Waited years to be able to visit this park. It didn't disappoint.

Chris Cocek

Worth the trip over as only open on special occasions.

Jason Trites

Really cool spot. $25 gets you a boat ride to the island and back, and your admission for Parks Canada. Staff are friendly, its not overly crowded and you learn and see a bit of history. They've built washrooms there, but bring a bottle of water if it's hot, there's nowhere to purchase anything as they've left it as original as possible.

It's unfortunate that Georges Island wasn't open on each of the two times that we visited Halifax. However, while it's not open to the general public unless on special but rare occasions, we got a fairly good view and some great photos of this historic island, with its largely subterranean Fort Charlotte, from the Halifax boardwalk.

Chris

Went out there yesterday, soo wanted to camp there! Love that island

A neat slice of history contained within the HRM.

Great thing to do. Visited this island while they had tours happening one day. You could go, visit the island, eat lunch and try on costumes of the army. It was really fun. Nice view of halfway as well.

Not generally open to the public year round, t tours are offered and dates available on their web site. Having said that, the place was clean, well maintained, there are portable potties available, and a security camera set up I imagine to ensure safety and good behaviour. I paddled over vain kayak from Halifax, a short five minute stint. I look forward to going again sometime soon.

George's Island is rarely open to the public, so it's a real gem to visit when this occurs. It has forts, tunnels, cannons, a lighthouse and snakes to name a few of its charms. It's fairly small so a lot of these spots can be explored while on the island.

We took the Ambassatour ride over to George’s Island Provincial Park, Halifax, NS on the Paddleboat Queen. Friendly staff. Easy on and off. Social distancing and masks required. Spent lovely afternoon learning about the history of George’s Island. They offered 15% off any purchases in restaurant or gift shop with ticket receipt that day.

Cheryl Anne

Amazing place, full of history. I took the chance going there yesterday as we only paid $15.00 for the tour due to the tall ships festival compared to $150.00/ person on normal days.

The tunnel trip was super cool, the people who worked there were so helpful! I gave the whole island 4 stars but this tunnel tour is def 5 stars for me! It was a pretty short tour but it’s super nice too learn some history of halifax! (Sorry the pictures are not super clear, it was a little bit dark inside) so definitely big recommend to everyone who wants to visit! The tour guide was super fun!

(Translated) After having sailed through the port of Halifax aboard a boat, we were able to disembark on the island and feel totally elsewhere! It felt like we were in Scotland! The places are really impressive. I am still amazed at the human genius. The guides are very pleasant and bilingual. We really enjoyed our visit which is partly guided and partly free. During your visit, you absolutely must visit the tunnels, it is a must!

I luckily got to visit this spot this year and wasn't disappointed. The price was very fair, and the Island itself is a non-Guided Tour. Upon entering the tunnels, you enlist into a short tour about the island which was my favorite part. The whole thing can be done in an hour or less.

Russ Walters

Dani Bowman

Was awesome getting the chance to explore the island. Definitely recommend!

Bruce Tracy

Beautiful spot.

Nice quick ferry ride over to the island, prepare to walk on the island but it's not overly taxing, the hilliness is apparent from shore so no surprises. Not all of the installation was open, but there was a 10-15 minute historical tour of some of the underground stuff, including stairs. Over time perhaps most of it will be available. The staff was friendly. There is a public bathroom there but no canteen for drinks or snacks when I was there, but you could enjoy it all in an hour or two so just bring your own. Note you schedule your ferry over but you can hop on any ferry back. Covid protocols were in place for boarding and on the ferry. The presence of snakes is not a rumour, but they avoid the areas frequented by people so visitors who are afraid of them won't have problems. It's a nice little afternoon thing to do by itself, for history buffs it's probably better done in combination with the Citadel.

Tricia Maxwell

Enjoyed every minute of it. Especially the tunnel tours (do NOT miss this). Two hours is more than enough for the island.

Craig Peters

Had a great time!! Learned a lot of new stuff about Halifax and Dartmouth!!

Mike Swaine

Very run down, nice experience but wouldn't do it again.

Sarah Lowe

Amazing experience, you get to explore at your own pace with the option of a guided tour through the tunnels.

David Doney

Ferry out and back Not easily Wheelchair accessible. steep ramp to ferry and hills and stairs on island. If able to walk down and up the ramp then perhaps its doable but not easy. Good history of fort given by guides who take people through the underground rooms. View from island over to Halifax Harbour

Patti Snair

Super cool spot...Yummy Lunch!

It was very interesting worth the trip over

Ryan Yates

The tour of the runnels was very cool, however I feel like parks Canada could do more with the island, there's not much in terms of historic artifacts collections related to the artillery outside of the cannons
