REVIEWS OF Burntcoat Head Park IN Nova Scotia

Robin Hernandez

Awesome place to visit at high AND low tides! Unfortunately it's completely inaccessible to anyone with any sort of walking difficulties.

Murr Stevens

Nice place. It was busy but I hear that this was the exception. Traverse to beach is short and has steps to rocks and below those are steps carved into the stone. A physically fit senior can handle.

Jim Goit

Really interesting place to see the tides.

Patrick Brouder

Incredible! Walked the sea floor at low tide, then headed off to tour the area and have breakfast. Returned to watch the tide rise for the last hour before high tide. The pace of the tidal flow is impressive and everyone watching was fascinated by it!

Emma B.

Amazing place, a must see if you like the tide

Samantha M

Beautiful scenery. Parking is close to the shore, not a tough hike by any means

Emma Miles

Amazing place to go to experience high tides in Nova Scotia. To get the best out of your time there I reccommend checking the tides and if it's in or out. When the tide is out you can walk all over the ocean floor. When the tide is in it shows you good comparison of how much water comes in and how quick. Be careful to not walk too far from the stairs if the tide is coming as you can get caught in it and that's never good! Be smart!

Cathy Wright

Well-kept park. There are picnic tables and toilets. The signs give a lot of history, which is intetesting. Was there at High tide and will return to see low tide.

Naomi Khan

An amazing destination with free access to the park. Signage was informative. The park was very clean.

Jim Davis

Worlds biggest tides. Explore the beach at low tide, see the red sandstone cliffs.

Rylan Dalrymple

It's really pretty here. Nice picnic space. And you can watch the tidal bore here.

S T

Stunning scenery and very helpful staff. Not a heavily populated tourist attraction, so made for a nice visit!

TheKingOfKings818

Beauty of a place to take a weekend drive to. Not much around there for restaurants or anything but the view is amazing and it makes for a nice place to adventure to.

Go in the morning super early when the tide is out. I was by myself for about 1 hour before a family with little children showed up and the echoes from their voices could be heard from far away. You can check the times for high and low tides before you go. google - burntcoat head park tides . There is also a sign posted when you walk down the stairs to the ocean floor stating what time you have to come back from walking on the ocean floor. This place is amazing and holds the guiness book of world records for most extremes - lowest tide and highest tide. From halifax it is about 1 hour and 15 minutes away....I didn't want to wait until high tide...which would have been about 6 hours later..that will be my next trip out..will go at high tide. Make sure you wear rubber boots as the rocks are slippery and there is some mud. Do not bring your dogs..they are not allowed to walk on the ocean floor. I am suspecting it is dangerous for them.

Mr. Beedz

Beautiful place to walk

Nanine Murray

This is my go to spot ro explore and unwind. The todals that are created here are amazinga nd you can soend hours wading through the cool rocks and sea life. I have seen over 1000 hermit crabs within an hour time frame. I found some really neat sandstones and also found a fully intact skull of what looked like a seal. I would recommend this place to anyone who is able to walk and keep their balance. The area is sandy and there are a few areas where the look of the sand can be deceiving and you'll sink down into it quite a bit andpossible get stuck or at least have a really tough time getting out of it. Its a beautiful pkace to explore but it also has other great ameninties. There's a neat little lighthouse to go see, a lookoff, the gorgeous rock carved stairs that lead down to the ocean floor, washrooms and picnicking areas. There's also an overflow field for hangjng out and throwing a frisbee or laying out some blankets. Great for walking dogs and taking teens who can keep their footing It's still a great placr to bring the little but I wouldn't let them stray far. If you can, fet out this way and check it out :)

The wife and I love to bike and found this place this summer.Very interesting how the water has eroded the shore

It's a beautiful park with a lovely re creation of the lighthouse. And then, down to the ocean floor at low tide to wander about on the sandstone between the site and the flowerpot island on which the original lighthouse sat.

Melisa

Lovely spot. Not super accessible - no wheelchair access. Lots of Hermit Crabs to find!

Mohawks and Tomahawks

My wife is from AB, so I brought her here to watch the tides come in for the first time in her life. Blew her mind how fast and how much water comes in. Peaceful place, great for a walk, a picnic, and to watch the tides.

Jamie Renouf

Walking around on the ocean floor is fun here.

Amazingly beautiful! Pack a lunch and explore the area so you can catch low tide and when the water has come back again. Bring boots or shoes you don't mind getting muddy so you can explore the tidal pools.

Courtney k

Great experience when it's low tide! Would love to watch the tide some in someday or have a picnic on the bay of fundy floor !

Matthew Thompson

Beautiful place to go to. My wife and I took our 3 children here and they had a blast couldn't belive that the water actually rises that high loved the fact they were "under water" and sand mud snails for days. The view is absolutely beautiful. Plus the drive there is beautiful aswell. We will be going again highly recommend. (Make sure you check the tide times)

Francesca D.

Had a gorgeous afternoon walking on the beach as the tide was rolling out. Stones were slick and water icy, so be aware of your surroundings as your walking about.

Meduckies

This place is amazing. Go for a walk walk on the ocean floor. Have a picnic or BBQ. Sit and listen to the bird's and nature. Watch the Fundy tides come in and go out. Visit and climb to the top of the lighthouse. Take a walk on the grounds. A great place to have a wedding. Only an hour from Halifax via the Beaverbank Road. A must see. A great Sunday drive. A little piece of Nova Scotia.

