Here you will be able to see all the information of people who consume the services and products of Joggins Fossil Cliffs (Tourist Attraction) in the area of Nova Scotia (Canada).
As of day the business receives a score of 4.6 stars over 5 and that score has been based on 127 reviews.
As you can read, its rating is practically the best one, and it is based on a large number of scores, so we can be quite sure that the valuation is quite credible. If many people have bothered to give their opinion when they are pleased with the business, is that it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to give reviews when these are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Tourist Attraction is included in the category of Tourist attraction.
World class interpreters and fossils!
Very cool area, can't help but feel the place really has failed to monetize their assets. The beach access is free, tours are scheduled with tides, but that isn't clear before you visit. Website for tours was booked, but spots were open when we got there. So we miss that because of timing. After being on the beach we just didn't want to visit their museum area, and there was little else available to spend money on if we tried.
Great place to visit with Amazing views. However VERY boring tour. Visit without a guide for free. They will tell you the place used to be a coal mine then the workers got angry when they shut in down so they burned it. That's why there's alot of red rocks and debris.
I visited in the summer, and had a great time, the tour was really informative and well guided. We went on a very VERY rainy day, so it was nice to bring a change of clothes.
The views are always beautiful at the Joggins Fossil Cliffs. Its quiet, clean, and the staff at the centre are very nice and knowledgeable!
This a very interesting historical site where ancient and modern history are in easy view. If you have an interest in fossils and enjoy perusing the beach I highly recommend a stop. We went on the 1 hour tour given by the staff and I wish I had planned to attend the 4 hour tour. The staff was fun, engrossing, and patient. The last I think should be recognized because young children will invariably ask a 100 times "Is this a fossil? Is this a fossil?" and the staff will give an answer every time. One of the most enjoyable stops on the Bay of Fundy.
Wonderfully set up, very informative and interesting!
Lovely beach and educational also.
So worth the drive for this stunning and unique beach in Nova Scotia. My boyfriend and I spent the afternoon and found over a dozen fossils!! Definitely recommended!
Lots of amazing beach to explore and informed staff to guide or just interact with. Cool souvenirs.
Super amazing place
This place is incredible. A wide-open landscape full of rocks, water, cliffs, and of course fossils everywhere. Definitely worth checking out - pictures don't do it justice. Wish I could have spent more time there than I did.
Free to roam the beach...no tour required...steps to the beach awkward to use...
An AMAZING stop on our journey. Very cool to explore the cliffs during low tide.
We took my parents here and we did the two hour tour. We had a very good guide and all really enjoyed this experience! It was a bit of a drive (2.5 hrs one way) but worth it, we were all glad we went there. Wear good shoes for walking and bring a sweater even in the summer, the wind is strong there. Also be mindful of tide times if you're going (they have info on their website).
This us an very interesting place to visit. So much history learning about how fossils are found and formed. The only that could be improved on is the first part of the stairs. There could be another landing installed so that there is not such a large step up or down for people with mobility issues. The actual steps where very easy to walk up and down with no effort because of the nice handrail along side the stairs. Pretty awesome place for sure.
Great place to spend an afternoon thinking about the past. The prices are quite steep for the guided tours. As most of the local public seems to do, I would have preferred to just walk along the rocks on my own.
Excellent guided beach tour and worth the trip! Our guide was friendly and very knowledgeable about the geology. The site is spectacular. Rock hounds and scientists alike will find this to be an interesting place. Be sure to take the guided tour and visit the museum. Small cafe and gift shop on premises. Hard hats and lockers available.
Neat to be amongst history!
Unless you know what you are looking for get the tour. We had a knowledgeable and humorous guide that really made the visit worth it.
(Translated) Very beautiful fossiliferous site !!!!! (Original) Très beau site fossilifère!!!!!
Had a great time with my kids, lots to see amd learn. The tour is worrh it
EXCELLENT!! Beautiful!!!
So much to see and all the fossils are literally just everywhere you look.
Cool place with some history!
(Translated) It is recommended to check the low tide time on the Internet and go when there is a guide. It's too difficult to find fossils by yourself. The scene is shocking. (Original) 建议在网上查好 low tide 时间,在有向导的时候去。自己找化石太难了。场景很震撼。
This is great place to visit. Should not be missed.
My family and I had an amazing time here, it was great to explore the cliffs in search of fossils. We will happily go back for a visit.
My daughter LOVED it!! Thank you!!
Pretty neat of you're into history and fossils. Didnt even have to walk more then 100 feet before seeing all kinds of fossilized fauna. Worth the drive in opinion. Didnt check out the museum, but it looked like it had a lot in there as well.
Visitors center has excellent exhibits: fossilized tree stumps with tetrapod bones, a place kids can crawl in to get a different point of view, and much more. Tide schedule matters if you want to look for fossils on beach outside - go when it's low.
(Translated) Really interesting. Wonderful landscape. Fascinating geological history. Very good guided tour. Remember to watch the tides before your visit. The guides are excellent. They are dynamic, have a good command of their subject and are excellent extensionists. The museum has a good exhibition. The exhibition is well mounted, interesting, popularized, well translated, has beautiful illustrations and impressive artifacts. It also has an interactive component, perfect for children. (Original) Vraiment intéressant. Paysage magnifique.
Beautiful spot well worth the trip. The guide from the visitors center opened the doors again after they closed to let my two and six year old in to go pee. So nice!
This was my first time at Joggins and it didn't disappoint. It's wonderful hearing the guide explain the history and show concrete examples of fossils just laying about.
I went in the off season so the visitor centre was closed. But the cliffs and rocky beach are something to see. Fossils can be found by the willing eye.
You can watch the tides come in and out. Lovely scenery
Nice walk on the shore, but there are more unique and beatiful ocean floor walks. No fossils seen in the publicly accessible part of the beach. Expected more...
