REVIEWS OF Halifax Waterfront IN Nova Scotia

A nice place to hang out for a few hours and check out the waterfront, eat at the kiosks or relax at the many restaurants in the proximity. You will see boats of many sizes cruising past you while you stroll. There were many displays set up for Halloween on our walk today around the boardwalk. I couldn't resist taking a snap shot of Jasper in front of one of the fall displays and posting it! You will find many comfy chairs, hammocks and seating along the boardwalk. The waterfront is a must to visit if you come to Halifax....oh and I just about forget to mention the music...buskers are a regular site around the grounds!

Nikki Dennis

Nice spot, a lot going on and the food choices are plentiful.

Matthew Hendershott

A lovely place to spend some time. No shortage of food or drink, and some great harbour views. Great destination for some indulgent treats on a nice day.

Neil Fernandes

The Halifax waterfront seems to have it all. A nice long and busy boardwalk past interesting arts & crafts, public art installations, food outlets & restaurants, harbour tours, bike rentals and museums at either ends of the boardwalk. Pier 21 is at one end and the maritime museum at the other. We had great weather when we visited on a cruise ship and you can tell from the pictures, it was a clear summer day. There are public washrooms and paid parking available along the waterfront. With a few condos sprouting up close to the waterfront, you can be sure this is one place that is guaranteed to attract a lot of crowd. The harbour hopper uses one of the parking lots adjacent to the Murphy's restaurant. Murphys seems to have the monopoly of the waterfront tourist attractions. A great place to spend a lazy afternoon.

Christine Sheaves

Beautiful spot. Very clean. Music, lots of sitting areas.

Rajesh Sahadeo

Lovely city... Great ocean front views, nice people very tourist oriented...

Joy Fajardo

Super love this place. Nice walk that is pet friendly. Got a number of restaurants with patio. Enjoyed the summer weather outdoors.

Leonard Brown

Beautiful. Peaceful and relaxing. Stopped and had a couple of drinks. A bit pricy but that was to be expected in a tourist spot

Gregory Finney

No trip to Halifornia is complete without a visit here. Hit Stubborn Goat beer Garden or Salt House Social. The seafood tower and Oysters at Waterfront Warehouse Brunch at Black Spoon was divine. Bicycle Thief for a fancy dinner! Lower Deck for a nightcap

Techno Guppy (Technoguppy)

5 stars for the picturesque views and the energy of the waterfront. 1 star for the poor service, high prices, low quality restaurants that are scattered about. They are there to get you in, feed you some "authentic food" (some is good, some is not so good), and get you out. They know that you are not coming back so decent service by predominantly university students is often found elsewhere. Try any of the other restaurants a couple of streets away from the waterfront. Visit, enjoy, just don't eat at the waterfront.

Darlene Chisholm

Was a nice day on the waterfront but because it is off-season most of the outdoor shops are closed.

Tonia Hartnett

Parking is awful, but still beautiful

Milap Bhanderi

I would say it is one of the very coolest place to explore in halifax and to spend your evening by waterside. 3-4 place you should visit are: The Ferry terminal, The Wave, waterfront swings, curvy street lights..!

Raida Yessin

Very nice Ocean front place for a walk and something to eat with many touristic boutiques for souvenirs

Daniel Darroch-Potter

Was here with my husband for an appointment. He was going to be two hours so I walked the waterfront. So many changes since I've been here last including a huge building lol

Todd Maye

Excellent!! Kudos to Halifax for an awesome job preserving the waterfront for the people vs developers. Tons of history, pictures, restaurants and shops. You can stroll back and forth between the cruise ship terminal and McDonald bridge. If you get tired of this, downtown is also a great place to walk around and shop or grab a beverage at a cafe or pub. Be sure to check out the citadel at the top of the hill. Great city

Claire Lam

Clean, pedestrian friendly, with great food stalls and a wonderful environment.

Haitham Chehadi

Great view, banches, atmosphere A lot of restaurants, kiosks and cafe bars to have a seat and enjoy ur time Mist and cloudy doesnt stop novascotians from enjoying the evening

Sue Richard

I love my city, but parking is tricky. Paid parking lots down on the board walk or parking garages are ok, reasonable I guess. The board walk is clean and all kinds of little shops along the way. It's a great walk from Pier 21 all the way to the casino!

shelley sparks

The water front soo beauitful now great place to go for a walk .