Bill Rose

Amazing day out with my wife and kids, definitely will make the trip back.

Informative infographics posted along the trails, the lighthouse was really interesting to visit, and of course, walking along the seabed at low tide and watching the water rush in as the tide turned. The grounds are impeccably kept and perfect for a picnic after hours of exploring. A wonderful place to spend the day!

This is the most beautiful place I've accidentally discovered. I was in awe pretty much the whole time I was there. I did not come prepared becuase I was in a long dress so I couldn't walk as far in as I would have liked. Also make sure your battery is full, mine died so I didn't get all the pictures I wanted.

WonderWendy M

We arrived early and surprise! An antique car club was having a picnic brunch, so we got to wander through and look at the antique automobiles before we wandered onto the ocean floor. We were there at lowest tide, and we were not able to stay long enough to watch the tide come in - we're planning a future trip to observe that. There are washrooms and shaded picnic tables in the park itself, as well as a lighthouse to visit. those parts are all accessible. Getting down to the ocean floor is part scramble part leap of faith. The floor itself is muddy, sandy, rocky, slippery and wet. Lots of kids went barefoot, most adults were wearing either water shoes or sneakers. A single water tap at the top is available for washing mud off and you will need to wash mud off. There are oodles of periwinkles everywhere so watch where you step. The tide pools have oodles of tiny hermit crabs so watch where you step. Definitely check out the tide schedule before you go. You have to be back up off the ocean floor three hours before the tide is due in. Plan your travel time accordingly and pack a change of clothes and a towel just in case ????

G Bell

Looks just like the photos. You will get dirty here.

Wonderful place ! Worth looking up on Tides.gc.ca beforehand. Otherwise park staff write the low/high tide times and there’s an informative sign that gives ideas to explore around while waiting. Totally worth the detour

Don't miss your opportunity to visit here. It was so beautiful. Watch the tide roll away as you walk on the ocean floor and take in all the beauty this park as to offer. I will not forget this moment.

The sights and drive was great. Bathrooms could have used more tender love and care. Not best Covid practiced distancing occuring on the stairs to clean your shoes afterwards. I recommend bringing a pair of shoes you don't care about!

Great place to experience the bay of Fundy tides without crowds and tourist operators. No fee for entrance as well which is nice. Beautiful grounds and flower beds.

Mathew-Leroy Rauber

Nice place

Amanda Grimaldi

Similar to it's sister spot, Hopewell Rocks in NB, this spot is marvelous to experience by walking on the ocean floor when the tide is out. The wind was whipping, but still had a nice long wander. Washroom facilities and picnic tables available by the parking lot, a cute little gift shop, and a chance to go up into the top of the lighthouse while also reading some informational posters about the local history. Definitely recommend!

Gail Schrooten

It was a misty day.. but the whole bottom of the ocean thing was still pretty amazing

Dimitris Protsios

A must see when visiting Nova Scotia. Keep yourself updated on the low / high tide times in the same day because you would like to see the low and then after 6 hours the high tide on the same spot. A visit to the light house inside the park is a nice thing to do too as you can walk all the way up and enjoy the view. Greta and very informative staff too.

Rishab Gaba

Get there just as the tide is going out to really experience the difference. We got there at 10am and there was a 3 meter path across without water and when we left at 2 PM, the water was a good hundred meters out. You don't need boots but flip flops are great, although slippery at some spots. You should get your feet in the mud! Pack lunch and enjoy the day!

Chris Newman

Awesome, hard for some to get to ocean floor, but great view when u do

Abeer Hegazi

It was so cool to walk on the bottom of the ocean and see the tide coming back to cover your foot steps. It is a magical place.

Definitely cool checking it out at low tide and coming back to see the same space transformed at high tide. Nature is a beauty, truly. We went first weekend of November 2021 and though the park was closed for the season, you could still visit at your own risk and responsibility. Just follow the signs and be respectful of the area and notices.

Scott Urquhart

Great day trip for a family. Check the tide schedule before coming out.

Harris Semegram

Best place to see tidal bore

Ronald Darraugh

Unbelievable scenery here! Hopewell Rocks has nothing on this place!

Adam Owens

Make sure you go at low tide, but there are lots of things to explore.

Tanya Dellewell

Not a very large park at high tide. I suggest planning a visit as the tide goes out.

Erin O'Brien

Stunning scenery!!

Burncoat Head is one of nature’s wonders set in the Bay of Fundy, where you can see the world’s highest tides in action. It was originally a spit of land connected to the shore and over time the tides have worn away the soft rock and sand around it, creating this island you see today. It can look very different each day depending on weather, the bay often has fog multiple times a day and usually it is cooler on the bay than inland. Bring appropriate footwear if you venture down to the ocean floor. No flip flops. Some rocks are slippery and there is sticky red mud which will stain shoes and clothing. Sneakers are likely best for walking on rocks etc. There is a tap and brush to use to wash footwear off after. An interpreter will explain that the area to the left of the stairs is off limits due to the endangered clam species there. You can walk around the island, explore the caves and walk up the beach but make sure you pay attention to incoming tides. When they start to come in, they come in faster than you expect because of the shape of the bay. This is also the location of the very unique “dinners on the ocean floor” hosted by the Flying Apron Inn and B&B.