The tour was great, the center was nicely kept and cute gift shop
Beautiful area to visit and free. Fossils everywhere.
Very gud place to visit
Great place to find fossils
Beautiful!!
Interesting place to visit! You should not miss it!
(Translated) This is one of Nova Scotia ’s three major world heritage sites and the only natural heritage site. It ’s well worth visiting! (Original) 这是新斯科舍省三大世界遗产之一,也是唯一的自然遗产,非常值得大家前往参观学习!
Great views. We arrived at low tide and could walk the beach and look for fossils. Don't take anything off the beach except photos. Thick fog and heavy wind started to roll in as we were leaving. Must see sight.
Neat, clean and modern visitors center with an exhibition that provides just enough information to really enjoy, explore and appreciate the place. The shoreline is magnificent, especially with the setting sun across the Bay of Fundy.
Like a trip back through time.
If you are in Nova Scotia, YOU MUST VISIT HERE! This is a one of a kind place, like a physical snapshot of history! Which makes sense that it became a world heritage site! The new museum is marvellous and has aspects to appeal all ages. There are washrooms, a cafe, great displays and. 30 minute beach tour included with admission. The shoreline is littered in fossils that you can photograph or bring to the museum staff for identification ( it is illegal to take fossils from the beach! Please leave them for the professionals). I really appreciate the environmental sustainability aspects with paper bags from the gift-shop, solar panels on the roof and a nearby wind turbine!
Beautiful scenery, wandering among the cliffs along the shore. Great fun searching the ground and along the cliffs for signs of fossils... leave them there!
So much history.
Amazing place for kids and people curious people
Joggins is such a unique place to visit. Easy to find, the trail to the beach is short and only moderately difficult to walk. The view from the look out is beautiful. Great family day outing.
Fun places, spend a couple hours here
This is an absolutely amazing place to go. I want to go back and spend more time. Maybe one day.
Very interesting. You can see the fossils with some effort.
Make sure the beach is actually accessible before driving there. The steps down are currently removed so there's nothing to see.
There are better places with rock formations around Nova Scotia, but this was nice to see different KINDS of rocks and see some fossils.
One of my favorite places to be. Always coming across cool fossils and the cliffs are beautiful.
The beach is free access which is a welcome change from most other tourist sites. Some coal seams are visible from the beach but not much else, minimal fossils visible at the beach if any.
Fantastic educational experience. The staff is lovely and knowledgeable. A must see in the area!
Great tour, beautiful surroundings and fantastic experience.
Interesting, but you need time!
Had a wonderful time exploring the cliffs and fossils. Very informative tour.
Such a beauty and adventurous spot! U literally feel as if you are stepping back in time!
The fossils were cool. Love that place
Great place to view magnificent landscapes and history like you've never seen.
(Translated) Good interpretation center, bring mosquito repellent and pre-choose the 2-hour guided tour. (Original) Bon centre d'interprétation, apportez du chasse moustiques et choisissez d'avance la visite guidée de 2 heures.
Great beach. Dangerous erosion though
Amazing place to visit. We didny know it was there until we saw a sign whicg guided us to this beautiful location. It was a great geological experience and a pretty area too. A definite mist visit
Big disappointment! There aren't many fossils on the beach area. The museum and gift shop are very small. It would be a nice trip for an hour or two if you don't have to drive far. Unfortunately, we drove about 4 hours to get there.
Neat place for the geology buffs.
We only went outside and looked around but they have they have yours inside that you can pay to see more!
So very intriguing. Take the lesson before going out on the shore. It helps so much to know what one is looking at...
The centre is full of useful information and the staff were all very nice. There's a great little video to watch with a talking snail that summarizes the cliff's discovery and early scientific influence very well. The cliffs themselves are amazing where fossilized trees and veins of coal are still very clearly visible. You can touch ancient geological history along this shoreline.
Awesome Spot..seen a waterfall..many rock formations..tide was in but still Incredible to be there..lots of rocks to look at and explore.. beautiful scenery..lots to learn and see. Clean washrooms. Binoculars $1 to look through. Pic nic …
I walked along the beach at low tide with my family and was able to identify scores of fossilized plants that were around 300 million years old. Some of them had so much detail, it was if they were sculpted. It is an amazing chance to get close to an ever changing landscape filled with such wonders. The cliff face is slowly eroding so there is always something new. It is a rock hounds paradise.
Exciting to go back in time 300,000 years ago and see the fossils embedded in the rock face
It sucks. I've been there 5 times and it never is fun. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS
(Translated) Interesting cliff to see ... to enter the history of the earth (Original) Falaise intéressante à voir ... pour rentrer dans l'histoire de la terre
Love this place. I have been here several times and it is always a delight. The grounds are spectacular and the museum is great. The staff is helpful and very knowledgeable. You can view the footprints of creatures frozen where they once walked. They have a great record of plant, invertebrate and vertebrate life within fossils.
Cool place to see
Great place to explore! Walk along the cliffs and look for fossils. There are guided tours and a museum. If you hungry there's a little Café with treats and sandwiches.
You can go down to the cliffs without paying! Amazing views, well worth the stop
Coool
Neat place, although I recommend a guided tour. We didn't find much on our own.
Go see our passed
Small geological museum, cafe and information about Joggins Fossil cliffs. Steps down to the beach to see the cliffs where Victorian geologists first found fossils that later went on to support Darwin's Origin of Species. Access to beach is free but for a fee you get the tour and museum, so at least you know what you are looking at!
Always interesting. Every time we visit theres always something changed with the cliffs
Great place to go see fossils and walk the beach
So much to learn we loved looking for fossils our grandchildren ages 11-3 all had so much fun we found a lot of fossils Great family outting
nice cliffs but no fossils
Great place for sight seeing and fossils
Was expecting more than just small plant fossils but still a beautiful place to explore
This UNESCO site was one of my favorite destinations in Nova Scotia. It is out of the way, but worth the drive. The best time to come is low tide so you can get out on the beach and see the fossils.
