REVIEWS OF Maritime Museum of the Atlantic IN Nova Scotia

Tanya Cassidy

Lots of great information and plenty to see. It was very interesting to see all things that apply to where we were. Impressive!

Chris Manning

It was worth the hassle of trying to find parking (there was a lot of construction in process in the area when I visited). Make sure to check out the visible storage shelves - there are tons of cool things in there that haven't made their way to an exhibit yet.

S White

FUNtastic stuff! Admission to the museum allows you to tour the HMS Acadia alongside. Great photo ops in a sunny day on deck. Inside the museum, there's plenty of cool maritime artifacts and super helpful staff.

Lorenzo Fellycyano

I love this museum! The building and facilities in it look old, but the exhibits will satisfy your thirst of knowledge.

Yan Teor

If you like boats and want to spend between 30mins and 2hrs then head there. There are roughly 4 of 5 sections to the museum and they have a really tinny mini theatre playing the history of the Titanic and if I'm not mistaken the great explosion (I might be wrong on the second one). If you have a CAA/ AAA card and you are a student show it!

Kevin Gillett

We enjoyed the Fisheries museum in Lunenburg more...but it was good seeing the Titanic exhibit. We found the Halifax explosion exhibit informative but it seemed a little disjointed to us with lots of repetition.

Stephane Boisvert

Scaled models of ships galore. Lots of detailed information about Halifax's history from a naval perspective, including the infamous explosion in 1917.

Theresa Potts

This museum is a fantastic day trip for any age. It is very well set-up, with a wide variety of things to see. Various stories get told throughout the museum in both word and picture form. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and very willing to answer any questions you may have. I would recommend setting aside at least 2 hours, but if you want to go through and really enjoy it, be prepared to spend more than 3 hours in the museum. It is absolutely worth it.

Tamara MacInnis

A fantastic way to spend a few hours in Halifax. I really enjoyed the Theodore the tug boat section and the special Titanic exhibit.

Magda P

Really nice museum, worth the entry fee, we learned a ton about Nova Scotia's and Canada's history, lots of cool artifacts on display.

Philip Copeland

They have a very interesting exhibit on the Halifax Explosion that is well worth a visit if you're in town in 2018.

Dawson Davis

The models of ships were awesome. Unfortunately the Titanic exhibit was missing a bunch of artifacts for restoration. The old radio equipment was interesting, and Merlin the parrot was amiable and cute.

MrBlackroc

Nice museum but not great to navigate around. Price is a bit steep for what is offered.

M DFAR

It’s great if you really like to know everything about ships, in any sizes or made in whole history of Atlantic Ocean. If you want to visit some part of Titanic or read many things about it or watch a short movie about it and some other movies about Halifax and it’s explosion in 1917 this is the right place. And I also recommend you to visit this museum in a sunny day, the view of the little lake next to it which is connected to the athletic ocean is great specially on top of the balcony. And don’t miss the street foods next to the museum in a narrow street. Have a great experience in little lovely Halifax.

CbassPlays

Great place to experience maritime and international ships and shipping history. A great mix of everything in a prime area of town and close to many other amenities. Good pricing for admission and family packs. Havent been there too recently but anytime I've been in the past was always a fun experience

Robyn Lewis

Absolutely fantastic museum. I love how inclusive the history of the museum is, seamlessly including the history of minorities and marginalized folks in exhibits and ensuring their stories are also shared. Plus free admission on Tuesday evenings! Legitimately could not get better than this.

Rakshitha Bangalore Girish

Really interesting and worth visiting this museum. So much information to learn about the history and immerse in the province's past. Loved all the different types of ships and things on display. Usually closed on Mondays I think (or it was when we visited).

Don Hickey

Very informative, interesting and well set out. Lots of information regarding the sinking of the Titanic, and Halifax Explosion in 1917.

S Norman

World Ocean's day at the NS MMA is always great. Fantastic place to go all year round with loads of community events. Also hosts private events for a very reasonable fee.

RUSSELL HENNINGER SR

Excellent museum for of "Salts" who served on the open sea. Staff real friendly and knowledgeable, top kotch with any questions. The main attraction is "Merlin" the parrot, will say various phases and words. Plenty to see here with stuff dating back to early 1800's

A bit small for a museum but it has a lot of good info, and a Titanic exhibit. $9.95/adult.

Halifax explosion, Titanic, and a great maritime museum.

melissa

All different kinds of ships and old things that were used back in the day. Great place to learn about the ocean and history of the harbour and Nova scoita

Jessica Brozic

Went as part of a tour with our cruise ship. Mid week, not busy. Very nicely laid out, facilities are clean. They have an extensive section on titanic and we enjoyed the rooms about the Halifax explosion as well.

Alaina Hawes

Free admission until Aug 31st, super fun enjoyable place to visit.

Nick Fagnoni

The flow was a bit confusing but I found the Titanic exhibit information interesting as well as the Halifax explosion and information on the Cunard line. I didn't know the founder of Cunard was from Halifax!

Ella Kim

Must have experience in Haifax

Neil Frelick

Such a wonderful place to go for a dip into the east coast's history! The staff are also lovely and informative! Thanks Jeanne!

Tara Joi

So appreciated the information and historical discussions shared with Tallis Clark. He was very helpful and courteous. We loved his passion regarding languages and historical knowledge. He is a plus for the Museum.

Patrick O'Hanley

I've always been interested in the Titanic since I was a young child. I have always enjoyed visiting the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. They have many interesting artifacts, and the staff are very knowledgeable.

Ioan Pop

A bit dated (as expected) but lots of great stories and boats to see. A nice way to spend a couple hours and learn a bit more about Canada's maritime history.

Travis Froese

Very cool museum. Lots to read and see.

Dany Filio

Loved it! Although small, it offers you a great educational walk!

Krystle Raymond

We could could not get enough of it!! For a weekend, we were plugging our parking meter outside every hour for four or five hours because we just wanted to stay longer. Funny thing is... it was free parking on the weekends and our Museum trip was interrupted for no reason at all ????

Jonathan Lai

Pretty reasonable price, 6$ per person. And you get to see artifacts from the Titanic ! Must check it out if you are in town !

Rajesh Sahadeo

Awesome place, fascinating displays of specific maritime history with concise but fulsome descriptions.... Well laid out and flowing... Need a full day to take it all in... Only drawback is 4pm closing time in the summer... Uhhh why?

Anoop Chempakasseril

Excellent place to spend a couple of hours. There is a lot knowledgeable stuffs to read. I recommend to read articles regarding ship wrecks in Atlantic before you go here.

Cindy Manser

Lots of interesting information. Not crowded. 2 levels.

Amrinder Singh

Must visit if you wanna know more about ships, sea and Halifax. At the end you get to watch two 20 minute movies in sky dome , first on Blue Nose Schooner boat And on whale preservation. Ticket around 12 bucks.

Ankur Shrivastava

Beautiful displays and exhibits. Can spend an entire day here.

Ross Brown

Great displays of shipwreck artifacts, boats, and more. The Halifax explosion section is detailed and haunting, and the Titanic exhibit is fascinating. If you go to the museum after 5 on Tuesdays, admission was free. Every visit to this maritime city should include a trip to this museum. And then take a stroll along the harbour front.

Warren Vatcher

Great place to go and kill a few hours, cool exhibits and lots to see. The large models on the second floor are really interesting. They also had a scavenger hunt activity for the kids, which is a great way to keep the kiddos occupied while you look around!

Techno Guppy (Technoguppy)

At first blush you might find yourself asking what did I just pay for? It was a real treat. Great displays, great information and doesn't shy away from the truth. Certainly worth a visit for an afternoon or morning.

Steve L

Amazing experience to learn more about the maritime heritage. Most moving displays to me were the ones showcasing the Halifax explosion and Titanic.

Irene Gold

Very informative, and moving exhibits on the Halifax harbour explosion and the Titanic desasters.

Melissa T

Super neat stuff. Kids really enjoyed Titanic stuff. We went in high season. There was quite a lot of people but manageable for sure. Lots to do outside as well. :-)

LKD

Very interesting Loved the titanic exhibit and actual recovered items and you get to meet Merlin!

WonderWendy M

This is one of my favourite places in Halifax - I've been coming here off and on since around 1987. It's full of natural light, it's completely accessible, the washrooms are modern and clean and the staff are friendly and really approachable. I've taken kids and adults of all ages and mobility levels to this fantastic facility; I've gone on tours and I've walked through it on my own but today I experienced it in a completely different way. Today I went with my kiddo to the March Break interactive program where we stitched canvas, spliced ropes and did some old fashioned wood work. It is an old fashioned, old school, low tech place to unplug and learn.

Jas K

It's a great place for you if you love ships. This museum has dozens of models for all the famous ships in history. You can spend hours exploring the minute details on these models. The intricate details this museum has provided about these …

Yashwenee Selvaraju

I was lucky to have came across the musuem on Tuesday where it was free/ payment by donation. Pretty interesting exhibits and super friendly worker at the front desk!

Robb Collins

Great museum that chronicles the history of fishing in the Atlantic provinces from the arrival of indigenous peoples to modern times. There is a tidal zone touch tank full of creatures for kids to explore. Loads of artifacts from the bluenose, fishing villages and even a retired Grand Banks schooner floating on the dock (so cool)! The staff were friendly and welcoming and ready to answer any questions. There is also a great seafood restaurant on site.

Jun Huo

Nice museum! The anti-submarine vessel was nice. There is a museum about Titanic history and also free after 5:30 on every Tuesday.

Carolina Rossel

They've done a great job! The Halifax explosion exhibit was incredible..I learned so much I was very very impressed. My kids both 16 enjoy the ships and the Titanic exhibition on the second floor. It was worth it! I went there all the way from Chile in South America!

Scott Rutherford

Excellent displays and coverage of Canadian maritime history. Especially noteworthy is the Titanic display.

Petre Ene

Has a nice collection of ships. The best parts are the Halifax explosion section on the first floor and the upper titanic expo.

Franklin Lam

You need to visit these museums in Maritimes

Brenda Berry Berry

Hidden treasure. This museum has something for everyone with an interest in seafaring life and Halifax's connection to the sea. I always find both the Titanic, and Halifax explosion exhibits haunting. Incredible lighthouse lamp on display.