Antoinette Di Ciaccio

I love that they offered interesting and tasty non alcoholic cocktails made with Seedlip distilled spirits. Hats off to the mixologist... and the chef. Appetizer of fish bites were VERY yummy.

Great place to walk the ocean floor and explore. Newly updated stairs and restricted area. Check the local tide time So you don't go when it's high tide.

Justin Gonsalves

The best place to see the tide come in. The location is a bit off the trail as it were, but it is worth it. The peaceful quiet, while I stood at the shore and watched the tide come in was worth it.

Just an amazing place. Biggest tide height differences in the world! Wander the really flat beach at low tide, say hi to all of the crabs, and try not to get caught on an island as the tide comes in!

Really cool spot. You get to essentially walk on the ocean floor. Also watching the tide come in is amazing.

Pretty little trails leading to the low tide Fundy bay floor! When the tide rises, it's all flooded! My daughter loved searching among the rocks for her little treasures and she got happily messy! Get the kids off the phone and bring them out here!

Ajay Uppot

Amazing place to watch the tide, walk on ocean bed, pick crabs....

Manjinder Singh

Burntcoat Head Park is located in Burntcoat in Noel, Nova Scotia. It can be easily navigated on google maps. The park is well maintained by Municipality of East Hants and entry to the park and the lighthouse is free. This pet friendly coastal park on the shore of Bay of Fundy is open from dawn to dusk daily however the lighthouse and washrooms are only open from 10:00 am to 06:00 pm. This shore of the Fundy Bay sees highest tides in the world. The tidal range may reach to maximum of 16.3 metres (53.5 feet), from low tide to high tide. The park staff writes there everyday’s high low tide timings so that none get trapped in tides while exploring the sea bed and Flowerpot Islands. The friendly park staff can guide you about the area and history of the lighthouse. The Burntcoat lighthouse was built three times. Where the lighthouse was built first the tides eroded it around and brought into the water, this is how Flowerpot Islands came into existence. Then the new lighthouse was built far inland which was later decommissioned and demolished. The lighthouse that we see now was rebuilt again by the East Hants Municipality to preserve it as an monument from the past. You can go to the top of the lighthouse to have a look off view. Around the Flowerpot Islands there several sea caves are formed from the tidal erosion. You can also visit these sea caves when the tide is low. As the tide hits its lowest hundreds of meters of ocean bed becomes visible and you can walk on it, this is an expensive unique in its kind. There is a wash station to wash your shoes on the way back from walking on the sea bed. However, do not forget your waterproof boots and always plan ahead to visit the head park. There are several protected small sea creatures where the park staff would not allow you to go to when the tide is low. The park has serene and calm ambiance with many different trees around. All trees are labeled with their names and their origin.

sepehr Naeeni

Robert McInerney

A beautiful location with tides that rise and fall with impressive and spectacular extremes. Great for young children and adults alike. Bring boots, or enjoy getting super muddy!

Kate Hathaway

Wear sandals you dont mind getting muddy. You can wash them off at a tap by the stairs after.

Ashley Frank

Beautiful

Nathan Corry

Well worth the trip. The rocks, green moss, hermit crabs, snails, and minoes. Probably one of the best things about it, is that you don't have to get that muddy while walking around. There's quite a bit of rock. Make sure to go at low tide. It was fun walking on the ocean floor.

Steven Carr

Awesome!!!

Janalyn Peppel

Unique experience with wonderful guide

Anushka Flemming (Andi)

Place was super cool, staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The one thing that was missing was garbage cans. We only saw one and it was way up near the washrooms and none in the picnic areas. The only other thing was the stairs to the top of the lighthouse could use a rail or handholds to help get up, they are narrow and steep and my kids went up but I couldn't. Great place overall to visit! Would definitely recommend.

MartinJ

We’re a couple of Earth Science geeks and enjoyed our walk on the sea floor.

Lynne Davis

Beautiful spot. Need more parking and facilities

Gabriel Viens

(Translated) Absolutely WOW !! Beautiful place to visit, with its red cliffs and lighthouse. At low tide, walking on the beach is really nice. (Original) Absolument WOW !! Jason Surette

As a Nova Scotian I cant believe this was my first visit. This is a small, quaint and beautiful park! The landscaping was well done, lighthouse and washrooms in excellent condition and the trails to the water well maintained. The stairs to the beach were nice, liked the stairs carved in the rocks. I recommend paying attention to the times of tides and plan your visit accordingly to really enjoy time on the beach to explore. I'll be back!

Pam W

Interesting place and stunningly beautiful. The staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly. Check the Fundy tides before heading there and bring a picnic lunch. it's a long but beautiful drive but nowhere to get food on site.

Gander7

Only an hour away from Halifax on one road. Great place for a picnic, walk a beach, and enjoy the awe of the Fundy tides.

Absolutely amazing. There's washrooms, a small gift shop and guides. Bring rubber boots and a towel because it is muddy but there is a little fountain you can use to wash your stuff after. Needs a fresh injection of Mi'kmaq history though.

Sam Deyton

A great location to experience the Bay of Fundy. We were able to walk out hundreds of yards during low tide and see multiple cliffs and caves.