Super cool place. Fantastic step through history. Great chili at the cafe.
Alot of info on the spot so you have to put your listening ears on.!! The guide we had was an indigenous habitant of the region, thus the geological history was peppered with personal stories from the region which made it more than just a geography lesson. You cannot take fossil souvenirs from the beach though as it belongs to museum. mosquitoes waiting to ambush you on the way back to the centre!
Wish we had been able to spend more time there, plan ahead and look up your times and ride times so you can spend a good chunk of time exploring the shore and looking at the cliffs.
Amazing place, but BE CAREFUL under the cliffs. They are brittle and crumbling shale and sandstone cliffs with massive chunks teetering overhead. Many small pieces fell when I visited. All those big chunks on the ground fell at some point. I wouldn't want anyone underneath when she lets go. It will happen. I saw no warning signs about the danger. Love Nova Scotia!
A truly magical spot, the landscape gives a feeling of going tens of millions of years back in time. Great to spark the imagination, and a real natural treasure.
The view was beautiful, at low tide we could walk along the cliffs, and observe the ground. Anyone can find fossils every, such as trees, mirco life, and even fish and droppings. It's a little muddy at the shore after the tide recedes, but overall a fun experience
Very interesting. Take one of the tours.
Unbelievable place to visit. Great museum and very friendly staff: go to this place if possible!
Wow. We loved this place. Such a find. We did the 30 minute tour that is included with museum admission. Totally worth the time. Very knowledgeable. I learned a lot. We found a ridiculous amount of fossils. It seemed that every rock had one!
This is a cool place. Museum part was excellent. Really well put together and the Cliffs were beautiful.
Beautiful and interesting! Needs more interpretation and maybe helpmoocating some fossils, but overall pretty and nice to visit. Seeing the coal veins is neat, too.
(Translated) Impressive building, excellent environment. I did not participate in the official tour, but I can only recommend (as a child we had a cottage here). The fossils are extremely interesting.
It was a bit of a rainy day, but overall the experience was good
Beautiful place! Lovely guides, I'd definitely recommend.
Great beach and friendly workers
We visited the museum and went on the 30-minute tour. Our tour guide, Alex, did a great job. Her explanation of the age of the fossils helped make this a very enjoyable and educational day.
Interpretive centre with small paid admission museum like gallery. Guided tours provided tiring low tide.
Knowledgeable staff and a great place to bring kids. Lots of stairs, so be careful.
It's a nice place for a family activity
Well priced and very educational tours. We had an amazing guide named Calvin who was very friendly and provided information in an easy to digest manner without going into details unless you asked. He made sure to engage everyone in the tour and encouraged questions throughout the walk. The fossil cliffs were amazing but definitely require a guided tour or you won't understand the significance and history behind 99% of what you're looking at.
It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site for a reason.
Beautiful cliffs and museum
Beautiful, natural environment, nice little interpretation centre, knowledgeable staff. Continue on to Advocate Harbour and Parrsboro for a fantastic drive with some great ocean views.
Seen at low tide. Visitor center closes at 4. The Hopewell rock park may be better option if you are not into fossils.
Facinating. The 2 hour tour was better than expected. Well worth the time spent.
Amazing place. The history of the Earth is falling out of the cliffs.
Amazing place to explore!
Amazing place to visit, the day we were there it was a bit windy but it did not spoil the fun.
(Translated) Worth a stop for the geology and high tide viewing in the Bay of Fundy. UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many fossils - date back to 310 million years - we are mainly in plants (tropical forest prior to continental drift) and very primitive animal species.
The people were very friendly! The guided tour was very fun, and the gift shop was cool! It was educationally awesomlly fun!!! The beach was their museum!!!!!
One of the best fossil records on the planet, in a beautiful location!
The centre and gallery are really nice and the tour guides do a great job explaining what you're seeing. There are fossils literally everywhere so even just a walk on the beach is awesome.
Views and beach were amazing. The center itself was a bit boring. After you learn about fossils in the first 3 displays then you get the gist of it.
Amazing - museum is extremely well done, staff is terrific, and there are fossils all over. You cannot remove fossils from the beach, but the experience is amazing.
We got there with a little less than an hour to roam the beach before the tide came in too high. We saw a few fossils and then went into the centre and paid to view the museum, which was well worth it.
MUST visit and go on the tour! We had an amazing 2 hour tour with our spectacular Geologist guide, Calvin. He was so great, we learned a lot and we had a blast fossil hunting and learning more about the area. Thanks for a wonderful day!
Fun time looking for fossils.
Really good science displays. Lots of new things to learn about the planet. Walking along the fossil cliffs it was amazing to see all the fossils laying there
Great day, interesting place.
Fossils galore! Amazing views and a lovely museum.10 of 10, would recommend ????!
What an amazing place to visit, definitely a place to visit if you are coming from out of province or exploring your own province as a staycation. Remember to pay close attention to the tides and make sure you are coming for low tide, or you'll misout on the exploration of the cliffs and coast line. Bring water and sun screen! Don't get burnt like I did.
Excellent. Family had a great time. Went on a thirty minute tour and was amazed at the history. Recommend to anyone.
Great place for kids 5 to 63. Nice museum too.
Very cool. Off the beaten track. Walk down to the water to see the fossils!
What an amazing place
If you want to explore when the dinosaurs romed the earth and find fossils. This is the place
(Translated) Very nice site! The museum is small, but the information is interesting and bilingual. We did the 30 minute guided tour, for lack of time .. but if we go back, we will book a 2 hour tour that's guaranteed. (Original) Très beau site ! Le musée est petit, mais l'information est intéressante et bilingue. Nous avons fait le tour guidé de 30 minutes, faute de temps.. mais si nous retournons, nous allons réserver un tour de 2h c'est assuré.