Ali

Great Museum, lots to look at lots of variety very interesting. Fun place to go and check out with or without your kids.

conrad kreyling

I love these kinds of places, South St Seaport museum in Philadelphia, Mystic Seaport, places like that. This one is better than the former, almost no one is as good as Mystic, but absolutely worth your time.

Matt Jew

Great Maritime Museum. Good backstory on the tragic Titantic with numerous personal stories...esp. the heartbreaking 18 month old toddler. Good recreation of wireless room with volunteers helping you out with Morse Code. Good display of WWII artifacts downstairs with crusty 96 years old Capt. Jack teaching you how he evaded Nazi subs and how to navigate!

Chung-jung Lin

A decent introduction of the Halifax explosion and titanic. All other relevant back ground knowledge is integrated well. The program producer is worth a big applause.

Beverly Wilson

Great visit. The Halifax Explosion was very informative, such a loss of life. Also the Titanic information and much much more.

Faisal Samad

Took my son while he was visiting me from SK. We both had a great time and loved all the museum had. Amazing time, spend over 2 hours in the Museum.

Sam Dickie

Museums are usually old dusty places with boring artifacts, haphazardly arranged about the place without any concern paid to how the displays flow with each other. rarely does a museum merit a return visit. This museum was a treat to visit. I throughly enjoyed the layout and the exhibits, and wouldn't mind another visit

Alex T

Really amazing history and I didn't realize how much Halifax harbor was impacted and assisted with the Titanic! The staff were also very helpful and friendly

Steve Wilson

Highly informative and well laid out. A must see. The models are a special treat!

Chris Drew

Very informative and detailed explanation of the Halifax explosion

Gabriel Wehrle

This was an excellent museum with tons of really cool information I did not previously know. The ship models were also very cool, and there were also some interactive engine models. The Titanic exhibit had some actual artifacts from the Titanic which were awesome to see in real life. The Halifax explosion exhibit also had real artifacts from the event. Overall, a great museum - I highly recommend it!

David Macdonald

Great museum with a lot of great exhibits of local and NS marine history. A must see! The Halifax Explosion exhibits are quite extensive and I have always found that tragic event quite moving. You need 2-3 hours to take in all the museum exhibits. Might not be too exciting for young children. My only thought for improvement would be better lighting in some areas and replace the faded information at some of the exhibits.

Dr. Thomas Burge

Well laid out. Easy to understand displays.

A Giant Panda

Great location. The boat they have on display is a lovely piece of history. Theodore tugboat is also docked there for the kids and can be added to their admission for a relatively small fee. The section on maritime history is unparalleled and they have a fantastic exhibit about the Titanic.

S S

Wonderful. Enjoyed every exhibit, especially the full size lighthouse mirror, the scale models and the Titanic material. All in all a worthwhile visit. Lovely little gift shop too!

Derek Norman

Fantastic experience. Great info on Titanic and the Halifax explosion. Friendly staff. Great gift shop.

don jollota

The history on display at the Maritime Museum is amazing. The hand-made ship models are works of art. You can see the entire museum in 1 - 2 hours, leaving plenty of time to shop & sight-see. If you also watch the videos add 1 hour, they're worth the time.

Ronan O'Driscoll

Best museum in Halifax. Could do with changing some of the exhibitions but the on-going boat building is an excellent thing.

Noura Daadaa

Love it, titanic section is very small, the rest of the musiem is for atlantic and historic show off.

Giselle Chimeres Karmasandianish

A rather modest size museum, but very interesting nevertheless. It covers several historical incidents with details, complete with original and replicas, to convey the story to the fullest. A crash lesson in Morse code, resulting into a Certificate. And a real size Titanic lounger. A huge amount of remarkable scale model ships. Totally worth the visit

Alexandru Toma

Cool marine museum and a must if visiting Toronto. The section on Titanic was very interesting. Lots of cool facts and artifacts.

Robert Mizrahi

Amazing collection of maritime artifacts and photographs. Could spend several hours there exploring every display. He staff were very helpful and eager to share their knowledge. A must see !

srabon nil

This is one of the well-known tourist spot of Halifax, Nova Scotia and recommend for the people who love the ocean and interested on maritime history. You will find the history of modern maritime passenger shipping lines, mostly related to …

Matthew Pateman

Awesome cheap spot worth the visit if youre from out of town

Joseph Camardo

A great museum to see Titanic artifacts and to learn the history of the great explosion of 1917 in Halifax.

nicholas legassie

Wen to the FIN after party at the museum and saw Willem Dafoe in person. Kinda cool if you ask me. I also went to the museum not even a month ago and it was also a great historical knowledge.

Zack MacGregor

A really neat museum. The ship models are unbelievably amazing. Very educational for someone who lives 2000km from the ocean haha. My only nitpick is there isn't much flow to some of the exhibits so you may find yourself backtracking to follow along.

samir joshi

Must visit wid artefacts from Titanic..set on beautiful harbourfront.

Mia Voss

This little museum packs a punch. I had never heard of the Halifax Explosion but once I did, I understood the temerity of this town. The incident occurred in 1917 and was the world’s largest man-made explosion prior to Hiroshima. About 2,000 people were killed and 9,000 injured when 2 ships collided, on carrying wartime explosives. Needless to say, it drastically changed the busy town. They also have a very comprehensive & interactive Titanic exhibit.

Samantha Newman

I loved this place. The Titanic exhibit was awesome and so was the rest of it. I especially like the other shipereck stuff. I learned a lot of things I never knew. I had limited time here but could have spent 4 hours at least.

Karl Wall

OMG..this is worth the travel and time spent there...outstanding

David Fletcher

So much to see at this museum! Great models of ships, and good displays covering various Maritime issues.

Dave Alex

Five Star Museum but give yourself lots of time to make your way through it. Lots to sea and read if you are a history buff lover. Great display on the Halifax Explosion.

Stacy Bruce (ブルース寿帝士)

Really cool place to visit!

Paolo Q

This is a great place to see Maritime history. My sons, ages 12 & 14, enjoyed it too. I hope this helps

Tricia Lascola

Great exhibits. Loved learning about the Halifax explosion & seeing Titanic artifacts. Titanic area is small, but good. Nice way to spend time on a cruise stop. My kids loved the dome movie included with tickets.

Nina Drake

The museum was really interesting. The Titanic exhibit was our favorite part of the museum. It was pretty warm in there and really busy because there were a lot of tours going on that day, but we still had a great time.

Julie Martinson

Only $10 and a great little spot to visit. From models to relics to treasures, this is a nice piece of Canadian history and there's even a Titanic section. Make sure to go on a day there's no cruise ship in the harbour or it will be crowded.

Maria M

Our family loved it here. The Titanic artifacts were incredible. An excellent history of Halifax was provided.

Mark Brunsdale

This is a great museum, especially if you like enormous ship models from all periods in maritime history. There is also a well-done exhibit featuring the Titanic with some artifacts and stories from the passengers.

Kelsey Ensinger

Lot of history here. Definitely a must see when coming to Halifax! Halifax explosion, Titanic, World Wars, tons of ships, Sable Island.

Chris Johnston

Being a Maritimer, it's a must to tour this museum. It explains the naval history of the Atlantic Provinces and New England States. If you love the story of the Titanic, you'll love the recreated boat deck and authentic furniture and models. Don't forget to checkout Theodore the Tugboat!

Steven Forest

Great displays. Good for Titanic buffs. I have been here eleven times and I still make new discoveries each time. This is a must see.

Lindsay

Was great and free right now. The kids really enjoyed it.

Sara McQuaid

Wonderful museum. Only two stories but they have a small theater where they play interesting short documentaries. The Titanic exhibit is worth a look and in July of 2019 they had a fantastic exhibit honouring women at sea.

Chris Bing

Good small museum of Halifax maritime history, with an interesting but slightly-confusingly laid-out exhibit about the explosion, and another about the Titanic. Good value for $10.

Bijal Tailor

Loved it. Amazing history. The charge was 10$ per person, but totally worth it. You can go on a 45 min walking tour with a guide and can watch 2 historic movies in dome. Rich history.

Kris D

Great museum with lots of maritime naval history including the Halifax explosion, Titanic, many different shipwrecks, and naval history. I would allow 2-3 hours minimum for a visit to thoroughly see everything in the museum. We visited for …

Maria Megill

I loved strolling through this museum.

Ben Parkin

It was a really informative, interesting, and fun experience. My wife, sister-in-law, and I went and not only is it very affordable, it's very well maintained and you can tell they've taken pride in the craftsmanship and detail of all of …

Hu Yun Lo

I cannot begin to tell you how fascinating this museum is. Richard was my guide that day and his vast knowledge of everything in the museum made the visit so much more exciting. From the rich history of Halifax Explosion to the connection Halifax has to The Titanic... Every artifact and caption in the museum captured the story of each item in very few words. If you have an opportunity to visit just one museum in Halifax... This is the one I recommend. Great for all ages!!

Jason Meyer

Detailed maritime history; you can tell the staff and volunteers poor their hearts into preserving history and making it come to life.

G Mac

One of my favourite museums no matter what time of year! Great exhibits and the CSS Acadia is always fun to explore.

Jer Green (Greener)

Our family had a lot of fun at this museum! If you have any interest in the ocean, boats or sailing, you have to check it out! The Titanic exhibit was the most memorable. We also enjoyed learning about the tragic Halifax explosion.

Luis Miguel Gonzalez

A must in the city. The best way to learn about the Titanic, the Cunard Ships, the Halifax explosion of 1917, and many more fascinating facts related to the Atlantic and this beautiful city. Incontournable !

mieke wilkinson

Great Titanic display and very cool to see the historical Canadian Halifax explosion. Good guides he was super chill and had a great beard. Also they have a chill parrot named Marlin and he will talk to u a bunch. Would recommend going

Maliha Qureshi

Incredible. The displays and curation were so well thought out, and the staff was lovely (especially Merlin the parrot! I spent so long playing peek-a-boo with him). We were so impressed by the overall deliberation and super cool insights at this museum.

Joe Garraffo

It's a bit of a walk from the cruise terminal but honestly a great experience. Be sure to check out the second floor exhibit on actual recovered items from the titanic.

