trout their also. A plus.
Nice place
Beautiful day and staff very friendly
(Translated) Nice village where old crafts are practiced, worth it (Original) Leuk dorp waar oude ambachten worden beoefend, moeite waard
It's a fun place for the kids.
The animators were wonderful. It was a great way to spend a day with the family.
Friendly staff that transport you back to the 1800s. Beautiful living museum that teaches you how people lived and worked during that time. A must visit.
Best time ever I went there on a school field trip and we did the hands on history program and we got to dress up and act like we were from the 1800's I wish I could work there every day just because it was so fun, we really got our hands on history when we made beanbags, hammer, twisted steal rods, and pottery. The best part was dressing up and going to school, I recommend this as a end of the school year field trip to ALL teachers!! ????????????????????????????
If you haven't visited you should.
Had a great day
Nice family place.
Beautiful ???? ???? ????
Excellent setup with lots of interactive things to do with the kids.
Just wonderful..!!, really worth to visit, such a nice and friendly staff, love it.
Very nice place enjoy lots for kids very nice place
Back years ago when I was 12 years old I was on a class trip here and it was so much fun and I learned a lot and I made a wooden hammer and ingraved. Our names in it and we all dressed up in the cloths that they wore. Best. Learning experence I have ever had. I would love to go back some day and do it all over again as an adult. If the people that runs it here remember the school from boutiliers point elementry I'm mandy fleet from that school many years ago. I'm 28 now and hope to come back soon. A lot of kids can learn from this experence and people would respect our elder for what they have acomplished for the life we have today. Thank you for the great experence mandy fleet
Very nice historic village with knowledgeable staff. Working pottery, blacksmith, woodworker, weaver, and print press. They sell all the items they make at the store in the parking enterance. Also learned about making soaps, candles, and a moisturizer.
One of the most complete 'historic' towns I have ever seen. The whole family enjoyed it. It can take most of a day to see and watch it all.
Stepping back in time. Spent a wonderful afternoon.
Love this place. So laid back and interesting. The interpreters are great, you can dress up as well, and the blacksmiths shop is the best attraction. Will keep going back and back....
Best destination in NS. Heaven on earth!
A lot of fun to walk around the city like in the mid 1800s! They give you the option to put you in period costume. They do close most of the buildings from 12 till 12:30 for lunch and at that point we really should have gone out of the historic site to eat lunch because the food at the café/tearoom in the historic site wasn't anything special.
So awesome and interesting
Not as productive as I figured
Very friendly staff buildings are starting to look a little tired and a lot of them were closed to the public . Enjoyed what was there.
It's like taking a step back in time. Everybody is in character and very knowledgeable about the role they are playing. It is awesome place to visit and an amazing experience. I will definitely be going back.
This AMAZING place, brought back many memories from my early years, the more than friendly and knowledgeable volunteers and staff educated us in many aspects of what life was like back in the day. Lunch at the "Sherbrooke Hotel" was absolutely delicious. I am eagerly awaiting my next visit when the "Village" is decorated and lit up for Christmas. Put "Sherbrooke Village" on your, "must visit" list when visiting Nova Scotia. If you’re a Maritimer and never been, put it on your bucket list!
Awesome spot, will be going back before the summer is over. Such a great little spot to explore some local history.
Apart from thr distance required to drive the roads were absolutely horrible. By the time we got there and the cost to get in it was not cost effective to partake of the site. Very disappointed.
Kids loved it!!!
Its a place you should visit
Great place to bring kids
An actual village, not brought in from som
Incredible experience.
Very nice place to visit. While due to Covid you cannot see all buildings inside, the personal tours make more than up for that. It is very nice to see how well they preserve the buildings. And mind was blown by fact that the courthouse was used as recent as 2000 and the jail as recent as 1968 and the fact one house is still occupied by a family who lived here forever. Certainly worth a stop when in the area or the drive up. They also do classes with the blacksmith and are planning classes with the wood worker/turner (once covid is over).
(Translated) A museum that lives from its actors. (Original) Ein Museum was von seinen Darstellern lebt.
Such friendly people
We had a great tour of the historic village. Our guide was quite knowledgeable about the history. The blacksmith, carpenter, printer and the furniture maker were working and explained their crafts and how they maintain the authenticity of this village. Unfortunately a number of buildings were closed and many of their planned activities for their 50th anniversary are postponed until next year. If their Christmas lighting ceremony is going ahead,we'll be back.
Fun and educational.
Fun time.
Very interesting. Staff are very friendly and informative. Fun place!
Great family day out. Loads to see and do. Interactive period dress actors and you can even dress up too. 5 stars easy
Really interesting place
Very interesting village, visiting this place take you to the old time We had lunch in the village restaurant
The lights and show was awesome!