Just In You Tube

My first time in Halifax. Such a beautiful city. I took my sweet time taking in all the amazing views here. The boat race, historical statues, structure art and awesome street performance's. Along the way you will have lots of different delicious food to choose from. You want to shop that is covered as well pick up a souvenir as you will have plenty of shops along the way to visit. Got the kids there is a cool playground with a tidal wave they can burn off some energy well you do a pit stop to recharge. You won't regret the visit here.

Sukarnos YYZ

Beautiful boardwalk, busier during late evenings, has good amount of restaurants to munch on, not so big of a boardwalk(less than 2 km) I had probably mis read it as worlds longest downtown boardwalk(4km+)

Julie Drummond

Omg...love this place...don't want to leave ????????????..so much to see and do... Can't wait to come back ????????

Darren Cottrell

Well worth the night time visit

Jeff Meaney

Great place to visit, just take a walk, see downtown attractions, and grab a bite!

Carolyn Tomkins

As soon as you see the fog roll out you have to head down here. It’s touristy, but it’s still a lot of fun and a beautifully done waterfront. Love this spot.

Jessica Fleury

Breathtakingly view of the water, lots of boats to see, shops to explore, and little artistic details throughout the harbor. I enjoyed walking around and taking my time doing it

Dan Cassidy

We have had a great 3 nights in Halifax. Great music, plenty of places to eat and parking on the pier. The Henry House Pub has a great patio.

Li Merrick

Would give 5 stars if a good portion of the main walk wast blocked off. It has been for a long time and I don't see it reopening anytime soon. Building "luxury apartments" right on the board walk was not a smart idea.

Danaysia Ash

I love the Halifax Harbour front! There is so much to buy, eat and explore!!! It’s definitely a touristy area so it’s always going to be crowded but you can always find spaces to relax or restaurants to enjoy a meal with family or friends! Make sure to wear comfortable footwear because due to the lack of parking spaces you may be doing lots of walking!

ryan j warner

very kind people & clean environment. recommend any fish & chips at the waterfront: freshest tasting fish I’ve ever had. the melting streetlights are a must-see!

Letitia C

Gorgeous spot to wander and see. Visited in early August. Lots of food options and places to sit and relax while watching the ships. Shops to pop into offering a wide array of clothing and gifts. Pictures are all from same day. Cloudy, cool and overcast in the morning and bright and sunny afternoon. I understand that changeable weather is very typical in Halifax.

Ravindra Kempaiah

Visiting the Halifax waterfront on a summer evening is just wonderful. You have this wooden broadwalk spanning over a kilometer and the views are marvelous. I saw a group of people swing dancing, sailors, people just enjoying the walk. It was great. There are quite a few restaurants nearby that offer outdoor seating. There are tours one could take to see and understand the history of this place in an organized way.

Dimitris Protsios

It's under renovation according to signs at various spots and that is a great thing as it is a nice place to walk around, relax, entertain and do more. It will definitely look better as it is a bit worn down at some spots. Nice assortment of dining places with a variety of prices. Lots of free seating to enjoy the day on the pier or elsewhere.

Sherry Ottery

Beautiful relaxing harbor and waterfront. I love being near or on the water. So much to do there as well. Several excellent restaurants to choose from too!

Ice White

It's the most beautiful place, especially during Summer. Even in Winter it's still a good place to walk around.

Kyra O'Brien

Lots of events and development, always plants and bouquet like displays, and they're always adding something new so it's always an exciting visit

KD M

Beautiful and happening place. Lot of affordable eateries and restaurants nearby. Nothing for the vegetarian though except French fries. Harbor hopper is a good experience for the water tour. Land tour of boring except for not too high a aerial view of the city in and around waterfront. Good time pass place for summer for those who don't want to drive beyond Halifax.

Jeremy Kurtin

Nice walk along the water front.