Ted Fraser

Always fun to walk on the ocean floor.

Dennis Saunders

Great location, excellent place to walk on the ocean floor, definitely worth the stop.

Jonathan Beaudry

(Translated) Impressive! (Original) Impressionnant!

Monica Jordan

The park is very well maintained with friendly staff! It was awe-inspiring to see the impact of water on the stone at low tide, and then to watch how quickly the tide rises. It's very slippery on the mud at low tide, but navigable. There are lots of snails and hermit crabs to watch in tidepools! There were also picnic tables and shade, bring your lunch! Thank you to the staff - We'll be back!

ajoy varghese

This spot is less busier. And great view of the tides.

Celia Weir

Beautifully kept area, new stairs and foot cleaning area are great! Washroom facilities great improvement too!

Angela Wainwright

Fantastic senic views from the last orginal lighthouse in the province. Breath taking clay stone island and a tour of the ocean floor with a local Zoologist. A beautiful place to visit, bring a picnic basket.

Excellent walk among the sandstone formations at low tide. Scenic lighthouse.

Murray Milne

Unique way to experience tides in scenic setting... Must go twice!!

CAI GAN XIAN Lucas

Majestic park in Nova Scotia. The sunset and sunrise is amazing. The place is clean and there are not much people around. Feel connected to the nature. Low tide is the best moment to go.

This park is amazing, the 6 hour tides are totally worth it. The staff are really helpful too!

(Translated) Gorgeous! Great place to walk at the bottom of the sea! Make sure you have taken note of the tides to be there at low tide. Easy with kids, but some places are quite slippery. Clean toilets and very welcoming staff. (Original) Magnifique! Super endroit pour marcher au fond de la mer! Il faut s'assurer d'avoir pris note des marées pour y être à marée basse. Facile avec les enfants, mais certains endroits sont assez glissants. Toilettes propres et personnel très accueillant.

Rick Cantwell

Beautiful park that you can watch the tides on the north side of Nova Scotia. Walk and learn about our ocean and see what the Bay of Fundy is all about. You would not believe that you walk under or around an island.

Justin Gaudreault

Jon Woodman

Absolute hidden gem. Way more than worth the drive.

becky platnauer

Martin Wall

Very nice park

Jason Hibbs

Absolutely beautiful place. The cottages are gorgeous!

Wendy Stebbing

This is a beautiful spot to experience the Bay of Fundy. We timed it at low tide and were able to walk around and see lots of hermit crabs and also how quickly the tide began coming in. Wear good walking shoes that can be washed as it is messy and slippery. Be careful walking. Apparently the most dramatic tides are during the new moon in the fall. It also has a lovely picnic area between the parking and shoreline. A must see in this area.

Ed Sullivan

One of the coolest spots to experience the world's highest tidal variations.... At low tide you can stroll across the ocean floor.... at high tide those same spots are under 35 feet of water! We were there off season, on a cold windy day.... the park facilities were closed, but we still had an awesome experience and got some stunning photos!! If you can, try to see Burntcoat Head at both low tide and high tide (6 hours difference).... it's totally worth it to see the difference. In season there are staff, an information center, parking and washrooms. Off season you can park and walk in, but there are no staff and all facilities are closed and locked.

Ruth Albrecht

Beautiful never knew it existed what a treat

Brittany Julian

Beautiful walk on the oceanfloor on the Bay of Fundy. Be sure to check the tide times before coming here.

Ian Spencer

naperica

going to see the Bay of Fundy was amazing. I'm glad we were there at low tide. We didn't sign up for any tour, we just went and explored on our own. Parking was a little sketchy for our RV.

Amazing experience. Be sure to check when low tide is before you go and arrive 30 minutes before that to get the full experience. Also read all the signs to save the endangered species that are exposed.

Andrew de Boer

Amazing views of the highest tides in the world. You can literally walk on the ocean floor for hundreds of feet in either direction. Very cool

Matthew Beyer

Great place to explore!

Darren Fancy

An amazing natural wonder. Great access to the water and the sea floor.

Much love

Kate Stewart

This awe-inspiring natural park is only a 1 hour drive from the Halifax Region and has the highest tides in the world! We arrived at low tide which allowed us lots of time to explore the ocean floor. The park staff are very knowledgeable and eager to answer questions about the local history and natural environment. I highly recommend wearing a pair of rubber boots so that you can explore the ocean floor which is a mixture of rock, sand, muck and tidal pools.

Ryan Maclean

Great scenes!

Karen Lee

Great place to spend a couple hours. Get the tide schedule and try to catch high and low.

Richard Dragaon

Incredible scenery and a fantastic spot to watch the powerful tides of The Bay of Fundy

darren mcphee

By far....The Best place to View the Highest Tides in the World.!!.Walk on the Ocean Floor at Low Tide, Watch the Power of the Ocean at high tide...

Norbert Aschenbrenner

Watch the tide go. Amazing how the water goes away and openes the way to the big rocks. We were there after the season and it was great even that everything was closed.

Angus Chan

Fantastic place toea

Geoffrey Bishop

An excellent hidden gem that showcases the Bay of Fundy. Clean facilities, interpreters available, and incredible views. Highly recommended.