Evan Young

Bored? Curious about what the story of the city and the maritimes in general is? Go here. I used to think it was useless to visit places in person when I could just head over to a history website, but after going here, I've changed my mind. There's just something about seeing the artifacts in person, up close, that makes it feel so much more alive. The exhibits are detailed, the floor is easy to get around, and the place is right on the water! As soon as you leave and have learned more of the naval and maritime history, you see ships bobbing in the harbour. It definitely rekindled my drive to learn more about our history.

David Gordon

Smallish but very inexpensive, and the displays were excellent. The skill of their ship modelers was evident as was the passion for the subject matter. Great place to take the kids on a visit to Halifax.

Nick Smirnoff

Awesome museum! Always learning something new with every visit, great titanic collection too

Miriam Schurman

Really impressive museum. Very well done exhibits that kept me engaged and interested - especially the exhibit on the MS St. Louis and the Halifax explosion. I will have to go back to see the 2nd floor!

Missy Lamar

Very informative about the Titanic AND the Halifax tragedy. Not a fan of Merlin the parrot being out on display for any real reason, but he seemed well cared for.

Māḷagi

Located right next to Halifax downtown dock this place contains many historical artifacts of Halifax history with sea and it's perfect place to understand the how Halifax and it's ports grew up together to become the the city it is now. Plus there's plenty of information on The Titanic crash and aftermath of the event. It is also place for someone looking for boats/ships models and mechanisms. Definitely worth your time.

Jerrad MacAskill

Very informational and excellent quality of ship remains

David Bouwkamp

Great museum with a mix of both factual and personal information. My wife and I were a little choked up after reading the accounts of the Halifax explosion. That part of the museum is especially done well. Looking at the detailed ship models are also fascinating.

Moath Basil

It's OK, some interesting stuff, but not as rich as you would expect

Jackie Gordon Singing Chef

Honestly, I thought I'd be bored since I'm not a history buff or boat fan, but the exhibits were really interesting especially the one on the terrible explosion in Halifax. Heartbreaking and well curated. Love the parrot, Merlin. I walked out more well informed.

Melina Krohn

An interesing place with a lot of information about local history. Exhibitions about the Titanic or the Halifax Explosion as well as model ships can be found there.

Michael Nazaroff

Came here during free month. Was kinda neat seeing the Titanic stuff.

Sandy T

You must visit this place!!! The entire museum is worth the visit but the Titanic exhibition is precious!!! Pictures of the rooms and their menus!! Everything is so interesting.

Lil Ye3t

Great view of the harbor from the observation deck, and they have pretty good exhibits. I also reccomend the gift shop.

Johanna Bosse

Very interesting museum. Highlight was when staff member Jill told the story of the Halifax explosions. She is a fantastic story teller. Highly recommend this museum if you are interested in shipwrecks.

Rev. Joseph Ziliak

Good presentation of this special view of ships, their aid in defending and promoting across the seas in Canada.

C. Z

Museum got some nice stuff about the history of the city but it’s pretty dated and old school...

Letitia C

We (my family of 4 with two children aged 8 and 10) spent 2 hours here yesterday. I found the exhibits very interesting and learned a lot about the Halufax explosion, Titanic and the shipwrecks in Nova Scotia. The exhibit about woman and the sea was quite inspiring as well. My kids were interested, but as with many museums there was a lot of reading so I did quite a bit of narration for them. Highly recommend a trip here.

Rob Fischer

Had an excellent experience here. The boats are all open to be looked in, which is really nice. The Halifax harbour explosion and Titanic exhibits are excellent! A lot of interesting artifacts and stories from both incidents. Extremely interesting and informative.

Andrew Dawson

A load of impressive stuff in this museum, great to learn about the Titanic and where she sank and why. Very interesting. Could do with a few more interactive exhibits, but other htan that it's very good.

Navin Rai

Fun place. Has some interesting exhibits. Allows rentals for events - the hall is a wonderful and exceptionally Nova Scotian place to eat and dance. Great staff. Also, there are three pokestops outside that seem to always have lures. Don't miss the parrot!

Mike Broley

I had so much fun here! Learned a ton and saw boats!!!

Glenn Rowley

So much to see in this wonderful museum. The Titanic exhibits and the Halifax disaster exhibits were our favorite.

Sherry Ottery

Excellent representation of the history of the Halifax Harbor, shipwrecks, the Titanic, the explosion and history of the area.

Taiza Araujo

The amazing miniatures! The History of the city... You should go there when you come to Halifax!!

Mark Christy

Good place to learn about shipwrecks and other information regarding the Atlantic. Staff was super friendly and accommodating, especially the guy at the ticket sales. I wish they had more frequent showings of the Titanic information video.

Ed Prior

We were part of a larger tour group so weren't able to get close enough to read all the displays, but we still enjoyed it. We found the displays of the Titanic had quite a bit to them if you looked, and the display of the Halifax explosion help me appreciate the true scale of the tragedy. There's a wonderful deck for looking over the harbour.

J P

Great stop in Halifax for the family. Cool Titanic display and models of ships. Out kids really enjoyed all the boats in the large viewing area. Great way to kill a few hours.

Linda Sneath

Large museum with lots of different exhibits to experience. It's right on the waterfront and we had the change to buy souvenirs close by. Also lots of restaurants nearby. We had a great time here and recommend at the very least 3 hours to visit. The staff was simply amazing. We learned a great deal in the old style «store» in the front of the museum. Nobody was there at the time and we had the privilege of having a private tour and detailed information with the delightful Jeanne. In the museum, there are many ship/vessel models and lots of interesting artifacts. The Titanic exhibit and short film was quite moving. There was also a section about the Halifax explosion and the Museum offers tours with a guide. Again, many interesting exhibits here too. So much history to learn in this place. We were enchanted by the adorable parrot, Merlin. He actually can speak and says Peekaboo. Highly recommended, we are definitely going back.

Sam Olivares

I had a pleasant experience and Jeanne was very helpful to me. She even went beyond her duty and went the extra mile to help me with other site seeing places. She was very sweet. ????

Catherine Harrop

Fun and interesting for people of all ages and nationalities. No matter what age you are, you will leave the place learning something new about Nova Scotia and about what has formed the East Coast culture. Allow for plenty of time to be able to really take in the information for the different exhibits.

JL Northorp

Evidentally, i have a cousin who wrote the book "Too Many to Mourn" regarding the Halifax explosion and how we lost a lot of family. The book had been displayed here.

Mandy Meindersma

Amazing experience! They have a price of the Titanic!

carol ptacek

What a nice way to spend some time at the waterfront. We really enjoyed the exhibits and people working at the museum.

James Sinn

Great location for all ages to learn about the history of Atlantic Canada and the roles it had since confederation!

S Winter

Wish we had more time. It is amazing to hear about Halifax Maritime history, Bora Bora and the Titanic.

Nathan Gildart

An excellent museum dedicated to Nova Scotia's maritime heritage. Also has a Titanic exhibit. A great museum.

Victor K

Loved the ship models and actual smaller boats, and being on the waterfront. Check out the live music nights!

DP Steyn

Friends of mine actually rented out part of this museum for a wedding. It was a great time, dancing between the hulks of old ships and swilling wine from the toonie bar while browsing the exhibits. It was a very nice setup and something I would definitely consider for future events such as a Christmas party etc

Thomas Mlodzinski

History of Canada was always associated with the sea....And this museum reminds you how it all started. Highly recommended...

Frances Seward

Charming though a bit underwhelming. Shame about the parrot. Watched it being taunted and shouted at by a bunch of high school brats. No one at the museum stepped in to stop the abuse. The bird simply turned it's back to them but being chained to it's perch the poor thing couldn't get away.

Ilona Chodnicka

Free admission. Well documented exhibits, not too big, not too small, just right for a 2h visit. What's not to like?

Neeti Jain

Simply loved it. Got to know so much about Halifax history. Very nice museum. Great collection of history and art. Great way of telling history. Really interesting, you will have goozebumps.

Jefferey Cave

While some of the more formal exhibits are good, I absolutely love the storage exhibits. The tools of the trade over the last 200 years are the best part. Make sure you use the washrooms before entering.

Jimmy yediaz

Awesome. The Titanic history explained. The Halifax explosion explained. Dozens of large intricate and detailed model historical ships on display from sail to today. Each one having a detailed history. Plus may more maritime displays. Easy to spend a day here.

Rahul Churiwala

cool place to learn a lot about ships

Lee Milne

Nice antiques to look at, also info on the Halifax explosion and titanic.

Drishya Praveen

Good museum explaining maritime history of Halifax.

Brianne Coffey

What a wonderful experience! Highly recommend stopping here for anyone in Halifax. The exhibits are interesting and well done. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Livia Corry

So educational! We spent 4 hours there and could have easily spent more. Be sure to see the Titanic and Louisbourg films on the 2nd floor. Your admission ticket is good all day so you can leave and come back for more.

Nick Lazaris

Great exhibits on the Halifax explosion in 1917 as well as the Titanic from 1912. Be sure to sit in the replica of the Titanic deck chair.

Mary Rasa

Excellent museum tells the tales of lighthouse amd life saving as well as titanic and explosion in the harbor. Very interesting place. Gift shop is reasonably priced.

jradich1234

Fun museum for a reasonable price. Lots of good information on the SS Mont-Blanc explosion as well as several pieces of wrekage. They have a small section covering the Titanic and it's. Sinking. They have a small movie theater that shows two different short movies, switching ever thirty minutes. Parking is very close and a short walk is required.

Artur Galvão Canal

We went in a Tuesday night because after 5pm the museum is free. They have a lot of things about World War, Titanic, Halifax Explosion ( but when i went, they were fixing some parts and they were closed), and other things. I recommend it.

Marcel LeBlanc

July 2019 - Amazing displays of the Halifax Explosion and the Titanic. Many other displays of the boats, ships and other sailing artifacts. Friendly and knowledgable staff willing to answer any questions you may have. We visited here in 2017, and since then they have added another exhibit showing a general store. Very informative. A trip onto the HMS ship in dock is well worth the time as well!

Eddy Tse

Good exhibit. Titanic and Halifax explosion are detailed here. Entrance fee also included the 360 show. Can not comment on the 360 as I do not have enough time. Also exhibit on convoy to England during WWII. Learn Morse code while you are there. Assign 2 hours to see all.