Alejandro

Amazing place to see. Lots of activities. Great for kids. Many food options. I can't wait to go back

Lesi

Amazing to send your time with your friends! Awesome food and ice cream too!

Hardik Patel

This is beautiful place to relax around soothing sound of water and cool breeze. There are a number of restaurants around if you wish to have a table outside to enjoy your food with the sound of water and cool breeze.

Dawna McGladrie

Love this place. Always something to see, even if u have been before. Only draw back is seabridge is not open this year due to construction.

Andy Novikov

It was a beautiful walk along the boardwalk. Lots of waterfront places to eat or get a cold beer, to visit little shops and farmers market. This is a great spot for taking many photos too. Wonderful way to spend a sunny day!

Amit Gandhi (The Monk)

Exquisite tranquility at water front. One of the best place to roam around in downtown. It almost take half a day to explore the beauy and get cool breeze.- fresh and airy.

Olivier Murgier

Beautiful place, nice to have the ferry nearby to avoid parking issues.

Christina Vandette

Beautiful spot to spend the day walking and shopping and eating.

Chrïs

Great place for the whole family. There are chairs and hammocks to enjoy watching the boats and the water. Lots of interesting birds to watch and there are often people fishing from the wharf. Several interesting playgrounds for kids to enjoy.

Amanda Perry

What are great tradition to start. The evergreen festival downtown was so magical.

Gabriel Murphy (Gabe)

This place bussin bussin, lots to do and see. Stopped on the hammocks to relax after a day DT, lots of restaurants and stuff to do. Make sure to stop at Davy Jones locker for a custom maritime T shirt he's got Halifax wind jammers to Beep

Ned Connor

We have not visited the Halifax Waterfront for several years. We found it vastly improved in size and scope. There is more to see do, and more places to stop and enjoy Nova Scotia hospitality. There is a museum, harbour tours, shops, bicycles ans seats to relax and people watch. It was a great day.

J Beechu

Best walk in Halifax, even though it’s typically touristy it’s fun with Lots if yummy restaurants and cafes and amazing views of the harbour. When we were there there was a buskers festival on( it was huge and people came from other parts of the world) and that was wonderful! Not this year due to Covid 19 but I’m sure it’ll be back next summer. So much history in this Harbour!

Colin Heighton

One of the places I would consider a must see. The city has put so much into this area to make it as tourist friendly as possible. Activities, festivals and beautiful views, coupled with great resturants and pubs. There are also activities for children, educational material and some wonderful hammocks on the boardwalk to have a nap or read a book by the water.

Dumantha Jayasuriya

Great place in downtown Halifax. Day or night you can always go amd chill

Kim Parker

Lovely boardwalk. Amazing restaurant choices. Great vibe!

iamdan.online

I came during COVID and on a day with cloudy skies. So it was the worst case scenario... Bring snacks, and you'll be fine. It's nice to get close to the ocean and see the views. Very pretty. Would 100% recommend to come during days where things would actually be open.

Jon' Fulljames

A wonderfully historic area of this famous city, with lots to see. The maritime museum was especially interesting given the history of the 1917 explosion and the RMS Titanic memerobilia.

K Wade

Halifax has a great Wharf Walkway with even vegan cafes, hammocks, children's play areas, great places to sit or eat outside. The further you walk the more cool spots emerge. The hammocks were so popular, we had to wait a bit to quickly catch one. What a great way to relax on the waterfront.

Gulfam Haqnawaz

One of my favorite places in Halifax. Always great to visit. Something is happening around the year there. variety of food options, farmer market, museum of immigration etc. Refreshing to walk on wooden trail.

Chelsea MacIntosh

The improvements to the waterfront have made for an even more enjoyable experience. Plenty of vendors, live music and even more spots for snacking!

Wendy Stebbing

The city has made the waterfront area a vibrant, welcoming place to be. We were here on a lovely August night and there were lots of people wandering around, live music playing, ample seating to watch the acticitynon the water or the people. It also felt completely safe. I would love to try some of the food places along here. There is a section that has a number of shipping containers that have been repurposed as retail locations.