Really nice activity for the family. Highly recommend.
Boring
Awesome place for either the professional or amateur. Check the tides before visiting to maximise your time on the beach.
The beach was more fun than the museum. In the museum, you can find some fossils of the same thing several times so, personally, it's not worth the 25$ for a family for that.
We are all a speck in time. You'll pick up rocks and fossils more than a hundred million years old. Beautiful scenery. Great time exploring
the fossils taste pretty good
I absolutely loved visiting Joggins. I was fortunate enough to arrive right before a tour started. There was no additional cost for the tour and it was super informative. The tour guide was very knowledgable and pleasant. The facility itself was immaculate and we'll layed out. I very much enjoyed walking though their displays and absorbing all the information presented to me. I highly recommend visiting Joggins. Not only will you be able to go back in time but you will have fun doing it.
Beautiful serene spot to view Bay of Fundy Drive around follow Google maps and you can walk to the water. We didn't go into the museum so can't comment but there is a fee. Parking is free.
Must see.
(Translated) A fascinating experience. Take the guided tour. (Original) Une expérience fascinante. Faites le tour guidé.
fossils all over the beach. turn over a rock and see for yourself! very detailed museum, includes a free tour; guide was very informative
Calming and educational place
Great lesson in geology and fossils
One of the highlights of our trip to Nova Scotia. Do get a guided tour so you know what you're seeing on the cliffs.
love it been there many times, hope my daughter Maya doesn't get kidnapped there #mallcop3?
Not much exciting, nice view though
The first time I've ever seen the bay of fundy area, absolutely beautiful and stunning sights.
Good historic place.
We love it here. Baby waterfalls, tidal pools, mud to play in and, of course, fossils!
Amazing place on earth, totally worth a visit. I went when it was closed and walked around by myself, thought the fossils would be easy to spot but after looking hard I didn’t find any. I’d recommend going when it’s open so that you can take advantage of the learning opportunities they provide.
Great place to visit, for all ages.
Clean, informative and lots of open beach to comb. Our guide was excited about sharing her knowledge and made the tour a great experience.
Good displays. Good cafe. Nice talk and walk.
What a great experience!
Great experience and lots of fossils on the beach.
Great place and great people :)
Interesting place. Lots of plant fossils from Carboniferous Period. Wander tour was perfect.
4 stars because it is in a dead part of the province, with little to no other attractions or businesses. But the view is incredible and the walk on the ocean floor is worth the trip
Unique beach scenery
Very cool place. We had an amazing time searching for fossils with some luck and asking our guide a million questions. Our tour guide for the 30 min tour was incredible!
Best place to see/find fossils ever!
Very easy to find a fossil on the beach site. They must be left where you found them. The fossil centre is small interesting and accessable. The beach is down a long set of stairs that are uneven. Some steps have huge risers. Be there between 2 house before until 2 hours after low tide. Bring a lunch and something to drink. Please do not litter.
My family really enjoyed the guided 30 minute tour very educational the prices were reasonable and the staff was very friendly.
(Translated) Correct but no explanatory panels (Original) Correct mais pas de panneaux explicatifs
Be sure to go there when it is open - as you need an interpretation-
Fascinating cross-section of geologic history.
We did the 30mins tour. I recommend taking a tour. Without one you will walk by loads of fossils and not know what you are looking at.
We hit hear on a cloudy, rough sea day. The guided tour was cancelled. We get to go to the oceanfront. You need to follow the time they are giving. The high tide can hit the shore and the access to the steps where you can get back. It would have been better with a guided tour to understand more about the fossils. We were trying to find what it is, took some photographs and the staffs were happy to explain what it is. Kids will definitely enjoy. Do not take anything back from there.
amazing place, the guides where amazing!, I learnt alot about the bay of fundy and the mines... along with the fossil history of the area . the "rex" was also cool to learn about. cheers to the staff :)! (25$ for a walk thru and tour worth it)
Awesome place to experience history up close and personal! Time your visit for low tide because you will want to spend time exploring the beach location and all the fossils to be found there.
Dont miss this!
Fantastic scenery of the Bay of Fundy & great fossil beach to explore when the tide is out... Make sure to check the tide schedule before you go so you can explore the ocean floor ...
(Translated) A great place for all those interested in fossils and the planet's evolution. Next to the museum necessarily book a tour. And then go search on the beach. It's worth it (of course, just watching and taking pictures, not takeaway!).
A site to see !
A must place to visit in nb.
It's not often you get to walk horizontally along 300 million years of Earth's life. The people were very friendly and I love their fossil shirt
Tons of botanical fossils to explore
We took the 30 minute tour and Rebecca(?) was an awesome guide. Without the tour we would would not have had a clue at to what to look for. Even though you cannot keep fossils you find, the thrill of finding them was amazing. Well worth the trip down the donkey trail to get there.
Really knowledgeable staff. Really cool spot to walk the ocean floor. Visited twice to see the high tide and low tide. Neat stop!
Fun fossil hunting, nice walk on the beach.
Very unique fossil location
Fabulous museum and tour
Like walking on another planet, in another time; has to be seen to be beleived.
This place is incredible. Their onsite museum is very informative and explains the identification and dating of various fossils very well. We took the short 30 minute tour of the cliffs and loved it - even though we already knew a lot about geology, we enjoyed it. It was so exciting to just pick up a random rock and find a fossil! Also, becuase we visited at low tide, we got to walk out on the ocean floor, which was so so cool.
It is a place to go for lovers of geography and palaeontology. This is a UNESCO site that features Coal Age fossils. Take a guided tour with palaeontologists and learn about Coal Age flora and fauna. Everyone can find a fossil on a beach. Great Place!