Kirk Bratvold

Informative and entertaining. A worthwhile way to spend a couple hours learning about the area's rich history.

MOHINDER SINGH

Very nice

Olivier Lacroix

A must go for anyone. Beautiful models and other interesting stuff. All that for free! You will be glad you went

Cheryl Anne

It was fun joining the workshop on rope wreath making. I hope they would have more of these kind of projects year round.

Victor Andres

Well worth the admission! Excellent layouts of the Titanic exhibition and the Halifax Explosion. The models of various ships were amazing! Very interesting read ups on the advent of steam powered ships.

Alf Hopkins

Lots of good info and displays. Free from 1:00 to 4:00 on Tuesdays. Great deal

sola joseph

My favorite musuem so far. So much to see and it was free too for the July and August period.

Nathalie Landry

I looooove the titanic so I was excited to see the exhibition. It was delightful for my eyes. A very plaisant experience. Also, the kids loved it. Bonus, it was FREE !!

Mitchell Yin

Great museum with fun special exhibits.

kristina giffin

If you have allowed a couple of hours to tour the Maritime Museum, suffice to say that it won't be long enough! From the videos out back in the "bubble," to the videos inside, and lots of well-researched and presented exhibits, NY time spent here is well worth it!

Franco Kostas

First time I go there and I know I will get back soon. I am so in love with the Titanic exposition. You'll probably take more than two hours walking around the place. You can also get the chance to meet a retired captain to explain to you how navigation was back then.

Sanje Ab

Very interesting and informative. Both kids and adults have lots of valuble content. Halifax blast , Titanic disaster, under water exploration,Sea is in her Blood ( inspiring women characters ) are some of few sections we enjoyed a lot.

Nathan Woods

Spectacular place to see some mariner history in Canada...

Ashley Gardner

Super informative with some interactive exhibits. Would highly recommend visiting while you are Halifax!

Christine Kovacs

Amazing! Very informative. Could have spent hours here.

SEAMONKEY H2024

If you visit Halifax and want to say that you have been to Halifax , this just the place to learn about what Halifax went through over the past century , This museum is a home for the history of Halifax explosion and The Titanic incident. It’s worth your 1-2 hour of your visit.

Danielle Oliver

A great spot to learn about the history of the shipping port. Learnt a lot without it being long and boring! Great exhibits! I would highly recommend if you have a few hours to wander

General Dexter

Nice museum, lots of shipping and boat information of course, but also lots of Titanic items and informative to many!

kandarp acharya

Lots of information available here, loved to read about it.

Todd Wilson

What a fantastic museum. We really enjoyed it. So much amazing history.

J Beechu

I absolutely LOVE this place-learned so much about the shipping history of the City but also about the fact that it was a major immigration port for years ! So many new Canadians came through Halifax at one time on the ships. Honestly I’m going back someday and spend a lot more time.

Pamela Khairallah

Great Titanic exhibit. Helpful, friendly staff make this relaxed spot a nice place to meander and learn.

Danielle “Lynn” Lane

Great exhibits of replica boats, and lots of history to read. A great way to spend a few hours, especially for kids. They also have an awesome macaw named Merlin!

Colin Heighton

No flashy, interactive materials, no VR, nothing like that. Just simply an homage to the brave sailors, immigrants and the ships they used to traverse the Atlantic in both peace and Wartime. There are beautiful portraits with short excerpts of history and wonderful spaces to breathe and take in the scenery and imagine a place in your mind's eye of what it would be like leaving or arriving from thay port for the very first or last time. History lessons of the Halifax Explosion and the two ships involved (SS Imo & the SS Mont-Blanc) which left a beautiful city in tatters from one the largest man made explosion before the advent of nuclear weapons.

Veronica Stevenson

Excellent displays, interesting history for all ages. Well laid out building with lots of permanent and some rotating exhibits.

Edwin Vonderbeck

This was a very interesting place for the Titanic history. Also had a fantastic Amateur Radio Station. Thank you for the local Amateur club for maning the station

Yevgeniy Kozlov

Great place to take in some history of the city an harbour. The models are amazing and side activities were cool (just pay that extra 4$) took me and my 2 year old a whole morning to explore.

Pilgrim Maslow

Great off season visit, a family is under $12. The Halifax explosion exhibit was very well done and the Titanic display was a hit with the family

Sophia

Such a beautiful cake is the heart of an old man's maiden. The store was super good. It was delivered in more than an hour.

Mathew Duke (bolognasilencer)

Watched a great film about the sinking of The Bounty. Didn't have enough time to explore, so I'll have to go back soon. Learned there are events every Tuesday night so there should always be something worth checking out!

Steve Carter

I was drawn in by a collection of wooden daysailers. I stayed for 2 hours as I learned about the maritime history of Halifax. This was time well spent.

Cristi Yorke

What a great museum. Spent a couple hours there and still didnt see it all. Loved it!

Roxanne P

Especially loved the 'Sea in Her Blood' special exhibit featuring accomplished women as well as the Underwater Archaeology exhibit detailing the work of dive teams to recover and explain artifacts lots in shipwrecks or other disasters.

Junior Blacksmith

Fantastic place , excellent displays, very informative walk-through. A must see for the Halifax waterfront and its history . Added photos of the menus from the Titanic.

Jim S

Nice exhibits, great location. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with the 100th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion in 2017

Johnny V Wright

This was really cool to go see ! Theres all kinds of things to see and learn about . I especially liked the titanic exhibit

Kurt Snetsinger

Located on Halifax's boardwalk. Plenty of exhibits. Features large exhibits on the Titanic and the Halifax explosion. Great for the whole family.

John Lander

Beautiful place to wander and learn about the history of the Maritimes. As a Newfoundlander, I enjoyed learning about the slight differences in our histories as well as the major events that shaped the Maritimes.

Susan Hardin

A lot to see if you visited every exhibit. Pretty crowded on a Wednesday in mid September. Do not recommend Sea Dome (movie)...hokey and animated, not a documentary.

Jordan Green (someone2hollarat)

Fantastic place to go for an afternoon with plenty of exhibits and fun things to explore. I really enjoy the Titanic exhibit and the Naval Ship that you can tour. Prices are quite reasonable and they have a beautiful Macau that people can interact with.

Severe Weather & News Australia

Great place to visit in Halifax. Spent a couple of hours here. Very reasonable price and nice exhibits. The Halifax explosion documentation and amateur radio hands on bit was excellent

Robb High

The maritime exhibits are okay, but it’s the section about the huge 1914 explosion that is fascinating. We arrived just as Andrew began his 30-minute lecture showcasing elements of the exhibit. He was a bit theatrical, but nonetheless engaging. The museum is located on the scenic Halifax waterfront.

Alex Le

So good

Tom McMaster

This is an excellent museum for those interested in naval history, boats and travel. It has lots of great content and displays along with descriptions and informative reading.

Danielle E

I got married at the Maritime Museum in September and it was lovely, the perfect venue for a non-church wedding, including a rooftop patio overlooking the harbour.

Bill Burns

Everything you need to know about the Halifax maritime business. Great displays on the explosion in the bay, the Titanic, and other points of history.

Steven Lascombe

Thanks so much to the city of Halifax for making the entrance free during the summer of 2021. It is a beautiful museum.

Sebastian Kluth

Maritime Museum of the Atlantic shows the background of very intriguing stories such as the Franklin Expedition, the fate of the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion. There is a tent outside where one can watch two documentaries with a length around twenty-five minutes, one about whales and another one about the local schooner Bluenose. The whole visit lasts about two and a half hours and is very interesting.

Katie Enman

As a local, I'd never stepped foot in here until recently but was so impressed with what they had to offer. Lots to see and read and if you're at all nautically inclined, this is a great afternoon activity for the whole family.

June Bartier

Amazing museum. We saved it to take shelter from one of our numerous rainy spells that we happened to luck into. Great place to hang out for good couple of hours.

Nathan Thomas

Great museum, Cool seeing the Pirate Parate as well as all the Titanic memorabilia

Kevin William Walker

Fun - there is lots of local history, and a nice mix of text, pictures, models, and some pretty impressive historical artifacts. Also a parrot. If you are thinking of bringing kids, I would make sure that they were into boats or military history first. Although it is very interesting for me now, as a kid going I remember being bored. The models, the parrot, and the hand-operated engines would still be fun.

M. K.

Shipwrecks, sail rigs, hurricanes, shipbuilding, mutiny, breeches buoys, the British Navy, Theodore Tugboat, a temporary exhibit on pioneering women. Incredibly educational. Clean, organized, neither lofty nor dull.

Simon Ross-Siegel

It's a cool place to check out. Not a big museum, and pretty old, but it's a great place to come with kids for a while. The space is quite affordable to rent for private events too. My mom used to take me and my brother to the experimental farm in Ottawa on slow days when we needed something to do to get out of the house for as little money as possible. It was warm, familiar, and agreeably distracting. I remember less what I saw, and more that I was happy having a quiet day with my family. When I have kids, I hope I could do the same thing with this museum.

Hannah Lankin

My children and I loved this place! Amazing exhibits detailing maritime history and Halifax's role. The Titanic exhibition was a highlight along with numerous ship models throughout the museum. Merlin the Macaw was a big hit too!

Andrew McDonald

We came here to view the ships. But it turned out that the ships on the water are closed before we got there. So we were able to explore the museum inside and enjoy walking along the water front. We will have to try to return during the day to board the boats.

Matt Banks

An amazing place to visit, whether you're a local who's lived in Halifax your whole life or a tourist from out of town. There's always something new to see and to learn about.

Andy F

We loved their extra March break activities, it was a great visit for a two and three year old! They also really enjoyed the current "Canada play" exhibit. We took part in a scavenger hunt and made some water themed crafts. The staff were great, interactive and enthusiastic.

Anthony Arone

Awesome experience, always nice to learn a little about history and info in general. Great restaurant downstairs

Fiona Bratvold

Lots of information on Halifax's history. They had a section about the Titanic, ships crashing into Sable Island & people giving info on incryption on the German uboats.

Keith Knuuti

Very informative displays and excellent models. I wanted to love the exhibit on the huge explosion in Halifax Harbor, but it was hard to follow the narrative. On the other hand, the exhibit about the Titanic was smaller but better organized (and heartbreaking), and the explanations for Sable Island were terrific. My daughter loved the speaking tube!