Toby Field

It is winter so it was cold and windy but still stunningly beautiful. The power of the Bay is on full display here

Rhonda Hurst

Beautiful place, the tides are amazing.

Stuart Linley

The park itself is absolutely marvellous. Just a stunning view of the Minas Basin ocean floor with abundant small sealife to search for among the tide pools. A fantastic place for nature enthusiasts and especially children. If you do decide to go, I recommend avoiding the tour. Our guide rambled and gave some recognizably false information - plus too many opinions and details of their life... If you hate the ocean mud so much... Don't work on the ocean floor ????.

Andy

Nice mud

Valerie Borgal

Can't wait to go back !!!

Lynn Morrison

Have a picnic on the ocean floor. See tidal pools. Watch the highest tides in the world ebb and flow. Amazing sunsets

David McDougall

Paul Legros

Check for high and low tide times before you go. Change daily!

Dot Smith-Bezanson

We are planning to return. Lovely spot.

Val O'Neill

What another wondrous example of the many different landscapes of Nova Scotia!! I definitely recommend catching a sunset here. Be forewarned though, the ocean floor is extremely slippery, and the mud is red and will stain your shoes. Bring something easy to walk in and that you don't mind getting dirty. I would not recommend wearing flip flops.

Bruce MacKinnon

Nice little spot never been here before #NovaScotia

Damian B

Love this place, made so many good memories here

Beth P

What an experience, to be able to walk on the ocean floor. Gorgeous place.

Douglas Martin

Amazing place with beautiful views and nice trails. Stopped by at high tide and then stopped by later at sunset which was awesome. At that time, it was approaching low tide so we were able to walk on ocean floor and watch the tide recede. Amazing display of God's handiwork in nature!!

Praveen John

Times when high tide. Worth checking out.

Andreas Gorbach

Really one of the most amazing places I’ve ever seen. We spend 3 hours walking around and seeing the place changing dramatically with the tide. From no chance to walk to the island to a very Long Beach. With sun and almost no people (still) this becomes a unique place. Certainly also the peace of this place will eventually be killed by humans but as for now it is not overcrowded.

Rajesh Barua (Emon)

Wonderful place to go

okjo kim

if you want to see tide that search the time zone before to move to there. every 6 hour tide time moving. catch the timing

rudel stricker

Direct access to the Fundy Bay with interesting info about it's history and today's findings. An old lighthouse is reconstructed and accessable.

Loved stopping by Burntcoat head park at low tide to walk around. It was stunning and we had a lot of fun. We walked around for a good hour as the tide came back in. I recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

Mo'min Alzyoud

It is a magical place and moment to vist and experience

Serenity Robertson

No access to beach

wayne parker

Love it

Richard Glanz

World record holder for highest tides, what more do you need? The addition this year of staff on the site and the new stairs cut into the rock to get down is great. Washrooms on site and little store an added bonus. Worth the trip! Must plan and check tide tables to ensure you see high and low tide. Because of the six hours between tides, suggest a picnic!

Bobbi Zahra

One of the most amazing experiences in all of NS. You will really walk on the ocean floor and can explore sea caves. If you time it well, you'll be able to experience both low and high tides.

Nicole L

This is a great place to visit. They have free parking and it is free to walk on the ocean floor, which is amazing! It is just a short walk to the park from the parking lot. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Merebeth Switzer

Off the beaten track but lovely little Nova Scotia gem.

Rodney Wiebe

Nice spot by the water! You can walk way out at low tide!

Margaret Canella

Awesome!

Sascha Bähler

Nice place☺️ get ready to take your shoes off

Stuart Agtsteribbe

Way off of the beaten path. We took a short highway break to check out the reversing tide and the Information center convinced us that an additional 25 minute ride would we worth it...they were right! Make sure you time your visit during low tide so you can walk far out into the bay.

Mindy Swinemar

Always a great experience. A beautiful well kept park with plenty of parking, extremely clean and functional washrooms, lots of seating, and outstanding views!

Donna's

Beautiful park. Walk on the ocean floor, the beach, watch the tide change, visit the lighthouse. Picnic tables & walking paths.

Serge Cote

(Translated) What a wonder of nature well presented. Check the tide times to arrive at the start of low tide. Essential rubber boots. (Original) Quelle merveille de la nature bien présentée. Vérifiez l'heure des marées pour arriver au début de de la marée basse. Bottes de caoutchouc essentielles.

Buick Belliveau

Beautiful sunsets. Views are amazing! Walk along the ocean floor and discover Nature's wonder... Great place for a picnic. Keep coming back... always something new to see.... ????

Pat Ling

Interesting stop. You can take a tour or explore the bed of the bay by yourself.

Brody Murphy

This place was amazing, we will deffinently be back. My wife and I had fun and so did our 1 year old. We went during low tide and found hermit crabs, big crabs, lots of cool shells and rocks and even a turtle egg shell. We wish we couldve stayed longer! Tip: dont wear long pants and wear sneakers that can get ruined. Theres lots of slippy mud that makes you need sneakers but the red will ruin them.

Brian Cody

Awesome views. Bring boots for walking around at low tide.

Ross Gillis

Awesome scenery

C M

This was an absolutely beautiful park! The landscaping was nice, parking and admission was free. The staff were very informative and friendly. This is a must see place if you are in NovaScotia! The view of the By of Fundy was fantastic!