Villagemayor

One of the must visits in Halifax. The boardwalk is relaxing and a quick way to cross downtown without cars. Lots of statues, landmarks, and chairs to admire the harbour. A must visit for any tourist!

Amber Dawkins

The boardwalk is so beautiful. We lucked out with the weather being sunny and relatively warm most days, for late October we felt very fortunate. Some of the restaurants are definitely overpriced and underwhelming but that's to be expected.

Manna Ghose

Loved thevibe of the harbour. Very fun and a great place to relax.

Nabeel Nasir (ilmaddict)

Beautiful, scenic area along the harbour front. Very nice to stroll in the summer. On Canada Day, they have plenty of festivities and music, including activities for the kids.

Calgary Explorer

Some construction when you get off Halifax side of the ferry. Great new spot down along the board walk past the Maritime museum of the Atlantic. Good vendors. Prices good. Lots of places to sit and eat. Great views from the wharf area.

cassie frazer

So beautiful on the waterfront. Social salsa dancing going on as a "free" Wednesday night activity; plus sax player, beautiful boats, fun people, beer garden and beavertails. What's not to love?

Kimmer Nice! Prezio

So love it beautiful! Walking enjoy the water the ocean and in some places great musi! thank you Halifax NS!

Kathy Poncelet

What a gorgeous, clean Boardwalk Waterfront! There were airondec chairs, benches, hammocks and even leash attachments for the pups! Water bowls serve our everywhere, friendly people & a huge assortment of tasty places to eat. We spend alot of time here because of how beautiful it was...will definitely be back!!!

Canadian Travel Review

Being near the water is of course pleasant. It is nice to walk along the boardwalk. However, if you’re looking for an uninterrupted step back in time you’ll be disappointed. While there are some old buildings, or old looking buildings, there are mostly newer buildings, some of which were clearly not designed to maintain the historic character of the area. The view across the Harbour is of many industrial areas. Restaurants are generally over priced, expensive and/or of questionable quality. I did find some of the food stalls to be surprisingly good. Had some fish n chips at the seafood stall - Katch - which was unexpectedly fresh and tasty.

Justin Rogers

It's a very busy spot. If you're needing a bathroom break along the way, stop in at the ferry terminal. There's public restrooms available there. You're welcome! The boardwalk is a great spot for a stroll.

Richard Reid

The Best place on the East coast. i would spend my days roaming the waterfront whenever im in town. peaceful. yet active always something going on amazing place to relax. try out the hammocks. relax and wait for one of the many musicians to start playing. weekends there usual a band or 2 in the summer. always a mecca for downtown. beaver tails and ice cream. fish and chips so many food options to make your head spin from simple to elegant. sit outside with a blanket on in the fall at a few of the downtown places. its magical!

Mohammad Mujahid

Great place to chill/relax with friends, family. Nice restaurants nearby, there is a hotel Marriott next to it. Had a great time. They should have more adventure activities or water parks.

Bruce White

Great place to walk or get some food or snacks

Mija Talosi

Had a great time fantastic and will be back

Gobind Singh

This is one of the main attractions of this beautiful city. Harbour area, amazing dining restaurants, lovely vibe, games to play. Many street artists, Canadian waters, a glance Atlantic ocean ???? and marine life. Where you can enjoy museum, old history of Halifax, restaurants, ship deck's, Ferry to Dartmouth, for children's have a playground too

Mike Corrigan

Haven't visited in quite some time. Better with age! Tremendous improvements with much to. Plenty of shops featuring local gifts. And of course many water tours available. While in Halifax, it's a must to see.

Ryan Squazzin

Amazing place. The lights during winter are great to! One of the most beautiful places in the world in my opinion especially at night

Michael Chung

It’s a great place to chill out, taking in the sights. You can access to its long, beautiful boardwalk from ample parking spots nearby. There are many benches to stop, appreciating the Dartmouth skyline with some boats sailing. I, personally, haven’t seen any cruise ships yet, but there are always many things to see. Also, you can always have a variety of options regarding what to eat.

Tina Yuen

A small ferries wheel was installed near the car park and it is free for the public. It is definitely a spot light of Christmas decoration there. We visited there on Saturday night but had just queued for about 10 minutes. We had so much fun on the wheel.