Excellent place to take the family and explore the ocean bed and cliffs
Fifth year visiting. Can't get enough
very nice place, it was too cold and windy this day. the 30minutes guide was very good at introducing. price is a little high comparing to other tour sites which give free admission to children.
It's amazing how nature works! Go during low tide, then come back when high tide begins and see the difference, wow!
I recommend taking their 30min guided tours. Otherwise it is difficult to realize or locate the fossils. Our guide was cheerful and explained the details very well.
Visited as it was on our way. Lots of fossils to keep kids interested and great views. The tide was coming in when we went. Would recommend if you are in area. Didn't visit museum as we were there only for an hour and they close by 5.30pm
great place very informative
Very interesting, tour guide Calvin really helpful, enthusiastic and passionate about geology
An amazing experience! A must do if you're visiting Nova Scotia.
Magic
This place was incredible. Upon waking in, if you look in the room to the left you will see a life size model of a Dragonfly. This blew my mind! Waking on the ocean floor was really amazing too. My family enjoyed hunting for fossils and we expect overjoyed to find sea glass (you can bring that home) I recommend doing the tour as they will point out things you may easily miss. Most notable among these being the millipede tracks.
Absolutely love this place. Always new fossils being uncovered by the world's highest tides. Every kilometer of shoreline travels a million years in time.
Beautiful place you will find fossils
Very interesting. 30 minute guided tour is included with ticket. There are also 2 and 4 hour tours available.
Very glad we went
Absolutely a must see attraction. Walk along the floor of the Bay of Fundy at low tide, and discover fossils from the coal age. Our interpretive guide was very knowledgeable, patient and informative. One of the best attractions in Maritime Canada.
Very interesting A must visit if anywhere near
A hidden jem for the whole family. beautiful scenery and fossils!,,
Underwhelming.
Lots of rocks
A tad dissapointed that the big trunk was moved inside, it is still very spectacular to walk through time. Also bonus points if you can spot fossils outside on the beach.
Amazing place to walk on the beach in search of sea glass .peaceful place to go
Cool History, small museum, but had some neat fossils and good info about them.
Great customer service! We really enjoyed the hands on experience and exploration of the fossils!
Great museum and tour guides are great!
Absolutely fascinating. There are fossils everywhere! Reminder though: you mustn't take any with you.
A place you will remember
Beautiful Place. Very interesting and fun walk along the beach, discovering fossils and rocks that you don't usually see.
Cool place
Such an interesting place and it's fun to watch the tide roll in - quickly
Spent hours here fossil hunting with the family after a brief 30 min guided tour. Got lucky and had a clear, fog-less day, but next time we'll come prepared with a light rain jacket or pullover for the colder, wetter days that are more typical (according to our tour guide) at Joggins.
A very cool site. They offer wonderful tour experiences with a guide who can offer a wealth of knowledge. The wind was whipping when we visited!
Fascinating look at history and science in action. Take a guided tour of the cliffs to see fossils from the Carboniferous period.
Fantastic views. First class venue and staff were terrific!
Amazing place to visit.
This is a really cool place to visit. Drove in from Halifax for the day to have a look at the fossils. There are a good number. Probably the most impressive were the big fossilized tree trunks, which could be seen in a few places. We took a guided tour which I would recommend because you can learn about what each fossil is. The other neat thing was the variety of rocks that can be found on the beaches. Some wonderful colours. Definitely a must-see if you're in Nova Scotia
Had so much fun, my toddler loved it. There's a rock maze before going to the beach, found lots of small fossils. Building was closed to covid
Fascinating and informative
Amazing!! Had a great tour and walkabout.
(Translated) Wonderful site to visit at low tide. (Original) Merveilleux site à visiter à marée basse.
Very interesting place. Lots of historical information and samples plus a guided tour of the brach/cliffs pointing out fossils.
Fascinating exhibits and knowledgeable staff make this an educational and fun glimpse into the history of the planet
the 30 minute guided tour should focus more on the fossils rather then the history of the coal seam and sustainability of the building.
Great place! Going down to the rocks is by donation, the rocks are beautiful and there are pieces of fossilized trees on the ground
Amazing fossils. The 30 minute tour was great, but if we go again (with an older child), I would want to take the two hour tour. If you like looking for fossils (and you don't actually have to look that hard - they are plentiful and fairly easy to spot) this is someplace you won't want to miss. The museum inside the visitors center is informative and has a selection of some very cool fossils and one of the best videos I've seen in a museum (engaging, informative without being too full of uninteresting details, and actually kept my toddler's attention so well that he watched it in French after we watched it in English). Before you go, make sure to check the tide tables - you want to make sure to go when you can get down to the beach.
(Translated) Unfortunately there at the wrong time. Right at the height of the tide. Unfortunately we didn't have time to wait as we were just passing through. However, the landscape is beautiful and the visitor center is also something. Everything looks very neat and well maintained. There are various information boards that provide information about the place and its special conditions. Well worth a visit if you're interested in fossils and the past.
A must see. everytime I'm on the east coast
Excellent experience! The tour guides are very knowledgeable and give a great tour of the area. Very interesting natural history site. You can even find your own fossils and get the guide to tell you about them. It's a lot of fun!
(Translated) Fossil site. Interesting and informative visit. Choice of a short 30 minute tour included in the admission price or a visit of hours for an additional cost. (Original) Site de fossiles. Cool stuff
Great place to go. Lots of interesting displays. Guided tours to the beach are on going throughout their open hours.
A fun and very inexpensive way to spend the day with your family lots of Adventures in the area. So much fun when you actually find a fossil on the beach
Excellent Info Centre and tours on the ground. Seeing layers of the earth's history that are 300 million years old, is so interesting. We humans have been here for a Nano second!Their season is winding up now. (Mid October)
Super interesting recommend going at lowest tide, got to see a few fossilized trees and a bunch of hermit crabs on the beach.