Sharon Hoyt

Love this park, watch the tide rise here

scott dunn

Beautiful place to watch the tide come in

Greg Blazina

Great experience, walked for 3km’s before turning back.

May Yee

A great place for tourist attraction. One of the 7 natural wonders in North America, such a beautiful nature wonder set in the bay of fundy. I took tons of beautiful pictures and really enjoyed walking on the ocean floor. Many interesting and beautiful rock formation sites seeing. Also we had a simple picnic, then we stayed a bit to catch the tide coming back, that was awesome!!!????????????????????????‍♀️????????‍♂️????????????????

Rodrigo Machado

Most amazing sight to see. It is astonishing how drastic the tide is and its affect in the land. The park is well maintained with plenty of instructions and signs about the safe areas to be. Also they have a great lawn for picnic with benches and tables.

ivbeenshot

Great area to spend a few hours at low tide walking along the ocean floor.

Jolly Roger

The highest tides you can possibly find in North America. Small park with compressive guided trail all the way to the spectacular sea floor when tides are withdrawing. Note that do not try approaching the left area where the endangered species, Atlantic Mid-Piddocks are dwelled in the red mudstone.

paul stout

beautiful !!!

Chris R.

A natural wonder!!

Tammy F

Loved this place! I've been there 3 times and I plan on going again this summer

Ashley

Highlight of our trip to Nova Scotia

Maurice Johnson

Nice park with lots of parking. Tide times are posted as you can get in a pickle if you don't leave yourself enough time to get back.

Walter Rudderham

So cool. You can actually watch the tide come in

Phyllis Currie

Beautiful scenic and a huge area. Friendly staff.

Bob Richards

If you time your arrival for low tide, you will have a couple of hours to explore the spectacular ocean floor scenery. The sandstone cliffs of the shoreline and nearby island and the eroded caves are certainly a highlight of any Nova Scotian tour. We were there in late October and the park had no facilities open, but as a bonus there were few other people there. Judging from the size of the parking lot, I'm guessing it gets pretty busy there in the summer. This place shouldn't be missed.

CartoonCritter1985

A stunning place to explore!

Ila Worth

Amazing, but be careful with your stepping. Can be very slippery.

Matthew Hurst

Love this place! Great place for a sea floor walk at low tide! The colours and islands exposed at low tide are amazing and great for photos.

Adam Byrne

This park offers a great adventure for you and the family as well as many photo opportunities. Look ahead at the tides to ensure that you can experience walking on the bay floor otherwise you’ll be stuck looking at a bunch of water.

Veronica Nagle

This was an amazing experience that we will never forget. To be able to walk way out on the ocean floor when the tides were down and then go back to see everything you walked on covered in water. It was amazing and highly recommended

suzanne caron

Jacqueline Jamieson

Great and worthwhile attraction

John Fisher

Must visit at low tide.

Debbie Quibell

Awesome scenery

Christina Vandervlist

What an interesting place! At the top the grounds are lush with luxuriant lawns, many different trees, picnic tables, public washrooms and a gift and information centre inside the old Lighthouse. Down a beautifully kept, slightly wild-edged property, a number of stairs and wow! A low-tide nearly lunar landscape! The red silts and green sea growths are a high contrast shock to the sight. Scanning to the distant sea edge, it's as if you're on another world entirely. I love that it is clearly signed to avoid the tidal pools as they harbour sealife awaiting the return of the tide. The short expanse of steps at the bottom is slightly tricky to navigate as it is both worn by many tides and slick with silt from the most recent high tide. PLEASE explore only to the right once down the steps. A protected species lives to the left and there is expansive acreage to explore to the right; no need to selfishly harm living creatures. When the tide comes back it moves quickly. I stood just clear of the surf reach and it was up and over my feet in under one minute, so pay attention to the posted times to return safely to the stairs. Not suitable for those with more extreme mobility issues, it's well worth the effort for those inconvenienced but not disabled, such as my aching knees and arthritic feet. The ocean floor here is very different from both Joggins Fossil Cliffs and Hopewell Rocks. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Chris Cole

There at low water - unique experience.

Darlene Nichol

A must to see! Go in low tide to walk the floor. Come back when high tide is coming in. Closed for season

Barry Striemer

Do the walking on the oceans floor tour, so worth it!

Pearl d'Eon

So beautiful. Perfect walk on the ocean floor with extraordinary views of fundy! Make sure to plan your visit around the tide times to maximize what you can see!

Seeing it first hand.. water level drops 51 ft in depth in less than 8 hours and then returns

Lemuel Smith

Very impressive and well worth the drive.

Lawrence Oakley

Beautiful and unique!!! Totally amazing; a must visit place. Be sure to verify that its low tide when your planning to visit. You can explore approx 2 hrs on either side of low tide.

Samantha Unicorn

Definitely worth a stop if near the area. Easy to get to the ocean floor, a much shorter walk than Hopewell Rocks. Be sure to go up to the top of the lighthouse as well. Clean restrooms on site. Easy parking.

Carolyn Guy

A very special spot. Don't go too close to high tide

David Hanna

Amazing place! Wear proper foot wear!

E.

(Translated) Very nice, you can go for a walk and have a picnic. (Original) Sehr schön, man kann gut spazieren gehen und picknicken.