BohoBabe

Expansion of the existing boardwalks are underway. More room to sit and enjoy a beverage and something yummy from many of the delicious kiosks.

Shirlee Davidson

I love Halifax waterfront. Great to see everyone out enjoying the beautiful weather. Lots of patios to have a great meal and cold drink .

m a welch

Was a place I would like to go back to see more of the city

Shan Sayed

Halifax Harbor was a great place for visiting.... very lively bustling harbor. Many entertainment spots and restaurants and snack areas. beach volleyball , ice-cream, hopscotch, playground. And many many more Great place to spend many many hours and won't get tired or finish seeing everything in a day.

Joanne K

Great place to go for a walk or pick up and dessert after dinner

Doug

We could spend all day here. Lots of places to eat, patios to sit and have a drink. There are lots of shops and there are bistro sets and Muskoka chairs everywhere. You can take a ferry to or from Dartmouth. Update September 2021: It's still a great place to visit. They are putting up condos along the boardwalk which could take away from the ambiance and it is becoming very commercialized.

Cris B

Lots of restaurants to choose from here. Great vibe near the water including music. Good length boardwalk. Buskers and street performers. Dog friendly walk with picnic tables to sit and have a snack. Great options of dine in restaurants or takeout food stalls.

Bill Ahearn

Always a delightful way to spend a few hours. The boardwalk runs for more than a mile and has lots of history. The White Star Line was once on the eastern end and now is anchored by a market and cruise ship port. Summer brings amazing yachts from all over the world. You can take a ferry across the harbor to Dartmouth for a view of the city. It's also fun to just find a place to sit and watch the world go by on and off the water.

M Racette

The waterfront is really well preserved, the feelling of old town is really nice to take a walk.

Rejean Martel Cooper

Love this place always have always will. Love the "wave" especially how there is a sign that says to stay off it but every kid has to go on it, including myself. Love the cool breezes and sunny days. Missing the good ole days when the busker festival would be there when I as younger.

Lorie A.

A must have place to see! Beautiful scenery, great food, music and the ocean! Definitely will be back again :)

Mike Foster

Nice place to walk and enjoy the MANY food huts that offer great food, Like the newly opened Brawta Jamaican Jerk Hut or stop by the Beavertail hut for a sweet snack.

Real Auger

The waterfront is a great place to visit in downtown Halifax. There is ample parking close to boardwalk. Even on a very busy day it's possible to stop at the many benches and relax and take in the sights; boats sailing, the Dartmouth skyline, the cruise ships. Many vendors are present along the water front; Cows ice cream is a must stop, grab some chocolate from Peace by Chocolate, fish and chips at Murphy on the lake.

May Zhagro

Best place to go for a walk or to people watch during the spring-fall. Very pedestrian friendly and lots of seating available during the summer. Lots of seasonable businesses are on the waterfront ranging from food and drinks, to glass, to bike rentals, to performance areas. The whole waterfront goes from the farmer’s market to the casino. There’s also a few boats/sails/cargo ships around and sometimes there are really fancy million dollar yachts to look at. You can see Dartmouth across the water and George’s Island as well. Definitely a fun place to go if you’re visiting Halifax.

Jamie

It has been at least 10 years since I was here last and I was very impressed with the development. Lots of shops and seating if you want to enjoy the view

Christine Glogowski

Halifax waterfront is an amazing place. It was unfortunate that the little shops close down for winter so early in the year. Should stay open until at least end of October.

Graham Baker

Busy with tourists and a vibrant night life. Plenty of food and live music in the bars. Harbour tours were good and guides were enthusiastic and knowledgeable. A very welcoming and friendly destination.

Krishna Saraiya

Nice place to walk, sit, enjoy good food, drinks and great water view. Music, great vibes????????

Randy G

What a great place! Beautiful views of the harbour and the shops going by. Lots of different types of food along the way. Great place for the kids to play as well.

Lori-Ann Upshall

Always a pleasure to spend time on the waterfront in Halifax. I did an early morning run before the hustle and bustle of the day began. Returned later for a relaxed stroll, a little lunch and shopping from local vendors.