So cool. Worth the drive. I wish I had more time here
Just went on a rainy day. Theres a nice hike along the shore. Nice welcome centre and excellent staff.
Amazing place! If you are into fossils at all, this place could be rated ten stars out of 5. It's that good. Do the tour!
Kids loved walking the shore line looking for fossils.
Earth's history in real fossils.
It was interesting but i thought it was larger
Very good and knowledable tour guide
First time back since Covid, and still a delight. Far fewer visitors and large tours currently not held; you can still have a smaller, guided experience. I do recommend that for first time visitors as there is so much you miss out on from lack of knowledge; these cliffs and the area are fascinating from the historic standpoints of both centuries AND eons ago. The ocean floor is different from Burntcoat Head - still very red overall, but much more stones and less silt. More rocky yet very different from Hopewell Rocks ocean floor, too. Fascinating seepage out of the Cliffs that in several areas forms a respectable stream out to the receeded tide waters. There's also an interesting point quite near the stairs where a clearly visible vein of rock angles down the side of the cliff and can be seen to continue in a sliced line well along the ocean floor. Another place right by the stairs shows the undulated rock created by immense pressures during formation eons ago. The ocean floor here is largely rocky, and the surf sounds nearly unvaried; a constant white noise of impressive consistency. Those who cannot manage steps will still enjoy the sight from the top area. The museum is fascinating. Outdoors there is a lovely lawn with picnic tables, a play area for young explorers and a labyrinth for those wanting to walk and unable to climb (a lot!) of stairs.
We did not find any fossils but it was still nice to be close to the ocean.
Quite interesting; learned a lot of new things. This is definitely a good experience for young kids who are curious about the world around them.
Cool museum. Lots of fossils on the beach to find. A little pricey for a family of 5
(Translated) Interesting (Original) Intéressant
Very interesting guided 2hr tour. You must be prepared to climb stairs and walk on uneven ground.
Great half hour tour. Steep stairs and cramped walkway to the tour!!
It's a cool place to check out but it was hard to spot some of the items that the museum above displayed. Maybe an annotated map outside of some sort.
Took my family there loved visit very much for hours and hours finding fossils and looking at the millions of your old history in the cliffs
Great site and information. Dana provided the tour information. He was very knowledgeable.
I was hoping to get some fossils. You can't...
Had the whole place to myself. A mystical place to visit.
We just looked around outside!
I was kinda pushed into going and I am glad that I went . We made it for the guided tour and waked on the beach before the tide arrived. A must see, and bring the kids
This is a must see. Remember to check the ocean tide schedules before heading to this park.
Same as all rocky beaches
A great place to take your kids. We all loved exploring the beach and spending time in the museum.
Come early and wear a jacket.
Small. Interesting. Wish there was more to it.
Thumbs up
Great place
Beautiful although in the middle of no where...seriously. worth the drive though if visiting the bay of fundy area- about 2.5 hours from fundy national and aside from passing through moncton (which has everything) you will not pass a gas station, resturant or bathroom of any sort- plan wisely if traveling with kids!). The tour was ok and the guide pointed out fossils we may have missed, but I would explore independently if I were to return. If you are really into geologic time lines/rocks/fossils I would recommend this. Kids did ok but not the most exciting place we could have taken them... 5 stars for mother nature though- it is a truly unique location with over 350 million years exposed.
such a special place! amazing how easy it was to see the worlds history on one beach! museum was great.
super lame. huge waste of tax payers money
Fascinating and fun. Incredible setting.
Walking among ages past. Awesome.
It's a great place to go ,you have a wonderful view and we enjoyed our time there very much
The fossil beach walk was very enjoyable. Everyone with us ( children and adults) were able to find real fossils. The tour I did feel was worth the price to help understand what you were actually looking at. The site is a UNESCO site but is certainly steeped in the philosophy of evolution and does miss some basic science.
Very interesting museum with very cool cliffs to explore for all kinds of fossils.
Oldest dinosaur fossils in the world!
A real joy to visit. Lovely scenery and fossils.
Not the site to visit if you're looking for dinosaurs. These fossils predate them. Lots of good information and fossils to view and the possibility of finding your own, although you can't keep them. Do the tour so you know what you are looking at.
Amazing place.bring picnic lunch and kites!
Went at low tide. Found lots of fossils...very good tour! Amazing beach
Was a beautiful day of Joggins. Went with family. We didnt do the tour but still had a great time wondering the beach. Came at the best time when tide was out. Then went and enjoyed lunch up the road at Bayview/Margie's
Loved it,, so amazingly beautiful . Was such a great tour guide.
Loved it. Amazing beach and museum. Wish we got there before the tide started coming in.
Enjoyed the visit. It's a bit out of the way but the cliffs were great. Last guided tour is at 1pm at least in September. If you are a rock hound it is a must.
We arrived about an hour and 15 minutes before high tide and paid admission to the place but the employee never told us that you should arrive at least two hours before because access to the beach is limited due to the tide. Went down to the cliffs but saw NO fossils. In addition, many people never paid admission for access. The museum is okay but small. There are mostly displays. This place was not convenient to get to.
Fantastic place for adventure! Plan to stay and walk the beach after visiting the fossil center and taking a tour. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Thoroughly enjoyed this UNESCO site. Highly educational and eye opening concerning the age of the earth and the carboniferous age. Beautiful scenery surrounding the area. Friendly staff.
Nice place to go. Guide was great. Very educational. Good experience for kids and adults. My daughter an I really enjoyed it.
Beautiful walk in time at the ocean bottom discovering fossils
The guided tours are fun and informative. Try to get some time to yourself for some fossil hunting!
Lots to see do and learn.