Scott Hearn

Well worth the trip. Very unique to even Nova Scotias ever changing tidal coastline

Vicki Ayer

An incredible display of the tides. If you time it to coincide with the tide coming in you will experience the force of nature, patience is must. It can beuch colder and windier there as well dress appropriately.

Chris Hibbard

Nice stop of you need a break from driving. The lighthouse is a replica after the Canadian federal government violently burned down the original. The locals seem to still resent this federally-induced arson. You can climb to the very top of the lighthouse if you like. The grounds are pretty, nice for a walk. "Flower pot" island and red sandstone beaches were interesting and unique views. If you stay long, you will see the amazing Fundy tide: 50ft vertical tidal action. The visitor center has a video and info on the total action. Public restroom and gift shop with snacks in the visitor center.

Jack Thompson

Awesome. Nature at it's best.

Brian Hickey

Awesome time and views go here

Samit D

Insanely cool!

Harry Lamba

Great place. A not to be missed place!

D Renaud

Amazing views.

Elvis Robar

This place is great if you like walking the ocean floor .Make sure tide is going out or low to give time to explore . Read the tide time and warnings. I suggest wear and old pair of sneakers that you can get muddy or wet.

Geoffrey Austin

Unique experience to walk on oncean floor.

Chyloe Gallant

Nice day trip from Halifax. Nice informational look offs. Walk on the bay floor at low tide. Low tide is the best time to be there. Your footwear will have brown mud on them, no matter what. There's spots to clean them off though.

David Illiatovitch-Owen

A unique and amazing place where you can see nature as nowhere else. Just wear shoes and clothes that you are not that in love with!

James Brown

Great place to visit and explore with the kids.

The most informative tour. Our 1 1/2 hr tour was 2 1/2 hours. Our tour guide, Morgan, was great. She taught us all quite a lot. Thanks Morgan!! Highly highly recommend!

Milia K

This is something, I totally had a feeling I was walking on Mars. Hard to imagine that all this space is covered by water in a few hours.

don ambler

Very well maintained

Jefferey Bryan

Amazing. Come see high or low tide then come back in a few hours. Not much to do in the area but it's worth coming back. Being a picnic lunch and walk on the ocean floor. At high tide there will be about 50 feet of ocean in the same spot.

Jade Rudic

Most breathtaking, jaw dropping experience you will have on the East Coast. Must see high tide AND low tide same day(6 hours apart). Walk on the ocean floor!

Karen M

Don't miss this! The site of the highest tides in the world.

Ian MacInnis

It's really spectacular. When you arrive at low tide it's hard to believe that in a few hours, everything you see will be underwater. You really have to go there during low and high tides just to appreciate the contrast. There are also several picnic tables, bathrooms, a visitor centre that's inside of a light house. It's the perfect place for a family outing!

Dave Raine

Walk on the ocean floor at low tide.

John

Very cool to visit and don't bring fancy shoes.

Chris Patterson

We got there right after they closed for the season. It is an amazing place! We were there at low tide and walked around. We were not able come back to see what high tide looked like. I would suggest to see both if you can. When your walking on the sea floor it is hard to imagine that there is 53' of water that would be there at high tide. This is a place I would go out of my way to go back too!

Amanda Lanctot

What a great beach to explore and take in the natural beauty

Kyo Gaudet

One of the highlights of our trip. But have to go at mid to low tide

Aidan Pittman

Awesome place, go with my family a couple times a year each summer. Absolutely great place for memories

Shelley Raniowski

Great location to experience the Fundy Tides. Take a picnic lunch & make a day of it, lots to explore!

keri mattaliano

The coolest place I’ve seen in a long time. We went at low tide and walked along the ocean floor, looking at hermit crabs and masses of snails. There is a cool cave that would be fully submerged at high tide. I loved exploring the extreme tides here.

Tia Bataille

This was our accidental lighthouse expierence. Saw the signs followed the road. Glad we found it and made the stop! Staff there were friendly and very informative! It was an amazing chance to wander the ocean floor while the tide was out. Recommend wearing sandles or flip flops as it is still wet and some spots are muddy. Absolutely beautiful place to visit.

Daryl Goodman

Amazing!! Everyone needs to go at high tide to appreciate low tide.

Domi Nic

Really impressive. Bring shoes that can get wet & dirty.

Doug

We walked the ocean floor at low tide and it was amazing. Great views, beautiful scenery and lots of crabs. We wore water shoes which was the best option. The tides are incredible. The best part is it's free. Just watch where you walk and be careful.

Sarah B

Stunning! One of the highlights of our trip. It was so amazing to be able to walk down on the ocean floor and the formations and cliffs are spectacular!! We were lucky to arrive at low tide but be sure to check the times of the tides prior to visiting

Alexandra Lachance

(Translated) Very well laid out site. Staff on site answer questions. The speed at which the tide is rising is impressive and easily accessible (stairs leading to the water's edge). Meal area, trails, toilet and non-potable water on the site. (Original) Site très bien aménagé. Personnel sur place répondre aux questions. La vitesse à laquelle la marée remonte est impressionnante et facilement accessible (escalier menant au bord de l'eau). Aire de repas, sentiers, toilette et eau non potable sur le site.