Kevin Patel

It has amazing old things collection. Which can help people to understand the history and value of city and country

Mike THURLOW

Great spot to see when staying in downtown Halifax. Exhibits and tours include information on the Titanic and the Halifax explosion of 1917. Several model replica ships. Cunard exhibit as Sam Cunard was from Nova Scotia. Unique things like a torpedo used on ships and in subs. Several video presentations and other tours. If you like anything on the history of ships and lighthouses this is the place to spend some time. Enjoyed myself on the date attended .

Mary-Kate

It's a great museum and much bigger on the inside (like a Tardis!). There was plenty to see there, ranging from historical, technical, and rather emotionally gripping in some exhibits. Even if you aren't an avid maritime fan (which I am not--I'm just a sucker for the Titanic), there is something here for you to see and enjoy! I'd rate it 4.5, just because the layout of the exhibits can get confusing. I found myself searching for the correct chronological sequence to each exhibit more often than not.

Joao Paulo Samara

Amazing ship models , nautical gear and beautiful dioramas! Worth every penny of the admission's price.

Rafael Roldan

All around great experience. The layout of everything is perfect. Does everything a museum needs to do.

Harminder Singh

It was a very good experience for me. There were plenty of centuries old things and information about the various incidents happened in the past. If you like history then this place is definitely for you.

Dawn Ledbetter

Very interesting and complete exhibits on the great explosion in The Narrows in 1917/18 and other history from the area, cool exhibit of smaller sailboats, amazing, really huge collection of quite large scale models of cargo and passenger ships, models of various types of engines with moving parts, Titanic exhibit. Must see!

Rick Cantwell

First visit to this beautiful city, walking along the waterfront and seeing this unforgettable museum. The museum tells the story of the first time to Canada to today. Unforgettable artifacts from the sunken Titanic to models of modern …

Leonard E

The 7-day Tour East Bus trip that I’m traveling on stopped here; we have 50 tourists in our group. The $222.50 attractions package includes access to the Whale Watching Boat Tour, Thousand Island Boat Tour, Hopewell Rocks, Maritime Museum, etc., of which this attraction is one of the experiences. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is the current stop. Lots of history to read as you walk through this venue. Steeped in facts, assumptions, witness accounts and artifacts from centuries back, it’s a worthwhile experience. Historical Canada ????????

Julio Eccheli

The museum is very nice, with a good collection and a dedicated Titanic exhibition. There are 2 ships that you can visit outside. During our visit, one of the ships were supposed to be available, but it was not.

Adam Karapandzich

I'm not a naval buff but I love history. Halifax was the site of the largest pre-nuclear man-made explosion. A large portion of the museum is dedicated to that (I think there might have been additional exhibits for the 100th anniversary). There is a decent Titanic exhibit and plenty of beautiful ship models and some fill sized historical boats. It takes about an hour to go through the whole thing. I didn't get to enjoy it as much as I would have because the corridors are cramped for how many people were visiting (We went on a Thursday at 11am and it wasn't pleasant moving around). I recommend but just be careful about how many elderly are dropped off by the bus before you go in.

Lorie Morris

Really cool boat ships . I'm glad I've seen it.

A. Morrison

Very interesting. My favourite were the items that had been recovered from wreckages past. I had no idea about the explosion in the Halifax harbour front.

Shaun Lavecque

A very interesting museum of halifax and history

Gordie Hanna

This museum is very comprehensive, which I like. They have some excellent exhibits on the history of Halifax, the Titanic, the Halifax Disaster, and the Royal Canadian Navy. A lot of interactive material too.

David Bailey

Awesome place for the family we loved it

Wendy Stebbing

This is a very interesting museum It has an informative display about the Halifax explosion and information about the many ships, my own interest is the white star line, not just the titanic. They also have displays of actual boats including wooden lifeboats which are significant larger than I would've imagined. I would definitely recommend it. I would guess 2 to 3 hours is perfect to see all that you want without rushing. It us also very close to the waterfront so there are lots of shops and restaurants nearby.

Drew Vai

We expected a bit more. Not that many interactive experiences for kids.Titanic exhibition is fascinating but small. For us, definitely not a life-changing experience. Price is fair, though, and staff is extremely friendly.

J. Ross Mayhew

I LOVE this museum: its sooooo Nova Scotian!!! Wonderful displays and activities and it tells the visitor a LOT about local maritime history: i learn things every time i visit. Staff knows their stuff and are helpful to a T. For folks aged 3 to 113: a wonderful place to take visitors to the area, or your family... or just yourself.

James Kramer

Terrific. Great tour. Learned more about Halifax Disaster than ever taught in school. How it bonded Canada and America.

Don Kane

WoWzer fantastic wonderful and exciting. Great Atlantic Museum. It covers everything! One could spend days wondering through their exhibits. I've spent a lifetime! I take all my visiting friends down to the museum to show off Atlantic Canada. Wonderful real boat exhibits! Vessels I sailed on in my youth. And numerous other examples I would loved to ventuure a day on the waves in the Halifax Harbour. To many other local exhibits to mention. Look at the photos- so exciting, glamorous, educational & wonderous. It also has model building & actual boat building on site. It has vessels parked on the waterfront wharves beside the Museum. A must see Adventure! Do not miss it!

Stacy Sigler

Fascinating exhibits and displays, a must do in Halifax if you are a history buff!!

Isaac Esikhaty

Friendly staff, great exhibits, charmer of a parrot Merlin lol

Lorie Ercolani

Interesting maritime museum. If you are interested in ships and relics from the Titanic you will like this. Don't forget to visit Merlin the parrot he's so cute

John Garoni

So much to see. Amazing stories and maritime history.

Masoud Aali

It was my frst time there. It's a very rich museum to learn about the history of the Maritime. Highly recommend it! Free admission on Tuesdays.

Alice Donnelly

This is a wonderful museum on the waterfront. Very affordable. Easy to navigate. Lots of boats, models and historical information.

Nikhil Chaurasia

Nice place to learn about history of ships and how they shaped Canada's Atlantic region. Titanic show is closed due to covid.

jason olsvik

Can't wait to go back when we have lots of time to explore

Self Served

I am no ship buff but on a rainy day, this seemed like a place to visit. This museum offers a fantastic display of model ships of every possible kinds, big and small, including tons of ships relics in lightly dimmed displays (for preservation), stories on sunken ships and their lost crew, the latest information on the Franklin expedition, and lots of small sized boats on display. I agree that the Titanic exhibit, although interesting enough, is not it's main attraction, but judging it by the lack of relics is a tall order considering they come at a market premium, and are quite unnecessary to the story. And what the museum may lack in Titanic relics, it more than makes up for it with the Halifax explosion relics and moving stories of survival. Well worth the visit as long as your kids are above 12 years of age and can appreciate it.

Kim Salter

Love this place...great exhibits and interesting stories. Wonderful spot on the boardwalk that adds so much to the waterfront. All summer enjoy the Tuesday night tunes at the bandstand (or inside if inclement) and all winter enjoy interesting events indoors. Don't miss the Titanic displays.

Julie Joseph

A few nice naval exhibits. The highlight was the titanic exhibit. Enjoyed the history and the items that came from the ship. There were also small recreations of the cabins, which was a nice touch.

Kbelo Martins

This is a great museum with a variety of information about historical ships and how treasure hunting happens. I was mind blown with the Titanic history and the material colled from the ship that sank so many years ago. Whenever anyone is in Halifax, the museum is a must in my opinion. Great job guys.

Jagdish Bodani

You can easily spend whole day. Very interesting displays and good information to read

Barbara Urban

Great variety of things to see.judt the right size for a visit. Movie theater should have more seating.

Keyur Patel

Very Informative and entertaining for kids and youth! Good way to spend a couple hours learning about the history.

Diyyinah Jamora

I learned so much about ships here and had fun taking photos while learning about history! I learned a lot about the Halifax explosion. They had the second best Titanic exhibition I've seen. There's a deck on the second floor with a nice view of the harbour. You can also see a film afterwards in the seadome that's kind of like a little IMAX. The cost for the film is included with admission.

Victoria Gee

Such a fun museum for all ages! Fantastic exhibits that'll peak your interest! I especially loved the special exhibition featuring women of the sea!

PureSurvival

Biggest model boat collection I've ever seen.

Michael O'Loughlin

Awesome museum! Very interesting exhibits about the Canadian navy, the titanic, and the Halifax Explosion

Kenneth Carmichael

I don’t think this museum could disappoint anybody. Amazing Titanic artifacts, and a fun collection of boats outside to explore. You can use an annual Nova Scotia museum pass here as well, which is a great value for anyone visiting multiple sites. Presentations, talks, and exhibitions are common here. The quality of the content is A+. However, some modernization of common spaces such as reception would improve the experience. Time for the province to invest some $$$ for a refresh.

Sam Fitzpatrick

Great stop for those wanting to learn about the Halifax explosion and some maritime history. Reasonably priced and has a cool titanic exhibit also. Defiantly worth popping into if you’ve never been to Halifax before and want to learn some history!

Mehul Shah

It has nice history of Halifax explosion. I went there because they had Titanic artifacts. But, was disappointed to see just a single chair from Titanic over there. Rest of the Titanic stuff were not that interesting.

Ian MacDonald

This waterfront museum is a great spot to get a sense of Halifax's links to the ocean. It includes lots of interesting facts about various ships and maritime disasters as well as a sizable Titanic exhibit.

Brandon Turner

Lovely museum! Lots of history and a good price.

Pug Traveller

Great artifacts including titanic and treasure. Plan to spend a couple hours here to see everything.

Talita Talanski

Nice place to visit. They have a lot of nice things there, including Titanic itens

Curtis Yu

Exhibits were awesome and you could really learn a lot about life at sea and the ship business. Halifax Explosion exhibit was an easy highlight. 4-stars instead of 5-stars though, because the museum is not well-laid out, which makes the visit slightly stressful if you’re trying to see all of it in a streamlined fashion and are tight on time.

Sam G

Great museum if you love ships. The video display at the end on the Halifax Explosion is super depressing though. Skip it if you're not planning on being sad the rest of the day.

Yvonne Battista

Well arranged exhibits. Good mix between war, industrial and pleasure water crafts. Not a huge space but fun to walk through when the weather is cold.