Love this place ❤ its my home town and always loved the ocean and walking around the beach ⛱
Always amazing! A joy to go and discover the beach any time of the year! There is no Beach access from the fossil center during winter, you must travel north about 5 minutes. Good luck, have fun!!
We visited during both high tide and low tide. Absolutely stunning both times!
The view!, great walk, windy but warm.
Learned lots about this time period in earth's history
I've done both the guided tour (which includes alot of sights of fossils you might miss otherwise. .historical information on the area and eras ...pleasant guides...tour of the museum. ..and can be half hour or multi houred depending on what you pick; to me it's worth the price) and I recently did a tour self guided with my boyfriend. ..I was able to point out some fossils and explain a little about the trees that used to grow there. We also had some seaglass finds on our stroll up and down the beach....I always love the rocks and cliffs and the excitement of seeing the fossils from thousands of years before my time.
Really great fossils, and you can find dozens just walking the beach at low tide! We took the 2 hour tour and had a great guide. He took us all around the site and explained the history, science and economics of the area. Very fascinating! It does got a little chilly being right on the ocean so you should definitely bring a jacket and hat with you. Also you must know when low tide is, since the tide can rise up to 15 meters (45 feet) and will completely cover up all the fossils and rocks at high tide. The interpretive center is very nice and has lots of the history of the area along with great samples of some fossils. Although the Cafe was not open when we were there the menu looked good and the washrooms were clean (plus there was a coprolite display in front of them!) TLDR- really nice building, great fossils and views and an awesome tour. Definitely recommend!
Beautiful. Recommend taking the tour so you know what youre looking for. Kids were a little disappointed in the types of fossils (Jurassic Park Fans), but still a great look at the geology and formations of the Bay of Fundy.
Fascinating trip through time, both short- and long-term....we arrived (by plan) at low tide, took the 30-min. tour, and came back at high tide to see the amazing Fundy effect. The cliff is exposed rocks that are hundreds of millions of years old. The guide showed us fossils that were literally underfoot. A great adventure!
A must if nearby, go there at low tide preferably
Tour the beach with a personable guide who reveals animal formations from millions of years ago. Search for your own rocks with messages from long ago. An enjoyable time. Children will enjoy the shorter tour. Reasonable.
Nowhere else in the world like it! It's amazing to physically be able to walk through history and see the fossils right in front of your eyes. Our guide was so knowledgable and had incredible stories about growing up in the area. It's the perfet place to get not only children, but people of all ages interested in geology.
Its so interesting to see how time has shaped those rocks.
Great place
Interesting museum containing fossils and some local coal mining history. Main feature is a guided walk on the beach–so plan your visit to be there at a low or moderate tidal level. No beach tours were available when we visited, but we could visit the beach on our own. A significant flight of stairs leads to the beach, which might be a challenge for geezers (like me)—I managed, but probably could not have kept up with a guided tour on the stairs and rough unstable rocky beach. But, (at least when on your own) you don’t have to walk more than 50' from the base of the stairs—almost every rock contains a fascinating fossil. Nominally, you cannot collect any fossils.
This place rocks!!! ... Staff are awesome ... Clean ... A must see!
Beautiful area and well worth visit. Need to invest in a generator. Lots of tourists there after Dorian passed by and facility closed, disappointing.
Too expensive and nothing to do if you don't take one of the tours. Which seem too short or too long. Not impressed.
Amazing place and fun for the whole family. It's like going back in time.
Interesting spot if you enjoy fossils..well laid out with opportunity to go to beach and do some fossil hunting ( following rules) good idea to go at low tide..
Nice place to visit
(Translated) Interesting places for fossil research (Original) Lieux intéressants pour la recherche de fossil
Disappointing. We unfortunately were unable to coordinate our visit during a low-tide so couldn't experience one of the 'fossil tours' on the beach below. We knew this though and thought the on-site exhibits would still be worthwhile. This is not the case. The exhibits were sparse, low-information and really rudimentary. In short, if you can't time your visit to coincide with a beach fossil tour, then don't even bother. Way over-priced for the exhibits on offer.
The walk with Mel the geologist was completely worth the investment. Learned so much. Absolutely amazing vista. Get there for low tide!
Very interesting. Bay of fundy is beautiful
Despite the rocky start to our visit it was worth it. If nothing else, there is some great scenery to see. Just don't expect to find any dinosaur fossils. It is mainly plant stuff that you will find.
If you like rocks or fossils or history from 312 million years ago - this is the beach for you! Highly recommend the tour - very knowledgeable & personable. The kids on our tour had a great time. Excellent for all ages.
Very nice place to see fossils and collect seaglasses
(Translated) Very interesting for the whole family. Absolutely take the free 30-minute guided tour starting to fully enjoy. Guided tours of 2 hours and more available with reservation only. Well worth a visit. (Original) Très intéressant pour toute la famille. Absolument prendre le tour guidé gratuit de 30 minutes en commençant pour pleinement apprécier. Tours guidés de 2 heures et plus disponibles avec réservation seulement. Vaut vraiment le détour.
Interesting but not very spectacular. Even without the guided tour you will find fossils when you walk along the cliffs.
Outstanding museum, docents, and tour!
One of the greatest places on earth to view sedimentary fossils and rocks
Great place to find fossils and great learning experience for kids
Alex was a great guide and this spot is very interesting.
Very beautiful
Just amazing. Take a guided tour or you're going to miss a lot of what is lying right there in front of you
Meh...
Cool place
Good attraction, if you are really into science and fossils
We went here to stretch our legs, although not really on course. We were able to enter the cliff side for free, a fee is paid to enter the museum and for guided tours. We brought our small dog along. Walked the beaches and cliff side. Really cool to see and read the info panels on the path down. Not accessible, lots of stairs down to the cliff side.