Mike Croitor

Cool place to visit ????

Rick Harrison

Angela Deknibber

Walking the ocean floor was a truly amazing experience! My kids and I enjoyed searching the tidal pools for creatures and things. The time the tide is down is short, but wonderful! The workers were great and friendly.

Omar

What a gorgeous place on earth. The whole family had a blast walking down at the shore while the tides were low. What an experience for all ages. Would have loved to stay till the high tides but it was a long wait with the kids. A definite must see. Would love to go back to see the high tides. The lighthouse was pleasant so was the staff in the park.

wendy pearce

It was wonderful. The yard is well looked after. The light house is very clean and has many facts on display. You can walk up to the cap of the light house and look around. It has souvenirs for sale. All around a nice place to visit all for free. Aswell it has access to the fundy to walk at low tide.

Elaine Gordon

a beautiful place.

James Pang

Considering the remoteness of this nature attraction, I rate it 5 stars. The staff were provided accurate information, welcoming and helpful. One of them even volunteered to help my family with a group photo. Most important of all, there was a very well maintained washroom, complete with plumbing, and paper towels. The attractions were worth the trouble to drive the long distance from Halifax; we witnessed the highest tide and 2.5 hours shy of the lowest tide at Burntcoat. The original lighthouse at Walton was also worth the trouble.

Erica Vanlandingham

Beautiful..nice place

Sergiy Khan

Much better that in NB.

Pierre Timotheatos

A bit out o the way park but with great access to the ocean floor. Somewhat like The Hopewell rocks in NB but no cool rocks and definitely less crowds and its free. Great place to let the kids (big and small get muddy) Great hiking trails in the area as well.

Al Upshall

Really nice walking down on the rocks/beach

Melissa Nicholson

Love this park! I wish the "park" area up top was bigger and had more trails as it is a great place to walk to avoid summer heat. But the ocean floor is really cool and the whole place is beautiful.

Evandro Souza

love burntcoat head park. watching the tide come in here is incredible but also dangerous, don't venture far from the stairs when the tide is on its way in.

Anthony Dopp

Great experience to walk on the ocean bed at low tide!

It's a great place to see the effects of the tide in the Bay of Fundy. The price is right: free. It's a short drive from Halifax. Well worth the drive.

Beautiful park! Pleasant picnic area and walking trails. Huge staircase to take you down to the ocean floor safely at low tide. They've even carved steps into the rock for added accessibility. There is a foot/dog washing station beside the lighthouse to clean up after exploring the mud flats.

Carolyn Ruggles

Beautiful place to see, there's a little gift shop within the lighthouse, one gets to go to the top to see the view.

This is a magical place to witness mother nature's tides. I suggest you go at high tide and explore the ocean floor as the tide recedes. Its truly amazing. The lighthouse there is open to the public. Climb to the top (inside) and see the fabulous views.

Would definitely recommend a visit here. In season, there's plenty of staff members, ample parking, washroom facilities, and shoe/feet washing stations. Staff are all very friendly, informative, and helpful throughout. Trails and stairs are clearly marked and relatively easy to follow and such. Definitely take a look at the tide schedule for the day before you come, so you can plan your trip!

Becky Casey

Such a beautiful location. It can be a bit slippery.

Completely amazed by the height of the tides! Beautiful landscape to experience. There is so much to see at low tide. Kids were having a blast finding hermit crabs! Definitely wear water shoes to be most comfortable and safe and be sure to …

Kris Boehner

Beautiful scenery. Well kept park. Awesome watching the tides. Wish we came early enough to explore durring low tide. Will be back again.

I was appalled as to the lack of social distancing no masks people packed tight waiting to get down to the mud flaps. There were workers there saying nothing with no safety protocol being followed. I left

Amazing! Such a unique experience. The visitor center is very informative and welcoming. The park area is very well taken care of. The "ocean floor" is so interesting and watching the tide come in was a lot of fun.

Maria Koulouris

The addition of the stairs to get onto the ocean floor is fantastic. A great place to experience the tides! My only issue is the bathrooms close at 5pm so if you are coming back the same day to see low and high tides sometimes you fall outside the regular hours that the facility is open including the little store.

Andrea

Very cool experience. Went during high tide, totally would recommend going for low tide. A must see in Nova Scotia.

P Schmitt

Beautiful place to view the highest tides in the world. You are able to walk right down onto the ocean floor, which is a messy mix of sand and mud. There are some small caves to climb into and plenty of hermit crabs to be discovered for children in the later summer months. They've recently added a foot wash station and additional restrooms.

Michael Williamson

Really cool place to visit. So interesting to walk on the ocean floor and see the amazing colours of seaweed and clay. Some tips: Best time to arrive is about an hour before low tide. Just search Google for 'Burntcoat Head Tides'. You don't need to do a tour, and from what I over heard it's probably not worth it. Make sure to bring good water shoes and know they will get muddy and possibly permanently stained.

Cheryl Cyr

Such a cool place to visit! Make sure you check tide times so you can walk on the ocean floor. Its slippery and can be muddy so be careful. We took our visiting family and everyone enjoyed it from ages 2 to 65.

Rene Cormier

Great place. The staff was very friendly. But they should really consider turning this place into a real park. Maybe charge people to go there. Very impressive highest tides in the world!