Jeremy Heinze

Very nice museum. Well-maintained and informational. Of course the family loved the Titanic artifacts.

Jamie Buell

Excellent museum of maritime history. The Halifax explosion, the Titanic, and much more. $10/adult includes the tour on an historic steam ship outside the museum. Worth a stop.

Tony Sargeant

I am not into museums but my wife is and she loved it, very informative, warm center, as it was late Autumn. I sat reading for 45 minutes and she enjoyed, that amount of time means it must be worth a visit if you really want to know about the area and its history.

Khaled Elgendy

The museum is amazing place to know more about the maritime history and the Titanic crash while you will find some recovered remains of the great Titanic ship.

Nichola Taylor

Great value for money! We spent a few hours there today and we loved it. We learnt a lot. Our favourite parts were the Titanic exhibits, the war time exhibits and the exhibit on the explosion. Fascinating.

Teri Litorco

Incredibly interesting and educational. The Titanic exhibit is heartbreaking, the boat repair building was fascinating, and the history of the Halifax explosion was enlightening. The admission cost is an incredible value. Totally worth the time to visit - expect to spend a few hours if you're into history, anthropology or just boats.

Karine Bélanger

An absolute must-museum! Take the tour! Lots of great untold stories will be shared, you'll have a different understanding of the city. I go everytime I visit Halifax.

Steven Carter

I've been to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic half-a-dozen times and it's worth the price of admission every time. The CSS Acadia is not as open this year as I recall and I hope it's going to be restored more fully. The models of steam and sailing vessels are all top notch. I was happy to see the comparison of the three Tribal class Canadian naval destroyers while the diorama of the collision of SS Imo and SS Mont Blanc were really helpful to understand the Halifax Explosion although I grew up with the story.

Marcelo Gontijo

I just have to start by saying I was definitely NOT ready for the awesomeness I found in this museum. My group and I were discussing whether one of our days in Halifax should be …

ThePeterispas

A nice little museum with an interesting part about the Titanic and a lot of very detailed model ships. I imagined something a little bigger but it was a pleasant experience anyways especially if you like ships and naval history.

Ricardo F

Really nice museum to spend the day, lots of stuff to see and to learn. It'll be nice to be prepared to be here whole day (you can leave and return if you show the receipt). Lots of faithful replicas of famous ships. Information about tragedies. We went when there were a Titanic exhibition and it was great, lots of objects from the wreckage and pictures to relate.

Vahe Vardanyan

very well organized and interesting museum

Arthur Soporan

This museum is a great activity to sneak in any day. Whether you spend 20 minutes or 2 hours, you'll find something interesting to see and learn. They have a section on small craft, on steam power, the Titanic, the St. Louis, the Halifax …

Bobbi Zahra

Wonderful exhibit about the Halifax Explosion of 1906. If you can see this before it closes in November, it's well worth the time. Also, fascinating talk with Captain Patricia Melanson about navigation at sea - she's a wealth of knowledge and experience and a really engaging communicator.

H G

Not a large museum but covers many topics well and quickly. Titanic information is good. Halifax explosion is well covered. Great models of ships especially Cunard passenger ships. Great value for under $10.

Lelya Silva

very interesting place. a lot of ship mockups, artifacts from the Titanic, also a lot of information about the tragedy that occurred in Halifax in 1917. I strongly advise !!!

Graham MacCara

Positives are the parrot, real ships, replica ships, and the waterfront lookout. …

Chakib Krika

Beautiful place, awesome ships amongst them Titanic and some parts of it

Stephen L.

Came for the Titanic artifacts but it’s only a small part of the museum. Tons of very delicates ship models. Parrot is cute too.

Farid

Wow....titanic and Halifax explosion exhibit's worth it

Cool Cat Clayfield

Very interesting, well laid out, great relics, fun family activity

Karen Cress

Super interesting historically and beautiful views of Halifax

Travis Short

Good for a few hours looking at all things nautical. Some great historical pieces too.

Jessica Schlegel

This was perfect for our rainy day adventure. It was nice to have a few movie clips available as well as a few hands on activities for children to try.

Teo Norwood

Very kind staff, extremely detailed models, and we'll kept artifacts! Lovely exhibits!

Andrew Barcham

Give yourself lots of time to thoroughly visit all the exhibits. Excellent local artifacts here. Free admission after 5:00pm but it closes at 5:30pm and you can't see much in 30 mins.

Sandra Sunshine

Nice museum with lots of replicas of real boats ! Really enjoyed the Titanic expo :)

Colleen Norris

Free entry for August! I loved the Titanic artifacts.

SonicGrae

Great museum! Had lots of artifacts! Really great experience! I loved the ship models and stories about the titanic and the Halifax explosion!

Marta Brankline

Dont miss this. So much history, scaled models, two stories and plenty of information. Passes are good all day, so you can come and go as you please.

Leo Mc Carron

We loved this place, with the history of the Titanic and the Halifax explosion and maritime life. We went on a Tuesday where from 5 30 to 8 30 PM it's free- we took a lot of pictures here

Eric Clermont

Went with the kids and we took two hours to go through all the exhibits. Very well curated with a lot of quality placards/displays to provide interesting information about the exhibits.

Brett Surbey

The exhibits were absolutely amazing! I loved learning about the Titanic and other ships. The artifacts they have there are so intriguing! If you're looking for a fun time, dont hesitate to come here.

Raghav Bhardwaj

Visit to this museum was absolutely worth considering the fact that it provides a lot of first hand information about Titanic. I’m not a big fan of museums, but this one was an exception. I had an amazing time learning so many things about Titanic and other Atlantic related facts.

Li Konig

We were impressed with the documentaries on historical events and Titanic, and on site staff to explain and answer visitors’ questions.

ayrton foster

I am a fan of all naval vessels so this museum was a joy to visit. Seeing all the exhibitions and the history that Halifax has is amazing. I would definitely recommend this museum to anyone visiting Halifax for a day or two.

Joe Cheng (joeFNcheng)

Fantastic displays, stories and models! Also check out the CSS Arcadia and HMCS Sackville berthed just outside on the waterfront. Tours daily!

Nathalie D

Bob the guide who did the Titanic tour was so knowledgeable and made that visit extraordinary rich

Gobind Singh

Must visit place if you are visiting in Halifax to know more about it's history of Naval army, wars , warships, Cruise ships usually it's paid but for August every Sunday it's free. So many things to know about Halifax here. Must bring your kids here.

Ray Underwood

Very interesting, with the old ships to wander through and the museum with old artifacts recovered from titanic .

Jon Aikens

If one is genuinely interested in learning about the maritime aspect of Nova Scotia history, this is a great start. lt is a physically small museum so it doesn't take a full afternoon to do, but it is packed with interesting displays and examples. It is also relatively inexpensive for such a good museum. Worth a visit.

Samuel B.

Well taken care of, some artifacts are quite exposed, leading you to believe you're allowed to touch it. The staff are polite, and they have a cute, talkative, colourful bird.

Peter Legault

Great museum many displays lots of Maritime history. You need several hours to go through it.

Catherine Rogers

Favourite sections document the sinking of the Titanic and Halifax explosion. Well edited and laid out, the exhibits appeal to a broad audience, including young children.

Jérôme Desgroseilliers

Almost always closed. Learn schedules before visiting. Would not recommend.

Catherine Kennedy

I'm November 7 the 1872 the American brigantine Mary Celeste sailed out of New York City bound for Genoa, but never reached her destination Twenty seven days later on the 4 the December, she was discovered adriftand deserted in the Atlantic Ocean off the Azores.A Canadian brigantine Dei Gratia found her in a disheveled but seaworthy state, under partial sail and her lifeboat missing. The last entry was dated ten days earlier.still amply provisioned.Cargo of denatured alcohol was intact. The Captain and crews belongings were undisturbed.Sadly none of those who had been on board was ever heard from again. At a salvage hearing in Gibralter no evidence for any theory was found. This article appeared in Irelands Own November2 ND by Gerry Breen.

Lindsay Lehman

So much to see here! We spent a few hours taking it all in. Great price, I highly recommend stopping by. The ladies working the gift shop were very nice and informative.

Kelly Saylor

Alot of interesting historical treasures and information, including Titanic and the Halifax explosion. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

J C

Great museum! Lots of boats to look at and learn about. I was mostly interested in the titanic exhibit. I wish there was slightly more to it, but I understand there’s only so much space. Still worth seeing and the museum is a great price!

Kira W

This museum is incredibly detailed and has an extensive collection of artifacts! So much Canadian history and the titanic exhibit is very interesting.

S L

Great place to learn and experience our culture and history. Friendly and informative staff

Jr Phillips

Very informative. Loved the Halifax Explosion display. A must see

Herman Mulder

Excellent museum, with quality displays. Huge ship models are second to none. Good size museum but not too big.

Shawn Penner

It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to go through thoroughly and it is well worth it to take the time. Don't rush through as you will miss some of the exhibits.

Cynthia Boyd

Loved this museum! All of the two floors of exhibits were well marked, clean and very well thought out. Full sized sailboats with their sails unfurled, Native American Birch Bark canoe, Titanic and Cunard exhibits. Wonderful display of lanterns and ships supplies. The hands on ships communication pipe was fun and perfectly demonstrate how they communicate on a ship.

Daniel White

Tons of information. Learned a lot here.

D K

More interesting than most of the top attractions in Halifax. You can spend several hours here and ahould have 2 hours minimum.

Brian Carson

Great place for a family. Lots to learn and explore.

Harold Pothier

If you are interested in nautical history and particularly along the Atlantic I recommend you visit this spot. If there is something particular your are looking for in this regard, they may be able to help you find it.

Lee Bishop

Exhibits well thought out and movie on The Titanic was very interesting. I would have liked a more interactive experience in certain areas.

Mairi MacDonald

Best museum to learn more than you think you already know! Great for all ages. Take advantage of this wonderful spot.

Karla Davis

Wonderful experience! A very detailed reflection and display of iconic maritime events.

mieckers L

I appreciated this place so much! I'm very interested in history and this place definitely fed my appetite! There's so much to learn. To add, the museum is attached to a board walk where actual floating ships can be viewed and where soldiers in the past took their final steps onto the ships, not knowing whether they'll be coming back or not. I enjoyed the Titanic Exhibit as well. There's lots to see in here and it doesn't disappoint the naval and maritime junkie.