Great spot to stop with the kids ! They loved finding fossils and cool rocks ! And a spectacular view
Great place to visit
I loved it. Seeing the layers of history and the various fossils was incredible. Sadly, it was lost on my 10 and 13 year olds. (Today's generation only care about the tech.)
great way to see fossils and the bay
Beautiful
This is a once in a lifetime experience. The exhibits are great and getting down to the cliff and check out the rocks yourself is something you don't want to miss.
Lovely views and nice beach!
We had no idea what to expect but really enjoyed ourselves once we got there. We took the short guided tour. Love the family pricing. It was a little out of the way on our trip, but worth it.
Very nice place to visit the walk along the ocean is breezy you need a jacket really interesting
Unbelievable place, completely deserving to be UNESCO protected!
Beautiful and full of fossils. Found some fossil footprints
Good learning experience, make sure you plan your visit at low tide.
Walk on the ocean floor and maybe find a fossil, like l did today.
Excellent place to visit
Vert interresting. Must walk on beach. Avoid high Tide (2 hours before and after).
Interesting and great if you love beach combing!
A fascinating look into our geological past.
(Translated) Very interesting, bilingual museum, very ineressant that speaks of the pre-dinosaur period. Possibility to find fossils everywhere on the beach. Good price 10 $ 50 / adult. Possibility of eating your picnic (Original) Tres intéressant, musee bilingue, tres ineressant qui parle de la periode pré dinosaure. Possibilité de trouver des fossile partout sur la plage. Bon prix 10$50/ adulte. Possibilite d'y nanger votre pique nique
Amazing
Breathtaking and a wonderful learning experience. Make sure to take a guided tour
Very interesting museum that documents and displays 300+ million year old fossils found on the cliffs. It is recommended that you get there early to take the cliff tour, only available at low tide. But if your schedule doesn't align with a tour, it is still well worth a visit.
(Translated) “No dinosaurs for it but other exciting fossils” ^ The museum is beautifully designed and the tour down to the beach with a knowledgeable guide is a must. There are no dinosaur fossils, but older relics from an earlier period. Above all, fossils of plants and insects can be found here. On the beach you have to pay attention to the low tide so as not to be surprised in an unfavorable place. For children who are too small, the tour on the beach can be boring, but the beach offers other distractions. Absolutely a MUST for those interested in paleontology!
Joggins has to be the best kept secret in the Maritimes!! My husband, dog(on leash), and I had a wonderful Saturday exploring the beachs of Joggin. Our expert guide Dana Brown educated us on the local history as well as fossil location. Dana shared his childhood memories from living in the area . being asked as a 10year , by world class scientists, to find them a fossil. As they were book learned and had not seen an actual fossil! Only 2hr drive from Beautiful Sussex. A MUST visit !
Nice to see if its on your way.....
Amazing experience
Interesting bit of our history and seeing the fossils up close
This was really cool. Fossils everywhere. I wish that we had more time to read about them in the indoors part of the exhibit. We know that we will return next time we get to Nova Scotia. Lots of stairs down to the shore, though, and make sure you plan your visit with low tide. And don't take the fossils - take photos only!
We’ve visited the fossil cliffs twice and enjoyed the expansive views, shore and cliff exploring along with the interpretive information. The staff are friendly and helpful and the facilities are very accessible and clean.
Beach was awesome
Excellent exhibit featuring some of the many fossils found in the area, many of which have important historical significance. You are virtually guaranteed to find fossils of Carboninferous trees and other organisms while you walk along the beach.
Very beautiful place to enjoy the Bay of Fundy
Great big beautiful beach! Friendly staff.
The 30 minute tour included with your entry fee is well worth doing - it'll show you what to look for, and your tour guide can help identify any fossils you find. Be sure to pack a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen - there is NO shade on the beach
Great museum. Informative guided tours on the beach. Reasonably priced.
Amazing place and the museum is a must see.
Interesting bit of earth's history.
Overpriced, underwhelming and a massive waste of time. I'm a big science nerd and it broke my heart just how pathetic this place was that I was so excited to visit on our vacation. You don't need to take my word for it though, look through the pictures people have uploaded. You'll notice there's not a single picture of a fossil in a cliff and almost none of the fossils inside. Anyway, my review. There's two distinct experiences at Joggins. The museum and the cliff walk. Both very different, both equally disappointing. The museum features maybe a few dozen small fossils of mostly plants. The majority of the more interesting ones are either casts of fossils not present or on loan from other places and not even from there. The museum side of the building is mostly a single large open room and takes about 50% of the building, the other 50% being devoted to a very large overflowing gift shop and kitchen/cafeteria area. There's fancy glass windows on the floor looking into rock terrariums, perhaps to draw your attention from all the empty spaces along the walls where fossils should be. It is abundantly clear they spent the majority of their time and money on the building itself and selling you things and not curating the exhibits whatsoever. The beach tour is $10 a person, 30 minutes long (five minutes to get to the beach area and five minutes back so really a 20 minute tour) and focused largely on a haphazard stack of four fossilized tree stump sections piled onto each other on the beach and then the guide reads some geology facts from a flip book. Throw in a five minute speech about coal mining and you're done, thanks for your money. The cliffs are impressive, you can clearly see the angled layers of strata from the different geological time periods, but they're completely devoid of visible fossils. The beach is littered everywhere with big pieces of cut rock covered in graph marking lines where they've harvested fossils from. All in all, you're paying $15 dollars for yourself or $45 for a family of three like we did, to go see a place where fossils used to be and to look at some mostly unimpressive partial plant fossils from other places. It's utterly pathetic that this is what we've developed to showcase a Canadian UNESCO site. Do yourself a favour and just go and sit at a nice spot along the bay of Fundy and have a picnic, you'll get the same experience and save yourself $50.
Very interesting
Beautiful and unique. Be sure to time your visit for low tide!