Darren Anderson

I'm not a museum guy at all. Went here when family was in town. Amazing place. Tons of really interesting local history. Lots of naval history about Halifax and NS in general, that I didn't know.

Scorpion Venom

Interesting. My kids (3, 6) liked it, especially seeing Merlin. Some parts are definitely more geared to adults and older kids but still a fun place to visit with lots to see.

Manpreet k

A must see place. Enjoyed my visit. Took me to era of Titanic. Much to see like the first sailing poster of Titanic, stuff retrieved from the sunken ship and shipping history. Much detail about shipping on the east coast can also be found tgere

Travis Stoudt

Went here during my Royal Caribbean 6 nite Canada New England cruise last week I really enjoyed this museum and learning more about the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion and as an American from the Philadelphia area I really interacting with the Canadian staff members they were soo friendly

Gordon Pattison

Extremely interesting exhibits especially regarding the Mont Blanc explosion and the Titanic sinking. You will need an hour or two. Check to see when the movies show so you can time your visit to coincide.

thehalligantool !

Fun self guided museum, with lots to see. It's free through till the end of Aug 2021. I found the Halifax explosion exhibit the most informative/interesting. An hour is plenty with kids, but you could spend more time reading each exhibit if you were so inclined. Lots of full scale exhibits and smaller models to entertain/entice all.

Jeff J

I took my son there for data on a project for the Halifax Explosion. The staff was amazingly helpful and we got lots of pictures! Would go back again just to check out all the cool model ships!

Boyd Hall

For just a few dollars admission, I got to spend a thoroughly interesting and informative afternoon in the museum. Housing a wide range of exhibits that included contorted steel shrapnel from the explosion that occurred in the Halifax harbour disaster. A terrible accident that happened as a result of a collision between two vessels, one of which was fully ladden with ordanace bound for the war The sheer scale of the explosion evident in the contortion of the twisted and torn artifacts. The museum also displayed some amazing scale model's of many vessels. Some of which were displayed in diarams. Other's were interactive exhibits, such as the miniature engines. Simply amazing. If that were not enough (which it was) there was also a dedicated section about the Titanic. Brilliant, informative and very sensitively handled

tattooer24

I wish it was bigger! Being a maritime province this should be twice the size! But still worth the adventure!

Josh Bolduc

If you like boat history this is your place

Sherilyn Youg

After wandering by we decided to come in for a look around. I am not a huge water/ship buff but wanted to see what this was all about. The place is well laid out and jam packed with history related to ships, shipping and the maritime trade.

Emélie Perron-Clow

Great exhibits. Learn about the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion

Krystal Zhang

Very educational. Learned some interesting facts about Titanic and saw many cool war ship models.

Kathy Toy

Very educational. Excellent exhibits. Would highly recommend you visit the museum when you're in Halifax.

Jim Burke

The Titanic exhibit. You could feel the past. It almost made you light headed. Wonderful experience. Nova Scotia was amazing.

Sandra Rempusheski

Visited the Maritime Museum on a trip through Nova Scotia. There was so much to see and so little time! We had a wonderful guide who took us through the museum. It was wonderful learning of the rich history of the area.

nenyo 999

I did enjoy the Titanic exhibition.

bill shannon

Very very informative... the 1917 munitions ship explosion in Halifax harbour ..1600 killed ...plus you learn things like...every window in the area was blown out.. so many people were blinded from glass shards it was the foundation for the c.n.I.b...a must see.

Jun Li

A good place for family activity with a great learning. Suggest to walk sea bridge with great view.

Andrew Yancoff

Awesome naval museum and a must visit if you're in Halifax! They're usually not overly busy so you'll probably have the place to yourself to explore, and there's lots to see!

L mc

Titanic and Halifax explosion exhibits excellent. Lots of model ships and interesting history of Sable Island. Loved Merlin - one of his caregivers gave an excellent demo and parrot talk.

Bruce Gwilliam

If interested in boats this is a great stop with lots of local vignettes but if not into boats it could be tiresome; I like boats and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Kent Worsnop

The museum offers a wide perspective of all type of seafaring vessels. The displays are well put together and informative. The displays for the Halifax explosion is well done and very emotional. While the Titanic display brings history to life.

Brice Sang

Really nice museum on the waterfront of Halifax. Titanic section was a bonus. Had no idea that some of the survivors and the bodies that were recovered from the Titanic were brought to Nova Scotia. …

Paul Onderwater

Highly recommend taking the time to walk about the museum. Well worth the price of admission, and they have a very nice gift shop too! When we went, there was a tour of the Acadia included. She is the ship docked adjacent to the museum and was worth seeing. Some great artifacts and displays in the museum, and when we went in October, a great display on the Titanic.

Lee Hollowell

I was able to visit this museum during a port visit while in the US Navy. I first learned of the Halifax Explosion from this trip. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of this small museum and its treasure trove of history.

Michael Kowalson

Wonderful, informative visit on the Titanic and the Halifax Explosion.

Warren Kosick

Cool atmosphere great place to have a few drinks. All the boats are pretty old be cool if they had some new ones.

Russell Macdonald

Very interesting lots of info of the terrible explosion of the munision ship in 1917

Lance Fabian

If you love boats and boat history this is a place for you. If you're into just history you will love it as well. TIL the Halifax Explosion was absolutely insane and travel by boat before WWII was absolutely treacherous.

Tray Gober

A highlight of our day. A very well organized and thoughtful presentation of artifacts. …

Dawna Boyer-Witty

Such an amazingly beautiful place,,friendly staff. Very enjoyable

David White

Very cool experience, if you like boats and ships. They have a history of everything from canoes to schooners to giant ships. The Halifax explosion exhibit was really interesting.

Sherrie Vanderaa

Especially enjoyed the new Mi'kmaq exhibit.

Adam Power

Terrible experience, In the middle of moving exhibits out and still open. Totally ruined my experience. Could you be any louder, do not worry I am not trying to read about that exhibit, please move it out of here. If you are going to move exhibits out to do maintenance do it during the hours you are closed.

Shan Sayed

The museum is a cool place with observation deck to the harbor. There many exhibits including the titanic. Very interesting history of the ships made in Novascotia/Canada. …

Reid Palmer

An interesting museum that includes a huge number of model replicas of boats of all variety. I'm not an expert on naval history or naval engineering i had a blast exploring with a few friends. If you're visiting in the winter the outdoor ships are likely not accessible but in the warmer months these ships are accessible to explore.

-Alison Green

For $5 this was a total gem. So much history and a whole section on the titanic and the Halifax explosion. If you have an interest in boats there are lots of full size and models. …

Kris Wood

Museums are one the most amazing experiences. History, we cannot change but discover and learn.

adrien1953

A MUST SEE in the city of Halifax. To miss this is to miss a great opportunity to learn about Halifax, the port and how it affected all of Canada. The Titanic display is sombre and yet inspiring to read about as you walk through the displays. I guarantee you will also learn more about the great Halifax explosion than in every history lesson you ever took. The stories are incredible.

Iain Richardson

Amazing exhibit on the history of sail in the Atlantic, and some of the best ship models I have ever seen. Highly recommended.

Chris Patterson

This is an amazing place. It is a must go place if you are in Halifax. The Titanic exhibit is wonderful and haunting at the same time! Also the exhibit on the explosion in Halifax harbor is amazing. I highly recommend it!

Syshia You

Has dedicated sections for Halifax explosion and Titanic rescue.

Fran Buckler

Awesome but need to go back as didnt get to see it all

Sarah B

Very interesting and well organized museum It was the perfect place to spend a stormy morning while we were waiting for the weather to clear. We watched a 20 minute documentary about the Halifax explosion then spent a couple hours in the exhibit. We also had fun watching Merlin the parrot who lives in the museum

Selina Facca

Must do in Halifax! One half of the first floor is mostly about boats but the second half is really interesting and the second floor has a lot of history including the Titanic

Selena Wang

Very knowledgeable and beautiful boat models museum

Dennis Doodan

Great visit, very informative Titanic exhibit

Rick Harrison

An excellent museum, with lots of models of sail, and steam ships, and all the provisions needed to sail them. I learned a great deal about the Halifax explosion here.

Christopher Lefevre

You could spend a day admiring the boat models alone! Fascinating exhibits of the Halifax Explosion, and the Titanic. The shipwreck section is exceptional as well. Visit all 3 floors, and take your time. You will remember this visit for years to come.

T White

Very very crowded, to many people to actually take in the displays.

Evan Briand

Wonderful jodatesto the exhibits over the years, though the staff at the front desk weren't very welcoming unfortunately

C. W

I would give this Museum a 10/10 I found it informative and exciting as some museums can be a little boring! I love the different sections, i went the year of the 100th anniversary of the Halifax explosion it was fascinating, and the parrot was a great add to the museum.

Sean Driscoll

Very thorough and detailed descriptions about marine ships and their crew/passengers... had a good time going thru all displays that I didn't get to last year

Darren Gertridge

Love this museum!! Repeat customer of decades. Always something new and interesting. Make sure to head outside and check out the Sackville!!

John Bergmann

Amazing and sometimes sad history (e.g. Titanic and Halifax Explosion).

T Gid

Brilliant little museum CRAMMED with world class exhibits.

Techwyrm

The prices are reasonable. This is a great place to go with friends or take the family. There is a lot of neat stuff here and every time I go it seems like things change or there is something new.

Karen Gorst

The kids and I loved it and I learned lots of new things, always a bonus!

Wanda Bryks

Loved it. Had so much information. Spend more than 2 hours looking and reading about the history. Different ages were in our group and we all enjoyed it!!

Alan Blumin

It very interesting there and kind of get to know how people worked on ships and about the people on the titanic.

Amy Soucy

I visited this museum for the first time today and I loved it! It's very interesting! I highly recommend going to visit this place if you're in Halifax! It has arrows now to show you the path of which direction to go because of Covid and they make it work very well. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did and make sure to put at least 2 hours aside to visit it if you want to read all the information that's provided

Ray Riel

Great museum, whole family loved it, much more than I expected. Spent a long time there & special thx to the lady & her talking bird Merlin. She told us a great story about Merlin & about Halifax & museum. She was awesome & made our trip at the museum even better. Thx. For being so friendly & sharing your time with us. Must visit again

Thomas Nichols

We were there for several hours. Not enough time. We were on the FIRST Curiosity Tour - most excellent. The tour is a review of the guide's favorite items (and why they we're on the list) at the museum. Exhibits are varied and well presented.

Bill Mallonee

A really nice place to visit. Well stocked with artifacts and historical information. I particularly liked the section on the great explosion of December, 1917. A very tragic event but the musuem did a very professional job in the exhibit and presentation. Also, loved the lighthouse glass!! Very interesting section on all of the ship wrecks. Make sure you follow the history of the spoon.

Jeff Rideout

This is an amazing facility. The price of admission is a bargain for what's there to see. If museums are your thing, I can't recommend this place enough.

Laura Lewis

I love me some Merlin Bird. Watching him grow from a baby still with a soft beak into what he is todAy. ????

T MacD

Love this museum- especially the models. My favourite part is the shipwrecks section. I visit here nearly every time I’m in Halifax

Howard Falcon

Really a facinating place. Lot of maritime history especially about WW2.with a large display for Conard Line and a good variety of small boats.

Mikhail Goldfeld

Very nice museum that tells you a lot of history

Nicholas Senechal

A fantastic museum. Splendid collection of small craft and liner models.Tells the story of the Atlantic passenger ships, battle of the Atlantic, Canadian Atlantic seaboard and Halifax brilliantly. Was unable to see on board Acadia when we visited but that would be a bonus.

Kim Looyenga

Definitely the most interesting stop while in Halifax for the week end. They have so many types of displays and so much history. Merlin was a great host. ????

A &A

We rushed through the museum at the end of the day. This gave us a good impression of the museum and the exhibitions. To really appreciate the museum you must be interested in boats and ships.

J

Titanic exhibit was very small and underwhelming wasnt. Looking forward to see a more info on the titanic but wasnt happy with it. We actually missed it the first loop around because its stuck in a small corner getting off elevator. Some neat artifacts, it's what you would expect. Depending how in depth you go on reading every piece you can get through the whole museum in 25 mins.

De Belder Alex

One of the best museums that I have ever been to. So much to see and so much information to learn the projected animations are fun and well done. Not everything is enclosed in glass which make taking photos so much easier. It was an overall amazing experience not to be forgotten.

Kristina Srbljanin

Great price and great exhibits. Loved the Titanic part even though it was sad to read about. Learned some new facts. Also enjoyed reading and learning about the Halifax explosion. Definitely recommend going if you are in that area. Merlin the parrot is also a great addition.

Sham T

Great museum with helpful staff. The ship was closed for renovations. Probably spent about 1.5 hours.

The Wild Life

Amazing artifacts and displays

Russell Pellar

Interesting titanic artifacts and displays of the harbor explosion, cool model ships. A little small, most people can spend a few short hours here

Curtis Enman

I highly recommend visiting the MMA and having events here where possible. It is a beautiful facility. We were fortunate enough to have our wedding here this past summer before the museum stopped taking private booking in the large gallery spaces. The staff are excellent, and working with Ian Mullan was a pleasure!

Russell Guzman

Had a great time getting to see some of the history from the area. Lots to see. Highlight was the parrot. For any history buff or anyone interested in the Halifax explosion, this is a must.

Massimo Giacca

Nice museum! We found the first floor a bit boring (except for the story of the St Louis which was new to us).. the top floor is more interesting with the Titanic and those incredible models!

Alex n Bonnie Allen

This museum looks small, but it's actually huge. The outdoor theater is almost like going to a planetarium. I wasnt crazy about the movies themselves but very cool experience all the same. It has great passionate volunteers giving demos and explaining different exhibits. And make sure you say hi to Merlin the macaw, he likes to play peekaboo.

Dimitrios Papapanou

Super fun museum didn't have to pay to get in. Super interesting and great overall. Definitely should visit

M G

Some very interesting exhibits! Friendly and informative staff. It was an unexpected stop, but glad we did it!

Matt Tower

Very well done...great static displays of various marine components and a riveting explanation of the Halifax Explosion. Interesting perspective of the Titanic and her fateful demise and rescue/recovery efforts by Haligonians

Amber Hafeez

A great Tuesday afternoon activity, the staff were very knowledgeable and friendly, the observation deck gives you a great view of the water

Paul Pezzano

Uninspired museum that takes a topic that could be really compelling but sadly presents it in a uninteresting way. Best part is the Parrot and the numerous model boats.

Frank Wu

Really nice little place to learn, like the important role of Halifax in early Canadian history, treasure hunting, Titanic story, and of course another battle won by British...

Patricia Medema

This a fabulous museum in Halifax. Extensive and compassionate stories of the Titanic and their role in aiding the ship. Much marine artifacts, excellent exhibit on the tragic harbor explosion in 1917.

Adam Palmer

This used to be one of the best places to go for info on the Titanic. For some reason over the years they decided it would be best to get rid of most of the exhibit. Now its a good place to bring your kids to learn how old communication work. And to learn about how our port has developed over the years. There are models of ships.

Troy Metlin

Beautiful little museum. Lots of great Canadian Maritime history. Good price for admission.

Jon Ching

Very interesting museum for anyone with an interest in boats. Great permanent Titanic exhibit. Very interesting exhibit about the Halifax harbor explosion. Be sure to check out the preserved supply shop. Lots of cool artifacts and smells absolutely incredible, like pipe tobacco and old timber

Lawrence Garman

Many model replicas of well known ships, including the Titanic. An educational place on the history of life on the seas.

John Macdonald

Impressive very educational c The collection of maritime artifacts was extensive. Going back again next time Im here. Very fair admission costs.

Sam deZ

A nice informative Museum with ship related stories connected to Halifax. Learnt alot as I was not born Canadian. Different sections had different information. Was greeted by Merlin the parrot at the entrance. I don't understand why …

Jesse Forrester

Informative, interesting, and another nice place to stop on the Halifax waterfront and take a break from eating/shopping to learn something about the rich maritime culture of the area.

Joshua Clarke

A terrible museum for anyone who doesn't know about the exhibits as very little is explained by the displays. I ended up having to explain what happened to other tourists about what happened during explosion. I also took in the 360 degree movie on the docks and it didn't need to be done this way. I also kept turning off the headphones and changing the volume when I turned my head.

Jackie D

You have to really be interested in boats to go here but it is great value for money and really gives you an insight into Halifax history.

Connor Brunson

This was a really cool place to go to since I don't live in a maritime region. They have a huge array of artifacts and model ships which are as intricate as they are large. It was also cool to learn about the Halifax explosion, since I don't live in the city.

Lauren Segall

Amazing museum, very interesting and the boats of course are incredible to behold. But the BEST past was Jeanne, the lady at the ticket counter. Our 3.5 year old son wanted desperately to get INTO boat. Jeanne ran out back where a lovely man named Eamonn ran a Boat School, which works with refugees and at-risk youth and teaches them to buildbboats from scratch. Eamonn was working on a commission and allowed our son to look around the boat school, sit in a boat, pull the sail up and move the rudder. Just pure kindness for no reason from two lovely people. Thank you ,Jeanne and Eamonn.

Wilma Haas

Loved this museum. Very informative. Great displays and very friendly and helpful staff (volunteers?). Being able to tour the two ships was great fun and a real bonus.

Sebastian Mueller

Great exhibit - well worth the entrance fee. Would recommend a visit!

jamie hiscock

Very interesting!! I would definitely visit again.

Sean Stafford

Lots to see... Titanic display is worth the visit.

Dan Roswell

Lots of artifacts and interactive displays. Staff was friendly, especially at the little booth where you can learn about Morse code. Bathrooms were clean and the museum is well maintained. Great location on the boardwalk too, lots of things to do after visiting.

Colin Bruce

Excellent front desk, even more excellent museum. The Titanic artefacts as well as the torpedoes were highlights of our visit.

William Rodgers

The staff was wonderful and very informative. The exhibits were well made, but left something to be desired. The 'largest collection of wooden titanic relics' was 3 small pieces of wood. The information on the Halifax explosion was very interesting though. If you're into maritime history and don't know much about the history of the region it's worth the price of admission. Lots of good street food vendors nearby as well.

Shaun Foster

We really enjoyed all the models of the different ships and the Halifax Explosion Exhibit was an eye opener for us .

J Martin

Getting better and better. Lots of interesting exhibits and ships.

Marla Nayer

Currently there is an excellent special exhibit on the Halifax Explosion. I had known there was an explosion but I had no idea what caused it or what ensued. This was a great education and I really enjoyed the exhibits. No spoiler alert, you'll have to go yourself to find out what caused the explosion

x z

Small museum with lots of info. However, the lighting and glass arrangement really need thorough redesign. Too much reflection makes proper photography impossible.

Noah Wright

Great Museum, basically tells the story of Halifax and Nova Scotia. Interactive and full of information with lots of models.

Bonnie Phillips

It has been many years since I have visited this museum. I noticed that there was many new artifacts to the display. Nice place to visit for sure.

Ernest Shediac

Alot to see and learn about. I would allow two hours to go through.

Stephen LaLonde

Excellent maritime museum with a good mix of local maritime history (Titanic survivor and body recovery in 1912 and the massive Halifax harbor explosion of an ammunition ship after a collision in 1917) as well as general sail and steam developments. Plenty to see for a full day experience.

Ryan Yates

3 floors worth of various collections on display. a curator who knows his stuff and if he is free will answer various questions that guests have. Can easily spend a few hours here looking at everything.

Patricia Pellegrini

Fascinating and informative exhibits. Great Halifax explosion of 1917 chronically displayed events of this horrible tragedy. Be sure to watch the short documentary film of the explosion events. Also have a good Titanic exhibit and other programs. Highly recommend.

Courtney Fraser

Had a wonderful time today! My son and I had such a great time, the museum is well laid out for the current restrictions and the staff was amazing to deal with!

susan

Lots to read and see about Halifax and Titanic. Artifacts are nice to look at. But it’s a small museum with lots of people and tours coming thru. The theatre is small so I was not able to get a seat to see the titanic show. A/c was not on and with all the people it was rather stuffy.

Robert Snyder

Extremely well done exhibits, not only of ships, but also of historic events in and around Halifax and the maritime region.
